  • Good morning all.

RT!! Wow, 96 hours, well done!! Inspiring! I can’t even manage 48 hrs properly, maybe I need to try without 500 cals. From memory I did 24hrs easily once without any food, my problem is I just enjoy food too much…. But you have inspired me to try again next week.

Well done on resisting the fish and chips Amazon. Resorting to PJ’s was a great idea! They NEVER taste as good as you imagine them, its all mind games. The healthy Coq au Vin will taste divine, even if you dilute it with extra vin!

Good luck with the bowling Jojo. It sounds like the challenge to stay on the straight and narrow food wise will be more than the bowling! Just remember your long fast leading up to this, remember how strong you have been if you are tempted. Sounds like you are well prepared though!

My house smells lovely at present as I have a huge batch of tomato chutney boiling on the stove. 8 kgs tomatoes and 3 kg onions, took forever to cut up last night but it will be worth it. Love home made chutney and its been too long since I made it. Big walk coming up this afternoon with husband and fasting today….

RT that is a wonderful story re the doctor curing his own ulcerative colitis. It is a dreadful disease. I nursed lots of teenagers with it and its cruel to see the powerful drugs they are put on. There is a new book out written by a Melbourne orthopaedic surgeon commenting on the fact that so much surgery is done uneccessarily – and the guy is a surgeon himself! The medical profession wont be too happy with him. He talks about very early interventions that were done in the name of medicine (such as blood-letting), pointing out that his profession has always preferred to do SOMETHING, even if ineffective, usually as a placebo. Quite a controversial book.

Have a great weekend all x

    Good evening all,
Dinner was not a temptation at all. Overlooked veg with no gravy followed by cheese and biscuits, 2 crackers and cheese you needed a magnifying glass to find. Lucky I brought some olives and feta. There was a very good singer and we played cards all evening. i danced with one of the old guys, a sweetie, but I was a bit concerned about his breathing so I left it at one dance. Don’t want to kill him off, we need him, great bowler. It was fun but I did have 3 G & T’s because I was fed up about the food. Big mistake but it’s done. Try harder tomorrow.
RT – well done on your fast but I have very real reservations about fasting exceeding three days for weightloss. Please do more research, there are some very real dangers for your fall bladder, kidneys and liver. Please be careful.
Amazon- I honestly think it is better to fast water/ tea only, have the milk, it isn’t a big issue. Try other green teas some are better than others. Honey and camomile is delicious .
Ply- how are you doing? thinking of you.

    Morning/evening all,

Jo, I have tried several green teas and I don’t like any of them and I hate the taste of camomile too. If I do liquid only it’ll be tea in the morning with milk, a couple of coffees with milk and lots of water. I also drink peppermint and fruit teas occasionally so can live happily without the green stuff.

I got through yesterday without fish, chips or beer and am very pleased this morning as Thursday’s FD turned into 900-1000 calories due to cheesecake. Not a bad week, three FDs and one low calorie day is good.

I’m taking lots of boxes and a couple of dining chairs to my friend across the road today to be stored until the work is over. Not much more to do now and I’m glad I’ve spread it out over the week and not sprained or tweaked anything although I have a couple of lovely grazes on my hands 😦

I think it is safe to say that my back is almost better but still in need of lots of stretching 😃

Time to get moving, have a good one everybody 😜

    Good morning all,
I’m reading and following all your interesting food management programs with interest.

For me I’m just reducing my calories to 1,250 cal on me food days and 500 cal on FD days and still walking a wee bit more each day and dancing alone in the kitchen for 30-45 minutes listening to Motown just a bit of exercise and I feel happy moving to my old favorites AND I get good’n sweaty doing it!
So Saturday is here and the scale results: HAPPY ME! another FULL kilo weight loss this week; that 4-kg in four consecutive weeks. Steady and sure so far.

Good luck everyone, stay strong and if you fail just start again!

Mmmmm, tomato chutney sounds delicious, Nama!

    Pentimento, you are a star!

I am not a tea drinker either, Amazon, and mint is the only kind I really enjoy. I can distract myself from hunger with a cup during the day, and I have replaced my wine at night with tea for the time being. Tonight we are getting together with family, and the fermented grape juice will be flowing. I am looking forward to my first glass in weeks! I am bringing veggies with an avocado ranch dip, so I will stay on the straight and narrow food wise.

Yesterday turned into a regular fast day, as I came home exhausted and fell asleep early. Only consumption was a handful of sunflower seeds and a couple of hard-boiled eggs. The microwave at work is broken, and I didn’t feel like making salad to bring in the morning, so no lunch for me! I will be doing lots of veg prep today for the coming week, since there are still lots in the fridge from BSD shopping trip.

Six new students from Haiti arrived at our school this week, and none speaks any English. I was being introduced to two adorable first graders, who politely shook hands and told me their names. I didn’t quite hear the second name, so I leaned down and asked him to repeat it. Instead of repeating his name, he gave me the sweetest little kiss on the cheek! Completely made my day. 💗

    Happy weekend, everyone!

P.s. If anyone is interested in trying a guided meditation experience, here is a link to one entitled, “Shedding the Weight, Body, Mind, and Spirit” that begins in a couple of weeks. I have done others in this series, and I enjoyed them. Still have the goal of making meditation a regular part of my life, but not quite there yet. These short guided series help.

Hi Ply, yes the chutney turned out well – all 14 jars!! 11pm here and the kitchen finally cleaned up! Its the end of our Summer in 2 days, so the tomatoes are lovely (and cheap), I got a 10kg box at the market for a song.
Those little ones from Haiti must be edible! Sounds like you have won a heart already! Wise boy….

Pentimento, whatever you are doing, keep doing it .. well done on your great progress. Before you know it you will be needing smaller clothes, then the fun begins!

Off to bed now, knackered after cooking and walking and gardening today…. Managed a semi fast (chutney tasting did interfere somewhat!) in preparation for a roast leg of lamb tomorrow with old friends. Despite it still (just) being summer, we are having magical autumnal weather so I thought a roast would be a nice change!

Hi Nama, just reread you story (clicking on your name). I’m looking forward to achieve a similar weight loss as your have for my end-goal of 19-kg of fat thrown away in the FAT-BIN. ( not to be confused with sin-bin where it comes back in 10-minutes).
For me the motivation is both vanity and health. I have a new knee-buckling handsome husband I want him to be proud of his choice in taking me as his wife AND I have a sore body; carrying around a totally useless 19-20 kilos of fat on my joints must be a direct contribution to pain. So I just woke up one morning and decided to take control and change my body. 5:2 is a WOL vs a diet. I can easily eat and exercise like this forever and ever. I’m not doing any of the extreme things some of you all are doing. Again just-for-me, it’s a commitment to mindful eating, counting calories and watching what KIND of calories I’m consuming and of course my personal challenge daily cardio exercise and 20 minutes of stretching AGGGGGHHHHH! And when I indulge like yesterday when we went out to eat and we all ate fresh-caught grilled tuna belly with green beans in garlic ‘n olive oil AND YES a platter of yummy chips… well then I have to make up for eating the extra calories by either eating fewer calories this week and/or increasing my cardio work-out… just a matter of physics and math,
    action/reaction, yes?
My desire to do whatever it takes to become fit & healthy again is MUCH stronger then my desire to continue indulging in my comfy old bad-habits. It’s simple just not not easy.

Last night watching the France vs Wales match I craved a glass of wine like taking a breath of air while drowning. No sh-t! A damn serious craving for a drink ‘n some popcorn…got up and walked past the wine cabinet 9xs during the game AND even set out everything to pop the corn…shameful stuff, really! Instead I made two cups of herbal tea and ate 2 corn ‘rice crackers’ with a thick slice of salted tomato on top. No sometimes it’s not easy at all………sigh…….. I am SO VERY INSPIRED by those of you who have succeeded before me and are now are maintaining your happy healthy bodies and minds. Good on you! I’m right behind you.

Well done Penti! (resisting the grape!) – too many empty calories. Evenings are my hardest times!
The happy band on Jojo’s thread and all over the forum have certainly inspired me too, so many great stories and hints to read, they kept me going until this WOL became more natural. I am sure your hunk of a man chose you for you, but I know what you mean! Self respect I think its called…

Our wedding anniversary this week (43 yrs, thats getting serious!) so we have booked a night at Lorne on the Great Ocean Road, one of my favourite places. Will need to start ‘budgeting’ calories for that!!

I need to start kitchen stuff if friends coming for lunch, have a lovely Sunday all x

Enjoy the roast lamb today Nama always a big hit in this house I do ours in the webber out the back Y-fee is a mad face booker seen a post and thought it might be good for me/us to join in the Meatless March program hmmm 31 days doesn’t seem long but as I know you are a happy and keen carnivore I am wondering whether or not your on-board this also 😉
    Happy Sunday Fast Trackers
    Go Crows
    RT

Thanks RT. I can easily resist alcohol, usually resist chocolate, sometimes resist cake, definitely resist hot spices, but sometimes I just HAVE to have a piece of meat! We don’t have a Webber, husband cant cook! Anything barbequed ends up as charcoal, so I have given up and use the oven! I don’t have meat every day, but could not give it up for a whole month. Good luck to you with that challenge!

    Good evening All,
Well things are not going as planned, firstly I had breakfast because ?I woke up starving today after dissapointing dinner last night. Had scrambled egg on toast and porrige with fruit. Lunch was a small Greggs spicy balti veg pasty(save me from myself), it was fabulous of course then dinner was grilled salmon and steamed veg with boiled potato. The servings here are all small thank goodness. I had a disasterous bowls game, losing 33/4 , outclassed. I had three gin and tonics tonight but am resolved to have no more, finito. Thank goodness I did that fast before I came here. We are on a rest in the morning but I am determined to walk for two hours. I did walk for two hour today, but it was shopping, bought a great dress and cardigan, really looked good.
Having a great time here as the hotel have arranged singers each night, Susie last night sang pop tunes and chap tonight did country and some rock. We also played crib and danced, it’s been good, we have laughed a lot.
Ply- hope you enjoyed you vino.
RT- you are mad but heroic
    Penti- Well done, keep dancing!
Amazon- glad you are in control, more than I am

Penti a kilo a week for 4 weeks is outstanding a massive congratulation’s are in order you are going beautifully I also like your method here of full accountability on both fast and feed day some newbies tend to overestimate their exercise and calories burned and over eat then under estimate the calories consumed on feed day not ideal and as a rule of thumb the focus is always getting the fast day correct of 500 or under calories and you have shown due diligence and capped your feed day to 1250 calories and have been well rewarded on the scales. A hint I stole from Purple is start eating as if you are at your goal weight now so on feed days TDEE and 25% of that on a fast day For example men have 600 calories on a fast day from average intake of 2400 calories, however my numbers are TDEE 1839cal and so therefore 25% would be 459cal on a fast day. These days I tend to have a zero calorie fast day or as close to as possible generally but not always and under the 19/5 eating window the evening meal now to be fair I find it very doable as I still work 5 days a week so with sleeping and working taking 15 hours out of the 19 Mon-Fri so I find it a good fit for me on my study of one take off some time for the steps and walking and tea time rolls round in no time weekends are flexible within this WOL. Which is why our compliance and successful transition rate to this a lifelong commitment to the WOL that never ends is so high.
    RT

Dear RT, Thank you for the comments.
You motivated me to do my TDEE calculations again. The good news is that on Food Days I’m consuming fewer calories (1,250 cal) then my TDEE recommended (1,896 cal) but on the other hand I’m consuming more then 25% of the TDEE calories on my FD; 25% of TDEE equals 413 cal vs my own 500-550 FD caloric consumption. Just dunno, if I can drop down to 413 calories on FD…. not sure and more so probably not too willing. On my own system I don’t ‘feel’ deprived or particularly hungry on FD. If I DO feel strong hunger I just eat something (that’s STILL eating mindful ‘correct’ food) such as my always on hand for Fast Day, green veggie blended soup or I have a large cuppa tasty hot broth, something yummy and satisfying passing me lips so I’m still within my FD caloric count but I’m not hungry-hungry or irritable OR obsessing over FOOD. 5:2/4:3 is a WOL about health and only part of my daily thoughts.

As long as I’m consistently losing around/close to/and over 1 kilo per week I will stay on my currant bespoke program. The suggestions from the 5:2 program are excellent guides and have put me on a successful path of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) + Mindful Eating and Exercise. I love it!

But as far as skipping me brekkie? It’ll never happen. This is my total favorite meal of the day, on the other hand supper is not so compelling. I can miss that meal easily but why would I skip any meal? I’m delighted with eating my 5-6 wee mini-meals throughout the day. Me LOVES, LOVES, LOVES, eating, yes I do, very much! Just don’t want to be fat or sore any more. So I’m still ‘eating’ albeit MUCH differently then I the way I did in the past that allowed me to acquire this extra fat.
    Smart changes vs deprivation.
Well folks, just stay strong and if you fail just try again…sigh…and again..

    Morning/evening all,

The no added sugar for Lent isn’t doable for me at the same time as no bread so I’m going to have the occasional slice of cake on a non FD and stick with the no bread.

I spent yesterday which was a non FD nibbling at everything I could lay my hands on because I wanted something sweet and then succumbed to mince pies after dinner. If I had eaten something sweet in the first place I would have consumed far less calories.
Lesson learned, don’t try to do too many things at once.

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Hi Penti,
Breakfast used to be my favourite meal of the day andI have decided to join my crowd at the hotel for meals so my 19/5 window which included no breakfast is out of the window. But I am not having a full English just two boiled eggs and no bread, it’s a compromise. But I warn you that your eating habits and routines will change as time goes on and the weight gets harder to shift hence my Three day fast.
I have just done a two hour walk, it was murder walking into the wind but sensibly dressed. Bowls this afternoon then more card playing and dancing tonight.
Keep up the good work and dial it up when you need to.
RT- you can do the no meat challenge, stick to spicy vegetarian food, you won’t miss it at all. Try quorn in Shepherdess pie using cauliflower mash or sweet potato(Kumara) yum yum pigs bum

I lost focus a bit and started messy eating. I think I’m stressed, the problem is it’s hard to fast, exercise and to work and balance all demands on my time and energy.

Hey folks don’t forget to enter your profile information.
Tasa…I’m I newbie here but I blew the entire first month messin’ around, making excuses and such things. There is HUGE power inside you to manage a full load of life’s tugs & pulls; work, children, social, home-life AND your health management program. You just gotta reach deeper, much deeper, make some additional sacrifices and modifications to your day …just a tweak here and there, get up 30 minutes earlier or drink more water or what ever works for you. If you can’t do 10k steps do what you can! If you can’t do 500-cal on FD, do the best you can, if you can’t keep the caloric count low on Food Days to your own personal goal, well just do the best you can….but keep trying the only failure is to stop….just adjust where you need to and get back on the wagon. GOOD LUCK!

    Tasa,
Yes it is hard to juggle work, family and dieting but trust me when I say if you are a busy person now you will still be a busy person when you retire. I actually started fasting when I was working, running a business, caring for two disabled relatives and family. I am now retired and just as busy as ever averaging three activities per day. But if you want to be healthy and happy as well as slim you will do it. Good Luck!

Bowls went badly again today 31/8 again we were outclassed. But we had fun and it was a good atmosphere. I skipped lunch in favour of a piece of fruit. I will have dinner tonight, they have oromised me meditteranean pie, whatever that might be. Pity she couldn’t do me a a Thai dish without meat, the others are having beef thai or chicken.

I don’t know what the entertainment is tonight, so long as it isn’t old time musical? I think most people will want an early night as we are leaving tomorrow and stopping in Essex to play bowls in the afternoon. Hope it goes better?

I ended up walking over three hours today in the end and that’s apart from bowling so I am feeling happy with that.

Amazon- I too am not finding it easy to not have bread, can easily live without sugar. We are all so different with weaknesses. That toast rack on my shared table is torture to me but I am trying to be strong. Also we are having rolls put on the table ready for soup, it’s hell to give it away to my neighbour who eats it with relish. He a nice old chap that eats non stop and doesn’t have an ounce of fat on him. Sportsman an all his life, just tones down the sport when he has to. I said what comes next if he can’t play bowls, he said snooker or darts. Good attitude! He is mid 80’s. All his team were over 80 today, they had a draw, skilled players.

Ply- how are things, I am still dreading all that shopping and cooking. May do some planning on the return journey see if I can tone it down where I have to replace meat dishes.
Smithy and Bay- are you ready to go?

Not eating bread isn’t a problem. I miss it but it does mean I’m making better choices. The problem lies in trying to give up bread and added sugar at the same time. The idea was to help me stick to the plan but it hasn’t worked out that way at all. I want to lose weight and keep it off but I’m not prepared to be miserable in the process and failing so added sugar in moderation is back on the menu.
I intend to continue with 3:4 and limit anything that contains sugar without eliminating it completely and see if that is doable.

I have a busy week ahead and am looking forward to having a brand new bedroom. My living room is an obstacle course as it is so full of stuff and the bed frame is yet to be dismantled and added to the mess 😆
At least I’m not climbing over things as was the case when I had my kitchen installed!

Yes Jojo I am confident I can get through the 31 Days without meat which is quite a different culinary experience for me so I will not try and get all fancy smancy with it and keep it to a one pan or one pot wonder and let the sweet sweet smell of the kitchen adventure start.
“Success is a journey not the destination the doing is often more important than the outcome”
So yes I am reminded of the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding [2002] and this bloody gem when Toula tells Aunt Voula Ian is a vegetarian

    Aunt Voula:
What do you mean he don’t eat no meat?
    Aunt Voula:
Oh, that’s okay. I make lamb.

Lets get our fast on People
    Peace

    Jo,

It sounds as if starting the blood sugar diet can’t come soon enough for you! You might not have a sweet tooth, but simple carbs certainly seem to be your weakness (and they metabolize the same as sugar). You’ve obviously got fasting sorted (you’re one of the few who’ve done more than a day!) but you undo it on non-fast days?! Scrambled eggs AND porridge and fruit sounds like two breakfasts, not one. Pasty for lunch. Spuds for tea. Simple carbs at every meal to keep your blood sugar elevated all day… I hope today’s eating has been more successful?

And I have to say your mind set seems wrong…’dreading all that shopping and cooking’. You’re the woman who apparently loves new challenges and learning new skill/hobbies! You want to be slim and reduce your risk of obesity-related illnesses? So why not view this as an opportunity? Think of the BSD as a new hobby/ a short course, and actively look forward to it. You know, you’re the only thing standing between you and a slim healthy future.

Happy- True but we can’t always choose what we like doing? I don’t enjoy cooking that much. I will try to view it as a challenge rather than a hurdle. It’s just planning that will see me through. It will be a busy week.

Yes food was bad yesterday, but good today, no carbs at all, no lunch either. The pie I was expecting was not pie at all but some weird mixture of peppers, onions and chilli- not great tasting but healthy. No pudding and no alcohol so back on track.

I have prebook boiled eggs again tomorrow for breakfast, no lunch, mystery vegetarian dinner yet to be discovered as laid on at the bowls club.

Back home in the evening and in control of food on Tuesday. BSD begins then. I am comitted to it March and April and have planned my life around it. No trips, no meals out unless I can have something that will fit with the plan.

    Good morning all.

Sorry for long silence – been very busy at work and home but have had time now to catch up on posts.

Wow Jojo, well done on the 3-day fast. You have inspired me to have a go. As I’ve said before, and like Penti, mealtimes at home are for socializing so it’s very hard for both of us for me to either sit and not eat anything, or not be present. However, OH has another week’s consulting just before Easter so will definitely do it then. So much time and money saved by not cooking and eating.

My 40 days of no added sugar have been going well except for a small blip last week when an opened packet of Maltesers at eye level leapt out of the fridge and demanded to be sampled 🙁 The grandchildren had had them in the car and they had gone soft in the hot weather; limited myself to 4 but very cross. Apart from that smallish sin, it has gone well and have lost a little under 3kg (6lb 8oz) in the three weeks since starting.

Amazon, I knew that cutting out all carbs wouldn’t have worked for me so still having 2 slices of mixed grain bread on my 4 days at home/week.

Interesting to hear of the BDS adventures Ply, some of the recipes sound delicious so might have to get the book for that reason.

Take care all and keep up the good work. n xxx

    Nicky,

That’s a great result in 3 weeks! At this rate it won’t be long til you join the growing number of maintainers!

    Amazon,

Great to hear your back is better and coping with furniture moving. Mine has been bad since New Year. Sadly I couldn’t fix it myself but physiotherapy seems to be helping.

Interesting reading about your experiment with sugar and carbs. I’ve found that I can limit added sugar and simple carbs to weekends with no feeling of deprivation. I know I can’t eat bread every day and, while pre-5:2 I would have been horrified at the thought of not having daily bread, over time I’ve realised it isn’t a hardship at all! There’s far tastier and nutritious foods and I get to enjoy more of them if I cut out the bread 🙂 And actually recently when the weekend has arrived I haven’t automatically reached for the bread (previously a ‘treat’) as I know I’ll be limiting my other eating options. Unexpected!

Who was it said if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change?

    Morning All,
Thanks Nicky, yes I would definitely be happy to do a three days fast monthly during maintenance, possibly before if I need it. As you say it is great for saving time especially as you tend to keep busier and out of the kitchen. Many more trips to the loo though as you tend to have hot drinks hourly. I feared doing it before because I thought I wouldn’t be able to sleep but it wasn’t that bad in the end apart from a few bad dreams.
Calorie counting is such a chore especially when away from home but I like to keep a record. It helps me stay aware of what I am doing and arms me with knowledge to resist temptation( mostly). We all have our (silly days), mine are nearly always linked to anger or frustration. If we can compensate for them at least we are trying to redress the balance. I am looking forward to getting back to my own bed tonight, this one is very firm and uncomfortable on my hip. I have managed to get 6 hours sleep each night though.
It’s been a good weekend, nice change. There has even been romance between a widower and a divorcee. Good for them I say. Brought together over several games of crib. Glad I brought my board if only for that reason. They are both over 50 and lonely so it’s great.
Have a great fast day everyone, keep moving.

    Morning/evening all,

Another Monday another FD. I know where I am today, no food until dinner and no temptation apart from when I cut the builders a slice of cake each 😮

I slept on my sofa bed last night which has a thin mattress and my back was a bit stiff this morning, but moving around and the application of some heat has got it moving. The sofa bed frame moves easily but is quite heavy, so I’ll need to take care when moving it.

I’m enjoying the last minutes of peace before the builders arrive, I’mexcited that the work is finally starting but it is going to be a noisy and dusty couple of days while they are removing the old plaster and preparing the room for new. If all is well I’ll escape to the gym tomorrow morning.

Have a good one everybody 😜

Thanks Jo for the advise, I’m in the process of starting my own business but since Started dieting and exercising i couldn’t focus on the business and that frustrates my a great deal. both business and weight management require immense focus. The problem is I can’t do two things at the same time. It’s not only business and diet. i have to take care of the family and coach boys through exam etc. sometimes when I slip and the eating don’t go well I get hugely disappointed and tempt to leave it completely (the stage i’m in now!)

To plan the meals for the fast (and non-fast) require time and planning too. getting red of long life unhealthy habits can be challenging at times. Am I not going to eat bread for the rest of my life? this comes to mind sometimes!

I’m indeed want and keen to be healthy, slim and happy but I need to put significant effort on the career/ business side and that is where i’m struggling now.
On the positive side the clean feeling inside my body is amazing! The walks everyday are getting easier, the shrinking butts and the drop in the dress size is wonderful. the disappearance of pain and aches in my feet and back is marvellous. Thats what keeps me going. I will try my best to keep it up and hope fully it will get easier and i will develop the skills to get the career part on track by determination, focus and hard work.

I have put on 0.3 kilo. behind my goal but i will try not to be disheartened and keep going. Today is a fast day and i will keep you updated on how I’m progressing.

    Have a great day everybody!

Hi Tasa, it does sound as if your plate is very full at present! We have a great saying around here, inspired by a very successful faster SAMM, just do whats ‘doable’! You have already experienced the great feeling of fasting and losing weight, so don’t give up! Just allow yourself two days a week to focus on your own needs. Keep fast day menus simple and easy to prepare, don’t aim too high just yet. It does get easier. Then on non fast days, try to avoid too many carbs and sugar and use your calories for really tasty and healthy food.. you certainly don’t have to give up bread for life, you just learn to manage it. Funny thing is, all those things you love and dont want to give up, will become less and less attractive to you as your tastes change with fasting. Sugar really is addictive and the less you have, the less you will want. But you need to be patient, thats the hardest bit! It all sounds too good to be true, but I am speaking from experience! After 17 months of fasting, my tastes have really changed and if you persist, yours will too. Just do what you can. Good luck.

Many thanks Nama for your encouragement and kind words. as you said being patient is the key. I’m trying my best to keep on track. coming to this forum is one of my strategies. The next two weeks are going to be critical but I will survive.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Thanks Tasa, I am ‘downunder’ and just off to bed as its midnight here! You are right, you will survive! And do keep reading (at least) the forum, it helps you to be accountable (even if just to yourself) and it really helps to get ideas from fellow fasters on here. It has been an enormous help to me, plus most of the folks on here are a lot of fun! The alternative to keeping up with 5:2 is not worth considering, just keep trying! Cheers.

    Hi all.

I finished the 3rd week of my 4:3 fasting today,(it supposed to be on Saturday, but i went out with my family for coffee and i decided to do Sunday as fast day instead of Saturday.
I weighted myself today morning, and i had gone up 200g 🙁 (i weighted myself after taking thyroxine tablets with a small glas of water,so the weight gain it might have been the water)
Last week by the end of my third day of fasting i weighted 77.2 kg
    And today i was 77.4kg

I don’t know what to do,but when you see that the weight goes up instead of loosing weight,it makes you feel so discouraged
I will continue with this diet, but i am not sure if i am going to lose weight, but all the positive comments that other people leave here, makes me feel better and having the desire to continue, and thinking if i haven’t lost anything this week maybe i will on the other week coming 🙁

    Have a good day everyone.

    Afternoon all,

The day has flown by, the builders arrived at 8am and set to work immediately. My bedroom now has no ceiling and no plaster on the walls and while the work was in progress the dust got everywhere. They cleaned up before they left and I’ve vacuumed everywhere else and washed floors and surfaces and can now relax knowing that the messy bit is over.

I didn’t think about food once apart from a brief moment when slicing cake for the builders, so my FD has been the easiest ever. I’ve just had some tofu and spinach lasagne which if I say so myself, is delicious and I’ll be making it again regardless of whether it is for FDs or not.

I hope everyone else who has been fasting today has had as good a day as I have 🙂

    Good evening All,

Back home and happy to be here. We won our game, the only team in our side to win, so we were chuffed. Actually I didn’t play as well as usual but my teammates picked up and the opposition was not as strong. The caterers employed from Norwich provided a lovely meal of beef caserole or nut roast for me, delicious.

    Blood Sugar Diet starts tomorrow

    Good luck fellow Fasters

Exciting changes Amazon. Like anything worth doing… no gain without pain. ☺

Excellent advice, Nama. The long term effect of fasting regularly and, hence, removing many high calorie foods from the menu, does alter the cravings for them. From this perspective, fasting needs to be short (one day) and regular, in maintenance as well as during the weightloss period, to continue that healthy change in food desires.

Maintenance weight is a great achievement, but requires commitment to a total change of attitude to food frequency, quantity and type to be long term sustainable. I believe regular normal 5:2 / 6:1 fasts are a major part of this. Cheers P 🍎🍇

    Good morning all.

Glad you won your bowls match Jojo. A good feeling when your team was the only winner. The beauty of teamwork of course is that even if one member is a bit off, the others can take up the slack.

Amazon, renovaations are nearly as bad as moving house IMO but, as you say, the messy bit is over and you can look forward to an improved room. Keeping busy is the best way for a FD to fly by.

Tasa, you answered your own question regarding the 200g, a glass of water weighs about that much. There are times when the scales stay stubbornly stationary or, worse, go up for no sensible reason. That’s often when I and others have found that measurements have decreased. Who knows what happens? Nama’s advice is sound as usual: just focus on the doable.

Good FD yesterday with only about 250C consumed for the day. 100g of microwaved salmon and a plate of salad for dinner.

Not a FD today, so looking forward to a cafe latte at 11am. Have an almost impossible schedule of three appointments this afternoon so need to rearrange. Currently it involves driving across town twice in 90′ with a 30′ appointment in the middle, coupled with lots of road closures and speed restrictions to accommondate a b****y car race on the weekend. I detest lateness!

Take care all and keep up the good work. n xxx

Hello everyone – yes it’s me! I haven’t been following the thread for quite a while, and hope everyone is well. I don’t have a hope of reading up on what has been happening- so much goes on on this thread!

So much going on in my life at the moment too, with my poor old elderly Mum taking up a lot of my time and various other things that seem to leave me with very little spare time. Also I’ve become very involved in opposing an intensive poultry-rearing enterprise planned for our little village. At least 2 huge sheds are proposed, with a very probable third, each raising 45,000 chickens – horrible. They are the ones that are sold at 3 for a tenner in the supermarkets. I hate this kind of farming. Luckily most of our neighbours are like minded and we are doing all in our power to stop it happening. Whilst we can’t object on ethical grounds, there are health risks from dust emissions, probable odour and a large amount of heavy traffic down narrow country lanes.

Having done a quick scan I see Ply is well into the BSD. Well done you. How much have you lost? Have you started it yet Jojo? I started today with fruit and yoghurt for breakfast, veg soup for lunch and a lovely courgetti prawn recipe from the book tonight. Unfortunately I’ve got three meals out during the next week but will stick to the 800 cals in between and maybe a couple of fasts to compensate. I’ve definitely been off the straight and narrow lately and got out of the fasting habit. I haven’t weighed yet – like Amazon I’m always afraid it will make me depressed and eat more! The ‘jeans test’ tells me I’ve put on about 2kg so hope to get this off and more very quickly. I will venture onto the scales at the end of this week. I’m not sure I will follow the suggested menus though – there is an awful lot of shopping and cooking prep involved. Much as I like cooking, I don’t think I’d have time to do much else! Also, the extensive shopping list would make it all rather expensive. I will stick to the principles and incorporate as many of the recipes as I can. I’ll keep you posted.

Hi to all my other ‘old friends’ – Happy, Wee, RT, Nama, Nicky et al. Hello too to everyone who has joined recently, I hope to be in touch more often.

    Have a nice evening/day all.

    Smiffy x

Your post must have crossed with mine Jojo – good luck!

G’day Smiffy. Good to hear your “voice” here again. You’ve done well, only creeping up a little. It is so hard to take care of yourself when caring for others. I hope your mum is happy.
Climb back on the wagon. ..those looser jeans will feel SO much more comfortable.

All the best with the BSD, Jo. Enjoy the challenge. ☺ P

Thanks for your support Purple. It’s good to be back!

    Hi Smiffy,
Great to hear from you! Sorry to hear about your dear Mum, she is very lucky to have you though.
I am certain the extra few kilos will fall off once you get your head sorted. I find if I lose focus and overdo it for a special event (or holiday), anything gained comes off again quickly. You are wise to get onto it now, it could easily keep creeping up! Hopefully the BSD will give you the ‘reboot’ you need. It seems to be working for Ply and hopefully will do the same for you and Jojo!

    Smithy,
You are right it is expensive and time consuming but I am giving it a proper try because the plan has been formulated by an expert with foods that will keep you fuller longer. I have noticed lately that I am going off milk in my tea which is a good thing for this diet. I will carry my teabags everywhere and just have one cuppa with milk first thing. Are you following the ‘non alcohol’ ? It might be difficult to do 800 cals with it.
I think it might be a long 8 weeks especially with the exercise programme. Starting my push ups, squats, bicep curls, Hiit today at 15 mins total. Don’t forget to write down your statistics and pulse. Luckily I had blood tests done last month, only cholesterol was an issue. My real goal is to learn to eat slowly. I noticed again this weekend I am always the first to finish. That’s the trouble with habits of a lifetime they are very difficult to break. Food shopping today- a very long list.
Going to a new retirement group this afternoon, that should keep my mind off food. Lots of housework to catch up on too plus cat sitting and dog walking. 10,000 step minimum walk today, no time for bowls.
Amazon- don’t envy you but will be in the same boat soon, bathroom being changed in April and kitchen in June. Be nice when it’s over.
Ply- how are you feeling now?
    Have a great day everyone!

    Morning/evening all,

Grey, dull, cold and damp this morning 😞

No builders today as there is electrical work to be done next and the electrician is coming tomorrow. I’m going to the gym this morning and then going shopping to look for a bedside lamp and matching shade for the overhead light. That will keep me occupied until late afternoon.

Smiffy, good to hear from you. Sorry to hear that your Mum is still needing so much care, but good that you are able (and willing) to help. As Purple said, I hope she is happy.

Have a good one everybody 😜

Hi all and thanks Amazon Nama and Jojo.

Unfortunately my Mum is not very happy and prone to tears when I leave her. I know she would be happier in residential care with other people around her but she is determined to stay ‘independent’ which In reality means she is more dependent than ever. She has carers three times a day and I visit every other day, so we can only take it a day at a time at present.

I’m not pre-diabetic but I do like the science behind the Mediterranean diet coupled with Michael’s views that losing weight quickly with a very low calorie diet is not the mortal sin we have been given to understand it has been over the years. I want to get this weight off quickly and get back to 5.2 for maintaining. No, Jojo, I am not drinking alcohol! I had a successful ‘Dry January’ but had a very Wet February!

I am using the basic guide lines as set out in the book (i. e. Low carb, no sugar and including some fat and lots of olive oil) but using those recipes that incorporate ingredients that I already have in my cupboard and freezer. I’m fairly confident that I will be eating a wide variety of the right things as my every day eating includes a lot of these type of foods in any event.

Incidentally, there is a website for the BSD set up like this one, with a forum and some really good, illustrated recipes posted by other dieters. Worth a look from the 5.2 point of view for fast days as well.

All that said, we are meeting friends for a Nepalese meal tonight! It will mean rice, but I will be back on track tomorrow, so no harm should be done.

Hope all the work to your flat goes well, Amazon. An upheaval, but well worth it in the end.

    Have a good day/evening all.

    Smiffy x

    Hi Everyone,
Well I enjoyed Day 4 menu so far portobello mushrooms for late breakfast, sardine dip for late lunch and smoked Haddock and veg for dinner at about 6 pm. Just the sort of food I like so started on my favourite day choice. Off to Ukelele class tonight for three hours.
Tomorrow I am having Day three, looks good. I don’t know whether to repeat vegetarian days or convert to fish or tofu dishes. I think th Hrissa chicken would work well with Tofu and spicy chicken dish with lentils could be done with fish.
The exercises were not too bad as many of these are similar to my yoga exercises. I did the hit on a cross trainer but my right knee did not enjoy the turned up resistance, not even for 20 seconds at a time. Ouch!
Smithy- thanks for the tips honey. I had a few gins over the weekend as it will be a dry couple of months. We are so good are we not?
Barata- how are the new interests going? I joined a new retirement club today, they do loads of outings and even a holiday( sadly there is a waiting list). They are going to the Isle of Wight. I have always wanted to visit it so I plan to do it this year. So my five activities are done now. New Retirement Club, Garden Club, Bridge Club, Ukelele Lessons and modelling for a Charity fashion show ( don’t get too excited, it’s not Chanel just Bon Marche) I hope they don’t expect me to wear 6 inch heels. Should be fun though I get a makeover and free hair do. With luck And self discipline I will be size 14 by the time it happens in May.

    Hi everyone,
    I’ve had another good day.
I slept in this morning which is unusual for me, then went to the gym and had a great workout and a nice swim.

I went shopping this afternoon to Kingston which is a very enjoyable 30 minute bus ride away. I got a bedside lamp and matching shade which was the purpose of the trip, and managed to avoid the hot cross buns when I took a shortcut through M&S food hall. They are the only HCBs I like and I always buy some, but that will have to wait until Easter this year.

I’ve just had my FD dinner of cous cous with vegetables and chicken with a huge green salad. I know we’ve all said it numerous times but keeping busy is the answer on FDs.

I’m looking forward to a normal day tomorrow which should leave me ready for another B2B on Thursday and Friday.

With everything being upside down here I forgot to weigh myself this morning so I’ll need to do it tomorrow 😳

Jojo the BSD and your 8 week challenge will be a 800cal test however the upside is absolutely worth it how much is a life actually worth? Keep on keeping on. Happy Hump day thrill seekers

    Morning All,
Cooking time is going to be difficult today so I may need to have soup for lunch, I made loads last night after my Ukelele class.

I think 800 cals is very doable, no problem for me. I really need to get my metabolism working though, let’s hope this HIT training works?

Have a great day everyone, keep moving

    Morning/evening all,

This morning there are two builders, a carpenter and an electrician here 😆
Apparently a small miracle will be performed today and it’ll look like a room again by this evening.

Jo, what do you mean by getting your metabolism working?

I woke up feeling really hungry this morning so brunch has been brought forward.
I intended to go to the gym once the builders were settled but was informed that the plasterer can’t come tomorrow but will be here Friday and Saturday so I can go in the morning. It is a cold, wet and very windy day so it wasn’t a difficult decision to stay here in the warm and dry if rather noisy place that I call home 😉

    Have good one everybody 😜

Jo, I’m curious….why do you need to “get your metabolism working”. As Dr M says, exercise is irrelevant at this stage for weight loss. It is important in maintenance. Concentrate on the limited food at this stage. Get it right and you’ll be winning 😀 I’m here to support your success, mate P

Surely if your metabolism isn’t working you’re dead?!
