  • Well done on the water fasts RT & Jojo! And the ukelele sounds like fun ….. I went to my oil painting class last night, and yes – food is the last thing one thinks of when struggling with new skills!

You can have some of Melbourne’s heat too Jojo – 38 yesterday with nasty hot winds, resulted in a few homes being lost to a bushfire near Ballarat (where you visited). Fortunately no lives lost. Warm again today, but only 29, hoping this is the last blast of Summer! Good luck with the 3rd day!

Carpet shopping today, final renovations to kids old rooms. This should cause a few arguements! We can never agree – he goes on price, I go on looks!

    Nama,
My best friend’s daughter and friends son live in Ballarat, I hope they are OK?

I did painting classes years ago, I loved them, preferred doing portraits though. New skill learning is the way to go to help our brains remain active in our senior years.

I really miss the heat after having two summers back to back.

Carpets are down for a long, long time, you definitely need something that feels and looks beautiful.

Jojo on my study of one after a 4 day water/tea fast I go for a LCHF of a 3 egg scramble fresh from the family farm and 2 rashers of bacon on my fitnesspal that is 446cal and 0 carb and very moreish evening meal for me. After the 3rd day we have entered the wholly grail of ketosis so we have now switched to optimum fat burning mode.
    What is ketosis?
In normal circumstances, the body’s cells use glucose as their main form of energy. Glucose is typically derived from dietary carbohydrates, including sugar and starchy foods such as bread and pasta which the body breaks down into simple sugars. Glucose can either be used to fuel the body or stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen.1
If there is not enough glucose available to meet energy demands, the body will adopt an alternative strategy in order to meet those demands. Specifically, the body begins to break down fat stores to provide glucose from triglycerides. Ketones are a by-product of this process.
Ketones are acids that build up in the blood and are eliminated in urine. In small amounts, they serve to indicate that the body is breaking down fat, but high levels of ketones can poison the body, leading to a process called ketoacidosis.2
Ketosis describes the metabolic state whereby the body converts fat stores into energy, releasing ketones in the process.3
    The ketogenic diet

Some people follow a ketogenic diet as a way to lose weight.
Due to the fact that ketosis breaks down fat stored within the body, some diets aim to create this metabolic state so as to facilitate weight loss.
Ketosis diets are also referred to as ketogenic diets, ket diets, or sometimes low-carbohydrate diets. The diet itself can be regarded as a high-fat diet, with around 75% of calories derived from fats. In contrast, around 20% and 5% of calories are gained from proteins and carbohydrates respectively.4
Adhering to the ketogenic diet can lead to short-term weight loss. A study conducted in 2008 and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that obese men following a ketogenic diet for 4 weeks lost an average of 12 lbs during this time. The participants were able to consume fewer calories without feeling hungry while following the diet.5
According to the Mayo Clinic, the ketogenic diet could have a healthful effect on serious health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. It may also improve levels of HDL cholesterol better than other moderate-carbohydrate diets. 6
These health benefits could be due to the loss of excess weight and eating of healthier foods, rather than a reduction in carbohydrates.
The ketogenic diet has also been used under medical supervision to reduce seizures in children with epilepsy who do not respond to other forms of treatment. Some studies have suggested that the diet could also benefit adults with epilepsy, although more research is required to confirm these findings.7,8
However, longer-term adherence to the ketogenic diet does not appear to yield great benefit. A 2014 review of diets found that after a year, the difference between a ketogenic diet and a normal protein diet was only around 1 lb (roughly 0.4 kg).
The American Heart Association (AHA), American College of Cardiology, and the Obesity Society have concluded that there is not enough evidence to suggest that low-carbohydrate diets such as the ketogenic diet provide benefits healthful to the heart.

    Jo,

I’m very impressed that you’re heading into day 3 of a no food fast. Good work!

In terms of breaking a fast, I’ve read that you want to be gentle on your digestive system and start with small easily digestible meals and work up to solid foods. So fruit or vegetable broth, moving on to vegetables and vegetable soup, with grains, nuts, eggs and meat coming in last. So a thin veg soup sounds like a good plan!

    Morning/evening all,

Cold, frosty and sunny again here in London πŸ˜ƒ

One of the easiest foods to digest and gentle on the constitution is egg, so I would go with RT’s scrambled egg but without the bacon. We all know that egg protein seems to keep us full for longer and that it because it is broken down slowly so doesn’t rush through an empty gut and cause an upset.

I’m sure Jojo will work it out and maybe her body will tell her what it wants and so long as that isn’t a Big Mac and fries she’ll be fine πŸ˜‰

I’ve lost another 1lb which makes me very happy, but even better I didn’t have a single back spasm yesterday, so I’m continuing with the McKenzie stretches and working on my posture. The back roll is very comfy and made me realise how badly I slouch, especially when sitting on my sofa. I’m hopeful that I’ve finally worked out the problem AND found the solution.

I’m going to make the most of the sunshine and go for a walk along the towpath,

have a good one everybody 😜

    Hi all,

Pleased to go down 2.5 kilos. First time to go below 80 kilos in the last FOUR YEARS! I’m pleased with that and honestly I couldn’t have done it without this forum!!! I’m pleased and determined to be patient to go and reach my goals.

Thanks everybody and keep it up!!!

    Good Morning All,
Thanks for the advice and information. RT – Does that mean I really need to do four days not three? I thought MM did 3, did I get that wrong? Scrambled egg sounds great although not tempted by the meat option. I may add a tiny bit of cheese for taste. I am on the last leg now and looking forward to dinner tonight. I have just weighed in and have lost another pound so that is four this week, thrilled especially as it is through a stone barrier(2 nd time through this one sadly) Question is will my weight jump up tomorrow on a non fast day( my usual 1200 cals). At least on my weekend away I will be busy bowling. Sadly there is a tradition of cakes, biscuits and sausage rolls in breaks but I plan to avoid these by taking apples and oranges. I will stick to porrige at breakfast, soup at lunch and light dinner, preferably fish.
I am taking a book and my Ukelele on the journey to practise my chords( no strumming) don’t want to drive people crazy. I plan to memorise the finger positions of 6 chords and move between them quickly. Apparently they usually come in the same sequence within songs so I can learn them in sets. Who knew? Georgette Formby here I come!
I slept well last night as I stopped drinking at 9 pm but it took me awhile to get off to sleep. I have always had problems sleeping of 500 calorie fast days so this does not deter me from water fasts in future. I am seriously considering doing this weekly until I reach goal then stepping it down one day at a time. It depends on how I feel and if I notice any change in my health. Currently I cannot see any disadvantages. I will of course have to ensure that the other four days of every week are packed with nutritional food and home cooking. Might be easier to plan to shop and cook for 4 days rather than 7. How far I have come in two years, I am finally in control of eating.

Don’t worry I am not going to become an anorexic, I have set my goal at the top of my weight parameters. Don’t wish to get scraggy in my senior years. I may have a tummy tuck though, I will see when I get to goal.

It’s a sunny and mild day here so off to walk along the coast for an hour with my dogs. This afternoon I am in a Ladies competitive bowls match. Hope it goes well I need to impress them if I want to get on the team more often.

Amazon- Great news about the stretches helping. Can’t wait to join you again at Kew.

Life is good, smile and keep moving. RT, PVE and Wiwi-thank you for showing me that water/tea fasting is doable.

Top work on the long fast, Jo. Seems like you’ve cracked it!!! πŸ‘πŸ‘ P

Wow, Jojo, you sound very active. Since I retired I’ve been rather less so. I used to do a lot of sailing and kayaking, but now I do more longer distance swimming (1-3 miles or so) which is fun and as I live near the sea it’s easy to do in summer. But over winter my local pool has been closed. So now I’ve to start again with the training as I’m joining friends for a week of coastal swimming in July, max probably 3-4 miles. Lovely walks round here too.

I’ve just been looking at another of Jenny Ruhl’s booklets, “Low Carb Problems Solved”, already recommended on this site by someone else. It is Β£3 on Kindle ( her other ones are around Β£6); it tackles each of the problems that low carb dieters might face and helps with solutions. It adds just enough of the technical stuff for you to understand what is happening. For example, if you eat low carbs but on the borderline of ketogenic, you can be going up and down with the carbs slightly therefore in and out of ketosis, which makes your system yoyo between fat burning and carb burning. This makes your kidneys dispel and hold salts intermittently, can make your weight fluctuate by a few pounds. She recommends that you either go lower and stay in ketosis or raise the carbs slightly so you’re in low carb but not ketosis diet. Very interesting in terms of both the 5:2 and the BSD, especially as the latter is a steady, very low cal and low carb diet. She has many other useful gems.

RougeTrader, that’s a really useful rundown of Keto diets. Thank you. The lack of difference after a year may be because when you start to up the carbs again, the body stores slightly more glycogens than before as a sort of insurance policy against being starved of carbs. This may be why some people who went on shakes diets for 2-3 months put on weight quite fast when returning to normal food.

    Hi all,
Glorious day out there, sun shining, people smiling, many dog walkers willing to chat today, often we are head down battling the wind and rain, willing ourselves to get home to the warm comfy sofa. I feel very light and slim today especially around the stomach. Took lots of pictures for my daughter in NZ but will post a few on Facebook. Found a Scotsman for you Wee.
Smithy – just been looking at the photos of France, miss you lots, we must arrange a meet. Do you fancy here, London or further your way, or Paris? Can’t go until May though, Comitted to this diet for March and April. I have got hundreds of invites for both months, it’s so difficult. I have agreed to any that exclude eating at the moment. I am going to a 60’s night one week and an 80’s night the next, I will be on the dance floor all night.
Apricot- sea swimming is something I would like to explore as I am a distance swimmer but a bit of a wimp. Do you use a wet suit, our coastal water is freezing, English Channel. Do you go out in a group? What about jelly fish?
Mouth feels like a parrots cage today so I will need to buy some sugar free gum. Thank goodness for honey and camomile tea.
I think the fear of no food fasting is actually worse than doing it. That’s my peal of wisdom for today.

    Hi Jo,

I was thinking of you this morning when I was out walking. I decided to get the bus to Richmond and do a few errands and then walk back through Kew! It was glorious, so much colour from all the spring bulbs, trees in bud, birds singing and the smell of grass where they’ve been busy laying new turf alonside some of the paths.
Well done on your 3 day fast, so far so good.

The reason I mentioned scrambled eggs is that when I was looking after a relative who had been very ill and unable to eat for a week, the dietician recommended eggs.

Before I went out this morning I soaked a few oats in almond milk and have had Bircher muesli for brunch. I had some at the weekend too and it is really good. It may be the future for me rather than granola as it is less calorific and quick to make. I added a mix of blueberries, goji berries, goldenberries, almonds, seeds and topped it with yoghurt, yum yum πŸ™‚

My back is much improved this morning, it is usually so stiff when I first get out of bed that I can’t bend over and even getting dressed is an issue. I picked something up from the floor this morning without even thinking about it. Fingers crossed it continues to improve because I am so fed up with it.

I’ve alsofound time to do some more decluttering, the dump beckoons πŸ˜†

Great work Amazon. Bircher muesli sounds good. I haven’t seed goji berries locally. What are golden berries? I am such a bumpkin.

My daughter got her three year visa, celebrations here and in NZ.

Both can be found in Holland & Barrett.
Goldenberries have quite a tart flavour which is why I like them and unlike many dried berries they don’t have added sugar πŸ˜‡

So very glad to hear your back is better of late, Amazon. Chronic pain is awful.

Great job, Tasa! We all love to break through those barriers!

Congrats on finishing (I think by now) your fast! We all knew you would be successful!

Hi Jojo what a fantastic achievement 72 hours is plenty long enough well done you take a bow. Our old friend Samm had 2 x 27 hour water fasts in his weekly plan in 4-3 mode and In the doco eat fast and live longer Michael had water black tea and one cup of 25cal miso soup in the evening over 4 days. Amazon has the knowledge here in for us in regards to what is deemed to break fast it may have been 35cal and under does not affect the long fast some research is required my moi πŸ˜‰ my SA fast friends Nicky AO and Emel been rather quiet hope all is for you guys well all that steady rain yesterday we got 12mil in the gauge has my already made my lawns a shade of green and all my tomatoes sing for joy have happy day people.

β€œRemember that reserve of fat you have on your body already and realise you actually don’t need food, you just want it.”
The less you eat the more you lose.
    Peace RT

    Hooray, I did it.
But seriously the last hour was hell. I was playing bowls and looking forward to going home to make an omelette when I was told that Kent League Games are longer and include a meal. What! Turns out I had to order a cheese salad as two other choices were non vegetarian. They really don’t cater for vegetarians I couldn’t even get a dressing that wasn’t salad cream, so it was both tasteless and naked. When I said surely you have balsamic vinegar they laughed at me. Honestly it’s the dark ages at that club, foodwise. So not a very enjoyable break of my fast after three days, so dissapointing. Luckily we won the game 22/14 so it wasn’t all bad.

I think this long water/tea fast is a positive step for me but I will decide after weight results over the next few days. If my weight jumps up again it probably isn’t worth it. If I keep most of the loss off I will give it another go.

It’s a beautiful full moon tonight, stunningly clear.

Now to make my shopping list for next weeks BSD.

    Hi RT

I’ve read in several different articles that it needs 40+ calories to take you out of ketosis, but I don’t see the importance of it in the grand scheme of things. Either the calorie deficit created is sufficient to lose weight or not and most of us have lost more than a few pounds/kilos and have obviously lost fat.

I had a long look at the reserve of fat on my body this morning and as far as my eyes can see there isn’t too much of it left. That thought stopped me from buying a cheese and ham croissant today plus the thought that croissants may contain sugar and I’ve given that up for Lent πŸ˜‰

    Well done Jo πŸ™‚

Interesting reading here about the extended fasting. Just this week I have started doing 2 – 24 hour fasts a week. I had a successful one on Monday and another scheduled for tomorrow. Not sure I’d be up for 3 days…..good job Jo!

Also glad that the daughter’s Visa came through! Celebrations for sure!

There is a TV programme on Now talking about living on shakes only. There are volunteers on a 7 day plan. So far they are not enjoying their shakes. They don’t like the taste or texture and they are getting hunger pangs. They are also talking about quorn. Very interesting.

    Amazon,

Great news that your fat reserves have diminished, and that you can take a long look at yourself…presumably unclothed! I don’t know about you, but pre-5:2 I really didn’t want to have to look at any part of me naked.

I must admit I’m still not entirely familiar with the new me, two years on, and I’m not even sure I’d pick me out of an anonymous line-up!

I used to dread finding myself in front of a mirror and these days am pleasantly surprised when it happens.

I was actually looking at my posture and noticed how much better everything (even the residual flab) looks if I stand up straight.

Another day has passed without a back spasm. I could get used to this πŸ˜„

So there will be mushroom treated chocolate on the market within a few months. It will contain half the sugar of normal chocolate, so 1/4 of a bar. Good news for chocoholics.

They are also growing meat from stem cells, it takes 8 weeks. They think this will be available in less than 10 years. Roll on Quorn I say, it has less calories and is low cholesterol. I think it tastes great in Shepherdess Pie.

Well done on achieving your goal, Jo.
My understanding with Michael’s original long fast, on the doco, was that he was trialling different ways to improve his health outcomes. He worked his way from the long fast, which he realised was difficult, long term, to the 5:2 system, which achieved the results he was after and was long term doable. He was not promoting long fasts.
Mind you, having achieved 3 days, you now know how easy it is to fast and how hungry you feel when you start anticipating food again! 😊 Now keep an eye on the non fast days and you’ll win. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ P

There are also goats producing human breast milk and computers designing recipes. They are also using 3d printers to produce food, it made an exotic spiral pasta which a chef then added tomato sauce to, apparently it was delicious in both taste and texture yet there was no egg included, weird. They are genetically modifying tomatoes with a snapdragon flower to get purple tomatoes thereby making it a super fruit.

Tomorrows Food is a great programme full of inspiring ideas.

PVE- yes I know but he was lucky to be able to lose 2 lb per week on 5:2, I am lucky to lose 1 lb on 3 x 500 cal fasts. Agreed it worked better on 350 max but that is actually harder than no food in my opinion. But I am very aware that health comes first. I need to deal with my cholesterol within 6 months and hopefully weight loss will help. I also need to consider effects of fasting on my gall bladder. Complex business this lark. My journey will hopefully be quicker and doable with no food fasts.

As long as it works Jo. 😊
Re breastmilk…human breastmilk is already made by humans!!!

Hi Jojo just a quick update to say you was right and I was WRONG 😳 it was Professor Valtor Longo who does the 4 day fast and Dr M did a 3 day 4 night fast please accept my apologizes I watched the eat fast & live longer again this morning.
Once again stand up and take a bow you have broken through the wall i reckon πŸ˜‰
    Peace RT

Well done on the fast Jojo, I will also be very interested to see how your weight pans out the next few days. Great news for your daughter. I admire your putting her interests above your own, shows how much you love her! I fretted when one son moved an hour away!

I am with you Purple re the engineered human breast milk! No way I would be feeding that to an infant…. I am so welded on to ‘natural’ principles – we are having a big row at present re buying wool or nylon carpet!! Husband all for ‘new’ technology (improvements in nylon, wearability, cost etc etc) and I am trying to convince him I just want wool because its natural! He thinks I am just stubborn – mmm our last carpets lasted 28 years and they are pure wool. Mostly they still look great, apart from kids rooms that had various red wines etc spilled. Sorry getting off the point a bit here!

Nama, our new carpet, stain resistant is made from corn fibre! So there IS a compromise πŸ˜†

Purple we did see that one – husband very keen but my conservative nature reared its head again. The claims seem too good to be true, but the warranties are amazing. Feels lovely and soft too…. you think if we cant eat corn syrup we should be walking on it instead?!

Actually I think the goats could fulfill a humanitarian role in area where there is a high child death rate, where children are starving and where water is unsafe. The milk has properties to protect children from diarrhoea and has other healing properties. I think mothers in these areas don’t produce milk if they are starving. Much better to give them goats than tins of powder which is then mixed with unsafe water. Of course there needs to be grass to feed the goats and education to look after them. Complex business. But we drink cow and goat milk already, this is just one with the X factor.

Corn fibre carpet sounds good, we must move with the times Nama, take a risk. I will be looking soon so I will bear it in mind. Weight remained the same today, yesterday’s total cals were 800. I suspect it might jump up a pound or two on 1200 cals but we will see.

Ref- daughter- no point having her nearby if she isn’t happy. Thank goodness FaceTime or Skype make communication so easy these days. She will be missed at big occasions and for cuddles but we are in touch most days by email. It will be tougher when my son leaves for the states, his girlfriend not keen to go so that will be an issue plus he is not great at keeping in touch. But I think he will be here for a couple of years. My trips to them will be long ones though. I can’t believe my friend is travelling to her daughter in Melbourne for just a week, too much in my book, her travel time is in that, not fun.

Not fasting today but watching those calories carefully. Good luck to all you Thurday Fasters. I have a very busy day planned including two builders three activities so I need to get going. Keep moving.

    Ok
A pleasant surprise im enjoying .
didn’t think about sooner. But just sharing. So save this for future consideration.
    so here goes
Adf i never got two days of eating tdee
On 4:3 Only 1 occurances of a weekend of eating.
    5:2 I slowed on weight loss .
    Ok heres the nugget.
    on my current 4:3 schedule
I have two occurances of 2 days in row of feed days.
so basically it’s two weekend menus per week.
    This is how it goes
    27 hrs water fast 0cals
    12hrs feed Window 2000cals
    27 hrs water fast 0cals
    33hrs feed Window 4000cals
    36hr fast 600cals
    33hrs feed Window 4000cals
    168 hours in the week
    14000 weekly bmr 2000 daily
    8600 cal weekly menu
    =5400 calorie restriction +2000 exercise calories=2lbs

Trying to charge my Internet device. I’m lost on the thread.
Just poking in to say I’m happy with the 4:3 this way.
Ate my last feed day 500 cal meal at lunchtime at 5am clocked out at 1130am.
Went straight home and slept till 5pm when wife and daughter were home. They ate around 8.
Went outside in the cold and jumped rope 12 minutes.
Came back in asked if they needed anything and they didn’t so I went back to bed.
Woke up around 5 am and just puttered around organizing things and listening to them snore.
At 8am I broke the fast with oat bran and walnuts for 500 calories.
On Saturday I get 2000 for my BMR.
I put in the schedule like this.
    8am 500 calories
    12:30pm 500 calories
    5 pm 500 calories
9 pm 500 calories Saturday night
I won’t eat again until 12:01 am Monday morning
This puts two 27hr water fasts over the weekend so I can eat normally during the work week.
Since Wednesday is usually only 7 hrs long I take it as a 600 calorie day eating 300 when I go in and another 300 at lunch. I can make it a typical semi fast 5:2 style day.
Weighing in today at the gym
    From 274 march 2013
    Now 211 Feb 2015
This 4:3 offers me 5,400 in calorie restriction, and I exercise approx 2,000 calories worth a week .
I seem to be losing just under 2lbs a week.
What I’m finding doable is most of my meals on feed days are 500 of 2000 calories.
I get to 8600 calories a week so I’m not feeling deprived . However Im adapting to eating the healthiest foods that not only provide the macro nutrition , but also add health benefits. Im finding that I never run out an appetite for those healthiest foods. The hunger sorta makes me less fickle. So opening a can of skip jack and making a wasbi Lunch on feed days is finding it’s way into my fast days too.
At the 199lbs mark I’m going to seek the four day water fasting approach. Doing the blood work under a doctors care. It’s only 11 lbs away. So it’s a motivating short term goal. I’m hoping to reach 199lbs by April 1st shortly after a two week planned break late march. I want to stay on TDEE with no fasting during the planned break and see if I can maintain the 199lb weight. After that I try to work in the Igf-1 fasting approach. As I believe that may become something doable followed by 4:3 . I’m just guessing that after being obese for over twenty years. The igf1 approach may be only way I can think of increase the longevity. I’m also looking at the probiotic and immune system information that occurs with the 96hrs water fasting. That it also may be factors in longevity to rebuild gut flora from time to time. Hoping I can do the
96hrs water fasting 4 times a year just after the 4 planned breaks. In That way I can still keep working on the strength training for 13 weeks of the year. Even though it’s an overall plan… It still feels like a doable ten week fasting plan followed by two weeks of break. So I don’t feel overwhelmed or deprived.
This is from my vault of SAMM
    Enjoy
    Peace RT.

    Hi everyone,

After a cloudy start it is now still cold but sunny which is fab as I’m meeting my niece and great nephew later for a walk in the park.

I went to the gym this morning which for some reason was very hard but I got through it. I’m fasting today and not feeling hungry yet which is good news.
I made a batch of veg and tofu vindaloo last night and it has made three huge 350 calorie portions so I’m looking forward to dinnner this evening. I’ll be ready for it after a walk. The builder has confirmed he’ll be starting on Monday so I’ll be shifting furniture around this evening.
My back continues to be spasm free which is nothing short of a miracle 😎

    Hi everyone,
Surprize, surprize I was not even hungry today. Just stopped for a small bowl gut flora soup which was delicious. Fish and 6 veg tonight, boosting my gut flora some more. I had expected to be starving today. Everything I have read says that post fast you tend to overeat. Seems my system doesn’t fit to normal eating routines. So good news!

I am planning my new kitchen which is lots of fun but a bit concerned about the cost especially after doing the bathroom. trouble is my heart really isn’t in it. Dread having the builders in again.

How is week 2 going on BSD Ply? Still hungry? Any tummy aches?

That is amazing about your back, Amazon! Don’t overdo it with the furniture moving!Enjoy the outdoors with your family.

Glad to hear post-fasting is going well, Jojo. BSD is good, almost through Week 2. I don’t know if I mentioned that I am combining it with 16:8, which helps with the calorie restriction. I have found most of the meals very tasty and filling. I am definitely going to have some wine this Saturday at a family party, which I am looking forward to! (family, party, and wine!) We’ll see what the scale says on Monday morning.

I do still have a bit of a pain in my upper abdomen, which I am thinking may be a touch of gastritis. If so, it would not seem to be related to BSD based on the information I have read. If it keeps up into next week, I will make an appointment with my doctor.

    Afternoon all,

I’m just back from a very bracing walk in the park with my niece. My great nephew is gorgeous but fractious today which we think is the beginning of teething.
We went to a coffee shop where my FD and my no added sugar challenge suffered a blip in the form of a slice of chocolate cheesecake. Im mitigation my niece wanted some and wouldn’t have any because I said no and it wasn’t a difficult decison to change my mind. Having said that, I’ve had nothing else to eat today and I am so full I can’t imagine wanting my dinner so it might result in an unhealthy FD!
I’ll continue with the no added sugar until the end of Lent, to be honest I’m surprised how easy it was until today.
I’ve also done nearly 18000 steps, 8000 of which were on the treadmill this morning, no wonder I’m tired.

Jo, I think your not overeating is more to do with your frame of mind as you sound very focussed and determined. Well done you πŸ™‚

Hi ply, yes it is amazing and I’m going to keep doing the stretches for at least a month regardless of whether I have any further issues.

    They walk among us
    > I walked into a Blimpie’s with a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a sandwich.
I handed it to the girl and she looked over at a little chalkboard hat said “Buy one-get one free”.
“They’re already buy-one-get-one-free”, she said, “so I guess they’re both free”.
She handed me my free sandwiches………
……….and I walked out the door.

They walk among us and many work retail.
    ====================

A friend of mine bought a new fridge for his house.
To get rid of his old fridge, he put it in his front yard and hung a sign on it saying:

“Free to good home. You want it, you take it.”

For three days the fridge sat there without even one person looking twice at it.
My friend decided that people were too untrusting of this deal.
It looked too good to be true, so he changed the sign to read: “Fridge for sale Β£50.”
The next day someone stole it.

    They walk among us.
    ====================

One day I was walking down the beach with some friends when one of
them shouted, “Look at that dead bird!”
Someone looked up at the sky and said, “Where?”

    They walk among us!
    ====================

While looking at a house, my brother asked the real estate agent which
direction was north because, he explained, he didn’t want the sun
    waking him up every morning.
She asked, “Does the sun rise in the North?”
When my brother explained that the sun rises in the east, and has for
sometime, she shook her head and said, “Oh, I don’t keep up with that stuff.”

    They Walk Among Us!!
    ====================

I used to work in technical support for a 24/7 call centre.
One day I got a call from an individual who asked what hours the call centre was open.
I told him, “The number you dialled is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a Week.”
He responded, “Is that Eastern or Pacific time?”
Wanting to end the call quickly, I said, “Uh, Pacific.”

    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================

My colleague and I were eating our lunch in our cafeteria, when we
overheard one of the administrative assistants talking about the
sunburn she got on her weekend drive to the shore.
She drove down in a convertible, but “didn’t think she’d get sunburned because the car was moving.”

    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================

My sister has a lifesaving tool in her car designed to cut through a
seat belt if she gets trapped. She keeps it in the trunk.

    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================

I was hanging out with a friend when we saw a woman with a nose ring
attached to an earring by a chain.
My friend said, “Wouldn’t the chain rip out every time she turned her head?”
I explained that a person’s nose and ear remain the same distance
apart no matter which way the head is turned.

    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================

I couldn’t find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to
the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never
    showed up.
She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained
professional and I was in good hands.
“Now,” she asked me, “has your plane arrived yet?”

    They Walk Among Us!
    ====================

While working at a pizza parlour I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go.
He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6.
He thought about it for some time before responding.
“Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don’t think I’m hungry enough to eat 6 pieces.”

    Yep, They Walk Among Us!
    ====================
They walk among us, AND they reproduce.

Have a happy weekend all you beautiful losers πŸ˜‰
    Peace RT

    Hi Ply,
I am a bit concerned about your gall bladder, that is how mine started at the end of December. Not scare mongering but just warning you. Have you had ultrasound done in your recent check. My Doctors thinks I have probably had them for years, not unusual at age 60, aggravated by different diet over Christmas. One of the clues is burping. Hope whatever it is clears up. Glad you have it under control.
I will find out on Friday next week if surgery is recommended or not.
Just packing my case ready for a bowling trip, water, fruit and nuts ready for journey and games, not sure if wifi will be available but I have 4G on my phone.

Amazon- I think doing the fast certainly helped my confidence, it’s always good to beat the enemy ( lack of willpower). I need results for my efforts, it motivates me to continue. I am very glad I don’t have a sweet tooth. Chocolate is not a temptation at all. I am a bit worried about what sort of food will be available this weekend. Oh well it’s not like I am not used to coping with hotel food.

RT- thanks for the jokes, always welcome.
I hope everyone has a great weekend, keep moving.

Gallbladder has definitely crossed my mind, Jojo. Burping has been a symptom, and I almost NEVER burp. My pain seems to be on e left, rather than the right side, however. The symptoms for various ailments are all about the same. If it persists, I will see my doctor for further investigation. Thanks for thinking of me!

    Hi Ply,
My pain was central and low, waistline area, no predicting it really. Is the burping directly following a meal with milk, cream, fat and seemingly never ending? That’s what happened to me. I also felt nausea after meals yet was never actually sick thank goodness. Diet changes can be tricky things.
I was cooking for family tonight, they were very alarmed at the number and types of veg albiet small quantities of each. Really filling, no room for pud, even a piece of fruit.

    Good night, sweet dreams

Glad to be awake after a dreadful nights sleep. I have a real feeling of gloom today having been disturbed by bad dreams. I dreamt that I was sitting opposite someone in a restaurant who was served with a steak which was crawling with maggots. All the staff were too busy to deal with the complaint. Must not eat cheese at dinner time again.

Not helped being woken by very distraught gull this morning. Oh well press on, I need to get my packing done for Great Yarmouth.

At least no weight regained after 1200 calories yesterday but I will check daily and try to stay under 1200.

    Have a great day everyone

Oh, Dear, Jojo, what a dream! Last week you had a dream about finding food and resisting it, and now your subconscious has gone one step further. It knows that you are going to have a weekend full of temptation, so it is further steeling your resolve and your gut to resist! Listen and stay strong, my friend!

    Hi everyone,

I’ve spent the morning shifting furniture etc and all that is left in my bedroom is the bed and bedside cabinet. I’m trying to do a few things every day as I don’t want to overdo it and hurt my back.
All going well today both with my back and my FD although I want something sweet which I think is down to yesterday’s slice of cheesecake. I am determined to stick to my fast if I have to tape my mouth πŸ˜†

I have measured the bedroom window and ordered a Roman blind on-line. I read three different sets of instructions on how to measure and then measured the window three times. I’m 99% confident but the other 1% is nagging away in the back of my mind……

Have a good weekend everybody 😜

    Ply,
My group forgot to tell the hotel I am vegetarian so I have been offered cheese salad for dinner. I refused and said I will have the roast without the meat and gravy. Seriously! I am so sick of this! It’s ridiculous in this day and age not to have a hot vegetarian option in the middle of a Brifish Winter. Don’t worry about me going off piste, the force is strong in me Ha Ha. But I did forget to pack my travel scales sadly.
Three days bowling with typical bowling food laid on( high sugar, meat and carb) I won’t be eating it. I have water, fruit, nuts and olives with me.

Saying that I am sitting in a cafe with a cuppa and a toasted tea cake (lunch)with margarine( because they don’t have butter) but I sent the jam back. Tea is gross (UHT) milk. So tomorrow I stick with hot water and my own green tea. There are some corners that should not be cut, butter and proper milk are two of them. My room is excellent, warm, double bed and TV, ensuite and tea/coffee making facilities( not bad for Β£25.00 per night B & B.
I will put some photos of Facebook. Truely incredible buildings but the place looks sad and shabby in winter like most seaside towns( mainly closed). Most importantly the natives are friendly.

Well the first of my 6 planned 96 hour zero calorie fasts for the year has ended and it must be said I was not ravenous in any way whatsoever really & I feel enriched and re energised I do feel as though I could go longer and I think that 20yo boy trapped inside this 53yo body πŸ˜‰ who wants to take on the world and win all the big challenges does wonder if 7 14 or even 21 days is doable πŸ’‘ I did miss the texture flavour and the mouth feel experience of the food and the scrambled egg & bacon was an extraordinary fine dining experience I can assure you πŸ˜† I am currently reading the journal of a Dr Jack Goldstein (D.P.M.) Triumph Over Disease by Fasting And Natural Diet .Set in 1964 where he documents daily his six week fast experience.

Here is the inspiring, controversial, true story of a man who was treated medically for six years for a debilitating disease, ulcerative colitis , which under standard medical care by qualified and respected physicians progressed to a point close to death. In the course of his six-year ordeal, Dr. Goldstein changed from a happy, successful, and confident man with everything to live for to a wasted, drug-infected, despairing man whose only hope, he was told, lay in agreeing to submit to one of the most radical and drastic operations known to medical science–a total colectomy, or complete removal of the large intestine and rectum. For the rest of his life he would be forced to wear a bag attached to his abdomen for the collection and elimination of waste.
At this point, tortured by the thought of becoming a physiologic cripple and even contemplating suicide, he was led to a natural way of life which incorporated fasting and a vegetarian diet that actually allowed his body to heal itself. Dr. Goldstein gives a detailed account of a six-week fast he undertook in a controlled environment and under the supervision of a doctor–which literally saved his life. He also records the day by-day physical and mental changes, which occurred, and describes his new way of life based on the principles of natural diet.
It is an amazing, almost unbelievable, story that offers hope and inspiration in addition to sound advice on how to achieve your natural radiant good health.

    Wow, RT, congratulations!

    Hi RT,

Well done on your fast, I couldn’t manage 4B2B with 500 calories when I tried but maybe no food at all is easier. I’m not sure how I’d cope without milk in my tea and coffee though.
I’m really struggling today, fantasising about fish and chips and beer. I’ve resorted to putting my nightclothes on to stop me going to the chippie and it’s only 6.30pm!

    Amazon,

Good luck…with not going to the chippie in your PJs!

I’ve started on the fermented grape juice… Not sure I like the Friday night six nations matches, but at least I can calm my nerves! All day drinking on match day is a distant memory now… Well maybe 10 years anyway πŸ™‚

    RT,

I think I posted that link a while ago. I KNOW I didn’t explain so eloquently why anyone should read it πŸ™‚

On the subject of ‘They walk among us!’, tonight’s local news reported the case of two drug dealers who were given suspended sentences…and within 90 minutes were on social media mocking the judge and making offensive sexual comments about her. Guess what? She recalled them and sent them down πŸ™‚

I’ve given myself a good talking to especially as last time I went to the chippie it wasn’t as enjoyable or as satisfying as I thought it would be. I have got some chicken out of the freezer and will dine on coq au vin at the weekend as a reward for not breaking my fast. I know that’ll taste good especially if accompanied by extra vin πŸ˜‰
