  • Hi Everyone.
Sorry for my all over the place posting :),but i thought i can keep you updated.
Today was the end of my week 2 of 3-4 fasting, and i have only lost 0.500g which is 1.1 pounds i think, the week before was my first week of fasting and i lost a total of 2.2 kg,and this week is only 0.500g.
I am happy even if i continue like this, because for me is very hard to lose any weight at all because of my underactive thyroids.
Yesterday i did 30 min exercise on my Tony little gazelle power toning program, and i was sooo tired.and i did all 30 min with the resistance bands on.
Here is a link to the video.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, sorry that i am not mentioning the names one by one,but like i said i am new here.
I am looking forward to week 3 so till then, have a good time everyone, keep each other updated 🙂

    Ahhh my Dear-Diary boys ‘n girls….

I start my day circa 04h30-05h00 every day for the last 50 years so come 07h00 or so me is very, very hungry… these days my breakie is a pretty repetitive 3-egg whites whipped with a tablespoon of nonfat milk, microwaved served with fresh mexican no-fat spicy Salsa…keeps me for hours! lots tea & water, if I get hungry and ONLY when hunger comes a knockin’ I first have a big cuppa tasty ‘French’ bouillon to see if that’s enough if not…maybe a wee bit of smoked fish (or other protein) rolled in a lettuce leaf with salsa or Kimchi or?? (or three portions as caloric intake about 50 per roll), if the hunger starts making a big fuss. Then a light 200-300 calorie (or less) lunch, supper is 100-200 something yummy…this works for me

Even though I became an executive running my own international company I started out as a ‘hippy’ and so Kellogg’s and such related bad-food media hasn’t been in my sphere of influence for decades, also my parents, grandparents and great grandparents are/were Seventh-Day-Adventist believers, non-drinkers, non-smokers and other then my parents they were all were strict vegetarians and hard working country folk and each one lived until their late 90s, no diabetes, no death by cancer. I still remember my great grandparents going for their daily morning swim after a breakfast of porridge with toasted seeds, stewed prunes, goat milk and 1-boiled egg, no coffee or black tea or drink for any of them…funny that I remember that so well My parents only ate meat they ‘knew’ or they themselves killed deer, elk, salmon, pheasant, trout or animals they raised. Most everything was homemade…coarse whole wheat bread, homemade peanut butter and such things.

And earthquakes? Yes, I do have a very big dog. I was in Christchurch CBD for Feb2011 and the 1989 California earthquake epicenter was 7-miles from my house…. so it goes. Now the GARDEN!

Sony1 I actually started 5:2 on 23rd Dec 2015 but it took me 4+ weeks of messin’ and trickn’ myself trying to cut corners or skip the harder aspects of the program to I finally cop-on, settle down and JUST DO IT. And for me,the results speak for themselves.
Firstly, I got my current (shocking) BMI results and created my correct BMI goal. Only took my neck and waist measurements (these two are the MOST important) and measure them 1x per month on the same day, I take my weight 1x a week at the same time and I have a long term FINAL’Goal’ for these as well. I have given myself 7-months to achieve my -ultimate, weight, BMI and measurement goals (weight circa 19kg/3stone/42lbs)

Welcome… I hope this works for you as it has started to do for me. I’m very happy and FEEL good in both mind and body. Have faith in yourself, stay strong and if you fail, try again.

    Morning/evening all,

I visited a friend yesterday and drank far too much fermented grape juice. I’m surprised I don’t have a sore head!

No brunch today to compensate for the extra calories I drank. I roasted a chicken yesterday and am making stock with the carcass and it smells delicious.
I love leftover chicken almost as much as the roast. I’m going to make some cous cous with vegetables, chicken and some N African spices. I’ll calorie count it and freeze some.

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Hi Pentimento.
    Thanks for your advice.
I will continue because i had enough,i can’t fit on any of my clothes any more,I am wearing the same clothes over and over and feel soooooo bad.
I want to lose weight for summer,at least 15 kg,so this is my last hope.
Didn’t know that i have to measure my neck as well?I will do that today.
How much weight have you lost since December?
Hope you have a good day,and thanks again for your reply.

Sony1 I kinda don’t count the first 3-4 weeks after I ‘started’ cause I was sucha faker….no one can trick me better then myself… but the scales told the truth, Ouch!

So the last previous 3-weeks I’ve lost a steady kilo each week. BUT I ONLY lost 1/2 inch off of my neck and nothing, nadda, zero from me waist …..soooooo the measuring tape told the truth the whole truth and nothing but da truth! I wasn’t exercising enough nor was I exercising correctly. So fixed that and we’ll see in 3-weeks if I’ve done the right things to lose inches/cm off of my waist as well as weight. My total weight loss so far is 3kg; only 16kg more to go, So “Giddy-up there Nelly!”…..

    Good luck Sony1

    sony,

you don’t have to measure anything.
I only measured my waist when I embarked on 5:2 as I was so upset to see the truth of the tape measure that I couldn’t bear to measure anywhere else.It makes no difference to weight loss, but a decrease in a measurement can give you a boost when the scales aren’t moving.

Weight comes off of everywhere and the first place fat settles is usually around the middle and it is the last place it leaves. I have had to have two links removed from my watch strap and my knee boots are now baggy. I have lost 16 inches from my waist but still have some fat left around the middle.

Don’t stress about measuring, it is hard enough trying to lose weight especially if you have a medical condition that affects it.
You’ve made a good start and there is no reason why you won’t succeed.

Here Here Amazon you are quite correct… and WOW I never realized the body change you made…Congratulations, wowowowow!… On the other hand I still measure, only neck and waist, it works for me as part of my variation of this program and I always eat me breakfast… good luck

    Thanks Amazon.
    Wow,16 inches? my god.
You make me feel so inspired. How long have you been on 5:2? if you don’t mind me asking you?
I wish you all the best, and if you have any advice that can help in any way, please share,it will help a lot of people and you might change someone’s life. 🙂

    Happy
You are right, no soup tonight. Luckily the salmon and veg was very filling anyway. I am planning on losing weight faster using the Long fast ( starter) then the Low Calorie blood sugar diet for 8 weeks. If it goes well and I feel good I will carry on until goal. As you know the latest research says ‘fast’ weight loss is good, not bad. I will increase exercise especially Hiit and follow the high nutrition diet. Hopefully this will make my goal realistic. 20 weeks at 2.5 lbs per week equals success, I hope. I have had two years preparation for this, I have given up sugar, complex carbs and alcohol.
Sony 1 and Penti, most of us have taken measurements and keep records of our achievements. If you are having a tough time it is good to reflect on your past successes. I have dropped from size 24 to 16 clothing size. It’s great to be able to buy clothes that are not tents. MM does suggest you take a range of measurements. Obviously the most important number is your BMI. Hopefully we will all be within normal ranges when we meet our goals. Good Luck

Is Former Big Girl’s xenical one of the diet pills we can sue? 😜

    Ha ha!

Another empty promise of a magic bullet 😤

Actually it appears that xenical/ orlistat does work
    http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Obesity/Pages/Treatment.aspx

“Orlistat works by preventing around a third of the fat from the food you eat from being digested. This undigested fat is not absorbed into your body and is passed out with your faeces (stools).

This will help you avoid gaining weight, but will not necessarily cause you to lose weight. Therefore, it’s still important to stick to your recommended diet and exercise plan.”

Hmmm, so definitely not a magic bullet!

And you would have to be particularly stupid I think to buy any diet pill from a random website.

And of course it only works while you take the pills. If you haven’t changed the way you eat or learnt to eat less when you stop taking the pills you gain the weight back.

Far better, and cheaper, and safer, to intermittent fast and learn to eat healthily and within TDEE.

But hey Former Big Girl, good luck with keeping the weight off and keeping the toilet clean.

Seems we cannot shake the poo theme this weekend! Here comes the emoji…💩💩💩💩

I think orlistat has some pretty nasty side effects. We know what the magic bullet is…IF!

    Jo,

    Good luck for starting tomorrow!

It’s going to take determination and self-control, but the rewards will be worth it. Just visualize who you want to be… svelte Jo, healthy Jo… and we’ll see her in a few months 🙂

Ooh Ply, loving your work, but they don’t look greasy enough!

Spot on Happy. Visualise the future, Jo, but don’t set random unachievable goals. They lead to disappointment.

I made a (yes, hand drawn) graph after I started losing weight and extended the line until it reached my goal healthy weight. This gave me the realistic goal date….one year to lose 30 kg.

As part of my strict 5:2 approach, I then gave up all white carbs until I reached goal. No flour based products (cakes, bread, pasta), no added sugar, no rice and DEFINITELY no potatoes! I found delicious, fabulous, varied alternatives. I increased the variety of veg we ate massively and embraced seafood. It meant, by the end of the year, I had a great bank of new healthy, low carb recipes and a new way of eating. Wine, in moderation, has always been on the menu, 5 days a week.
There is no place for old eating for any of us in a new healthy life.

    In brief:
    Set achievable goals
Be strict about portion sizes and types of food
Enjoy life and good healthy food
All the best for your summer goal. P 😊

PVE, you’re my hero! It is so hard to believe that you were ever that heavy. You have the look of a “naturally” thin person who has always been tiny!

Thanks Ply…I was. Used to be able to eat anything when I was young..but I guess I naturally limited it with stomach aches when I overindulged. 😯
The fourties saw all that change. Thank goodness for 5:2 and self control.
Btw Ply…why don’t you see yourself as a maintainer? You are a lovely weight. 😊 P

If anyone tries to push diet pills on this thread it is not endorsed by Michael Mosely. He encourages healthy natural foods preferably not processed.

    Hi Everyone,
Yes, lets all visualize and take one day at a time. I find it very helpful to put a chart up. Fasting is amazing. Good food is good for the soul.
I am thankful to be able to read your posts. Just to let you know… you are important in my life. I want to contribute to the forum but sometimes my mind is just in awe. I am just a little up from my maintenance goal. I made a promise to a friend that I would not over eat on the weekend. I made it through. I am over my calories but I did not binge like I did the last three weekends. Hoping this becomes a habit. No diet pills, diet soda, sugar free anything for me. I do chew sugar free gum when I cave, I am addicted to artificial sweetener. It is good to share something.
    Take care,

GOOOOOOOD Morning another successful FD behind me, next 2-days are home gardening days as rain comes on Wednesday so I just might do B2B FDs, I have more control over the food intake when I’m home. So why not? Buuuuuuut it’s just a wee bit hard to cook for mesweetheart as now that he’s started long distance endurance walking on the weekends he’s suddenly losing too much weight and I need to fatten him up a bit..Well I sure know how to cook to achieve that easy enough. I love my own cooking and mealtime for us is our personal social talk-time, so leaving the room so as to not to watch him fork up delicious mushroom gravy over his mashed potatoes is not very nice for him. I feel like a Boxer watching his dish get filled with food….forcing myself to swallow as not to visibly drool; just not a good look for a woman of a certain age

Jaysus Mother of GOD! sometimes this process is just not easy. But it is SO worth the discipline and wee challenges. Yesterday, when I walked in the room mesweetheart said that I really looked good and pulled out the hip fabric of my trousers which were uncommonly loose then gave be a big kiss and said he’s loving the changes both in my body and my happiness…. I was SO pleased with myself!! Yes, it really IS about the joy of this journey in addition to the success of the ultimate outcome. But what I’m seeing for myself is a genuine pleasure in the daily work, using gardening as an allegory: taking the wild unkempt land (my current body), planning the garden, digging and removing stones ‘n weeds (removing bad foods, laziness) then planning and planting (setting goals) but long before harvesting comes, months of weeding and watering (mindful eating, FD, 10k steps daily or equivalent regularly). And I absolutely enjoy ALL the work it takes to create lovely flower and vegetable gardens. And I’m beginning to absolutely love the work it takes to revitalize and rebuild a healthy and fit body…Why not, eh? Stay strong folks and if you fail just try again.

    Morning/evening all,

Another Monday another FD. Chicken chilli today.

I’ve got lots of apps on my laptop that I didn’t have previously and while it is great to have games such as Sudoku, staying up until midnight playing them is bad for me as I overslept this morning 😆
At least I slept through a couple of hours of my FD 😉

Have a good one everybody 😜

I found this light hearted article on the BBC website, it is entitled

“Could vanilla yoghurt be the secret to happiness”

which I found amusing as I added some vanilla and a pinch of stevia to my home made yoghurt yesterday and it certainly made me happy….

Men and women have long searched for the fountain of youth, the meaning of life, and the secret of happiness. Well, youth still passes, life still puzzles but the secret of happiness has, it seems, at last been found. It is vanilla yogurt, writes Adam Gopnik.

This is not a facetious conclusion, or at least was not intended to be when it was offered not long ago by a team of Austrian, Finnish and Dutch scientists who have been filling their dark winter days studying the emotional responses of subjects when they eat different kinds of yogurt.

You may think that people don’t actually have emotional responses when they eat yogurt – that eating yogurt is a way of avoiding any emotional response. It is arguably the least feeling of all the breakfast foods – very far from the emotional excitements and hedonic highs of toast, bacon, or marmalade. I once went to a wedding where the bride and groom actually exchanged marmalades during the ceremony (yes, it was in California, but they did).

No-one does that with yogurt. As it happens, I like Greek yogurt for breakfast – but it is a way of seeming to be engaged in something while my spouse talks about her dreams, her symptoms, and her plans. Then the little dog gets to lick what’s left in the plastic cup. It is a ritual, but it is hardly romantic.

Nonetheless, the tri-national team persisted. They found that while fruit flavourings in yogurt made no difference to anyone’s happiness, there was, and I quote, a highly marked hedonic response to vanilla. Eating vanilla yogurt made people happy.

I should add that they used an odd technique to measure the happiness of their subjects. Asking people how they feel when they eat something is, apparently, too easy. It is a principle of psychology that people try to please psychologists by saying what they think the psychologists want to hear.

So, instead, the psychologists showed their subjects seemingly unrelated photographs of seemingly unrelated people and asked how happy the subjects thought those people were. Apparently, it is also a principle in psychology that we project onto others – or photographs of others, anyway – what we feel ourselves.

Hmmmm Amazon….when I was a young dating single woman I used to wear a combination of Vanilla and Sandalwood as perfume…and in validation of your article it DID attract a few nibbles generating “a highly marked hedonic response”….those were the days…….

Oh Amazon that is gold! I believe the research though, as I love anything vanilla! Husband thinks its boring (in icecream, yoghurt etc), but he obviously does not appreciate it! Lately my ‘ breakfast’ on non fast days often consists of greek yoghurt, flavoured with a bit of vanilla and cinnamon, with fresh berries and a sprinkle of my home made meusli on top. At about 2pm. The opposite of the pre 5:2 breakfast, which would be 500 cals worth of said meusli, with fruit, plus a dollop of yoghurt on top…. literally reversed. But it has to be vanilla yoghurt!

And Penti, now that I am an ‘old’ girl, I get given Vanilla & Jasmine Wood scented candles as birthday gifts!
Still yummy though! (the vanilla perfume!)

    Good Morning Campers,
Thank you for your good wishes I am steely strong at the moment and plan on staying positive. Sticking with ‘the quicker the better weightloss, high goal’ approach. Scientific results show these dieters achieve better results and you all know how impatient I am, it’s why I started this thread, there is no cure for my nature except success. Off to a great start with another pound down before my long fast so very happy. I feel excited and happy. My partner is now in competition because he realised he is close to weighing more than me for the first time ever. He will of course lose very rapidly because his normal diet includes no healthy options, high fat, high sugar. I am glad he is on board but doubt he will change his choices, just reduce them. He has great health though, genetic mutant, the whole family live long and eat junk. But then my mother lived until 90 so I can’t complain, I am more like her than my Dad who died at 57 of a heart attack.
Must get going bowls today. Have a great fasting day everyone, keep moving.
Amazon- I love vanilla yogurt and overslept too because I was playing cards on an application.
Penti- love the garden theme incentive, I am at the deep dig stage, hard work.
Sarah- well done on the weekend, they can be a trial.
Ply- how is it -one week on BSD?

OMG playing on RTE1 ‘LATE DATE’ music show presented by Lillian Smith is “You’ll Never Walk Alone” sung by Christine Johnson from the original musical “Carousel”. My dedication to all you 5:2/4:3 folks!

    Penti,
I simply can’t get through the day without music, especially 70’s but if not some of the modern stuff(absolutely no rap). Got slaughtered at bowls this morning which is a bit of a downer, I was not at my best.
It’s 4.30 pm and instead of preparing a meal I am sitting down for a cup of Honey and Camomile tea, yummy. One perk of fasting, no cooking – hooray! Unlike most of you, it’s a chore for me. I’d rather be doing anything else, even housework. But I have learnt to make a mean soup( yesterday’s has 26 ingredients and I have named it Gutflora Soup, it may not taste that good, won’t find out for a while). Luckily not too much skill required in microwaving or frying salmon, making salads and veg cooking. Dreading the BPD cooking but I know it’s essential for my long term health to learn to enjoy cooking.
A friend bought me one of those one person teapots that sits over the cup, it’s the devil to pour out and wobbles alarmingly when balanced, may need to ditch it before I scold myself.
Not a great day for walking, wet and dull but it has to be done, dogs keen to get going and I need to burn some more calories. Feel good at the moment but dreading bed time. Hope I get some sleep, drinking will be necessary much later than usual as no food. Still every trip to the loo burns a few more calories. I may be getting an early night, away from temptation. Chat tomorrow after weighing in. Good luck everyone!

    JoJo58

Thanks for your advice.Tomorrow is the start of my third week Of 4:3 and I will see how it goes because it looks like I lose something and the days when I start to eat I just put it back on 🙁

    HappyNow.

Xenical in my opinion it does not make you lose any weight.Last summer i took them for 2 weeks (i was on holiday all inclusive) and i was eating everything i wanted and i didn’t put any weight on.
When i came back from holiday i gained 3kg in 2 weeks because i stopped taking them.
I had a lot of burning every time i went toilet and this lasted for 3 weeks after i stopped taking the tablets.and believe me,it was horrible,i wish i never took them because i still gained weight anyway.
In my opinion ,they are good to have in hand when you overeat once in a while, for example once or twice per week you can take a tablet straight after food so in that way it does stop the fat getting stored on your body, but i don’t think they are safe to take everyday.

Forget the tablets, learn to use self control. No more binges. I am a yoyo dieter so I understand how hard it is to control this food addiction. Fasting helps you to learn that you can beat it, you can control your diet and change your lifestyle.
I have just gone 24 hours without food and I feel fine. I could not have done this 2 years ago. It takes time and you will learn. I am away at a hotel this weekend but I will not be undoing my work. No full English, no puddings, no drinking. Healthy main course choice only.
    Good Luck

    Thanks sony1,

I don’t have an opinion on xenical,
I was just passing on what the NHS say about it. Your experience seems to tally, in that it helps maintain, but you’ll only lose weight if you’re cutting calories anyway.

I’m not into putting synthetic chemicals into my body if I can avoid it. You’ve reinforced that! It sounds thoroughly unpleasant and I think (?! I know!) I’d rather work on not overeating and do an extra fast day!

    Good Morning All,
I agree with you Happy, pills are not the way to go, restraint is as there are no nasty side effects.

I am on day 2 of a three day water/tea fast. I feel great and not particularly hungry. What is most important is I now know I can do 5:2 on this type of fast in future. RT has been doing this successfully and I think it will be the way to go for me. I also have the added incentive of losing 2 lb after one day. Very happy. I slept in between trips to the loo although I dreamt of finding food all over the house and avoiding the temptation of whoofing it down. Good news that even my sub conscious is strong at the moment.

I viewed a utube documentary of long term fasting, one month or 40 days. People are still suffering the effects 5 months later with hair falling out, total weight loss regained and skin issues. They had severe energy issues and inflamation in the joints. The only plus side appears to be solving allergy issues. They recommend not exceeding three days and I think that will be ample for me.

Time to go to bowls, have a great day everyone

    Morning/evening all,

It’s a beautiful morning here, cold and sunny ☀
Building work starts next week in my bedroom, new plaster on all walls and ceiling, new floor, some carpentry and decorating so I’m in a whirl of decluttering as everything has to fit in the living room while the work is being done. I have yet another bag of clothes for recycling, some of which I’ve been clinging onto for sentimental reasons, but it is much better for someone else to be wearing them than be hanging in my wardrobe.

Another FD and I’m off to the gym via the clothes recycling centre before coming home for more clearing and if I’m really lucky a trip to the rubish dump!

Have a good one everybody 😜

Have fun with the renovations, Amazon! I love decorating, and decluttering is so satisfying!

Jojo, love that you are even dreaming about resisting food! Make today another great one! Sleep is my fast day strategy. When I am feeling unable to resist snacking at night, I just go to bed. I am trying to get into the habit of drinking tea, a cup of green during the day when I feel hungry, and a cup of sleepy time (camomile and mint) at night.

    Gut Flora Soup…love it!

PVE, thank you, and I do consider myself a maintainer for the most part, except I allowed myself to go past my upper limit, so I am currently one of RT’s beautiful losers again!

Sony, hope you find your groove on the fasting. The weight and inches will come off if you follow the plan. The non-fast days take some time to get used to. Have you tried limiting your eating window? It’s a great tool.

Pentimento, your enthusiasm is infectious! I am glad you joined our merry band.

So BSD is overall very good. Some hunger, but that is to be expected, and no different from fast days. I have been bothered by stomach aches a couple of times, which is very unusual for me. Nothing on the menu that is not a reasonably common ingredient for me, maybe more beans and lentils than usual, but I have always eaten tons of fiber. I will have to pay closer attention to the timing of foods and aches.
Some of the recipes are better than others. Tops include Stuffed Aubergine with Lamb, Sardine Dip, Poached Egg and Salmon Stack on Portobello Mushrooms, Steak with Peppercorn Sauce, Pepper with Jewelled Feta, Beet Falafel, and Minted Pea Hummus.
Hubby is being very patient with the very healthy meals. 😬
My goal of following the plan to a T has been met for Week 1, so hooray for me!

    Have a great day, everyone!

That’s great, Ply. I’m keeping up with your experiences on the BSD, still considering it but 5:2 is easier to manage when busy. However, it’s blood sugar I’m concerned about as well as weight, so I’ve been using low carb, higher fat eating plans alongside 5:2. An interesting book and website mentioned lots on the BSD site but not here much is Jenny Ruhl’s “Diet 101: the truth about Low Carb Diets”. It’s really interesting, as is her one on diabetes. Both stem from an info site and chat room set up by her over ten years ago to bring together people’s own experiences of diet, diabetes etc and also to reference significant research across the different fields.
On Xenical: a few years ago I tried it. I lost very little weight and seemed to get more hungry. Many books later (Gary Taubes, Dr Michael Eades and Dr Mosley for starters) I now know how bad it is to cut back so much on absorbed fats, which is what Xenical does. Fortunately I disliked the effects so I didn’t use it for long, only about 2 months when I lost 5 lbs.

    Hmmmmmmmmm
Me thinks that to lose weight, one burns more calories than one consumes and then burns more calories to remove the extra fat that one has accumulated while eating healthy and exercising correctly for your own body.

Maybe it’s not easy but it’s simple, eh? More a matter of basic math and intention + will power vs Pills, schmills! What a buncha kakamamie!

I think we forget that we spent a good few years gathering this unnecessary fat and so it just may take some period time to (healthily) get rid of the stuff, yes? Just my opinion.

    Amazon,
Well done you on your decluttering, it’s so difficult yet very theraputic in the long run.
Ply- how much did you lose this week or is it a secret? Beans give me pain too but lentils are usually fine. My partners restricted diet last night was one pork pie instead of two.

I am still not sure all that cooking is for me but I will give it a go, at least
I can replace the meat options with my ‘gut flora soup’ the freezer is full to bursting. Next goal to halve my soup bowl quantity, I always have two portions at a time. I started doing this when I stopped having bread with it.

I am still fasting on water/tea and feel fine. Had a great bowls game today. Lost by one point but it was cat and mouse throughout. Lots of fun. My partner was a really good strategist and had a deadly aim.

Apricot- A diet book I haven’t heard of? Incredible!

It has turned into a beautiful day with lots of sunshine but only 9°C.
I had a good morning at the gym and am now doing a few things at home before settling down to watch tennis.
I bought some beautiful cherries that were on special and have just eaten 5 to see me through until dinner along with lots of coffee and water. I realised when I was working out that I’ve managed to get myself a bit dehydrated so I’m drinking even more than usual in order to rectify the situation.

After Happy mentioning Robin McKenzie either on here or on Tessy’s thread I’ve decided to try a different approach with my back as it is no longer improving despite doing the exercises my physio gave me.

I bought his book and an inflatable back roll which I’ve been using for a few days and have started doing the stretches he recommends, a couple of which are similar to what I’ve been doing. I am also concentrating on my posture at all times as I realised that I slouch.
I am hoping that this new approach finally rids me of the residual pain and stiffness I’ve been suffering from since last summer.
I noticed today that when I stood up from the rowing maching I had hardly any stiffness in my back and I’m unsure as yet if that is coincindence or a small improvement. Fingers crossed…..

    Time for some tennis 🙂

Just done some measuring – wanted to show off some stats to my pals!
I’ve lost 6 1/2 inches off my waist since this time last year and since July when I started measuring in more places I’ve lost 6″ off my bust; 4″ off both my waist and hips and 2 1/2″ off my neck!!
Just shows how effective this 5:2 diet is!
I was also xtremely sedentary – couldn’t be bothered to get out mainly – I’m now active! I really like walking and enjoy getting opportunities!
I really love getting positive comments from people – looking forward to getting another dose of it today!!

Congratulations Good on you pen nib! You are my inspiration!

I walked the 2 miles to my meeting because of the sunshine and blue sky – 3.5 deg C!!! ; got the lovely comments and 7000 steps so far to boot!
A lift back with some junk was v acceptable with no regrets!
Getting all the positive vibes I can about my weight loss – it really works!!

Thanks pentimento! Good to know my comments are well received!

Diet 101 isn’t really a diet book, it just tells how people’s systems work and how you can make it work for you. It shows why different people have different diet experiences eg why some can lose weight by swopping chips for salad while for others that might not do much. It also shows how differently particular foods affect people even though the foods may have the same calories. Also so many different things that lead up to pre diabetes so that one size doesn’t fit all in a dietary way. You can read part of it using Amazon Look Inside.

Awesome job, Pen Nib! Success is the best incentive!

Jojo, not a secret, just trying to “walk the walk” and make my goal following the plan, with weight loss as a “happy side effect”! (But down 2kg)

    Apricot,
Sounds good I will check it out. I have a very sluggish system and it would be good to know how I can change that. I have always been active ( nursery teacher, rarely sat down) and taken part in sport ( badminton, yoga, swimming and gym)irrespective of my size so the benefits of taking up exercise don’t really apply to me. It’s all about the diet change and restriction for me. I have taken up all sorts of new exercises since starting the fasting thread which included skipping, jumping on a trampet, lifting kettlebells, bouncing on a big exercise ball(whilst ironing) basically I will try anything.

Still fasting water/tea, now day 2 and planning to stop tomorrow for dinner. I imagine that meal will be most welcome. I am keeping very busy and staying out of the kitchen. Off for my Ukelele beginners class tonight, definitely not a natural talent but I am determined to learn a tune in preparation for Folk Week.

    Ply,
Fantastic result you must be thrilled.
Glad you are leading the way.
I think Bay is starting in March like me but I may be wrong.
This fast has helped me prepare for next week.

Penti and Pen nib- well done to you both.
Amazon- I hope the new exercise help your back pain. I am considering going back for acupuncture as I was really impressed with the results last year. Finally have a consultation with a surgeon next Friday so I will find out what is recommended re gall bladder surgery.

Hi Jojo how fab is that you go girl I kicked off on Monday and going strong I walk morning and afternoon it did get to 40deg here yesterday and in the evening I did develop a cracking headache 2 tablets early to bed and no problems this morning all good. Now this morning light steady beautiful rain and I think the leaves are turning brown and beginning to fall its going to be a great day for the human race. Get it around it people
    Happy Hump day
    Peace RT

    RT,
I guess with that heat you may be dehydrating which caused the headache. I could use even half of that heat right now, it’s sunny but cold here in the UK.

I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. You inspired me with your ‘water/tea’ only fasting. I really didn’t think I could do it but here I am at the end of Day 2 having succeeded. One more day to go.
What do you break your fast with? I was planning on soup rather than something solid. I might add some zero noodles.

The beginners Ukelele class was brilliant and very challenging. Obviously I mostly just strummed along using three chords but I sang all the songs, mostly 70’s stuff. Great mix of people. It was only £1.00 for the class which lasted from 7-10 pm, now that is value for money. Kept my mind off eating.

Amazon- have you thought of joining the University of the Third Age (U3A) they have lots of interest groups.
