Well done Jojo on breaking the 14st barrier!! Result! 😀
I turn 24 on Friday. Working but I don’t mind because I’ll be heading through to Glasgow straight after work to stay over before our flight on Saturday morning! Getting excited now! And feeling more ready for the beach than I have in a long time 😀
If I can lose another 1.5lbs this week that’ll be 10 pounds down in 10 weeks. Had a really good fast yday – came in under 500cal I think and did my ab workout and 45min high intensity Zumba on the Wii. It was a really good Monday for me because usually I’m starving!
Fasting today, good luck everyone! xx
Hello, all!
Jojo and SAMM, I think I will join you for ADF, at least for the next 3 weeks until my reunion party. I started on Sunday, even though it was technically still June. Had a good fast day today. Fiber One breakfast at 11, and have some spiralized zucchini Italian salad in the fridge ready for dinner. Jojo, you have to check out this site for spiralized recipes:
http://www.inspiralized.com
Congratulations on getting to the 14s, Jojo!
Have a great vacation, Amzta, and happy birthday! I will be celebrating with my son tomorrow. He turns 28.
I am headed to Pilates in a few minutes. I am very excited to be able to finally start!
Sounds like everyone is going along just fine, keep up the good work!
JoJo: did do kettlebell swings this weekend and have the sore thighs to prove it. It definatley challenged some muscles that were missing in action up till now. Anxiously awaiting my CD to provider a structured 15-20 min routine for me instead of my bumbling about with a little of this and a little of that.
I started last Friday .
I tried to wait to eat until lunch. Was a particularly heavy day at work. I had to ask for help, my sugar number was fine, but I fatigued on the feed day, because of the light breakfast. Feed day became soda and pop tarts and vending meats. Actually went to grocery and bought sandwich foods. Work has to be the priority until Saturday .
Adjusting my ADF to be Tuesday and Thursday . Three meals 200 cal each. Geared for lifting water 24 packs on to skids. Turning to whey protein shake on Tuesday to see if it will help keep me going, will have beans and pineapple , watermelon in work fridge if I get fatigued again .
My pedometer was 6000 steps today, but I stacked 12,952 pieces mostly water cartons. I felt like I was going to die. Boss grabbed on the shoulder and said. See you tonight. Ugggggghhh! Can’t sleep!
Still I kept track of calories and was able to eat beans and salmon salad.
Tooooo much caffeine
Was another day where I forgot belt and walked around holding my pants up. Made a shrink wrap belt.
Planned to skip rope but never got off the couch.
Perhaps a bit dehydrated as it is 90 degrees today
Forgot to weigh in.
5’9 227
116/79. 79bpm
172,204,145 sugars
SAMM:
Sounds like it is a challenge to keep yourself hydrated.
Is there any way you could do your fast on the days you don’t work?
I would work on consuming more protein on your fast days and try to have healthy food on the other days, but it sounds like you did the best you could.
By the way, ADF means alternate day fasting and usually refers to all the time. One day fasting and the next day not fasting and repeat until the weight is lost.
You are following the 5:2 fast plan. Your two days of fasting were separately by only one day of non fasting.
Hot here too, Jojo. Extra hydration is definitely in order for all, but not in the form of ice cream milkshakes!
I am committing to Pilates for the summer. It is offered four times a week at my gym, and I can do at least 2 of them every week. I definitely need some toning, and I look forward to seeing improvement in my ability to perform the poses and moves.
I finally convinced my husband to try IF with me! He will do 2 fast days. Hi is already quite used to going long periods without eating, but it will be a matter of eating healthier when he does. The summer makes it easier, since I am home and I do all the cooking. He is basically slim, thin limbs, no hips or bum, but gains around the belly in that classic apple shape way. I told him he could not turn into one of those skinny men with the belly hanging over his belt! No more donuts and cinnamon rolls for breakfast for him, which will be the hardest thing for him to give up. He has made progress already, switching to whole wheat raisin toast. Still carbs, but much less sugar and white flour. Drinking lots of water will also be a challenge, but we will work up to it.
I have not been wearing my fitbit lately, and I know I have not taken many steps. Most of my time was spent standing at functions or sitting in a car, but we are back to “normal” this week.
SAMM, please take care of yourself!!
Xox all, off to Pilates!
I LOVE Pilates. Been doing it regularly for about 3 years and even thought about becoming an instructor!
I slightly disagree with Jojo – it does not build muscle but strengthens your core and lengthens your whole body. I always feel energised afterwards!
Ply – the first few classes will be hard but once you get the moves down, you will be addicted, I bet! It makes you aware of your posture, even when you’re not in class. It also helps you to engage your core, no matter what exercise you are doing. Great for the pelvic floor muscles too!
Had 2 good fast days so far this week. One more tomorrow then 2 weeks off for my holiday! Hopefully I won’t do too much damage :S
Sam- you need a new job mate! Life is too short to work yourself to the bone. If you devote all your mental and physical energy to work, you’ll have none left to enjoy your life! I used to work very demanding hours in hospitality and ended up having a nervous breakdown and anxiety attacks – largely due to exhaustion. It made me totally re-evaluate my work/life balance and I now work a 9 to 5 and pack my weekends full 🙂
xx

Thank you for taking the time help. Support is very encouraging hear.
I took this job , because I wanted to increase my N.E.A.T. Basically a job where I get paid to work out all day. I have been having a grand ole sedentary lifestyle. Got 100+ lbs obese. After an accident had me in bed from a foot and ankle injury. I had a lot of time to naval gaze. My avoidance of exercise my main problem , and poor diet another.
By chance revoreded Eat, Fast, Live Longer. Also the truth about exercise.
The doable message was what got me to try 5:2, I went on to 4:3.
I had slow but steady success. I quit fasting after a schedule change and financial issues made family dinner time an excuse to fall back to cheap foods, rather than health, fat loss, or anti cancer foods.
At my 1 year mark of starting 5:2. I got back on the scale. I had lost 27lbs and kept off from my start date.
I realized I had found a doable approach to my weight control. Well one that works over time , and allows for my love of food. However the more I practiced it the more I was able to tweak my menus to move from macro nutrition to micro nutrition. Focusing on things to help me put new tastes into my intake. Trying to look at my body as multiple systems that need attention. Immune system, lymph system, blood, muscle, bones, organs, skin, brain and nervous . What ever got my me rolling , I was definately in motion, no longer in bed with injury.
My first year was IF , for sedentary .
I made an ambitious goal, not to only lose 100lbs , but to lose all fat, and then reset my weight as healthy as possible. To be oriented for a longevity lifestyle of diet and exercise on the cellular level, but have a doable approach so as to enjoy it. Yes enjoy my diet and exercise.
The food isn’t my issue. It’s my strength , I’m in a lot of pain. Not whine about it . I decided to work through it. My choice of exercise is skipping rope. Because it hurts less than most other exercise other than swimming. It’s less stressful than walking after the muscles needed for jumping are strengthened. Its less I pactbon knees because of landing on both feet whereas walking or running lands all weight on one foot at time. My goal is to keep jumping al ost everyday until I can jump for ten minutes with out getting winded. I started in January now July I can jump for seven minutes before switching to jumping jacks.
I took the job, because I was detain it would help me burn fat, but I’m finding I like the work , because it’s making me much stronger. At 46 I was sedentary, obese, and easily winded. Now I can lift and walk in competition with teenagers fresh out high school on those jobs. However. It’s stressful , and I hate it. I’m using it though to get too 200 lbs. That will be 74 loss at that point. I figure I’ll go 100% ADF CRAN H.I.I.T.
But also not going to give up on the seven compound lifts that body builders use.
I give myself till the age of 50 to get to goal that will be September of 2018. My goal isn’t only weight , or muscle strength, it’s all of it. I still don’t find anything else that s as doable as 4:3 long term.
To have the weekends to eat socially and week day meals to care for myself. Where I see myself @50
At the gym 3 days a week . At home with quality time 2 days a week. And sailing my boat on the weekends. When I told god what I have planned I believe he laughed at me! As things have occurred that turn my world every which way, but i keep hope, and not let excuses bbecome reason to go back to sedentary habits and unbalanced eating.
So my approach is simple. Lower my risks of accidental, and preventable death. To also adjust my diet to help accustom myself to lower my risk of age related diseases, and to exercise and observe calorie restriction. And pray.
Gee whiz if I tried to do all that in one day! Basically. It’s a journey and there are many paths. Rightbnow I’m on the endurance and strength training, because I was recently diagnosed with diabetes. So the fasting is going to be only 5 of ten days a month. Basically a fat attack week I call it. Where I maintain for 3 weeks and then try to lose 3lbs in 10 days. The job is giving me opportunity to reach those plans in a doable way. I believe I was dehydrated and sleep deprived. And unprepared for food intake if my plan failed.
That’s me!
Best wishes on what works for you.
Keep on keeping on!
JoJo, are the baked squash noodles what we call “spaghetti squash” in the States? I have tried them as a substitute for spaghetti an was not thrilled with them that way. Too sweet to go with marinara sauce.
I think they would be lovely with something like a curry or a pork goulash over them where the warm spices complimented the squash. Or something with sage browned in a bit of butter with nutmeg. Could even be mostly veg (red bell pepper, onions, and some halved mushrooms) with “warm spices” tossed with the squash strands. If you find something you like, please share. I have forgotten about that as an option. Tend to see more spaghetti squash around here in the fall. You have gotten my gears working. Must put that on my “to do” list to try.
PS Kettle CD still has not arrived. Anxiously awaiting.
But the day after tomorrow is our Independence Day ….must find something diet friendly to celebrate. I am beyond fighting through crowds to see fireworks displays. But if you don’t celebrate the holidays the year just blurs into one big homogenous string of days. The 4th of July at least marks the mid-point of summer and a reminder to treasure the longer days. Fall will be here before we know it and I will be driving home from work to a setting sun again. I guess in my heart its the summer solstice that is the real holiday.
Have a lovely weekend all.
Hello everyone,
Sorry I’ve not replied for a while, I’ve been pretty sick for a few days. I think I had food poisoning from something. It was not very pleasant. But I feel a lot better today. Although I haven’t really been fasting I haven’t been eating much, just whatever my stomach could take, which is bananas and toast. I think today I will start to eat some more foods because I am feeling a lot better. I think it will be a couple more days until my insides are back to normal.
I’m trying to keep up with everyone’s posts!
I love it JoJo ,
I used to deliver papers from 10-16 years of age.
I would only caution about animals sometimes can become aggressive. Especially ones that bite.
carry the mace or something like it, hope you never have to use it. Better to have and not need kind of thing. I really enjoyed the social aspect of delivery. My route was a long one so I used a bike, but I kept it half way chained to a utility pole. My bag was too full to ride at first but I the route as house were further apart, the bike helped keep me timely. Especially in the winter when everything is ice covered, I had a bmx bike, the kind with wide nobi tires that was low to the ground.
I think it’s great.

Posture for marching.
Tried my ole goto at work today.
1 can of mixed vegetables .
1/2 jar of no sugar added spaghetti sauce.
Italian seasoning.
Cost $1 calories 150.
This Is filling , i may add whey protien
But I got through the heavy lifting , they told me I needed to meet picking goals without help or I’ll be reassigned. If I can’t do it then I’ll loose having the choice of assignment. I’m eyeing the management position , as I’ve been 100% in most departments . Demonstrating that I can do all jobs from picking , merging, retrieval , load out, and fork lift work.
That’s all good, but I’m there to work off my fat. So having choice of assignment will help with picking which job helps with my diet.
I surmised if I can work on no protein for 300 calories in 10 hr shift and make goal. I’ve got it.
I did feel a little weak, but kept hydrated , they keep cold water at fountains every 50 feet . So no need to plan special drinking plan. Cold water is good enough.
The type of mixed vegetable was no salt added. I’m thinking if I ate the salt added I wouldn’t feel as weak. , but it’s a water retention issue, and don’t want to retain water. Not for scale , but my understanding is as long as I have soluble fiber in digestion , it helps with fat asorbtion from the body into the digestive track. So the salt is out. Sugar intake is low. Observing the low protein to slow igf1 rather than fuel.
Planing to eat some citrus Fish and mango water to Finnish off 600 for the day. Yum! I find the fasting days to be very simple to be fish.
Will try to season the mixed vegetable into a chili flavor tomorrow as I’m going to try to work in a B2B fasting on thurs and Friday . To leave the weekends free for doing the body building.
This is where I hope to see success . Where the week is spent keeping my glycogen stores low, and the weekends to cut. I expect to see a dramatic fat loss and muscle gain in the next six months . If it starts working I’d eat dirty socks! I want to be back to my weight at 18 years of age! But actually I’m seeing it’s not neccesary to sacrifice flavor.
After being off fasting for 40 days I’ve jumped right back into being able to have impulse control. To pass foods offered to me and walk away. I’m glad , and find now this is the third time I’ve went to fasting type diet.
First time learning to fast was difficult.
Second time fasting regularly successful first week
Third time successful , except had to adjust to heavy lifting and sugar levels, but successful after that.
This is a dream come true to not only understand how to control my fat loss but to apply what I understNd in many different styles, from sedentary to hyper active.
I’m happier now for a very selfish reason. I have been working on my six pack. I know its there, I just have to be patient as the fat around my belly decreases .
My question!
Claiming what my waist size is.
If I can put on jeans , pull them up to my waist to be fully on, buttoned with fly zipped?
I can claim that right?
Is so?
Then I’m a size 32!
Ok enough of that lol.
What I’m working on now and again is marching.
It’s a known fact that posture is a big factor in how clothes fit and how easily you can wear out while walking. Marching for soldiers observes this and allows troops to go further and have more energy for fighting once they get there. I do this while walking at work. I even tossed out the tennis shoes for combat, jump boots. I found that that the ankle support help me deal with the injured ankle. I walk with my core abdominal muscles flexed. I watched the YouTube videos and also use the stability ball to strengthen my muscles that join my core to my arms and legs. If I can point to anything it would be the stability ball made me strong enough to walk long distances. And the marching to walk at a competitive level. I feels great to be keeping up with the track girl on the job and then sprint after the 8 hour mark. I just blow her ass out the door and across the street! Unbelievable but is my goal. I think of it this way. Walk well , and when I get to the over time hours , it’s combat time ! I go all out, I eat carbs then pour . The jump boots help me jump and climb. Able to cherry pick from fork lift , climb and jump in ways that intimidate the kids. It’s just a psych out tactic. But it’s just a fake persona, an image .
A relief that I got through the lifting today. As far as fat loss . I think of it this way . I build pallets of water bottles. And then unstack them . That has to be exercise. Exercise on a fast day.
I may be totally off base , but I’m trying to separate protein and carb intake windows. Not convinced it’s doing anything or benefit. Just seeing i can do it while working.
Will return to runner position Monday as long as I’m on the 100% board. If I make no errors and pick at rate at top 10% , have not been late or absent for work then I get to choose my position for the week . There are only 4 positions tht can be chosen . Picker, runner, fork lift, load out. I like the runner position , due to it’s amount of walking.plus it’s hard to make mistakes when the job is correcting mistakes. I find that it shine light on the common mistakes that everyone else is making .
I recently bought a vegettii .
May be similar to a spiralizer.
I found that when I gave up the carbs from eating spaghetti once a week . I still wanted it.
And it kept my ffod bill in check .
Enter vegetti
I tried several types of foods.
I switched back to a apple corer most commonly known as pampered chef . Apple peeler.
I put sweet potatoes on it and adjust to the size of spaghetti noodles.
Put on spinach and mushrooms as my meatless spaghetti .
As this is a high calorie meal it remains a feed day meal.
Basically it’s a salad, in the shapes and textures of spaghetti .
The noddles are sweet potato
The mushrooms are the meaty texture similar to meat
The tomato sauce is tomato sauce – no sugar added
The spinach is the garlic contrast.
Instead of large piece of bread I put on 6-10 croutons.
I have a lemon icee for desert
I found that squash noodles went well in chili and stews
To drink I have a soda My one soda for the week . On a feed day.
So what started as journey for veggetti turned into vegetable noodles. Big thick ones do micro wave them for 38 seconds seems to get the texture of pasta noodles.
Through on Parmesan cheese
Make enough to freeze for next week keeps me out of the kitchen.
Takes me about 20 minutes to fix enough for everyone for two meals.
Jojo, I used the butternut squash noodles I made in Mimi’s Ratatouille recipe. Makes a ton, and low cal. I keep forgetting about Quorn, maybe will add some to the ratatouille tomorrow for lunch. Dying to try a recipe with shredded Swiss chard, spiralized apple noodles, and tuna with a lemon Dijon vinaigrette. Sorry for the food talk on Fast day (me too) but I didn’t start it!
Jojo, I think the paper route is a great idea for both income and exercise! If it is early in the morning, it also leaves your whole day to do other things. Like SAMM, I had a paper route from age 10-16. My dad put us to work early!
I don’t think our diet is low carb. I average about 40%. It is very low in processed carbs, since almost all the carbs come from vegetables and fruit.
SAMM, your experiments are certainly interesting, and I look forward to hearing your conclusions. That level of detail is a little too much for me to take on!
Third day of 90 degree heat and humidity. Saps one’s energy but also one’s appetite. Having a bowl of miso soup right now to end my fast day. Looking forward to grilled lobsters with cognac butter tomorrow!
Not sure I want to state my opinion about the carb requirement now. As the compliment for extreme carb reduction may be unappeeling. And to be safe would require alot of monitoring.
I cant imagine a menu without carbs.
fish and nuts? Makes sense In the regions where there too l I ttle sunlight to grow carbs
So I have gained 1 1/2 lbs this week bringing me back up to 11st 5lb.
Very frustrating as I had 3 good fast days this week with no slips!
I’m off on holiday tomorrow so was hoping to start on a low weight because I will undoubtedly gain there.
Why is the body so temperamental?!? I’ll never know.
Anyway see you in 2 weeks amigos! Adios! xx
It’s okay amzta, I think I gained. Even though I have been Ill, the only thing I ate for two days was bread and bananas and salty snacks to settle my stomach and I haven’t exercised much either. I didn’t step on the scale, but I feel it.
And I’m the same with carbs, I eat mainly fruits and vegetables, although I don’t (usually) eat bread or cereal or potatoes.
SAMM and JoJo: I have been doing low carb now for 6 months (and had done 2 years ago to lose 30 lbs). Sounded impossible when I started but now after finding a good collection of go-to recipes find it quite manageable. I do allow treats (rice or bread or pasta or popcorn snakc) once a week….but none the other 20 meals a week. Amazing how you can truly change your eating habits if you set you mind to it. I absolutely don’t miss the carbs anymore at all. And I find I do not have energy dips. I do get an empty feeling after 4 hrs since my last meal but not the low blood sugar hunger that I used to have pre-low carb. I do save my carbs for any veg I want (save potatoes and only a few carrots here and there in soups and a few shreds for salads, etc). Fruit moslty limited to berries, occasisonal half an apple.
Point is, SAMM, it is very very doable. It has resulted in a drop in blood pressure for me, and the best blood work I have every had. And that is with no restrictions on fat …doing LCHF. The higher fat keeps me feeling much more sastisfied and full.
So, different strokes for different folks. We each need to find an eating plan we can live with long term. This is mine. The fasting is the icing on the cake for me.
I just posted a low cal soup recipe from Weight Watcher on the LOACA thread but thought I would share here for any that may not be using it already. Very flavorful and filling per all the good healthy veg in it. My appologies if everybody has it already. Delicious stuff, fast and easy.
WEIGHT WATCHERS ZERO POINTS GARDEN VEGETABLE SOUP RECIPE
Makes 9 cups
6 cups broth (made with canned or using bullion fine)
Cooking spray or tiny bit of oil
2 carrots, peeled and sliced
1 large onion, diced
4 teaspoons garlic, minced
1/2 cabbage, chopped
1/2 pound frozen green beans
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 large zucchini, diced
Bring the broth to a boil in the microwave. (This is a time-saving tip that can be skipped if there’s no hurry.)
Spray a Dutch oven with cooking spray and heat on MEDIUM HIGH. Add the carrots, onion and garlic and cook for about 5 minutes.
Add all the remaining ingredients EXCEPT the zucchini and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce the heat to MEDIUM and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the beans are tender.
Add the zucchini and cook until the zucchini are tender. Serve and enjoy!
was doing great until plates of food with everthing that july4th picnic could imagine. Literslly eas placed in my lap. Ok I ate till I nearly exploded. Slept for 30 minutes too. I was as bad as veruca Salt
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TRTkCHE1sS4
I hope the whole world sees it too. One day can be off the chain wild eating. Add some hiit and neat and fast the following day. I dont believe nutrition will be tommorrow ‘s issue. Will be on a coffee protein fast tommorrow. 600 calories
So, I’m losing my motivation a little this week. I have had a tough time this week, I have put weight on after having food poisoning for 2 days (which was terrible in itself) and only being able to eat bread and simple carbs. On top of that I haven’t been able to exercise that much because of that, and now I have an ankle problem. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s swollen and bruised. I am trying to fast today, I just had lunch and will stick to water most of the rest of the day. *sigh*
Good morning, all! SAMM, we know you can get right back up on the fasting horse! I am going to a family party today and fasting as well. I have never fasted on a Saturday before. Luckily the party is with the side of the family who are not good cooks, so maybe I won’t be too tempted! I baked a cake that is constructed with red, white, and blue layers so that when you cut a slice, it looks like the American flag! I almost never eat my own baking, so no worries there. Forgive yourself and move on.
Jojo, loved your description of your day yesterday. Isn’t it amazing what we now consider an indulgent day? I bet six months ago indulgence meant a lot more food and a lot less activity. You have truly changed your lifestyle, congratulations! I am so excited for you to be headed into retirement this way!
DeeLite, ignore the fickle scales and keep going. We promise you it will work! Those pounds gained are probably more due to inflammation and water retention from being sick, and I am sure they will come off soon. Staying off the scales, as Jojo suggests, is a good idea.
