  • Another happy bunny here, good fast day completed. Polishing the halo next.
How lovely for you and Wiwi to meet up Purple, there would have been far too much talking to have time to eat anyway!

I enjoyed my swim again today, slowly increasing number of laps and endurance is growing. Who is this woman I see in the mirror? She looks familiar, but so different from only 6 months ago! And she behaves differently too!

SAMM I just read thru the whole CRAN article by Ben Best. Very interesting. I think some of his ideas have been improved upon with latest research, (eg need for low fat), but overall it seems he has done his homework well. And is using himself as a guinea pig. The stuff he says about hunger and appetite particularly interesting. “It is easier to avoid eating than to stop eating once started” Very familiar to many of us on here I would think. I would like to read some more recent reports from him, must google him.

I hope your gym session has reset your mood/frustration with yourself Amazon. As CW says, wobbles happen so fast. Thank goodness we can reset with fasting.

    Afternoon fast trackers.

Nama, you are so right, I felt really frustrated yesterday after a weekend of eating when I had planned to fast. I enjoyed the food, and I didn’t eat too much in the way of carbs or sugary stuff, but it was still too much. I guess my willpower isn’t quite strong enough yet, but it is much better than before so I must settle for that and move on.

I had a great session at the gym today and am now very tired, but I thoroughly enjoyed pushing myself to improve my fitness and strength. When I first started mid January, I could barely manage 5 minutes on the cross trainer set at the easiest level, and I did 25 minutes today gradually increasing the level every 5 minutes. It feels so good to finally get to grips with it πŸ˜›

I’ve got a 1,000 calorie menu today which is way under my TDEE, and I’ll be fasting tomorrow.
I did some shopping on the way home, but decided to avoid selecting Easter eggs until I’m shopping with a full stomach!

    Back on track.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/zptc9j6

This is an interesting test. Unfortunately there aren’t any options for saying, I never eat that, but it is good, and might just make some people think more carefully about their diet, and I don’t mean any of us.
    Surprise, surprise, I’m a whole foodie πŸ˜›

Busy thread as usual! Jojo…hope the new social group is a hit! How fun!

Add me to the list of those who ate too much over the weekend. Sometimes I feel like a dog chasing my tail. I lose during the week and put it back on over the weekend! Sigh……. You’d think I would learn, wouldn’t you? Having a much needed fast day today.

    Make it a good day!

    Hi fas trackers,
Love to see the interaction of some of you! You know each each to well which looks like a family. I am slowly getting the picture and few of the names are already in my head.
Question! Today is my second week and what works for me is a coffee w/ little almond milk and stevia. With this little breakfast I am able to get busy and wait until lunch. Am I breaking my fast with that breakfast?
    Thanks a million

I’ve done a bit of internet research on this and the general consensus is that less than 40 calories will not break a fast or take the body out of ketosis.

I have tea with a splash of milk to start my FDs, and later in the day I have coffee with a little unsweetened almond milk, but I don’t eat until dinner and don’t consider that the drinks break my fast.

    Very nice! Thanks Amazon πŸ™‚

The level of success here is staggering and the overall adherence or compliance rate extremely high on the basic 5-2 of course every one of us has their own thing but the IF is working and so then its simply rate over time. Many have a workout component or solid exercise regime followed daily and others nothing much and yet all are successfully losing the fat. Scales give the numbers but I think what we see and how we feel is the biggest β€˜holy-shit batman moment’ Im sure you agree Nama πŸ˜‰ cue wolf whistle look good feel good Ok on a study of one I am right now to see what is 60 minutes a day really worth to me over a 2 week study period 18/6 v 19/5

    Hello Monday fasters

Hope you’ve made it safely through the day and resisting through the evening. If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere then good morning by the time you read this.

Good fast day for me. No calories all day and just enjoyed a lovely tea of stuffed pepper (158 calories) wafer thin cooked ham (50 calories) and Moroccan salad. (104 calories) and feeling very full – enough to last me till breakfast that’s for sure.

Does anyone know if we have a Facebook group set up? I love reading all the posts in here but it’s not so easy to ‘chat’ or hold discussion.

Finishing making some cupcakes for Comic Relief – feel guilty for encouraging others to eat sugary fatty things. I need to rethink my strategy πŸ™‚

    CW

    Good evening All,
Very busy day followed by dull evening. Hopefully the rest of the social group will be more interesting and lively. They were all very charming and some of their activities will be right up my street- archery, 10 pin bowling, tennis, walking, cinema, theatre, discos but they can keep the chat( moaning) club nights and quiz nights. My evening was not as good as my usual badminton session( get better shoulder) but it was better than watching TV alone.

Good fast day, stomach relieved from digestive hell of the weekend. Yoga was particularly tough on my back today but I can now kiss my knees with straight legs. This forward bend used to come easily in my youth but was impossible when I was obese. Good to become more flexible, hope I can move tomorrow.

Amazon – are you running or walking on the treadmill? I now walk 10 mins then run 10 intermittently up to one hour, feels good( use level 6 walk-7-8 run)

Hi everyone, so tired from long, long day at work yesterday. No time when I got home either, so when my head hit the pillow I was out for the count (luckily next door neighbour didn’t start his motor bike up until 5:30 this morning and I was able to get back to sleep for 3/4 hour afterwards). So after having a sleep in for half an hour I didn’t get online this morning other than reading quickly the emails on my phone.

Another busy day at work, but decided I needed to take a full lunch break in one session today hence I can have a quick update now πŸ˜€

FD today, yesterday was not a FD but consumed a total of 550 calories (soup 100 cals, very small steak, lean, grilled with steamed sprouts). So far today just a cup of bonox for lunch.

Chat more later (I hope). Cheers, AO πŸ˜€ πŸ˜†

AO 550 calories on a non fast day is awesome you go girlfriend πŸ˜‰

    Hi Fasttrackers

Have been AWL for a few days (very busy life) and to prove it I now have a cold sore πŸ™

Three good FDs last week and Wednesday weights day <1000C but scales show a GAIN!!! Fortunately not derailed like in other weight loss systems and fasted yesterday and again today.

Amazon, having the HB’s S&S chook tonight. I calculated the cals and found with 400g chicken breast for 4 serves it comes out at about 350C, which is more than the published count. Skeptical me πŸ˜‰ but better to know the truth. Fortunately as that will be all the calories for today except for a cup of miso soup in 20′, it’s OK.

Jojo, glad to hear your daughter is on the mend.

Wiwi safe travels and welcome home Bay. Purple, nice you and Wiwi could catch up and yes, a mate who also only drinks long black on Mondays πŸ˜‰

Good to hear from everyone else (you know who you are as RT says). Must get back to work.

Take care everyone and keep up the good work. nxxx

    Hi Nicky,
Commiserations re the cold sore, they are awful things. I also get them if stressed or too much time in the sun. Last few years I started using Blackmores LYP-SINE and its amazing stuff. Apparently the virus wont grow if there is Lysine (amino acid) present too, thats how it works. I always take two morning and night at first sign of one at they always fizzle out. I dont take them any other time, even though Blackmores telll you to! Cold sores are really nasty things – I am blind in one eye because apparently I must have spread one from my face into my eye as a kid. I regularly had it cauterised which left scarring on cornea, no such thing as Acyclovir back then. So I have a healthy respect for them! Being a scientist, you probably know all this!!

    Hi Nama

Sad about your eye. If only we knew then what we know now. Is a corneal transplant an option. No need to respond, I imagine that being part of the medical fraternity (or sorority?) you will have explored all avenues.

Thanks for the tip about lysine – hadn’t heard of that and will definitely get some.

Have used Virasolve and related products ever since they came on the market – nothing like a mis-shapen RNA analogue to disrupt the replication process.

Home from work about an hour ago, have had cuppa with OH now sitting down to do a bit of prep for Thursday’s TAFE class before starting dinner. Need to stay busy so I don’t raid the fridge πŸ˜‰

    Take care, n.

Thanks Nicky, I think as it happened when I was in primary school, I just adapted as kids do. I do remember the searing pain after the local anaesthetic wore off tho – kids were tough in those days! My mother never gave me so much as an asprin! I use it as an excuse for my clumsiness! Have discussed treatments with specialists but they feel, due to the age I was, the “patterning” that is part of the optic nerve’s development would not have been completed properly, so even with a clear cornea I probably wouldnt see properly. At least I save money on glasses, only clear glass in my bung eye! And there could have been a lot worse places for a herpes to grow! I admire your energy taking on extra work with TAFE ! Cheers x

    Good morning All,
No loss but no gain so pressing on with an extra fast today to make up for weekend over indulgence, proof that even too much healthy food will show on the scales. It was so spicy and delicious though couldn’t avoid a second helping of veg curry.

Homemade veg soup for lunch and fish and veg for dinner today. May have an apple and orange if needed for snack if tempted by food of tempting variety whilst at bowls or gym.

Need to do some dreaded housework this evening, my bedroom looks like a bombsight, will I never learn to hang everything up if it isn’t going in the wash. Seriously I am a preverbial teenager over bedroom etiquette. Maybe I should make this my next New Years Resolution. Of course it doesn’t help that my wardrobes are fit to burst.
How is everyone else doing? Looking forward to a slimmer summer, I seriously need some rays, white as a ghost.
Have a good day everyone, don’t work too hard.

    Nama,
I was sorry to hear about your eye, I was unaware of the risk of cold sore cross contamination to the eye and blindness. I did know they were very contagious. Thank goodness there are medications which give you early relief now. I think it is very helpful to go public with things like this, you may save someone else having the same problem.

Thanks Jojo, as I said it happened when I was very young and I have adapted as kids do! I am just very conscious of looking after the other eye, especially in the garden! Cold sores can be very nasty indeed. Most people get infected when children, probably from a kiss or such from a caring relative, then the infection hangs around in your nervous system for life. The virus lives in the nerve root and becomes active with triggers such as a viral (hence “cold” sores) infection, stress or even too much UV sunlight can trigger them. They eventually burn out, but we have usually infected ourselves in another spot by then. Fortunately there are strong anti viral drugs these days, but even these are nasty as they need to get right inside the cell where a virus lives. I nursed a young family man in his 30s years ago who had a herpes infection in his brain, he had a terrible outcome. Any nurse that works with newborns is not allowed into the building if she develops a cold sore, they are just too dangerous for new bubs. I guess you are right, its good to talk about these things whatever the forum.

You say you overindulged at the weekend, but it was healthy food! Imagine if it had been a year ago. Our ideas of overindulgence have changed I think!

    Morning all,
Overslept and missed Pilates again. I’ll have to get a second alarm clock at this rate!
Nama, I only have one good eye, I can see out of the other one but it is very distorted due to a retinal vein thrombosis caused by unkown and hence untreated hypertension. I had been seeing my GP for several months as I was concerned about my BP, and he gave me one of those monitors to wear. The results were examined and my BP deemed very variable but nothing to worry about, and then I lost part of my vision in one eye. It happened 10 years ago, and there is no treatment for it. It is resolving very very slowly and is better than it was, but I would be in trouble if anything happened to the other eye as I am unable to read, and there is no lens that can correct it. Such is life, we just have to get on with it.

Jojo, I’m walking increasingly fast on the treadmill, and am expecting to have no choice but break into a run anytime soon πŸ™‚
No after effcts from my marathon workout yesterday which is good.

I’m going out later to visit my brother and his family. They only live 14 miles away but it is a horrible drive across London and takes forever.
FD today which is fine as they don’t do snacks and are not in the habit of forcing food on people. I’ll get a cup of tea or two, and be informed that I’m welcome to stay for dinner if I wish, and that will be it.

Nicky, the Hairy Bikers recipe specifies 200g of chicken breast meat and the recipe serves four, so that is why it came out higher for you as you doubled the amount of chicken. I reduced the calories by leaving out all but a tsp of oil, and then added lots of veggies so ended up with 300 calories per serving which was very generous with all the extra veggies and some zero noodles.

    Have a good one!

Hi everyone. FD yesterday, spent all day looking forward to breakfast this morning and when I woke up wasn’t hungry so I’ve just had a couple of decaff coffees. May leave until lunchtime and have some salmon.

    Hi Graham,
that’s one of the great things about 5:2, when you wake up after a FD you are rarely hungrier than usual, and often less so.
Well done for not eating just because you can. That is another benefit IMO, it teaches you to listen to your body and only eat when you are hungry.

    Good Morning Folks,
I had a wonderful FD yesterday! Fasting isn’t that dificil for me the only set back was that I didn’t feel like exercising. My meals strategy is really working and for next week I will introduce a 100% vegetarian meal. I am keeping the same food the for the FD. I think if I keep it simple is one less stress for me me to deal with.
Don’t remember who said something about a facebook group yesterday! I am soooo happy here there is good too.
    The scale is working!
    Enjoy your day.

Hi Amazon, thats such a shame that your BP wasnt treated earlier! But I guess better a thrombosis in your eye than in your brain! Between us we could make one person with good eyesight! I am breaking into a sweat thinking of you breaking into a run…obviously you are getting good value from your gym membership.

Well done Graham! I think most of us are not as hungry after a fast day. In fact I think, as Amazon says, we are now really listening to the cues from our bodies. Probably we put on weight initially from eating when not really hungry. Just habit, or because we really enjoy food. Even though we all complain about having the occasional breakout, its nothing compared to what our “old” selves would have eaten. Keep up the good work.

Healthcoach you also seem to be a fast learner. Planning certainly helps!

I was very strong when shopping today. Had a healthy lunch, resisted all sorts of things that called to me. Then I got home and ate some lovely chocolate that someone had planted in my fridge! I have thrown the rest out, nobody will benefit from eating it. And if I had left it there it would eventually have ended up in my bloodstream!

Hi all starting my first proper fast today today and Thursday. Weigh on Friday wish me luck lol

    Good luck πŸ™‚

    Good luck byrn

    FG you nailed it!
    Eat only When hungry!
That’s a big tool in bat mans belt when he’s trying to lose weight!

    Evening all.

My FD has gone very well. No food until my dinner of vegetable curry with chuntney and cucumber raita. I’m going to try to keep below 1200 calories again tomorrow which should be OK as I’ll be busy all morning and won’t break my fast until early afternoon.
I had a great afternoon with my brother. My niece was working from home and my nephew is home from university for the Easter break. I’ve not seen either of them since Christmas so it was really nice πŸ˜›

Happy Hump Day EFB’s I have work in Lobethal tomorrow and Murray Bridge on Friday and then away in Sydney Tue-Thrs next week in my old way of life I smashed my way through an amazing amount and range of greasy yummy fatty goodness as somewhere lurking in the back of my mind either I was actually being paid to eat or I was eating for free because I am reimbursed all expenses other than booze and that fast friends is the green light to indulge not ideal so I will need to carefully manage and plan this time away no doubt about that ok you beautiful losers keep on keeping on
    eat fast & live longer
    Peace RT

You’ll be fine in Sydney RT. Plenty of healthy food choices here, mate.
Hope you have fun in ‘the big smoke’. πŸ™‚ P

    Good evening all,
Tough day fasting today, literally felt feint at bowls this morning so had a sausage roll, literally the only food available mid morning. I had left my fruit at home, idiot. Still hungry at lunchtime so I ate two eggs on buttered brown seeded toast(I never usually eat bread) but for dinner just had chilli squash soup(very, very spicy)followed by an orange a some nuts.

I think an early night is in order before I eat anything else, night all.

RT plenty of good wholesome food options in Lobethal and probably Murray Bridge too πŸ˜€ have a fun time πŸ˜€

So much to catch up on from yesterday … Nama sorry to hear re your eye, but as you say it happened when other options were not available.

Another busy day here again, hopefully not tooooooo busy πŸ˜† will check back in when I can (I try to read all the emails as they come through but don’t always read them fully if things get hectic πŸ˜€ but I do try to add something most if not all days πŸ˜†

Must run, work in half an hour and things still to do … ciao for now … AO xx

**ooops edited to add had a good FD yesterday and will aim for a semi-FD today**

I’m new to the forum, here a couple of weeks now and have been posting this last week. I would love to join the FaceBook page once I’ve been here long enough. I don’t seem to be able to add my email to my profile though? It has my profile name JayeGirl and when I change it to my email it reverts back?

    Happy fasting eveyone.

    Good morning all

Just a quick check in as another hectic week.

Amazon, the BBC food version of the HB’s S&S just said two boneless skinless chicken breasts. The chooks from my butcher are quite large and after I had boned out and skinned the two breasts it was 800g so did one, thinking 100g chicken/person would be about right.

Like you I did all the cooking in 1T oil in my very well seasoned wok and could have used less. I added a head of broccoli and also omitted the sugar and vinegar as it tasted sweet and sour enough to my palate without the extra Cs from the sugar. It was yummy and now have 1 generous serve left in the freezer because OH ‘tidied away’ some of the leftovers while on kitchen clean up. πŸ˜‰ He’s skinny as so no complaints.

RT, as AO says, lots of good food in Lobethal and Murray Bridge – stay away from the road houses and bakeries as that’s where temptation lies. πŸ˜‰

Keep up the good work everyone and take care. n

While the FDA has no formal dietary recommendation, the agency does not object to claims that 160mg of DHA is the recommended daily intake for normal, healthy individuals.

Woke forgetting that this was my semi fast day. Was all like uggggggggh!
Then I remembered Im on a two planned break! Was all like Oh Hell Yea! LETS EAT! And the then go gets hit done at the gym. πŸ™‚

Here’s a link to the highest sources of omega3
Was glad I looked over it found some old favorites like cheese. Especially gouda.
It’s my understanding that omega 3 from plant based sources has a less effective uptake ratio so here’s a list from cheese and eggs which are not plant based. Further on the subject is vitamins and minerals from living sources. I previously thought is best to get vitamins and minerals from plants and animals as opposed to soils. However after reading on the subject. My opinion has changed to getting it both from dietary foods and supplement both. To cover all the variations. My strategy has been to bare down and focus on 8400 calorie menu or 1200×7 Days menu, AND make those 8400 as packed with a much pre and probiotics, antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins and minerals a I can to cover the adequate nutrition everyday even if I’m below TDEE by 800 Macro calories. Rambling again ;p
Correction this list is just from the highest in the dairy and eggs filter.
So I’ll incude both links highest overall and just from dairy and eggs.

Planning a trip after work to the organic market to see what they have I may not know about?

Hi Everyone, I have just completed a 450 calorie fast day, followed by a liquid only day (apart from a brazil nut, thanks SAMM) and I have woken up very early feeling empowered and a tad hungry.

I was amazed yesterday that I was able to prepare, and sit and watch, my oh eating a fray bentos pie and chips, while I just had a cup of bovril. I really didn’t even feel hungry. He lost his tidgy bit of extra weight very quickly, plus more besides and is now trying to regain a bit.

I am feeling good now after a coffee with a splash of milk and an almond. We are having a slice of malt loaf for breakfast, looking forward to that!

I would love to join the facebook group. I have been posting on the forums since 5/1/15. I will make sure my email address is in my profile.

    Have a good day x

    Morning/evening all.

Nicky, I used stevia to cut the calories even more. It is a really tasty dish and I’ll definitely be making it again. I actually made it with leftover roast chicken and just chucked it in at the last minute and it worked very well!
I’ve found that now I’ve used a few of those type of recipes, I’m easily able to adapt some of my other favourites to reduce calories and cut out sugar and other less healthy ingredients. One of the main attractions of 5:2 is that we can eat normal food, and the same meal can be eaten by the family.

I’ve woken up this morning feeling so much better. It has taken me two days to get over the bloated feeling from eating too much at the weekend. The sun is shining and the sky is blue and it looks lovely, but I just took the rubbish out and it is freezing! Hopefully it’ll warm up later.

    Have a good day/evening everyone.

I also just took the rubbish bins out, A. It rained a bit this afternoon and, as I dragged the heavy recycling bin up the driveway, I slipped, thumped down on my elbow, knee and both hands, then slid down the concrete! Good one. Blood, swelling, you get it. Not happy tonight πŸ™ P

    Purple, you poor thing Smiley

P, I feel for you. Never good to leave bits of you on the rough concrete! Take care to rest, and let OH get the bin in again.

P! You have to be the most accident prone person I know. The neighbours will be thinking you are permanently drunk πŸ˜‰ Hope you’re OK?

Appplepie, I can easily resist fray bentos pies, although my OH likes them. I remember the ads from my childhood ‘no fat or gristle guaranteed’. The very thought of fat or gristle, even though they promised there was none, was enough to put me off for life!

Hi everybody. FD on Monday and woke up on Tuesday morning not feeling hungry so decided to leave it till lunch, as I mentioned earlier. Then started building furniture and got so involved I forgot about lunch. Had a shower after and a good long sit down late afternoon (and fell asleep for a couple of hours), so by the time I had anything to eat it was 8pm and I’m afraid I went a bit mad. I was so hungry I had about 1300 calories including a can of Guinness, though in my defence I had fasted for 45 hours. I shan’t do that again.

Anyway, feast day today (should have been yesterday) so a good breakfast, pastrami & salad sandwiches with lots of mayonnaise for lunch and a prawn stir fry for tea, yum.

Thanks guys….off to bed covered in bandaids. P

O, Purple, are you Blue? You poor thing. πŸ˜₯ Please take care. Good people are scarce. Bay πŸ˜‰

Well done, Applepie, Amazon, Happy and Graham. Fantastic fasters all! πŸ™„ Bay

Amazon, I love your animated emoticon. Wish I could do them. Bay πŸ˜‰

    Welcome JayeGirl,
    Good Luck with your fasting.
You will find lots of support on this thread.

PVE – you poor thing, please be careful.

I am late posting today as I overslept then dashed off to bowls, skipping Yoga today as my back still fragile. Just off to walk dogs, not as nice as yesterday but mild. Choir later.

Making up a salad for lunch which will be very early as I was starving this morning so I brought my window forward starting at 8 am. This will be the first time I have brought forward my eating window so experimentation today, hope I can sleep tonight.

    Afternoon all.
It is a beautiful sunny day here and it has warmed up considerably since 8am.
I had another great morning at the gym. I’ve decided to try running on the treadmill next week Smiley
I’m just tucking in to my granola with raspberries, yoghurt and almond milk.
I’m clearing out the freezer so tonight’s dinner will be roasted asparagus followed by a bolognese sauce and depending on how many calories in it either a small amount of pasta or zero noodles and salad.I’m aiming for 1200 calories today.
I’ll also be making a pork with chilli casserole that is one of my favourites and will either be divided into miniscule portions or be designated non FD food.

    Amazon,
Sounds great, take care on that treadmill.

I was tempted to try today, but decided to wait until next week. I’m working very hard on curbing my enthusiasm and not doing too much too soon, as my body is taking it’s time coming to terms with all the exercise which is no surprise.
