  • Hi Sparkleray
As often as possible is my initial answer!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Mr P and I continued having a glass of white or red wine 5 nights a week during the year we took to reach our goal weights (he lost 33kg. I lost 29)
In the 10 months since, we still have wine on non fast days, often sharing a bottle a couple of days a week. We have given up beer and cider as they have horrific effects of Mr P’s bloodsugar levels. (He has reversed his diabetes through 5:2, so knows what happens)
So, yes, you can lose weight and drink moderate amounts of wine. Always washed down with plenty of water. ๐Ÿ™‚ Purple

Good morning Fasting Friends around the world (you know who you are, as RT and AO said).

    Happy St Valentine’s Day!

Welcome Cigsmcandy and SparkleRay. Do tell us something about your fasting journeys.

Very hot day predicted for here (41C max for Adelaide city and fire bans most places) so nothing energetic planned. Been invited to dinner with friends tonight so no fasting for me. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Will try to be moderate of course.

    edit: good morning Purple.

Keep up the good work everyone and ‘aveagoodweekend’. n

    hello again!:)

I did post this as a separate posting so I am just copying and pasting! lol

    Hello fellow 5:2ers!

I am unsure as to why I lost almost 5 pounds the first 2 weeks only to go right back to my starting weight the end of the 3rd week.

Before I started 5:2 I normally ate roughly 1200-1500 calories a day plus exercising 3-5 times a week for 30-60mins. But I did go through a year where I ate very little(pretty much put my body into starvation mode)and I didnโ€™t lose anymore then 5pounds which I have put back on this past year. Donโ€™t know if maybe I wreaked havoc on my digestive tract??!!!!

After beginning 5:2 I was under the impression my calorie intake was too low so since I began 5:2 I have upped my cals to 1500-1800(even though I feel fat eating so much even though my choices are healthy, I think it may be my mentality on food and body image). My BMI is 25.8 my BMR is 1450 and my TDEE is 1987(I chose the lower activity level just in case).

I always calorie count so I know exactly how many I consume each week and this past week I calculated a total consumed of 9949 calories which I thought was ok but maybe I am wrong????!!!!

On fast days I am usually under by 50 to 100 cals which I thought was a good thing. I am now considering 4:3. I only have 20-25 pounds to lose and was hoping this would be a good lifestyle change that would slowly get me to my goal in 5-6months.

Can anyone please give me some advice or encouragement or let me know if this is going to be a waste of my time.

    ps
oh I also have one cheat day where I probly go to 2400 cals, but thatโ€™s only 1 day a week and I cant give that up cause where am at right now in my life I need a little break from everyday life. the cals are so high cause I consume about 4 glasses of wine sometimes 5โ€ฆโ€ฆ.lol

oh one more thing! I am 30 with 4 beautiful children so giving up my cheat day is not an option!!!!! mommy needs her time too!!!!!!

oh and it is so relieving and nice to have so many nice people on these forums!!!!!

    Hi Nicky
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and all my lovely ft mates. As they say in the vernacular “Love youse all!” โ™กโ™ฅ

AO I do fancy my kitchen skills but I do struggle with the French โ€˜Manuโ€™ whereโ€™s da sauce accent but 3 courses planned 1) oysters 12 half Kilpatrick and half mornay 2) chicken breast poached in white wine with a mango and Galliano cream sauce with a light tossed salad and sweet potato mash 3) Strawberries Romanoff steeped in grand Marnier and served with cream dinner for 2 served out on the back deck after the sun goes down..Not a big fan of the soppy card so a simple verbal exchange although I am toying with the chefs apron and no undies look ๐Ÿ˜ฏ you have the visual I am sure. And have high hopes for a horizontal dance later ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Peace RT

Oh, RT, can Yfee loan you out anytime? I haven’t even had an acknowledgement of the day, am married to the most unromantic and *&%## person, the only thing he knows in the kitchen is leaving messes on the bench, and drawers ajar.

    The visuals are stunning!

    A good guy, though ๐Ÿ™‚

RT I have been off line for the past few weeks so to come back to your descriptive prose made me realise how I have truly missed you all! I have been plodding along with little success but I know why. Calorie intake generally tells the truth on the scales.
I am basically recovered from my late dec surgery and apart from feelings of fatigue from time to time all is on the way up.
Am using the fitbit that the boys gave me for Xmas this week. I could not work out how to erase 42 thousand calories from a single meal. I thought I was typing in 420 but there seems to be no delete button!
The gadget is good as it really encourages me to get in my walk with the dog everyday as my step count needs it. Although I awoke this morning to the news on my iPad that my friend has just walked six thousand steps! It is a challenge week-end.
A FD for me today so best get up and moving 41 degrees Celsius for us today Yuk

    Hello everyone and Welcome Sparkle,

HappyValentines Day to you all, thanks for your wishes. They are the only ones I get as we never “do” Valentines Day. It is my birthday in one week, then Wedding Anniversary in 2 weeks, so thats quite enough for us! Plus we were both born well before Valentines became part of the culture here and find the commercialisation of it a bit annoying! Maybe thats just me being jealous of the fuss other women have made over them! Son’s beautiful girlfriend did bring home some Lindt Balls for me last night though, she knows how much I love them …. they are my “wine” occasionally and very easy to limit to one and really enjoy!

One funny memory of VT Days past is when an amorous schoolgirl bought my 16 yr old son a giant teddy bear with a stubby beer tucked under its arm, wrapped up and delivered (as per flowers) to his SCHOOL!
I got a terse phone call from reception to please come and collect my son’s alcohol, the principal (Priest) did NOT encourage the boys to have alcohol at school!

Sparkle, I cant advise you much as you seem to be well-versed in 5:2 already. But Welcome to our happy group, keep involved and you will learn a lot on here, plus have some fun. With 20 lbs to lose it will be slow but steady as long as you follow the guidelines, just be patient with yourself. This is a Way of Life, not a short term fix to drop a few pounds, many of us have lost weight successfully with other traditional deprivation type diets only to regain it all with interest. By only fasting 2 days a week (generally) we dont feel like we are on a diet. As Jojo once said, she is not on a diet, she fasts twice a week. Its a whole different mentality and I find, much easier to adhere to. You are well ahead if used to calorie counting. Also, I find 4:3 pretty challenging so only do it occasionally when feeling the need to reboot.

RT I am jealous of Mrs RT tonight …. strawberries Romanoff, yum! I used to soak strawberries in Grand Marnier to take to the tennis to enjoy slowly on a hot night! Go for the apron routine, if you can offload the kids for the night, you might be “dancing” out on the back deck too!

Hermaj, enjoy your night out with your toyboy, how lovely! What are you going to see?
Thanks for your desciptions Jojo, I always pictured Amazon as her name sake! Between the bog and getting lost in the train station with Smiffy, you are having adventures in London! Your weekend sounds brilliant!

Scales down another 0.8 kg this morning (?2lb) and I dont “weekly” weigh in til after Mondays Fast! But I have done 4:3 this week and tried a new “Fast” recipe for dinner Mon,Wed and Fri…..its obviously paid off! I only have another 7 kgs to get to my provisional goal, so expect it to be much slower now. 4:3 is tough for me but if I do it about once a month, I feel like I am on holiday just doing 5:2!

Our very hot Friday culminated in a massive thunderstorm last night which resulted in the power going off. Luckily it was 8pm so not too disruptive, but had to go to bed early by candlelight! Much nicer than torches.

    Cheers all x

    Hi emel,
welcome back! Sounds like a good day for watermelon!

Thanks for the feed back 5:2ers! ๐Ÿ™‚

another question I cant seem to find the answer is ………(lol)

If I consume over my TDEE but workout and burn the equivalent amount does that nullify the overage???!!!

And thank you Nama your words do encourage me as I am way too hard on myself! Ill try to remember that this is my way of life now:)

    Hi Sparkle:

No. Your TDEE includes any exercise. You just have to control your caloric intake. One of my recent posts on this thread explains more: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Well you know Barata I run a very simple and if I dare say so myself successful long term philosophy in that you must put a few logs on the romance coals to keep the passion fire going otherwise it goes out. my sons have adopted this for themselves and a supermarket bunch of flowers on the breakfast bar in a glass jar vases are so old hat they tell me ๐Ÿ˜ฏ they can even buy drinks at a bar in a jar hmmm. A Chinese take away dinner and a dvd and some sweet moscato seems most welcome every now and then the boys tell me ๐Ÿ˜‰ itโ€™s very easy to drift along and then apart and forget how it all began. Interestingly enough when I buy flowers its always returned with a what have you done this time or hmm you must be in the S**T again not even my broโ€ฆ.Nama the strawberries at the tennis how indulgent opulent and wonderful just to read that yes I have a kid free zone the one out to the farm is already depressed no wi-fi etc and the other 2 not back till Sunday evening so will be making hay while the sunshines as it where ๐Ÿ˜Ž and my SA fast friend Emel as freaky as this is I was just thinking I hadnโ€™t seen anything from you since the dreadful news of funerals to attend a few weeks back so nice to hear from you I am glad you are on the line again take care of and be good to you.
    Peace..RT

Good to have you back, Emel, you’ll have to walk fast and far to erase those calories. Have you tried doing a reset of your personal details on the computer.

Good philosophy, RT. We find a beautiful sunset (like Plimmerton, Bay which I prefer to call Karehana) is a great bonder.

Nothing on 5:2 is forbidden, Sparkle, that’s the joy. But on a quarter of TDEE, a glass of wine represents a large percentage of daily food intake. The sugar in the wine will also leave you with a sugar spike followed by you feeling hungry. So veges and protein leave you feeling full for a longer time.

Bad weather in Wellington , so no romantic sunset tonight.

Has anyone seen “50 Shades of Grey”? Apparently physiotherapists are busy at present, thanks to that! (wink, snigger)
I read the books, so not tempted by the film.

    Happy valentines day
    XX Wiwi

RT, your posts never fail to make me smile! I am the chef in my house, and I am sure my husband would enjoy the apron-no-undies look as well!
Happy Valentine’s Day (tomorrow), everyone! Love and fasting are all you need!

    Thanks, Wiwi

Karehana is a lovely word for a beautiful place.

    Cheers, Bay ๐Ÿ˜‰

RT – love the thought of apron and no undies … after all you need something to protect the delicate bits from the cooking heat ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hi Emel and welcome back. Glad to hear your recovery is progressing well.

Nama, we’re also of an age before V’s Day (typed VD as a abbreviation then thought better of it ๐Ÿ˜† ) practices widely adopted. After all, probably another marketing ploy. However, one year OH brought a red rose home – ambushed in the street by an opportunist but nice thought anyway.

Definitely believe a good relationship shouldn’t be taken for granted – any friendship needs effort to keep it alive.

No dancing, horizontal or otherwise for us tonight what with my cracked ribs and OH with cold he picked up from the grandies ๐Ÿ™ Will make do with nice cuddle.

Take care everyone and keep up the good work. n.

    Sparkle

The trick at the beginning is to get used to the rhythm of fasting two days a week. Learning to drink at least two litres of water per day, and not grazing or nibbling. Or absentmindedly putting leftover child food into your mouth. ๐Ÿ˜‰

A little lean protein and green vegetables, maybe an egg. Reading Michael Mosleys book and using some of the 5:2 recipe suggestions. You will work out what you need.

Intermittent fasting definitely works. I have been fasting on 5:2 for 13 months, and have maintained my goal weight for over six months. The best part is having to buy new clothes in 3 sizes smaller. ๐Ÿ˜†

Keep busy on fast days. Drink lots of water whenever you feel hungry. Understand that this is your new WOL and not a short term diet.

    All the best, Bay ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey hey you guys are my extended cyber family and I am really honoured and privileged to have you all as my fast friends now NickyF no undies but an apron is required at the minute ply you are of course a no knickers required type of gal and I have no doubt your man would be thinking he is living the dream for sure โ€œI borrowed the phrase from Phil Collinsโ€ the mind is a very powerful inducement ok trendsetters its cooking time I bring the magic
    ๐Ÿ˜† let the adventure begin

    Morning/evening all.

It is a lovely morning with blue sky and sunshine. It has arrived a little late as Smiffy left yesterday evening, and Jojo is away with her son this morning. but we had good walks despite the weather. The last two days have been really good fun and it was great to turn cyber friends into the real thing!
I’m not fasting today, but I am going to try to make sensible choices. I’m off to the farmers market in a few minutes to see what the butcher and the fishman have on offer today.

    Have a good day/evening everyone.

Good morning fast trackers, just going in to breakfast then my son picking me up. He is cooking me a Valentine lunch, hopefully fully clothed. His girlfriend works on Sat so we have the day alone. His Dad and sister are joining us in London this evening.
It has been a great few days, lots of walking, eating and laughing. Poor Smiffy had the journey from hell back to Wales. Travelling for almost 8 hours, bless her.
I really must make the effort to come to London more, it is such a vibrant place, revives the country bumpkin I have become living in a sleepy coastal backwater. Have eaten far too much though, exercise and fasting high on the agenda next week.

    Welcome Sparkleray,
Calories vary with each person, mine seem very low but only work at 400 fast day and 1100 non fast and I do an average of three hours exercise per day. My exercise varies each day but always includes one hour walking. Some aerobic and some stretching type like Yoga. Simple answer is if you are not losing cut until you are.

    Hi Nama,

Toy Boy the Younger is escorting me to see The Scottsboro Boys. This is our third annual trip to the theatre and as usual we look for something spectacular with singing and dancing (our boy sings and when younger used to do jazz dance) but with serious undertones. We went to Billy Elliot (all about the destruction of the British coal industry by the Thatcher mob), then to War Horse (all about World War 1).

This year’s show, which has won numerous awards, is set in the Great Depression at a time when nobody had even thought of civil rights. It’s about a group of young African Americans wrongly accused of rape and condemned to death and the story of how eventually they were freed. My great nephew is studying the Great Depression and the civil rights movement in his history lessons, so as well as being a good day out the show will be “relevant”.

We shall then join Toy Boy the Elder for dinner at our excellent local curry house.

Sorry guys, another rant coming up.

“David Cameron has commissioned a health adviser to review whether people with obesity, alcohol or drug problems should have benefits cut if they refuse treatment to make them fit for work.” BBC News Website 14/2/2015

Fair enough, there are people who don’t want to work, who at the same time stuff their faces with junk until they’re busting out of their clothes, sit around at home in front of the telly getting rat-a*sed, and use their spare cash to score drugs, while claiming sickness benefit.

But is this also just another instance of demonising people with weight problems? As many of us on 5:2 have found, losing the blubber ain’t always easy but most of us persevere and watch the pounds creeping rather than dropping off. There’s also a risk that the medical establishment will drop accepable BMI from 25 to something like 17, so that unless your are skeletal you are classified as overweight.

Finally, as many GPs (but not all) know sweet FA about sensible and effective weight loss programmes like 5:2, large people who seek their advice will be given a calorie chart and told to stick to 1000 cal a day, well nigh impossible for someone used to pork pies, doughnuts and chip butties.

Hermaj I for one understand the “rant” or should we say justifiably angry venting (which is more accurate in my view).

RT hoping the bits were well protected for the BBQ and that you and your y-fee had a wonderful evening ๐Ÿ˜€ …

Still rather warm here (33.2oC) heading for another 40oC day tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚ … not that I mind for myself, just worry about the animals, the dogs are generally okay as we have misting available for them, just the chooks were suffering tonight until we put a misting fan in there too, leaving the top of the door partially open but had to switch the misting off for overnight as it only holds enough water for 2 hours, so at least they’ve got air flow (oscillating fan btw) and after a short time the temperature had dropped about 10oC in their room.

Off to snoozey land in a mo, so have a wonderful day those of us in the NH and sleep well those of us in the SH. Chat more tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜€ … Cheers, AO

Good morning all! It is a frigid -6 degrees here at the moment. Very unusual for it to be so cold. Also, guess what it in the forecast tonight and tomorrow? Yes, another blizzard, damaging winds and another foot plus of snow. Unbelievable!
Glad you had a lovely visit, Jojo, Amazon, and Smiffy! Wish I lived closer to join you! Have fun with your son and the rest of the family, Jojo.
Hermaj, seems like mostly demonizing to me. When the going gets tough, people look for someone to blame. We know that obesity is a deeper problem than the lazy individuals you describe. Of course, most of these folks are poor as well. Taking more away from those who have so little already does not sound like the best plan to me. We have the same sorts of proposals here. Stirring up fears of people cheating the system while living a cushy lifestyle. Many of the children and families at my school are on various types of government assistance, and none of them is living a cushy lifestyle. They work hard, take care of their kids as best they can, and live in constant fear of the illness, accident, job loss, or any number of small disasters that pushes them off track. At least two families have lost jobs because they could not get to work because of the snowstorms we have had. Public transportation has had all sorts of issues, and many places had cars snowed in under feet of snow. Never mind trying to find someone to take care of your kids for the six snow days we have had in the last 3 weeks.
Hi Sparkleray, another wine drinker here. I agree with Purple and others, if you can fit it in calorie-wise, go for it. However, it is easier to lose when you are not drinking alcohol. Even cutting it out for a few weeks makes a big difference. Do listen to the advice about drinking lots and lots of water! Perhaps after following 5:2 for awhile, you will find that you do not need such an extravagant cheat day, since you are only “deprived” two days a week. You just need to look at the evidence. If you are losing weight, keep doing what you’re doing. If not, do something different, as Jojo recommends!

Hermaj I hope the Scottsboro Boys was good. Hopefully the music and dancing lightened the mood of such a tragic storyline. And I trust ‘Mrs Robinson’ behaved impeccably!

Re your rant – Its so scary when Govts start pulling stunts like this. They are just oversimplifying such complex issues and my sceptical side says it is all to do with money! Governments dont appear to really care about public health and safety. We have a similar problem in Melbourne with the Road Safety issue. Speed limits are getting lowered to ridiculous levels, supposedly for safety, but revenue from Speed Cameras is rising astronomically. Speed Limits drop overnight with no warning or notice given, then cameras miraculously appear in the exact location in the blink of an eye, issuing huge fines. Its almost impossible to drive at 40 km/hr!

Aussie Oma, your dogs and your chickens are so lucky to have such a caring Mum! I hope the heat in SA didnt dampen RT’s enthusiasm…..
Jojo I hope your lunch with your son was fun, plus your evening. Sounds like your weekend was a huge success. I doubt you could ever be a Country Bumpkin!

There is a general election in May in the UK, so the governemt is trying to look busy!

It is the same here as anywhere else, make a big fuss about the effects of something to create a smokescreen around the fact that the cause is not being dealt with as someone (food industry) is making a lot of money and the government earning revenue from it via taxation.

This will continue ad nauseum unless government decide to adopt prevention rather than cure.

Does anyone know when hell is due to freeze over?

Hi Amazon. I believe that there is a small town in the US called Hell and it did indeed freeze over this winter!,

Can we stop the politics now?
    Thanks.

Cakey, we talk about anything and everything on this thread.

Amazon governments will never focus on prevention as they are not in power long enough to reap the rewards from proper, long-term solutions to our public health issues.

Cakey we are all in it for the long-haul and it would get really boring if we chatted about only 5;2. This thread has people from all corners of the world and we love discussing things that affect us all. The friendships that have grown may only be cyber ones, but they are still real and enable us to give support and encouragement to each other with the sometimes tough journey of transforming our lives. Please dont be offended, join in!

Yes Nama, I agree with you. I’m not much of a political animal, but get annoyed when those that need the most help are the ones that are threatened with being made to pay for the situation they find themselves in.

I am feeling good today, it is so nice to be fitter. I’ve done a lot of exercise this week, including my failed attempt to interest Jojo and Smiffy in bog snorkelling……some people have no sense of adventure ๐Ÿ˜‰

I bought some venison at the farmers market, a haunch steak and some shoulder meat. I’m going to have the steak for dinner with some salad and a few potatoes, and make a slow cooked casserole with the rest, and depending on how many calories it adds up to, it might turn into FD dinners.

I also bought some spring flowers, daffodils and tulips, only cost a few pounds for a huge bunch. When they open in a day or two they’ll look beautiful ๐Ÿ˜›

I am still thinking about that Japanese meal…………………

Bog snorkeling, Amazon? Is that an actual thing, or another one of those charming British or Aussie phrases I am unfamiliar with? I am afraid to google it for fear of what Urban Dictionary might say!
Venison meals sound wonderful! I don’t think I’ve ever eaten it, and it is not generally available in any of the food stores I shop at. I have some ramen bowls with crispy slow-cooked pork on the menu for tomorrow.
Just got some Valentine flowers delivered, and so lovely that they include tulips…spring may come, after all! Spring flowers are my favorite, especially daffodils! Enjoy yours!

    Hi ply,

The ground was a bit boggy in places when we were in Richmond Park, so we had to be careful. Bog snorkelling does exist. There is a town in Wales called Llanyrtydd Wells where they hold annual bog snorkelling championships. It is what it suggests, donning a wetsuit and snorkel and swimming through boggy channels, not for the faint hearted. Eccentricity at it’s finest!
I know about is because me and my Adelaide friend stayed in a cottage in LW a few years ago when she came to visit, and the local hotel had photos of bog snorkellers on the walls in the bar!
It is a beautiful part of the world ๐Ÿ˜›

    Hiya everyone
We had a great day with Dad for his 97th birthday , When we eventually got him up and out on the 2nd visit of the day . Great fun as any of you on FB have seen .

Amazon I get angry too with the politics . Especially when they go on about the ageing population in Scotland
. I am a very easy going person but when they say that I SHOUT at the screen ” do you just want to shoot us all now then “?

Happy valentines all of you . I have been married to my best friend and soul-mate for almost 54 years and we stopped giving valentines years ago BUT today he bought me my favourite flowers .. daffodils and I bought him chocolate . All together now AHHH !!

I loved RT’s idea of just having the apron on but if I did that my OH would be running for the iron to iron out the wrinkles my skin lol .

I am so pleased the ladies met and had such a great time and can I add ?all looked brilliant.

Jojo have a great time with your family pal .

have a great day everyone and as RT says ” you all know who you are”

    Wee xx

    Hi all!!
Interesting posts. I’m with Amazon re the government. They never seem to deal with the root causes of problems, just plaster them over. No idea who to vote for later this year, they are all pretty naff.Don’t want not to though, women fought hard for the vote and no woman should waste hers,I feel. Now I’m ranting!!!!! Apologies!
Having a lovely Valentine’s day, my OH did Coquille St Jacques +salad for lunch. In years gone by that would have been our starter in the evening, followed by another 3 courses( main, cheese and dessert)! Now with being on5:2 we just can’t eat like that any more. Like everyone else we really like this WOL.
My OH is a big romantic, although not so big now!!! He gave me flowers and a card too. I am really spoilt!
Happy Valentine’s everyone, and happy feasting/fasting.
    WN.

Trying to charge my Internet device. I’m lost on the thread.
Just poking in to say I’m happy with the 4:3 this way.
Ate my last feed day 500 cal meal at lunchtime at 5am clocked out at 1130am.
Went straight home and slept till 5pm when wife and daughter were home. They ate around 8.
Went outside in the cold and jumped rope 12 minutes.
Came back in asked if they needed anything and they didn’t so I went back to bed.
Woke up around 5 am and just puttered around organizing things and listening to them snore.
At 8am I broke the fast with oat bran and walnuts for 500 calories.

On Saturday I get 2000 for my BMR.
I put in the schedule like this.
    8am 500 calories
    12:30pm 500 calories
    5 pm 500 calories
9 pm 500 calories Saturday night
I won’t eat again until 12:01 am Monday morning

This puts two 27hr water fasts over the weekend so I can eat normally during the work week.
Since Wednesday is usually only 7 hrs long I take it as a 600 calorie day eating 300 when I go in and another 300 at lunch. I can make it a typical semi fast 5:2 style day.

Weighing in today at the gym
    From 274 march 2013
    Now 211 Feb 2015
This 4:3 offers me 5,400 in calorie restriction, and I exercise approx 2,000 calories worth a week .
I seem to be losing just under 2lbs a week.
What I’m finding doable is most of my meals on feed days are 500 of 2000 calories.
I get to 8600 calories a week so I’m not feeling deprived . However Im adapting to eating the healthiest foods that not only provide the macro nutrition , but also add health benefits. Im finding that I never run out an appetite for those healthiest foods. The hunger sorta makes me less fickle. So opening a can of skip jack and making a wasbi Lunch on feed days is finding it’s way into my fast days too.

At the 199lbs mark I’m going to seek the four day water fasting approach. Doing the blood work under a doctors care. It’s only 11 lbs away. So it’s a motivating short term goal. I’m hoping to reach 199lbs by April 1st shortly after a two week planned break late march. I want to stay on TDEE with no fasting during the planned break and see if I can maintain the 199lb weight. After that I try to work in the Igf-1 fasting approach. As I believe that may become something doable followed by 4:3 . I’m just guessing that after being obese for over twenty years. The igf1 approach may be only way I can think of increase the longevity. I’m also looking at the probiotic and immune system information that occurs with the 96hrs water fasting. That it also may be factors in longevity to rebuild gut flora from time to time. Hoping I can do the
96hrs water fasting 4 times a year just after the 4 planned breaks. In That way I can still keep working on the strength training for 13 weeks of the year. Even though it’s an overall plan… It still feels like a doable ten week fasting plan followed by two weeks of break. So I don’t feel overwhelmed or deprived.

    Hi Wee, WN, Samm,

Wee glad you had a good day with Dad once you got him out of bed!
I envy you very much. Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of my Dad’s passing and I still miss him lots. He was the same age as I am now ๐Ÿ™
The photos that Jojo took are the first I’ve seen of me after losing 4st, and I was very happy when I first looked at them! Jojo and Smiffy are looking great too, and we are all determined to get a move on and shift the remaining weight a.s.a.p.

    WN, I love scallops.

SAMM, I’ve taken a leaf out of your book and am changing things around to keep the weight loss going and get the most out of 5:2 by trying new healthy foods.

Amazon I thought you all looked brilliant pal .
I thank God every day for my lovely Dad . .
SAMM thanks pal for all the research results you post

    Wee xx

    Good evening Fasttrackers,
Lovely day with my son and more Japanese food for lunch. we trolled around Shepherds Bush and Westfield shopping centre. I bought a grey coat in the sale reduced to ยฃ20 from ยฃ50.

It was really nice but my feet are killing me now why is shopping more exhausting than walking around the park?

Going home tonight after dinner. My ex and my daughter have been to Harry Potter World this afternoon, they loved it, huge fans of HP.

Already looking forward to my next trip to London for my choral performance at Wembly in March.

    Hello all

We had a fantastic couple of days – Jojo and Amazon are lots of fun and Amazon organised our schedule so that we really enjoyed her part of London. I can’t add much to what has already been said except to say I am so lucky to have found this thread. We are all great mates now – where ever we are. So sorry the rest of you couldn’t have joined us. Maybe one day…….

That would be some party ๐Ÿ™‚

Morning all, hope everyone’s having a great time.

Nothing much happening here just yet so chilling before going to yet another party!!! Oh well, this is hopefully the last for a while ๐Ÿ˜€ gets too hard to say NO to so many things particularly when it’s offered directly to you by the hostess (even though I say just a smidgen I seem to get a big wedge of anything … almost feels like 1/4 of an item but I know it’s not, lol).

Chat more later … politics happen all around the world unfortunately. Politics look for the money they can get from (a) fast food chains and (b) diet industry where pills etc can be sold too.

Oh well, at least we don’t have to bother with all that Cr@p by utilising our skills with 5:2 ๐Ÿ˜€

Good evening All, just home and already in bed. Chinese take away for dinner, first one in over 1 year. Untold damage done to diet over the last three days, heaven help me. Not weighing in for a week as I need to fast seriously to make up for definite gains. Loads of exercise planned too.
Sadly got home, no pile of valentines on the mat, such is life !

    Good morning All,
Just getting ready for a bowls match today, no idea who I am playing with or against, ain’t life great? Just been watching ‘utube video’ of the moves I need to learn for choir.http://tinyurl.com/nnqvqz3 – sing and performing ‘Proud’. This would be a good song for your runners Ply.
I have decided to be very strict over the next week as I have quite a lot of event this month and next month so I must make an extra effort between each occasion. I am putting another alcohol ban on until my goal is reached, just too many calories wasted for me. I can live with a glass of wine or a gin and tonic. I visited a tea shop yesterday, tried some new tastes ‘Conga’ was interesting’. You can make your own flavours by mixing different flavour leaves. Strawberries and cream was good too, idea for the tennis Amazon.
My phone alarm just told me to get moving. My war paint is applied(makeup and nails) so off I go to take on those sexist old boys(HaHa).

A nice walk on the beach with the dogs later before heading for the gym to burn off some Japanese, Italian and Chinese food. Have a good Sunday friends.

Hello JoJo. Thank you for your inspiration. I am a year younger than you so when I read your postings they meant something to me. I started the 5:2 on New Years Day and on weighing myself this morning have lost a total of 10lb. I need to loose one more pound to be in the “normal” weight zone for my height and thus a “normal” BMI. I am 5ft 6″ tall and now 157lb. I would personally like to get to 147lb, well within the weight I should be. So half way there…happy to join you in your 2lb per week loss quest JoJo….and thanks again for your posts.

    Morning/evening all.

Damage limitation begins today with a FD, and I’m planning on 5 visits to the gym this week starting tomorrow.
I am determined to get back to losing 2lbs per week, and try to make up for not doing so yet this year, so am planning a strategy of B2B followed by a normal day then repeat for 15 days and see how successful that is in getting rid of a few lbs and getting me back on track.

Despite not losing much weight so far, I’m now on the 4th notch of the belt, so something is happening!

The forecast says dry and maybe some sunshine, so I’m going for a long brisk walk.

    Welcome Jules ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a good day/evening everyone.

    ‘Morning all

Good luck with the bowls Jojo – a flash of those nails will put them off their stroke!

I’m with you and Amazon – this cannot go on. After OH’s roast pork today (well how can I refuse when he goes to so much trouble? Lol!), it’s definitely back on the straight and narrow. Fasting tomorrow and Thursday, and 1200 cals on Tues, Weds and Fri. Yes I know I’ve said it before – but this time it has to happen! Not weighing till Tues – if the news was very bad I just know I’d throw in the towel!

Off for a good beach walk – have a good day/evening all.

    Hi everyone,

Amazon I think we all have the same affliction of impatience! 2lb is magic when it happens, but realistically its not going to happen every week …. life gets in the way! And isnt that what we all love about 5:2, that we can lose weight AND have a life? I guess it feels so wonderful to lose the weight, we all want it NOW!

Jojo I bet the Chinese was yum. We had fish & chips last night and I relished every mouthful. Sometimes (and this is just my theory/instict, no evidence) I think it helps to have an occasional big meal instead of eating like sparrows all the time. I think it gets the digestive process kick started. When I looked after extremely prem babies and the Mums breast milk was a bit slow, or they had respiratory problems and could only drink tiny amounts at a time, their digestive systems slowed right down and their Mum’s panicked thinking they were constipated. But once they could cope with a larger volume of milk, everything improved. One of the Neonatal consultants called it “Dumping” into their little tummies and kickstarting their metabolism/digestion. No evidence, just a feeling I have. After I have a splurge, the fasting seems more effective the next week or so. This sounds like I am looking for an excuse for a splurge!

Wee I have a mental picture of your husband chasing you with a hot iron, ouch!
    Cheers all x
