AO Bay and Nama Nicky and comespring thank you all so much a big day for him 80 years young in September what with a 4 hour car ride 1 hour wait for specialist 1 hour consultation which went well for him and the 4 hour return trip although he had cheeky little nap on the way home ๐ he is an amazing man full of stories and I never tire of hearing them which is a good thing Alzheimerโs ensure this I donโt mind the city driving with traffic and the traffic lights etc but it is always nice to be on the way out also only 4500 live in my town and no traffic lights at all Dadโs town 1500 so to be held up at a stop sign or give way sign is almost unheard of and bloody unbearable ๐ฏ you get my drift Iโm sure ๐
Peace RT
Oh no Jojo! I wouldn’t take away from Samm in the slightest! He absolutely deserves his kingship. ๐ ๐
I basically only joined the Fast Diet forum because I feel so strongly about spreading the word about what this wol can do for the scourge of Type 2 Diabetes. So many “experts” still tell diabetics and pre-diabetics that they MUST eat regularly or they will have bloodsugar problems. This is complete rubbish! It is the exact opposite. Fasting twice a week improves your insulun sensitivity so your body starts producing the correct amounts of insulin again to allow you to get off insulin injections and other diabetic drugs.
If you knew my OH, Jojo, you’d understand why he doesn’t post himself. Very shy ;). But often tells me what to say. He knows you all! ๐

Good morning all
..I am up early this morning . We got a painter in a few months ago to paint the staircase . It is really too high for me to reach now and not easy holding the brush for long with the RA. I have always done the papering and painting and I was so upset when I saw the bits he had missed . So our eldest is here this morning to go over it again for us .
RT I salute you pal . I too looked/look after my parents/Dad as you know . It will be my lovely Dads 97th tomorrow . We hope to be able to take him out to lunch ( if we can get him out of bed lol .
I did another liquid fast yesterday ( 30 calories) I want t keep the Alzheimer’s at bay as long as I can .
I was laughing at the big clothes chat lol . I am now wearing what I would have called my ” good clothes” in the house . My lovely Daughter in law” keeps telling me they are too big BUT I want a wee bit of wear out of them and I like to feel I’m dressed in my ” thinner” one when I go out lol .
I am sure you all understand what I mean ๐
have a lovely day everyone
Wee xx
Hi again everyone.
Purple I thought of you at the end of the Pilates class when I had to run to the ladies ๐
I really enjoyed the class. The girl at reception told me that the teacher is very strict and stern. I had a quick chat with her before the class which was good. She explains everything simply and if you get something wrong she tells you where you’ve gone astray and how to do it properly, no nonsense, no time wasting. I though she was great and will definitely be going again next week.
I did 30 mins on the treadmill and then came home as I was feeling tired.
Jojo, I’m not planning on going overboard either, but I am on a mission to get back to losing 2lbs per week so am doing as many fasts as I can cope with.
Over 7000 posts, this is a very populare thread considering it is full of losers ๐
I weighed myself this morning – I was dreading it since I have been ill and haven’t been exercising.
Buuut…I have lost 2.5 pounds!
Mental! Totally didn’t expect that!
That takes me to the end of my fourth or possibly fifth week fasting and I have lost about 16 – 17 pounds in all!
Pretty proud of myself at the moment.
I have a doctors appointment in a few hours that I am really, really worried about – but that isn’t anything to do with slimming, except I may be going into a food eating decline…
I know I don’t pop in often, but I always read up on you all – and you are doing so well! I hope I keep as up together as you!!
Good evening/morning all,
Another hot night here, much too hot to go to bed and apparently its only going to get down to 19 overnight, before 36 tomorrow! Not my favourite time of year, bring on Autumn!
RT your Dad is a lucky boy to have you. And about the nap in the car, he is a smart man, the car is my favourite place to nap! I miss my parents too, Dad got to 90 with every marble intact and I so miss the rituals we had, esp the last 10 yrs after Mum died. He was such a man of his generation, never complained about anything. We always went to the tennis together and watched Wimbledon and the US Open together in the wee hours. He was one of the few men that my old dog never growled at…. dogs know! Dad grew up in the bush and told great stories of his boyhood. He remembered cars coming to the Wimmera. As schoolboys, they would run to the school fence when they saw a cloud of dust coming, just to see the car coming!! (And now we are cursed with too many of them.) We also went to the ballet and the opera together, he always said he didnt know much about it, but he loved it! Madame Butterfly was always on the record player on a Saturday afternoon. Whilst he studied the formguide for the races! Sorry, you shouldnt have gotten me started RT!
While we are discussing blokes, Hi to Mr. Purple in Sydney, from Melbourne! Thankyou for being the Power Behind the Throne! Your wife speaks very highly of you.
Amazon I was thinking of your 25 metre pool this morning as I struggled up the 50 metre one! Its such a long way from one end to the next, and I have to time it that I dont get puffed out when out of my depth! Progress is slow but steady, I can now get half way without gasping. Initially it was about one quarter! My arms and legs are fine but the lungs need a lot of work! They are healthy but aerobically very unfit.
Back to the garden watering, despite lots of mulch it still needs a good soak every few days when its this hot.
Well done HH, losing any amount however big or small should be celebrated on this thread!
Nama, in a couple of months time when you are gracefully swimming from one end of the pool to the other without a care, you’ll remember how much you struggled to begin with and your chest will swell with pride.
Go girl, you can do it!
Morning fast friends wow I got a little misty reading all your kind words PVE both my sister and I are adopted dad reached over tapped my leg looked me in the eye and remarked that he was glad he picked me I was number one son I had nothing to offer except I was happy he picked me also comespring I like your vibe good karam I was not aware of this but I am now thank you weemam you are inspiring on so many levels your dad at 97 to have your love and care is a wonderful thing Jojo to have a parent make it into the 90s must be a fantastic buzz of walking talking history they have seen so much change in the world Nama you clearly had a close relationship with your dad and that is to be cherished good on you I often wonder how I would have been as a father if I had a daughter who also had 5 brothers y-fee wanted a daughter so much but I didnโt have the skills she would have kept going to you know but I drew a line in the sand at 3 so you can see who wears the pants at my place ๐ ok I need to get on my walk you have all touched me deeply today cyber friends Louis Armstrong what a wonderful world to start out with and cue the beatles please โall you need is loveโ the finale you all stay beautiful thankyou
Peace RT
Morning/evening all
Thanks Jojo. ๐ Back pats all ’round fts.
5 o’clock here and I’m wide awake. Thank goodness for my entertaining cyber friends when Mr Purple is away and I’m sleepless ๐
You’ll appreciate this, Jojo. I ran in to my daughter’s friend who has just started her first teaching job this month. I offered to give her my teaching resources as she has a Kinder/1/2 composite and most of my stuff covers those first 3 years. She gets hundreds of dollars of useful books. I get some space. Win, win. ๐
Good advice re swimming Jojo. Breathing out underwater and regularly changing strokes helps. It’s taken me a while to increase my freestyle laps again. Backstroke has become my fav. I love the rolling rhythm and the ease of breathing. Hate the bruised arms from hitting the wall, though. ๐ Nama, I am really surprised how much better my breathing is when I’m swimming now. It is possibly my biggest health gain. Don’t know if it is reduced fat around the ribs or more efficient cardio as I’m more active again? Well, I was until the sprained ankle and bee sting have reduced me to a cot case ๐
As Amazon says, keep it up Nama. It is amazing how quickly you improve. I’m very impressed with your fortitude ๐ P
EDIT: Hey RT! Our posts crossed ๐ You’re up with the birds mate! Lovely post. Teared me up. Have a good one my SA cyber buddy ๐
Morning/evening my fellow losers ๐
Having a bad week so far this week. Even though was meant to be a FD yesterday it turned into a semi-FD, not enough to mitigate last weekend ๐ but nevermind today is a new day and new beginnings. I will now need to do B2B today/tomorrow in the hope it brings me back into swing.
RT how lucky were you both that you were chosen by him and his wife, so special for you. I also reckon it would have been nice to have had a girl but I was also not in luck there so have 2 boys (well men now, lol).
So many posts since I went to bed so will only respond to a couple.
Wee having a painter for a hubby I understand your frustrations of having spots “missed” … he checks the paint job of wherever we are (can be a bit embarrassing at times ๐ ).
Would be nice to have access to a pool for swimming but there’s no local pool nearby and we don’t have one (only wading pools for the dogs).
Well done Jojo for completing the class I’ll only say please don’t overdo things again and hurt yourself!
Off to do my WiFit now before the day starts to heat up … chat later ๐
Well done, everyone, on taking care of business, whether it be family, food, or fitness! My exercise this week has been more shoveling! We got another 16-18 inches over the last couple of days. I am sore all over from bending, lifting, and throwing. This is the first time I remember having to shovel snow off a car, rather than brushing and scraping it off. Truly ridiculous, and we may have 2 more major storms on their way this week! Boston has broken all records for snow within a short period of time. Whoop-de-do!
Mom update: feeling almost back to herself! Staples come out tomorrow. Pathology report from the doctor shows no issues with cancerous cells in lymph nodes or anywhere else. So, a tough few days, but all good now! Thanks again for all your checking in and good wishes. I truly appreciated the support!
Great news about your mum Ply.
I hope that snow has all gone when we get to Boston in May. I’ve seen footage of it on tv. Truly staggering!
AO, another SA earlybird, have you thought of doing 16/8 on your feed days? Still do 2 proper fasts per week but delay eating every feed day until 11.30 or 12 if that can fit your timetable? Many maintenance folk use that technique. Simply get busy and pretend (mentally) that you’ve had breakfast. Mr Purple is staggered how effective it is on his bloodsugars if they have crept up a bit. Just skips breakfast and he’s back to normal. The 16 hour overnight fast gives you a mini fast that allows some extra fat burning. Sorry if you already do this. So hard to remember everyone’s regimes. Have a good hump day. Purple ๐
Hi Ply,
That is an extreme way of working out, but needs must. I hope the weather improves soon. I’m really pleased to hear that your Mum is doing so well, you must be very relieved.
We don’t get much snow in London, and have had all of one inch so far this winter, but until February is over there is still a chance. I can only remember really deep snow 2 or 3 times in the last 30 years, and when it happens the whole place comes to a halt because we aren’t used to it!
Hey PVE thank you for your suggestions I appreciate your concern and assistance … and yep I do that as minimum and do 23/1 on FD’s … never been one much for breakfast as in morning food, but love to lunch/break my fast around 1pm or later and eat by 8pm latest (usually around 6 to 7pm). I’ve just been a slacker this week is all and over indulged badly over the weekend and paying for it now ๐ not feeling sorry for myself just giving myself a swift kick – mentally – IYKWIM – and putting it out there that I need to get myself back into swing. Not looking forward to the scales this week but won’t delay as otherwise I’ll slack off. Mind you now I’m doing Wii Fit each day I get weighed daily whether I want/mean to or not. I finally completed 30 minutes continuous exercise/balance things today … usually I’ve had a few minutes break between activities but today went straight from one to another (trying some of the more challenging balance items too rather than the games doing the “real thing” today too). I enjoy the step ones and will move on to other more extended Wii programs (including Zumba) as I get fitter and more flexible. I have several exercising/sports programs for Wii from years ago (when I first went back on it’d been over 1,000 days since it had last been used … eldest grandson used my profile and so it said I’d put on a stack of weight, lol, but after a while it does reset and use my own weight lol plus my own challenges for weight loss on a fortnightly basis.
Top work Aussie!
I moved our Wii to a different telly and can’t make it work so I have the step set up and use it when just watching tv ๐ I also sit on the fitness ball to watch tv, rotating my hips etc. I hope every little bit helps. Got to sort the cloudy water in the pool today..despite daily maintenance, .heavy rain, hot/cold weather, dirt from nearby construction work and a huge load of tree rubbish (leaves, gum nuts, lillipilli blossum) is playing havoc this year. ๐ P
RT – loved your post.
Nama, what an achievement swimming lengths when you haven’t done this before. ๐
Ply, glad to hear about your Mum.
Wee, as an amateur painter of walls, I get annoyed with professionals who do a slapdash job. I think to myself, I could have done as well as that. ๐ฏ
Cheers, all Bay ๐
Good morning fellow losers ๐ To quote RT, you know who you are.
Ply, so good to hear your mum is doing well… and there’s nothing like real work for aerobic and muscle building exercise. After all most of our parents were much more physical in their daily lives than we are and most were fairly slim, despite all the dripping sangers, desserts every night and all the rest. The nearest I come to it begins next month when we start to lay in our firewood store. One of the perks of working where I do is firewood at $25/trailer load. It’s usually in quite big pieces, even rounds sometimes, so OH and I chop it, load the trailer then unload and stack when we get home. Such a virtuous feeling to see the winter supply packed away before the autumn rain starts and all that exercise too.
Jojo, well done with sticking at the 20/20/20 – sounds like really hard work.
… and Nama, well done with persevering with the swimming. Even though like most Aussies I learned to swim as a kid, I was never very good and it always seemed like ‘staying alive in the water’, rather than being enjoyable, except for snorkelling. Then at Qld Uni where I worked before moving back to Adelaide they had a 50m heated pool so a colleague, who had been a swimming instructor, took me on. I knew I had finally cracked it when I caught myself thinking about something else half-way down a lap. After that swimming was such a pleasure – very zen in the early morning with the sun shining through the water vapour which had collected in the cool air. Sadly, no pools within reasonable distance here but will resume after I retire and can afford the extra travelling time.
RT glad to hear your trip went well. My OH always sleeps in the car (also planes, trains, anywhere really), a skill I admire but mostly don’t have.
AO, sorry your FD plans fell into a heap. Of course you know that today is a fresh start, like the rest of us.
Amazon, how dedicated to get up early for Pilates. At least for a while after I retire, I’m also going to retire the alarm clock.
Wee, Bay and AO, like you I too get annoyed with sloppy painting tradies. My dad was a painter and decorator and he instilled very high standards in me. The line I always remember is that you should take extra care when painting the back of the dunny door because it gets more scrutiny than anywhere else ๐
Two good FDs under my belt and the scales down 1.7kg from Monday morning. Each day included 20hr fasting window. Looking forward to breaking my fast (18hrs) with egg salad lunch. Another FD tomorrow at TAFE – should be so busy food won’t get a thought.
Hi Purple, hope Mr Purple has a good trip.
Happy hump day everyone and keep up the good work. n.
Hmmm, not sure my parents were very physically active…the reason they had five kids was so they could make us do all the manual labor!
Nicky, you sent me to Google once again to look up “dripping sangers.” Finally figured it out, (sangers = sarnies = sandwiches! yes?), but not before I got some TMI from the Urban Dictionary!
Hello everyone,,
having my breakfast coffee under a nice shady tree in the back yard, thinking of you and all that snow Ply, such a contrast to here! Pleased for you and your Mum re her good progress, wonderful that her outcomes look so good. Mmm… a sausage sanger would be yum with this coffee!
Thankyou all so much for all the encouragement re my swimming. The reason it appeals, apart from a genuine love of being in the water, is that its so easy to measure progress in laps! My “OCD” coming out! I look forward to a Zen like state Nicky! If you ever retire you will enjoy getting back to swimming, esp with the lack of weight bearing, my knees thank me! Though I wonder if you ever will retire, fancy taking on new/extra hours, very impressed!
Thanks for the suggestions Jojo. I think my technique is fine re breathing etc and yes I did get goggles. As Purple says, all Aussie kids were taught to swim properly in the 1950s, a big part of our culture still. I saw a gorgeous group of primary aged girls at the (public) pool yesterday and smiled at how much our culture has broadened though, they were such a mixture of nationalities. Even one in a full length (moslem) coverall bathing outfit, she was very beautiful and looked very cute and was completely unselfconscious. Why cant everyone be as tolerant as kids?
AO sorry you are not having the best week, isnt it lovely though to share on this understanding thread? And to always get the right advice to think about from one of the many wise folks on here!
Cheers all x
Morning/evening all.
My body knows it did a Pilates class yesterday!
Nothing that a session in the gym and a swim won’t cure ๐
Dull, dark and grey this morning.
I ought to improve my swimming style and I can only do breaststroke and backstroke, I guess now would be a good time to start, but I’ll need some goggles.
My brother could do butterfly and he said it was the most difficult thing he had ever tried, he just had to go full pelt for a whole length as if he slowed down he sank ๐
Have a good/day evening everyone.
If these beautiful women are plus size, where does that leave those of us with a few more kilos to lose? Geez, I hate this sizeist world.

Hi Hermaj
Good to hear from you. It’s nice to know you’re out there. ๐ I hope all is well with you.
I’ve just finished my second fast day this week and feeling good. ๐ I lasted 20 hours on water and one cup of black coffee. ๐ฎ I told Purple months ago that I could never last all day. How wrong I was. Dinner was delicious, salmon, broccolini, tomato.
Cheers, Bay ๐
Hello hermaj!
Great to see you still raging against the unfairness of this world! Laura is gorgeous isnt she? I personally would love her eyebrows…
You are so right, far too much pressure on women to conform to a particular size, even if a lot of that pressure comes from within themselves. They absorb it by osmosis growing up. I just found out that a very trim and very bright young lady I know has been keeping her shape by using “diet pills” from Thailand!! I expressed my horror in no uncertain terms.
