  • Ok Fran and Deelite, you have convinced me, I will try Zumba when I hit 12 stone, I should be able to juggle that much body quickly. Are there any ‘chubbies’ in your classes or are they all super fit?

Has anyone tried metafit, full on high intensive classes for 20 mins three times per week. It’s on my agenda for 2015. Definately high impact so I am strengthening and stretching in preparation. I may try to get a DVD first so I can do it slower and carefully. Classes do become competitive, it’s the biggest problem with them. They really need three month introductory sessions. I am going to run rather than walk up steps from now on, holding the banister for safety.

New clothes sound good, I bought some lime green shorts last week, just for the garden but cute.

Fran, I wasn’t tired at all after my steps because they were spread out over the whole day. Let’s see what today brings?

I believe swimming is the best therapy, doing different strokes for an hour up and down the pool really builds stamina and muscle safely, doesn’t help with weight loss, even if done daily, hair and nails suffer if not protected too. Great for waistline though, swimmers always have the best shape.

    Hey Guys,
    Just found a new exercise
Plyometric – done using a small trampet, see u tube, looks great. Off to buy a trampet right now. I know some of you already have them, enjoy

    Hello everyone!
Just checking in. I’ve been keeping up with your posts, lots of interesting topics being discussed and lots of motivation!
That’s me done 2 weeks of 4:3 now and here are the results of my weigh-in this morning…

    Starting weight: 11st 12lbs
    Weight last week: 11st 7lbs
    Current weight: 11st 6lbs
Weight loss this week: -1lb 😀
    Total weight loss: 6lbs
Goal: 11st 3lbs by 4th July (my birthday)

So pleased the scales have shifted finally after 6 weeks of no change! Think 4:3 has done the trick, along with my ramped up exercise routine. Also I think running shorter distances is better for weight loss (less cortisol produced which leads to fat retention in belly area). Low stress running is the way forward!
Other changes I’ve made are to give up alcohol and bread (almost). Have bread maybe once a week and really notice how much it makes me bloat! Crazy that I used to eat it every day.

Anyway, I am happy that my hard work has started to pay off! 😀
    Happy Friday fasters!!
    Amy xxx

Fasting again today, so far so good. Was 1lb up this morning (I mean still 53kgwith my cheat :p) but I think it is water retention because I just started that time of the month. So it should come off soon.

Jojo good luck with 20,000 steps!! Actually looking at your plan for the day, you should make that easy! Oh and also I have a cheat for the mirror too! I put a picture of Heidi klum there for motivation haha.

    Hi Amzta,
    Welcome to our thread.
Yeah we are upbeat and motivated here. Nothing is impossible here, just may need tweeking to suit individual needs. You have made great progress so far, well done with the bread and alcohol bam, I have been doing it since January. Six months later still alive and kicking, kicking higher and with more ease actually. I do have bread when we go out for a meal but alcohol is until year end, possibly for good, I don’t need it or want it, so no issues for me.
Tell us more about your life, do you work? Married ? Keep a pet crocodile?
What exercise do you do apart from running?
What type of foods do you usually eat.
We share lots here because it can prompt others to try so etching new.

Half way there on the steps, phew it’s hot out there. Just lugged my food shopping and a size 4 set of 4 bowls plus two dogs one and half miles up hill, I now have one arm an inch longer than the other. Couldn’t resist the bargain price of £30.00 from the charity shop, they are in very good condition and my ex needs a lighter weight set of bowls. This will cost him lunch for sure.

Dog hopping along, on the mend poor chap.

    Speak later

    Deelite
I bet you were a really naughty girl at school, honestly such a tinker. Just looking to buy a suitable candidate for my mirror.

    Hi Jojo

Don’t think I could give up alcohol forever, I admire your commitment! Looking forward to some lovely wine on my birthday in a few weeks! But happy to do without it until then.

I live in Edinburgh and I’m a Customer Account Manager for a digital print company. I’m 23 and have a lovely boyfriend who doesn’t understand how I can survive on 500cals on fast days – he hates to miss a meal but is one of those lucky people that is naturally slim.

I run 3x a week, do an ab workout with squats every day and have Pilates class every Monday. I fast Mon, Weds & Thurs and always find the 3rd day the easiest! My recent discoveries have been pickles and jalapenos both really low cal but stave off hunger amazingly!

    xx

Congrats, all, on your weight loss! I wish I could join you in a good scales report, but it will come, I have no doubt. I am still hovering around the 25 pound loss mark. My clothes continue to loosen…I had to get rid of my favorite undies yesterday because they are falling down! No fresh comments, @samm!

Good luck with the steps, Jojo! You don’t need luck truly, we all know you will get there because you have decided to do so! I usually get between 16,000 and 17,000 steps when I shoot for 15,000.

Another welcome to you, Amzta! Congrats on your success thus far. I am blessed (plagued) with a naturally slim partner as well, though as he went through his 40s has developed a bit of a belly!

@franfit, I have been coveting Ottolenghi’s cookbook for some time, and will probably buy it soon so I can use some of my free time this summer trying new recipes. We can compare notes as we go.

I am excited about having time to try new exercise routines as well! Pilates is definitely on my schedule. I will check out Plyometrics as well, @jojo!

Family party tonight, will add a fast day tomorrow. Hoping for a beach day Sunday. No bikini for me, Jojo, but it has gotten to the point where I look at women wearing them and think, “I am as thin, or thinner, than she is!” Maybe later in the summer…it’s been awhile since I braved a two-piece!

    Happy weekend, all! xox

    Good morning, fast trackers 🙂

amzta, I agree about hot peppers, they are great. Did you know that eating them causes the brain to release endorphins? That’s why some people get addicted to them! But, there’s nothing wrong with eating them, they are chock full of great nutrients, and nothing terrible happens to your endorphin system. Try a few sometime when you’re depressed and see if your mood improves. Congratulations on getting that scale to move 🙂

I don’t drink alcohol, haven’t for many years. It makes life much easier in many ways. Bread has become a rare event in my life. Even whole grain bread is *so* glycemic.

jojo, so glad your dog is on the mend. I think he might indeed do better with you changing his dressing than with the vet doing it. Very glad you’re giving the lifestyle coach the boot. Too exasperating. Super-impressed with you carrying all that stuff uphill! You are far, far more active than I’m able to be. I think you will enjoy Zumba if the classes where you are are similar to what I’ve seen here. Very non-competitive. Some classes of mostly teens and twenty-somethings might be more competitive, look for a middle-aged bunch. Or start with Zumba Gold to learn the basic steps at half speed and intensity, then move up. Most of the women in my class are average weight, fit arms and legs, some extra weight in the middle. One very thin woman, one quite heavy. I am going to hold off on anything on a trampoline until my balance improves. Don’t want any accidents. Swimming is fantastic exercise, but I can’t tolerate the chlorine, no lakes for swimming in around here, the ocean a bit far. Thinking about getting a combo exercise bike/cross-trainer for in front of the TV for when the weather gets really hot, since doing HIT on the staircase bothered my knee. My son needs to do cardio, too, and can’t stand for anyone (except me) seeing him exercise. He is extremely shy and self-conscious.

My favorite clothing purchase yesterday is a white denim jeans jacket that’s both stretchy and soft. I would like to do a bit of embroidery on the collar, I think. Also got a white windbreaker/summer rain jacket with a bright pink zipper. All of my outerwear was huge, now that I’m at goal I can start to replace it, give away the too-large stuff as I acquire new. Bought something I have actually never worn before, two striped tops. Usually don’t wear because of large bust, but these stripes somehow don’t sag and droop or take off at crazy angles. One black-and-white, one bright orange-and-white. They were on sale, three tops for $24US (I also got a plain black scoop-neck). My kind of price. Paid full price only for the denim jacket, I had been looking for something just like it and it was perfect.

It still feels totally weird to not be doing at least a second fasting day this week, but, still at the lower end of my maintenance range, so, no fasting for me today!

jojo, I forgot to mention (I have a memory like a sieve), I think it’s good if you’re getting hormones/metabolism checked. The amount of caloric and carb restriction that you have to do in order to lose weight seems out of the ordinary. I don’t know if it’s insulin or thyroid or cortisol or something else (because you don’t seem to have obvious signs of thyroid deficiency or cortisol excess), but it does seem to me like there must be some reason for it. Even if there’s no pill to fix it, if it was me, I would feel better just knowing the explanation.

deelite, I bet that extra pound is water, that’s what can go on so quickly. Love your sense of humor 🙂

ply, I went through three sizes of undies these past few months, seemed like I was buying new undies every month, lol! Jeans down to 2s and 4s from 12s, I had to buy a couple in each size along the way or they’d be falling off me! Still wearing a couple of 6s with a belt until I can afford all new duds. It’s a process. I’m sure the number on the scale will move for you soon if clothes are continuing to loosen — especially with underwear falling down!

Not ordering cookbooks this week, bought new clothes instead, lol. Soon, though.

Ply, you should definitely get yourself into a bikini this summer! Show off your hard work!

For the record everyone I was a good girl at school 😉 hahah @jojo

I have eaten within 500-600 calories today for my fast, but I have eaten at regular intervals so I don’t really know if this counts as a fast?

    deelite:

It is the calorie restriction that counts for weight loss: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/52-calorie-restriction-v-fasting-for-newbies/

    An easy question!

Yes its a fast. Or it could be said it’s a calorie restiction day. For IF intermittent fasting. It starts when you wake up and ends when wake up the next day. You dont have to have any calories, but its suggested no t to consume more than 500-600. Their your calories to enjoy any which way want!

I like mini sweet peppers because they extremely good in nutrients and try to stuff them with more nutrients that I like sooooo much that Im also sated.

I tend to overthink stuff. I tried to create 2 meals per day that met 100% nutrition. In 500 calories or less.

Thats the genius of 5:2 it can be doable 100% nutrition that invites a lifestyle for longevity. I tweaked to work for me in a way that I didnt get hunger pangs for 4 weeks on 4:3. I still went to all could eat buffet on sundays, but that the other 3 days were healthy foods instead of just piggin out days.

I also included fish days. Which changed my appetite also.
I also like to downsize favorites into portions of 250 -300 cals. Two meals. 12pm and 5pm is my preference.

If anyone else knows how to live longer , by any other means. By all means let me know! I want to hear about it even without references.

IF 4:3 , and ADF are the only ways I know of to increase longevity . How odd I find it that it isnt hard and in myopinion. It doesnt gave to be perfect on day 1 . But its something that once you master can pick up easily where you left off. How cool is that!

in other words you can eat what you love and live longer and maybe get thiner. Ill take 2 for 500 thanks
    Ok going back to sleep

    Woke up again .

calorie restriction. Doesnt mean flavor restriction.

look forward to to your food choices and it will be a lifelong experience. If you dont like what you’re fasting day had on the menu. Some of the weight loss may just be 1 swing of the yoyo diet.

    rolling back over -zzz

    dreaming

dang@ I was dreaming about fasting again

    now that im up

im going to the vegetable market down the road to get some cauliflower and broccoli.

But I have a hankering for red pepper stuffed with chili and sliced almonds

    Good evening fast trackers,

Great day, loved my new sun lounger, very comfy.

Sitting on my sofa now, sewing, enjoying my quiet time. Managed to do 20,213 steps today, not too difficult, not tired as basically did it in three bouts.

Franfit – I had a full set of tests completed last October, they found no abnormalities. My low metabolic rate is probably down to 30 years of yoyo dieting. I have accepted that I will never be able to eat a normal level of calories for my activity level. I have seen nutritionalists, dietitians, doctors, acupuncturists and doctors, none have been able to help. I am not worried, I am used to it, I am sure there are others in my situation or worse. More importantly I am fit and healthy and plan to stay that way. Your shopping trip sounds fun, I can’t wait for my long gold dress to arrive but I am a bit worried, my friends costume doesn’t fit on the bust and she is quite flat chested, we don’t have time to get another one.

SAMM, secret to long life – supportive family, plenty of exercise, sleep and fresh food not processed rubbish. I am sure you know the statistics that men live longer if married( or does it just seem longer) teehee. Women of course live longer than men, because the look after themselves better( on the whole) and are not as keen on risk taking( generally)

Deelite, I fasted for four months by having three meals, now I just have water and hot drinks for 24 hours. Gets easier the longer you fast. Drink plenty.

Ply – why can’t you wear a bikini, you are nearly at goal are you not? Go girl, sock it to them. I will be there next year.

It’s 11 pm, time for bed. Long day planned tomorrow. Bowls, choir performance and my son is visiting, he lives in London with his girlfriend.

thanks Samm and sim. That information does make a lot of sense but I wasn’t sure.

Well last night was really, nice. I went down to the lake with my too friends as the weather was still nice! 8pm and still 27degrees! Had a little swim too. Great relaxing Friday night. Today we have 4 shows and possibly too parades so I’m going to wear my fitness tracker.

My weight this week is 55.1 kg
    Last week, 55.1kg
    The week before that 55.1kg

Any one have an ideas how I can kick it up a gear?

But I would like to say that my weight is more consistent now that before and always stays around this mark. ( but never been under)

    Hi deelite
im on mobile not easy to scroll through the thread.

    What is your goal weight?
How many lbs do want to lose?

    What is your fitness level?

Are you able to jump rope? For H.I.I.T
How much walking can you do after your last meal of the day?

I believe many of us on this thread are trying to have a lifestyle that enables 8lbs a month. Wether we lose8 lbs or not isnt as important as being active.

my personal approach is make a weekly plan for seven days.
I calculate the amount of calories over 7 days
I simply drop ut by 1000 calories to avoid overestimation.
    I assume 1lb is 3,400 calories.

    to lose 2 lbs
for me being realistic to my doable exercise and food intake is key.

Im on a break for now, so ill say I used to make a 1 week plan to use 2500 calories of exercise per week. And 4,300 calories of calorie restriction .
    6800 calories = 2lbs

    I pratced 4:3 mon,wedn, friday.
Tuesday thursdsy and saturday I jumped rope after every meal. Mainly because I had more energy. Spending only 10 minutes per set. Actually I cant get to 10 minutes of skipping yet. But I keep doing jumping jacks when I get winded.

On the weekend I try to do lifting . But on fast days walkin before eating . So if the walking made me famished. I could eat a little 250.

I really tried to fill up and achieve the full feeling wirh my fasting meals
by including 15 red kidney beans. I also became sensitive to tbe full feeling.
So I choose 2 meals on fasting days .try to feel full at noon. Would last till almost 4 . Take a walk. Before eating agian at 5pm. This time eating catfish which has the same enzyme fir the full feeling. I wouldnt get hungry again till8-9 I would simply go to bed when I got really hungry.
I would try to eat healthy on non fast breakfasts.

So looking over the whole week.
the amount of time I woyld feel hungry.
    9 hours.

since march of 2013 ive lost and kept off 40lbs

id have to say the calorie restriction is what is most resposible , but the exercise seems effe t my weight like two steps forward, then if I fail on the diet is like 1 step back.

I might put this on my daughters mirror.
    http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Luf3O4Lkvbw/Tq7FFGeBxrI/AAAAAAAAAak/RuyLv2eLd50/s1600/eee.jpg

    20000 steps. Wow good work.

asking for every one to check their selenium intake. If not eating fortified foods or supplements. Meat is a great source. But if not eating much meat. Try to put a half a brazil nut in diet daily. Dont worry their cheap 1 bag for 6 bucks lasts me 3 months. I could eat a whole one but id have just go buy more often.

The brazil nut is off the chart compared to other foods for selinium. But the nut is toxic if your eating loads everyday.

I use cbt for child issues if they arent my kids.
When time and space doesnt work. The parents need to come deal with it infront of me or were stragers from then on. I really dont understand children having no boundries or appropriate consequinces .

basically if a toddler gorilla is jumping up and down what would moma gorilla do? Smack his ass down.

humans arent much different. Just a matter of knowing what with shut their mouths till their calm and can make better decisions. If their disruptive to themselves and others. They are not In trouble but have to explain what they will do differently. Before rejoining the group

jojo, good for you doing 20,000 steps! I’m glad you had all that testing done, sorry there were no answers there for you. It looks like the usual weight-loss methods that only lead to regaining the weight really are very destructive.

I would like to report that, so far, maintaining my weight loss from 5:2 is going amazingly well. I am eating what I want at three meals a day, some days one small snack as well, and staying the same weight. Amazing! I really expected more of a struggle. Looks like my strategy of using the non-fasting days as days to practice eating the number of calories I would need to maintain at goal weight in a way that’s satisfying for me is paying off. Now I just need to make sure that I can still fast one day a week for the health benefits without losing more weight. Fasting day tentatively planned for Monday, I will now be working Sunday afternoons and part of the job will be eating lunch with my clients. If Monday does not work, will have to move fasting day to Wednesday.

jojo, thank you for this thread where I can obsess about the details like this!

deelite, I think SAMM’s suggestions about calculating calories for 7 days and how to cut out 3500-7000 of them is a good idea, especially with the kind of performance schedule you have, you can plan what days you need more calories to keep going and plan extra fasting days around that, also I think he’s onto something with exercising a bit right after meals. So I second those ideas for stepping things up. The other thing I would say is that the smaller you are, the less body fat you have, the harder it is to lose anything. My last few pounds were more than twice as hard to take off as my first few pounds. So it’s worthwhile to keep working at it. If cutting more calories and upping activity level even more doesn’t do it, the next step, I think, would be to look at carb restriction, do something like the Induction Phase of New Atkins for two weeks and see if that doesn’t make the scales budge off 55 kg.

Great to hear that maintenance is going well, Franfit! I dream of joining you there!

Okay, thanks Samm and franfit, I’m going to make a plan tonight.

    I want to lose2kg, so…4lbs

I have an active lifestyle, I skate 2 hours a day, and then we have a parade which is a 30 walk. I walk to and from work, to the grocery store and to the gym.
I go to the gym usually 3 times a week and mainly do cardio and then an ab workout. I build muscle pretty easily so I don’t do weights.
On fast days I have been skipping breakfast sometimes taking the salad at lunch or skipping that, too and eating dinner.

I will definitely add walking after dinner into my plan and maybe even doing some kind of exercise in the morning on non fast days before breakfast.

I’m also going to make the plan using 4:3

Sometimes I miss a post or two, before I can get back on tablet.

    JoJo
I’m befuddled as to why a fitness coach, would go so against the grain on fasting. I mean to say semi fasting? You’re still getting 500 calories yes? Of mostly nutrition dense foods!

You’ve said many times you not into lifting, so I can’t figure out where the issue is. Most of you weight loss is due calorie restriction, and the activity is for keeping fats at lower rate in the blood stream, the walking. I’m curious as to what he’ll think will happen ? I mean you eat almonds still , which are very fat. So reading you’re posts I’m just trying to understand what exactly they are worried about?
Weird that they want their way to work for everyone!

If you were on a island at sea , you would probably be just as active as you are now, but searching for food instead of enjoying activities. Perhaps this has already been resolved by you.

to Franfit: thanks for your nice note on the LOCA page….I do want to stop in to say hi and get inspired by all the great work the ladies on this page are doing.

Reading with great interest the issues you are raising about the sad lack of any widespread understanding about metabolism and weight management. It is rather amazing that with so much good info on the harm that excess carb intake can do and the terrible increase in obesity we have seen across the industrialized world that they still don’t “get it”.

JoJo: congratulations on your 12 lb loss since April. That is wonderful. But it sounds like your big accomplishment is the fabulous shape you have gotten yourself in. Hats off to you. Wow.

to simcoeluv: you post such terrific links….such great information. I spent the better part of yesterday reading the info from the “IF impacting/curing diabetes”. Pretty fabulous stuff. I had seen some of Michael’s videos before but never the US one and found the points made there pretty compelling. Thank you so much for sharing.

Good evening FastTrackers, actually it good morning because it is 2.20 am.

I stayed up late to finished my embroidery for next week. I know I will be too busy so I decided to push through and get it done. It looks amazing, I hope she appreciates the work, more importantly my sacrifice in being tied to a chair instead of out getting exercise. I hope it doesn’t affect the scales next week. Only 8407 steps today, sorry but I can’t sew and walk, I did try, disaster.

My choir performance went well today, but they cut short our time which was annoying. There were some solo pieces included which were not a patch on what we could perform, a very dreary poem about World War One and two male singers who were not very impressive.

I did manage to get out to do a dog walk this morning and do some bowls practise for an hour so it hasn’t been all sitting about today. I may swim and play bowls tomorrow, nothing else planned. I need to get to bed now, I have a book to read by Wednesday.

    Final comment.
SAMM – I wish I could tell you ‘active lifestyle coaches’ treat you as individuals but they don’t, it’s one rule for everyone. It’s 20 % protein, 30% carbs(bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, noodles), 10% fat, the rest is veg and low calorie fruit. Because I only have porridge and now one small potato I am not meeting guidelines. Apparently carbs are the fuel for muscle building. Actually I don’t particularly want any more muscle, I am strong and am content to keep those I have toned. I have proven that carbs cause weight gain for me- it’s a fact. Bread is a real red light food for me, I can’t resist it so I don’t buy it. If I eat it, it causes bloating – madness really, I need to listen to my own body. Never been fussed about other carbs but I like potato and it doesn’t seem to cause side effects.

    Night all
Hope you are all having a great weekend

Have seen a number of you posting regarding your frustration at balancing a vegetarian lifestyle with fasting and trying to keep low carb.

You all may have seen this website already but just in case:

    http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives.html

Done by Heidi Swanson who develops her own vegetarian recipes but also frequently posts vegetarian recipes from other cookbook writers. Her photography is gorgeous. Everthing looks both healthy and enticing. Lots of her stuff has beans and whole grains, but there are lots that don’t. I have been making her Simple Tomato Soup over and over lately. Really lovely with a bit of curry and onions sauteed in coconut oil (I do not put the optional spoon of brown rice in at the end).

    http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/a-simple-tomato-soup-recipe.html

I find I like soups or even just some broth on fast days….seems to appease my stomoch.

    Anyway

    Good evening fast trackers,

deelite, sounds like a good plan, I think 4:3 is a good idea at this point, I did it for my last couple of weeks of losing weight. I hope this works out well for you 🙂

LUVTCOOK, thank you for the link, it does look like there are a lot of good recipes there.

SAMM, the Brazil nut tip is a good one.

jojo, who exactly are these active lifestyle coaches anyway, and why should anyone meet their guidelines? Only 10% fat? Really???? OK maybe the traditional starchy foods are at 30%, but if protein is 20% and fat 10%, then the other 70% has to be from carbs (unless they save a percentage of calories for alcohol!)! That’s completely and totally insane! It doesn’t matter if the carbs come from veg and low-sugar fruits, they’re still carbs! That’s actually the highest-carb diet I’ve ever heard of, the highest I ever heard of before was 65%. And if they don’t individualize, then why even have a person do it? A computer program could do as well. Oh, wait. Maybe the computer program would actually individualize something!

All right. End of rant. Got to get to sleep, up and to work early in the AM.

Hey Jojo- I like bread to but I don’t eat a lot of it. But I didn’t find this bread the other day call protein bread and it’s actually low carb and high protein. It’s 14g protein and 4g carb ore slice. It’s really quite a dense texture. It is 150cal a slice but on non fast days I sometimes take 1 slice and spread avocado on it. Does a good snack!

Good news this morning ^_^ I lost 1lb (1/2kg). So I was 54.6kg this morning! Woohoo. Little victories 🙂 yesterday was a very tiring day though. I had 31000 steps, 85 active minutes and burnt almost 3000calories

No wonder I over slept this morning! Haha

    Morning again All,
Welcome back LUVTCOOK, really missed you.
Deelite, that bread sounds good but I would eat the whole loaf in one sitting.

Just set up a diet for my daughter, she lost 2 kilo this week, she is thrilled. After six month of 5:2 with little success, I am so happy for her.

Off to lunch now but be in touch this eve
Have a great day and keep sharing

jojo, wonderful results for your daughter! What made the difference?

Off to work myself, beautiful day here today 🙂

    Nutrition density by food category.

    And

    http://www.lowgihealth.com.au/glycemic-index-list-of-foods/

old school way without cheat sheet.
“The glycemic load applies the glycemic index to the amount of food you’re actually going to eat, or to the total amount of carbohydrate-containing foods in a meal or snack. To calculate the glycemic load (GL), multiply the glycemic index (GI) of a food by the amount of carbohydrates in the food and then divide by 100. For example, 1 cup of watermelon has a GI of 72 and contains 10 grams of carbohydrates. 72 × 10 = 720, and 720 ÷ 100 = 7, the glycemic load of 1 cup of watermelon. If you eat two cups of watermelon, use this calculation: 72 × 20 = 1,440; 1,440 ÷ 100 = a GL of 14.”

    Soups sound great luv2cook.

Do you have suggestions for sweet potato soup?
I’m thinking celery flakes, onion, peas and carrots with sliced almonds.
    With thick dandelion tea.

    What I’ll probably do is
dump can generic mixed vegetables 69 cents
Cut up 1 medium sweet potato
Boil skinless chicken legs. 4zinc & Skim out the fat.
Celery flakes and onion powder to taste.

Since I can’t seem to get my family on my band wagon. Maybe I’ll try to let the food speak for itself.
Glad to have read your soup suggestion, because I can stick to a routine . So I may put soup in the routine , but adding protein will be the variable not the whole meal.

I’ve been thinking on soups for lunches Saturday and Sunday as routine.

SAMM see if this appeals to you curried sweet potato soup with coconut milk (love to use coconut milk as it has great health benefits and I love the taste). I don’t eat a ton of curry but you can’t beat it for quick and easy impact.

    Was reading on zinc again.

Trying not to be a bugger BUT
This is from the zinc wiki

Since fasting is similar in ways to to appetite and low food intake this passage just speaks to me.

    Hunger[edit]
The influence of zinc on hunger is complex and probably depends upon the status of other nutrients, the developmental stage of the animal, and percentage body fat. Some research groups have argued for a role of zinc deficiency decreasing appetite, while others have shown zinc ingestion can reduce feelings of hunger by increasing leptin levels. There is evidence that the way zinc influences hunger depends on the sodium/osmotic status of the organism, with low sodium/low zinc levels increasing hunger and high sodium/low zinc levels decreasing it. An organism with a low level of zinc has an increased susceptibility to hypoosmotic stress and cell rupture. Thus if the osmotic pressure is too low the organism may be inclined to eat to raise osmolality and prevent osmotic shock. It should be noted that zinc is known to affect osmolality by increasing sodium retention. In rats, the “first visible sign” of zinc deficiency is a decreased appetite.[25]

I use red kidney beans and catfish. Not for zinc, but I eat on non fast days in way as to keep a strong appetite. For personal reason – meaning I may be wrong. But what I tried to mange was my hunger.
Seeing now zinc could be a variable in my hunger management.
    But also for eating disorders.

Currently I’m back to 1750 calories a day and a lot of walking. I take a multiple vitamin. I’m using every morning as a test for foods that effect my sugar lvls. By September I’ll be ready to focus strictly of fat again. I’m also being more social with lifting buddies. It was nice to have one of the comment on my weightloss. Losing weight slowly doesn’t get as much fanfare, but it’s nice to hear it come out of the blue in a conversation with friends .

Just thinking about the formula of jojo’s coach. I suppose it’s ok. But see no reason 2-3 fasts a week could occur
Yb dropping the non vegetable carbs2-3 times a week. I would advocate going on carb fast every 14 days just to prime fat loss.
Bleeh I’m just going on and on.

Looking in hind sight to see what have learned and what will make the biggest difference when I start fading again, beside the diabetes issues.

    Hunger management was key factor.
At one point in time I was “jonny on the spot” or “spot o making a menu that predicted how hungry I would be. My fist attempt. Created 16 hours of hunger hours out 168 per 7seven day cycle.
I did achieve 0/168 hunger and is when I lost the most weight,
I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was cheating on the menu. By eating asparagus as my stave off of choice. Just 1 stalk cut into fourths drinking with mango vitamin enhanced water zero Calorie.

I’m testing these menu items to see how they fit into my diabetic condition now.
I’m finding that oat bran makes me surge , but I can skip carbs the rest of the day.
Adding raw pumpkin and heavy on cinnamon, sweeten with stevia makes for worry free days.
Fish for dinner combined with pro muscle foods . I’m just really starting to want get back into strength training. So it’s different direction looking to have a plate of fat and protein. And lots and lots of water.

    Hi LUVtCOOK,

I made that tomato soup for tea, it was delicious. Great to have you recommending food for us. Yes I tried to do vegetarian food this month but gave up the battle. I just don’t have the recipe knowledge and am too busy to learn at the moment. Very busy term. I will give it another go post retirement.

Thanks for your good wishes, things are going well 43 lbs in total, not all 5:2 but most. Still over 60 to go though so not even half way there yet. I am as determined and motivated as I was at the beginning. Those first eight weeks are are dim and distant memory, so tough, headaches and sleeplessness but very irritable, guess it was all part of the detox from processed food which I lived on. Now I only eat fresh food and feel great.

How are you doing, family problems I understand, what a worry kids are at times, even when they are supposedly grown up. We always end up picking up the pieces.

I have had a lovely day today, bowls practise followed by an unexpected visit to a craft fair and then garden centre. I bought a lovely blue vase and art glass plate for a bargain price and a great garden ornament. I also bought diamonte earrings and a chain belt(remember those from the 70s) and it fits, hooray!

However my gold dress for my 1940″s night arrived today, it was made in China, the bust is tiny. Such a shame, I won’t be able to wear it, yet it is georgeous. I don’t think I have time for surgery and recovery before Friday. More shopping now planned for tomorrow.

SAMM – don’t you remember that Ply put us on to Brazil nuts ages ago, she is a big fan of zinc. I think she limits at half per day, I on the other hand have 2 or three on non fast days, I know how to live on the edge you know. I still have almonds as daily snack in the evenings with a few sultanas – yum.

I am also taking vitamins, calcium, kelp and garlic capsules daily – sensible whilst dieting I believe. Hope to drop all of these when I reach my goal.

Ply, are you still stuck? Do you know what the problem is? Can I help?

    Fran
The difference in my daughters plan is low sugar and low carb, plus I finally got her to drink 3 pints of water per day. She has a small bladder so she finds this difficult with toilet trips at work, also teacher. We timed them to work better. One pint at 6.30 am, one at 8 am, one at 3 pm. She has hot drinks too. It’s great to see her succeeding and now motivated. She plans to lose another stone taking her down to 8 st 7 lbs which is her ideal weight, she is quite small framed.

    Deelite,
Knew we shouldn’t have talked about bread, obsessing about it all day, ended up having eggs on toast for lunch at my daughters, nothing else in the cupboards. She is doing her food shop later. Still I only had soup for dinner so should be ok. May tuck into some fruit later. ( do you know the weird thing, the toast which I used to love did not even taste that good, I guess my tastes are changing)

16, 241 steps today and planning on doing some ironing whilst sitting on my exercise ball, if you haven’t tried this, please do, it is so comfortable.

Couldn’t get a trampet when I was out shopping so I ordered one. I am really looking forward to new exercise – plyometrics. Have you all watched it on utube. It’s really good, takes the stress out of push ups on your joints.

Does anyone here use protein drinks and when? Only after HIT or meal replacement?
I find the one I have bought ‘apple and cinnamon’ very sweet but definately kills hunger. Can anyone recomment a less sweet version? Or alternative?

I saw my son today, first time in 6 weeks, he said ?I am a bag of bones now, ha ha, at 14 stone plus I don’t think so! He is very proud of me and very pleased that I am so happy these days.

I really am very happy, life is good. I am spreading my good vibes to you all – smile!

If your protein drink kills hunger. Do tell more!
    Brand name please?

    The protein works.com
    Apple cinnamon swirl

jojo: so glad you liked the soup. It has become a favorite of mine and I always have the few things in takes in the pantry.

Congrats on the 43! You are going to have to take a loan out at the bank to pay for all the new clothes you are going to need. What a lovely problem to have.

SAMM: I am also losing slowly but at least the change is downward and 6 months from now I can look back and feel the effort was not wasted. How nice that friends are noticing. That is when you know it is working. Well done you both. And to Deelite as well. Each of those 1 lb loses are hard fought victories.

Franfit: hope you can find something on the site that appeals to you. I do better when I feel like the quality of my meals is up even when the quantity is down. I agree with you though that it is a challeng to try to lose weight and stay full on a vegetarian diet unless you are eating a lot of eggs and cheese (both of which I love but not every meal).

    Luvtcook
It may be lazy on my part, but may I ask you to recommend a pumpkin recipe!

Reading about it seem to intrest me a great deal.
    1 it’s nutrition dense
2 it effects insulin in positive way amounts small like 1 cup.

When I start fasting again I’ll want to have pumpkin on some fasting days in my fat attack week of the month.

Pumpkin in the can is the healthy choice.
I always try to make it sweet, because I’m not a good cook. I would welcome your input!

About plyometrics. I say proceed with caution, the wiki says it’s for athletes looking to become improved, and that it can be injury prone. The word plyometric isn’t a scientific one so it has many variations of how to do the exercise, to increase performance of what is already champion lvl. Perhaps an experienced yoga student will be qualified. But I just point to the caution wordage on the wiki.

Had a great day with my daughter. She had her mother take me to my favorite fish restaurant. I got the chance to explain that I didn’t need dessert because she is all the sweet I need! But really the carbs in my cornbread are even higher than in the cake. I asked her to see if she could identify my other carbs?
I was happy and gave her a intimate smile as she pointed them out. She’s 11. Then she she looked at her plate very carefully, almost all carb! My wife looked at hers too. Mine plate was catfish, turnip greens, okra, sweet potato, and cornbread .I estimated 1100 calories. 475 from the cornbread.
I don’t order soda anymore. I ask for water and some lemon wedges, I always take stevia in the packets with me or my calories would have been over 1500. I’m trying to eliminate artificial sweeteners these days. And the lemon is good for diabetic’s gums. I like to smile at them with that bright yellow lemon wedge for a smile, just horsing around , but I know it’s actually a healthy thing to do.
    Be well my friends!

Morning everyone! Sounds like everyone has been busy this weekend!

I have done some plyometric excersices before. It can be things like continuous squat jumps, or box jumps. But you can’t do so much of them because it works by the muscles not being able to react or something. It’s a long time since I learned about this but it’s something on those lines.

    Fasting today!

    Have a good day everyone!

    Good morning fast trackers,

Deelite, there was no jumping in the utube video
I watched. Plyometrics trampet exercises by Bob Wood. Push ups and twists. Have a look. I am no great jumper, do a little on big trampoline and short time skipping, trying to develop it but don’t have the lung power at my weight.

Got on the scales today because I always worry after a two day non fast, great news maintaining lowest, I really need to ban the scales, total addiction to them, which is not healthy because it’s not all about the weight is it? Maybe no weighing should be next months challenge, no weighing until the end of July. I don’t know about you lot but I would have to put my scales in the loft to avoid using them. It would be hard but very gratifying to lose a chunk in one go. Anyone else here weigh monthly?

Or has anyone else got a July challenge.

It’s Monday, so it’s full on exercise starting with dog walk, then ballroom fitness, yoga, bowls and then badminton, average 15,000 steps. Fasting Mon, Thursday this week as out Friday night at my 40’s night. Staying low carb, low fat, no sugar this week. Porridge breakfast with water and prunes, soup for lunch, fish and veg for dinner on non fast days. Fast days ( no cal 24 hrs) water and fruit teas only. This system works for me without having to add a day and I lose 2 lb per week. It would be tough if I had a sweet tooth but I am a savoury lover, I still dream of pasties and pies – one day per month I treat myself but only if I have hit my 7 lb monthly goal. This month I set myself a 10 lb goal, will I make it ? For sure, even if ?I have to do ADF for the last week.

Stay with me guys we can beat this weight loss mountain. If I can do this with a huge weight loss ahead of me, so can you. Just search for the key – remembero mix it up with your foods, toxins from processed foods slow up weight loss.

    Be strong

Good morning, fast trackers! I’ve been working, working, working, walking, maintaining.

Eager to catch up with you. Later.

Something something something, spinachwouldeacts with thyriod to slow fat loss. Will read and post referencez later.

not sure if I posted it yesterday . But im reviewing my fat loss from last year. And hunger planning seemed to be the cornerstone.
And yes I have a list of the most nutritious yet most filling . By rating.

Fortunatly it can be cross referenced with marco ratio as well.

    hmmm.
    Put another way.
if dieters and fasters didnt get hungry. losing weight would they keep on keeping on?

SAMM, so glad you had a nice Father’s Day! Thanks for your tips and advice as well.

Jojo, I am indeed stuck, and not only that, the scale has crept up 3 pounds. While I may have had a couple of treats or a glass of wine on a non-fasting day, I have not exceeded my TDEE (1600—I use the sedentary calculation, even though I am not!) and usually just barely over my BMR (1337). More evidence that the simple calories in/calories out calculation is full of complexity. This past week has not been a good one, despite the calorie limits above. I’m afraid the 24-hour fast makes me feel a little deprived, so I am more likely to have a treat the next day. I have also been experiencing some issues with the back passage, as you so delicately call it.

So, I am going back to 2-3 meals on fast days, all within the 500-calorie limit, of course. I will do 3 fast days per week, usually Monday, Thursday, Saturday, with adjustments as necessary. I will put off my first meal until 10 am, and do 16:8 every day, fast or no. I will strictly limit carbs except Fiber One, vegetables, and berries. I will continue to strive for 15,000 steps per day, and continue with the strength training I have added in. I am also going to be doing Pilates twice a week starting next week when school is out. Any other must-dos, Jojo? (Or anyone else?)

My June/July challenge is 15 pounds in 7 weeks, that is, the 3 that showed up this week and 12 more! Bikini, here I come! I plan to report in my lot on this forum, so feel free to ignore me if I become annoying! I find this forum, and all of you on it, immensely helpful in staying on track. I would say “wish me luck”, but we all know it is about hard work!

Luvtocook, I am buying the soup ingredients tonight. Sounds delish!

http://healthyliving.azcentral.com/burn-body-fat-mini-trampoline-4640.htmlk the trumpet is your exercise and the polymetric adds to it.

Dang even nasa is keen on jumping on trumpet

    crazy auto corrected

Glad you enjoyed your visit with your son, Jojo! (and that he noticed and acknowledged your hard work!)

Too bad about the gold dress! I’m sure you will find something fabulous to replace it!

    Soup sounds sooooooooooo good
