  • I had to open the forum to see your wave, OA. I knew there would be one! Very cute. 😉
Wilbers, I agree with Amazon. I have arthritis too and find glucosamine, krill etc make much more difference than painkillers. I had a trigger thumb release done last year and can do hand sewing and hold a pen properly again now. Couldn’t squeeze my thumb joint properly before. It was a simple day surgery and amazingly effective.

Jojo, have you considered your higher cholesterol is inherited? My OH still takes cholesterol lowering drugs (not sure what). They are the only drugs he takes now, but he has found them still necessary, despite being only 66kg and eating really well. My bp lowered with 5:2 and extra exercise, but is still not low enough for me to confidently not take some medication. I tried none for a couple of months, but it went up and the risk of stroke is too real to be bloody minded. I’d rather take a tiny tablet every morning than be stroke effected for life.

Hope both the parents are comfortable today, Wee and Ply x

    Happy days folks. P 🙂

BTW, forgot to congratulate you on your monster fast, Amazon. Well done girl. No stopping you! 🙂

Smiffy, You have inspired me….must check out what is lurking in the back of my fridge. Why do they make them so deep? They should just be shallow shelves so that you can reach everything easily without having to do the “jar shuffle” every time you want to find something? And in our hot weather you really ant to minimise the length of time the door is open. P

I wouldn’t dream of buying a jar of pasta sauce.
I read the labels on everything thse days and it is amazing how much sugar there is in things, and the amount of savoury foods that have had it added, for example peanut butter. Processed food is a health hazard IMO.

Thanks Purple. I’ve had more than 500 today but I’m happy enough. I’ll need to plan a bit better in future so I don’t feel the need to do more than a 2 day B2B.

I have a young friend who had juvenile arthritis and her knees are a real problem. She tried many different things and didn’t want to take medication as it would affect her fertility and she was trying to start a family. She had her two babies, suffering throughout with painful and swollen knees and then someone recommended Devils Claw. Within a couple of weks the swelling had reduced as had the pain, and she takes it all the time. I recommended iy to my friend’s niece for her knee problem and after years of pain and swelling it is much improved.
It is trial and error as to what suits but there is usually something that works.

Jojo I am in total agreement re 19/5 actually in the back of my mind files I wonder if this daily IF would be a good maintainance option ?? You wonder when the “put sugar in everything” happened. I know jam used to have a lot more to preserve it, so maybe that is why.

It is definitely better to make your own food. It just takes planning.
I have always wondered why people use cake mixes when a cake only has egg, milk, four and sugar (and you can easily halve that amount of sugar in all recipes). I guess it is just that they don’t realise how easy and rewarding cooking is. My problem is, I LOVE cooking, but don’t have enough people around to eat it any more. 🙁 I’m always donating my creations to my grown up kids to save my boy and I from eating too much. 😆 P

I’m sure that adding sugar was and still is a cheap way to preserve things, and also to mask the flavour of other additives to improve the shelf life of processed foods. What is really worrying is the low fat effect. People are buying low fat products that are stuffed full of sugar and goodness knows what to replace the flavour that the fat would have provided. Reading the labels on any packet is enough for me to put most of them back on the shelf.
I’m with you on the cake mix Purple, it is so easy to bake from scratch, the finished cake tastes so much better, and doesn’t contain any rubbish, stabilisers, E this and that, artificial colouring etc.
When I worked I used to bake every week and take it to work, so I got a slice of cake or a muffin rather than having a whole cake or batch at home and eating far too much of it. I have to be careful now and bake much less often.

And doesn’t it take ages to shop now? I habitually grab any packaging to read the energy levels now. Used to be to read if they were gluten and soy free for OH. Even comparing two, nominally similar products, is often an eye opener. No wonder the shop aisles are so hard to navigate these days.
A friend of mine says “shop only on the outside”, meaning stick to the fresh foods and leave the processed, usually in the centre of the store, alone. Good philosophy.

Apparently the heat is headed our way too, RT. I’ll get back in the pool. P

    Good evening all .

Thank you all so much for the kind thoughts for Dad . He is fine today his hand is no worse and he is still singing away Bless him . I was the one who was worried the most. I worry about him as he is slowing down so much .he will be 97 next week

Amazon well done on getting down to the next stone , You are all doing so well .

Ply sending big hugs to Mam and you pal .

RT thanks pal and AOYP too .

I have RA too .I only take pain killers for it . I was supposed to have an operation on my hands a few years ago ( carpel Tunnel) but I read so many horror stories about it I cancelled it . My hands used to go dead on me and I had to shake them to get the feeling back . ( I don’t have to do it since I lost the weight).

Sorry so much of a mix up here .

As RT says , you all know who you are and I appreciate you all xx.

Jojo take care of those ribs pal

I have done another fluid fast today 🙂 . Only coffee and water . By the time I eat tomorrow it will be well over 36 hours

    Wee xx

    Hi Wee
Glad to hear your dad is still singing. Lovely!
You were a wise woman avoiding the carpel tunnel op. I am one of those horror stories. I didn’t go back for the second.
Two years later I still can’t pick up heavy weights like frying pans in my left hand as there is so much scar tissue. I massage it every day, but little improvement.
Mind you, with the disasters that followed that op, I ended up incapacitated for months, I gained so much weight that I was ready for 5:2 when I first saw the doco. It has been all gain since then. They say losing weight won’t effect carpel tunnel as it is pressure on the nerves within the wrist, but my right hand doesn’t trouble me now. What do “they” know? 🙂
    Have a happy evening Wee. P 🙂

    Good morning FTs everywhere.

Ply, sorry your mum’s recovery is slower than predicted, it is worrying for you. Medicos don’t know everything, even though sometimes I think they would like us to think so.

Wee, glad your Dad suffered no long term damage except his bruised hand. He sounds like a dear and he’s lucky you are too.

Interesting discussions re glucosamine and OA. I took it for years but my knees gradually deteriorated and my hands also joined the party. Decided it wasn’t for me so saved the cash. Since adopting the IF WOL my hands have been much better.

Nice work everyone with losses – that baby elephant is growing.

Just had an offer to do some TAFE teaching starting next Thursday for Semester I. Will be good opportunity to add another FD.

Must go and shower ready to see them this morning to get organised.

    Happy Friday all. N

    Hi:

This current discussion about the negative impact of sugar on health reminds me of the same discussion that occurred in the mid 1960s. At that time, the debate was between the evils of sugar and other processed carbs v. the evils of fat. The government and doctors decided that fat was evil and sugar was not. They then went about educating the population about the evils of fat and specifically said that sugars and other refined carbs were healthy. This education worked and ignited consumer demand for healthy, low fat foods. There are many reasons to add sugar to food, but it helped that we were told it was a healthy substance that we could eat as much of as we wanted to. I still see packages of candy that proudly proclaim that the candy contains ‘no fat’.

It is handy now to blame food companies for making foods using ‘processed carbs’, but you have to understand the industry simply responded to consumer demand generated by government and doctor education of the population. Now that real scientific evidence is being generated showing that natural fats are healthy and sugar and other processed carbs are not, and governments and doctors are slowly starting to support higher fat diets (think Mediterranean diet, for one), I am now starting to see ‘snacks’ advertised that contain fats and protein. I am also watching large food companies adding higher fat ‘brands’ to their portfolios of products.

It is going to take quite a long time to undo the decades of low fat, high carb education we have been subjected to. It is still being taught in schools, from preschool through college and medical school. The tide has not yet even started to turn. The current discussion focuses on the badness of sugars and other refined carbs, and has not yet turned to the healthy benefits of natural fats, which are still believed to be dangerous because of the education we all have received. But the scientifically established fact that sugar and other processed carbs are bad for humans is being broadcast, and hopefully many in future generations will benefit from the news. Unfortunately for many of us, the benefits of the low fat diet remain and we will have to continue to struggle to lose weight while fighting our ‘sweet tooths’ and other carb addictions.

We never know what to believe . One week sugar is bad for us .The next fat is bad for us . we should eat fruit/we should not eat too much fruit .
I was born during the war and there was rationing and we were always told to eat EVERYTHING on our plates . We were also told you never go without breakfast .

I think what I am trying to say is we need to do what suits us and what benefits our health (our WOL) is what suits me and I hope to be able to do that for life .

Sorry if I rambled on there .

    Wee xx

    Hi Simco
Let’s get a bit cynical here….Governments only promote ideas that are presented to them. They are so much in the hold of their largest donors (read as big business) that they are not going to question, or damage the markets of, their benefactors.
There is a famous film from, maybe the 1960s, about 3 year old versus 5 year old whiskey in the US. The people producing 5 year old convinced their mates in Govt to mandate that all whiskey had to be 5 year old, thus cutting their competitors out.
Sadly, much of the rest of the Western world (I’m talking about you too Australia) follow blindly along without doing their own research.
Public broadcasters in Australia are the best at looking at the cutting edge research. Commercial bodies have too many vested interests in their advertisers.
Thinking people are always going to look at the facts. It is the masses that don’t who suffer from selfish Government campaigns. P

Purple, I have the same issue with excess cooking! My coworkers, parents, and kids end up with treats, so it’s all good.
My mom was not much of a baker when we were kids. When I was first dating my husband, his mother was making brownies from scratch one day when I was there. Honestly, it wa a huge epiphany! It had truly never occurred to me that you could make them without a box by combining sugar, flour, eggs, and chocolate!

That’s why I’ve always included growing vegetables, cooking and sewing in my classrooms, Ply. Everyone needs to experience the thrill of creating, don’t you think? P

My Mum used to bake and there was always cake of some description in the tin, a fruit pie or equivalent every Sunday, and various other treats such as jam tarts or little iced sponge cakes. Christmas cake and pudding were always home made.I didn’t realise at the time but she did it not just because she could and enjoyed it but because it was more economical than buying ready made. We went through a phase of cake mix, but they never tasted as good.
She taught me to bake and I seem to have her knack for making good pastry too which is a mixed blessing…..

I’ve never viewed sugar as being healthy and don’t remember ever being told so or reading that it is, and despite the ever present cake, it was always eaten in moderation.

One thing I do know is when I look back at 40 years in the NHS, I realise that clinically obese people were few and far between when I first joined, and by the time I left bariatric chairs, beds and trolleys had been in production and sold to hospitals for a good number of years to accomodate the growing (pardon the pun) number of obese patients who did not fit into regular chairs or beds.
The problem has been there for a long time, but it has been largely ignored until recently.

    Hi Simco

Thanks for stating the case so clearly. As you know I am a long time Sugar is Pure White and Deadly convert. I think the book came out in the 1970s. My children were raised mostly sugar free. Lots of homemade yogurt, homemade bread, fruit and vegetables. They are immunised and very healthy human beings.

In the beginning I went sugar free because of my teeth being full of fillings, and I wanted their teeth to be very healthy. I count it as one of my achievements that they reached adulthood without any fillings in their teeth.

However, when I reached my 50s I relaxed my vigilant no sugar policy and began to indulge. I was not overweight until my 50s. So I see an absolute connection between high sugar and processed carbs, and weight gain.

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

Very much to read on this page. Just waking up, getting ready for last work day of the week. In a whirl as much to do at home before leaving. So I’ve skipped the reading , but will review all the posts Saturday when I wake up.

I believe it was simcoeluv that pointed out that fat loss elevates cholesterol level. Further that is just my opinion is why yoyo dieting is more harmful than leaving weight as it is and starting an exercise way of life.
I’m doing both, and taking my time on weight loss. As far as my social persona. I’m a sailor, and a lifter. I used to boxing, but I’m done with that. Sadly my time at home is required much more attention needed.
And And And no need to get pithy with me. I do disagree ! If you’ve never sucked on lemon peel while also sampling stevia it’s just one of those experiences that passes by. Pure bliss to me in the summer on the porch at evening tea. I have zero craving for sweets when the real thing is so powerfully delicious. I mean to say I’ve ditched the high glycemic foods and found flavor instead with the peels, but research reveals there s health benefit . So I share the zero calorie treat that’s30 times sweeter than anything else ive ever tasted. 🙂

PVE I can relate to your feelings , I lost a friend earlier this year, and will lose another later this year. While shock makes me want to give in, after a short time I start to want to dig in.

    RT
While I like 5:2 I found there is more to benefits of fasting than just the weight loss. ADF is terrific in those benefits. My view of it is some folks can take it and make it work for them. I tried it and feel it’s not for me at this time.especially with such a grueling work schedule. My approach now is to continue believing there must be ways to schedule fasting week to week. Currently best I can do is two 27 hour fasts starting early Friday and another ending when I go to work Monday morning. weekend fasting , and one 600 calorie day on Wednesday. I’m just too active now for ADF, I get so hungry so often Im constantly feeling the need to cheat it. So inm saying I have no issues with it. But it doesn’t fit my life right now. However there are variants to keep fasting as my WOL . The only 1 I would caution against is 23/1 saying 19.5/4.5 is the research indicating there are no long term issues if eating in 4.5 hour window daily. Protein issues in the way the body takes resources . However ADF isn’t more than 2 day long so should be able to avoid those issues as long as the meals are not 1 meal a day. But that’s just a guess from me. I’m not qualified to argue those points.

Going on with the bake from scratch scenarios, when I was young my mother rarely if ever baked from scratch … dad made the pastry for the pies/puddings we had on Sundays for dessert. If a cake was made it was through a pack … found out the reason in my teen years when I started baking etc and that was my mum thought it would be easy to follow a recipe (after all if a teenager can why not her?), well to cut a long story short she wondered why the first one never rose (it helps if you use flour of some sort … it was thick overly sweet flat piece of rubber), the next one was a total disaster (after all our eyes are just as good as we get older now aren’t they?) and packets look similar too … the next was also thrown away, yes flour was remembered (remember the last one) and eggs and yes we added sugar (well no, it was salt actually!!!!), so needless to say cakes were few and far between until I started baking 😀

    Amazon
    I buy hunts brand
    no sugar added pasta sauce.
its alot , a big jar for 220 calories.

Its what I have on fast days as my first back up in the pantry. I have 10 cans of mixed vegetables. Not the best choice, but is readily available.

half a can of pasta sauce and 1 can of mixed vegetables. Spices like oregano, parsley, sage makes it Italian . This is what I eat instead of spaghetti. At 250 calories. Good for 3 hours .

    Hello all,

I have just purchased a wireless keyboard to use with the iPad and its brilliant, hated typing on a touch screen, you will have no peace from me now!

With the sugar-in-everything discussion, I just realized that even peanut butter has some added! That is the only savoury treat that I ocasionally crave and a tiny amt satisfies (non FD). Probably due to the fat in it, so now I will have to make my own in the blender! Crazy that manufacturers find it necessary to add sugar.

Heating up again, high 30’s in Melbourne today, I knew it couldnt last…just hoping there wont be any fire outbreaks. Its 6 years since the last big bushfires in Victoria that claimed so many lives and today the power company that was sued in a class action (due to their faulty equipment that started the fire) have settled for 3 million dollars. No wonder our power bills keep rising! The fires south of Perth are a worry.

Fasting today, 4.15pm and only coffee and green tea so far!
    Be good everyone! Cheers.

whoops, meant 300 million compensation, and thats just one of several settlements.

    Morning/evening all.

Nama if you around you’ll find no added sugar peanut butter. You might have to look in a wholefood type store rather then your local supermarket, but you’ll find it. The organic ones don’t usually contain sugar either.
    Nut butter on toast…………………………mmmmmmmmm!

Cold and windy and grey, but forecast to brighten up. I hope so as I’m going out for the day.

Have a good one everybody 🙂

    Good morning Fasttrackers,

Bit brighter here but very, very cold so I am still snuggled up in bed.

I had sea bass and pasta with samphire for dinner last night, followed by a baileys liquer, lush. I watched my ex husband and his brother consume two high fat meals and pudding plus alcoholic drinks. I gently suggested it might be a good idea to have lifestyle checks and offered to pay for them. No thanks was the reply, better off not knowing, prefer to enjoy choices of favourite foods. Sad but you can’t help everyone.

I avoid sugar, carbs and all processed food. I grew up in a large family where most food was home grown and home cooked. It was heaven. We did have far too much sugar in our duet though and fat played a big part too. Home cooking was driven by economy and less access to commercially produced food. We didn’t have a car so shopping was carried home, no bus to our nearest shops either, which didn’t encourage the purchase of heavy tins. But times were different, my mother did not work, her job was looking after us and she did it very well.

I was a working mum but ensured my children had sugar free duets and healthy eating. They were raised on the best dietary information available at the time and don’t have any fillings in there teeth in their mid 20 ‘s. I had lots of filling by this time due to my mothers cooking with sugar, we didn’t really buy sweets, but we also ate lots of fruit. I still so eat fruit daily, ate least two pieces.

I believe my cholesterol rate is not inherited but diet related. We will see what happens as I now cut eggs, prawns to one serving per week ( currently 5) in favour of white fish. As I cook white fish in butter this won’t change.

Our elephant of lost fat is definitely growing and will give birth on Sunday, please list your losses by then, many thanks. I think we should call him Mickey, do you think Michael will mind?

Quiet day today, time to reflex my diet and goals. Out to lunch with the girls, ?I will be sensible. I may make some soup now. Have a great day all.

    Hi Everyone.
What a lot to read about adding sugar to food unnecessarily.I never use jars of pasta sauce for that reason, always have made my own.The TV program I was watching last night was about trying to help a family save money on their food bills. I shouldn’t be surprised by people’s lack of education when it comes to buying and cooking food I suppose. It’s such a simple thing to read the labels, but takes a bit of thought and time!!
Amazon, I,too, was in nursing for over 40years!! Saw the same in that there was more bariatric equipment being introduced by the time I left.Very worrying.
    WN.

Also,Amazon, I have been reading with interest the suggestions for alternative pain relief for arthritis. I think I will try some Devil’s Claw, when I can get to the shops!!!
    WN.

WN, if you have a branch near you, go to Holland & Barrett and speak to one of their very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They might suggest something different that they think would be more helpful.

What is Devils claw, sounds ominous, hope it isn’t endangering any wild animals?

Soup is now cooking, everything but the kitchen sink in it.

Ok Samm what do I do with the lemon peel and stevia? Go through it with me, I owe it to you to at least try it. After all, years ago I dismissed many strange ideas out of hand without trying them(vegetarianism) and now I am mostly a vegetarian that has an occasional foray into the meat eating world.

Has anyone else cut out fruit entirely? Can we get what we need from vegetables? Is this more misleading information? Just putting it out there, what are your views?

Those of you doing ‘water and coffee only’ fasts. Why have you chosen to go without food? Is it just the health benefits? Does it effect your energy levels? Is it just to speed up weight loss? I don’t really drink much coffee but love tea of all types.

I discovered that the practitioner doing my health check put the wrong measurements in one section of my evaluation – apparently my waist is 37 cMs, bit worried about the rest of the information now.

    Have a good day friends.

Thanks Amazon. Thats what drew my attention to the sugar in the peanut butter in the first place….one of the big brands have actually brought out a sugar free one. But after reading the label and seeing all the stuff in it apart from peanuts and oil, I wont buy it again! At least I can make some in the blender and know whats in it! I didnt have any in the house for years as my eldest son has an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts.

Jojo I am eating my quarter TDEE but keep it all for one meal at dinner time, hence the water and coffee all day. Dont think I could go without food completely and dont think I would want to.

Just trying to catch up here and enjoying the sugar conversation. I’m, also, trying to cut most sugar from my diet. I’ve learned to drink my tea with no added sweetener and I’ve always like my coffee black. I try to keep processed foods at a minimum as well. Can be tough, can’t it?

I’ve missed the start of the weight loss posting. Not sure if it’s loss for the week or total since beginning 5:2? I’m down 3.4 this week which made me do a back flip! I’ve been up and down since starting 5:2 and am only down 2.5 in 5 weeks, but at least it’s moving in the right direction. I have to remember that I’m down a total of 33 lbs in the last couple years and that is awesome!(although slow!)I’ve had too many months of maintaining thrown in to show a fast loss, but I’ve not suffered in the process. It’s all good!

    Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Jojo we do the same as Nama. Water and black coffee (or tea) only until dinner. 1/4 TDEE or less for dinner then nothing until morning. Isn’t this basically what you do with 19/5, only we are doing 23 1/2: 1/2 (eating 36 hours worth of food in 1/2 hour.)?
It reduces hunger and theoretically gives the benefit of 2 long fasts. It certainly keeps my boy’s diabetes in check. P

Ps I buy bottles of pasata for emergency use…. 99% tomato. No sugar.
Jojo, I actually do much more exercise on my non food days. Food makes me sluggish and sleepy.
Off to bed 😉 Night night. P

    Afternoon all.
Just back from a nice day out at the Royal College of Music Museum which is full of very old musical instruments and other related memorabilia. The wind is making it bitterly cold so we settled for a stroll along Kensington High Street and will save the Gardens for a warmer day.

    Devils Claw is a plant!

I do fluid only until dinner on FDs.

I buy a brand of peanut butter in the UK which is called Whole Earth and it is organic containing only peanuts, oil and salt.
The problem is that it is palm oil, which is a huge global issue as primary forests are being felled all over the world for palm oil plantations, often in areas where there is nowhere else for the indiginous and sometimes endangered wildlife to live. It’s all very complicated 🙁

I used to eat at least 3 pieces of fruit every day when I was working but I eat much less now. I have oranges and cherries at the moment. There is also a pineapple that has been sitting there for a week and it needs to be eaten so I’m going to griddle some for dessert at the weekend and use the rest for Chinese style sweet and sour chicken which will also enable me to use some of the leftover chicken I’ll have after I roast one tomorrow.

I always have cans of cherry tomatoes and chopped tomatoes in the cupboard.

    Evning all .

Samm I quite like to suck a lemon and i use stevia so do I just dip a wedge in and suck??

Jojo I have been doing the odd liquid only day . I did it yesterday and it was about 32 hours , I hate to see what Alzheimers has done to my parents and especially my lovely Dad . If I can help keep it at bay with the odd liquid fast then I will do it when I can.

I don’t drink tea and only the odd cup of coffee . I like marigold bullion and Bovril and water though.

I bough a rice cooker to make rice for Ross so i WENT OVER WITH IT TODAY . i HAD SO MUCH FUN PLAYING ABOUT WITH IT AND SAMPLED SMALL AMOUNTS (WAS MY DINNER) IT WAS NICE TO SHARE THIS TIME WITH HIM AND WE HAD A GOOD LAUGH .,

OOps ss caps , silly tired hands hit wrong key .

Jojo I have lost 5 stone in total but only ( A big only) 3 stone 4 pounds …46 pounds on 5.2 . since July …Is that what you needed ?

    Love to all

    Wee xx

I’ve lost 4st in total, 2st 4lbs since August and a ridiculous 14 inches from my waist!

    Good evening/morning all

I weighed this morning after two fast days and two days of 1200 cals, and I’ve stayed the same! Very frustrated and annoyed! So put me down for 35 lbs lost, please Jo.

I really thought that the amount of excess last weekend would have resulted in fluid retention, which would have been lost over the past few days – I’ve been weeing for England, so was convinced I had lost!

I can’t fast again until Monday, but will try and keep the calories restricted over the weekend. I met a friend for lunch today, and had a lovely Caesar salad. OH is cooking a roast chicken tonight. No roast potatoes for me, just lots of lovely veg and no skin, much as I love it when it’s all crisp and golden.

We’re out for a family meal tomorrow evening so it will probably be a steak with no pud, which doesn’t worry me, and a ‘lean’ roast on Sunday. Hopefully by Tuesday the scales will show some results.

Interesting discussions here. I’m also a great fan of Glucosomine/Chondroitin and have been pain-free in my joints for some time now. As discussed before, and borne out by Amazon’s professional experience, the weight loss must also have helped. My knees are half the size they were.

Re the sugar – like most of us brought up in the 50s and 60s, it played quite a big part in our family diet. Happily there was little in the way of processed foods and ready meals in those days, and I’ve followed that regime ever since. I can only remember fish fingers, which I’m sure were purer than those made today, and breakfast cereals – remember the variety packs? The first ‘convenience food’ I remember was Vesta Chow Mien which had lovely crispy noodles you fried. How adventurous we felt, and how disappointed I was when I had my first meal in a Chinese restaurant only to find it was nothing like the packet variety!

Jojo – are you confusing Devils Claw with Camels Claw? Lol!

Ply – I do hope things are improving for your mother.

Wee – I found Marigold buillion – vegetable. Is that the one you drink? Do they do any other flavour? I love Chicken Bovril as it makes a change from Beef, but can’t seem to find it in many places these days.

I’m watching the most beautiful sunset. Hopefully that’s a good omen for tomorrow.
    have a good one all.

    Smiffy x

It’s the same sun that is rising in a golden glow above the hills here, Smiffy, on a cool summer morning.

Jojo, my loss is only about 8 kg, but that’s taken me to a very happy place.

What do you mean only 8kg? That is fantastic, give yourself a pat on the back 😛

smiffy I have had a wee look but I can only see the vegetable one pal . I love it and think its about 10 cals and 1 carb for my mug full .

    Wee xx

Thanks, Amazon, I do. And you! Well done with the losses 🙂 . I don’t know where this will finish, but I’m a very happy participant, just want to share this with everyone.

Still no newspapers yet. Major production problems, according to the recorded message, so I have had time to catch up on all the threads. Good morning, world!

Good morning/evening/afternoon all of us 😀

Was out for dinner last night … could only eat half the chicken breast, 3 chips (was enough) some veggies and my dessert (last one for a while I think). Today I start by eliminating sugar as much as I can. So when I go for dinner next week I will have water instead of my usual LLB (lemon, lime, bitters) and no dessert (I don’t need it and last night didn’t really enjoy it so it’s time it goes, at least temporarily).

It’s going to be a hot one today from the sounds of it.

Our elephant is a growing concern, let’s see how big he will grow over the next month once we’ve got his “birth” weight recorded. When newbies join we can put their first additions as “growth spurts” 😆

    Amazon,

No offence! But I really really hope we stuff the English tonight.. If you’re not Welsh…or Scottish…or Irish you won’t understand I know!

    Hi Jojo,
Please count me in for a 35 lb contribution to the baby elephant!

    SAMM,

Sorry to hear you’re struggling. You’re usually such a tower of strength. Somehow reassuring to know you’re human too 🙂

What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger… And all that…

    Hard Luck Happy 😛

    Jojo,

Can I add my Dad’s lost fat to our growing elephant fatberg?

He is 81, and started his own version of 5:2 last summer at 15st5 (BMI about 30). Today he weighed in at 13st4.

He reports much less arthritic pain and lower blood pressure, and feels great. He has just had new belt holes punched, from a too tight 40in to a comfortable 36in.

His version involves not eating for 24 hours, but then perhaps eating chicken Kiev with salad…then cheesecake or crumble…and wine… 🙂

I think if Mum was still alive he would have lost more rapidly (she understood the calorie concept!), but would have enjoyed the journey less!
