  • Angie, I’m glad you are gathering information about your options. All I will say is that you are too nice a person to be treated badly and I hope you will not let anyone treat you as less than you deserve.

LD I don’t get cold on fast days but I have heard others complain about it, seems to be a common side effect. I have some clothes that I am in the same dilemma with – things that I like and hardly got to wear but are now falling off me. I had to fish an old pair of pants out of the back of the closet this morning – two sizes down from what I have been wearing!

LD you are correct they certainly won’t have any CW’s out there 🙁

I sent my passport in for renewal and still haven’t had it back yet so I am getting a little bit panicky but hopefully it will arrive on time (eek) !

Kilda – I love seeing you pop up a few hours after the initial flurry of activity on this thread. Morning, and hope it’s a bit warmer where you are. It’s a great feeling not being able to keep your old clothes but it’s an expensive change to my life having to buy all new things. I think I will just keep wearing what I always wear until I’ve reached my goal weight and then figure out what to keep etc.

JF fingers crossed you get your passport back in time – when are you off? That’s amazing you get to travel with work, I am jealous.

Hi LD I fly on 4 April so three weeks from this Friday. My passport was sent to Dublin for renewal and I have tried phoning and e-mailing but cannot get an answer. However they phoned me and took payment over 2 weeks ago so I presume it is going through – keep your fingers crossed for me 🙂

JF – three weeks should be fine, I know you are nervous but I suppose you just have to keep chasing them. Let them know that payment has been taken and that you are flying in three weeks and is there anything they can do to expedite the process?

    hi there peeps

hope your afternoon is going well, thank you Kilda for the kind words 🙂 oh and congrats on joining the falling trousers/skirts club hehe, 🙂

JFitzy if I were you re the passport I would make a nuisance of myself and call them everyday, its way too important to sit on it! and just like LD I am jealous too, lucky you!!!!!!!!!!

    LD

have a lovely sunny rest of the afternoon fab fasters xxxxxxxxx

Thanks Ladies will do 🙂 x

Hey guys – I have been battling these thoughts all day – but part of me is thinking “is it worth being hungry?” and a small part of me wants to throw in the towel and give up fasting. I guess I feel like the novelty has worn off.. I know I won’t give it up but I guess I am just feeling a bit/.. meh.. about the whole thing…

Angie you’ve been doing it for ages – have you found it manageable to stick to long term?

HI LD DON’T DO IT (not shouting just being forceful!! 🙂 ) I think it is necessary to have a break from things as, 5:2, like everything else you do will get monotonous. One idea is you could do 6:1 for a couple of weeks, basically maintenance, and then start again when you feel more motivated. That way you will still be in the habit of fasting but hopefully not gaining 🙂 Think of those CWs!!

Thanks JF – I needed someone to talk me back into the right direction. It’s just a bit tough sometimes. Fast days are generally fine, and I usually don’t really have a problem with them but the IDEA of being hungry all day fills me with dread. I suppose it’s all in the mind really… have you had similar thoughts?

LD – No not really but having said that I woke up really hungry this morning but as soon as got to work I forgot about it. Way back I posted on this forum about somebody I know that has lost over 3 stone on the 5:2 – however she always spreads her calories out over the day as she has to have breakfast. I find that on the days I wait to use all my calories for my evening meal can be a real struggle so that is why I don’t do that any more. Don’t forget once you get to your goal weight you only need to do one fast a week 🙂

I think I just had a little lapse in confidence – I know it’s really good and it’s making me feel more confident etc and I will be really pleased once I get to my goal weight but it’s hard to enjoy being hungry all the time, right?! I am the same, I was hungry when getting ready for work then didn’t really mind and notice after a couple of cups of water and herbal tea. I will keep at it though, don’t worry.xxx

You are right it is hard to feel hungry but think of skirt!!!!!!!!!! ha ha 🙂

JF you’re right – I just thought back to how bad I felt about myself when I was bigger, before I started the FD and how I would just feel depressed at all the weight I’ve put on over the last few years. the weight loss has boosted my confidence, I just need to not lose track of that!

    oh no just seen these!!

LD whats this all about?!!!!!!!! I agree with JFitzy!! I confess there are days I really don’t want to fast, but I force myself to carry on through the day, and remember, once you’ve hit your target you can go on maintenance!!

I think of it as way of life now, its become such a habit that I don’t think I could ever give it up..think of all the health benefits you are reaping with each fast you do!!

JFitzy is spot on, think of the skirt!!! hang in there, please don’t give up, we are right there with you!! its only 2 little days in the week, that’s it, and soon enough it’ll just one , how good will that be!!!

also I seem to remember you are going away in May! focus on that, make it your mini goal, and even if you don’t fast during your hols then that’s fine too, you pick up again 🙂 and I bet you wont go mad with food anyway, am sure of it!!

Come on LD, or that wet fish is heading your way, and its a mean looking one I can tell you 🙂
You’ll be fine, keep going!! 🙂

its just a wobble, so come on here if you ever feel that way, ok?
now back to work young lady, smile and focus…. take care hun xxxxxx

JF and Angie thanks so much for your really supportive and kind words. I know I won’t give up at this stage but today I thought about exactly why I didn’t stick to it last time – I did the 5:2 a few months ago in the summer and gave up after about 4 weeks.

I love that it’s changing my body and making me more confident, and that my fast days are not too difficult but I think a change in circumstances at work has made me feel like I shouldn’t be restricting myself because I’m finally happier at work. While work was tough going, I felt like “well I may as well just carry on denying myself of this and that” It’s kind of hard to explain!

but I will continue, and May is only 7 or so weeks away. and if I can keep up what I’ve done in the last 8 weeks, I will be happy.

I think the thing that worries me is that it’s making me a bit obsessed with food and counting calories. But at the same time, I would rather that than not think of them at all and just get fatter and fatter.

Thank you guys, you are so wonderful! xxx

LD I have thrown the fish back in the water 🙂

you are going to be ok, because you know what to do and why you are doing it, and everyone needs reassurance from time to time!! and that’s where we come in!

and remember 2 months isn’t that long, but the more you do it the more it’ll become second nature 🙂

hope work is ok and fasting going strong too xxx

oh definitely don’t give up, LD – it’s working! Remember, this diet doesn’t mean being hungry all the time, only 2 days per week. We all have tough days, but look at how far you’ve come.

Angie, the falling skirts/trousers club sounds so risque! ; )

It’s supposed to be lovely and warm today (up to 70!) and then in the late afternoon a front is going to come through and drop us into the 20s. Yikes.

Kilda, JF & Angie – thanks for your kind words and support, it really is appreciated. I don’t really know what has come over me, I haven’t found today’s fast hard at all, so I don’t know where this negativity is coming from…! I have made some really exciting progress over the last 8 weeks and really want to push this forward in the next 7 weeks before I go on holidays!

    you go girl!! :-)xx

And don’t forget LD the promise of those CW’s from me!!!! 🙂 x

Eek, one of my new colleagues found out I was doing 5:2 and she goes “I need to lose a stone and a half… but life is too short…”

That was me 8 weeks ago and I’m already a stone down or so – it’s encouraging!

    Hey LD its her loss!!

Look how far you’ve come, i can the green eye monster rearing its ugly head, ha!!

Pardon me for being thick, but may i ask what are CWs?? 🙂

Haha, I think you’ll find, Kilda, that it’s MY loss! Haha 🙂

CW are curly wurly chocolate bars – they are long thin bars of caramel covered in milk chocolate and I’ve recently rediscovered them thanks to JF! They are 115 calories so perfect for non fast days as a treat without blowing through calorie totals

Oh !! Yum, i see what they are now lol, remember them form when i was a kid in France 🙂

And its Angie, LD, Angie lol hahaha!! I know, i get my names muddled up too 🙂 xxxx

Oh so sorry Angie – my bad – must have read it in a hurry!! xx

    No worries LD 🙂

Thanks for the link, going to look right now lol!!

Hope your day and fast have gone well, have a lovely enening xxxxx

Ps just had a look, yes they are just as i remember, chewy caramel yum!! Going to try and find out what we used to call them in France 🙂 xx

I’m new to this diet and want to check if I am following the diet correctly – I’m on my 2nd fast day and worried I am eating too much although I have had less than 500 cals I haven’t felt hungry – Day went as follows:
Breakfast – Oats so simple made with water 100 cals / teaspoon of honey 20 cals
    Lunch – same as breakfast
Dinner – half a tub of Waitrose – chargrilled med soup 100 cals / 1 rivita 35 cals / M&S Beetroot and cherry tomato salad 75 cals – and as a snack I’m having a ginger biscuit 35 cals = total cals all day add to 488 Total
Drank about 4 glasses of water and probably 5 mugs of black tea
I’m lucky I don’t like milk so find it easy. Comments / tips welcome

Hi Chesty1 and welcome to Intermittent Fasting.

Sounds like you’re off to a great start – maybe in the morning you could substitute 50g of berries for the honey, as they contain fibre, are still sweet and will keep you going for longer.

Ideally when on a fasting day you should try to go as long as possible between meals. For example I always have breakfast and then generally have nothing besides drink, water, herbal tea etc until my dinner in the evening. Alternatively some fasters have no breakfast, then a light lunch and a light evening meal and one or two very hardy people have no food all day and consume their entire 500 calories with their evening meal. It is very flexible so experiment and find what suits you.

    x

thanks I will be back to report on my progress – I do find I have felt light headed on the fast days. I’m back at the gym every morning so need to make sure I eat something afterwards before I pass out – lol
I will give skipping lunch a go next week – my Fast Days are Mon & Wed. Set myself a goal to lose at least 2 stone in a year. I’m 5’6 and just come back from holiday weighing in at 14 stone heaviest I have ever been. Tried so many diets always do well but the more I lose the more I put on when I stop. I am hoping I will stick to this and maintain. x

Oh how I hate not being able to log on during the day!! Can’t believe how much I have missed!

Little Dragon hope that “wobble” is long since gone! Don’t be so hard on yourself – it could actually be your body thinking ahhhhh (kind of contented sighing sound), having had to keep you going through all that stress but it just dipped a bit too low. Sure you’ll be feeling amazing about it all very soon. That skirt sounds amazing think of that xxx

Angie sounds like you have already had loads of fantastic advice. Information is definitely the key, then you can make informed decisions at a time that suits you. Maybe try not to look at any more of his stuff, so that you don’t torture yourself or suffer even more pain.

JFitzy after several months your mum must notice! If she doesn’t I’m with the others drop loads of not so subtle hints 😉

I get cold on fast days too; just assumed it’s because I’ve had nothing to “stoke the furnace”, so to speak, since when I have had my dinner I have warmed up straight away.

Jealous of holidays and falling down skirts – clothes looser but no fall downs yet!!

    Anyone fasting tomorrow?
    x

Hi Chesty and welcome to the forums!!

You are in the right place here, plenty of support and advice, so good luck om your journey and keep us posted!

    Happy fasting 🙂

    Thank you Hilly,

I know i must stop looking for stuff because you bet your pretty penny i’ll find some grrrrr… Hey dont you worry, the falling down trousers/skirts will happen lol!!

Have a good evening everyone, well done to today’s fasters!! Xxx

Hello Chesty – welcome to the thread, you are in the right place for lots of support and encouragement – these ladies are so great when I need support and advice. Best of luck on your journey – 2 stone a year is more than achievable so I look forward to sharing in your success. You are lucky that you don’t find yourself being hungry on fast days..! Sounds like you’re being sensible with your calories.

Hilly66 – the wobble is gone – I just had a bit of a “is this worth it” moment – but then when I tried on my size 12 trousers and they were loose on me, I knew that I wanted to keep going. I think I’m just quite fickle and get bored of things if I do them for too long, so perhaps it’s just that the novelty has worn off but I will keep going and keep my little goal in mind for my holiday.

Angie – I had a good evening thank you – the fast wasn’t too bad at all yesterday. I had an M&S ready meal – chow mein and chicken with veggies and thought it looked quite nice hence why I got it and it was awful. I will stick to Waitrose ready meals from now on – they are a lot better by far.

I have decided ladies that I will be weighing in again on Friday 21 March as my birthday is that same weekend and I wanted to see if I could bring my total weight loss to a stone by my birthday. Keep your fingers crossed for me! I hope that’s okay – and it’s not breaking the weighing rules! It’s only because of my mini-birthday related goal.

Then I won’t weigh again until end of the first week of April.

Good luck to all fasters today, it’s beautiful out there! xx

    Morning all!!

hope you are all well, LD that is great about the loose size 12!! I bet you you are a 10 now!!!!!!!!!!! yippee!!!

your birthday is fast approaching, and of course its fine to weigh in next week, you go for it girl 🙂
yes I have had that same meal for M&S and like you I didn’t like it all, just never tastes right!! I don’t have a waitrose nearby though… I find the Morrissons are quite good too..

well I am attempting a fast today as I don’t want to do it at work tomorrow, its just too hard when I get there at 6am grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

but this time I used 140 cals for breakfast, yikkes, never mind, i’ll try and stay strong..

well its going to be another gorgeous sunny day again so enjoy if you can!!
have a lovely day peeps xxxxxxxx

Angie – I’m not sure if I am officially a size 10 yet, I think I’ve got another half stone at least before I comfortably fit into a 10 but I am really happy that 12’s are loose on me as before, that certainly wasn’t the case.

Unfortunately I’m not near a Morrisson’s.. there’s only a tiny little Tesco, Sainsburys, M&S and Waitrose. There’s also co-op I think – have you had any of their ready meals?

I think I need to stop being so reliant on ready meals on fast days – I know they’re not good but they’re very convenient…

Good luck with your fast today Angie. How are you feeling? Are things any better at home? xx

LD am sure you are very near the 10 lol!!

re the ready meals, yes I have had the coop ones lol, they are ok,i think most low cals/fat meals all tend to taste the same after a while 🙂

I agree they are very convenient, and these days they are much more well balanced than years ago..i admit I am not a cook at heart, he is grrrr
things are ok, civilised is the word, but I am deeply unhappy and the sadness I feel at times isn’t just for me but for all of us.. and if am being bluntly honest with myself, on insight I shouldn’t have married him..

but I am determined to keep going, am at work tomorrow and I am actually looking forward to it!!

have a good day yourself, and take care and thank you for asking 🙂 xxx

Aw Angie I’m so sorry, you can do so much better, I really hope he doesn’t talk you into staying with him. I know it’s complicated but you need to look out for yourself. If you feel like you shouldn’t have married him perhaps bear that in mind when you’re trying to decide what to do. I am sure you feel a deep sense of sadness and that is normal, but don’t let yourself suffer for him. I would say keep busy and definitely take your friend up on her offer for you to stay at her flat?

    xx

    Thank you LD

everything you said is true… its just going to take some time…I will stay at the flat, that’s for sure…

have a lovely day and don’t work too hard 🙂 xx

    Little update guys!

just broken my fast 🙁 I am just not up for it today, not here… i’ll fast tomorrow at work, and to cope with the early start i’ll have a couple of breakfast biscuits..if I don’t then i’ll feel sick as its sooooo early!!

ah well, that’s what I love about this WOL, we can swap and change it around our lives 🙂

hope you are all ok,and if fasting then stay strong (she says grrr ) have a lovely day!!!! xxxxxxxx

Ah Angie don’t worry about it too much – to be honest I’m surprised you’re even doing the fast when you’re dealing with so much in your personal life so just pick it up whenever you feel ready again and don’t force it too much. Only fast tomorrow if you feel like you can xx

Morning all – what a lovely sunny day again!! As you all know Thursday is my Friday so roll on 5pm yay!

Did my second fast of the week yesterday and I have to say I was extremely tempted to weigh myself this morning (don’t worry Angie I didn’t!!) as I don’t feel any lighter. Mind you last time I felt like that I had lost weight and then at my next weigh in I felt much lighter but had stayed the same – so who knows!! 🙂 Anyway instead of weighing I measured myself and since 6 January I have lost 4 inches from my waist, just over an inch from each of my dreaded bingo wings 🙂 and an inch from above each knee. I think my hips are down about 2 inches now as all my jeans are too big on my legs!

Angie don’t worry about breaking your fast – as you say you can do it tomorrow instead or indeed after the week you have had you could even have a week off!

Hope you all have a great day – speak later x

    thank you LD,

I know tomorrow it’ll be ok, away from here its much easier!!

I have been experimenting with gluten/wheat free products,i am getting a taste for them lol, have you ever tired them? I wouldn’t say I have an allergy but I do know normal wheat products can make feel bloated… also they are easier to digest…the only negative is that they bloody cost so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you would think they’d be cheaper since its stuff taken away lol…

hope your morning has gone ok, have a good afternoon, and thank you so much for being there and so supportive!! 🙂 xxx

oop JFitzy just saw your post lol!!

you keep going girl, you’re doing great, no matter if weight stays the same, because your body is changing!!
hope 5pm comes quick for you 🙂 have a lovely day xxxxxxxxxxxxx

JF that is amazing, well done you, you must feel fantastic! It’s really very true indeed that the scales are not the be all and end all. 4 inches from the waist is incredible.

I was tempted to weigh this morning too but holding off til March 21st for the reasons above.

Hope you have a wonderful day! 🙂 xx

Hi Angie – I’ve never tried any GF stuff but perhaps I will do that for pasta because I do love pasta but it’s hard to digest – anything that makes me bloat less would be great! Haha! But yes you’re right about them being so expensive… but perhaps I will try it and let you know how I get on.

You’re so welcome, you’re always there to support me through work/fast days etc so it’s the least I can do. You will feel so much better after tomorrow when you can escape for a bit. xx

Just butting in the pasta/wheat bloating thing 🙂

I think the fresh egg noodles are great for bulking up a stir fry on both fast or non-fast days. You only need about 50g at 77 calories (a small handful) or if you want to have 100g at 154 calories you will have a really filling and huge meal. My normal thing is to have prawns or chicken with loads of veg and low salt soya on fast days and on non-fast days add the noodles. It is funny how your food habits change as I find 50g of noodles plenty now where as before I would have thought it was a tiny portion!! Also I think people generally eat far too much pasta at one sitting – in Italy it is mainly sauce and some pasta to soak it up – I think here we do it the other way around!!! 🙂

JF how do you season your stir fry dishes? I would love to make more of them but I find that the pre-made sauces pack tons of calories. Is it just soy sauce? xx

Hi LD it is really easy. I just use the Kikkoman low salt soya sauce (green top) I never use the sauces in the packets except occasionally the black bean sauce one as it is lower in calories. Before serving I season with black pepper at the end – now I am very hungry – thankfully I am not fasting (ha ha) 🙂 x

I’ve got that soy sauce at home already, thanks for the tips JF – I will probably make a turkey stir fry next week on fasting days! Do you know how many calories that might come to? xx
