Hope its okay but I would like to ask something. When I dont eat I do feel really tired and food does give me the energy that I need to keep me going, therefore how do you girls cope with fast days and not becoming tired due to lack of food? for example before I have eaten lunch I tend to feel tired but as soon as I have eaten I feel so much better, so I am slightly worried that I wont be able to fast. I know i will be able to eat 500 calories for 1 day but not sure how I will cope with that. I will be giving it a go on Monday so hopefully I will be able to pull through. I hope this makes sense and any answers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks x

Of course no one will mind the questions, thats what we are here for!! Re the tiredeness i take a Pharmaton active vit tab each day, gives me more energy… Dont worry too much about not making it through the day, it will take a little while to get used to it but you will get there, and you may well surprise yourself! Drink lots of water if you can, herbal teas, eat some proteins.. Am sure you will be just fine, and if find you go a little over the 500 cals at the beginning then thats ok too!!

you will probably have to experiment a little to find the best way to do fast days that work for you. For instance, I save all my fast day calories for dinnertime and have a 500 cal dinner. It sounds like you may do better if you spread your calories out in smaller meals throughout the day. Protein helps fill you up better and gives you energy, so I would try to have protein-rich foods on your fast days.
Caffeine is also fine to have on a fast day, just make sure if you have any calories in it to count those. So black coffee or tea is zero calories, but if you add milk or sugar, count them in your daily calorie budget.
You may need some trial and error at first with your fast days and as Angie says, if you go over the 500 cal on the first few fast days, it’s not a big deal.
Thank you Kilda, I will be spreading the calories during the day as I know i wont be able to last until evening but all this advice is great and I defo take it all onboard. I will have to see how I get on Monday and like you said experiment to see what works for me. I will let you all know how I get on, thanks again x

JFitzy thank goodness your Mum noticed and it’s funny how your Mum feels about her tum – I can recall weighing 8 1/2 stone (back in the mists of time!!) yet I thought I was overweight and had a bit of a belly! Now I realise I’m just made that way, even when I am tiny my belly curves out, just the way it is – that’s what floaty tops are for!!!

Now for confession time from me!!! Fell off the fasting wagon spectacularly yesterday! Everything was fine at work, had my usual breakfast and then nothing but drinks. I even managed not to eat a thing at staff training from 3.30 to 6.00, had to sit there and watch everyone else munching popcorn, crisps, doughnuts, chocolate and sweets!!! Got home, Mum hadn’t got my message to not do me dinner, she looks after my kids for me when have late days at work, so she had made me spaghetti and meatballs. I saw those yummy meatballs staring at me, within seconds one was in my mouth, nom nom and my will power died. So I had spaghetti and meatballs. After that I thought oh well one piece of my son’s birthday cake can’t hurt – nom nom. However after he had gone to bed, I had two more big slices, finishing off the entire cake!! Went to bed feeling guilty and sick! Weird thing is though – I woke up at 2 am, feeling very nauseous, headachey, dizzy and extremely hot (felt like I’d had too much too drink!!). Wasn’t at all well, think my body didn’t like this rich sugar and fat laden rubbish and took matters into it’s own hands!!

hope you are all ok, awww Hilly!! don’t beat yourself up lol, we’ve all been there, I was fasting one day and doing good then OH decided to get a Chinese, arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh there’s always next fast day, so its all good 🙂
a little worried about my car though, as I got in to work it made that kind of noise that makes you stop and listen 🙁 got horrible feeling its the exhaust but had that changed less than a year ago!!!!!!!!!!!! not sure, I’ll see how it goes this evening, kwikfit does a 3 year guarantee on exhausts, so should be ok if its that what it is… poor car, its barely 7 years old and has done over 200,000 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! best car ever lol..

I’m from Nottingham & the sun is shining here so will prob be going for a good brisk walk later taking my little one in his pram enjoy the sun & let him go to the park.
I have done my 3rd day today on level 3 of the 30 day shred. I have 7 more days to go & will have completed it. I can definitely see change in my body. Let hope I have lost some inches by the end of it.
Do any of u girls do any exercises? Workouts? Etc. have a fab day xx

Jayjay thats sounds like the perfect morning in the park. I am from London so its nice and sunny over here too, but unfortunately I am stuck in an office, I am leaving at 3pm though ready to start my weekend!
I tend to go to the gym in the mornings before work, use the cross trainer and treadmill. If i dont make it to the gym ( I also have a treadmil at home) I would jog on the treadmill and I go for walks. How about you?

good afternoon ladies! Another nice spring day here and I celebrated by taking the dog for a 20 min walk. We both would have loved to walk longer but that’s all I could squeeze in before work, but it’s still something.
After having my fitbit a couple of weeks I looked over the numbers and found that on a typical day I was averaging 5500 steps. That’s just my normal walking around at work and home, no exercise or extra dog walks in there. So now I’ve set my goal for 6000 steps a day. Once I’m achieving that consistently I’ll nudge it upwards.
Just a few more hours of work for me today – SO looking forward to a weekend off, hopefully with nice enough weather to get out and work on my garden.

Seriously jealous of all of you fitting in your walks – just can’t fit it in my day. The children stare at me as though I’m an alien if I suggest such a thing!! Still doing my fast exercises but seem to have missed a few this week!! Work has been completely crazy this week, with that and my son’s birthday am shattered!
Kilda sounds like a great way to gradually up the exercise – very interested in your fitbit, so keep me sharing your progress.

Hope you are all ok and fasters did great 🙂 Hilly car was ok in the end, this morning at work i went and revved it up to make sure it wasnt the exhaust, and well its not! It drove fine all the way home so hopefully it still got life lol!!

Hi Shelly did you measure yourself today before you started? You will be fine just keep busy, drink loads of water and if you do feel hungry have something small to keep you going. M&S do a great country vegetable soup which is only 150 calories for the whole pot and I usually have that at around 2pm and then I have the rest of my calories around 7pm which is usually a chicken or prawn stir fry.

Ok Angie and good luck with your 16:8. I think I sometimes do that on non fast days too as I don’t have breakfast and then I will eat all my calories between noon and 8pm is that what 16:8 is? Also can you post that link again for the 10 minute tummy exercises – this thread is so long now I don’t know where it is!! 🙂

Hi guys hope ur all well. I’m fasting today. Had a really bad weekend with really bad food. The result of visiting my family.
Hope everyone’s fast is going ok? Mine is. Though feeling it now abit. I went for a 3 mile walk earlier too.
16.8? I have never heard of that. So basically does it mean u skip ur breakfast & lunch & eat ur non fast day calories allowance in one meal? Or have I got it wrong?

Seriously though you should definitely NOT feel guilty or ashamed about enjoying your birthday weekend that is ridiculous!! 🙂 The 5:2 allows us to slip now and then with the knowledge that we can reverse the damge quickly when we go back fasting. I had planned to lose 4-6lbs in Feb and only lost 2.5lbs as you know but in the old days, with the month I had, I would have gained. We are here to support one another and certainly not to judge! Take the rest of this week to get better and start again next week. I am glad you had a great birthday as that is how it should be and now you can focus on your next goal which is your holiday.

Shelley how did your first fast go? I hope you didn’t find it too difficult. It does get easier as the weeks go by. I honestly don’t think about it anymore it just comes naturally on a Monday and Wednesday morning to fast!! 🙂
I am on a non-fast day so had a protein shake with a banana, almonds and peanut butter for breakfast; I will have soup for lunch and then half a pizza with a salad for dinner. Total calories will be around 1400 so that is below my daily range of around 1600.

Hi JFitzy, it went pretty good actually, had salmon and veg for dinner, felt a bit peckish after so i had a cream cracker with tea. Not fasting today so had cereal for breaky, made a sandwich for lunch and meeting a friend for dinner tonight going for chinese so think I will pile on the calories then lol.
I am fasting again tomorrow and looking forward to it. I did notice this morning then my stomach feels light and I dont feel bloated at all which is really good.

Hi Shelly my next fast will be tomorrow and this weekend I have a Mother’s Day lunch planned for Friday but nothing else. We have been out constantly since the NY at the weekends (birthdays, dinners, rugby internationals,visitors!!) so most weekends have been a bit of a nightmare with regards to wine and yummy food (hee hee)! So, this weekend I am going to try and behave myself on Saturday and Sunday and keep to my 1400/1600 calories a day. I am away the following weekend on a business trip so it will be easy on the Friday (flying) and Sunday (working) so hopefully that will get me into the habit of not over indulging at the weekends.
