  • Hello all Day 5 NI – NFD but may turn into a FD – we will see. OH and I were planning an Indian meal tonight so I was going to fast until then but we have had to cancel. Lidl have some Mackerel on offer so we will maybe have that tonight instead.

Yesterdays fast went well until about 9 pm with an estimated 472 calories and then…… a box of Toffifee left lying around that obviously no one else wanted disappeared – How? Why? But in my own mind set next Monday is my real starting point – all signs of the festive season will be gone and I can really get down to getting back to where I was and beyond.

    Day 5, Cornwall UK, NFD

@fatrabbit – you are amazing and inspirational. Congratulations on your weight loss and sorry about your painful tooth!

    Day 5, London, UK, FD,

Quick post then off to pilates.

I’m with you @strawberriesandcream, I weigh & measure everything because I’m still blown away by recommended portion sizes, I think it was in November someone posted about the recommended bagel portion being ½ a bagel!!! So rather than keep asking myself who in their right mind eats ½ a bagel, or 25g of cashews, or 1 slice of fruit loaf/ toast…………… I just weigh everything and calculate calories, if I want/need more, I sacrifice something else!!

@basyjames, I expect one of our Irish members or @steve toon taxi driver will weigh-in here about your ‘balmy’ 17 degrees and tell you that’s positively a heatwave where they’re from too!!!! As a soft Southerner, I couldn’t possibly comment!!

@bigviking ………..… On Jan 1st I managed to get rid of the last two mince pies and the double cream too……………. You don’t need to know where it went, honestly!!!!

@goldensun, I too had a run in with the jar of peanut butter, it seemed to be a challenge to see just how MUCH I could fit on the spoon, I can safely say ONLY 2 spoonfuls though!!!!!!!!!

I’ll be busy today, so I’m hoping fasting will be a breeze!!

    Onward & Downwards everyone!!!!

    Hi everyone
    Day 5, NSW Australia, FD
Weighed this morning: 79.9kg, finally under 80kg –
Has been a long time coming. Had the best FD today. Had cup of tea at 9pm last night, then today: ACV & honey; rooibos tea; visitor, so coffee with milk; 4pm miso soup; 8pm fish fillets & steamed mixed veges = 427 cals. Usually a bit, ok more than a bit, lazy – so very happy with today. Even took the dogs for a walk this evening. Enjoy whatever you are all doing. All those that are not well – get better soon. Bye for now

Day 5……Florida…..FD hopefully NFD more than likely!

I really want it to be a FD but here is my mountain.Today, is first Friday, which for those who are not aware. I’m catholic, so it a day of observance for me. So, I will be headed to Evening Mass, which also means dinner out afterwards. Hubby said something about getting Tacos but he also mentioned his favorite pizza place…. OH which one will he choose? So, there is my mountain…….

@mjrbc……Sorry to hear about your up coming surgery, I’m not sure if this helps but I’m not against doctors but totally against any man made pharmaceutical substances doctors push on their clients. But when I read you were trying to avoid surgery, I thought I give you this information. Definitely do your research, but we use a product called Silverbotics/ Colloid Silver, this is a natural product that has a unbelievable effect on illness, bad bacteria and can help reduce the size of cancer etc. You can get it at GNC or any natural health store. Look into it, in maybe something worth giving a try to reduce your chance of surgery.
My family use it for just about everything….I’ve been pharmaceutical free for nearly 35 years, the OH going on 20 and the kids their whole lives.
For anyone looking to reduce they’re use of pharmaceuticals, it’s definitely worth the research, and I can tell you it does work!

Welcome to all the new ones who have joined us in the last few days…..I’m a bit behind in my reading of posts but wanted to welcome you!

Please be safe my cold weather friends and those who are experiencing the cold weather that’s out of the norm. If you don’t need to venture out, please say home where it’s warm!

I’m dressed with 12 layers of clothes and I’m headed outside to stand, so if anyone asks just tell them I’m OUTSTANDING!

    Day 5 – Peru 🇵🇪 – NFD

Here we are in Peru. Very long day flight yesterday but so amazing to be flying over the Amazon rainforest for hours and hours. I sat looking out at the spectacular views from the clouds, classical music on the headphones……it was heaven.

I did partake in all the food and drink that was offered on board but hey ho 😁

I will try to do my planks in a minute. Then we are off to the Dakar Village in Lima to see the start of the race and soak up the atmosphere. Going to try to be mindful

    Day 5 Wales NFD

Completed my first FD of 2018 yesterday at 700 calories. As I’m still not 100% recovered from the cold/flu virus I am going to do FDs around 800 calories this month and amend my goal to ‘no gain’ . I’m slowly getting better but not feeling strong enough for my daily exercise.

@bert1802 l will look up your alternative medicine, yesterday I had to see my GP as I had a scary allergic reaction to the steroids I had been prescribed so I’m feeling a bit anti pharmaceuticals right now!

To anyone new to 5:2 this month who may be noticing a lot of sickness here it really has nothing to do with this WOL, there are just a lot of highly contagious winter viruses going around right now.

@strawberriesandcream and @emmataylor and everyone else on the long list of challengers going for Dry January – I’m cheering you all on 👏

Have a good day everyone x

    Day 5 Wisconsin USA NFD

Hello you beautiful losers. Soaking in all of the positive comments and motivational tips expressed by this group and thinking that this has become one of my happy places and a place I look forward to visiting.

Fairly good FD yesterday but could have been better since I’m sure I went over in the evening when I had my meal and a few “extras”. Calling today a NFD but may try to fast as the day unfolds.
Activity will be the three classes I teach (Hatha Yoga, 2 Senior Yoga classes) and 5 miles on the bike (rolling hills).

I’m fairly new to this group since December was my first challenge month. It’s wonderful to see so many new posters as well as the familiar voices I’ve grown to know. Good luck to each and every one of you today.

    Take care, Markie

    Day 5,Germany, NFD
@emmataylor good luck in Rome! It is sure even more beautiful without the Campari 😋
@onahealthyhigh thank you for your help, that was my 2nd post though, which was already posted but never mind 😊
@strawberriesandcream thanks for this idea with the technical support!
We are on our way home – through the rain again… 💦
Food wise I feel ok but am looking forward to back to my normal fast routine! 😍

Thanks for the support for the dry January group. It’s early days but I’m sure we can do it together. FD going well so far, despite my painting group turning up with cake, chocolates, biscuits. Hmmmmm…..

Day 5 Akron OH FD. Brrr it’s cold and it’s my birthday!

I have been dealing with some uncomfortable stomach cramps and after a few days reprieve, they showed up again last night; which meant I was unable to get up for my early am workout. It’s very strange, I am hoping it’s just some weird stomach buggy thing.

I am in the middle of B2B fasts, as I prep for my weigh in on Monday; I really want to win. Usually I print out my free birthday food list and visit all my favorite restaurants and cafes but not this time.

@diverdog is right, losing long posts is very frustrating. So I always type mine on a word document, then copy and paste. That way you don’t lose anything, if the system glitches up.

@miraclelou you are welcome. Did you try re-starting your computer or phone (whatever method you use to log in?)

@michelinme the overnight weight gain is just stuff in transit, it happens to me all the time as long as you stick with it (which you are doing) you will be fine

@debster251 my heartfelt condolences on your loss, hugs from Akron, Ohio

@goldensun, thanks for sharing. The first part of any successful program is to listen to your body. Sometimes you need a little more, sometimes you need a little less. You are definitely on the right track, and I noted you made healthy choices when your dragon woke up. I am so glad you joined us.

Welcome @libertybelle, you are in for a treat with a fun group

@mjrbcd44 I had to smile at “mjrbcd44 private gallstone forum” but this is what we do, we share what we are comfortable sharing and we support each other through it; and in the process we all learn from each other. I am wondering if my recent onset of excruciating stomach cramps are gall stones and I plan to see my doctor to make sure it isn’t. If you had not posted, I would have had no idea that was even possible; even though I am a nurse.

Cheerio guys, I am off to earn my keep. Let’s make some noise and kept it real; remember fasting may not win every battle but it is winning the war!

    Day5, Guildford UK, CFD

Did my first zombie run today on the treadmill. Awesome.

It’s a free app and it’s fun, although I don’t watch the walking dead or Got.

    Sure motivated me to run!

Going to look up the Colloidal Silver, thank you @bert1802

@daffodil2010, so so envious right now……have a well deserved wonderful time

    Mari

    Happy birthday @basyjames.

Day 5 a sunny, frosty Belfast NFD

Despite not really being successful with FDs this week my weight is down a pound. Now for a nice controlled weekend. No alcohol is no problem. Now the sugar…. that’s a different matter!
Thank you @basyjames, michelinme, SongBirdMe, for your kind words. I found all your good wishes very comforting.
@flourbaby – I had to rise to the challenge. As an English gal from Kent (who was a teenage Sun worshipper,) living in NI I can’t imagine why I left the sunny south east for the north west. Maybe 38 years ago the weather wasn’t as bad here or my rose tinted love-struck glasses didn’t notice! Now if you live Ireland it is generally accepted that it rains a lot, hence the 40 shades of green. And yes, I’m happy if we hit 20 degrees on a summer’s day, which seems to happen less and less each year. However, we don’t get the snow much either, which is good or not depending on whether you have to go out in it! We are notoriously poor at dealing with snow. On the same weather note, there was a bit on this morning’s TV Florida, and the lizards freezing in the trees, falling out, and then thawing when they were put in the sunshine. It brought a smile to my face@Bert. There’s no such thing as poor weather, just inappropriate clothes!
    @markie99 – I totally agree that this is a happy place😀
@Mrjbcd44 I too am happy reading your private gallstone forum! You never know when the info might be useful!

    Having a good CD todqy.

Remember: A quitter never wins and a winner never quits

    Day 5, UK, NFD

Happy Birthday @basyjames , I hope your stomach pains ease soon.

I don’t have very accurate scales, but on my non accurate ones it looks like I’m just a tiny touch lighter today 🙂

Its really good to read through this forum, its so informative in so many ways.

Hope everyone has a nice day 🤗

    Day 5 – USA – FD

@anna6, so sorry you have a severe infection…thinking of you and hope you recover quickly! @fatrabbit, congratulations on meeting your goal of wedding weight…what a feat! @arelkade, welcome and congrats on your recent dispatch of lbs.! @basyjames, happy birthday!

    Day 5 – Massachusetts – CD

I have survived the “bomb cyclone.” We got 12-16 inches of snow I would estimate (30-40 cm). Not a terrible lot, but respectable. The roads and sidewalks were pretty well cleared this morning and people are back to work like the industrious north-easters we are. Thank you all for the kind thoughts!

Yesterday was a NFD and I ate what ever I wanted without thinking about it and without feeling bad. Today I aim to make a CD going into a belated holiday party tomorrow, where I think I will do some indulging.

@mjrbcd44 – are you sure? You did start this forum, perhaps it’s not too late to change the name. 😉

@bert1802 – what else is this silverbiotics good for? How do you use it? Given my IBS issues, I am always looking for natural remedies that could help.

@anna6 – I hope you get better soon! I too have a lingering infection I can’t seem to get rid of!

@debster251 – I feel you about the sugar! Stay strong, remember the pocket list!

If you’re going through hell, keep going!

    Day 4 – FD – Perth WA
    Day 5 – NFD

FD yesterday was hard, I guess that’s just the novelty wearing off. But I made it with minimal snacking and came in under 500 🎉 Today was probably worse, I am keeping track of my cals (@onahealthyhigh yeah it’s working really well for me. I’m from South West WA 🤗) each day and inputting my Argentinian food truck sandwich brought me painfully to grips with just how many calories are in take out so I will be a little more selective next time and maybe try and keep take out to a 1meal/week kind of thing.
    In Solidarity ✊🏻

Day 5 USA (Utah visiting) NFD

Maintaining quite well, if I do say so myself! 🙂 It’s a joy to read how newbies have found this marvelous group. Besides being successful fasters, we are also very entertaining.

@daffodil2010 – how exciting being in Peru! Enjoy your time there. I hope someday to make it to South America. Your description of flying over the Amazon made me like Mari, @rainbowsmile so envious!

@bert1802 – I have never heard of that Colloidal Silver, but it sounds fascinating. So glad it has worked so well for you and your family. I still feel like giving blood every 8 weeks keeps me ever so much healthier.

    @leggit – yeah for your industrious north-easterners!

    Onward and downward.

@basyjames Happy Birthday!!!! Enjoy your day.

    Day 5, US, NFD

Successful B2B FD the last two days. But am glad it’s Friday and I can have a beer or wine tonight!

Thanks for the reality check, Maayyaa. While we Floridians are complaining about how bitterly cold it’s been the last week (it did get to 0 degrees Celcius overnight and even had a dusting of snow in the northern part of the state), that temperature is nothing compared to what others experience as “normal” during their winter. I heard it was -17 degrees C in Washington DC yesterday morning. That IS cold!! But usually, Florida weather is just beautiful at this time of year, with pleasant day time temperatures in the mid-20s, and not getting into the single digits over night. I’m sure Leggit could chime in here about what “real cold” is in the States! (You can tell I’m transplated here because I still think in Celcius, and not Farenheit.)

    Enjoy the weekend everyone!

@basyjames. Sorry I meant to wish you happy birthday 🎂 XO

Day 5 – SW WA USA – NFD

Hooray it’s Friday! After an indulgent Jan 1 when the scales bumped up to 204.2, I’m so glad to down to 201 lbs after 2 500 cal FDs this week. Heading in the right direction.

    @basyjames – Happy Birthday!
@fatrabbit – so glad you’re doing so well, tooth ache and all.
    @daffodil2010 – Peru sounds amazing!
@markie99 – I will post some Costa Rica comments. I’m always running out of time.

Let’s have a great day because together we are stronger!

Day 5 Preston Uk CD hello world 🌈 🌎

Well I’ve reached day 5 and still feeling totally motivated, which I must admit is a first for me. In the past when I’ve tried to lose weight, by day 5 it’s definitely a case of having to really fight the cravings and as you can imagine, I always lose. But hopefully not anymore. Trying to keep to around 1300 kcal today but having a very lazy day with no exercise. Tomorrow is a FD and I have started doing the Preston 5k park run on a Saturday so hopefully it’ll be a double whammy for me.
Hope everyone is having a good day, thanks for all the support and positivity, stay warm, stay safe, stay motivated. 😀🏃‍♀️👍

    Day 5 – Iceland – FD

Second attempt as yesterday’s fast was ruined due to constant snacking. Today will be clean and nice, so far only drinking water and tea, saving the calories until dinner.

@maayyaa – welcome to the no sugar club!

@mjrbcd44 – all the best for your gall bladder
@debster251 – I too messed up my no sugar pledge yesterday 🙁 There were (not anymore since I ate them all) still so many tempting Christmas leftovers to snack on, very addictive Sarah Bernhardt cookies to be precise… the Scandinavians on the forum will know them, not sure if they are common elsewhere.
@flourbaby – your post made me laugh – there is no question about it, the fizzy water stays!!!
@fatrabbit – amazing! Congratulations on reaching your goal! You are a true inspiration, especially for those of us with a long journey ahead of us.
    @basyjames – happy birthday!

The pocket list for the “No sugar club” is slowly growing 🙂
    @leggit
    @debster251
    @borealis
    @happymargo
    @jaifaim
    @maayyaa

    Day 5, Gozo Malta, nfd

Metatauta and leggit thanks for your wishes. Leggit infections are not easy to get rid of and hope you’re feeling better soon and healthy again. I’m on the road to recovery as I’m feeling better.

Bert1802 I missed going to mass today as I’m too Cathartic did not go out today. I hope to go to Sunday mass though.

Happy Friday everyone the first weekend of the year starts today.

    Day 5, Surrey (UK), FD

84kg this morning, aiming to lose 2kg in January. Or in “old money”, now 13st. 3lb, would like to be below 13st by end of the month. There…I’ve said it, now it’s a commitment! Of course I will update this thread with the result!

    Day 5 California NFD

The scale showed a new low of 58 kg or 128 pounds this morning. This was my amended goal after starting 5:2 with a 59 goal, which I recently decided was the one to stick with. Either way, it’s a nice problem to have, figuring what my end goal should be.

Yesterday was a successful FD, coming in at 512 calories for the day. FD have become very routine for me. My usual days are Mon and Thurs, but the last two weeks it has been Tues and Thurs because of the holidays. I must say that I prefer having 2 NFD between. I think there is less tendency to overeat on the NFD, knowing that there are 2. It also spreads the fasting across the week.

I’ve lost 12,7 kg or 27.8 pounds since May 10th on this WOE. It may have been slow, but I had lots of mindless eating days scattered over those months. I do try to eat mindfully but am not always successful. I very rarely count calories on NFD and always count the 500 calories on my twice weekly FD. I have never missed my 2 FD per week and have very occasionally done 3, usually to move off of a long plateau.

For the newbies, I’m 68, so don’t be thinking you’re too old to lose weight. All the pain that I had when climbing stairs is completely gone. My knees feel fine now. It wasn’t old age, it was being too fat! I’ve also cut down on BP meds from twice per day without good control, to 1 low dose one, that controls it pretty well.

Day 5 McMinnville Oregon USA – NFD
I had a good FD yesterday, it wasn’t a LF but almost. I’ve planned my food for the day so I’m all set, just stick to plan.

@debster251 – I’m so sorry for your loss ((((Hugs))))
@leggit – Thinking of you, keep warm!!
@bigviking – Yikes to pesky mince pies again!!
@emma Taylor – Wishing you luck while in Rome, you’ve got this!!
@fatrabbit – Great success getting below wedding weight!
@arelkade – Congratulations on getting under 80 kg
    @basyjames – Happy Birthday!!

    Day 5 UK CD

After successful FD yesterday my weight was down to 77.5kg/171lbs/12st 3 this morning – a drop of 0.5kg since Tues and 1.5kg this week! I’m now back below my pre-Christmas low of 78kg. Not sure how much that’s the stomach/dizzy virus which wiped out 1-2 January but I’ll take it.

Worked out some extra short-term goals to give me motivation for Those Moments:
-2lbs will get me below 170
-4lbs will get me below 12 stone
-5lbs will mean I’ve lost a whole stone since 1 Dec

@basyjames thank you for reminding me about anomalies. I’m so easily caught up in the moment & will try to be mindful of scales going up & down with water consumption, food digestion, hormones etc.

@fatrabbit congratulations on reaching your goal! I’ve just spent 2 hours caught up in reading your personal journal and really enjoyed your generous, beautifully-written sharing of experience and insights. It’s inspiring to read what you have learned, and how you’ve re-found yourself in the process. It resonates with me on many levels, thank you.

Can’t remember where it came from but cooking veg in soya milk and spices worked wonderfully well. I thickened up the sauce with some natural yogurt and topped with a little cheese – yum. And raw cacao is my other Wonder find – so chocolatey, and so few calories. Makes a delicious dessert mixed in plain yogurt with a tsp honey, or as a hot chocolate with boiling water/milk/honey. I seem to sleep like a log when I’ve had it in the evening – my quality of sleep is generally better since I started this WOL.

I’m so enjoying rediscovering healthy food, experimenting with cooking, learning about calories, nutrition and different ways of making things, I’m beginning to notice the interplay between food and fuel, physical and mental health, diet and well-being. This WOL is opening up something beyond diet/weight, making me think about balance in other areas of my life. So glad to be learning from and alongside you all.

    Day 5. Colorado, U S A

This WOL really makes me consider what I am eating (and drinking), even on the NFDs. For the first time, I am keeping a digital scale on my kitchen counter and weighing absolutely everything. It really makes me realize how many calories are in even the little things I eat.

I have never been much of an exerciser, but I am trying to change that. I signed up for the Plank Challenge and added a Squat challenge (I can feel that in the buns!) Also, signed up for a short course of Reformer Pilates. It’s the only exercise I sort of like, but is quite expensive for the long tern. In addition, I am trying to take longer walks and get closer to 10000 steps. My dog is very happy about that!

Thanks to whoever started the Plank Challenge. I can already feel a tightening in my core. (Faster results when you start from super flabby!)

I am so happy to have found this community. I live in the mountains west of Denver, Colorado in an area where it seems like everyone is really athletic, thin and super fit. It’s so nice to find the friendly support on this forum!

    Down 3.4 lbs.

    Day 5 NFD Oregon USA

Weighed myself and as might be expected given the week I’ve had–am down 4 pounds since last week. 😊 (Pretty sure it’s OK to be happy about weight loss considering the pain I have endured) Will have to see if it “sticks”.

You all make me smile and I’m glad my “private gallbladder forum” comment gave smiles.

@Leggit-truly glad your sense of humor is shining through all that snow!!❄️

@GoldenSun–got the kindle book today and very glad to see that it is close to the cleanse that I had found and am in process of doing. I’m on day 2 of 6 and requires 32 ounces of apple juice daily. 😳 While it isn’t the worst thing to drink, I really don’t like all the sugar but there is chemical in apple juice that apparently softens gallstones.

@bert1802–thanks for sharing about the Silverbiotics–I’m going to give those a try too and recommend to my son who really wants to avoid pharmaceuticals. I am generally healthy and don’t require pharma often but I am interested in long-term solutions for healthy living especially as I age and want to avoid future pharma dependence.

@Daffodil–I had a great visual image of you flying over the Amazon rainforest with your classical music. It’s exactly what I would have done and sounded just fantastic!! Keep those images coming so we can live vicariously through you. 🌳🌞

@Debster251–your post about the lizards! Oh my-had to google that. Fascinating and really kind of creates a whole different visual image from @daffodil 😊 I am an animal (even lizard) lover and have such fond memories of #3 son completely engrossed with the lizards by our Orlando hotel when he was small. He preferred chasing/watching them to going to Disneyworld. Glad to know they aren’t dying! Never been to Northern Ireland, but the climate and 40 shades of green sound a lot like Oregon!

@Basyjames–Happiest of Birthdays! 🎉🎈 Sorry to hear of your stomach issues and hope that they are nothing but a quick bug. You are a trooper if you are fasting on your bday. I just don’t think I could…

To all of you dry Januarians–most especially @strawberriesandcream (and @emma_taylor who shared the link to Alcohol Explained)- I’m really so proud of all of you. It’s no small feat and the results in your health you are already seeing are fantastic! I think I may need to schedule a trip to the UK just to buy NA beer. 😊

“Figure out what’s good for you and create a liking for it! You have to work at living.”

Sorry if I posted twice. Got a warning telling that I already posted, but I didn’t see my first post. Apologies for any Newbie mistakes!!

    Day 5 – UK – NFD

I was watching on the news the devastation the freezing weather is causing on the Eastern Seaboard in the US, saw some footage of the freezing floods in Boston where Winter Storm Grayson hit the city right at high tide – @leggit and any of our fellow Challengers involved – stay safe!

Lovely day out with DD, met her future MIL for the first time and had lunch out together – weather much improved and we even got some sunshine this afternoon 😎

@debster251 @bigviking @flourbaby @emma-taylor and others – Regarding the issue of carbonated water – If you have been drinking it and it does not make you feel hungry or gives you the munchies on a FD then keep drinking it! Personally I don’t find that it makes me feel hungry, but then I don’t drink a lot of it, we have such lovely water here in cumbria that I drink plenty of cold tap water or hot water with lemon
@penz – yes they tested plain water, carbonated water, carbonated drinks e.g. coke and a flat version of same – highest increase in Ghrelin was in the carbonated coke group but carbonated water drinkers also had a significant increase!

@daffodil2010 – Good to hear your flight to Peru was fab and looking forward to hear of your travels and keeping you in mind for your daily planks!!!
@debster251 – cherish all the great memories you shared with your cousin 🤗
@shinything – should have made it clear, I use Safari on a MacAir to go on line and at the top of the screen, not the Fast Diet Page!! I can access emojis through that Edit button😕
@emma-taylor – enjoy Rome – lovely place to visit “The Eternal City”
@saggirl – did I understand your post correctly – are you planning on water fasting for a month??
@mari84 – nice to have you on board again – try to log in daily as it’s a great form of accountability and it will provide you with support when most needed as well x
@rahul1905 – great job on completing a 3 day fast! and feeling so good on it – hope your NFD following it was a CD as you hoped x
@tasha58691 @libertybelle @fatfingers – Welcome on board – never too late to join!
@miraclelou – your Day 4 post post appeared just above the post from @onahealthyhigh where she had copied your post from her email onto the site, then there is another post from @onahealthyhigh saying that the site would not let her post copy despite it appearing on the forum………… strange that!!!!
@rainbowsmile – “you are stronger than you think” – good on you for not letting news re the divorce derail you 🤗
@lindasue – thank you for that link but I was unable to open it???
@bigviking – those pesky mince pies will jump into our mouths 😉 I hope the almonds were not salted ones…….
@Strawberriesandcream – great news regarding your OH rehabilitation after his knee op and that he is back to dancing 🕺 Good to hear that you are “buzzing and you are not a bore – a lot of us are keen to hear of the health benefits you are gaining from being alcohol free so keep posting x
@maayyaa – I started yoga 2 years ago and it has transformed my life both mentally and physically – I found the most brilliant teacher and do 2 classes a week with her – hope it works for you too! 🧘‍♀️
@anna6 – hope the infection you are suffering from is reduced soon – take good care of yourself x
@fatrabbit – what an amazing journey you have had and such an inspiration to many here – I was so pleased to be able to follow your journey on here and read of the changes it has made to your life 👍
@basyjames – hope you feel better soon and wishing you a very Happy Birthday and enjoy! 🎈🎁
@leggit – have you tried home made Kefir to help with your IBS??
@songbirdme – I’m with you in maintaining nicely too – This WOL is great!
@califdreamer – great job 💃 personally I like being below my original target weight as it gives me some leeway for holidays or weekends of indulgences – I always aim to be at least 2kg below my target weight before a holiday – I find that it certainly helps with staying in maintenance!

What a lovely group we have for this January Challenge, from all over the globe, all starting from different stages of our journey and aren’t we lucky to have this forum to express ourselves knowing that we have great support, no judgement but plenty of advice and @coda look what you started 😲

    “It starts with a DREAM
Add FAITH and it becomes a BELIEF
Add ACTION and it becomes PART OF LIFE
Add PERSEVERANCE and it becomes a GOAL IN SIGHT
Add PATIENCE and TIME and it ends with a DREAM COME TRUE”

@basyjames – happy birthday to YOU! Hope it is a terrific day!

    Norway, day 5, nfd

Had an OK FD yesterday, but I did have a small milkshake in the evening…I Have noe idea how many kcal it had, but I didn’t eat much else that day so I think I can call it an almost FD?
Anyway, it was pampering day, I never have them, and I forgot I had manicure ordered and an agreement with my husband to take the evenig “off” from the kids, so I just could not resist having a treat. Oh well, I still lost 0.5 kg, so I’m ok with not mastering the FD completely. Next week will be better, I know it!

Have a great weekend everyone 🙂

    Day 5 – USA – FD

FD going well, just have been observing that many of us on the forum are aged 60 plus? @califdreamer, what an inspiration you are!

Day 5 of water fast. Feeling good no hunger. Drinking distilled water with apple cider vinegar and on the first cup i add a little himalayan sea salt. On day 4 i couldn’t sleep. Got a burst of energy at night and slept only 3 hrs some time in the day. Weird. Slept well last night. Keep you informed.

    Day 5 – 🇬🇧- NFD

@ Emma Taylor- you’ve definitely got a challenge on your hands – Italian wine & food to tempt you!!! Unfortunately my dear husband isn’t taking my dry Jan seriously v difficult now the first weekend of the year is upon us!!!

Luckily he’s supporting fasting & exercise not sure I will be able to resist 🍷…………

Day 5 : Cheshire, UK : FD (liquid)

I’ve been busy at work, then did my grocery shop (all good for this WOL), then babysat for my gorgeous grandbabies for a couple of hours. By the the time, I arrived home and did some stuff including catching up on posts, it was 9.30 pm and I thought it might as well be a liquid fast day! 🙂

@basyjames – Happy Birthday! Hope you had a lovely day! Thank you for your kind words too.

@bert1802 – Thanks for sharing your experience of Colloidal Silver. My OH used it a several months ago after doing some research but it’s good to hear from someone who has had positive results from it for many years.. I will definitely try it myself.

@daffodil2010 – What a wonderful picture you paint. Enjoy!

@joblot44 – I’m contemplating doing the Saturday Park Runs…..I’m interested in your experience.

    @fatrabbit – Mega congratulations!

@mjrbcd44 – Ooh, I’m so pleased you found the link helpful. Please keep us updated with your progress…I’ve subscribed to your ‘private gallbladder forum’. 🙂

Thank you everyone for your posts. I love this forum. 🙂

Day 5, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Hello all, busy day today – went shopping and ate out with friends. We went to a new place called Las Vegas Buffet – not my choice but the choice of one of our group who was the birthday girl (they always get to choose).

Ye gads, it was literally like Vegas or a casino buffet – way too much food and thus I put too much on my plate but came to my senses and only ate half – then had a bowl of watermelon and cantaloupe. I hate buffets, in general.

Skipping the homemade pizza tonight as I feel plenty “full”.

Getting in all my exercise and drinking lots of water (had two glasses with lunch) so it could be worse.

Scale needs new batteries so maybe that’s a bonus – haha..

Off to read, wishing all well.

    Happy Birthday, Baby James !

Day 5 : Cheshire, UK : FD (liquid)

Already posted this but it disappeared. Luckily I took the advice of typing in word first.

    Day 5 Second post

Thought people from outside the UK might be interested in the experiment which looked at the effect of carbonated drinks – inc sugary drinks (sodas) and water – on hunger / appetite.

The original experiment tested fizzy drinks/sodas, flat sodas and tap water on a group of 20 healthy men. Result – carbonated drink increased appetite/hunger more than flat drink.

On the BBC programme this week Michael Mosley repeated the experiment on a similar size group but included fizzy water as well as tap water and the two sodas. NB the fizzy water showed a SLIGHT increase – not a significant increase – in hunger/appetite compared to the tap water.
The headlines have been rather misleading!

Day 6 NZ NFD Had a moderately successful fast day yesterday. Slipped up a bit in the evening but not too badly. I don’t count calories as I find it too tedious. However have just had a plain omlette so far today and its lunchtime so feeling slightly pleased with myself. Off to a wedding this afternoon and as I am coeliac and vegetarian could be interesting. Thanks to this forum and WOE I now realise that its not the end of the world it I don’t eat there’s always tomorrow. Have a good weekend.

    Day 4 Ireland CD
    Day 5 FD

Yesterday’s controlled day went really well and today’s fast day not so well but over the two days just 2,000 calories consumed so I’ll be happy with that.
30k bike ride tonight in the cold and it feels good to be back in the healthy zone.. a few lbs dispatched already and hoping the downward trend continues😀..
Dry and no sugar January is working out well and managed my plank challenge today too so a good end to this week. I’m also not giving up my fizzy water..saw the program but don’t believe it increases my hunger levels so it’s here to stay for me!
Hoping all those on the east coast USA are safe and warm… We really don’t know what real cold is over here 🤔.

    Day 5-uk-NFD x

I’m interested in joining the January challenge.

    Day/6/NFD)Dry Januarian/Melbourne Australia

Good morning, Just basking in the cool of the morning before the heat of the day hits. We’re expecting over 42 celsius with strong winds. A marked contrast to our Northern friends.

Yes, there are many of us over 60 and 70 embracing this WOL. If only we had discovered intermittent fasting years ago. How much better our lives would have been without the stress of dieting constantly, poor self image, health issues and the aches and pains of carrying too much weight. I hope our stories inspire and help others to take control now.

I had a rather intense self-induced meltdown on New Years Day. Normally weeks of depression and self-neglect follow but not this time. Whilst my wonderful OH helped I’m convinced this WOL also played a part. 5:2 has helped in more ways than losing weight. I feel in control of my life. I’m relaxed about eating, feeling fitter and more energetic and enjoying life in general. It’s a fabulous feeling approaching my 66th birthday!

To all our new friends, the basic 5:2 does work. Try it, tweak it, not too much though. It needs to be something you can do with ease and maintain in the long term. Many of the ‘bolters’ are no longer with us. I no longer fast twice a week, sometimes not even once but I do practice a form of intermittent fasting on most days either by skipping a meal or two or eating to TDEE. I’m not concerned if I have a blow out. Everything evens out. I’ve been below goal since April 2015.

So sorry so many are suffering from the dreaded winter lurgies. Sorry we’ve also transmitted the Aussie 🤧. Wishing you all a swift recovery.

Take care and embrace the day

    Welcome @trueseattle 🙂

Day 6 NFD – Mornington Peninsula Australia

Already above 32 degrees at 11am this morning, not particularly looking forward to the forecasted 40+ degrees and hot northerly winds. Happy to report that the wedding anniversary was a dry one but yesterday’s lunch at another winery with the family resulted in a refreshing glass of estate Chardonnay. Never mind, spent the morning watering the garden and hosing down the chicken coop followed by swimming laps in the pool. I have now retreated to the shade with a good book and do not plan to do anything but try and stay cool for the rest of the day.
