  • @Strawberriesandcream thank you very much!!! haha yes I was indeed, this diet makes me creative, lets see if I can come up with another quote this time round 🙂

Glad to see a few familiar names!!

    Day 22 USA (Illinois) NFD

Doing fine. Maintenance still going well. Hope to read up on posts later today.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 22, USA, FD

Had a bad night’s sleep and felt intermittently hot and cold. I better not be coming down with anything!!! Perhaps my body’s reaction to a day of overeating and red wine.

    Day 22 UK FD

Really enjoyed yesterday’s Baked Camembert topped with pumpkin seeds & dried cranberries, served with sweet potato wedges and steamed cauliflower. So much so that I went back and ate the other half, even tho I was pretty full. Afterwards I actually felt my fat suit re-inflating. And an hour later ate a thick slice of seedy bread with butter and honey – clearly i was on a roll 🙂

Very surprised to weigh in this morning at only 77kg /170lbs /12stone 2lbs. Which is strangely my January target, tho I’d secretly thought I could bust that by another 3lbs if I work at it and get down below 12 stone. 9 days/ 3 FD to go, so let’s see what’s possible.

Yesterday was the first time this month that I’d planned to bust out and eat something high calorie, partly bc it was there and I didn’t want to waste it. I could have given it away but decided instead to plan for it and really enjoy it. This is Real Life and while fasting, losing weight and gaining the health benefits are a priority for me they are not the only priority. It’s good to enjoy food on the journey – it’s not all super healthy but the overall balance is so much better than i was doing before, and that’s great.

@miraclelou you’ve got some some useful experience to pick up and learn from. I find keeping a food diary is brilliant. It gives me unemotional data – i can’t lie to myself cos what’s the point? It’s me – the inner, deep-down me – who wants to be healthier, happier and have more energy. So I’m looking after myself by keeping track of what I’m eating and what the effects are – both physical and psychological.

Particular foods seem to lift my mood or make me feel sluggish, bloated or miserable; i sleep better after some foods, get cravings or feel satisfied, or am restless and find it hard to concentrate after others. It’s all useful information that I can choose to notice, pick and up and use. And when I look back I begin to see patterns of what’s worked well and not worked well.

Somehow I resist the notion of a a diary tho – it feels too constraining. I have a notebook but haven’t used it after the first day. I now keep my monthly checks in there – weight, measurement, BMI, hip:waist ratio. Cos I will forget! Instead I write on the back of scrap printer paper – one each day, all the food and the calorie calculations there, added up and circled. I can go back and copy a day’s eating pattern if it worked well or plan what to avoid. I keep them in a plastic wallet and stick recipes and quotes and things in there too. Many people would say it’s really messy but it works for me!

WOW – v long post and I’m late back to the project work. Hope something in there’s helpful.

    Day 22 Akron OH FD

While I am very thankful for the opportunity to fulfill a dream I have had for years, buying ( and selling) a home is incredibly stressful. we listed our home on Friday and had 3 showings over the weekend. No offers yet, but we got some great and sometimes demoralizing feedback from the prospective buyers. Argh!! it’s so hard to hear other people criticize the home you have lived in for the past couple decades; but it has to be done. Plus, we have to keep our home in a constant state of readiness for a showing, pray for me that I maintain my sanity through this.
Now I am even more thankful for this WOL because the last thing I want to do is watch what I eat, which is why I am glad I can just go without eating as my stomach is tied up in knots anyway. I am also glad for my routine exercise regimen; it keeps me sane.

I know we will get through this, I am trying to enjoy the process, but I will be so glad when we have settled into our new home. Note to self, be careful what you ask for; because you may get it LOL 🙂

    My best to you all.

Day 22, Rocky Mountains, US, FD 800 cals

    Hi everyone,

Well, I did everything right last week and also through the weekend and I gained weight. I also moved, 10000 steps a day, Tai Chi and Yoga. It is utterly frustrating but I have to keep going. There is no other choice. It seems to be a plateau, January is a most difficult month (an elderly neighbor once said ‘January is a dumb month’ and I agree).

I wanted to share this and am glad I do not experience this frustration alone. It is great to hear all your stories and have your support. We have to hang in there. I definitely feel better eating high quality food. Perhaps a whoosh will happen before the end of January.

Have a good Monday! We can do this together! 😊⚘😊⚘😊

@michelinme thanks for the recipe, the cake sounds amazing

    @xrox welcome back!

I’ve really taken my eye off the ball this month, so I’m hoping this week to get a couple of FDs done, to gently get back into the 5:2. Fingers crossed.

Day 22 McMinnville Oregon USA – FD
Today is a FD and I’m planning on making it a strong one to recoup some of my dignity.

@annemarilyn @flourbaby & @shinything – Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I really need that right now.
@steve toon taxi driver – So glad your grand baby arrived safe and sound and that mother is doing well.
@miraclelou – Please try not to beat yourself up for what is passed. Your idea to plan ahead can be a big help. I know when I write out what I’m going to eat for the day, it really helps me stay on track. Please let me know how I can support you?
@mjrbcd44 – Thank you for your post. I wish I were close to goal but I’m not at all and so I feel very frustrated and disappointed in myself. I love your advice to @miraclelou, “…focus on two FD’s per week. Period.” Sound advise.
@lindasue – OMG your chicken sounds wonderful, will you marry me??? Haha.
@lilymartin – Thank you for your kind words and I would be happy to mosey along with you!!
@daffodil2010 – Welcome home. Enjoy your sisters wedding, I know you will!!
@kerryn73 & BigViking – Join the rest of us who are pressing the reset button, you’re in good company.
@basyjames – Buying and selling can be very stressful. We are planning a move next year so I’m feeling your pain. Excitement combines with pure panic.

Day 22, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Back to work, back to fasting. No more biscuits and gravy with fried potatoes (Saturday brunch) or buttered egg noodles (last night) for me. Did have a wonderful weekend with the hubby so no complaints here. I am so grateful he is in my life. Heard something on tv last night that I was so in agreement with – a good marriage is like a roller coaster. It may have its ups and downs, but at the end you can say, What a great ride !

Maintaining at goal weight but for some reason the black slacks that I have worn often – probably for years – seem so loose today. Tucked in my blouse, added a belt.

Keeping up with the exercise and just drinking green tea today. Alexa’s joke of the day the other day make me think of you guys –

What is a pirate’s favorite exercise?

    The plank….. hhhahahahah

awilson – too cute ! Haven’t had a marriage proposal in years – good for the ego. And the comfort food dinner was indeed, comforting. And the leftovers will be yummy tonight – for him. I will be having a salad.

@awilson you captured my feelings exactly : Excitement combined with pure panic. LOL it feels so good to be understood 🙂

    Day 22, Gozo, Malta, fd

I jumped on the scales this morning and I’m 67.7 kilos. I seem to lose a kilo and a half by Thursday morning and regain it again by Monday morning. It’s the weekend I have to be more mindful and eat within my tdee. Even if I don’t go overboard very much I’m not shifting the weight and have done nothing this month except going up and down the same kilo or so.

Today I made beef tereyaki and also hot spicy 🍎 fruit salad . I sampled both and need to eat very little food to be within 800 calories today. I had the beef with konjac rice.

Please continue to go on Miraclelou. The trick is to never give up.

Have a great evening everyone, onwards and downwards,.

    Day 22, UK, FD

Its been a weird day, I just can’t make a decision. Lucky really because it took me a while to decide what to eat too haha 😀 . So far so good, if I manage to avoid nuts in the evening I’ll be happy.

@rainbowsmile thank you for that bone broth recipe, and @flourbaby thank you for the link, I’ll get there in the end 🙂

    Second post –

Just watched a fascinating documentary (from 2009) about a man who went on a medically supervised 40 day fast which he extended to 55 days. I had it on in the background at work and it was very informative and entertaining as he was a very likeable guy. If anybody has an extra hour and a half sometime, it is worth watching.

    Day22 UK NFD

Back home after epic babysitting day. Think I’ve burned a few calories chasing a toddler around all day. My plan of getting him tired so I could use his mum n dads amazon prime to watch series 2 of outlander obviously came to nothing. Still he’s a cutie and I’ve had a great day. Babies are definitely a young persons game. I’m much happier admiring then from a distance and giving them back!

@stevetoontaxidriver, thanks for the cruise information. We went on the Azura last year, and really enjoyed it. Britannia looks amazing.

Kitchen closed now, calories consumed today just over 1000. FD tomorrow, I’m on a training course all day so not many temptations about. Hopefully will stay under 500 cals.

First day of the week over, chaps. We’ve got this.

Day 22 – SW WA USA – FD

@bellyblast – I’m still doing a no sugar January, but I do allow myself the Sugar Free Russell Stover chocolates. You may have them available in Canada.

@cornish-jane – great statement you made: we “can’t re-write yesterday but we can decide what we will do today.”

@kerryn73 – congrats on your new job. I also like your determined positive attitude.

@rainbowsmile – interesting bone brothe; sounds flavorful

@arelkade – the time difference is interesting – you end the day while I’m still sleeping and haven’t started it

@basyjames – I hear you about all the different emotions & stress as you sell. My home/duplex in another city, is selling. Even from a distance my emotions are affected. I feel badly for the tenants to have the folks come through to see it, as well as the inspector & appraiser. I’m to the place right now at checking into things the buyer wants me to take care of. Some of the things I’m going, “what?”

@lindasue – you mention that you’re drinking green tea for you FD. Is that all you’ll have today? I think I remember that you usually do 3 B2B2B most weeks. Do you usually do 500 cal FDs or what is your pattern? Just wondering as you’ve been quite successful maintaining.

    Glad we’re doing this together!

    Day 22 NFD

Experimented and made some zucchini fritters to have with my over easy eggs this morning. They were very tasty and a great substitute for things on my no-no list like bread or potatoes.

Lower body weight workout today. I’m getting back into the swing of things at the gym and increased the intensity of the exercise again. I’m hoping I’ll hurt less the day after this week! LOL

Today I managed to go for a 45 minuets walk at last. I made a resolution to be more active when I was sick in bed at the start of new year.

I did eat more then I intended though namely some wontons which my son left this evening. But still around 1,000 calories.

    Good night 💤😴🌙 everyone.

    AnneMarilyn,

Hi, hope you are doing well. I am very glad that we are all in this together as well. Accountability keeps me in line !

I do three back to back fasts of 500 calories or less each week – eating in a one hour window from about six to seven at night. Green tea/water/coffee the other 23 hours. Although I find myself liking coffee less and less these days. Maybe one cup in the morning while it is freshly made.

    Day 22,Germany, FD
I was really touched by all your support! Thank you to all of you who “held my hand” and motivated me to go on and not give up! You are all so right : it is basically about 5:2 – nothing more, nothing less!!! And it used to work for me! I just mustn’t overdo it by becoming stricter and stricter with myself. I don’t have to do everything I read here that someone else is doing! For me the NFDs are important in between my FDs! I need sth to look forward to! And I need to stick to my 3 meals on NFDs – otherwise it will become just another diet for me that doesn’t work for me. I am just talking for myself of course, I am sure that for some of you those things that didn’t work for me work perfectly fine.
So I will try to keep it simple and go back to my 5:2 roots… Hopefully that will help me out of my many “relapses” into bingeing! Thank you again for being here and for all the good ideas and inspiration!

    Day 22 California FD

I had a nice surprise on the scales this morning. My weight was just 400 grams above goal, when it seemed to me that I had been doing way too much snacking, including late at night. I rechecked it on a different scale which confirmed it. I didn’t actually have dinner last night, just snacked my way through the evening. Maybe I ate less than I thought.

Hope everyone has a good day/evening/night through all the time zones. 😁

    Day 19 – CD
    Day 18 – NFD
    Day 17 – CD

Well I have been in Australia for a full week, catching up with family and lots of travelling to and from my niece’s wedding – it was FABULOUS and the bride looked GORGEOUS and I had a great time!!!!!

Back at my sister’s house and I managed my first FD yesterday when we were travelling back down to Melbourne, drinking lots and lots of water as we have have had some very hot days up to 40 degrees! the weather has been lovely the past few days but it is climbing again to a top of 40 for the weekend and the final of the Australian Open.

Weight this morning – 53kg definitely in happy maintenance range 😇 I had brunch with the family yesterday at 1030hrs before leaving Lakes Entrance and am planning on continuing with my water fast until as late as possible today – feeling good atm!

No time to read the posts but will pop in when I can – Hope everyone is having a good January

Day 23 – Japan – NFD 83.2kg Very snowy morning at least for Tokyo

I easily made past the fast day. However I’m breaking a bit early because I don’t really want to work out in the sloppy snow and I need to get back into eating slowly so I don’t eat as much. Actually it isn’t the main food that is the problem, it is eating too fast then then having room for a desert or snack. I just need to slow it down. I just takes a while for me to feel full, especially after a fast.

Good wishes to all still in the middle of the fast!

@at – Good to hear from you. So glad you’re Australia visit is going so well! Continuing at your happy weight is a great inspiration for what can be.

    Day 22 – Massachusetts – fd

Well even if I have messed up most days at least my habit of fasting has stuck! Time to start a new week and today thus far has gone very smooth. I’ve been drinking so much, but nothing is coming out! I don’t know where it is all going, but I hope to have a whoosh soon!

Not sure I’ll make my goal this month, and that makes me sad and has prevented me from being as attentive to this WOL. But seeing as I have no desire to backslide, I have managed to stick with it when with other diets I would have quit. I will persevere! And head into February looking for a fresh start. One week left, let’s see what I can do!

    Talk to you all tomorrow!

    Day 22 Sarasota, Florida CD

    Day 23, NFD
Away with work again. Home this evening, so will get to step on the scales in the morning.

    Day 23, Finland NFD

Did my first 36hour FD yesterday, i normally start and end with breakfast, but yesterday didn’t feel any longer. Was noce to know after the bad weekend i can jump back on the thankfully slow forward moving wagon!

@flourbaby I knew as i was eating the goodies on the weekend it didn’t make sense, and that is the perfect example of how my mind works. I am a big eater when i am bored, or emotional, so I have to try and keep busy.

@annemarilyn i think it is the forum, and having someone to be accountable to that is making me dtermined this time…and the fact age is creeping up on me and have to do something now!

    Have a wonderful day everyone.

    Day 23, NSW Australia, NFD
    Hi everyone!

    Day 23, Norway, NFD

Successful FD yesterday—still back to and stuck at 84 (again!) Why?!
Tried on a new pair of H&M skinny jeans yesterday…OMG, somebody have to have done something wrong while labeling it…was supposed to be EU44 (US14) but uh…waaaayyy too tight around my waist. I have other pants in size EU44, which are way too loosefitting…weird. Unhappy about the scale stuck again/still, but i can feel my arms and legs have less soft mushy fat on…gotta count for something.

Going for a controlled NFD today. Made tuna-salat for lunch, skipped breakfast.

    Have a good one everybody.

Day 23 country west Australia controlled NFD
Yee ha!!!! A great FD yesterday . Came in at around 500 calories and VERY mindful of everything I ate and drank.
No flat white coffees, just a couple of white teas and a couple of instant coffees ( not my drink of choice but less calorific than a flat white) plus 2 litres of water. Very controlled with what I ate.
    Yippee! Back on track.
Back to adopting some of the habits which helped me last year, exercising my ‘won’t power’.
Also thinking about food – Do I want it? Yes I DO !!! Will I have it? NO I won’t!!

@miraclelou – hang in/ hang on/ hang out with this crew and we’ll all get there somehow sometime.
@dykask I saw a program last night with Dr Moseley doing a trial on eating a high fat diet versus high sugar. Admittedly I did sleep through some of it, but the main points seem to be that women are better metabolisers of fat BUT high sugar in the diet can cause big problems for both sexes with fat retention etc.
@lindasue – ain’t that the truth about marriage! Must say I’m enjoying the ride with a most fantastic bloke.
A few days ago I saw a post about the ‘ Superfastdiet’ – a truly magic diet for 2018 involving …..intermittent fasting. NO having to give anything up, just keep under 500 calories on 2 days a week and eat under 2000 calories for the other 5 days.
I queried whether this wasn’t exactly the same as the 5:2 and the reply was that there wasn’t just one way of fasting but 3!!
namely 5:2, 16:8, or 4:3 !!!! And for $99 I could subscribe to their site and get all sorts of information and helpful tips and support!!!!!
Or, I thought, I could buy the book much more cheaply ( which I did last year) and get on this forum for FREE!!!! Not sure if Dr M knows about these people.
@saffy420, on Day 21 you asked people to ‘ wish me lunck’ !! Whilst I thought it was a typo I do so love the word and have adopted it!!
It seems so apt to get people to wish us lunck as we try to deal with issues regarding food and fasting.
Wishing everyone lunck today!!! May it be a good day.🤣

    Day 23 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

Yesterday’s FD was great until I got home from work and my DH invited me to dinner in our local village restaurant to “put a cap on a great holiday”. So how could I refuse? ☺️
Delicious meal, lots of red wine…on a Monday night!!!

RESET and it simply must be a good FD today. I feel bloated. I have been drinking lots of water but it’s not seeming to be expelling so probably sloshing around my body. Green tea and other cleansing teas will be drunk today, 3 litres of water at least , need to get rid of the huge holiday weight gain

    @lilymartin @ saffy420 lunck….love it!!! Please wish me lunck today 😆
    Wishing everyone lunck today

Oh, I had great plans to get Feb Challenge out yesterday but stuffing my face took precedence. I promise in the next day or so to get it set up. Think I am going to need it the most 😉

    Day 23 – Hampshire, UK – NFD

@belfastsink thank you very much for the warm welcome!

So first FD wasn’t so bad, I think once you are mentally prepared then the hunger doesn’t catch you by surprise, I definitely found it much harder first time I did this diet. I felt pretty good this morning too, no bloating and my jeans weren’t as tight (I know its only been 1 day lol). I couldn’t resist the scales and I was 1.2Kg down already, I know its not just water because I drank 3 litres yesterday but it will go up & down no doubt until my end of week weigh in, I would be over the moon with a 2kg loss for the week!!!

I will be going to the gym for my weight lifting tonight, been changing my routine a little which has massively increased my muscle weight so I will keep that in mind when I weigh myself – I don’t mind the muscle weight though – its all about how you look/feel 🙂

Good luck to today’s fasters – you can do this!!

    Day 23 UK CD

Slept like a baby after finishing yesterday’s FD with lovely supper. Must remember that to eat more slowly Ineed to have things in my supper that need chewing!

Drank 3 litres of water yesterday. It seems to be going up but i still felt thirsty waking up this morning – clearly my body needs it for something. Not weighed yet – running late.

Really full couple of days but just beginning to feel on top of the idea of it if not the work itself, and a bit less stressed. Then an email came last night asking me to take on a huge project at short notice that I simply couldn’t understand. It doesn’t fit into my natural skillset and I’ve got SOOOOO much else to get through. I went through the whole gamut of emotions from panic to stress to anger to overwhelm to anxiety, and could feel the temptation to Eat. Resisted and tried to let it go with a long hot bath & an early night. Hopefully I can think it through and respond today.

    Onwards and downwards.

Day 23, London, UK, FD (1st of B2B2B)

    Quick check-in today.

Feeling ok, despite sitting up here on the dreaded plateau, like a lot of you, I’m doing everything right (ok, so there were some chocolate truffles this weekend!!) but the lbs are staying put, I suppose it’s better than reacquiring!!!

As I get closer to February 1st, thoughts of ‘Red, red wine goes to (thro’) my head’!!!!! It isn’t a problem, but the plateau & bouncy-bouncy scales mean resolve is dwindling, it’s bad when you start counting down hourly!!!!! I hear ya @bigviking!!!

Anyway, keeping the faith and putting these difficulties down to increased exercise, although I weigh daily, I only measure my bits at the end of the month, so if not lbs let there be fewer inches!!!!

I suppose what I’m saying is, I’m writing January off and resetting for Feb, unless there’s a miraculous 6lb whoosh over the next week!!!

Good lunck(!) & Stay strong everyone!!

Does anybody fancy joining me on a FD today? Back from Rome, didn’t drink, thank goodness, but ate lots of food when I wasn’t really hungry just to be sociable. How stupid is that? I’m just desperate to feel well, and when I eat pasta, pizza etc. etc. etc. I really don’t feel right. So, pocket list for today. And hello fellow dry Januaryans.

    Day 23, Newcastle UK, FD

Good FD achieved yesterday. That will have negated some of the weekend’s damage. Going for a 2nd today and will need a controlled Wednesday & Thursday too.

True to what I have read, 4 weeks after giving up alcohol and my sleep is vastly improved. I wish I’d read ‘Alcohol Explained’ in my young teens and never started drinking in the first place (not that it had been written then). Fortunately I am still enjoying beer and wine – because that is what AF beer and wine is – it’s the same drink with the poisonous element removed. Now what’s not to like about that.

Day 23 Newcastle UK NFD 🇬🇧.
Yesterday’s fast day completed under 600 calories. Now can I keep control of the non fasting day today. Might do a nice liver bacon and sausage casserole I love comfort food this time of year or should I have a small bowl of muesli lol

    Day 23……Florida…..FD

Not sure what happen yesterday. For whatever reason, my post didn’t post. I’m feeling much better but I’m still having a bit of nasal congestion but I’m sure soon enough that will be gone to….

I did decide to step on the scales since the 1st and I’m down about 2lbs. I did step on it sooner about half way but I was so sick I didn’t count it.

@xrox…… so, nice to see you!

    Well……

I’m going outside to stand, so if anyone ask just tell them I’m OUTSTANDING!

    Day 23 Wales NFD

Good FD yesterday and happy to say feeling better after the virus. I’ve realised I’m a bit odd here because I find NFDs easy to control and I’m wondering if it is because I’ve cut out refined carbs and sugars – for me they are foods I just can’t control, just a taste of cake would likely set off a binge!

Good lunck for a great day everyone 🙂

    Day 23- Colorado – FD

Just returned from quick 5 day trip to Orlando Florida. Surprised my mother-in-law for her 80th birthday. Lovely trip!

On the days we went to Universal Studios/ Islands of Adventure, we ended up walking over 6 + miles (10 K) everyday. Lots of stairs, my legs really felt it! No FD, but was careful to skip random meals. Only ate 2 x each day, depending on whether family wanted breakfast or lunch that day. Then we always ate dinner together.

Up a bit in weight from the trip, but I’m back to work now & these upcoming FDs ought to knock it off again.

    Day 23 USA (ILLINOIS) FD

Working on getting home internet issues fixed, so posting from phone. I usually use iPad or computer, so this is a pain.
    Onward and downward.

    Day 23, FD, USA

Doning another B2B today. They seem to work for me and fit with my work schedule; what’s not to like!

I like the phrase “won’t power”, Lilymartin. I might have to adopt that one myself.
