  • Wow! symba7 That is a fantastic achievement.

I am not optimistic about the weigh in tomorrow, but quite curious about the measure now.

Skipped my way to work, high on the skirt news. Trudged home with gifts from staff at work with a bottle of wine and x3 boxes of chocolates!!!!!!!!!!

I have lost another lb but it is one of the 2 lb that I have lost and gained for weeks.I was a bit fed up, but I have had only one fast day this week.I also haven’t ran in a fortnight. The aim is to run 5 miles this morning and then the 6 mile race next week.I am hoping that my hip holds up.

Next week at work there will be 2 Christmas dinners. Oh no! 2 Christmas puddings…such hardship!!!

My new goal is to reach 10 stone(63kg)before Christmas, so just 2 lb to go…but it has been weeks trying to shift that elusive 2 lb.BUT my shape has changed and waist and thighs are slimmer-hurray!

way to go Symba!!you are doing well!

Annette, oh, my,wine and chocolates! I’ll bet you WILL make that goal by Christmas. my daughter has been dealing with gaining and loosing the same two lbs for a bit, but it seems to have broken. we really only did 1 day this week, she is still loosing, slowly, but loosing.

you are still loosing inches, that’s great. Be easy with yourself, and don’t push that hip too much. I’m impressed with all that you have accomplished, all that running!! wishing you luck with your next week. Phyllis

I thought I congratulated you Symba, sorry, pilot error, well done!

Annette? Go you! I couldn’t walk 6 miles, let alone run, maybe one day!

    Hi Fast Friends,
Just back from 5 mile run.A bit sore at the start but the hip warmed up and was fine. I am forever grateful to the magic hands of the osteopath.

The wine and chocolates will be shared, but I have no doubt that there will be more before the end of next week and term end.It is such a lovely gesture but I always make sure that it is shared out over Christmas.

I am thrilled by the inches lost, but have promised myself a rather fab pair of earrings when I reach 10 stone….and I have waited for ages.Although I regularly pick up that 5Kg bag of rice and remind myself that I have lost 2 of those bags. It is awesome. It would be a perfect end to the year to lose those pesky 2 lbs.

It’s never to late to start running.I never believed that I would be able to run any distance, not sporty at all.I needed something cheap, easy to do that I could do at short notice. I tried the gym for a while, but it bored be witless. Now at the weekend, we look at what the weather is going to be like and pick the best time to go….it’s raining now.Running is fabulous for toning legs, bum, tum and arms too.Give it a go. Try one of the many couch potato to 5K programmes that you can download.

I do have to remind myself that it is a marathon and not a sprint.

Hello fast friends. Hope this finds you well. It’s really good to see how everyone is doing. I don’t comment on here very often as I find it difficult to communicate naturally online and text but I wish you all the best. I feel what i write is stilted and not as good as other posters which are full of personality. My stuff I know.Am much better face to face or even talking on phone. My week on this challenge started with 4 days of overindulging. I then compensated with 3 fast days in a row (W,Th, F). Although I got through it by gritting my teeth it felt really hardcore but not really sound/healthy.Lost 3lbs but won’t do that again. We live & learn πŸ™‚
My measurements look about the same Annette but I’m in smaller jeans again. Measurements for me are not an accurate indicator (my lack of skill/consistency)
going to keep weebling along. All best. x

Hi,Annette, and other fast dieters, hubby and I have run twice this week for the first time in ages! ( it’s been quite a while since I did the London marathon) it’s so much easier when you’re lighter. I’m well jel of you though for being down to ten stone! I’ve just gone under 11 (well 10st12lb) and 10 stone still seems far away. I’ve lost 22lbs so far since July so it’s not going too badly. It would be poetic to be 61kg by my 61st birthday in February but it seems unlikely.
Had a right giggle earlier when hubby was trying on clothes that are now way too big for him-his trousers were falling down without having to undo them.
Keep up the good work and enjoy Christmas.

Time4change I just write how I talk. Those that know me would say that I talk too much! It is just lovely to hear how everyone is doing. Great to hear about the smaller jeans.Whoop whoop!!!

sonunda Impressive that you have run the London Marathon. Respect.I have 2 lb to shift to get to 10 stone…and you will all know about it when I do!It is much easier to run when there is less to drag around. A 10K next Sunday(I will be last)another in January and the final 10K of the series in Feb…and then the local Half marathon in very early March. The weeks are ticking by a bit too fast. You have lost an amazing amount of weight. Well done. Very amused by your husbands trousers falling down! You must both be thrilled.February and 61Kg seems very doable given your current loss.

    Hello
There are pretty positive results, in spite of all the tripping yule-tide logs planted in our ways!

    Time4change,
Post when you can, electronic communication is not very natural to a lot of people.
Don’t know how you did 3 consecutive days – personally I would not do it, as we are told that more than one fasting day takes the body in to starvation mode and muscle wastage may occur, each to their own, but I don’t have enough muscles to throw away πŸ™‚

I’m really trying hard, led my first Ramblers walk today, hard work, my respect goes out to people that have carried me on healthy walks for so long.
    Felt good to help others.
Progress is slow, but in the right direction.
I think my way forward is to try and exercise a bit more, but not worry too much about munching/sleeping – albeit not allowing too much advent antics.
    Cheers

    Hello Fast friends,

Just back from a a Christmas do, not seen our work colleagues since last Christmas. I got, “you look fabulous” , “you look good”, “you look really healthy”, ” really fantastic ” …..nobody said you have lost weight…hubby said they have seen the change but don’t know what! Nobody patted the tummy and said, you have put loads of weight on like the year before! To both of us.

Sonunda… My hubby’s trousers was around his ankles all the time, he now has a pair of braces to hold them up! He says more comfy than a belt until he buys more new trousers. His trousers are only lasting a month when they go slack again!

Annette & Sonunda & Hubby….you do really great doing the running. Wish I could but nearly 65 and feet not so good, think I will have to continue with swimming!

Snedger.. Good to see you have gone on the rambler walk, envy you, long time since I did that…40 years since…happy memories.

Time4change…really good to get in the smaller jeans……Well Done

I think I agree with your husband symba7! When I got my braces off I thought it was the most obvious thing. My friends who I saw every day could see something was different but couldn’t work out what.
Congratulations on all the compliments, and the lack of tummy patting!!

Well done symba,so pleased it went well for you. Was there a bit of jealousy creeping in I wonder? You’ve done amazingly well!

    +4.5lb for me today.
Might be something to do with Friday cancelled fast ‘cos of pudding night with 6 puds; Saturday 15″ pizza and Sunday all you can eat Indian buffet.
I’d forgotten how much my stomach capacity has shrunk by – very uncomfortable.

    Hello All,
Not going to be a good week.Full days filming on Sunday, which was lots of dancing…but there were loads of cakes, fish and chips for lunch.Meal out with a chum moving on work wise….burger and chips.

Also got x2 Christmas Dinners and a party to go this week. Might abandon fast days this week and get back in the game next week when I am on holiday from work.I need to get swimming next week on the fast days which always seems to get the scales moving.

    Hello!

After a 12 pound loss, I stayed the same this week, but was fine with that as my shape is changing! The flab around my stomach and thighs is going away. I only have another 12 pounds to lose, so this flab decrease is a huge bonus!

And of course, I feel fab doing this fasting! and I acutally look forward to the fast days now – it’s like break, a rest and a treat for my body.

    Be well

    Janice

PS if you haven’t tried pure Matcha green tea – do! it is a real energizer! pow!

Hello beadybliss and welcome. Well done on the 12lb loss, you must feel fab!

I have come home from work with more gifts of cake, toffee and chocolate. It feels a bit of a conspiracy..but they all know that they are the things that I love. I am blessed.

It’s quite weird that the growing pile of chocs etc hold no allure. I know that I will share them with my chaps to minimize the damage!

Christmas dinner tomorrow. Dancing this evening.

Snedger, I feel for you x

“and Sunday all you can eat Indian buffet” Sounds like heaven, may your god bless you! And your tummy is telling you enough is enough? That’s great, I wish mine was!

I wish you a better week this week. Currently I’ve got back from a very sick friend who kept ladeling Baileys into me whilst she offloaded, thank god it’s a feast day, but even so, I’m glad I’m fasting tomorrow!

    Aud x

    Hi beadybliss!

    12lbs?! WOOOHOOO!! Go you!
“it’s like break, a rest and a treat for my body”
I know what you mean, a manageable de-tox!

Well done! I hope I can post one day with your great news.
    Aud x

PS I see many on here swear by green tea but I was sick on it once, *really* sick, and even the smell puts me off. Horses for courses… ;D

    Enjoy your dance, Annette!

    Aud x

I put on an old favorite top and black pants to take my kids out for brunch yesterday. “Nice” said my daughter,as if it were new. “Makes you look younger.” said the son. Neither mentioned 10kg less of me.

    Hi RoBa,

I find it strange, people know there is a difference but don’t know what!

A really good weight loss. Hope you had a good brunch with the family.

Lots of us will look good for the Christmas do’s this year……

    @symba7
” people know there is a difference but don’t know what!”

Have you tried saying, ‘I know what you’re thinking, but that’s not it.’

    And walk away?

    ➰

    Hi All,

No swimming for me today, woke up with sore throat, cough and ear ache. Continuing on with Fast Day but not looking forward to weigh in don’t think it will be a good week. A bit more wine than usual and meal out with work colleagues.

A very upside down house, hubby decided we wanted a new kitchen, all ripped out ready to go after Xmas! Both plastering walls, sanding down, dust everywhere and painting. Haven’t done much walking but both very busy and shattered……Lovely time of the year to do it. Every room has some kitchen things in…only the bathroom and down stairs loo has escaped. I know it should be nice when done. Maybe another time would have been better! Good job we are away for Christmas.

Good luck everybody on any weight loss which is possible this month.
    X

    A good reply Rockyromero….

    Hello
What a genius idea- destroy kitchen and so no food – wow, why didn’t I think of that πŸ™‚
There was a guy on one of my walking groups who latched on to me and we would chat together. From about the time I started fasting ’til my max weight loss I didn’t see him and then on one walk I tried to strike up the old conversation and I was a stranger, he did not recognise me at all – and the fuss I received about being so much better beingg thinner felt insulting to my younger self.
Personally I’d rather not be noticed – but that is just me.
    Cheers
    Ian

    Hi All,

Well I have got my 28 lbs / 2 Stone off for my Christmas target. I am so very pleased.

I am really at my goal weight. I maybe would like 7 lbs off but I am not going to chase a unrealistic target, I will let my body decide. As Annette says I don’t want to look scrawny and drawn but healthy!

Hubby has stayed the same this week, so still 28 lbs off, but he’s OK with that. As we was out eating and drinking last weekend.

Going away for three days for a Christmas meal joining friends this weekend. Having a quiet time from my upside down house!

Ian……must be lovely to be not recognised after the great weight loss….you can choose your friends again!!

    Good luck to everybody,

    Jean

    symba7 Well Done!!!!!!!!

Ian. Look on the positive. The change in your appearance must have been radical for him not to recognize you.I was upset when a friend that I haven’t seen for 2 years came to stay and never once made any reference to my size or shape. She made several references to her own weight gain, but none at all to my loss. Go figure.

I have now been to one works party(fab food) and eaten x2 works Christmas Dinners, there has been wine, cake and chocolate.I am trying to prepare myself for the scales and the tape measure tomorrow! On the plus side, I wore a rather simple Little Black Dress to said Do and got loads of compliments.I would never have been able to wear such a dress this time last year and felt good. The table is groaning with gifts of chocolate, biscuits, wine etc.

I am so thrilled to find myself weight/size where I am today. So what ever the numbers are prior to Christmas, I am really very happy.

Yo to that Annette. Yo ho ho even. I’m thrilled to have lost weight and become healthier, and I’m trying to not obsess about christmas and seeing all my sisters and hoping they notice how much I’ve lost. Ten days to go and I will WILL be under 70kg. And, perhaps, next christmas I will be at my long term fighting weight goal of 65kg and not even thinking about it at all. And whatever I wear on Christmas day it won’t be something frumpy from the fat end of the wardrobe.

Happy festives everyone. Really good to hear how this is working. Really pleased you’ve reached your target Symba, well done! What a lovely Christmas present to yourself. Annette too – how lovely to be wearing your LBD and getting such lovely feedback. Feeling & looking better is bound to put the spring back in your steps ladies πŸ™‚
I’ve stayed exactly the same weight this week. A bit of a shame as I’ve had a good week but I did lose 3lbs last week so can’t complain. I’m planning to continue with 5:2 next week and then have 2 weeks off from next Saturday.
What are the plans for the Xmas challenge please Annette? Are we weighing in next week too?
Have a good weekend everyone. Here’s to seeing less of each other πŸ™‚

RoBa – so pleased you can choose something lovely to wear on Christmas day! It is a great feeling isn’t it?

    Cath x

Annette52 – people are strange aren’t they? I’m convinced that they do notice but sometimes can’t bring themselves to pay you a compliment. Sounds like you looked great in your LBD anyway – and that you felt great which is actually the most important thing!

I’ve just invested in a striped sweater dress that puts me in mind of a similar dress that I absolutely loved that I bought for my 16th birthday (!) when I was a slim young thing. This one is not so clingy (obviously) and has black side panels to give the ‘illusion’ of being slimmer. I love it. Not yet worn it in front of anyone other than husband and friends I see every week. Next week will be interesting as I am seeing various people for the first time since starting 5:2 – I wonder what their reaction will be?

    Cath x

    Hello Fast Friends,

Thanks for the positive vibes re the LBD, but I appear to have put on 4 lb. OMG!

I have been fed-up all day, but also keep reminding myself how much less there is of me now.

I have another party Friday and then another Saturday….the Gods are against me.

I have a cross country 10K to run tomorrow am which I am dreading.

Annette, I bet you looked just great in the LBD and felt it, don’t worry on the 4 lbs it will all come off in the New Year. There will be a few OMG’ s from a lot of us I am sure….Good luck on your 10k..

Cathyork, impress in your new stripped dress…..sounds lovely..

RoBa, go from the slim side of wardrobe….sisters will definitely notice the slim you…

Time4change, you can’t loose 3 lb every week! You do better than most of us….Like you I will be signing off for two weeks …Christmas is Christmas and I will eat, drink and get the weight off in New Year!

Yes, well done everyone.I completely agree symba7 with all that you say.

Just back from the muddiest 10K I have ever experienced. Rather than just run, we had to slide up and down steep banks of tree roots and rocks, which were covered in the gloopiest mud and then run on through the fields and then repeat the whole process. So rather than take 1.15h it took almost 2! I am completely shattered.

Not sure what to do on the food front, whether to fast this coming week with parties and a house full. Or fit 2 fast days in this week with some swimming to minimize the damage of Christmas.

Harm minimisation: is that a term we can adopt? I’m sure that I just won’t feel as gluttonous this year as I have in the past. Something about 5:2 has just thrown a switch for me and I really don’t feel I want or need all that food anymore. Where once I couldn’t stop till the plate of mince pies was empty, and I couldn’t bare to see the fat being cut off the ham, now I’m really happy to eat less of the best things and leave the rest. I might not fast as often over the holidays but I’m sure my overall intake will be much much less than in previous years.

I’m envious of that hard slog run, annette, even though it sounds like hard work, so it seems it is time for me to think post-christmas and decide some New Year resolutions. I’m going to swim. Snorkelling in the ocean, laps in the pool. I’m going to get my little row boat wet a lot more often in 2014. And I’m going to get to 65kg and I’m going to fast regularly for the rest of my life. So there.

Don’t envy me RoBa. I am broken, everything aches and stairs are going to be a challenge.

The row boat and Snorkelling in the ocean sound fabulous.

BTW does anyone have any ideas to cure hunger when home from school. i used to bury myself in homework but sometimes i just can’t help tucking in… thanks

If you are not over 18, then you shouldn’t be doing the 5:2.

I find that a cup of lemon and ginger tea or even ordinary tea works for me.Or an apple, but my favourite is a couple of raw carrots.

Still sore after such a muddy run, but off to Ceroc shortly. Last one of the year, sadly.

Hi, I haven’t been on the forum for a while but thought I’d check in with my good news. After almost five months on 5:2 and having just had a blood test for my diabetes and thyroid function – I have slowly lost 18lbs, my blood sugars are perfect and I must now reduce my thyroxine from a dose I have been on for 20years! I have LOTS more weight to lose but I feel my bloods more than bear out Michael Mosley’s claims. This Christmas I will be hitting the sales with new vigour as my clothes are starting to hang off me. Happy days!

Fantastic news Beth5! You must be thrilled. What a wonderful Christmas present to yourself. Well Done.

Have a lovely time at the sales, but don’t spend too much because you will be replacing it all again in the spring!

Thanks Annette52, I will try not to spend too much on clothes but it very tempting (great to think I will still be shrinking!). I have a couple of nights out over the next week but I think I will still be able to have my two fast days. I never thought I’d say this, but I almost crave my Monday fasts after the weekend, the body definitely gets used to this way of eating.

Well done Beth, and all the others rocking on to christmas with some success in losing weight and improving health. Annette started this thread (thanks again) to help us focus on the way we look and feel in our clothes rather than fixate on the scales. I’ve read people on other threads groaning about 175gm lost or gained and I’ve thought ‘gosh, I’ve emptied more than that from my bladder in thirty seconds’ or ‘I’ve done bigger bowel movements than that.’

To me the gratification of fitting into an old loved dress or trousers is a much bigger thrill than hitting a number on the scales, and to go shopping for a smaller size is great fun. But really, what cranks my engine is the feeling of getting back to the real me, paring the body down to a size and shape that is something close to my self image. I no longer get a surprise when I catch my reflection in a shop window. I recognise myself for the first time in several years.

Roll on 2014 and even less of me to see.

    Morning fast friends!

For some reason my pc has stopped sending me updates from the forum – so Ive just had an enjoyable few minutes catching up with all your news! Great to hear everyone being so positive – despite muddy runs, chaotic kitchens and the odd lb going in the wrong direction.

I’m looking forward to Christmas – so far, not too much temptation has come my way, although I know there will be chocolate around from Christmas morning. I did fancy trying to make Bailey’s flavoured chocolate truffles and then wondered if that was such a good idea. One of the ways Ive managed to cut back is by doing less baking etc as I find I can resist a packet of biscuits but not home made puddings or cakes!

I’m still very positive about 5:2 although I do think the fast days are tougher as the weather gets colder. The body seems to crave casseroles and golden syrup sponge rather than salads! I’ve bought my first pair of trousers in my original size and am having to use a belt with the rest of my jeans. A couple of people have remarked on my weight loss and a lady at the gym went back home and bought the 5:2 diet book after we had a chat about it! My first target was to be lighter than my male trainer at the gym (he is quite skinny!) – and Ive done that. My second target was to reach 10 st by Christmas and Ive done that too – hurrah!! I’m still a bit tummified, being a classic apple shape, so Im aiming to get down to my pre-children weight of 9.5 st, but if I find that I get too gaunt, I’ll adjust that target. As everyone has worked out on this thread of the forum, it is hte way you feel and look rather than the tyranny of the scales that matters!

However, to be fair to the scales, I have found them quite a helpful motivator! If I weigh myself on the morning of a fast day and have gone up a lb, I tell myself that’s why Im fasting. If I’ve lost a lb, I tell myself the 5:2 is going brilliantly and that gets me through another fast. Win win!

I must admit, though, that although the 5:2 has rebooted my attitude to food and my intake generally, I still dont find fast days easy – or look forward to them as some folks do! So if I do get to a point where I’m less of an apple, and down to my last target weight, how will I motivate myself to keep going with the 5:2 on one maintenance track of one fast day a week?

I’d be interested to hear what others think. When you have reached your targets, and you are dancing around in your skinny jeans, will you still be able to motivate yourself to keep fasting one day a week? Maybe I need to write out all the possible health benefits and pin them to my wall!!

    Hi Fastday Friends,

Really good news Beth, and everybody else pushing forward with their losses. I think everybody has done really well to the Christmas goals and ready to make new ones for next year. (and Keep)

Really bad week health wise I have come down with a Viral infection, throat, ears, headache and chesty coughing! Just starting to improve, Hubby looks as if he is now joining me. Although doing our Fast days….nearly …and no swimming. I have lost 1 lb, making 29 lbs off, and down to 25.1 BMI which I am very pleased with. Hubby stayed the same at 28 lbs off.

We are now on our Christmas break for 2 weeks from our Fasting but will start again on the 6 th January. ( I will still be in and out of the forum)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to All, hoping everybody has a good one.

    Jean x

    Hello Fast Friends,
It has simply been too complicated with parties, meals out etc to fast for the last few weeks.I have not made my goal of 10 stone, the same few lbs move up and down but my shape continues to define.

I was thinking about why I started this thread in August. It was against the tyranny of the scales that caused so much despair when it was quite clear to me that there were great changes in the shape of my body, even when the scales didn’t move or the weight went up.

This time last year I was a rather overweight short woman of 5ft 1, with psoriasis and high blood pressure who weighed a stonking 12 stone,BMI 30.5, size 14/16 and was miserable.

Today I am 10st 5lb, BMI 26, size 10/12 with normal blood pressure and no psoriasis.I have also had to replace most of my clothes, so have become a charity shop convert. I feel so much better and look so much better.I am getting used to my reflection in shop windows. I now have an hour glass figure with a clearly defined waist and teeny tiny abs(which thrill me). My thighs don’t rub together, I can run much better and faster now, my knees no longer ache, I am not out of breath when I walk uphill.

I plan to continue the break until after Christmas.I too will be popping into the forum to see the news.Thank you all for the support and I wish you all a happy and healthy Christmas and new year.

    Jean,
An ill body is a stressed one. If you fast as well you will stress it further. Forget the fast, rest and get well.Congratulations on the amazing weight loss of both of you. Well done.

reluctantmultitasker Wow! You have done so well smashing 2 goals!

I have no idea what will be a good weight for me. My aim was to get to 9st 11 lb and reach the BMI of 25. Then learn’t that BMI was a construct dreamt up by the insurance industry and that the new goal from the medics is a waist less than half your height. Plus I know that I have much more muscle now as a result of running, so I will weigh more. My legs and arms are much more defined.

I have a Half Marathon in 11ish weeks. So between now and then will have to get the running up to a very comfortable 13ish miles, which is rather scarey.I want to beat my last PB of 2.36h and to get as close to 2h as possible.

So with that in mind, I plan to get back to the 5:2 after Christmas and see what weight/size I am on 2nd March(half marathon). I have another 3 inches off my waist to lose yet anyway, so that might be about right.

way to go all! I have just reached 10 stone.

Jean, I hope you feel better.

Piper, congrats and well done! Are you at your goal weight now? Will you fast over Christmas? We are taking a break and will be back into it after the hols. Fast well all.

    thank you annette,

i hope you get on well too and have a happy Christmas!

i found that too….i obsessed over the numbers instead of the mirror (well actually i did both but anyway)

    lol

    Hi Annette

Yes this ‘How much should I weigh?” question is a good one. I set out to lose some weight and my ‘wheat belly’ without a particular goal in mind, but as I am on the the road to success (thank you 5:2) I am giving the matter some thought. Already in the normal BMI range for what that is worth, so decided to ask some other diet sites.

1). In the Fast-5 book Dr Herring suggests 100 lbs for a 5 foot person plus 5 lbs for every additional inch, giving me a goal of 120 lbs. I have a dim memory of being 8 stone something in the iron age …
2). Weight watchers asked me my age, height and current weight and gave me a BMI range of 8 stone 4.5 lbs to 10 stone 5.6 lbs and told me I was healthy.
3). Slimming World did not ask my age and told me I had a healthy BMI of 23.
4). Atkins asked my age and told me my target weight is 9 stone 3 lbs (129 lbs)
5). The ideal weight calculator at http://www.calculator.net bases on age, height and weight came up with:

    Robinson formula (1983). 123
    Miller formula (1983). 129.1
    Devine formula (1974). 120.6
    Hamvi formula (1964). 119.7

I have no idea what all these are, but interesting how they have risen with time.

For now I think I will set my target to 9 stone and keep an eye on the flab. No heroic 4:3 for me.

Good luck with the half marathon.
