  • Fishing gran – you go girl, you’re back in the 5:2, action and mindset and going well! It’s all a journey.

You’re right dumpling – eating and mingling is the problem!

    Wow
    Nasty !

So I start this thread on page one then you report me.
    Cheers

If you look through any of my posts ( I’ve done about 50 over 3 years it involved food and eating) hence my weight gain

As you are all maintaining now and have forgotten the pull of food maybe start a southern hemisphere maintaining one and just talk about cafes you are opening etc.. And keep this one for newbies with all their hang ups with food.

    Unbelievable !?!

    Its christmas…there is FOOD!

Yes, give the new people precedence.
I’m an old poster from way back.
Make sure the forum police keep me under control by banning me!

I didn’t realise there were rules
It was always meant to be a safe place to share, warts and all.
But I guess it changed from what we had hoped in the beginning.

@dumpling. Perhaps Merryme has come in a little strong but it is a little strange that one should be talking “unhealthy” foods on a forum dedicated to gaining control of ones weight issues. Bit like a AA website where the poster is talking about the latest margarita recipe that is absolutely yum to drink.

When I first found this site there was a thread that was continually talking about cake/biscuit recipes. I thought it very strange at the time. Why not join a cooking forum if every time you posted it was for a new biscuit or cake recipe?

    Hi Everyone,

Things have just been very busy over the past few weeks – plus I have been on a Holiday to Christchurch – Very interesting place.

Anyway, I have been reading all your post and you have all done so well. I slipped off 5:2 when I went on holidays but it was for only a week and I did plenty of walking while there to compensate. Back on this week – FD Monday and Thursday (today).

Now I have learnt some things over the past 4 weeks or so while doing 5:2 – 1) on non fast days – eating normally is not about eating what you used to eat – fast food, processed food etc it is about eating normally – raw food made from plants and animals. Occasionally you might have the odd break out and have fast food and or processed food but this should not be the norm.

Someone mentioned Dr Jason Fung – well I went and purchased his book – The complete Guide to Fasting – it can be found on iTunes. WOW – what an eye opener this was ( to the person who suggested this a big Thank You). Everyone should read this book – it make so much sense. I have just down loaded a sample of a previous book The Obesity Guide – so I am looking forward to reading this.

Dr Jason Fung talks about FD days being 24hrs and or longer. When on a 24hr FD day you miss breakfast and lunch and then eat a small meal for dinner – e.g. from 7pm to 7pm. On FD days you can have Coffee, Tea,(you can use milk but only a small amount) Water and Bone Broth. Now I am just doing my first 24hr hour fast – nothing from 7pm last night – coffee this morning, water and green tea throughout the day and a coffee when I got home. Tonight at 7pm will have prawn soup – low cal but cannot remember the exact cal – 5 prawns, noodle, bok choy, garlic – add water – then microwave for 3 minutes and the you are done – soup that is very filling.

The thing is that Dr Jason Fung helps people with Diabetes type 2 as well as those who are overweight, through Fasting. The human body is one amazing thing and it is just about reprogramming ourselves. Fasting helps – to release the fat cells. Well enough, you will have to read the book if you want to know more – but I have learnt so much from his book and of course from the Fast Diet by Dr Michael Mosley and Mimi Spencer.

Our cupboards / fridge are being transformed with fresh fruit, vegetables and protein and less of the processed snack foods – although I will not give up potato chips (crisps) but have cut the pack size down and the amount of times I eat them. This is another issue like Cheese, but will work on it gradually.

Sorry for my rant but have been wanting to share – good luck to all those fasting today, keep up the good work, I believe it will be come easier!!!

    Ona

Ona what you wrote makes sense thanks for that must get that book.Merry i was wondering about the food posts as well but just scrolled past with out reading. I will be doing a 24 hr Fd i don’t usually have breakfast as it makes me hungry for the whole day so nothing until about 6pm tomorrow but liquids.

Hello Pintinlin – just out of interest, apparently when we lose weight it doesn’t magically ‘disappear’ – we pee it out as water (H2O) and breathe it out as carbon dioxide (CO2). Which makes sense to me as our bodies convert everything to a form of sugar (carbohydrate = CHO ie carbon, hydrogen, oxygen) to use, so in very basic terms, as we use it up, we pee out hydrogen and oxygen as water, and breathe out carbon and oxygen as carbon dioxide.
Not sure where I saw the explanation of this – possibly on abc.net.au somewhere? – so sadly I can’t give you the link. If I stumble across it again, I’ll post it.
Thank you for all the posts – I do read them.
I did apply for that little job at the university (very last minute due to exhaustion, but it is in!) – thank you for the encouragement.
I’ve been working insane hours as an assistant in nursing. Lots of night shifts “specialling”, and by the end of the fortnight I will have done over 100 hours, so while I am thrilled when I think of the paypacket, I am also very tired.
Luckily for us, since we live in Australia, I imagine most of us are likely to be doing forms of salads & seafood for Christas, so it is relatively easy to have a fairly healthy celebration without overdoing it too much.
If I don’t get back before then, I do wish all you (us!) a very happy, peaceful and loving Christmas, and good health and happiness in the New Year.
As Merry says – (I really do love this Merry!) onward and downward to us all.

Just a very quick read as I want to re pot my patio pot plants before my hairdresser’s appointment. Ona so happy you could connect with what Dr J Fung promotes…I find his WOL for health invaluable. Had my appointment at my doctor yesterday and she made me feel on top of the world. I mentioned that she is a Paleo follower but has told me to do what works for me. She was amazed at my weight loss for the month….3 kilos!!! She has never heard of Fung so I mentioned that she should check out his site. She is, however, familiar with Mosley. I also went shopping for some new clothes even though I have not reached my goal weight as there were so many specials and I desperately need new clothes. We are planning a simple Christmas feast as there will only be 5 of us as apposed to last year’s big gathering. Must go … have a great day.

    Good morning everyone!

CANNbewarra, I so glad you applied for that job! Best wishes. Amazing since you were so tired. All power to you. I hope the big fat paycheck arrives soon and then you can catch up on sleep and party in your new clothes!

Filicore, what a lovely lot of weight not to have to carry around any more!

    Fishinggran, enjoy your liquids!

So glad you are having such a lovely life change Ona!

    Cheers to everyone else!

It is a warm day so I think I will wear a sleeveless summer dress to meet Intesha. Ooo it feels very brave for someone who is used to covering herself up!

    Good morning everyone,
Chucked in doing a FD late yesterday due to a celebration for a friend moving interstate. When I say late yesterday I’m talking at about 7.00pm when I went and had a few drinks then a late dinner and today I am a bit disappointed that I didn’t continue as it had been a great day to that point.
I was giving my brother a hand demolishing a bridge in Holbrook NSW, working hard and had lots of water and a lovely salad with a can of tuna in it for lunch (total 500kj) which I had prepared in case of down time that did occur for an hour around lunchtime. I finished work and got home around 6.30pm. On the way home I was told our mate was coming around to my brothers for a farewell drink and I succumbed to the thought of a good time out with friends.
I’m not worried about changing FD’s but this is my first halted FD and I will be stronger from here on and not halt a FD again. The reason for being disappointed is I about to hit a milestone after the FD that I could see developing all week (which will happen again soon) but it feels like a missed opportunity.
I know many people halt FD’s within this forum and the great thing about 5:2 is we can reset tomorrow with no worries, I am just expressing my expectations of myself on this journey so as to share highs and lows experienced.
New FD will be Saturday to make up for half (insert expletive) Thursday.

Suppose it takes all sorts to fill this world.
This is a forum for people who wish follow this Way Of Life. I do not go onto the forum for “People who hate fasting” and say “You are an idiot if you do not fast”

Oh dear – looks like we have some unhappy people in the world

For myself, I am pretty happy as I was able to complete a FD yesterday and weighed myself this morning and was 600 gms down from Tuesday’s incomplete fast. My dogs are not chasing me, so I guess I smell OK.

Don’t give up regulars and allow this thread to be hijacked. As Merry says, Onwards and Downwards!!

Such a lovely catch up with Intesha (and her lovely friend). I think 5:2 people are very nice people! We had a great cuppa together and managed to chat non stop for an hour and a half!

Hope you have had a lovely rest of the day Intesha!

Joffy,, nice lesson, well learned, cheers for when it comes around again.

Nice work Wwall, I think you are smelling like Roses! (Yes I saw the message that has been removed)

Cheers everyone, especially those who are at the end of a fast day!

Thank you Cinque it was lovely meeting you. We have just been out for dinner such a lovely night.

Joffy, just prior to reading your post I had booked a motel in Holbrook for my return journey!

    Hi All,

Cinque and Intesha good to read of your get together!

    Well done wwall!

Joffy, I understand your disappointment about having abandoned the FD! Like you, I appreciate the flexibility that this WOL offers! Great that you’ve got another one planned going forward.

CAnnbawarra, I’m excited that you submitted the application for the university job!! Yay! Keep us posted on the progress with that!

Filicore, sounds like you’ve got a great doctor!! My doctor didn’t even know what ‘Intermittent Fasting’ was when I first mentioned it.

Yes, I’m with you Merry, about testing what works for us as individuals. So, the resistant starch works well for me in the form of cold potatoes and green bananas, but might not work for everyone. I mainly wrote about it as a possibility because potatoes get a bad rap in general, and many posts on this forum infer that potatoes can’t be healthy to consume in any way, shape or form due to the immediate conversion of starch to maltose in the mouth which is ready to enter the sweet spot at the top of the small intestine as a simple sugar which in turn spikes our blood glucose levels. All true, except when the potatoes are cooled.

I had a bit of an emotional issue today at work that got the better of me and so I indulged in an eating spree! I work in a health food shop part time and there is plenty of options that seem to call to me in such situations! Good thing tomorrow is a fasting day!

Hi all, thanks for the reference to Fung’s book, downloaded and started reading it last night. Samantha’s story was amazing. At the beginning of my journey I said that my body likes fasting, that fds are easy for me, I am very tempted to try a longer fast, but I will get thru the book first and then decide. I am very pleased to see that nutters rant removed. He or she needs help badly.
Back to back christmas functions again yesterday and today, I managed really well yesterday and will survive today as well. Can I sign off “onward and downward” as well.
    Lynn

    Good morning everyone,

Lael and Joffy – sometimes we eat way more than we planned and I think most people have this happen occasionally. Best to just use it as a learning experience in how we react in certain circumstances.

Joffy, these circumstances occasionally happen on a FD, but life is for living and the very occasional deviation on a FD is barely a blip in the big scheme of things. You have a good handle on your FDs, and a good attitude. This is a WOL (way of life) or WOE (way of eating) and we all come to learn what works best for each of us in our personal differences over time.

Lael – thanks for the explanation about the potatoes and the different starches. You know so much about this. It’s very interesting. I do like poatoes, I think they’re healthy and I do think they ‘ve got a bit of a bad reputation they may not deserve, especially if they come with the skin on. If cooking then cooling makes such a difference to the way the starch is digested then, when I’m fully on maintainence, that’s probably the way I’ll have them in moderation. They often seem to be cooked or presented with way too much fat and dressing in various forms also. I’ve never heard of the green versus ripe bananas, so that’s interesting too. They use them in Asian cooking I think, but it’s good to know if we plan to have any to go for the less ripe.

Check in – 63.2, so pretty much that’s where my baseline is now to begin the next bit of my journey. Between the trip overseas, a special birthday weekend for someone and a wee bit of Christmas, that’s a kg up, but I think I’m content with that. My goal now is to get through the silly season staying at that by continuing my FDs, not eating each nonFD till after 12, and being careful to go lower cal on most things and very small portions of the Christmas things. Dodging sugar at this time of year can be quite challenging at times. We had another travel day and flight yesterday to visit family for Christmas, so both OH (other half) did a FD. Having fun with the grandkids today๐Ÿ™‚

    Onwards and downwards,
and yes, anyone can borrow it๐Ÿ™‚

Hi! I’m fasting today as planned and it has turned out to be one of my more difficult FDs. I’m realizing that I might have been too ambitious at this point to fast on a work day, given my decline in energy levels over the past month due to those weeks with very little sleep. I’m struggling with fatigue, nausea, migraine, extra thick brain fog and shakiness.

I’ve had recurring thoughts of abandoning though am continuing on and am already planning an extra early night! I feel a tickle in my throat and this might also be part of the equation. It could be that my body is fighting infection.

Pintin, Joffy and all the others who are able to follow more strict fasting practices a la Jason Fung, I envy you! I wish I could do so as well!

Hi Lael, it seems like it is one of those “Think what you can do, and halve it. Think how long it will take, and double it.” times. Good luck getting through today and planning for an easier tomorrow!

    Hi everyone!
It is a beautiful evening here.
I am planning a fast day tomorrow, but one of my easier maintenance kind.

Hi all, I am reading Jason Fung’s book so fast that I will have to go back again to absorb it all. What he says about normal calorie restriction diets is fascinating, it explains why they all fail. His take on the biggest loser TV series is mind boggling, all contestants have a 99% fail rate when the show ends, they can never do a “reunion show”.
I am more tempted to do a week long fast than ever but I might try to build up to that.
I know this is a 5.2 forum, but will you let me document my longer fast here?

    What is the book called?

It’s called the complete guide to fasting

    Hi All,

I’ve always wondered why Jason Fung doesn’t sponsor his own forum? He has so many fans and there certainly seems to be a call for one given so many on this forum follow his recommendations. Anyway, reading your account will be for me will be a bit of a carrot dangled that I’m not able to eat, since due to my health issues, I’m not able to do any extra or longer fasts since I’m already struggling with 2 x 36 hour fast days a week.

Anyway, I did pull through yesterday’s fast, though to do so, I allowed myself extra calories which I feel made all the difference. Instead of eating 1/4 of my TDEE (350 calories), like I usually do on a FD, I ate the full 500 calories. This really helped me get through and I am happy to report that even though I ate the full 500 I’m 1.3 kg lighter from where I was before the fast. So, I’m actually I’m now at the low end of my goal weight envelope.

Good job for making it through your FD in your own way, Lael. I was thinking exactly the same thing about Jason Fung. His name certainly comes up a lot, doesn’t it?

It’s been good to read the updates from people we haven’t heard from in a while. Well done everyone.

Cinque, I was imagining you in your summer dress meeting Intesha on Friday. Pleased you both had a good time. I feel a bit left out stuck over here in the west – I have met three people from the forum which has been fun but they’re no longer posting.

As for me, it’s a normal Sunday FD, I’m working my way through FD ‘freezer surprises’ to make room for the once-a-year indulgences like the Christmas Bombe and Brandy Butter. I had already frozen both of those before realising, with a mixture of pride and disappointment, that I hadn’t licked the bowls or spoons. In the meantime, I’m enjoying a choc/mint tea Lael.

Joffy, thanks for ‘confessing’ about your FD diversion. I think what you wrote will help a lot of people. You have a great attitude to this WOL and I can’t wait to hear about that milestone when you’re ready to report.

We have quite a few posters on the Silly Season Challenge thread and it will be interesting to check in on 1 January and find out how everyone managed.

Have a great day all, and safe travels to those heading off for the holidays this week.

Leal and Thin, you can ask to join the FB page that supports Dr Fung: Fung Shweigh inspired by Dr. Jason Fung. I have done so, and it is full of wonderful success stories and support.

I bought the book and have just finished it. There is not a great deal that’s new, if you read his weekly blog, https://intensivedietarymanagement.com , which should be on the Christmas reading list of every medical professional on the planet!

I’m not planning anything more than 5:2 at the moment as it has worked so well for me, but the science of fasting is fascinating.

Cinque, I meant to thank you for the kind words and your support helped me get through yesterday.

Thin, I too enjoyed a cup of the choc mint tea during my fast yesterday! The thought of your Bombe and Brandy Butter in the freezer ready for Christmas celebration sounds festive! We’re going out for Christmas lunch, which isn’t the same as home cooked. I trust the Bombe will be delicious and good for you for not tasting as you went along cooking!

Barata, Great to read of the free Jason Fung forum on FB. I’m actually not so interested since as I wrote above, I’m not able to fast more vigorously than I already am doing on the 5:2 program. I’ve read Jason Fung’s blogs and interviews and such and though it is all great info and I respect his wealth of knowledge and how he’s helped many, his alternate day fasting, water fasts and longer fasting time frames definitely won’t work for me due to my chronically low cortisol levels and related adrenal fatigue issues. Jason admits that this in an interview; when Jason was queried about following his program if struggling with adrenal fatigue. I’ve got the link to that interview if anyone is interested.

By the way, I feel extra grateful that Michael Mosley experimented and helped develop the 5:2 method of fasting that IS doable for me with my health issues. Even if I may at times need to drop down to one fasting day a week, I’ve already proven that I’ll be able to continue this as a way of life. And it is the best that I can do.

    Hi Everyone,

Being new to this forum and now seriously taking the fasting side of things seriously, I find it interesting on how fasting works for different people.

I did find that Dr Jason Fung does have his own website for his clinic called Intensive Dietary Managment where he treats people from all over the world. https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/theory/

He also is a contributor to the dietdoctor and have found this page useful.
    https://www.dietdoctor.com/intermittent-fasting

I too will check out his FB page. True it would be good if Dr Jason Fung had his own forum page.

Pintinlin – I would be interested in how you go with your longer fast, I am trying 24hrs and did one successfully last Thursday – my next one is tomorrow. Maybe if you start a new thread and then those of us who are interested in this could follow your journey?

Those who have been contributing to this thread for a while have done an amazing job on finding out what works for them and there is plenty of support for those looking to do 5:2 way of fasting.

I guess for me it is finding my way and also sharing along the way to find out if what I am reading has been tried by others. There is so much about Fasting now days – it can become very confusing.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you all for sharing your journey, your support for each others journey has been inspirational. I hope you all have a great Christmas and New years and hope that 2017 is another successfully year.

    Take Care everyone
    Ona

Hi Ona, I did see that Jason Fung is featured on the dietdoctor website. For all those who are interested, dietdoctor does offer a members forum and anyone interested can join for $9 a month.

    Good evening everyone,
Thankyou all for the supportive posts regarding my abandoned FD. I was disappointed with myself but the next FD gets you back into normal again. I made sure I posted about it because I had read others reporting their hard days and everyone has them be it fasting or other things.
Lael your change of calorie intake on FD’s or one of your FD’s is maybe your trick for maintaining and keeping on with this WOE.
Intesha, I am working there again on Monday for as long as they are ready for me. I will be in a bright yellow shirt, bought a new one today the old ones are too old, driving an orange saw.
I completed my FD on Saturday as planned though it will turn this week into an alternate FD week due to fasting Monday and I plan to do Wednesday due to commitments. This is OK and makes up for the Thursday debacle or maybe it’s punishment as I could have done my make up day on Friday last week but sub-consciously I made myself do it on Saturday so as to end up having to do alternate FD’s for a week. Oowwww (ghostly sound) Karma or dark forces at work here. Ha ha maybe stupid bloke not thinking ahead.
    Meals for the day:
    1 x white coffee 150kj,
    Tuna salad containing 100g x cherry tomatoes 65kj, 100g x cucumber 40kj, 50g x capsicum 60kj, 20g x onions 20kj, 30g x lettuce 7kj, 90g x tuna in springwater (drained) 400kj, half a squeezed lime 10kj and 1tsp of red wine vinegar 4kj for dressing. Salad total 606kj or 145 cals.
    500g x minestrone soup 800kj, 100g x kidney beans 400kj Total for the day 1956kj
    or 467 cals.

The extra tuna salad makes the day a lot easier and not much more in energy, I might keep it up through the holidays.

Hi Joffy where in Holbrook are you working, I might come and stalk you!!! Staying overnight tonight before heading back to Sydney tomorrow.

    Hi everyone,

Yet another birthday celebration for a little someone special this last weekend, 2 in 2 weekends! Enjoying my FD today to reset things! Birthday child’s mum is so good at providing healthy food everyone loves, she forgot to make the fairy bread! No children complained or noticed it wasn’t there.

Am trying to determine how much wriggle room to leave now I’m looking at maintenace. If my normal weight is 62kgs: should wriggle room be 61-63kgs, so a kg lower or higher, or be 62-63 or 62-64? Any suggestions? My BMI at 62kgs is high 22’s. Am also wondering if I should eventually get down to 60kgs and make 62kgs the top of my wriggle room.

Lael, I hope you are feeling a bit better soon. You’Ve done an awesome thing getting through your studies. Rest and stay well.

    Onwards and downwards,
    Merry

Morning Merry, how are you? My suggestion would be to aim to stay between 60 and 62kgs. Remember how I’ve been saying that maintenance 5:2 looks a lot like weight loss 5:2? Well, I believe you feel a lot better about yourself if you nip it in the bud as soon as you hit that trigger weight. So, 62kg would be your trigger weight. If you get above that, you immediately do something about it. If you go below 60kgs and don’t want to lose any more weight, you can eat slightly more on FDs; do one less FD; experiment with re-introducing a few foods you’ve cut out (like pumpkin!) or enjoy some indulgences like meals out – or any combination of the above. It’s a wonderful place to be – congratulations on achieving it!

Hi everyone! I’m new to this, nearly finished my fifth FD (so starting week 3). I’ve only lost 300g in the two weeks since I started, but have lost centimetres. I have 30 kg to lose, so will be in for the long haul – but I like the idea of the other health benefits, like lower blood pressure and less risk of diabetes.

Very cool to know a few Kiwis are doing this; I’m in Auckland, on the North Shore.

Welcome Marinermum! Congratulations on shedding the centimeters and good for you for measuring! I wished I’d measured everything and weighed before starting, but I didn’t want to face reality at the time!!! Maybe you are building lean muscle mass as you shed fat, hence the number on the scale looking less than expected?

Merry, thank you for your words of support. At the moment I’m feeling better! I have a bit of trepidation about my fasting day tomorrow, though at least I will be at home and not working, so I’m hoping it will be easier than on Saturday! I keep reading how lack of sleep mucks everything up and I guess at my age (60 years), more so.

Thin, I’m appreciating reading your words of maintenance wisdom! I’ve kind of wondered the same as Merry about where to set the upper limit. My maintenance weight probably swings more widely than most others! I definitely can swing over a kilogram between the end of one fast day and the start of another.

Joffy, you’re probably right about the extra FD calories helping me maintain for the long term. So for at least while I’m not feeling 100% I’m going continue to allow myself the full 500 calories on FDs.

An inulin update: The inulin experiment is slow! After incrementally raising my dose weekly, I’ve just now reached the 30 gram dose recommended to address the visceral fat. So, it is now when the rubber hits the road so to speak. I continue taking the 30 grams for 3 months. I’m keeping measurements and will let you know whether or not the inulin does help reduce the centimeters around my belly that haven’t gone down as far as expected with 5:2 alone!

Cinque and I will be getting together this week in Melbourne! I’m looking forward to this! Not sure the weather will be suitable for summer dresses though! I’d love to wear my Rodney Clark ‘goal’ slacks, though I really need to be a whole kg + under my goal weight to fit into them. This is because I have that extra padding around my middle and which hopefully the inulin will help with! Either that or I’ll possible reconsider a new lower goal weight! I’m a work in progress!

The rubber hits the road! Great analogy Lael. I’ll be keen to find out what the result of this experiment reveals. If your rubber hits the road, I might try it.

Yes, my weight creeps up few hundred gms each day between FDs too and then usually drops back about 700gms-1kg after the FD. That keeps me motivated to fast and actually looking forward to fasting. I assume this slow creep upwards is because I’m eating over my TDEE on non-FDs. I sometimes question why I can’t just ‘get it right’ and eat ‘normally’ every day. Then again, there are hundreds of people on these pages all doing the same thing and I must also remind myself of the non-tangible benefits of fasting. This is the first time in my adult life, well the last 30 years anyway, that I have remained the same weight for this long +/- 2kgs. So, if it ain’t broke …..

Have a lovely time together you two!

Welcome marinermum! If you feel like it, come and join our Silly Season Challenge. https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/silly-season-challenge/

Back from my week in Melbourne. Will weigh in tomorrow but have crept up even though I did 16:8 most days. Driving and sitting are not conducive to weight loss.

Joffy I think I saw you as I drove through Holbrook this morning. There were two guys near a machine, one in yellow and the other orange. I mentally said hello.

    Hi everyone
Haven’t posted this past week or so as preoccupied with various issues.
Several of you have been so supportive and encouraging, so wanted to post a quick update.

Didn’t lose any weight for the first 2 weeks, but then started to see some movement. As of weigh in today (first FD of Wk 5), I’ve lost 2.5kg. The strange this is: after FD 8, I weighed myself and was amazed to see I’d lost 3.5kg. Really thought that I’d weigh the same or a little less today – not a 1kg increase. Is this uncommon?

Also, my measurements are exactly the same as when I started on 21 November. Where has the weight gone, I wonder? Seems very strange to me, but perhaps it isn’t.

Really keen to see lower numbers on the tape measure.

Interested to hear if any of you have had a similar experience.

Have been cutting down on carbs on the non-FDs this past week or so.
    Hope this helps.

    Good luck to you all.

Good morning all. Well as I said few extra kgs. Prior to trip 66.2, this morning 68.5. FD today so will see what tomorrow brings.

Chat we all expect so much from this WOL none more so than me. The thing we have to get our minds around is that this is a complete change of mindset and also a life changing experience for our bodies. The weight loss is a side benefit compared to the health benefits. After nearly two years on 5:2 I am finally allowing myself to fall off the wagon now and then without thinking it is the end of the world. My journey has been slow compared to others but I just continue each day.

Keep doing what you are doing and it will happen. There are so many on this forum who will help and advise given their personal experiences. There is no better advice than from someone who has actually been in your shoes.

Will check in tomorrow. Have a good day everyone. Lael I am sure you will enjoy meeting Cinque, she is a lovely lady.

    Good morning everyone,
Worked through a FD yesterday quite easily. The tuna salad lunches are making it a lot easier with no thinking of dinner at 4pm. I do wonder if it will affect anything only because it is on a FD even though it is only about 600kj or 130 cals and my whole day intake is still below 500 cals just not that low 350 cal number.
I will not wonder whether the beer I will have tonight, which is also around 600kj, will have an affect but it will not be a FD.
Actually I have found some claims of energy on packaging confusing. One brand John West claims 397kj per can 90g then Greenseas is claiming 300kj per can of drained tuna which apparently weighs 65g when drained. The numbers align with weight to energy calculations (4.6 kj per gram of tuna) I am going to have to weigh a drained can of tuna find out.
Intesha that was me in the yellow shirt and I have now finished that job off.
    Meals for the day:
    1 x white coffee 150kj, tuna salad 600kj, 500g minestrone soup 800kj, 100g kidney beans added to soup 400kj. Total 1950kj or 466 cals.

Chat, you’re losing at a rate higher than I did, more than half a kg per week overall, which is great progress. Keep in mind that measuring yourself is really subjective, it’s virtually impossible to get the same measurement twice, you might measure in a slightly different place, pull the tape slightly tighter, etc. I don’t think it’s strange that you gained 1kg between the end of FD4 and the beginning of FD5 – see my post above. I take my ‘weigh-in’ recording the morning after a FD.

A drive-by sighting of Joffy, what fun! I made two batches of Mexican Chicken Soup (8 serves) but our home-grown chilli proved too much for my OH and, as I need the freezer space, I’ve been working my way through it every FD. I think it’s very similar to your FD fare Joffy – contains kidney beans, black beans and lots of spices. I had a similar issue about the weight of a can of kidney beans drained vs. unopened can. Your intake would appear to be well below your TDEE (depending on how much weight you’ve since lost).

Are you staying home for Christmas Intesha? A pooch that we’re looking after leaves for Chile with Jetpets tomorrow night; we’re sure going to miss the little guy. But I’m looking forward to DD returning from Myanmar on Thursday at 5.20am. It will be so good to have her home safely.

My FD yesterday didn’t pan out but today’s has gone well will do another before Christmas putting my walking shoes out so i can sneak out without the dog still a pup wont walk very far then wants carried home.

Weigh in this morning after FD 67.3.

Yes Thin home this year. Xmas at my place, at this stage 7 adults and 2 children. Not sure what my brother is doing. Have made the decision not to bring Mum home as it is just too much stress. Will bring her home on Boxing Day when things are quieter.

Fishing Gran its all about perseverance and getting back on the horse. To some people it’s a breeze and others a struggle but we all get there in the end.

    Good morning everyone,
    Fast day for me.

Intesha, thanks for the compliment, and lovely lady describes you very well too! Slender too. Good luck with all the organisation for that big Christmas Day. And nice that you will be able to give your mum a gentler special day on Boxing Day.

Fab drive by 5:2 sighting of Joffy!

Joffy those labels seem to be designed to be confusing. Good luck sorting it out!

I’m looking forward to meeting Lael tomorrow, what a social time I am having!

Chat congratulations on that loss! Hooray for your scales finally showing how well you are doing! Are clothes getting any looser?

Thin, I hope the dog has a good trip to Chile! Wow. And that your daughter has a good flight home. It will be lovely to give her that welcome home hug!

Fishing Gran, good luck sneaking out for your walk! I hope your next fast day is a really good one!

Welcome Marinermum! Hooray for those lost centimetres! My favourite thing about 5:2 is that it is perfect for the long haul!

    Merry, Birthdays AND Christmas! Overload!

Hi Ona and Barata and everyone else!
    Best wishes for today!

    Good afternoon everyone,

    Welcome Marinermum๐Ÿ™‚ Well done!

Hi Cinque – good to hear you’re enjoying visits with other lovely SH’s. Enjoy.

    Thin- I’m good thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚
Check in : Birthday overload is definitely happening and Christmas food isn’t looking too attractive at the moment. I would be happy to just resume normal daily food already. After birthdays and being around lots of grain carbs, I need to go through the next week gluten free. Grain foods not only ‘catch’ me but they seem to whack on weight really quickly, so today I’m up to 64.1kgs. It needs to go down now! I also need to use the foods I know work for me even though I’m eating in someone else’s house, so an extra shopping trip today.

    Onwards and Downwards,
    Merry

    Hi Everyone

Intesha: Thanks for your comments. Yes, am sure the weight loss will happen. Already have the proof.

thin: Thanks for your comments and encouragement, also. Did think that measuring yourself is really subjective – and virtually impossible to get the same measurement twice. When I compared Monday’s measurements to those of 21 November, some were actually higher! About the 1kg weight gain from the end of last Thursday’s FD and the beginning of this Monday’s FD: Followed your lead and weighed again the morning after the FD. Back to last Thursday’s weight! So currently down 3.5kg from 21 November.

Cinque: Thanks for the congrats on the loss. No, clothes are no looser, but know they will be. Can’t wait!

    Best wishes to all

    Hi Everyone!

My partner and I spent the most wonderful morning with Cinque chatting and enjoying the creative fare served at George Columbaris’ cafe, ‘Mastic’ in Kew, Melbourne. Some of you may know George as the Masterchef judge. Anyway, meeting up with Cinque has been a highlight of my time here. Even though we’d never met in person before, I truly do feel like I was meeting an old friend! We appreciated hearing more about future plans for Yam Daisy which inspired me further to feel what a gift it will be for the community when it becomes a reality.

So far It has been easy eating well in Melbourne because I can easily find food that I know works for me, just about anywhere! So different than where we live.

Hey Chat, Well done for sticking with 5:2 and shedding the 3.5 kg!

Good morning all. Day after second FD 66.3 so 2kg down from Tuesday. My inactivity, a few vinos, Devonshire tea and meals out gone after two FDs. I love this WOL and the way you can get back on track after a splurge. No longer worried about celebrations and the next few days is going to be an eat fest and I am going to enjoy every minute. Life is too short to deny the pleasures and I am so grateful to have found this WOL and you wonderful supportive people on this forum.

I wish you all a wonderful Xmas and look forward to connecting with you all again in 2017 and achieving more success.

Lael I totally agree it is so nice to meet people from the forum and to be able to share our stories. Makes it seem more real.

    All the very best everyone๐Ÿ’๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

Hi everyone, a lot of posts on this page defining this Way Of Eating to a “T”. Being able to just start again is all you have to remember after having a big day or night and with Chatelaine nothing for a couple of weeks then bang instant success, hope it makes you feel great Chat.

I have lost 9.5kg since starting it did slow down and stop for me in the last couple of weeks but that was when my clothes size went down and fit better. I have lost the weight from all over my body but I notice it in my legs and backside with my dress shorts (wearing old ones that were too tight previously) fitting again. My stomach has gone down I know this by the amount of the measuring stick visible. I reckon our bodies may shrink the opposite way we grow, you know when the kids are going to grow when they get a little chubby then they turn into a stick again, well maybe we drop some weight then the body changes (shrinks) then drop more weight.
I was planning on reporting in when it was a 10kg loss which was about to happen last week but with the holidays close and no scales for 3 weeks I thought take what you can now. I might go pick up 2 house bricks or 19 tubs of butter to remember what it was like 2 months ago and I would take weight loss that any day.

Thankyou to you all for your support on this forum it has definitely made it easier and made me more accountable.
    Meals for the day:
    1 x white coffee 150kj, 500g minestrone soup 800kj, 100g kidney beans in the soup 400kj. Total 1350kj or 322cals.
