  • Day 4 🇺🇸Utah visiting — NFD

Had a great FD yesterday at 588 calories including the chicken soup for lunch.

@annemarilyn – the soup was tasty and low carb. Granddaughters who shared it with me kept asking for the noodles! I didn’t see any in Trader Joe’s with noodles….

Elder granddaughter had a recipe for cauliflower chowder we had for supper, also no carb. I enjoyed so of that as well.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday to all who follow American football.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 4 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

We did not win anything last night. Well, have to let others have a chance ha ha 😆
It was good fun, great to catch up with people, great to get the points for this years rally and already planning routes and nights away while we travel around Ireland this summer. It’s such a fun thing to do and I have honestly seen so much of my native land ever since we started doing this rally.

Having a lazy day. We were up and out of the hotel early this morning as DH had to work at 2pm. Wonderful sunrise over the lake as we were leaving. Now I am home and planning to light the fire later, make a lovely hot beef and chickpea chilli, and a cheeky glass of red wine might be sampled ☺️

Then it’s dry till Friday again. Three FD’s this week.

@debster251 it was @danceforher that was deleted. Reinstated now 👍

Spreadsheet updated, columns frozen so you can now scroll across and still see your name. I used to be good at the old spreadsheets but three years away from office work and now working as a horticulturist and I find it a tad difficult to remember 😃

    Have a good Sunday.

    Day 4 NFD Oregon USA

Superbowl Sunday! Fun and food of course. We are in charge of smoking pork for barbeque sliders. Making a homemade light coleslaw too.

Yesterday finally got out for a 3.25 mile walk. And decided with my friend to sign up for another half marathon in June. We did a walk/run interval (slow) before and it helps a lot with fatigue and better for joints. Still need to add weight training for my upper body but it’s a goal. And better than sitting which I have been doing a lot of.

@flourbaby–the tomato smaller than your thumb made me smile. Darn dragons!

@debster251 between jaunts in the forest and to the beach you are really making me want to see Northern Ireland.Lucky pip! Has he/she grown a lot? (and sorry about the wretched scale but loved your quote!)

@daffodil sorry you didn’t win but would still love to see any of your photos if you can share.

Hope everyone has a great day!
    GO EAGLES!!!!

    Day 4 UK NFD

Yesterday’s baking was mildly disastrous. Had to throw away my attempt at vegan cake made with coconut flour as itdidn’t bind and didn’t taste good! Bread was wonderful and I remade the cake as fat-free & diabetic friendly using eggs. The recipe is already adapted and I don’t know which way to go with it, but I’ll try another day with a different egg-replacement – and get some good advice first!

Unfortunately I spent a few too many hours baking and clearing up, with little to show for it. And ate rather a lot of bread while waiting to be finished, so a really unbalanced day food-wise altho still inside my TDEE. Today’s my weekly feast day and thus far half th day’s calories have been spent on bread/egg/carrots and the other half on vegetarian Percy Pigs 😀

Haven’t drunk enough either day – nor rested, practiced yoga & meditation or eaten mindfully. Looking forward to an early night and a mindful FD tomorrow. I must also give a bit of thought to what I eat on NFDs – not all calories are created equal and some certainly puff me up and make me sluggish.

It seems that planning ahead a bit enables us to make helpful choices rather than being so easily swayed by temptations. Any of us can slip in the right circumstances so it’s good to look ahead, forecast the icy patches and find the things that’ll hold us up when the going gets a bit harder.

    Day 3 – nfd
    Day 4 – Massachusetts – CD

Good day everyone! Checking in. Friday’s FD went well. Yesterday there was some splurging as we entertained some friends. Today I am hoping to cut back despite today being Superbowl Sunday. The Patriots (the Massachusetts football team) are going to the superbowl so I guess I should be more excited, but I am just not into football. Any Eagles fans that want to be my fake enemy for today? >:)

@ccco – thank you for your comments! I am going to keep tracking my eating and see where that gets me in two weeks. 🙂 Good to hear you are losing the weight! Keep it up!

Good feelings about this month. Time to shake things up – comfort is the enemy!

Day 4 NFD – Nebraska, USA

Happy Sunday everyone! Although it is sunny outside, it is very cold so I will doing activities inside…not sure what yet though. Hoping I’ve managed my NFD well over this weekend. Tomorrow is my FD and so I am preparing for it both mentally and outwardly to make sure I have the right things to eat to keep me at 500 calories.

    Have a great week everyone!

Madedemedal! I am right there with you about that dragon! I think when he’s done in London, he makes a point to come on over and drop in on New York City, too! LOL I am working on keeping him away from my front door!! Stay strong! 🙂

Good morning, BigViking! No, I guess those dogs won’t walk themselves but at least they are an excuse for some additional outdoor exercise! I only get that when I babysit my daughter’s dogs! I am on a NFD, too. I plan the weekends to be NFDs and fast on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I will only weight on Fridays, since I don’t want to be weighing for he damage done on NFDs. Monday is a good day to fast. Maybe we can fix any weekend damage done! Stay strong!

Debster251! I love your saying at the bottom of your post! I totally agree. Well, the weather in Belfast must be nice today! Here where I am, it is snowing and bitterly cold. The best thing I can stare at is a fire in my fireplace! Stay strong!

    Day 4 – Iceland – NFD

Had a good FD yesterday thankfully, but today will be tricky as I am having a small party tonight and there will be cake!

@onahealthyhigh – I too love Ottolenghi’s recipes, recently got two of his books and have been trying one recipe every week, his flatbread + crushed puy lentils with tahini and cumin are my favourites so far😋 Cannot wait to try his cauliflower cake, love cauliflower although I am not familiar with cauliflower cravings a la @rainbowsmile – I hope you are feeling better🌷

Have a great (Super Bowl) Sunday all!

    Day 4 – London – UK

Hello everyone! Almost finishing my 4th day at 16:8. Today, however, I started eating even one hour later, making my fasting time longer.

I trained as well today, lifting the same that I used to lift when I had my breakfast previously. Again, I had loads of energy and clarity and didn’t suffer at all. Fasting + lifting is working well for me.

The only thing is that I had so much stomach acid last night and today as well, I don’t know exactly why. Let’s see how this goes for the next couple of days.

PS.: Ottolenghi is amazing! Love, love, love!!

I will be back maybe in One week to report a bit more.

Have a nice week you all!

Hi, Igorek! I just read your post. I drink two cups of coffee every morning whether fast day or not, but I drink it black with Splenda in it. I have been using sugar substitutes since 1968 and, despite all the publicity I’ve seen out there in recent years, it has never caused me to gain weight. I was always thin! Good luck today! Stay strong!

Day 4- Colorado USA – NFD

Enjoying my NFD weekend. Tracking calories on “Lose It” app, staying near my TDEE. Down another half pound!!!

My favorite things about this WOL are:
    1) The flexibility. Depending upon my work or social plans, I can move my days around.

    2) Nothing is truly off limits. I can “have it tomorrow” but almost never end up eating the treat that called my name. Thankfully, treats are losing their grip on me.

    3) 5:2 has taught me that I will not starve to death. Hunger comes then goes in a wave, which can be fought off with water, plain tea or black coffee. I no longer feel compelled to carry snacks in my car, purse and work locker. I can go many hours or a few days without loading my belly.

    4) It works! When I follow the plan, I make progress either on the scale or in lost inches.

I’m so very grateful to have found intermittent fasting & this forum!
Hope February brings us all some success, however you define or measure it.

    Day 4 – Budapest, FD

Today’s FD went really well. I’ve had about 400 calories, and I think I will stop here, to offset some of the damage I did last night with the Pad Thai. Plus I’m not really hungry anymore. I found a new tea I love, and that really helped. I’m all about “dessert teas”, I love anything from chocolate chai to vanilla raspberry, which is what I’m drinking now. Soothes the soul.

Tomorrow is a NFD and yoga in the morning! I’ve been struggling with getting it done so I really hope this month I’ll stay motivated and get my yoga in.

@debster251 thanks for the response! I’m so new to all of this so I’m trying to figure out what works. I think I was just curious on how everyone else is using the sheet-are people finding that it’s more motivating to keep that initial number or change it as they lose weight? I guess I’ll try both and find out 🙂

    Have a great Sunday everyone!

    Day 4 – USA – NFD

Hi, Cogomeia: Just read your post. I was curious about your exercising. I exercise a lot myself, including yoga and a personal trainer, plus I row on my rowing mating (that feel so good for my back!). However, I have the same problem you mentioned, too much stomach acid. I tried exercising both without eating and after eating and I have the same effect. For now I take a PepcidAC before the problem starts and that seems to help but I don’t understand the cause. If you come up with anything, please let me know! Thanks! Stay strong! 🙂

Please can you add me to the list too.

I’m one month in and have lost 13lbs. I miss my chocolate desperately so if anyone has any replacement ideas please can you let me know.

    Good luck to everyone!

    Still Day 4- Colorado USA – NFD… 2nd post

@debster251 – the Mosley show re: HIIT sounds interesting. Can’t watch it though, I get a banner that reads something about needing UK internet service to access the show. Boo.
Was able to watch a few short clips of it on YouTube though… that looks like an exhausting 5 minutes! I’m going to give it a try & report back.
How many times a week did the program recommend doing that HIIT routine?

@coda – thanks for the reminder of tabata sprints. I’d forgotten what an effective workout those are! I used to do the running version (20 second sprint, 10 second walk x 8 = 4 minuets total.). You are so right… at first those 10 sec rests seem quite adequate. By the end, I’m gasping for breath as the 10 secs fly by too fast!

@songbirdme – hope you recover quickly!

@flourbaby – I’m afraid I cannot take credit for my husband joining our bandwagon.

OH & I have had multiple discussions over the past year about the health benefits of 5:2 and other forms of fasting. He would agree yes, yes, he & say he understood, but still meal times were a hassle in our house
….. UNTIL one of his favorite podcasts mentioned fasting!
It’s a group of 4 guys doing a radio talk show. Once THEY discussed 16:8 my husband was suddenly willing to give it the old college try! 🙄

I’m pretty sure he classed it in his mind as “some silly diet only ladies do to lose weight” or blah-blah-blah…. Once this group of men, that he’s followed on podcast for years, extolled the virtues, he finally “got it.” It became okay & cool for him to try it too.
Oh well, LOL, 😁 whatever it takes for the light bulb moment!

Today is a NFD today! I got a little away from myself and ate too much for breakfast, which means in order to stay within my TDEE, I will only being having a chicken drumstick and a little veggies for dinner, but that’s okay! The plan is working for me and that’s what counts. I like my arrangement of having my weekend be NFDs, carefully monitored. This way I am really looking forward to my Monday FD and yoga class. That way I have an opportunity to repair any weekend damage I may do. The weekend is the only time I have anything that is back to back. My other NFDs are Tuesdays and Fridays, which is excellent. As soon as Spring comes, my women’s golf group starts up on Tuesdays, when we plan and then followup with lunch. Yay, I will be able to eat with them! Good luck today and have fun with the Superbowl! 🙂

Hi ccco: thank you for your message!

I just drank loads of water with one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and will see what happens. During the first two days plus exercise, nothing happened to my stomach, but the acid started yesterday at night and then stayed there until today. But the feeling is not like just normal acid, it feels a bit like a virus or flu thing… Because I was on the edge to throw up yesterday at night. I took some medicine (which hopefully didn’t break my fast) and then could sleep.

Today, when I woke up, it felt like I still had food in my stomach. Sometimes this used to happen to me, as if my stomach refuses to digest something. Maybe I ate something not good for me 😛

I will let you know how I feel tomorrow and the day after, maybe it subsides!

Thank you and have a nice Sunday!

    Best,

Cogmeia! I hope it does go away. I don’t understand my problem but it isn’t always there but more than I care for. Once I was doing a power walk in my neighborhood and when the acid started I had to go to the side to throw up, too much acid. Another time during my club workout, I had to step outside for the same thing. It seems to mostly happen during exercise, so I think there is a connection, although I have always exercised but didn’t have this happen in the past. Hopefully, I will figure it out. My doctor says I am alright so maybe I am just overdoing something! 🙁

Day 3 (couldn’t log on here yesterday for some reason) NFD
and Day 4, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Nice quiet Sunday around here. Drinking hot green tea and reading a good Lisa Scottoline book (Daddy’s Girl) and relaxing as I did most of my catch up housework yesterday.

Ate a nice sized bowl of steel cut oats with raisins and a couple of pieces of cinnamon toast for breakfast – won’t eat again until dinner which will be a salad with some additional protein, not sure what yet.

Feeling great and hope the same for all. It is a cold, windy day around here but there has never been a Winter not followed by a Spring –

    so it’s all good !

I see some are a bit under the weather, hope everybody gets better realllll soon.

    Day 4 – 🇬🇧- NFD

@daffodil2010 – thanks for hosting & adding me to Feb’s Challenge. Definitely in need of FD tomorrow- indulgent weekends are always my downfall, six nations doesn’t help!!!

Jan has certainly rekindled my love of exercise just need to support it through fasting more consistently.

Good luck everyone- impressed with 8 days worth of posts already!

You know how it is when something calls you from the food cupboard or the fridge?
Well, I meant to finish eating three hours ago, but now something has called me… my dear husband bought me a lovely soft wholemeal roll from Waitrose this morning, so I feel I must eat it (with a boiled egg)right?
    FD tomorrow fingers crossed.

Good luck tomorrow, Ciren2! It’s my FD too and I am looking forward to it. While I think my weekend NFDs have been pretty good, it’s always good to think any damage can be remedied on Monday!j 🙂 Stay strong! I love to exercise, too! My husband and I both agree that exercise seems to support our dieting efforts emotionally. We are better at dieting if we also exercise. I don”t know, but maybe it makes us feel like exercise is something with a more immediate result that we can control!

    Day 4 North Wales NFD

    Day 4 California FD

Sundays aren’t normally FD for me, but I hit my trigger weight of 60 kg this morning and that means it’s a FD no matter what day it is. (Self imposed rule.) The gain is due to a tub of caramels that I bought a couple days ago, thinking I could control myself around them. Silly me, not only did I eat most of them, but they set off a full fledged carb reaction that had me eating everything in sight. So time to get back to normal and a FD is the best way to do that. I’ll probably do my normal FD tomorrow and then we’ll see where I am on Thursday. This could be a (rare) 3 FD day week for me. But my skinny jeans are a greater incentive than all those crazy carbs! 🤪

Day 4, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD

    Day 4 – Fife, Scotland – NFD

14+ miles on the mountain bike this morning, chilled out mid day, followed by “Afternoon Tea” followed by a few drams with my in-laws.
All in all a very sociable Sunday.

Fast day tomorrow, and I might even try 16:8 on Tuesday. I had never heard of 16:8 until I came back to this forum but after a bit of research I might try mixing it up with 5:2 to see if I can handle it.

Day 4 – SW WA USA – NFD

Definitely enjoying the recharge of the weekend.

@igorek – you asked about perhaps cutting back on milk in your coffee on FDs. Different strokes for different folks on this forum. For me, I enjoy a dribble of real cream in my decaf coffee on FDs and NFDs. I go for the low carb of cream than the higher carbs of milk.

@metatauta – if you say you’re in the same place as @rainbowsmile was about a year ago, does that mean a divorce? We’re here for you whatever it is. I’ve been wondering if you were okay as I’ve seen more days where you signed in but w/o many comments. (((hugs))) and prayers for encouragement!

Time for a little nap; part of weekend recharge!

Remember, no matter what you’re going through, don’t go it alone! Together we are stronger!

Week 1 NFD… So far this is the best “diet” I have ever tried. Only 1 week in and I have lost 5 lbs (I know some is water weight but still feels amazing). I see how it could be forever my WOL. I can’t believe how it cut my cravings immediately. I read as many reviews and blogs as I could to help prepare myself for how I might feel, but I hard time believing all the amazing reviews. I see now why they love it. How many of you are doing 4/3 to start??

    Day 4 – USA – NFD

Second post – @AnnMarilyn, no, not a divorce, but a separation. Putting one foot in front of the other these days. Haven’t had a FD for a week.

    2nd post

@metatauta–thinking of you my USA friend. You have been such a helpful voice for me in the last few months.
Virtual hug and remember to be patient with yourself. Hoping it all works out in the healthiest way for you.

Australia – Western Australia and it’s day 5 FD.
I started (again after being totally drunk and eating way to much over the festive season) last week and managed to gain half a kilo this week. I saw it coming though as I yep, got drunk and ate way too much over the weekend! I was done 1.5 kg on Friday from Monday amd put 2 kg on over the weekend! Hopefully it comes off today and tomorrow.

I wanted to join a forum as I need to lose 12 kg and struggle with booze and weed and getting munchies! I’m hoping to find some inspiration here because my husband and friends are not much help. We all love a good time🤪
I live exercing and hit the gym at least times a week and walk/run at least once a week.

I’m ready to give up booze for a month.
Has anyone followed this diet, still drunk alcohol and lost weight?

Metatauta, I wish you well. I have been there once myself, so I understand and you will be in my prayers!

ccco USA: I am just finishing my NFD and entering my FD. I ate really healthy today but wound up eating more calories than planned. I tried to make some new additions to my Mediterranean style dinner but since it was the first time I tried this, I ended up going overboard. It was tasty but next time I will control the calories better. Tomorrow is another day! I will make up the difference in my FD! Good night everyone! 🙂

    Day 5 – Japan – FD #5

Once again I find myself overwhelmed with work. However fasting is easy.

    Day 5 NSW Australia NFD
    Hi everyone, just checking in
    Bye for now!

    Still day 4 –

@metatauta – I’ve been through separation & then divorce. I initiated the separation because things were quite unhealthy but my goal was for us to get help & come back in a healthier fashion… but both needed to be willing to do the work. It is a tough road. Do take care of yourself. Will be praying!

    Day 5, Norway, FD

My normal Monday-FD. Not touching the scales until Friday morning!
An OK weekend, could have been better kcal-wise, but could definitely been worse…

    Norway, Day 5, FD

    Good Monday morning!

Hoping for a good FD today, this week will be FD Mon and Wed, as I have a course on Thurs-Fri, with lunch. I know myself well enough that I cannot stand aginst those yummy lunches, and I will need the extra brain food on those days, I think it will be a heavy and intense course.

I just have to tell you: I am going on a business trip to Brazil in April! I am SO excited! I have always wanted to go to Brazil, and finally I will. We will be flying every day and sleeping in a new hotel every night for 7 days, but, anyway. Have to work at work right? Hopefully I will see some cool stuff from the taxi?

    Day 5 Cornwall UK FD

Hello @hesterjane. Yes I drink a bit of red wine and still lost weight over the last six months on 5:2. BUT – its only 1 small glass on non fast days so hardly a party!

There are quite a few fasters on here trying to kick the habit for a month or ‘dry til Fri’ so you could join them for a bit to try it out. I’m thinking of reducing more so I’ve been reading the chatter on this forum about alcohol – warming myself to try something. Trouble is the social impact as i enjoy a bit of wine with my OH. Maybe ‘dry til Fri’ would work?

Alcohol calories hold me back (most of the time!) – as a blowout at the weekend just sabotages all the hard work during the week!

    Day 5 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

Morning all. Time to gear up for another week and another FD.

@jb4me I always do 4:3, with normally a back to back (B2B) Mon and Tues, and the final FD Thursday. I weigh everyday to keep myself accountable and am now very familiar with how things can make the scales fluctuate. Friday (or Saturday if I was good on Friday) is normally official weigh in. And then comes the weekend and I know I will put up at least 3 pounds from boozing and treats. It usually dispatches quickly though once I start fasting. Easy come, easy go 😉

@hesterjane I do enjoy wine and beer at the weekends, but the calories in booze are no friend to weight loss. I rarely drink during the week now so would be in the “Dry till Friday” group. I know that I will be up in weight after a good booze weekend, and sometimes I have found that I am losing the same few pounds over and over again.
So in short, I have found it impossible to lose significant weight and still drink alcohol. Keep it for an occasional treat and there is some hope of loss 😄

I keep this in mind for alcohol- “Once a pleasure becomes a habit, it ceases to be a pleasure”. It works for me anyhow 👍

@mari84 how exciting!! Trip to Brazil. Wonderful

Today is a good day to have a good day

    Day 5, London, UK, NFD

Yesterdays’ CD went well although, there was the remaining alcohol to get rid of in preparation for Dry ‘til Fri, there’s no point being tempted by an open bottle of wine until Friday!!!!

Happy Birthday @missybear, have a fabulous day and step away from the cake (after you’ve had a slice or two of course!!!)

@mari84, even though you’ll be working, you know we’ll be expecting a daily update similar to ‘our’ trip to Peru with Daffodil2010!!!! I’ve always wanted to go to Brazil, but a country of bikini clad, beautiful women (stereotype alert!!!) does NOTHING for my self-esteem!!!!

I had a quick look at the spreadsheet, and noticed we have our 1st Hungarian member @ioanamaus welcome!!!! I love the international flavour of this group, members from Norway, Finland, Germany, Denmark, Sth Africa, Japan, UAE (don’t let me down @taraga), The USA, Australia, England, New Zealand, Canada, Iceland, France, Scotland, India, Ireland, Wales, Malta, Belgium & N. Ireland. I’m sure I’ve probably missed somewhere, and some members don’t post where they’re from so we could be achieving even more world domination!!!!!!!

    Keep the faith people!!!!

    Day 5, Finland, FD

Good morning! An unexpected loss this week. Have been full of the flu and literally on the sofa all week. I guess it has helped not being able to taste anything, but i went a little crazy yesterday when my taste returned. Am feeling alot better today, and it is a beautiful winter day. Cold and sunny! I will try and venture out for a gentle walk around the lake, around 3km, and maybe a quick dip.
The worst part of FD is trying to figure out what to feed the family. I like to eat something with them, so finding something to fit is sometimes a bit tricky. Suggestions?

A general happy birthday to fellow Aquarians! Feb is a great month!
    Have a great day everyone.

@flourbaby thank you so much! Quick confession though, I’m not really Hungarian, just living here for now. But I’ll take it, we can add Hungary to the amazing international list 🙂 I’m originally from Romania, so there we go, we’ve expanded it even more 🙂

    Day 5, UK, FD
Ok, that was not a controlled w/e at all. My poor body really needs this FD (and probably another one!)

Day 5 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and most definitely NOT FD there will be 🎂🍸🍹🍷after a walk on the beach, I’ve even got sun 🌞.

Day 4-NFD, emphasis on non, oopsie!
    Day 5- FD.
