  • Was just about to reach for some chocolate, but thought I would catch up on todays post first….thank you @bert1802 for your inspiring statement and determination for Lent. Having a green tea instead!!

Day 11 Las Vegas NV NFD

Well I guess a Bison burger and overeating potato salad must be diet food because Last night I hit a new all time low for BF% @ 15.4%. Weight is holding constant at 160 lbs. It seems the hard work at the gym is paying off for muscle growth and continued fat loss!

Went out to dinner last night and ate too much. Whenever I have two glasses of wine it seems to open the flood gates. It was fine dining and I even had desert and felt nasty afterwards. It was my only meal of the day so I don’t think I did too much damage. No cravings this morning. I feel like fasting today but it’s a weight work out day so I’ll be eating a good amount of food.

CCCO easing into water fasting is smart. I’m glad you are not having too much trouble with it. Headache is typical as your body is not producing enough energy for your brain. As you do it more the body adapts and produces ketones faster so no headaches. I regularly do 40 hours with absolutely no issues now and even 64 hours was OK.

Day 11, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD

    Day 11 UK NFD

Too much sugar & black coffee yesterday, didn’t sleep very deeply & woke early. UP & out within 30 mins – not the most helpful decision, but done now. Tired, definitely not enough capacity to cope with things going wrong, got pretty grumpy. I had not one but two packets of sugary sweets on the way home. That’s around 1200 calories blown on nothing! Oh well. Now 36 hours at home to get myself rested & gronded again.

    Day 11 NFD Oregon USA

    Just lost a long post… ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

Welcome back @strawberriesandcream!! So glad to hear your positive attitude from what sounds like an….um…embattled trip?

@flourbaby–I actually thought of you while I was eating the “free” food as I remembered some clever thing you said about “free” and also “sale” foods when I was just starting back in November. Seems these items want to hurry into my mouth as if I would be “missing a great deal” even though I am not even hungry for them.๐Ÿ˜Š

And let me tell you (and @debster251) how very grateful I am that wine gums are not mainstream here in the states.
I don’t know what they are but Lord knows that some sort of wine flavored taffy item makes my mouth start watering from here. Please keep them away. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ˜‚

@bert1802 I am so glad that @at found you. Seems appropriate that she could pull you one of our strongest longtimers!
The show–600 LB life–really hard for me to watch. “There but the grace of God go I”. Your thoughts from it are so right. And really… We can do this. We have such small hurdles compared to others who are facing true life and death crisis with food choices.

I can’t remember what I posted about my walk/run yesterday but completed four miles and for week one completed 13 miles and dropped 45 seconds off my average pace by weekend. Mostly happy to have a goal and how it is helping me to stick to an activity plan. Going to get a massage stick today as I need to help my hamstrings and calves along!

Yesterday did 16:8 but made terrible food choices in the evening combined with four IPA’s… Stretched over six hours but calories I didn’t need!

Today is a new day! Together we are stronger and I appreciate all of you and your support.

ST: Thanks so much for your support! I didn’t think I could do a 48 hour fast either but I was getting desperate and I had seen on this forum that some people reset their diets with an extended fast, hence for me 48 hours! I was having trouble getting through 24 hours until now! Amazingly, I weighed myself this morning and I seem to be off the roller coaster and am down 6 lbs. It might be slow for 7 weeks of dieting but I kept losing and regaining over and over again and just couldn’t lose! This is very encouraging for me! Stay strong! Have a great day! ๐Ÿ™‚
P.S. Just got my copy of Dr. Mosley’s book The Fast Diet, so I know what I will be doing today! ๐Ÿ™‚

ccco USA FD Day 11: Roo64! I love your quote! I copied it and put it on my refrigerator! Wish my rain would go away too! It’s been raining for two days but it has gotten so warm, up to 65F today, but we can’t enjoy it! Have a great day and stay strong! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Day 11 – Ireland – NFD

Late check in for me, loads to do today, and now when its time to relax its snowing!!!!! So guess I won’t be going outside then.

It has not been a good weekend with snacks and beer (I totally blame the rugby), and I am going to finish off today with red wine by a roaring fire. Tomorrow will be another reset, and I look forward to it. But right now, I am going to light that fire.

    Take care all

ccco USA FD Day 11: It was nice that you ran into AT at the airport! Good luck with your Lent resolution to go on a bar diet! I gave up my wine and that wasn’t easy! I am right there behind you for all those resolutions! You can do it! Stay strong and have a great day!

    Day 11 UK NFD

    All OK on NFDs.

Aiming to eat 1 more meal, then liquid fast to pancakes on Tuesday evening (Shrove Tuesday). I have the Buckweat flour ready for Gallettes, a family favourte – with sausage, ham and egg. Good French peasant fayre, but not a 5:2 food ๐Ÿ˜ฎ So the 40+ hour fast will need to be a good one.

Hi, Markie! Just read your post and am rooting for you! I am a fan of yours now because of your dedication to yoga! I think of you now when I go to my yoga class! I understand that Californians feel that everything can be resolved with yoga and a beach! LOL Anyway, I finally had a good week and my first 48 hour fast was very successful, so I bought myself new yoga clothes! Now, I can’t wait to wear them! Just because I am getting old doesn’t mean I can’t be fashionable! Have a great day! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi, Diverdog! Just read your post! Thanks for your support! Although I have been on this diet, I have never been on an extended b2b fast before and wasn’t sure how that would work out! I was enough trouble getting through 24 hour fasts! When I first started, I got headaches and wasn’t happy about that but then they stopped. However, I thought I would get one with a 48 hour fast but to my amazement I did not. It was so success that I can now say I have lost 6 lbs That’s not much for a diet I’ve been on since early January but it is the first time I can finally see a successful road ahead! While I am not sure I could do a 60 hour fast, I think I finally found a pattern that works for me! That’s exciting to me! Good luck and have a wonderful day!

Daffodil2010: I didn’t know that Ireland could get so much snow! My niece and nephew were visiting relatives in Cork one time when it began to snow! i got the impression that snow is not common there but maybe it is because Cork is farther south than you are! Anyway, my niece and nephew were frustrated because the snow situation wasn’t being handled well and subway was closed down. They were hoping to use public transportation for their trip! LOL Enjoy your day!

JohnnyR, you’re making my mouth water! Have a successful day! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Day 11 – UK – NFD

Had a good CD yesterday. Away from home today visiting family and friends… In amongst watching rugby so like @daffodil2010 I’m blaming that on the alcohol intake!

So enjoying catching with everyone’s posts. I feel so much more accountable when I tune into the forum. So thank you everyone… Thought of you when I refused the sweets and biscuits which have been offered!

ccco USA FD Day 11 Hi, all! Just checking in! I am coming up on the end of a very successful 48 hour water fast! I am very pleased with the outcome because I finally think I know how to get off the roller coaster I was on! I am down 6 lbs. since I started in January. It may not seem like much be I had been on a roller coaster of losing and gaining. Now, I think I know how to handle my body to lose weight, so I am excited! I rewarded myself with new yoga clothes! Better than rewarding myself with calories! I just got the latest edition from Amazon of Dr. Mosley’s book The Fast Diet, so I know what I will be doing today! Apparently, he’s made some changes in this book and also added a section on resolving one of my health issues. My diet isn’t just about losing weight! I can’t wait to see if my cholesterol and blood pressure go down, among a few others! Have a great day everyone! Stay strong!
P.S. I saw a British show on the American PBS channel last night. It is about drinking alcohol and its effects on the body, including eating. If you can it is worth seeing!

Day 11, Gozo, Malta ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡น, nfd

I ate a three course meal for lunch and had two glasses of wine, one sparkling white asti and the other red fragolino.

I have gone a bit over tdee and I mean to eat about a 100 calories more this evening. Either a banana or packet of rice crisps at 125 calories.

Tomorrow is a fast day for me. Have a great evening everyone.

    Day 11, UK, NFD

So far so good, but I intend to have a glass of wine ๐Ÿท , which should still be fine because I eat moderately today.

@ccco glad you were successful in your 48 hours fast and you feel you are on the right track ๐Ÿ˜Š , and you said earlier ” I firmly believe exercise is easier when you look good!” , that put a smile on my face hehe ๐Ÿ˜€

Tomorrow is a FD for me. Scales are not budging ๐Ÿข

    Have a good day/evening everyone ๐Ÿค—

ccco USA FD Day 11: Does anyone have a brand of scale that measures fat, too, that they like? I am interested in purchasing a new one. I bought one back in the 1990s but it really didn’t work! Thanks!

ShinyThing, thanks for your comment! Have a great fasting day tomorrow! Good luck!

Day 11 – Fife, Scotland, NFD

After a trip to IKEA yesterday morning and a party in the evening it was a bit of day for eating badly at unusual times. Today I had porridge followed by a slice of toast with honey for breakfast. This fuelled a 15 mile mountain bike ride where we climbed over 1000ft and were just short of the snowline. Sounds dramatic but in truth we only had a sprinkling of snow on the top of the Lomond Hills, our local high ground.
Chicken, cabbage and tatties for tea tonight and then hopefully I can avoid the temptation to snack later I’ll be set up for tomorrows fast day.

Have a great Sunday evening folks!!

    Day 10 – USA – NFD
    Day 11 – USA – NFD

    Day 11 Stevensville, Maryland

CNFD doing 16:8 on NFDs seems to be working. I went to church this morning a little shaky from all the coffee. Made it until noon then did small coffee hour afterwards, no coffee just water and a little bit of salad. Feeling good about the day so far. Tomorrow is my FD so I am preparing my two 250 calorie meals for tomorrow, this week my goal is to stay off the scale until Friday, lose 1 lb. and plan out my meals ahead of time.

In a world where you can be anything, be kind. Have a great Sunday everyone.

Good luck, Diana123. Today is a water fast day for me and I just noticed that I am trembling from all that coffee I drank! That hasn’t happened to me in years! I only had 4 cups! ๐Ÿ™

Day 11, Oceanside CA USA, NFD

I am in maintenance for the fifth month since October 2017. It is amazing how the rhythm of the fast days twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays keeps me satisfied with small portions and lots of energy all days of the week. Four years ago when I first started walking my pace was a 23 minute mile. 50 pounds gone I can do 18 and 19 minute miles most days.

It helps to spend winter in a warm sunny climate. Pennsylvania has been my home for the past 40 years and getting away for January, February and March offers maximum opportunity for healthy exercise and keeping the Fast 5:2 WOL strong.

DH and I enjoy beef steak once a week, fish 3 times a week and dinner salads on FD’s. It is not complicated.

Day 10 and 11,USA Missouri Ozarks, Nfds

Checking in – all is going well. Cold and icy here but not all the snow Song Bird Me and some of the others are getting. Stay safe all.

Keeping up with the water and tea and planks – probably eating more than I should but tomorrow starts the fasts again !

    Day 11 – Massachusetts – nfd

This weekend has seen too much eating. I’m doing my best but it’s been a challenge.

Time to start over next week.

Ccco try drinking decaf coffee. It might not effect you that way.

Steffieagle, Reading your post was very motivating! Stay strong and healthy! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Day12/CD 16:8/Melbourne Australia

The following website helped enormously when I first started 5:2. It really helped with fast days.
    https://thepaddingtonfoodie.com/the-5-2-challenge/

    Have a great day everyone

LindaSue: Hi! Was just reading your post! One of my most favorite exercises is the plank! What a powerful exercise! Good luck!

Anna6: You’re right but I wanted then appetite suppressant benefits of the caffeine. I guess I really don’t need 4 cups, though! LOL I will stick with my standard 2! Stay strong!

Onahealthyhigh! Thanks for sharing that link! That food looks delicious and well worth trying! Stay strong! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Day 11 2nd post

@ccco You have some lovely things to say but I’m finding it increasingly hard to find & follow other people’s progress with each of your replies posted separately.

The monthly challenge threads are mainly about checking in to keep ourselves accountable, and keeping up with each other. Most of us check in once a day and reply to each others’ posts in the one post. The particular format makes it easy to keep track of where people are and how they’re getting on.

is there any chance you could combine your encouraging & thoughtful comments into fewer posts? Thank you.

    Day 11 California NFD Maintenance

Having a nice weekend and eating reasonably. Trying to do some organizing around the house and getting the โ€œfatโ€ clothes out of my closets and drawers. Havenโ€™t made the decision to donate them yet, but will stow then away and maybe do that next year. So far, maintaining has been pretty easy.

    Day 12 NZ

    FD

Good morning so far, went to the gym and had a 50cal protein shake hitting the study and doing some sewing this avo so hopefully will take my mind off the low calories.

Made some chicken broth, looks good! I have decided to do a three day FD as heard the benefits are so much better, so we will so, what an experiment this is, me being the guinea pig!

    Day 11,Germany, NFD
Checking in after a week now. Had a successful 5:2 week and finally read Dr mosley’s book. I had read the one from Kate Harrison a year ago and really liked that one too. The reading of the “original” again motivated me a lot!
My weigh in on Saturday showed only a loss of half a kilo, which is not much, considering the sudden weight gain of 1,6 kg the week before. Yet I am generally happy with how it is going!
Another thing I would like to share with you is that tonight – after living the 5:2 WOL for a year now – I finally told my husband about it! Yes, I know, it’s hard to imagine he did not notice himself but doesn’t this prove how smoothly one can fit this diet in your everyday life (lol)? We had an interesting conversation about it, he reacted kind of “neutral” I would say. Well, I just feel a bit releaved now that I don’t have to “sneak around and tell excuses” any longer…
Wishing you all a good day!

Michelinme: You have a point! I started doing that because I couldn’t keep what everyone wrote in my memory, so I could write one post for everyone!

    Day 11 USA (Illinois) NFD

Had a terrific dinner out last night. When was the last time I had prime rib dinner? And TWO glasses of lovely red blend wine? I think it has been 5 years. Stayed away from dessert at least!

Getting back to the routine of life as a retired but very busy lady.

    Onward and downward.

    Second post.

@ccco I don’t know if you are using a computer or maybe phone/tablet, I’m using a laptop, and I keep track of what I want to reply to various posts on a Notepad. Open a notepad and start replying on it to everything you want to reply adding things as you go along, and then just copy and paste here in the forum. I think that’s how most people do it, who can remember so many posts otherwise ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 11 Stevensville, Maryland today was a great day @onahealthyhigh thank you for the link it is just was I was looking for I need to plan out some good healthy recipes for fast day and these look great

I a world where you can be anything, be kind

    Day 12 – Japan – LFD 84.8kg

@merryapple – Interesting I didn’t know there might be a negative connection between water intake and metabolism. It is another angle to look into.

Today I’m doing a normal liquid fast day but I did do a workout this morning. Some pushups, stairs and a 6k run. I haven’t been running much so was happy to find that the run wasn’t difficult. So in the 400 to 500 calorie range. Tomorrow I’m going to try to do an HIIT workout.

While my weight is up and my middle is a bit bloated I think it is mostly from constipation. That has been a theme my whole life. When I was a kid I thought it was normal to only have to go #2 once or twice a week. I’ve had some movement, but it isn’t enough. That was the main reason I decided to run today as it normally shakes things loose. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sorry for being too graphic. While it is an on-going theme with me, it always resolves itself.

Day 11 – SW WA USA – NFD

Glad to be on this journey with all of you – such a diverse, wonderful group of individuals!

@ccco – it is somewhat difficult to keep up. I know I often have a piece of scrap paper beside me to jot down things to remember.

@strawberriesandcream – sounds like you had quite the adventure. You came through well on the other side weight-wise. Good for you!

@metatauta – you’re in my prayers! Glad you’re checking in.

@diana123 – as you mentioned being shaky at church from too much black coffee, I thought of a couple of things. I usually do decaf to lessen caffeine in my life, oh and at church we have a selection of teas & I often enjoy a cup of herbal tea while there. Another thing I meant to comment on was, I believe something you mentioned about your son getting married on the beach and now living in Battle Ground. I’m living in Battle Ground at this time and one of the things I appreciate is that it’s only about 2 hours from the ocean. Sometimes I just need to remind myself how close it is and go enjoy it. I did that with a friend on a weekend in January & we were surprised with an unseasonably warm get away we thoroughly enjoyed.

Enjoy the beginning of another week remembering that together we are stronger!

    2nd post Oregon USA

Wow… I am just not the same person Fri-Sun that I am Mon-Friday! Hopefully that is why this WOL will work for me in the long run.

Your words @bigviking are going through my head. Something about reviewing last year’s posts and it seeming like you veered from one pizza to wine disaster the next.

I seem to be in the “pay penance all week for the weekends camp”.

    Thank goodness tomorrow is Monday!

    Day 12 NSW Australia NFD
    Just checking in.
Hope you all have a wonderful week. Bye for now!

    Day 12 – Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช – FD

Very cold, frosty and icy morning. Think I better charge up my heated insoles for work ๐Ÿ˜†

@mjrbcd44 Yup, I had a weekend like yours. I review what I ate and such a lot of cr@p it’s not funny. My tum feels a bit yuck thus morning. So today’s FD is needed, but it’s the same pounds I am putting on and losing every week. Well, I am still a pound and a half down from last Monday so some loss there ๐Ÿ‘

@ccco Yes, snow is not a usual occurrence in Ireland. When we get it, it’s not much, does not last too long, but goodness me, everything shuts down. We don’t have the facilities nor the mindset to cope with snow ๐Ÿ˜†. I guess that’s what happened to your niece and nephew with public transport in Cork. Right now it’s just snow flurries but wishing it would go away as, at least here in Ireland, from 1st February, it’s Springtime!!! And LOL, there are no subways in Ireland ๐Ÿค—

By the way @ccco I wrote the above reply to you last night on the notes function of my iPad and copied it this morning! Otherwise I would have forgotten to comment. It really is hard to keep up. You comments and reactions are always appreciated โ˜บ๏ธ

Right, off to start this week. Valentine’s Day on Wednesday so I expect to be overwhelmed with orders for edible flowers, hope the little guys (the flowers) grew well over the weekend.

Today is a good day to have a good day ๐Ÿ‘

    Day 12 – UK – NFD

A FD had been planned but plans change! This is one reason why this is working so well for me…. Previously I would have beat myself up for ‘falling off the wagon’… it invariably affected the efforts for the whole week…. Now I simply swap my FD to tomorrow.

@mjrdcd44…. I’m watching your running progress with interest (as a non-sprinter myself!!). Keep up the good work! I too did a couple of half marathons a few years ago but found the long training runs on my own too boring.

Following in @steffieagle footsteps I’m looking forward to the reduction in weight coinciding with an increase in running pace.

    Have a good day everyone!

You don’t get what you wish for…. You get what you work for

    2nd post –

Friday I went dry for 1/2 the fast and I really didn’t notice any real impact. Today I did a good workout the first morning of the fast. Hunger is mild but I can fell a very strong shift now about 8 hours after the workout. My guess is my body has exhausted my glycogen reserves. At least in my case I often feel my blood glucose getting low (typically light headed) and then it recovers to a good level. I’m at that point now and I’m up to 88 mg/dL. Right now I’m about 22 hours into the fast. (No calorie fast)

    Day 12, Norway, FD

This weekend wasnt so bad food/kcal wise. I’ve been working at the elderly home, so that naturally keeps me away from eating and snacking over the weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

If I hadnt eaten breakfast, yesterday would have been a perfect FD. But i guess i ended up around 800kcals, so a new full FD today.

Woke up with a huge head ache, feels like i had 4 bottles of redwine last night, which i didnt…already taken 2grams of paracetamol..not working wonders yet.
