  • ccco USA FD Day 8: I am amazed how antsy I get toward the end of my fast. I don’t know why but I haven’t found any calming ideas! This makes me want to eat even more, although my hunger isn’t on that level at the moment!! If anyone has any advice, I would be open to it. If it wasn’t so cold here, a walk would help!

Thanks for the support CCCO 🙂

Is there a private Facebook page anyone follows? Nothing against this page, but would be easier and faster…

Day 8 Las Vegas NV WFD

Water fast going as usual, I’m not hungry but the idea of eating is very appealing! LOL Off day from intense exercise so just stretching, 30 easy minutes on the bike and a couple of easy sets of pull ups. I want to beat my high school best of 8 strict reps so I train them every day. I can do 6 now.

Going ballroom dancing tonight for a couple of hours.

    Day 9 – Japan – FD (#10 in 2018) 85kg

Surprised that me weight spiked up again, but it always goes down on fast days. Right now I’m doing a dry fast but I’ll switch over to water before too long. One can only go a few days without water and probably less than a day in comfort.

I’ve heard some claims that the thirsty body will break down fat to get to the hydrogen and make it’s own water form the oxygen breathed in. That is probably nonsense as combining hydrogen and oxygen is an exothermic process. (Heat is released) Basically combustion inside the body isn’t a good thing. However there is a lot of glycogen that gets stored when we are eating and that is typically 75% water. The breaking down of glycogen releases a lot of water which is partly why we can lose so much temporary weight while fasting. Once the glycogen is gone, the body has to break down fats for energy. At that point a lot of water is required as part of the metabolism process. This is far more than can be taken from the air or absorbed through the skin. So going dry too long isn’t safe or even healthy.

I’m thinking 12 hours is a reasonable limit as that is basically what millions do everyday in Ramadan. Thirst isn’t something to push too far. I’m just curious to see if mild short-term dehydration has any positive effects.

Right now my blood glucose is running at 101 mg/dL which is slightly high, so maybe there is more glycogen being broken down. Maybe it is just random nonsense I have in my head! 🙂

Day 7, FD, Day 8, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Spent the day out with friends, ate chili at Wendy’s with a Jr. Frostee – talked a lot, got some fuzzy socks to sleep in (been coating my feet with Burt Beet’s salve at night in preparation for sandals season). They are black and white striped with a red toe….

Happened to be standing next to a gentleman who was eating in with his wife and his total was 24 dollars even! I got the 4 for 4 dollar meal, substituted the fries with my chili, drank the small soda, took my hubby the double stack and the four nuggets. My total was 4.23, haha.. My Frostee is always free as I buy twenty of the keychain thingies at Christmas time to share with my friends and help support the Dave Thomas foster care to adoption charities. I am a very cheap date…… well, when I am paying, that is.

Hope I can catch up on some posts this weekend. I try to stay off of social media anymore for the most part and just check on things every couple/few days.

Hope everybody is doing well (and I would have given the danish to the birds). Welcome to all the new posters, this is such a supportive forum and you will be encouraged every step of the way to be the best “you” that you can be.

Uh, just read my post again. My fuzzy socks are black and white striped with a red toe – not my feet. !!!!!

dycask, I think water restriction is a very bad idea. As cells become a little bit dehydrated they lose some of the curvature required to properly present the receptors that accept all of the signalling proteins in the body. I can’t see any possible benefits to it.

ccco USA Day 8 End of FD: I made it through, although I am now tired and full! Fortunately, there is no way I can continue eating, and hence overeating, today. I feel like I have eaten enough for a month! That’s new (and a good thing). Tomorrow will be a controlled 16:8! I hope that will continue to help me. Saturday will be another FD. I hope to see some action on that scale this weekend when I finally check my weight. I exercised today and will do so again tomorrow. I am all in! Stay strong and good night! 🙂

    Day 8, UK, NFD

No time for aything, not for reading not for posting, and this hectic days are getting me down. I still managed a decent FD today though.

Hoping the next few days and next week are calmer so I can focus better.

    <3

Day 9 NFD New Zealand – Things seem to be going slowly. 2.8 kilos since 1.1.2018. I know thats average and I am reasonably happy so far. Its just that I have more than 120 dresses (yes 120) hanging in my cupboard. And I can only fit half of them. I just want to loose 6 kilos so that I can have another try on session 🙂 Seen as they say 5-6 kilos to go down a dress size 🙂

    2nd post –

@driverdog – Don’t worry, I know just how bad dehydration is, I’ve actually had heat stroke once. I’m not pushing it past the normal 12 hours or so that Muslins do for a month once a year. Very low risk in that. However going for a full day would be putting a lot of stress on the body. I’m just curious to see if there is any noticeable differences.

Curently I’m not dehydrated … most likely because of all the glycogen being broken down. I have noticed consistently I lose far more water than I can take in while fasting, at least on the first day.

    2nd post

Made it home early enough to go run/walk and DIDN’T!! Ugh. Was hungry, tired and just couldn’t muster. Going out the door tomorrow AM before work. Clearly I won’t get it done after 😬

Also struggling with hunger today. Why?? No rhyme or reason for it.

@dykask–have to agree with @diverdog. Can see no benefit for a dry fast.

@LindaSue–your socks and that darned frostee sound wonderful.

@Shinything–hope the days get easier for work. Nothing worse than when life runs you instead of the other way around.

@JB4ME–a few of us hopped on one of the bigger Facebook groups in January and found we preferred here. But clearly our monthly challenge forum is not for everyone. Perhaps one of the other forums here?

One thing I have been doing well with is 16:8. Been solid except for Sundays which is my planned breakfast out with family.

3rd post – I’m just experimenting …. however most of the information I’ve found about dry fasting is pretty wacky. So in general a lot of people pushing it don’t have a clue what they are talking about. Also a lot of people seem to push two or three days of dry fasting, which isn’t safe and could even result in death.

My blood glucose has dropped from 101 mg/dL to 83 mg/dL about and hour ago and now is 79 mg/dL. (My fingers are getting sore.)

So it suggests I’m breaking down less glycogen than normal, not more. I’m not even as dehydrated as I would be after a normal workout, which typically causes good increase in blood glucose.

Right now I think the stress from exercise has a much more profound impact than not drinking. At this point the only noticeable impact is I feel some thirst and I’m not going to push it further.

super busy recently, didn’t get a chance to update:
Day 2, FD; 66.00kg in the next morning
    Day 3-4, NFD
Day 5, FD, Water only; 65.90kg in the next morning
    Day 6-8, NFD
    Day 9, FD

Day 8 USA (Illinois) – CD

Kept very controlled today, right about 900 calories. Happy to be home before a big storm has spread across northern Illinois. Virus is abating, feeling much better.

Tomorrow will be snow day for everyone in our area, so I hope to make some soup or such. Also hope to get caught up with all of you!

    Onward and downward.

    Day 9, NFD/CD, Norway

First of all, WOW impressed by your running Nesslock2018!! 10km most days, and once a week a half marathon?! I ran my first (and so far last) half marathon August 2016, and I still live on that hahaha  Would LOVE to have your effort to run…

Not a good day kcal wise yesterday…was my second “eat out” (eat for 100NOK-thing in Kristiansand)…Had mashed potato in redwine sauce and 160gr steak…and chocolate cake and vanilla ice for dessert…100gr of owls cheese puffs…and 100gr of milk chocolate….crappy Thursday..hahaha..

New day today, so reset button is is! Gonna go fill my waterbottle now…(I keep getting a head ache from drinking water…anyone else gets that?)

    Day 9 NSW Australia NFD

Day 9: meant to be a FD, but did baking and had to eat some to see if it was cooked grr. It probably ended up 1000 cals for the whole day, will have to do another FD on Sunday to complete the week. Trying the 16:8 today as well.

All the best for anyone doing a FD

    Day 9 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Friday weigh in has me down 1lb from last Friday. Considering I put up a load of pounds at the weekend, losing 4 of them in a few days means I WILL TAKE IT!!!
And here comes the weekend again 🍷💃🍾

Yesterday’s CD was good except for the wine we had to celebrate …….buying a plot of land!!!! So excited.

@fffrancesca welcome to the forum. I find that daily posting really keeps me motivated, and everybody here is so helpful and supportive.
@scotrodg if the scales don’t tell a kind story today try something else to witness weight loss, like measuring your waist or trying on a piece of clothing. Don’t give up.

Today is a good day to have a good day

    Day 9 – UK – FD
    Day 8 – UK – FD (538 cals)
Day 7 – UK – NFD (Feast Day!)
Day 6 – arrived back to UK – NFD
    Day 1 – 5 – Melbourne – NFD

Apologies to @daffodil2010 for not posting since Day 1 of this challenge but you have all been at the back of mind during a wonderful 4 weeks in Melbourne. My niece’s wedding was just as she had wanted and the weather played it’s part beautifully too.Lots of catching up with family and friends and enjoying great food and wine of course!!

My last FD before leaving UK was on 13/1 – whilst in Australia I only managed 2 FDs on 22/1 and 31/1 but I mainly kept to my 16:8 days. There were a few controlled days under my TDEE but I have to admit to several Feast Days……..
I did my first FD for February yesterday and my weight this morning is 53.4kg – exactly the same weight as when I left for Melbourne on January Day 14!!! Just have to love this WOL – weight maintained despite many feast days whilst on holidays involving lots of 🥂🍷

I don’t think I will be able to catch up with the posts but a huge welcome to anyone new to the challenges and be lovely to catch up with the many old timers like myself here – I hope everyone is feeling great and enjoying life 🤗

I have to admit to a big failure on the exercise front whilst I was away!!!!!!!! I paid the price as I attended my first yoga class on Wednesday AM, and it was a demanding one – even though I managed to keep up with the pace and do everything I have had muscle soreness in my thighs and arms and shoulders since then……..Out this morning with my regular walking group for what I hope to be a gently hike…….

I’m aiming for a 2nd FD today just because I feel like it so I’m starting a pocket list – At the moment there only seems to be @stone176055 who has said that they are doing one – Anyone else joining for a FD before the weekend??? just copy and paste and add your name as TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER
    @stone176055

“If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Day 9, UK, FD
A couple of feast days and my weight is back to 77.3 kg. We’re celebrating my oldest’s 21st over the w/e, so need the FD today. And then back into the swing of things next week.

    Day 9 UK FD

Was supposed to be doing a FD yesterday then ate my own weight in crisps at an art show last night. Yay!
Joining the pocket list for today.

    Day 9 – London – FD

Oh my yesterday was very hard! Very tired but talked myself into a walk, @ccco I must have misled you but tickled by you thinking of me as a runner! I do pound the streets but at walking pace and yesterday it was at a granny pace as I’m still recovering from an achilles tendon injury so limped most of the way. Managed 14,000 steps (just under 6 miles) before giving up and catching the bus home! A year ago this would have been no probs, shows how much I have let things slip…

The rest of the day was spent feeling completely wiped out, so must have over done it and maybe I’m not drinking enough water. Pleased I didn’t over do the eating (CD yesterday) as usually when I feel that tired I eat sweet chocolatey stuff that just makes me even more sluggish but a quiet day meant that I had the luxury of being able to surrender to the exhaustion.

Had a little chuckle on my walk when passing a children’s nursery playing cutesy songs to the little ones, my ears heard ‘tie me up, tie me up and tie me up some more…’ how wrong I thought!!!! My kinky brain ran away with it’s self for a brief second until my logical brain slapped me down, it was of course ‘tidy up, tidy up and tidy up some more’ – much more appropriate!

@penz and Bert1802 – loving the plane flight analogies, another chuckle.
@shinything – well impressed sticking with it during your hectic days, true grit and determination.
@michelinme – good luck with the presentation and if you have time what does OMAD mean?
@rainbowsmile – best wishes and ((hugs)) for today.

    Good luck everyone.

    Day 9, Cornwall UK, FD

Just checking in – have had a weird week. Bad news on Tuesday that sent me into an eating frenzy (and I don’t even think I’m an emotional eater!), but the rest of the week has been better and I am back on another fast day today. Weight is slowly creeping down from the standard 62.5kg it’s been for last couple of weeks – woop woop! Today should help.

Have a good one everyone – slay those snack dragons!

    Day 9 FD
I never introduced myself…. My story is probably similar to most and that I am a lifetime successful dieter, but every time I stop the weight piles back on. So I decided not to diet anymore and try healthy eating with fasting (5:2 plan). So I have had Christmas off, cleared the cupboards of the non-healthier (into my stomach) and started a fresh. Saw @daffodils2010 challenge and join in for an extra boost.

I had a shock yesterday whilst taking my dog and cat to the vets for annual jab’s and check up, I have also made my pets overweight, both dog and cat need to lose 2kg each. Unfortunately they cannot 5:2 but more exercise less snacks.

So positive thought this weekend as FD for today and Saturday and maybe treat myself to a cheeky wine with my roast dinner on Sunday.

Love @penz and Bert1802 plane analogies I have had a few ‘Maydays”

    Good luck everyone

    Day 9 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Good FD yesterday thank heavens as I’m out for dinner again tonight before going to a comedy show, last of my birthday week of treats!!

Have a lovely Friday everyone 🤗

    Day 9, Surrey (UK), NFD

Completed a FD yesterday and today will be a NFD. Weight down 2lb this week and 23lb since I started in November last year – an ongoing steady loss, which I’m pleased with. I’m finding the FDs easier to cope with now that I’ve been following this programme for 3 months. I wonder, though, perhaps the dreaded plateau is not too far away now….

@ccco – I curb that ‘antsy’ feeling by going for a swim, followed by a sit in the steam room at my local health club. Something about the steam is soothing to the body and soporific to the brain. It helps me overcome that cold feeling I get on these winter fast days. The heat stays with me until I get home.

Keep going everyone, and remember, “Scales are vanity, 5:2 is sanity”!

    Day 9, London, UK, NFD

    Quick check-in before Pilates.

Out for lunch today, so I’ve had my coffee and it WILL be an OMAD. I’ll try to catch-up with posts later and respond.

Today is the start of my weekend, so I must stay controlled!!!

    Day 9……Florida…..trying really hard!

So, I landed once again at the wrong freakin airport again. I’ve said to hell with it and parked the plane. I just decide I’m going to just hail a taxi and have them drive me to the right airport. I’m standing at the taxi stand right now waiting for the right one.
@steve toon taxi……..I’m hoping your taxi is fixed soon, I may be calling you for a ride!
The first driver that approached me gave me restless sleep and nightmares. I’m not sure today’s driver is looking a little odd too!

I’m headed into work early again, this morning. If I get off on time, my days off will start 1 1/2 hours early! Won’t that be Nice! The last couple weekends have been crazy busy, I don’t have anything really planned these next two days, so it will be nice just to hang out!

    Well, I’m off!

I talk a lot of smack for someone who tips over while trying to put on their underwear!

Day 9 Newcastle UK NFD 🇬🇧. Still off work due to a troublesome taxi. Probably the worst thing about being self-employed is lost work days. I hate all this new technology on cars computers and diesel particulate filters 😭 when it goes wrong it’s so expensive to repair. Rant over. Having a Good controlled week so far.

    Day 9, Belfast, NFD

Good FD yesterday, but nibbled whilst making dinner. Need to really knock that on the head.

I’m leaving my job next Wednesday, after 12 years. Heading out with colleagues after work today for some munchies and a few pints, should be good craic 🙂
Big changes ahoy. But doing the 5:2, my moods are better and I definitely feel more balanced. I should hopefully start my new job with confidence.

@daffodil2010 thanks so much for adding me to the …I’ll start properly logging my progress.

I’m still catching up on all the posts…lots of new members. Hello and welcome!

    Good luck everyone today x

    G’day from Brisbane,Australia

    Day 8 NFD 1530 cals

    Day 9 NFD 1460 cals

Tomorrow is a FD which I feel prepared for. Felt dispirited after FD on Day 6. It went well but I had been on the plan for a couple of weeks and was eating only 1000 cals or less on NFD’s. Felt deprived and miserable so have had 3 NFD’s now at about 1500 cals. In my usual all or nothing way I went back to starving every day. Will see what the scales say tomorrow!

Additional post – FD is going well. Little hunger but I’m a bit tried.

    Day 9, NFD, US

Oh Bert1802, what is it with these airplanes in Florida at the moment!??! My flight yesterday also went awry. I am going to give up flying, and just walk. My grand plans for Dry til Fri went up in smoke like those air trails in the sky. Sigh. There’s always next week.

    Day 9 USA Wisconsin FD

Hello from the snowy midwest. Good NFD yesterday, and the home HIIT workout went well, although I think I’m really slow at this point. @debster251 it took me 17 seconds to do the chair challenge, so for my age I’m only very slightly above average. I’m going to try to improve that score, of course :).

Our schools are closed today but most businesses are open, including the Y where I will be teaching three classes this morning (Yoga and two chair yoga) and riding the bike. Instead of increasing my bike mileage, I’m going to do HIIT. Since it’s timed, mileage isn’t an issue.

So happy to be on the forum and in this challenge. It is definitely helping me stay on track. I expect the scale will eventually cooperate, but for now I’m happy with my progress.

Good luck to each and every one of you.
    Take care, Markie

    Day -8 -USA

Down 2 lbs. today. So thats a net of 1 lb. for the week. Not sure if its water weight or not as I’m under the weather and don’t have much of an appetite. Been on chicken noodle soup the last 2 days.

Day 9 Ireland TDEE HI all. I’ve been reading through everyone’s posts this morning. Great to see how everything is going. Keep at it. This way of life really does work. Busy times in work for me which meant I disappeared from the January challenge and I put on about 4lbs over Christmas and New year which it took me all of January to lose!! But I am back to where I was and ready to start fasting again. I have switched totally to a modified paleo diet and managed to give up alcohol and caffeine entirely which..you won’t believe.. has cured my tinnitus. So fasting 2 days a week and eating paleo the rest of the time until I hit my goal which is another 14lbs. Fully confident I can do this!! And fully confident that the rest of you can too!!

    Day 9 – UK – FD

Back from Rome having had a wonderful time …. too much Peroni and Pasta!! 3lbs on but not too disheartened as I had ‘planned 6 NFDs’. The queues at the rugby meant there was less consumed than there might have been!! There was lots of walking, so that helped. It’s interesting that before I left I was feeling comfortable in my jeans and now they are filled out again… how quickly that happens!

Woke determined to get back into the swing and on a FD now. I have planned the rest of the month and also set a more realistic target (I think!) for the end of February. @fatfingers – I probably have some catching up to do!!

Just a quick add to the Pocket list!

    Day 9 – USA – FD?
Not sure if I’ll swing a FD today, but we’ll see.

    Day 9, MI, USA NFD

Snow day for the whole fam, even DH is working from home today! At weigh in first thing this morning, flabbergasted to see the scale at 144.4 lbs (down from 150 2/1), it must be a lot of water weight. On my FD, I do make it liquid only, so maybe all my water is flushing out. I’ll take it!

@mjrbcd44 I felt hungry yesterday too, I’m chalking it up to the weather. Hopefully I won’t overdo it on my NFD weekend. We can do it, stay strong🌞

@maayyaa your “eat out” days sound wonderful!

@ccco I understand that antsy feeling, I jump around and try to shake it off

@bert1802 and @penz today is another day. You can do it!

Congratulations @daffodil2010 on the land purchase! Exciting!

@markie99 I completely agree with you about this forum and challenge helping keep on track!
Thank you to everyone for the encouragement and support!

    I hope everyone has a fabulous Friday🐺

Day 9 NFD Stevensville, Maryland USA,
Well, my LFD turned into a CFD, when I got home DH forgot it was my LFD and he cooked the perfect Petite Filet Mignon 6oz (I ate 3oz) and steamed broccoli with a wonderful Bordeaux, only had one glass but really wanted the whole bottle.

Today was weigh in, reached one goal, and did not step on the scale until Friday. Only lost ½ lb. instead of 1 lb. pleasantly surprised my measurements are down so all and all I am feeling good about this week.

In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

    Day 9 – Oklahoma OK – NFD

I didn’t lose any ounces yesterday after my FD naturally I’m disappointed but … chin up!

Of course, I welcome any tips for when you have stalled! I’m doing traditional 5:2 and I am pretty sure I came in UNDER 500 cals yesterday. I had 1 c of oranges (80), a half can of tuna (60), 3 pickle spears and broth with zucchini (50) in it all day.

Day 9 NFD Stevensville Maryland @at I love your quote

Day 9 USA (Illinois in the snow) – NFD

Home scale very kind – no gain at all while at daughter’s in Utah. Maintaining 160#. Everything closed here today. But I do plan to get out to the post office and try to make it to the empty bird feeders. This SongBird feeds birds through the winter, and they are very empty!

@diana123 – I love to have a proportional amount of steak, veggies and wine on our WOL. Works for me. I do love beef in about all recipes.

@markie99 – you’re so dedicated to get out and teach your classes! I haven’t seen if my gym is even open today, but I have no plans to get into town (10 miles away) because the highways are still drifting. My local post office is far enough.

@vtenks – so glad your progress is working! It might not be just water! What part of MI are you in? I’m in NW Illinois just south of WI.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 9, Cornwall UK, NFD

Friday weekly weigh-in and 0.8kg down. This is a big number for me as this takes me to 85.4kg and a BMI of 29.9. BMI under 30 means I am no longer obese – hate that word – a label I am really glad to give up – finally – after 15 years. I am also half way through my weight loss marathon – 21kgs down and another 21kg to go. I know the scales don’t tell the whole story but I am still really pleased.

I’ll do a little celebration with my OH, who got under his 30BMI about a month before me, by have a Valentine’s Day lunch at the Cornish Vegan. Having gone completely plant-based Med diet now, it will be a pleasure to be able to choose anything from the menu for once.

@cessamandy – sounds to me like you are doing the right thing on Fast Days. You may want to check your eating on Non Fast Days. After more than 7 months on 5:2 what I eat on Non Fast Days really determines whether I lose any weight or not, as I have the Fast Days under control! Perhaps you should keep a food diary for a week or two and that may help you work out if you are overeating – calculate your TDEE on this website and it will give you some guidance on roughly what calories is right for you. Good luck – this works!

    Day 8: NFD
    Day 9: NFD Gloucestershire, UK:

Still dragon-fighting. If I could just not eat breakfast I could start the day as a FD and see how long I can go…
As several people have said, better to not eat at all for fear of arousing that dragon, eh?
So, tomorrow is another day. Saturday, a work day. Has potential.

Day 9 – SW WA USA – NFD

Good morning everyone! It’s Friday!!! Hooray!! I do love teaching but Friday is quite welcome.

@michelinme – wishing you well on your presentation & preparing with your injury. What line of work are you in?

@belfastsink – all the best as you wrap up one job & transition to a new one!

@therealwill78 – sorry you’re under the weather. Recently, when I was sick I cooked up some chicken soup. I tried the angelhair Miracle noodles, calorie free, shirataki pasta. They worked quite well. They’re made in the USA. It keeps the carbs low.

    Together we are stronger!
