Day 7 – Iceland – FD
@mjrbcd44 – your post made me giggle, it is certainly much more fun to read this forum imagining such colourful accents😄 I guess the Icelandic accent is somewhat similar to the Finnish, at least we are used to similar rolling R’s and accent on the first syllable. I have been asked several times (by curious eavesdroppers) when speaking Icelandic with friends or family abroad, if it is Finnish or Greek(!).
@daffodil2010 – wow that is interesting! It is so nice to know where the food comes from and I love cress and sprouts! I will ask for extra cress next time😋
Have a good day all!
Day 7 CD Stevensville Maryland doing 16.8 today. I do it everyday except on FDs. It is a very gloomy rainy gray day today and work is slow so feeling hungry. Will push thru for two more hours. Yesterday was a CD and it was going great until I pulled out the Vodka without even thinking and I drank more than I planned. I mix it with fizzy water to keep the calories down. Really need to get more disciplined with my alcohol intake. Another challenge I must face. On the upside I had another talk with my scales this am, I did not step on. Holding out until Friday to get on the scale is my goal for this week.
My daughter is getting married in May and my dress arrived yesterday and it is a little to tight, great motivation for me to keep onward and downward.
In a world where you can be any, be kind. Have a great day
Day 7 USA Wisconsin NFD
This challenge is going well for me. Not sure if I will meet my goal to lose a pound this week, but scale is going in the right direction and my motivation is strong, so it could happen, thanks to all of you.
Besides completing a controlled NFD, my other plans for today include teaching a chair yoga class and riding the bike for 6 miles (I have raised the number of miles, because I realize I can easily bike another mile at this point) at the gym. I also volunteer at the library in the computer area on Wednesday afternoons, so that will round out my day.
RECIPE: I adapted an idea for a fast treat from another area of the forum. Microwave a peeled and chopped apple, covered, for about 2 minutes, sprinkle with cinnamon and the sweetener of your choice and enjoy. I think you could also add butter, nuts, etc. but I did not and I thought it was great.
I wish a good day to everyone. Take care, Markie
Day 7 Las Vegas NV NFD
Yesterdays WFD went well. I do drink black coffee and I backed up my last cup to noon instead of 3:00. Slept better as a result.
I admire and also scratch my head about those of you that are compelled to run long distances. I had my fill in the military and the only time I run now is when someone really large and dangerous is chasing me! LOL Way too much wear and tear on the body, boring as heck and it’s not very effective for fat loss or muscle building. Give me HIIT on the bike and weight lifting anyday.
Off the the gym for stretching and a lower body weight workout.
Day 8/16:8/CD/Melbourne Australia
Still very hot and humid at 2am.
Thank you for the Percy Pig explanation. Very colourful. I’m surprised Percy hasn’t made it to Australia.
@therealwil78 are you following 5:2? My advice to make this a sustainable WOL is to relax on NFDs and concentrate on mindful healthy eating. Counting calories always did my head in. The weight loss will still happen.
@mjrbcd44 your post made me chuckle. I’d love to hear your take on the Aussie accent.
Hoping to get some sleep soon. Have a wonderful day everyone
Day 7 – London, UK – 16:8
Hello Everyone!
Today I am feeling a little bit tired, not sure why. My body has been adjusting still to the fasting windows and it has gotten colder here in London. Maybe that is it. I am keeping my macros on track, eating a low-moderate carb diet. After I adjust to the fasting, I want to adjust to carb cycling as well. This seems more reasonable and feasible in terms of social eating.
Yesterday I had my strength training session and everything was perfectly fine. I am still amazed that I can lift as much as if I had eaten something before. Today, I just walked 2km (grocery shopping) and no more physical exercise, just studying in front of the computer.
As for the stomach acid that I had commented before, it has passed! I realized that drinking more water and tea helped with this issue. Big gulp before bed and when I wake up is also a must.
I also ordered a scale, as much as I don’t like weighing myself, but feeling comfortable in front of the mirror and on my clothes, I said to myself I will try to see the changes and compare to the weight as well. In the past, when I used to feel fat and see myself fat, I was weighing around 7kg more than I should. And it seems to be the case everytime, so, why not try to maintain my weight at the 50kg mark? If I use the scale, I can prevent from getting fat. Note that I am very short, like a 10 year old child, so, I look heavy with 57kg!
That is it for now and when I get my scale, I will weigh myself and see if I lost anything. I feel leaner indeed, as if I have lost something. Probably just water, but it feels good already.
Luck everyone and keep going!!
Let me just add, that I feel very positive. I started to realize that feeling hungry is not the end of the world. In this first week, I learned how to control my impulses more. I have more control of myself. It is not my belly or taste buds that will be the boss, but I am the boss now.
Before, when I got hungry, I would be very angry and irritable, but now, it became a normal state, somehow. I hope it will continue like this!!!
Day 7 – FD – Budapest
Got my yoga in this morning, yay.
Today’s FD is harder than others… I’m SO HUNGRY, but I’m already done with my calories for the day. I guess I’ll just sip on my tea and try to forget about it. Tonight we’re going to a friend’s house to watch a movie so maybe that will get my mind off of food.
It’s really encouraging to know that I’m not alone in doing this, and that so many of us are going through the same thing. I’m so glad to have found this community <3
Day 7 – SW WA USA – NFD
So enjoying the sun! Apparently we had 3 wks in a row without a totally dry day. The sun helps my spirits!
@Mjrbc44 – I agree, it’s a treat to imagine where everyone is on this globe as I read the posts imagining the accents.
@cogumela17 – you post 16:8 but not whether it’s a FD or NFD. Have you read Dr.Mosley’s 5:2 book? From your comments I was wondering if perhaps you’re just starting out and aren’t yet aware of what the 5:2 entails. It’s usually recommended to begin this WOL following the basic 5:2 and then perhaps tweaking later if needed.
Have a wonderful day folks! Together we are stronger!
Thanks for the good advice @onahealthyhigh. I do think I focus too much on the cals.
Day 7 USA (Utah visiting) NFD
Still taking it due to this virus, easy but hardly eating. That’s okay. Not really all that hungry. I didn’t even finish the brunch I made yesterday. That’s not like me! I generally know what I can eat and make exactly the right amount. Oh well!
I fly home tomorrow back to Illinois, Lord willing. There is a storm coming through Chicago, so I could even get delayed. It wouldn’t be the end of the world, but I hate trying to make up missed flights.
@borealis – isn’t it interesting about our foods coming from other places! And @daffodil2010 knows about it. So cool.
Onward and downward.
@mjrbcd44 Don’t go upsetting everyone in England by referring to us all as Londoners! 🙂 Crikey, the next worst thing for us would be to mention Brexit! Here’s a link to Jarvis Cocker speaking my Sheffield accent (or at least a south Sheffield accent, the north of Sheffield is quite different).
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19910628
@borealis I love the Icelandic accent. It’s very crisp and nordic, with a sing-song lilt you only seem to get from islands.(I think). I had a great time there a couple of years ago & my son is visiting later this year.
@ioanamaus – yes, doing this together is a huge help. This forum especially seems to have the most supportive individuals. When I was struggling, I would find the forum, read others’ posts, and be encouraged!
Hi, DingPing! I just read your post. I so love London (of course, I love the countryside, too! Who doesn’t!)! I am such a city person myself, born and bred. I have family there, although I come from New York City. Why don’t you do your exercise in Hyde Park? It so beautiful there! I was a little concerned once when my husband insisted my kids could go to a concert in the park without us! I was a nervous wreck but my kids thought they were in seventh heaven, no parents and a free famous band! Stay strong! 🙂
FatFingers! Good luck! I used to weight myself daily but I found that weighing myself that often is too discouraging, not to mention addictive! I like a positive surprise at the end of the week better! Of course, it’s not always positive! 🙁 I do like the little saying you put at the end of your post, plus I agree with it! 🙂
Hi, Diana! Good luck with that fast day. I gave up all alcohol until I lose the weight. Then I will continue with my lovely evening wine cool downs. I do love my wine, so it was hard to get rid of, even temporarily. It was only after reading about the benefits of fasting to rid myself of inflammation, as alcohol is a autoimmune trigger. We have a lot of autoimmune diseases in my family. I haven’t seen any results then but am hoping and being patient.
Wonderful about your daughter’s upcoming wedding. I had a lot of fun last year because of my involvement i my daughter’s wedding planning. It wasn’t so much fun with my son’s wedding. It was in Oregon and usually, the bride to be has all that fun!
Good luck today with your fasting! Stay strong! 🙂
Day 5:NFD
Day 6:NFD
Day 7:NFD Gloucestershire, UK.
Still away fighting that wretched dragon! Monday was supposed to be a FD. So, tomorrow I should fast….it’s Thursday, it’s been a week.
My only excuse, if you call it one, is I’m a bit more hassled this week because I’m on a rural delivery. Rural deliveries are long and hard. However, tomorrow, just for one day, I’m on a nice easy town delivery….hooray!!
We shall see what happens…..
Cogmela: I just read an article by Dr. Mercola that I found helpful and encouraging. He says that while you are hungry, you are still burning glucose. The hunger will go away once fat burning sets in. In other words, your body is in transition and on its way to what we want, fat burning. Fat burns more slowing, so you feel full during this period. I am waiting today for that to start. I am in hunger mode right now but holding up! Stay strong! 🙂
Day 7 Stevensville Maryland -USA @ccco Yes I am going to have to face the alcohol dragon. I know that alcohol will slow down all benefits of fasting. WOW my son’s wedding was in Sea Side Oregon right on the beach in 2007. He now lives in Battleground WA. I lived in the Portland area for 20 some years but I was born and raised in Maryland and I love living on the Chesapeake Bay.
In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
ccco USA FD Day 7: I’ve been on a 16:8 fast since Moday when I was supposed to be on a FD but the dragon got me! Today I am on a FD (water only) and amazingly, doing well! It’s very cold with sleet and rain today, so I missed my yoga again today. Schools are all closed and we are waiting for an ice filled evening commute! Instead of exercising, I cleaned my house! That’s an exercise in itself, especially since I have arthritis.
I came across a wonderful article online by Dr. Mercola. I read all about the different fasts and it was very interesting. He doesn’t cite 16:8, though, but he refers to a Peak Diet. That is what he says he does and is very similar to the 16:8 diet. Only, on this diet, you have a choice of how to set up your eating and non eating windows. He said to do what you can handle. I am good with that idea. He also mentions a meter to measure your glucose levels. It’s a way of keeping track of your markers. He says that you lose 1/4 pound of mush max per dayk if you fast for two days or longer.
My fast regimen is longer than that but he recommends a particular inexpensive meter to monitor
your blood sugar level. He recommends you measure your level as soon as you come off your FD time frame, whatever that is. If your if you have a sudden rise in blood sugar when you haven’t eaten that is a sign of glutogenesis, which is a sign you are producing glucose from a non glucose precursor, such as protein (meaning you are breaking down lean muscle mass) which is not healthy. He recommends a glucose meter to prevent that. Use it when you break your fast to see what is happening. I may also tell you what your best fasting window is. He recommends the $7 Bayer meter, which you can purchase on Amazon. The strips are less than 25 cents apiece. I think I am going to try that! Stay strong every!
Day 7 Akron OH FD
The struggle continues. I am so behind on posts it is not even funny. I am literarily hanging on by fingernails this month. Still sticking to FD though thank God. I am so thankful that this WOL is such a no-brainer. None of my past complicated eating plans would have worked; although I do get light headed once in a while but when I do I eat something quick and move on.
Boy will I be glad when we are done with all this; good times!!
Day 8 – Melbourne FD 103.2 kg
I have completed two fast days since I started. Today is my third. I have lost 1.6kg since beginning of Day 1. I do find my weights fluctuates by a lot, during that time i did go up to 105.9 kg. Hopefully during this coming week my weight wont go up by too much. I will make another entry in a weeks time.
Day 7, NFD, US
Had a relatively controlled day yesterday which is good. Aiming for the same today. I was planning a FD tomorrow but the blood bank van is coming to work and I always like to donate. I’ve donated once before on a FD and was fine, but after reading others’ terrible experiences when trying to do the same, I’ll allow myself a rare 500 cal meal before they tap my vein. (I usually do LFDs.)
Day 7 California NFD Maintenance
@coco, I weigh daily and see ups and downs in my weight. I thought about weighing weekly, but what if my weekly weighin was on a high day?
@songbirdme, hope you feel better tomorrow. There’s nothing worse than traveling when you’re sick.
Day 7 Stevensville Maryland CD day @anna6 thank you I try to live by that.
Day 7: FD
Day 8: NFD
My first fasting day went well, I think I just managed under 500cals, I had a bacon and egg pie (without the pastry) with heaps of veges in it for lunch/brunch and a lettuce salad for dinner and a slice of a healthy beetroot, chocolate and orange cake for dessert (heres the recipe if anyone is interested https://nadialim.com/recipe/chocolate-beetroot-orange-cake-gluten-dairy-free/ )
Been going to the gym most days but not this morning, I think it would be good on the day after a fast to hit the gym before breakfast, double calorie burning :)so I will try next time.
I am a uni student, and have been reading in the PubMed database journal articles on intermittent fasting and they have been really positive about weight loss.
I find I am more disciplined with my eating on my days that I am not fasting too.
All the best for Day 8 everyone, hot and sunny here, beach weather.
Day 7 – Fife, Scotland – 16:8
Led myself into a 16:8 day by not leaving enough time for breakfast this morning, got through the day OK though. Cycled just short of 11 miles on the mountain bike tonight which is a real plus as I haven’t done a midweek cycle for a while.
Full fast day tomorrow.
Rodger
@ccco there are a number of different approaches practiced here. Some people count calories and eat to their TDEE, others calculate their TDEE for their goal weight and eat to that, others don’t count calories at all. Personally I don’t count calories, I’ve worked on watching portion sizes and replacing negative habits with healthier foods. I hated counting calories and points I found it lead to obsessive behaviours and was unsustainable. It was great looking back after 6 months and finding 43lbs gone using this relaxed approach.
Onahealthyhigh! Thanks for your comments. I think that sooner than later I will have to stop counting calories, too! I become too focused on eating and wind up eating way too much. I wasn’t doing that originally and was losing weight. Now I am eating too much after my fasts and have begun to put the weight back on. Being obsessive seems to be working against me.
Day 7 FD 800cal Oregon USA
Well I am certainly glad if I made a few of you giggle and send my apologies to the lovely Brits–didn’t mean to imply you all were Londoner’s, more that it would be a convenient place for you all to meet up? Maybe not. But as noted, my geography of Great Britain is limited. 😊
@johnnyr thank you for that fabulous link. Love that accent!! And @borealis I will be youtubing Icelandic accent as now I am very curious!
Last night was somewhere in between over TDEE and an EFS.
It wasn’t because I exercised– it was simply me “not caring” when I absolutely could have and should have stopped eating.
🐊🐊🐊 (He’s as close as my phone has to a dragon).
Today is 850 (not the 800 planned but not terrible)
Tomorrow will be my first day of going to work and then coming home and going for a walk/run. Wish me luck as I will definitely need it!!
And it is another 800 calorie day. Hoping that by Friday I will have paid penance for last weekend and Tuesday night.
I am sure there will be many fasters tomorrow so will hop on the pocket list in the morning!
Good night all.
Day 8, Norway NFD
The sudden FD went fine yesterday, switched from a Thursday fast (today) to an “all of the sudden wednesday fast” due to some eating out. I ate a fish soup, home-made style, just not home made by me. Very good and actually low in kcals i think… 94kcals pr 100grams…gotta be good, right? I ate about 400grams, but that is all i had.
Going to keep it to a minimum of kcals today as well, the scales showed the correct numbers today…at least the first two numbers…the number behind the comma could be lower 🙂
Good luck to all the fasters today.
@diverdog that’s really interesting, so you find HIIT and weight lifting better at losing weight and toning up?
I have been running 10km most days and once a week 21km for over a year, I lost 8kg but am so sick of cardio fitness I am trying HIIT and resistance, and this diet, I am hoping to lose weight quicker and easier as I have plateaued from cardio and it just feels like so much hard work, surely there’s a smarter weigh ha
