  • Celtic,

I have a samsung phone and tablet. I can change the brightness by just bringing the top down… sorry don’t know technical term. I just put my finger on top of screen and drag it down, the brightness is there along with wifi settings etc…

    Hope this helps

    Audrey

    Hi Celtic
You want menu > setting > my device > display > brightness. Mark the box automatic
    Hope this helps

    Hi All,

Lot of good advice given as above, a lot of different ways but really everybody is right….whatever suits the individuals. We all like different food, if you are not having a lot have something you enjoy…within reason.

Welcome little me…..lots to take in but you will find what suits you..

Audrey……you will possibly loose 2 lb next week…no worries, you will do it.

We have decided to have a Tuesday and Thursday FD…..I don’t like changing the day but hubby has stated his case! Our lovely lamb joint we have had for dinner today is too bloody good to have with a salad tomorrow!! I am humouring him and letting have his own way.

    Have a lazy evening all,
    Jean X

    with you there Jean

there are some things too good to mess with, lamb joints is one of ’em!

    Audrey

love your lack of tech acumen, girl after my own heart

    Self taught milena. …. haha

found out 2/3rds of a glass of my red wine glass is the same as a full glass of my water tumble.

Is there now less than 2/3rds in my wine glass?

    Of course not!

but, Aud, together we are stronger.

Who would have though a diet forum could forge such friendships?

    Milena

    💕💕💕❤❤❤👭👭

hi guys im from Warwickshire just started today where is the best place to find recipes for fasting days any help appreciated

ha ha Milena, you made me laugh about the ‘tummy and ass’ thing

I have lots to lose, several stone

me too, though have lost three (nearly 4 but Christmas happened, such is life) – am at this moment trying to cajole hubby and son to get me chocolate!!! Would you believe they are both hunting through the cupboards to see if there is anything left from Christmas?

    And you call yourself stupid??????

Whats the betting they will go to the local shop for me? Though it shuts in 40 minutes!

Must say I am feeling really really full, so WHY do I crave chocolate?

Son has just popped his head around the door and asked me if I want ferrero rocher – given him instructions, magnum, galaxy or ferrero roche IN THAT ORDER!!!

Mad thing is I a completely confident that I can do a 12 lb reduction to end of February, and I am 3 pounds down, and yet I demand chocolate. Isn’t the female brain amazing?

    Morning all
Well lost 2 lb this week well pleased with that as had a bad back last week and couldn’t exercise.

    Hi Lynda

You will do that zip easy at this rate. What do you struggle with most.

Mine is bloody wine. Drank a whole bottle of red over the day yesterday .. all that sugar. What a waste of a good week… so annoyed.

Right now I have written it… going for cold turkey till Easter Friday. Xx

    Lolol

My last post included the number 666 wonder if it was telling me something. Lol Xx

    Hemmy

My downfall is drinking my favorite tipple vodka as I always end up eating salted peanuts come home and start on the cheese I always tell myself I’m only having 2 vodka’s hahaha! That never happens……..so not drinking till the wedding now I being so strict on myself but it’s the only way.

Milena…with you with the chocs, I really have to keep off them or if I start I crave them..hubbys got the sweet tooth so we push each other. I have a stack off plain choc from Aldi with the 5 mini bars inside 1 bar..so we have one each if we are desperate …hubby found these when I was unwell..I shall have to find a new hide hole…

Welcome…. Isbsly, hope you enjoy our little crowd plenty of help on here…

Off to York today for a walk around burn some calories hopefully..

    Jean X

    Hi Audrey

Yes not feeling too bad. Bruising coming out now and it is a lovely black colour. The aches and pains are less now though, hopefully within a couple of weeks they will disappear.

    Hi KT

Yes, I used to jump on and off the scales as well. It is good to measure everything going in. No slip ups then. I think many of is on here were over eaters that is why we are here. I found that my fitness Pals allowance was more realistic than TDEE as this is only the energy we expend and we have to eat less than this to lose weight. Like you biscuits in the house wouldn’t last long, so I don’t usually buy them. Same goes for many foods. Many of us also have that contrary button. 🙂

    Oh Milena

How disheartening that must be. Is is something to with not having a gall bladder? I really feel for you. I hope you lose inches. Maybe you and Audrey are waterlogged!

    Hi Celtic

Like you many of us have found that this is tge only way that works. I think that it not feeling deprived for long lengths of time that has kept us all on it. That and the fact that it does work. We all get motivation from one and other and our trials and failures as well. It is nice to see that given a bit of sticking to they can be overcome. You also do your fair share of encouragement and it is just nice to feel part of something where there are people like us who understand the problems of losing weight and also that we do give in to temptations. Together we really ARE stronger….. and more focused.

I find it too difficult to stick to liquid only days as well. Yes Pareto was very wise!!

    Hi LittleMe

Welcome to the thread. You will get a lot of help here. This is a really good ways of life and a lot of us have been here for some time. Do you have a lot to lose? You will work out what suits you on a fast day. We all do things differently. At the moment I have soup mid afternoon and dinner late. In tge nicer weather my soup will normally be melon. I alsways have my cups of tea with milk counted of course. This means less good but this is fine with me as tea fills me up and I have a bigger cup with the same amount of milk in it.

Try out Heck Chicken Suasages. They are really low calorie and make a nice alternative. I eat a lot of chcken, mostly chicken in fact. You can look up other ingredients on their site. They are really nice and taste like ordinary sausages but they are a bit smaller, more like chipolatas.

You will find what suits you best after a couple of weeks.

    Hi Lynda

Nice to see you here, haven’t seen you in a while, how are you doing?

    Hi again Celtic

I suppose while you are asleep you can’t eat. Re tablets (different kind) I have an iPad so can’t help sorry.

I shall post this now but as I can see posts on the next page may post again.

    Ginette

    Hi Isbsly

Welcome to the thread. You will settle in quickly and be amongst friends who understand as we have all been there. Have you got much to lose?

    Hi Lynda

Well done on your loss. I do three days as well and I am fasting today. My other days are Wednesday and Friday.

    Hi Hemmy

It sounds like a lot of us have a sugar addiction. Whether this is in the form of alcohol or biscuits and chocolate. There is a programme we all need to watch Sugar Farm. It is on tomorrow, I shall check tge channel out and put a time on here. Maybe we all need this.

    Hi Jean

Yes it must be strange changing fast days. I have to programme everything around them. A meal out can only really be Thursday or Tuesday at a push. This allows much less time for transgression. Yes it is nice to fit into clothes that were too tight. I have had some taken in so there is no going back!!

    Hi Lynda

I did the fast Beach Diet. It is very similar to this one and created my Mimi Spencer. It is basically 5:2 with a lack of sugar and limited carbohydrates. I lost about 16lbs on it if I remember correctly. I did have a lot to lose though and that must make a difference.

    Ginette

    Ginette,

Glad to hear from you, and I am really pleased to hear that you are finally feeling better.

I tend to do different fast days every week because I fit in with Ians working pattern of 4 on 4 off. It is a bit difficult at times but some weeks I manage to do a 6 2 and another will manage a 5 3. It depends on my social life I tend to be busier in the summer. I am enjoying working out again, and although I haven’t lost much weight as yet I have certainly toned up….

Keep in touch, it’s great you are back….I missed you!

    Audrey

    Hi everyone

So good to talk to people who know EXACTLY what I am going through. Until the age of 47 I could eat ANYTHING I wanted and never put on one ounce. Then suddenly as if someone had flicked a switch, the pounds were slowly…………….creeping on. I stayed below 10st (140lbs) for years but this last 18 months has seen me get up to 159lbs! Not good and definitely not healthy.
The hardest part for me is socialising. I have a lovely large family and am lucky enough to have some fab close friends. All of this means I go out for meals and like the occasional bacardi (!) I feel very uncomfortable in my skin at the moment, in as much as it is getting difficult to sit down and not feel the pressure of my thick waist. Also, my clothes do not look the right size – they are too small that’s why! and I have no intention of buying a whole new wardrobe that’s for sure.

I am here to gain and offer support and hope that I can help someone else have the success that we all want! It’s very encouraging to read the success stories of others and that motivates me to begin and start planning.

I am an ex Slimming World devotee, but am feeling the urge to do something different.

    Hi susie and welcome,

You will certainly get support and motivation here, we have I think to the most part tried and failed many different diets.
I like to think of 5 2 as a way of life not a diet and I intend to stick to it even when I reach my target weight in order to maintain….

I have been here for 11 months now, although to be honest I lost my way a bit at the end of last year, I have lost 2 stones it was more! And I have another 30 lbs to go. …

If you need any help or advice shout out we are a very friendly group of people all in the same boat, we don’t judge or call people just support and encourage. ..

    Audrey

Guys just wondering what u all do for excercise and how often. I power walk on treadmill for half hour 5 days a week covering about 3 and half miles.

    Hi little me

I work out on my wii for about 1 hr 5 times a week, sometimes boxing sometimes dancing. … I also gave just been bought a fitbit so am trying to do 10,000 steps a day

    Hope this helps

    Audrey

Thank you Audrey. I do manage to do 10000 steps per day. Will try and get on the wii

Hi Ginette How is it going for you.xx

That sounds an interesting program… about the sugar. Funny part is my taste for sweet stuff .. cakes .. biscuits etc has gone. Still struggling with the wine. I have had a complete rest from it for months on end… And it shows in the weight loss Trouble is I have an addictive nature… a friend once said if I have a boiled egg one day I will have it for a year. lol

So I have marked Easter on the calendar for my next drink. A new move this evening as I tend to associate feeding Piper with my first glass of wine.. it will be sparkling water with a touch of red Shloer for colour. I will damn well crack this habit.

So stupid doing these FDs then drinking so much wine/sugar. Brit willpower at the fore. Lol

ah, that sugar addiction, what a nightmare

I am not going near chocolate at the moment, as I know that however much I think I want that first piece, I will certainly want the second piece even more and so on.

I have just come back from a nice 1.5 hour walk, but it is not so much fun now I don’t have a dog for company.
I live alone and so I don’t have issues with ‘social life’ as I barely have one. Also I don’t really like alcohol so that is not an issue (apart from the odd cider, or port mmmmmmmmmm)

I certainly don’t exercise as much as many of you do. Just walking and then a few minutes a day on the exercise bike – more than that and my backside hurts lol. Oh and I am trying to remember to do a bit of tai chi, as it is great for strengthening.
I think it would be good for me to go to some sort of aqua fit, but I have no desire to be seen in a costume, and I have no one to go with. It is so hard doing things alone.

Anyway for now I will stick with this and see how it goes, and when the weight loss slows down too much I will have to reassess.

Ginette, I don’t work out calories for the rest of the week, but I know it is way under my TDEE, unless ofcourse I ‘go off on one’!

Oh Milena, I remember once finding a small kitkat at the back of a cupboard, when I was desperate for something sweet, – I was ecstatic!!
I used to live near a Tesco express, so going out late at night for ‘supplies’ was all too easy. Now the nearest Tesco is a 15min walk and far too lonely to do at night. I have in the past, hoarded my favourite chocolate bars when they were on offer, and hidden them – not so much from me, but from the family so they didn’t know what I was eating. Now I am on my own I wouldn’t need to do that.

    Hi Audrey

It’s nice to be missed but I was on here yesterday. I had to check back for myself. Yes exercise definetly does tone us up. Not quite up to that now and the urge isn’t there yet, I’m sure it will come though. .

    Hi Susie

You are welcome to join us. Slimming world didn’t work for me. I like some of their recipes as long as they are calorie counted. I liked a nice baked potato, pasta etc. this has always led to increasing weight though. As much as I love carbs they don’t like me.

This is a nice easy way to lose, you need a couple of weeks to get into the swing of it. Shout if you need help. Those clothes will soon fit.

    Hi Little Me

I used to use the Wii and will get back there. I loved Wii Fit in its time. Audrey and I use Exerbeat now. There are so many exercise routines on there, enough to keep anyone busy. The range from a couple of minutes to over half an hour. It is nice as you can mix and match them. Dance, hip hop, boxercise, aerobics and may others. This was released some years ago and has some quirky things about it. You exercise your way around the world.

    To be continued…..

    Hi Again

I thought I would find a link as there is too much to explain about the game. This is an American review but it is obviously the same as an English one. It is available on EBay any the moment.

    http://diehardgamefan.com/2011/05/27/review-exerbeat-nintendo-wii/

    Hi Hemmy

I am getting back in charge again. I have lost half of the weight that I put on over tge few weeks up and over Christmas. So only 5lbs left to get back to my original weight. Aches in my arms and knees a little less now, I shall soon be right as rain. Why is it that if I get a black eye the other one cones out in sympathy?? I have big coulered bags under one and also a little under the other. I would say a sight for sore eyes!! 🙂

Well done on the wine. The program is on ITV at 8pm tomorrow. I have a sweet tooth but I am also working my way through a large container of Brie that I was given. A little on NFDs.

    Hi Keep trying

You sound very similar to me in many ways. I’m not interested in alcohol but show me a chocolate digestive…… Well you know the rest.

    Ginette

Little me – I obviously work the hardest!

I use up soo much energy cheering everyone from the sidelines, getting behind you all and pushing – pulling the slackers along – holding up the ones who fail, and actually reading what everyone does is very very exhausting. not to mention how much hard work it is shopping for the pom poms and ra-ra skirt, but I must be well dressed, I take my cheerleading role very seriously!

I have been known to walk a bit but not consistent, have been to the gym a couple of times but not often, sis in law has a personal trainer, young and handsome of course, could be tempted, but I’d rather drool over James Martin frankly.

I have a wii but son sold the discs. I have dumbells, but frankly they are a hard habit to pick up!

Niece is doing a personal trainer course and has offered to train me for free – how can I say no?

    I will find a way!

I’m on the fitness protection program and I might just stay here!

I’m going for a lie down now!

Thanks very much for the welcome, girls. As we speak I am rather hungry. Intend to have salmon for tea. After doing Slimming World I do expect to feel hungry on the fasting days but that’s something I will get used to.
Feeling determined. Have taken my measurements – Grim!! That should motivate me if nothing else does! lol

The trick is, not to eat badly on the non-fasting days. I do normally eat a pretty healthy diet but sometimes it’s chocolate that is my downfall during the working week, and alcohol on a weekend evening. It’s all do-able though, in moderation. Not a word I am best friends with.

    Have a good evening everyone.

    Love,Sue xx

milena, you do make me laugh

I wonder how many calories I can burn off laughing!?

Good morning friends hope all is well with you and yours. x

Another very mild day .. snowdrops appearing and daffs nearly in bud. Anyone got any full out yet?
Just love this fresh green.. always feels like a new season coming with new hope.Xx

Hope everyone had a good FD yesterday .. and Sym..Hubby… Aud and anyone else have a good one today.

A big welcome to Susie..Hope you will enjoy this way of life. I have heard good reports about Slimming World but I think you will find 5/2 slots into your life so much easier. Good luck .. stay with us. Xx

Sooooooo Verrrrry …. excitttted… as Ginette and Aud knows I have found it hard to curb my wine vice. Well I just love a drop of Shloer and sparkling water in a big wine glass. I usually drink a dryish red wine and this combination is brilliant not sweet.

    Give it a whirl guys.

Oh I do wish I had thought of it ages ago. Just goes to show everything can be tweaked… rather than go without … just find another alternative.

Oh ah wonder what else can be done … any ideas guys?

Have a brilliant day all our little band of Merry Brits and anyone looking in.. Pop in have some tea and a chat. Xx

Its time to stand and cheer ourselves…We have recognized the challenge and are doing something about it. Be proud. Xx

    Morning all,

I had a great meal out yesterday, chicken cooked 3 ways grilled chicken breast, southern fried chicken breast and chicken skewers served with Coleslaw salad and chips, I followed this off with sticky toffee pudding ( my favourite )…. I didn’t have wine I had water! I think it came to under 1600 kcals in total, not too bad. I have had a quick weigh in and have maintained. … think jean must be right with her normal food approach.

Hemmy good tip on the drink above. …

Anyway I am back hitting the wii again today, I have put a joint of beef in the slow cooker, and we are having that for our evening meal tonight, served with lots of veg, and a few small potatoes. … no Yorkshire puddings for me!

Hope you are all ok keep in touch, I am fasting Friday and Saturday this week.

    Audrey

    Morning All,

Milena……you are so funny you made me laugh…….what a long funny review. X

Hemmy..lots of daffs stalks but no heads in the garden…did see a large clump of snowdrops when out yesterday…Springs on its way…lovely.

Audrey…your meal sounds really lovely and sticky toffee pud one of hubbys favourites has to be with loads and loads of custard. No red wine. Oh you are good …..I would have had one or half of Guinness !

Susie…..I used to do Slimming world and quite liked it…still I don’t think there is anything I haven’t tried over 40 years…cabbage diet ugh…I think this is the easiest and good to fit into your lifestyle…two carrier bags of diet books I gave to the doctors bookshelf…I only now have one book!

Keeptrying….must be hard to keep motivated when on your own but you seem to get out and do your excerise, which is good 1 1/2 hours is a good walk. Remembering when the children were about 10 & 12 …arguing with myself to have a chocolate biscuit or not…1 or 2 ?…all day long doing this ….then going to the biscuit tin at ten at night finding them all gone…little tinkers…I think my language was stronger!

Well out and about in York yesterday nothing bought, would like a new blouse for travelling….but of course lunch out! Lamb in fridge for tonight… a very loose FD for us today…I just knew if we don’t stick to the Monday FD it gets iffy…out today to Doncaster NO lunch….hubby has got his holiday head on looks like I am on my own this week ….accept for everyone on here. Had a sneaky weigh in not looking good for Friday!

    Have a good day everybody
    Jean x

    Hi Aud and Sym

Makes my mouth water with the chicken dish at Ian’s dinner then that beef roast for tonight. PLUS Syms lamb. Blimey. Lol

Glad your weight looks good Aud after all your hard work.
Hope your Mum is doing ok.Xx

Sym sounds like hubby is already downed tools or scales lol and is there on holiday already. Bless him. Reminds of that’s how my Andrew would have been. While I would have stuck rigidly till the holiday. Lol Always telling me not to worry so much. Lol

Hope everyone in our little corner is doing ok. … Plus .. Priscilla.. Dolly … Bev .. Newbs..Chubby.. and anyone else we have met along the journey. Xx

Hemmy…….Productive day in Doncaster, three tee shirts and three blouses bought….I am quite pleased with.

Hubby was good picking this, that and the other, carrying arms full of stuff for the try on..a lot more positive than me usually nothing fits..then I am fed up and come home with nothing!! So good day.

FD …what FD…not a good day up to now on those lines..we will see how the day pans out…still tomorrow is another day. Is it 10 weeks I have been doing 5.2…. Can’t remember…..It is the first bad day not including Xmas.

Andrew sounds very much like hubby…maybe the men are more like that than us….we want every morsel off……he says when back the weight will come off…..very positive..

Audrey……..enjoy your beef, I went in the butchers for beef came out with lamb..we love both lol x

Hope all fasters today are doing better than us..

    Jean X

    Milena, Keeptrying and Susie,

I have to own up or Hubby is coming on line…😁

I know you will all understand….I want dispensation from fasting and eating what I shouldn’t ..Muslims get this travelling when fasting… When flying the tea and coffee is usually awful…..in the hotels UT milk also terrible…..food not great…….you can’t buy decent biscuits or chocolates…….

I have bought a stash of biscuits and chocolates £10 in all…£5 each that doesn’t sound so bad…to help to make my drinks nice. 😀

Can I have the OK…..from everybody……..if we are really good when coming back 😇

    Jean x

ahhhhhhhhhh £10 on ‘nice’ things sounds like bliss

I am on fd today but felt real pangs watching others eat biscuits and chocolate and one person saying she is having biscuits for tea.
    but no
I have been good and will have my ham salad in a bit

if you are travelling then that DOES require extra foods doesn’t it?
where is your are going – or have I read it and forgotten?

    Symba Symba Symba!!!!

(Imagine me saying that with a VERY disappointed face)

What can I say – I have tried, but seems no one listens. Here I am, sitting between a bar of galaxy and a box of ferraro rochers – with a cup of tea, trying to drum up forgiveness for your trespasses. Its not easy, you know!

    But ok then!

How come you are in Donny? I was born there.

    Oh jean, jean, jean….

Life is for living so go away enjoy yourself in moderation then come back to us…. the main thing is ENJOY YOURSELVES……and Make sure you come back it would be too quiet without you….

You have my blessing my child. ….hehe

    Aud

    Hi Brilliant Brits!!

Well I was only away just over a week and there has been an explosion of activity on the forum! Desperately trying to catch up on all the posts x

Well done to all who lost..last week and this 🙂

Ginette..hope you are much better now after your fall x

Good to be back to a normal food/drink routine but could do without the work part..and all the washing!!

Pretty grim weather here..rain and gales..is it ever anything else?!! Poor old dog has only had one walk so far today 🙁

Have a cosy evening all 🙂 I did a FD yesterday and swopping to Wed this week as out with friends for dinner on Thurs

Hope everyone is having a positive mindful week x

    Karen
    Xx

    Hi Friends,

Thanks for the OK…I promise to be back on board when we get back..both of us.

Milena….Donny our nearest shopping city about 20 mins away…fancy you being born there…it’s got a Shopping Mal now, big but not too big…enough shops..

Keep Trying….Flying on Sunday, counting down now ..case is about packed. We are going to The Golden Triangle in India, New Delhi, Agra and Jaipor. One of our dream holidays before we depart this world. I am taking my Hubby to the Taj Mahal…you have to go with the right person. ( Second time around) We are having 7 days in India, lots of walking and travelling then flying to Sri Lanka for 7 days to crash out. Just hope our legs and feet hold out!

One good thing I don’t do a lot of curry’s only a very small portion and AI in Sri Lanka I never think the food is that good, I am fussy…..but the drinks are another thing!!

Karen…hope you had a good holiday…cleaning up before you go and washing when you come back…something for me to look forward to!

Audrey…….I will miss you all…even going out shopping you come back to all sorts going on…you feel as if you are missing something….it’s nice to have a happy band of friends…keeps you busy…

    Jean x

goodness what a trip!! think you will be entitled to eat whatever you can/like!!, hope you have a lovely time

Thanks a lot ….trying not to get too excited….keep low then it can only get better…it’s India you can expect and get anything! Xxx

    Hi Audrey

Your meal sounded nice. I had a nice pot of stew waiting fir me at Pams. She has given me the rest to bring home. Fast day tomorrow so it will have to wait until Thursday.

I just went to Asda to get some vegetables for the soup and now I know why I normally shop online. Too many temptations and yes I succumbed. So it has cost me more and it isn’t even healthy.

    Jean

Holidays are for living a little. This is why we do THIS way of life. It will come off when you are back. I too bought a pair of trousers for the gym. I now just have to had the urge to get back to it.

    Hi Karen

Yes much better thanks the eye is going a horrible yellow colour. Gives me street cried though!! Yes everybody has been going mad.

Anybody watch sugar free farm? I really enjoyed it and did feel for them, at least they are in there together. Sugar is one of the things I would find difficult. I don’t take it in drinks but I do like a bit of cake and it is in yoghurt. I also like my chocolate. I do need to start restricting it. Time to get exercising I think. That is the only time I haven’t ‘needed’ to have sugar.

Hi Hemmy, Milena, keep trying and Susie.

    Hi Everyone!

I’ve been missing for a while, but sticking to it apart from a really bad weekend!

Just been catching up on all the posts – everyone seems to be doing great and it’s lovely to hear all the encouragement given, and I’ve laughed out loud at some of them, which is a great tonic. 🙂

Had a FD today and will get weighed tomorrow, I’ve lost 7lb since begining of Jan so quite pleased with the way it’s going so far, although there are times when tempation wins!

Thanks for the inspiration, and keep on keeping on.
