  • Finally an avalanche of parcels. We have ended up with two 1 kg bags of husks…..I emailed amazon yesterday and they said they would organise another to be sent out. Fast work. Well two kilos that should keep us going (in every sense) for quite while.
Today should have been a FD but Stu is in charge of breakfast and forgot its a Thursday so we will do it tomorrow instead.

    Good evening friends.x

Celtic that strange about Amazon delivery. I order my Ikea tea lights from them and the last two deliveries have taken an age… normally here in 2 days. Hope you get the husks soon … really interested to see what you think to them. x

Karen sounds like you are going great guns with this 2 day fast. Especially doing that walk as well. Great that you made the soup after too. Look forward to your views on the B2B and any tips. Think I will try it next week. x

Audrey Lol me cheerleader Noooo just really excited about this WOL and full of it. Lol Bet you and Ginette and the other long termers have been here…ages ago. Just wish I had found this forum way back… when I was in my reclusive mood . Not only have I lost the weight but found me again.
Hope you are having a lovely time at your caravan and weed free. Lol x

Hi Ginette .. Lynda..Milena.. everyone else hope you are having a good day fast or feasting. x

    Evening ladies
Lost 1.5 lb this week so please with that as I went away for the weekend but stay in control on my eating.
Doing a 4:3 this week as got a lot on the next 3weeks as its pewsey carnival.
    Lynda x

Hi Celtic x Just re read your last post and see the husks did indeed arrive at last. Thank goodness. Good luck with your fast tomorrow… I will be joining you. x

    Hi All

Milena thanks for that but it was hot but ok. Luckily it was mild curry powder as I usually get the hot one.

I just ate it with lots of vegetable. For today I decided to start with porridge, this was for lunch with sone fruit afterwards.

It was a quite low non fast day even though I had a treat after dinner.

    Fast day tomorrow.

Luckily I don’t need any new clothes, that is not because I haven’t lost weight but because I have a lot that fit me now that were too big before and even in the next two sizes down. So it will be a while. I will treat myself when I get to a size 16. I am a 22 at the moment and have really got a long way to go. Still I am sure I will make this size sometime next year. I shall certainly try anyway.

Audrey I hope the sun shone whilst you were weeding.

Celtic I am sure that I read an email saying that they had arrived so I shall post and then look over the page.

    To be continued…….

    Ah yes…..

They will keep you going I am sure, let us know how you get on with it. I have had only one dose of my fibre today as I had porridge and lots of fruit and veg, must be about 7 portions.

Celtic did that mean you had one parcel free?

    Hi Hemmy

Yes today was feast day, I came in at 1,150 with treats! Without the treats I would be really low in fact 400 less.

I have decided to check feast days every once in a while to see what they are coming out at.

We were all excited about it for a long time, I just think of it as normal now.

Well done Lynda for the control. I am doing 4:3 as well. I quite like the routine of it.

    See you all tomorrow.

    Ginette

    Hi Ginette and all

do you put curry in chilli – new one on me, though I’m making some at the weekend, if you let me know how muchI’ll cook a portion of it – I just put in chilli powder, fresh chillis if I have any, and paprika. Might be interesting

Ginette, yes a free parcel. It was in clear bag and looks really fine . That’s why I chose that brand. Just got go get a container to store it in now.

    Morning all,

Had a good day yesterday, went shopping at lidl and got some new leggings size 10/12 bit tight but I am in them. …..

Spent the afternoon helping ian clean the van, then did a bit of weeding . Ian is cutting the grass today and finishing off the weeding, I am struggling with back pain still so am more in a supervisory role, pull that, leave that one, pull that one etc… takes ages but needs must. We have got some spring bulbs to put in too.

Off to mums tomorrow until thurs so no doubt will be feeding me up again! She is funny she likes the fact I have lost weight but still tries her best to derail me, fish pie awaits tomorrow. ..

Lynda, well done on loss this week.

Keep in touch, i am doing amother fast day today to compensate.

    Audrey

    Good morning friends.x

Had a good day yesterday then its a F day today.

Hopefully some nice weather this weekend as Kristy is off today to spend the week end in Farnham at the Weyfest Music Festival. Lucky not camping though as a friend lives near by. Mums coming to stay today till Monday . One in one out. Lol Should be an easy few days though as Mum doesn’t eat large amounts and I will just keep her company with that. Just loves to garden so hopefully thats what we will do.

Well done on your good loss Lynda bet you are thrilled, especially after being away for the week-end too. x

Hi Ginette Wow that sounds an extensive wardrobe you have there. Yes, no point in buying any new thing till you have a good wear out of them.

One thing that I am not sure about on the forum is that lots of people are going down to a lot less cals than they are quoted on their non fast days. I always thought that you should eat up to the said amount else your body would get too used to that low amount… then it would be hard too lose on any less. Iykwim. Have a good F day. x

Audrey SIZE 10/!2 leggings WHAT IS A SIZE 10 Lolol. good for you. Are you now at your desired weight? Have a lovely time at your Mums. x

Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing. x

hemmy, I’m sticking with my full calories on non fast days (not a huge amount anyway – my TDEE is 1363). Seems to work in a slow and steady way. I find it’s fat that I crave so I let butter into my life on non fast days. I’m trying not to have too much sugar on any day because I’ve had such a weakness for sweets and chocolate in the past and I’m trying to break the sugar binge habit.

    Hi Milena

Not sure about curry in chilli, I always worry about spoiling a bit pot of something.

    Hi Celtic

Well done, it is nice to get something free. I was watching bake off yesterday and see this was used to make the pitta bread, as soon as they said without flour I thought they would use this.

    Hi Audrey

Well done on getting into them, they will maybe loosen a bit and you will lose some weight so they will be fine. Enjoy the fish pie. Your Mum must love your company, something for her to look forward to.

    Hi Hemmy

Yes some of the things I have never worn. So as you say they need to be worn. I alsways have clothes that I would like to slim into. I even have my size 10 and 12 jeans but this was a long time ago. About 25 years ago during one of my good weight loss times.

I didn’t try to have low calories. Mine should be around 1500. It is just the type of food I chose, hence the treats to get the calorie counts up. I should have had a sandwich for lunch, that would have done it. As you know I am trying to include more vegetables. I sonetimes struggle to get up to calories.

Enjoy Farnham and time with your Mum.

    Pricilla

Yes it’s definitely the sweets and sugar that start cravings, that and refined carbohydrates for me. Hence trying to avoid bread on most days and potatoes as well.

I hope we all have a good loss this week. The weather has changed so time to make those soups, I have a soup maker so it should be nice and easy, I have already got the slow cooker out.

I am no fast day today, anybody else?

    Ginette

    Hi hemmy,

No I still want to lose at least another stone but probably another 20 lbs. Only just fit into the leggings they are quite tight! Next size was 14/16 which would be too big….

Fasting today so keeping busy, have a good day everyone

I stick to 1200 kcals on non fast days because that us what I will be allowed when I reach my target weight so I am getting used to eating the correct amount of food .

    Audrey

    Ginette Hi

You’re not sure? I’m confused, you wrote you had added mild curry powder in your chilli. I never had that vut thought you were using a recipe I hadn’t heard of. Did you mean you put mild chilli powder in.

I did think curry in a chilli was certainly different but didn’t want to knock it til I tried it – chocolate in chilli is lovely!!!! Didn’t know that until I tried it..

    Hi Milena

Yes, first time I said chilli, second time I said curry, my mistake I was thinking about doing a curry this must have been on my mind. I don’t fancy chocolate though, well I do obviously but not with chilli…

    Maybe curry next time!!

    Ginette

lol!!! you almost had be experimenting – weird thing is I was discussing making chilli at the weekend with Son, then he decided he wanted to try to make a curry instead. And nan bread – I did point out you can buy nan bread anywhere but he is adamant – for me to make it! Presume he will just oversee, he is having his op as I write.

Chocolate in chilli is yummy, and very traditional in Mexico, I believe. Very dark, bitter choc though, not galaxy. Enriches and darkens the sauce. Doesnt taste chocolatey.

Oh – calorie wise, quorn works very well in chilli, only thing I like to do with quorn, anything else is just odd. And of course, veggie chilli, the kidney beanscwith baked beans makes it really filling.

Heck, Pricilla, low TDEE, Im doing under 1500, my TDEE at 11 stone, but when I get my act into gear, I try to stay under 1000 for two or three days, in addition to fast days. Doing 4th fast day in a row this week, not all of them at 375 cals though, will come in at around 2000 for the 4 days.

Sometimes its quite easy, sometimes its bloody hard, occasionally impossible to do a fast day.

Audrey, are you aiming for that 20lbs by the end of the year???

Milena, a foodie friend of mine who is brilliant cook uses a combo of 70% + and coffee in his chillies and they are amazing…..depth of flavour is incredible. Waiting for him to give me cooking lession.

We use quorn in all sorts of things but then we dont eat meat or fish

    Evening all 🙂

Wow! What a lot of posts! I work all day on a Friday so now trying to catch up on all your news.

Lynda..well done with the weight loss. A great result as you’d been away at the weekend x

Milena..4th FD on the trot?!! Go you!!!

My B2B FDs went really well. I surprised myself. I think I was very determined as I knew I’d over indulged and wanted to get back on track. Wouldn’t do it every week but OK on occasions. Also good to know that my body copes OK when I’m doing Nordic, so I can mix and match FDs when I need to.

Hope you’re all having a relaxing eve and here’s to a good weekend 🙂

    Karen
    Xx

Milena, If I lose the 20 lb I will have gone from obese bmi to healthy…. hoping for end of year but when it happens it happens!

Have a good weekend everyone off to mums tomorrow for week so will not be posting as often.

Karen well done on your B2B fast

    Audrey

    Good morning friends. x

Blimey what some busy Brits you are, lol

Having a really good week … best so far. Mum here till Monday so no eating between meals and no temptation with the wine bottle. Lol I wouldn’t dare even at my age. Lol

Everyone sounds on the ball this week… True Grit Brits are we. x

I was thinking yesterday .. if my parents .. grandparents during the war could make a meal and live on a few bits and pieces of food, they had either grown in their garden or queued hours for … this is a doddle. Lol Makes you think hey.

Yay easy week-end .. hopefully lots of garden time. Not weighing till Tuesday from this week as that gives me a F D on Monday and week-end leeway.

Working on 1500 cals or there about on non days. Should be 1700. Seems to work at the moment. 21 lb to lose now. Would be 10st at 5ft 4 May go lower.

Keep it up guys we can do this … Have a good week-end one and all. Xx

    Good morning friends ! X 🙂

Hemmy and Audrey…have a great time with your Mums 🙂

Pleased to report a 0.7 kg loss this week 🙂 I think the B2B FDs really paid off. Soup was really filling on the FDs too, so I shall do more of that, especially as we move to Autumn and Winter. I have now lost 5 kg in total, just over half way to my goal. I love this WOL as it is so adaptable to everyday life..you can socialise, eat cake, have wine and still lose weight so long as the numbers add up. It’s great to be ‘normal’ and not have to deny yourself every day 🙂

Have a brilliant weekend friends X

    Onwards and downwards 🙂

    Hi All

Milena I hope the op goes well for your son.

Celtic, chilli and coffee well that is another taste I would be unsure of. I suppose the proof is in the eating.

    Hi Karen

Pleased you back to backs were a success. I did one by accident once.

    Hi Audrey

I agree that is a lot of weight to lose, but you can head for half this amount and that should be easily achievable.

    Hi Hemmy

Yes how true, during the war that had a difficult time with rationing, no obese people there! A wine free weekend hopefully the results will show next week. Enjoy the tine with your Mum.

Hi again Karen, just read you post well done on your loss.

I am pleased to report that I have lost 2lbs so although one was the pound that I had put on last week at least it shows a loss.

I’m am off to make myself brunch soon. This is the time when I can relax a little.

    Have a good weekend all.

    Ginette

Hi all. Sons op went ok, they managed to graft from his hand rather than is thigh, less painful.

Long long day though, they almost belching in vis he hadn’t eaten or peed. They let me speak to him, he had refused as he didn’t want to spoil his appetite for the steak dinner I had promised, and he hadn’t owed cos they wouldn’t let him out of bed in case he fainted from lack of food!!! Som etomes you neef a mum to sort things.

He complained the bandages were to tight, nurse said they were fine, he moaned all the way home, as his hand was turning an odd colour were got a nurse neighbour to rebandage. So from a five am start, got home at 11pm. Whew!

Audrey, 20 lbs in 17 weeks I’d doable. Go for it girl, if you reach for the stars you may get to the moon. I’ll be your co pilot on that flight!!!

That last post was one for the lexicographers

They almost kept him in because he hadn’t eaten or peed!!

    Got to mums ok

Happy to report my mifi works ok here so am still on line.

Have had a good fast day yesterday.

Have eaten 1 slice of bread for lunch with spread cheese as I knew it is fish pie for evening meal!

Glad your son’s op went ok milena, am going to do my best to reach my healthy bmi by new year, I think I work best when I have a definite target….

Karen congrats on your weight loss….

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Audrey

Milena, if he has general anaesthetic he might get weepy. A lot of hospital forget to warn people about this.
Despite having spent Thursday Friday and most of today lounging about and snoozing ( its what Stu wanted to do and for the time being I dont like being out of earshot) we have both lost over 1 lb. I am very pleased as it now means I am 13st 13.2 lb numbers i havent seen in a long while. Have a good weekend folks and roll on FD on Monday.

    Hi Celtic

We mums know best, I’ve run after him, do ded him with his meds, even put out jammies on him, he is in bed being waited on hand and foot, watching ‘still game’ and chuckling madly.

One happy boy – and is dad is fixing his racing car engine.

Great numbers! I remember that particular one, the first biggy, I started at 14st 5lbs. Into the 11s now, high end but determined to get well into the 10s before Christmas. Being a shortly, I don’t hit healthy until 10 stone, hope to get close to it by Christmas too Audrey. You know, the finishing line might not be in sight yet, but its there!!!

    Milena

Glad your son is feeling better, what height are you I am a shortie too. Only 5ft 2 so like you need to get to 147 lbs to hit my target …… I have lost 20 lb got 20 lb more yo go was less bit put 5lb back on oops!

    Audrey

    Hi Milena

Glad the op went ok. I think that the figures are ok. 2lbs lost this week so the one that I had put on last week and 1 more. At least going down.

    Hi Celtic

How are the psyllium powders going are they easy to mix? I have just ordered some benefibre from Tescos apparently tasteless and doesn’t gel. 3 tubs for £10 as it was buy two get one free. This is meant to produce less gas than psyllium. It is made with wheat dextrin but as it has such a low level of gluten it is sold as gluten free and sugar free. It apparently is a soluble fibre and two spoonfuls make a portion. There are 38 portions in a packet. I like the fact that it dissolves completely, doesn’t go gloopy and is tasteless. I shall continue to use Glucomannan until it is gone. Benefibre is meant to help with constipation and lower cholesterol. I shall get measured in a few months to see if this does help.

I know you have got lots of psyllium to get through and I hope this helps.

    Ginette

    I hope

    Hi Audrey

Oh, that makes me a much taller shorty – I’m 5ft 2 3/4 inches. Lol. I think 10st 1lbs will get me to 25,bmi, and that was my original target, but 8st 12lbs is my dream weight. Stars and moon eh?

What would be nice is for us both to get within striking distance. Nice Christmas present.

5 1 here….Hobbit height ?Stuart has taken to calling me Wee Wifey

    5ft 3 here!! 🙂

What is going on??!! Are all of us Brits shorties?!! 🙂

    Xx

Talking of Xmas we dont do xmas but celebrate Winter Solstice instead. But I bought first set of winter celebration pressies today. We discovered some wonderful hand cream and foot lotion in Waitrose the otherday its called SenSpa its got aromatherapy oils in and both are amazing. Its on 3 for 2 atm so I figured get a few pressies out the way

Ginette..Well done on your loss this week 🙂

Milena..Hope your son is feeling better and glad the op went well x

Have a relaxing evening all x

    Karen
    Xx

    I’m 5;2 eyes of blue. X

Wow are we all shorties? I used to be 5ft 2 and half but when I went to the Dr and he measured me it seems I have shrunk! If only my waist would do the same…

    Audrey

Good morning friends. Hope all is well in your world.

What a lot of post and what a lot of positive Brits.

Ginette Karen and Celtic C plus Stu.. what a Fab loss for you all this week bet you are all feeling great this week-end. Well done you. x

Milena soo glad to hear your son is home and in the hands of his Mum. Best place in the world. Hope you are feeling better too. Looking forward to hearing your news again you so made me laugh when I read the earlier pages. x

Audrey hope you are enjoying time with your Mum. Hopefully some nice sunny weather today.x

Lynda 5ft 2 and eyes of blue what a lovely combination. With 52 WOL you will be absolutely Fab. x

Priscilla … sweet treats are also my downfall. Well not so bad when I keep away from wine. It triggers it. x

Well guys, is there none amongst us taller than 5ft 4. Lol gorgeous things come in little packages I reckon.

Sooo pleased with how this week has paned out. No wine for me for days. It is defiantly that that triggers binges for me.
I was always very slim about 9st till at 39 lost my first husband to cancer.
Such a shock … started drinking in the evening to sleep as I didn’t want to go down the tablet road. Of course I continued then until I met my lovely Andrew and than only drank socially really. We had 26 lovely years together so lucky.

Now of course I have put the weight on after initially losing it … again the wine coming into play.
Those days are hopefully over and on the lovely road to a slim me. Lol

Have a lovely day my friends thank you for being here and glad I found you. x

    Morning all,

I’m a shorty too – I’m 5 foot 2. Maybe it’s not surprising that we who are vertically challenged need to find a lifestyle like this that works long term. Tall people have way more calories to play with day to day – very unfair that my husband’s TDEE allows him enough leeway for all sorts of treats on non fast days!

Lovely day (though a nip in the air) here in Scotland so I’m going to do some tidying in the garden, and if I’m really hard working I may also get round to repainting the front door. Feels like time to start preparing for winter, sad to say…

The roast beef is in the oven yeah its good to be home! Enjoying time with mum, have been busy in garden this morning and am planning on fruit only for rest of day!

    Happy Sunday everyone

    Audrey

    Wow!

    A diminutive of shorties!

I have 5 sisters, 3 are 5’9″. I was the tallest girl in Junior school at 10, never grew a centimetre more.

But they say the best things come in small packages.

Managed the 4 day fast, well three fasts and one semi fast, but well under 2000 for 4 days. Had beef stroganoff yesterday, so fasting today and tomorrow Not as crazy as it sounds, still onky managing under 2,000 steps, so not using much. And I’m not feeling hungry, do its just a matter of not eating out of habit. Scary though how little I need to function. Hard part is drinking enough water.

Keeping away from the scales until Tuesday, fingers crossed.

Hemmy, hugs!!!! Sorry to hear about your first husband, must have been incredibly hard, glad you found Andrew. Reminds us to be grateful for all the happiness and love in our lives, and reminds us to tell them we love them, often!

16 weeks to Christmas, I will be cross with myself and cross with anyone else, if we go down the road of beating ourselves up for enjoying the festive season – imagine being beaten by a mince tart! – so NOW is the time to plan our strategies to get there with a bit a wiggle room!!!!!! Fail to plan, plan to fail!!!

    Hi All

Haven’t you all been busy. All this talk of height sees me with my head in the clouds as 5.41/2 but doctors measured me at 5.5 surely I am not growing now!!

Thanks Karen the loss was way overdue. I know I have always had a problem with losing in the summer, I don’t know why. Winter seems not to be so much of a problem though I can not remember when I have been on any kind of diets two winters running. I shall just have to wait and see.

Hi Hemmy thanks to you as well, wine free weekend, soon you will be tea total. I drink a very rare half a glass of wine or cider normally if I am at a wedding (which I try to avoid) or in France with friends and that will normally be a cider as the have lovely cider there.

Priscilla, good luck with the painting and gardening. Yes as you say the weather seems to be changing. Let’s hope we have an Indian summer.

    Enjoy your Sunday all.

    Ginette

    Hi Good evening friends.x

Haha tea total Ginette..I would love it. I wonder if you find winter easier as there are tasty casseroles etc all with not too many calories.

You have done so brilliantly on this WOL I honestly think you kept my interest in the early days… kept me going with your wonderful range of knowledge here. I would say to the daughter “Ginette said ” Thank you so very much. Keep inspiring us.x

Sooo fast day tomorrow … anyone else? Weigh day Tuesday should be good as I have an extra day.

What are we thinking about our goals for Xmas . Anything special or just carrying on as per normal.

My aim is 12 lbs = 10st 9lbs anything else a bonus. I usually start on Xmas fare quite early. lol so plenty of leeway.

Friends… Have a great day Monday… whether fasting or feasting… we are all in this together Brits. x

Hemmy, FD for us tomorrow. Cooked a huge mixed veg qorn bologenese, as well as making a load of veg stock for the freezer and stewed apples also for freezer. We had new potatoes quorn suausges spinach and i had a bash at making veggie onion gravy…. used cider ,corn flour, home made veg stock, a tiny amount of marmite some pickled onion vinegar, lemon and tiny bit of hp sauce. I thought it was a bit sweet but Stuart liked it. There was some left over to freeze. Got to buy another stack of freezer single portion containers. Its good to know that the next few FD are sorted. I dont have any major goals .. just keep on keeping on track although under 13st by xmas would be nice. I think I’m going to try and convince Stuart to aim for 10st 2lb

    Hi Hemmy

I knew you would like that! 🙂 it is nice to inspire someone. Since I got into 5:2 it has made me very interested in nutrition. When I was working it was all about eating the easiest thing. Not a lot of really unhealthy food but my fair share and if I got stressed I ate.

Since I have been made redundant I have had more time on my hands, hence the constant research. I really don’t want to be in a situation that I put all the weight back on. I can remember that some days I had toast at 10.30 a sandwich at lunch time and often something on toast in the evening. Do you see a problem there? I would often have a bar of chocolate, piece of fruit and yoghurt at some time for snacks. So not eating a great amount but mostly carbs and not many vegetables. Often I didn’t get in until about 9.30 so too tired to cook then, sometimes I just had a bowl of cereals. I have a very rare fizzy drink, less than once a year and only ever if traveling on a really hot day.

So now with my high blood pressure and being overweight I need to get healthy and stay healthy. If I also help some people get there and realise what has caused their weight gain I shall be very happy.

I haven’t told my son that he needed to lose weight, he started 5:2 and after recommending it to me he fell by the wayside. Now he is sort of fasting but he says if I can do it he should be able to. He used to be worried that the weight and blood pressure would cause me to have a stroke. He is really pleased to see me at last doing something about it.

You often see that people unconsciously mimic their parents so it is up to us to keep our children on track, not by nagging but by showing them by example.

It is so nice to have your daughter do it with you as you can help each other along. Also husbands and wives can benefit as well.

    Hi Celtic

You have been really busy, I love quorn bolognese I add a few extra bits in it though. I make a big pot and it lasts a long time.

    Ginette

Ginette, I usually chuck in what ever is the the fridge so this had onions, shallots leek, courgette, mushrooms red pepper celery carrots baby tomatoes, aubergine, home made veg stock, 1 /4 tube tomato puree 500ml passata and 1/4 bottle of merlot. Herbs and pepper. Its made about 10 portions and I can easily bulk it out with borlotti or butterbeans etc. We used to have 4 freezers but only have two here. When I put portioned containers in the freezer I realised that the 5ft freezer in the hall (which is really for Marley the carrion crows food) is full of human food. Need to clear space so shes got her supply of day old chicks and pet mince…. usually buy 200 chicks at a time . For vegetarians we do have odd stuff in the freezer.

    Hi Celtic

Now here is where wine would be good. I love Merlot as well, a nice deep flavour.

I drive everywhere and so don’t drink. When I used to run in an Italian restaurant I did have the odd glass on a Saturday but that was in the late 1980s.

We used to do a really nice bolognese there with added garlic, peppers and mushrooms, I also like a little nutmeg.

Have you tried your psyllium yet, I have read somewhere that it is also good for blood pressure, maybe I will get some. Price seems really good on it. There are some brilliant reviews on Amazon that made me laugh out loud.

    Ginette

    Morning all

Mum did her best to derail me yesterday so I ended up just over 1200 kcals.

Fast day today for me am not able to weigh in here, so am going to weigh in on Thursday morning I am home Wednesday evening.

All this talk of food is making my mouth water hehe.

Glad we all survived the weekend,

ginette you are an inspiration to most if not all of us, I know I wouldn’t like to do this without you. I feel that over the months we have become friends rather than diet buddies!

Keep in touch everyone and let’s all have a good week.

Ginette, tried the husks for the first time this morning. Stu and I barely drink but have ridiculously large amount of booze in the house…..mostly for cooking…..calvados went into the stewed apples and red wine along the lines of merlot tends to get shoved in bologenese and ratatouille because himself isnt overly keen on cooked tomato.
A few years back I discovered single malt but because of medication only drink in tiny quantities watered down. Ive now got a good collection of 14 or 15 single malts but its probably only every couple of months I have any. Things like beer tend to be diluted with tonic water. I used to be a fan of real ale but since I had my bladder rebuilt 20 years ago Ive discovered drinking anything containg hops (even tiny amounts diluted) ends in agony; feels as if somebody has played football with my bladder. One thing we have noticed that things like gin or single malt have more flavour if diluted and loose that horrid spirits burn . I reckon the stash of single malt will last me until I am about 900
Looking forward to a FD today and will let you know how it goes with the husks. Once we go back to cooked porridge of a morning I may add it to that. The husk I bought was very very finely ground so there was no issue drinking a 1/2 teaspoon in a mug of water. Also thinking of adding a small amount to stews and such.

I forgot to say one thing ive found great in the kitchen is having a mandolin. ..speeds up preping veg and means its really easy to achieve loads of different textures. I got some no cut kitchen safety gloves. Since Stu is on blood thinners he is banned from going anywhere near it. Since the stroke he can’t really cope with anything more complex than toaster toast or porridge….both of which he does exceptionally well. Just wish we had a bigger kitchen. I’d love to have the space for a dining table….Iive noticed I eat much slower if sat at a table.
