Good LFD today! 💪🍶
Thanks @onehealthyhigh for the information! Sounds good that there are quite a few who are considering doing a dry January! 😊

Day 18, South Wales, FD
@awilson – Panto = pantomime. It’s a Christmas tradition in the UK, a theatre production, often based on a fairy tale, featuring music, a TV star or two, and endless double-entendres… Check out this link:

@lynned – I guessed “panto” must be “pantomime” but had no clue how involved it really is! That’s such a funny and delightful article! I wonder if panto would ever make it here in the USA. “How would it play in Peoria” – Peoria is only a couple hours away from me. 🙂
Day 19/16:8 CD/Melbourne Australia
Yesterday’s FD flew by. Ended the day on 40 calories having consumed only 2 cups of tea and litres of water. Staying dry between the 3rd and 20th has really paid off I’m under my happy weight of 56kg thats 3 kg under my goal weight. Brilliant start to my holiday. I really don’t have a food problem. Alcohol is my bête noir! Dry January sounds good but I’ll still be on holiday so I’m committing to a very, very controlled Jan rather than total abstinence. I really need to change my drinking habits. Reflecting on my 4 year fasting journey it’s the habits I’ve changed that’ve made all the difference. Eating less, portion control, focussing on a healthy Mediterranean diet, banning snacks and temptations from the house and enjoying (no guilt) my favourite foods in moderation. When nothing is banned nothing is craved.
@snowflake I can really relate. My comfortable, happy weight is the same 56kg. I look, feel and function better at 56kg. Hope you find your happy point soon.
I’m finding the discussion on carbs really interesting. It makes me realise how different we all are. I function better by including resistant starch – good sourdough bread, reheated potatoes and the occasional serve of pasta in my diet – along with other complex carbs obtained from legumes, vegetables and grains. I’ve tried keto and paleo and found both less sustainable, not to mention the dreaded constipation, depression and insomnia!
@at I’m finding the board less active as well. I’m definitely missing old friends and new ones as well. Hopefully we’ll see many in January. December can be so hectic.
@wordman81 and @diverdog, welcome lovely to meet you.I started for the health benefits too. Weight loss was a bonus. I lost 43 lbs in total but settled for a higher weight BMI 22.5.
Love to comment more but I have so much to do. Leaving for an extended holiday tomorrow with family. Take care, you are all very special
2nd post…or 3rd…I lose track…
@awilson @songbirdme @stevetoontaxidriver
Perhaps in the interests of international cultural exchange, us Brits should post a British Christmas panto joke each day for the rest of the week? Here’s my starter:
“Dame (i.e., man dressed up as woman, usually mother of girl dressed as boy): I miss my husband. I used to rub grease all over his back to make him feel better.
Comic: What happened?
Dame: He went downhill really fast.”
@awilson.
https://youtu.be/uEBO_rAa0xI
That link is just 10 mins of a 2.5 hour performance. This year it’s Peter Pan.
It’s good versus evil with song and dance with slapstick comedy. Lots of audience participation. Men dress up as women and women dress up as men. It’s a show for children but there is adult jokes that normally go over the children’s head. Every city town and village have one in the UK.
https://youtu.be/uEBO_rAa0xI
10 min clip of our pantomime.
My panto joke good for our site.
Buttons: Have you put on weight?
Dame: Well, I’ve had a lot on my plate.
Interesting reading. Another vote for intermittent fasting. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-12-19/the-christmas-break-makes-us-fat-for-life/9225170?utm_source=sfmc&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=%3a8935&user_id=bec00519d11dbc5931c05b6e96ccf01bd14c011e7ecc0d88c29dee7cd95d2ac6&WT.tsrc=email&WT.mc_id=Email%7c%7c8935&utm_content=ABCNewsmail_topstories_articlelink

Day 19 NFD Brisbane, Australia
Day 18 FD
Day 17 NFD
Day 16 NFD
HAHA, Love the Panto jokes, keep them coming.
Successful FD yesterday, with a new low this morning. Still .6 kg off my pre Christmas goal but I know I will be close.
Christmas baking yesterday and today, and I managed not to sample the goods yesterday 😊. Today may be a different story!
I am sitting outside at the moment enjoying catching up with everyone’s posts while I eat my breakfast. Summer is heating up here so I need to get my baking done early to beat the heat as much as possible.
Stay strong everyone…you’ve got this.
Day 18 – Colorado – FD
@toddybear – LOL, yes I totally agree. The days in December feel like they’re only 12 hours long. Nice thing is the extra friendliness & hugging & good cheer really make up for the lost hours!
@markie99 – thank you for the pointers on meditation. I’ll be incorporating those ideas in my evening winding down for sleep.
I’m also borrowing your idea of setting goals for a day. Remember my ridiculous giant paragraph of NO’s? They were too global, all-encompassing & never-ending. I like how you say, “Today I’ll do yoga & ride my bike…” Do-able. Maybe each night as I relax before bed, I can simply decide, “Tomorrow I’ll lift weights before work & skip breakfast.” Not scary at all.
Today’s FD is going beautifully. Started off by walking at incline on treadmill for a full hour. Yes! Got all caught up on my forum reading!
For breakfast I had plain black coffee. Lunch was homemade broth, cucumber slices & a few bites of deli turkey.
My work days are coming up. I’ll probably catch up with you lovely people on Friday (or whenever I require an inspirational boost and can squeeze a few spare minutes!)
Love you guys, for reals!!
Found this article about how to rid ourselves of bad habits.
If you decide what bad habits you would like to abolish, instead of just removing them & leaving a void in your routine or time of day, have a good filler habit already in mind. Use that new good habit to fill the void, keep filling that gap with your new routine until it gets “baked in.”
This is a great idea I could certainly put to use. Hope someone else finds it helpful too!
http://100down.org/replace-your-bad-habits-with-good-habits/
Like the author says,
“Fitness doesn’t begin when you’re skinny, it begins when you’re at your worst and goes from there. Make a commitment right now to replace one bad habit with one good habit, stick to it, and ask yourself in 10 days if you aren’t glad you did it!”
Day 19 – Melbourne Aus – FD (let’s try again)
Woke up to my eldest who’d spewed in his bed. What fun. So, that put my off my food this morning haha! I’m spending the day tending to his every need (I can’t say no to such a sad face) and meal prepping for the holidays. Big batches of spag bol sauce, zucchini slice and laksa.
I’ve got three 200cal meals planned for the day:
Porridge with poached pear
Quinoa and vegetable soup
Avocado and vegemite on sourdough
Besides the good old miso with trimmings, what are some other low cal meals I could add to my FD list (besides seafood)?
@onahealthyhigh That’s my goal weight! Originally I was aiming to get there by Christmas, and I almost was around June…then term 3 happened…and the kilos piled back on. Can’t wait to be back at that weight again. I felt so good and comfortable in myself!
Day 18 – Massachusetts – NFD
I am losing it! Losing my momentum and becoming bogged down by all the holiday foods. I’m scared to look at the scale. My roommates and I have been watching the Great British Baking Show Masterclass. Great show, love it, but now they want to make all the delicious things… and I’m having a hard time saying no…

Day 19 – Japan – NFD! yay! 81.4kg
My fast day was a little edgy, but I made through. I haven’t been spending much time here, new role in the company is keeping me too busy.

Day 17 NFD
Day 18 FD Oregon USA
Hello all… Been a busy couple of days as I traveled and spent great time with old friends.
Definitely needed my FD today which will come in right under 500.
Due to a train derailment that caused major interstate shut down today, took extra long time to drive home. But was pleasantly accompanied by my college-aged son so had no hunger issues at all.
Very sad at the tragic event that took three lives. 💙
Will catch up on all of your wonderful posts tomorrow as am a bit tired from the drive.
Loving all the panto jokes!!
You Brits are a marvelous crowd and would love a night at the pub with all of you!!
Not weighing myself until Friday where I hope to have maintained for the week which would be a significant win given the festivities.
On Saturday night was introduced to Brown Sugar Bourbon…. Oh my!!! Yum.
Late add to the pocket list.

@steve-toon-taxi-driver — you’ve started a phenomenon with panto! I love everyone’s jokes and YouTube clips! Some of it reminds me of Monty Python, especially “Spamalot.” I don’t think Americans could do it quite as well as you Brits though. In other ways it reminds me of collegiate variety shows. Oh so fun!
Day 18 – Norway, FD
Day 19 – Norway, CD
Well, yesterday was an FD. Did ok, stayed below my 500kcals, but struggled with headaches from around noon and until bedtime 🙁
After a weekend with too much candy, i should just be happy my weight didnt go up, but stayed put. Its funny how i can say i ate “too much” candy over the weekend, before my 5:2-journey, yesterdays “snack-intake” would have been “normal or moderate”….now i felt like i took it a bit far over the weekend. Well, we are still in the redoing of the kitchen and livingroom, doing roof to floor to walls…so my OH bought candy/snacks to stay on the counter as we worked the entire weekend, morning til night. (i see im making excuses 🙂 ) Im doing a CD/NFD today, and my second FD tomorrow…out for indian food tomorrow (again!) It’s quite amazing how i have lost 10kg…with all the eating out 🙂
Day 19, India, FD
Somewhere along the way I fell off the wagon, I used to follow 4:3,(Also trying to do low carb) and I have lost and maintained about 10 kgs for the last 6 months. I need to lose another 5.
I will be joining the challenge from today, better late than never. The accountability helps. I will again be doing 4:3 as I get results with that.
What I find really annoying is that I always get stuck around 70kgs and when I am not careful with what i eat, I easily slip back to 72-73 kgs. My ultimate goal is to reach 65kgs and maintain it. But at this stage I have been stuck at 71-73 kgs for almost 2 months now. Any tips on getting off this plateau would be great.
Have a great day everyone.
Day 19 – UK – NFD
Very happy to report FD yesterday went well. @at thank you for adding me to the list – it seems to always be quite a full pocket on a Monday!
I’m clearing space in the freezer at the moment so some meals have been very strange and quite unexpected…. I’m not sure it’s helpful when my OH suggests labels on packages could be a good idea – but that was when I abandoned making a chilli with cooked stuffing instead of what I had thought looked like beef mince!!!!
We are visiting family today across the other side of the country (distance would not be a challenge for our North American friends) – it’s not an inspiring journey at the best of times but the week before Christmas always throws in some extra challenges.
@happymargo – thanks for the link and the reminder that the 12 hour days are compensated with generally good cheer and hugs!
Panto joke…. Why was Cinderella so bad at football? Because she had a pumpkin as a coach!
Day 19 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD
2nd B2B2B2B
Good FD, less than 500, nice drop of 1.5 pounds overnight. Reading the posts last night I was inspired to switch my NFD today to another FD and thus head into 4 days fasting straight.
It IS the week before Christmas after all, no parties planned, DH works nights so I can safely fast…….lets do this!
Loving the panto jokes guys, (spellcheck changed Panto to pants….lucky I noticed 😆)
I have noticed that last months hostess @jessyoursize, has also been absent. Hope everything ok with our absent friends.
@at, I am away in Peru for most of the month of January so can’t offer my hosting services, but I will put my offer in for February??
Can I start a pocket list for today? I’m struggling to fit in FD at the moment

What did the wife say to the woodcutter?
Not many chopping days left till Christmas,
I was watching an article on the news last night. There was an 84 year old sprinter who has broken loads of records. Her motto is
A quitter never wins and a winner never quits. So that’s my thought for today.
STRONGER TOGETHER!
Day 19 UK NFD
I felt rotten yesterday after all the sugar I had the day before. I had a headache and was really down and just couldn’t get my head in the right place to do the admin that I have to do before next year. I went round and round in circles trying to find the right files and then get them to open in the right format. Exceedingly frustrating. This is the trouble with not doing admin very often, you have to relearn how to do it every time with new versions of software etc. I needed my head in a better place to do it. Leaving it until the last minute really isn’t the best strategy.
For the meantime I am going to stop trying to do fast days and just stick to my eating window to keep things even and make it less likely that I overcompensate on NFDs. I don’t want to want the wrong foods as they mess with my head. I am less concerned about my weight than about how I feel. My weight is still under goal despite too much sugar.
Day 19, Belfast, NFD
Yesterday’s FD went well. It was a bit quieter in work so had to keep myself busy. Did some yoga yesterday evening – helped with the neck and shoulders.
@at – thanks so much for the yoga link. I’ll give those stretches a go later. Ta!
Agree with the other posts, we need to look after ourselves during this busy season. So I’m going to give myself a hug and meet a friend I haven’t seen in ages for an after work drink.
Good luck everyone today!
Day 19, Newcastle UK, FD
Lol – after reading that article about Christmas posted by @onahealthyhigh, I guess that quote I posted the other day is completely wrong. It is all about what you eat between Christmas and New Year! So my strategy of not having any of the Christmas sabotage food in the house is sound.
Well, another little whoosh and my goal for December is back on track. As we are going to friends for a grand (7 courses or thereabouts) meal on New Year’s Eve, I will be posting my final weight on the morning of the 31st. Anyway, enough of this jumping ahead. Still got Christmas to negotiate – however good I currently intend to be.
@anna6 – am I right that those delicious Sicilian pizzas you’ve eaten are all about lots of lovely topping on the thinnest of bases possible. That’s what I’m imagining anyway. Not only is my YouTube guru Dr. Berg great for his videos on all things health and weight related – I have now found his series of videos on healthy options to things such as: waffles, pancakes, tortilla wraps, muffins and pizza bases. I’m sure there’s more. @flourbaby – all is not lost!!!
Because of my red wine blip on the weekend before last, I have held off telling you about my other discovery on YouTube. Subliminal hypnosis – which I have been playing openly in the house. I know it’s early days but both OH and I seem to be responding extremely positively. Rather than ramble on, I’ll just give you the link for anyone interested – maybe those looking to do Dry January. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nu8vhg2t3A&t=34s
@saffy420 & @missybear – fingers crossed your colds will be gone in time for Christmas.
@debster251 – how lovely to get those compliments at your old School’s carol service. No doubt you’ll be visiting Rosa over Christmas if she doesn’t actually move in for the big day.
Best wishes for a lovely holiday @onahealthyhigh.
Great sustainable strategies @happymargo.
@busymummam – one of the books I ordered is for meals on FDs. I’ll post them as I try them out. Hope your son is improving.
@leggit – maybe time to put your handle to use and leggit from your potentially sabotaging friends. BTW – if this is not widely known – leggit is a Geordie term for making a run for it.
I can hear your relief @dykask. Well done.
Great progress @maayyaa – hope you’re headaches have gone.

Day 19, Gozo Malta, fd
I don’t understand the scales I’ve been eating and eating without a fd for thirteen days and after registering an increase of 1.5 kilos on Sunday I’m down by 0.7 kilos this morning. Way to go.
Today is a fd for me. I’m eating baked fish and vegetables for lunch but I had three coffees with semi skimmed milk and a tiny kinder chocolate at 30 calories which I opened for my granddaughter but she didn’t want but I ate. Need to be mindful and I’m enjoying this fd after all the feasting.
I hope everybody is enjoying the pre Christmas spirit. I still need to buy two more presents and to wrap all the gifts up.
Have a great day/evening everyone, onwards and downwards.
Day 19 Wales NFD
Owing to a sore throat yesterday’s FD was my first ever liquid FD. Today I’ve lost my sense of taste so unusually for me I don’t feel like eating!! Just taking it easy today, need to be recovered for my dad’s birthday celebration on Saturday. Thanks for your best wishes for me to get well.
Day 19 – Colorado – FD
Back to work today. Looking forward to the busy-ness of it. Keeps me active (always hit my step count on work days!) and out of the kitchen! I’ve packed some deli turkey & cucumber slices if needed.
Later it’s strength training and HIIT sprints.
Just need to dodge the holiday treats festooned across the break room at work.
“Dodge, dip, duck, dive and… dodge. Said dodge twice because it’s that important. It is after all called Dodge Ball.”
Have a great day, Fellow Fasters!
Day 19, London, UK, NFD
@onahealthyhigh, I love a good avocado on sourdough brunch every now and then, but it’s those refined carbs like cake, biscuits, crackers & commercial bread that are my downfall. I’ve swapped white rice & pasta for their less refined brown varieties, and actually I can take them or leave them, a malted milk biscuit on the other hand can NEVER, EVER, cross my threshold again!!!! I think I might try adding more resistant starch to my diet to see if that brings satiety & conquers the binge dragon.
This panto joke had me chuckling…………………………..
Comic: Sorry I’m late. I’ve been to the optician’s. He’s just told me I’m colour blind.
Buttons: Colour blind?
Comic: Yes, it came as a real bolt out of the orange.
Also, not really a panto joke but this happened when Cilla Black was in panto in Liverpool in the ‘80s…………..
When she asked the audience how she should kill the baddie in Aladdin, the young lad in the audience shouted: “Sing to him, Cilla, sing to him!!!!”.
I’m up for ‘Fast Diet Forum Members’ pub crawl @mjrbcd44, but better make it a NFD otherwise we’ll be ordering 100 sparkling waters with a slice of lemon!!!!
@anna6, I think you’ve had a whoosh, I find they come after a ‘normal’ period of eating or after 3L water a day. No guilt about your hols then!!!!!
Stay strong everyone, Onward & Downward!!!!!!!!
Day 19 USA (Illinois) NFD
Very good day all around yesterday. FD was just under 500 calories. Annual physical also very good reports on my blood numbers. YEAH! I complimented my doctor on his good work on me, and he said he wished he could take credit. But I reminded him of my 5:2 WOL (now 6:1 on maintenance) and he said he remembered, and it is working. He’s also lost I bet 25 pounds himself. He said they had a competition among the staff, and his competitive nature took over. I think he won (owing to the size of nurse who checked me in – I wanted to tell her about 5:2).
@flourbaby – put me in on that pub crawl. What a wild time we would have! This is such a marvelous group.
@mjrbcd44 – wondered if anyone here might be effected by the train derailment and subsequent road closures. I feel for all of you in the Pacific northwest. So we will just have to laugh here with our lively group and all the terrific panto jokes.
How did I make it to nearly 70 years old not knowing about that British realm of theater?! Of course to me, “pantomime” means Marcel Marceau as a mime in the 1950’s. Hardly the fun times of your PANTO!
Onward and downward!
@
Day 19 – Cumbria UK – NFD
Had a really successful FD yesterday, ending up being a LFD totalling 175cals as I had a glass of homemade milk kefir before bed – Have not broken my fast as yet today……..will wait and see how I feel.
Did a lovely 5mile walk this morning but the weather was not the best, fog and a light drizzle but the company was good and enjoyed a cup of coffee and a chat afterwards.
Going to a “Thank You Mulled Wine and Mince Pie” later this afternoon for all the local volunteers at our parish centre so may wait until then to break my fast…….
Trying a new recipe tonight – OH request – sounds yummy – check out the link – what do you think?

@diverdog – wishing you a very happy birthday for tomorrow 🍷🥘 Enjoy your meal and of course the wine!!!
@onahealthyhigh – Alcohol is the bête noir for a lot of us 😈 but oh so enjoyable!!!!!! We just need to learn to enjoy it in moderation 😇 I also cannot commit to a Dry January as I’m heading to Australia for my niece’s wedding and will be catching up with friends and family so there is no way that 🥂🍷will not be involved 😉 Also thank you for the link x
@happymargo – I rather like the ideas in the article you posted – will definitely try this is the new year
@leggit – as others have said December is a tough month – I force myself to fast on the days that I have no social commitments – if I have a busy week socially then I fast for the majority of the day saving all my calories for the lunch or dinner or whatever I’m going to – hope these ideas are helpful!
@mjrbcd44 – it was very sad to read about the train derailment – so many affected x
@rahul1905 – welcome back to the fold – thought you had gone AWOL since mid November – Remember that Together We Are Stronger!
@toddybear – You are welcomed – we look out for each other 🤗
@biddiev – I totally understand – so hard to pass on 🥂 anytime…….😉
@daffodil2010 – Thank you for offering to host February and yes you are right – we haven’t heard from @jessyoursize since the end of November – hope all is good??
@fatrabbit – hope you get yourself in a better place soon – absolutely right in trying to ensure that your headspace is sorted out and the rest will follow…….
@Strawberriesandcream – I’ll check out your link on Subliminal hypnosis x
@missybear – take care, hope you recover enough to help your Dad celebrate on Saturday!
Loved reading the posts and good to hear that so many are holding firm in this difficult month of December with so many temptations around……..Why is it so much easier to be 😈 than 😇
“Eat responsibly. You don’t have to be a saint with your food, but you can’t eat like every day is thanksgiving either” – Brad Pilon
Day 19 – Stratford-Upon-Avon – UK – NFD
Sorry peeps but I’m finding it difficult to post every day! I am however hanging on in there and so far I have managed all my planned FDs – I have to admit though I am feeling my resolve weaken now as we get nearer the Big Day so I am trying really hard to make the clear days count!!!
Both my daughters are now home from uni and they have brought noise and a little mayhem but it is lovely to have them home. My 5:2 efforts have been noticed by my observant eldest daughter and I was rewarded by a ‘you look skinny Mama’, my youngest daughter however wouldn’t notice if I ran through the house naked (!) 😉
Hang on in there everyone it will all be over before we know it! I intend to practice a little mindfulness but most of all ENJOY! and remember that reset button is always there…….
Busy,busy…..
Day 19 Las Vegas NV USA B2B WFD
You Brits are too funny! Love the panto. I’ve traveled quite a bit but I’ve never been to GB and I’m planning a three week trip there in the early fall of 18. Of course I’m want to do the tourist must sees but I’d really like to get off the beaten path and see the countryside too. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I’m happy to see that most of you are doing well. This certainly is a challenging time of year. I’ll be dining out for 5 of the next 6 days. I’m just going to eat and drink in moderation.
I’m entering uncharted territory with day 2 of my B2B water fast. So far no issues, I’m not hungry and I have plenty of energy. I’m taking a rest day from the gym.
I measured my BF% last night and it was the lowest I’ve seen as an adult
Day 19 California NFD
My lowest weight so far on the 5:2 this morning: 59.2 kg or 130.5 lbs. It’s only 100 grams less than where I started the month, but a record nonetheless. Yesterday was a FD, so need to be careful today, a NFD. It gives me an incentive not to go crazy and screw it up over the holidays.
@onahealthyhigh – 3 kg below your goal weight, a week before Christmas and all it’s temptations! How cool is that? Many congratulations to you. You are truly and inspiration. I agree with you on the low carb plans. Add bad breath to the list of side effects.
I want to be at 59 kg by Christmas, not an easy task since Saturday through Monday are all celebration days that are centered around eating. And getting together with family of course, but family likes to eat!
Getting to 59 kg or 130 lbs (my old goal weight) would be a nice Christmas present to myself. What are you going to give yourself this Christmas?

@daffodil2010 – yes a couple extra FDs are a good idea as we head into Christmas
@songbirdme – yes the I5 train derailment yesterday was pretty terrible – several deaths and about 100 to hospital. It was the maiden voyage of that train. It affected that main corridor of traffic for hours. My son & I plan to travel through there this Saturday on our way up to Canada. Hopefully it’ll be cleared up.
@califdreamer – congratulations on reaching your lowest weight & may you reach your goal for your own Christmas gift. Your question about what we’ll be giving ourselves, gives me pause to reflect.
@yo-yo Fletch – yes, “a little mindfulness but most of all enjoy”. Enjoy your daughters.
Yes, together we are stronger!
Day 19 McMinnville Oregon USA – NFD

@lynned, Steve toon taxi driver & @emma Taylor – LOL thank you!!
@happymargo – Thank you for the link to the article about changing bad habits. It makes all kinds of since to me, “void of misery” indeed.
@busymummam – Sorry to hear your little one is sick. I had to google spag bol sauce because I’ve not heard of it before, google came back with Bolognese sauce! I’m learning so much from my international friends and I love it!! One thing I often do on a fast day is have scrambled eggs. I sauté a few onions with my eggs and that’s about it.
@leggit – Hang in there, try to fit a FD in when you can!!
@onahealthyhigh – shakshuka another name I had to google! 😯
Thank you for the link, it looks interesting.
@mjrbcd44 – The train derailment in Tacoma is tragic.
