  • Happy Friday everyone

Weighed in this morning – first week and down just under 2 kilos – woop woop. Got through the 2 500 calories days ok, yesterday was a struggle as a bit hungry after excercising. Bring on next week!!

    Have a great weekend everyone.

Wow thanks for the welcome guys…and for the encouraging, supportive vibe of this group. Soo good!! Have a great day everyone and I hope I get to know you all better soon.
Was thinking re your positive changes post with 5:2. Really can’t remember all that has been said but mine would be: Feeling in control around food and not really looking for it most of the time. Huge change.
: Food such as chips, cake, chocolate bars have lost their “calling power”!(not the good, dark stuff – still eat that occasionally)
: definitely spending less on food
: Not afraid of hunger any more
: Feeling very positive generally but especially re food and health
: enjoying the food I eat so much more
    That’s it for now. suejen

    Hi Again

Could someone please advise what the app is I should get?

    πŸ™‚

Hi DoitinParadise, check back to the last page, Catherine explains about MFP, best app, we all use it….CG xx

    Afternoon AD’s.
Our thread is so full of wonderful discussions and research. THANK YOU Flemmy
for all your advice. I am on the lookout for a pair of thongs for you…. BLING of course!
A BIG WARM WELCOME TO ALL NEW MEMBERS!!!
We are seeing some great results being posted today. Congratulations to you all. Remember what the scales are not showing is happening on the inside of your body, which is just as important.
I am doing a B2B , will post my weight tomorrow.
My positive changes are: Thyroid has decreased in size over 4mths of 5:2
Blood results are now medium range of normal. All good.
Believe in YOUR AUSSIE DETERMINATION and yourself….. Great things will happen.
So very proud of you all………GO GAL
ANDREW HOPE YOU ARE OK……PLEASE POST SOON !!!

“Thyroid has decreased in size over 4mths of 5:2
Blood results are now medium range of normal. ”

Wow! That’s great go gal πŸ™‚

I am weighing tomorrow too, after a 4:3 week.

I am trying hard to be as low-carb as possible, but gave in had a peach and skim cappucino just now ( after a salad lunch and walk). Oh well win the war and lose the battle I guess, but much less grumpy now, so it makes me a halfway decent colleague πŸ™‚

Suejen, your changes are wonderful πŸ™‚
I am making a list of side bennies that we have all experienced and keeping it to encourage me on dark days…

Lotus, nothing at all wrong with that lunch, it’s fine, a skinny cappuccino is filling, and healthy, just add the cals to you MFP, it’s not a lot at all, keep going your doing so well, you find your conscious won’t let you go too over board…just enjoy..CG xx

Thanks CG. Still within the 300 cals so have another 200 left over for dinner if I want.

    Thank you for that CG

Countrygal I’m so pleased no nasties were found. I too would have been cross if the anaesthetist had nicked my vocal cords. Yes I think it was you who recommended the Weight Watchers scale. Or it could have been Gypsy. Anyhow I’m happy with them. Especially if they keep telling me I’m losing weight!
FlemishCurves. I have to congratulate you on your perfect English. You people from Europe and Scandanavia all speak such good English. I was born in South Africa and had to learn Afrikaans. It’s derived from Dutch but modified to a simpler language over about 300 years. It also have a bit of French to add to the mix. I’m told it is similar to Flemish.
OK I’ve had a busy day. I’m about to sit down to a nice cold glass of Savignon Blanc. I do love non fast days!
CG I hope you have a better night.

OOOOh….I wish it was sav blanc time here!! Have a bit to go yet….am making home made hamburgers for dinner, with wedges and fresh corn. Bit of a carb fest Friday, but all accounted for…..and I haven’t had any bread since last Saturday….lovely wholemeal loaf of course πŸ™‚

Best benefit of 5:2 every time for me has to be decreased appetite and feeling full on less food……I am a bit of a Fast day junkie once I get that light hollow feeling in my tum, so different from hunger….then I usually get heaps of energy too.

Dogsabie, bleeden age with me and I think it was only yesterday, NO we talked kitchen scales didn’t we? My bathroom scales are newish too and like I’ve said do everything but vac the house, a little bit too much info for me I think, especially when they told me I was obese!
Lotus plenty of cals for soup or a salad, never be too hard on yourself, even if you go over by 100cals, it will not make much difference…some days we are well under through choices so it balances out by weeks end,
Definately happy hour, nice cold Jack and zero happening here, loin lamb chops for dinner with coleslaw. Just made a big container of coleslaw to do me for the next few days, the heat is on in Vic so perfect fare. Bought some corn cobs today too Foxy so might fit in one too for dinner….butter??? Oh yeah!
Foxy remember when you start sipping we would have finished, so enjoy!
The energy you talk about was my problem with sleeping or lack of. I was so hyped, it was maddening.
By the way DoinitinParadise, might make you DP I think, log your cals everyday not just fast days, doesn’t take long, either work it out for the whole day (as I try to do) like a recipe, or as you go, I now have the odd day when I don’t count (out of fear maybe) but to be really honest with yourself, and staying within your TDEE, it helps, okay, time for a sip… πŸ™‚ CG xxx

HI ALL and WELCOME all new members to AUSSIE DETERMINATION.

    Great positive vibes here today!

So many positive losses as well!

I have to agree about ALL the benefits of 5:2 so far with Lotus and others…my biggest achievement on 5:2 is no heartburn/reflux when sleeping(from over eating)

Tara I have an underactive thyroid as well. I have managed to lose since September 2014 – 5 months -8kg and 21 cm all over. I had a major blowout over Christmas where I gained 2kg.It took a while to kickstart the system but I have since lost the extra plus some.I am now in BMI healthy range for height. So 5:2 is doable.I am still fasting Mon and Thurs so that a have a 2kg leeway that’s stable….then its maintenance.

900gram lost this week. I changed my food choices around .Instead of stirfry veg and tofu(I am vegetarian)I had mixed fruit salad(love fresh pineapple) and mushroom strog and zucchini pasta.Whoever suggested mushroom stroganoff needs an award!

    LOVIN THIS WAY OF LIFE:)

    Hi all!

Down to 61.7kg finally broke my plateau of 2 weeks lmao oh the trials and tribulations I’ve been through πŸ˜‰

Thank you, dogsabie, that means a lot. But I must add that I study to be a translator dutch/English/Spanish so it’s sort of expected from me to know how to string a sentence together in English πŸ™‚ Also, we get all of our English telly in English with dutch subtitles so you start understanding English at a very young age, naturally. It’s one of the perks of living in a larger culture’s periphery.

I love Afrikaans, it’s such a wonderfully creative language to a Dutch native. Their word for ‘thong’ (not the Aussie kind) translates into a ‘barely-pants’ to us. Actually Flemish is what we call the regional variation of Dutch spoken in Flanders (the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium). But considering half of the country speaks dutch/Flemish and the other half French (with a small area of native Germans in the bulge), it’s a common myth that French and Flemish are very close. We use a lot of French words in every day life, though. I hope I’m not boring anyone with this, I have a passion for languages; my parents were translators too so I was spoon-fed linguistics as a child. You can compare Flemish to how Aussie English is different from Oxbridge, for instance.

Wow, vegiemumma, you’ve really crushed that plateau and told it who’s boss, well done! Yes, the mushroom stroganoff is a dream. I love adding cream to a FD meal.

Haha GG, I will wear them with pride. I’ll be the talk of the town, in my honorary Aussie thongs. And all the blinger, all the better πŸ˜‰ (P.S. I’m aware that wasn’t proper English). Good news on your thyroid, you must be chuffed. My mother’s thyroid must be long gone, with the replacement pills she’s been taking for about 20 years now πŸ™‚

Lotus, I can’t eat fruit on FDs, because it makes me crave more fruit but many here can and do. With success. I say, try it out, see if it makes you hungrier or fills you up. If you need a bit of sweet to feel happy during the day, fruit is the best way to go. when I just started, I snacked on cherry tomatoes during the day, if I needed a bit of sweetness and juice. They eat like grapes but much less kcal. I now snack on them on non-FDs. One cherry tomato is about 2 or 3 kcal and you’ll be satisfied with maybe 5. I always end my non-FD lunches with some cherry tomatoes, they really top off a meal for me.

FC, thongs are barely pants to us in NZ too (scanty ladies’ wear). What we wear on our feet are jandals. Language brings us together, but is certainly a divider, too. It must be wonderful to be surrounded by all the European languages, and to be immersed in them from your earliest years. If English is the first language, where to go from there – Japanese, Mandarin, French – who knows what is going to be useful in one’s life?

Haha Barata I meant the Afrikaans word for thong is ‘amperbroekie’ which in Dutch literally means barely-pants (amper=barely broekie=little pants). I just added the ‘Aussie kind’ reference because we’ve been talking about thongs (whiihc will be my part of uniform as a proud honorary Aussie) and I didn’t want people to think I was still talking about flip flops.

It’s pretty great to be living so close to so many cultures. If I drive 30 minutes North, I’ll be in the Netherlands, 1 hour East: Germany. 30 minutes South: French-speaking part of Belgium, 1 hour further south: France. I’m less than 2 hours away from London by Eurostar. I should really take more time to appreciate that, it’s pretty special. Thanks for reminding me. My brother drove to the Netherlands on Sunday because his best friend felt like Burger King (and we don’t have that here).

I actually went to Cologne to watch the WC football final between Germany and Argentina this Summer. It was amazing being in the country of the world champions when it actually happened and celebrate with them. And all I had to do was get in the car for 2 hours.

To be honest, we start learning French in school at 10, English at 13 and German or Spanish at 15. But in Belgium you can’t get a good job without knowing at least the 2 major country languages and English. So it’s natural to us. Our country would be (even more of) a dysfunctional mess if we didn’t learn how to communicate with each other (and our neighbours). Another benefit of being in such a small (and divided) country.

Thanks Flemish!:)Friends who I haven’t seen since August last year just commented on “how thin I look?” what an extra bonus to add to the list Lotus.
    I LOVE the new me:)

FC down to 61.7 wooohooo, congratulations, your still our champ. Did you hit mant plateaus on your journey and if so did you alter anything, or just stick with your 5:2 and stay within your TDEE. I know you have told us in the past but for the sake of our new members would you mind going through it again please. You are such an inspiration…so glad you are part of our team too, Stay warm.:) CG xxx

FC, with invisible lines as borders where do languages change as per country? Hard, being an Australian, to imagine as we can drive thousands of miles and still be speaking/acting the same, all that changes here is weather, customs all the same, some have a slight drawl but not overly noticeable?…CG xx

Thanks, CG. I’m happy to tell the story of the reappearing kg for our newbies. Until last year February, I wasn’t paying attention to my kcal on non-FDs at all but I kept losing weight so it didn’t really matter. Then in February I gained about 5kg back in a few weeks and didn’t know what was going on. Realised losing weight made me need less food on average so eventually calculated my TDEE and got back on track. I weighed 71.5 last February, then gained 5kg back, and it took me until June to get back to my lowest weight. Fast forward 6 months and I’m about 10kg lighter. What newbies can learn from this story: we all make mistakes, we all fluctuate. It’s depressing to plateau (or even gain back) but don’t beat yourself up, stick with the WOL and you’ll beat that plateau and in the long run, it’ll be a small bump in your overall downward trend. I mean, I was panicking then but now, it doesn’t matter at all because I stuck with it and lost and extra 10kg since. don’t get discouraged, we all go through the ups and downs. Eventually we’ll all get there. Together.

Most countries have actual official languages set, because most European countries have areas with a history of different languages that the governments of the past have tried to obliterate in name of patriotism. Some more successfully than others. France has done a pretty good job oppressing languages like Breton, Occitan,… which are pretty much non-existing today. In Spain (and Belgium), it didn’t quite work and those people have regained status of official languages. But because we all have set official languages, children go to school in those languages so the natural language changes quite drastically from one border to another. In Belgium, we have an official border between Dutch and French. Naturally, it’s when the landscape changes from flat and wide to hilly and woodsy, the language changes from Dutch to French. There are overlapping dialects in places. We have a tri-border area (between Belgium, Holland and Germany) and naturally, the people’s dialect is a mix between Dutch and German. But depending on which side of the tripoint they live, they will speak standard Dutch or standard German in school/at work…

It’s quite funny how suddenly all the languages change when you cross a border in Europe. All the cities on the road signs change language. If you’re in Brussels and want to go to Bruges, you have to follow road sign ‘Bruges’. when you cross the linguistic border, the road signs will then be ‘Brugge’, not Bruges because that’s what we call it in Dutch. Tourists from outside the continent really struggle with European road signs, those poor things.

Deary me, I can never stop talking when I start talking about languages.

FC, thank you so much for the history lesson, you know it didn’t interest me at school, Europe is too far away to concern one self with, but as the world gets smaller either with travel or telly, my interest is at a peek. I wonder what you were told at school about us if anything. Thank you also for filling in our new members, we keep telling them to keep going, it will happen, the plateau will be broken, but you are proof…have a lovely day FC…CG xx

Flemishcurves. Kan jy verstaan wat ek hierso skryf? My Afrikaans is nie te goed nie want ek het now vir amper 35 jaare in Australia gewoon. If you don’t use it you loose it.
OK Aussies Im just asking FlemishCurves if she can understand what I’ve written. Recently a doctor friend of mine told me that the best way to avoid Alzheimer’s is to learn a new lauguage. Last year we holidayed in Italy and France. I downloaded a learn to speak French app. I was doing fine on my iPad but once I got there found I was useless. One needs to act actually converse.
RIGHT back to 5:2. I’ve had a good day and so enjoy all your posts.
Havva good night all. And tot siens FS.

Hi FC, can’t tell you how much your last post cheered me up this morning! I got up very grumpy and feeling like quitting because I seemed to be getting nowhere and couldn’t work out why, but your explanation about changing TDEE makes perfect sense – so now I feel I can get back on track. Thank you so much!!
The second part of your post was very interesting, as I live in Ireland but have a holiday home in Normandy and myself and hubby try to spend several weeks there each year. I am trying to learn to speak French and love the way of life over there. Last summer, we drove to the military cemetery just over the border in Belgium, to coincide with the commemoration of the 100 year anniversary of WW1 – we have a connection to the first recipient of the Victoria cross of WW1 and wanted to see his burial place – long story! We noticed some changes in language and signage on our travels and found it very interesting.
Thanks again for your inspirational story of the rollercoaster ride of your weight loss and your ultimate success. It has given me the courage to keep going. Merci beaucoup! Bon courage!

To be honest, CG, we don’t get much history on Australia. Sad really, but it’s hard to cover everything. American history is only a few weeks as well. Getting through thousands of years of European history in 6 years is quite an up-taking as it is πŸ™‚

dogsabie, jouw Afrikaans versta ik best goed, ik denk dat jouw Afrikaans nog in goede conditie is. Ik denk dat jij nog gemakkelijk in Zuid-Afrika zou kunnen wonen. Not sure you will understand my Dutch, though πŸ˜‰ You can always speak French with me, I’m now tutoring a boy who just started this year so I’m well versed in helping out with conjugation.

Fittoretire, I’ve felt that way many times last year. I have the luck that I have a real life Fasting Buddy so I can’t give up, if only for her sake. That’s why this board is so important, for all the people who are braving this journey alone. You zoom in so much on the numbers and if they don’t cooperate it’s easy to lose faith or motivation. When I started, I was gaining and gaining and didn’t know how to change my routine. 5:2 gave me the tools to change my relationship with food for the better. I also got through thinking that if I didn’t do this, I’d just gain without ever losing. Staying the same is better than gaining, if anything. It’s hard sometimes but it’s worth it. Who knows what I would weigh now if I hadn’t found 5:2. It definitely wouldn’t be 61.7kg and most likely not 85.5kg either.
Yes, Ypres (Ieper) is one of the most southern parts of the Dutch-)speaking area in Belgium. Actually, historically the Dutch-speaking area went completely into the northern part of France as well. Lille and its surroundings used to be completely Dutch-speaking before Napoleon put an end to that. That’s why it’s called French Flanders over there. There’s an older generation that still speaks a dialect of Dutch there but they’re rapidly dying off (to put it crudely). Hope you enjoyed your trip, the trenches are such a strange place to visit. French is a beautiful language, I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it soon. You already sound fluent πŸ™‚

Waking up (too early!) to a cool summer morning here. No newspaper again! Yesterday was our national day (Waitangi Day), commemorating 175 years since the signing of the treaty between the British and Maori peoples. It has long been a time of dissent, for protest by the disaffected, but seems to be evolving into a more peaceful celebration finally.

Good morning team, R and R day today for most of us. Rest up and Relax, and a lot more Freedom. Keep up the healthy choices, when possible but also enjoy the benefits of 5:2 and have a wine, a piece of pizza for dinner those few little treats you deny yourself through the week. The weather is really getting hot again so keep the fluids up. Have you worked out your TDEE at the top of the page in the How section, so you know what cals to have on non fast days. You’ll find your treats will fit into your TDEE with careful planning, oh so easy, especially if your using MFP. Not counting, then good on you….that’s confidence. To those of you fasting today, good luck YOU CAN DO IT our AUSSIE DETERMINATION is with you. Remember 5:2 is very forgiving so if you do have a slight blow out, your fast day will usually get you back on track, so don’t be too hard on yourself, our 5:2 is PART of our life, NOT all of it so live and enjoy….Have a great day team… πŸ™‚ CG xxxx

    Morning Everyone

Sooooooooooo much great stuff this week from you all – thank you. I’ve weigh in today and down 0.3kg, not great but a loss. Want to break the 80kg, so hopefully in a few week will be able to achieve this.

Not such a successful week in relation to staying on target each fast day but I was wondering how other people go when you stay up really really late and then up again early in the morning how it affects your determination and ability to say no to the birthday cakes (more than one this week) sitting in the staff room. I love reading and find it hard to put a good book down – read till my eyes blur on me.

Thanks guys – looking forward the whoooo at 80kgs.

Good morning Determinators! It’s a wonderful brand new day!

Flemmie- I was in Belgium in 1991. I was on my way to Germany to work at a hospital in Dusseldorf.
Both my girlfriends are German, I remember how it snowed in Belgium this time of the year.
Not so cold … just beautiful…After spending weeks in the USA I picked up a nice Aussie and American accent without the annoying twang. Most people wanted to speak english to me …I wanted to speak the lingo. Just loved the chocolate…..I weighed 55kgs in those days!
OK on to today’s weigh in…… 72kgs….total loss over 20 weeks 10.2kgs. Now onwards to 70kgs my goal.

Keep up the good work! use your AUSSIE DETERMINATION every day…. You can do it…..GO GAL

Jenmac, I had that trouble when the tennis was on, awfully late nights, but tried to stick to teas, or “cheap” nibbles…carrot straws etc, not real good that late at night..But….also saved enough cals on fast days for a milky espresso which helps…good luck, but birthday cake, mmmmmm pretty hard except HAVE IT TOMORROW. Have a great day…CG xx

Goo morning everyone. Once again some interesting reading. Flemishcurves I understand your Dutch perfectly. I do admire you being avle to speak all those languages. And so good for the brain too. Our daughter is married to a Swiss. She lived there for a few years , near Basel. Her husband ( now in Australia) can speak Swiss German, German, Italinan and French. As you say many of you learn these languages at school. I think it’s fantastic.
Thanks too for the tip re weighing all food on Non diet days. I haven’t been doing that so will start.
OK housework to do- now that is NOT fun.
    Cheers. DS

    Good Day AD’s
Big congrats to all of those who had losses big or small. And those who plateaued, dont b disappinted it will happen for sure.
Weigh in day for me, not a great loss, but loss is a loss, yeah??
Lost 0.7 kgs this week, current weight is 70.7 kgs
Total loss in 18 weeks is 13.8 kgs.
Now eagerly waiting to touch 60’s. Will I be able to do it??? Dont know but surely wont give up my Aussie Determination.
Back to house work for me too Dogsabie, not fun πŸ™

Good morning everyone. Fatbuster congrats on your loss, and go gal what a great loss over 20 weeks! Love hearing about all of your losses – very encouraging. I’m looking forward to a more relaxed weekend too eating wise. But Dogsabie I agree with you, I need to start tracking my TDEE on non-fast days. Mainly because I gave myself a really hard time last night. I was very hungry – often am after a fast day. And so I had a small second helping of roast vegetables and a wine too. Then I got the guilts because I’d wrecked my day, so to speak. Stupid isn’t it! NOW I’m thinking that the way to avoid this is to track my TDEE and plan for those little extras that we all look forward to on 5:2 – all accounted for and guilt-free. I was trying to avoid counting calories on non-fast days as I’ve been on so many diets over the years and counted calories till the cows come home, & felt that 5:2 was great cos I didn’t have to. But it’s stupid getting yourself down if you’ve had a reasonable day …….you just didn’t bother to actually work it out. Make sense to anyone?!
Have a great weekend everyone and Countrygal thanks for your words “so don’t be too hard on yourself, our 5:2 is PART of our life, NOT all of it so live and enjoy.” Gotta remember that one.

    Hi all.
So delighted to find this forum. Love all of your encouraging and positive blogs. Great to know so many others are doing the same thing. I have been on the 5:2 for one week and have lost 1.5kg and I am very happy about that. Also wanting to lose 20kgs over time.
    Look forward to future contact.

    Good morning wonderful determinators πŸ™‚
Weighed in today at 78.5 kilos, loss of 1 k from last week same time πŸ™‚ I think 4:3 and low(er) carb are working well. Rewarded myself with a pretty wine coloured lippy.
Congrats – all you losers πŸ™‚
Have a great Saturday, lets make it to the next week without majorly denting our hard work this week πŸ™‚

Focus, welcome to our thread, AUSSIE DETERMINATION, we will guide and support you on this wonderful journey with 5:2. I would say definately do your MFP on non fast days to keep track of your TDEE, it’s the only way to keep tabs. I have lost just on 20k and that would not have been possible without counting calouries. We think we guess correctly, but just adding parsley has calouries! Of course you can still have your treats on non fast days but always log them with MyFitnessPal so you can keep track. As I said yesterday, either plan it as in a recipe or log it as you go, it’s not difficult and it depends on you how serious you are about getting to your healthy goal. I have just made a potato salad, 4 servings, and logged it as I went with MFP so can still have it but know exactly how many cals I’m having. It’s not tedious, it’s easy and it’s all up to you. So be good to yourself, don’t sweat the small stuff, a few minutes on the computer to log calouries is a real life changer YOU CAN DO IT and still have a few wines tonight if you want…. πŸ˜† enjoy….CG xx

Hi all, I started a month ago and have so far lost just over 5k. πŸ™‚ I am stoked with this. I live in Narrabeen, Sydney and am a mad keen swimmer in our ocean pool here (everyday of the year – my friends think I am mad!).

Have read over some recent posts, and you all sound like a great bunch of gals! Very motivated and motivating with some fabulous information to share. I look forward to chatting more!

    Good afternoon everyone

Been to gym its 36 here today worked hard

I booked my bali trip this morning wasn’t going to do it till 20kg gone bargain came up, this morning saved $1000 in total for our 5 flights. Oh well I am at 16kg gone. Hence my name.

I am planing to drop 25kg in 31 weeks. May have a few 4 3’s coming up. Extra gym sessions each week. I am determined. But if drop, off a bit less I will not call it a fail. So win win I figure.

    Pushing to 100 very soon.

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Good luck

Love this program I even made chocolate brownie last night had some and was still under my calorie goal.

Love my fitness pal as well.

Great news Bali, you’ll do it, YOU CAN DO IT, when are you heading off? You have a goal in mind and a date so the pressure is on! Don’t be too hard on yourself though, if you hit a plateau, you still know things are happening on the inside you can’t see.
Sarah, your more than welcome to join our team, your doing so well already but you can never get enough support, especially on THOSE day’s when nothing seems to be going right….. CG xx

Hi All, interesting to read the above posts as I had just reached the conclusion that hit and miss NF days are not the way to go when trying to lose. Got carried away with the ‘you can eat normally’ on NF days and you can, up to a point which of course is the TDEE count. Mine is set too high for my height and build while trying to lose so I gained 300gr. back this week. Need to eat no more than 1700 for a time. (Doesn’t help my husband is on holidays and we’ve had birthdays happening for just over a week now!)Still, Monday is the start of another week and I’m planning to get on top of the MFP ap.

Bali, I went to Thailand for a month a few years ago when I wasn’t dieting and
came home over 1k lighter, think it was the heat and type of food combo that did it. So, don’t sweat it …. as if in the tropical heat this time of year πŸ™‚

Hi Gang, just dropped in for a mo, sorry, no time to catch up on posts, am back from city run, but only one day before we go again. And I just have to go get the grey hair rinsed and whiskers waxed etc! So today is gone.

I Did get the ghist that your op is in the wind, CG, crossing everything for you (maybe the distance Reiki vibes bit the theatre list bod on the butt!!) Will keep you on my sundown list (when meditating over a rum on the deck while my scrub birds settle for the night). So glAD GG IS BACK AS YOUR BACK UP.

Regards and welcome to all the newbies. Stick with it. You WILL win! I’m off for a 2 week trip to Tasmania (from Far Nth QLD) Brrr, apparently there’s another heat wave coming, hope it doesn’t reach Tassie now I have repacked (for the enth time!) and gone for warm gear. And wouldn’t you know it- there’s storms and flash flood warnings predicted here, just when I DON’T need the roads cut to the airport! (120 k’s away). which is why we are leaving early in case by Tuesday my hut is cut off.

Anyway, just had to share my yahooo! My weigh in this morning (a day Late) was 86.4kgs! Yess! I still have a long way to goal wt (64ish), but I’m really thrilled to have dropped 7 Kg’s. (5 in under 5 weeks since I began 5:2). I feel great! Even if I lose ground on holiday I know now I can reverse it. I’m instinctively making better food choices and my old fatty favourites actually don’t appeal. Will try to download my fitness ap onto my phone to keep me on track. Take care of yourselves. Cheers! Gypsy

Lovely to hear from you Gypsy, hope all is well, great loss you clever girl you….take care..CG xx

Happy Saturday everyone,Welcome new people to 5:2 and AUSSIE DETERMINATION.

Just about to catch up on today’s post when this one caught my eye and I needed to reply

Jenmic if you need a 5:2buddy let me know. I know the challenge with losing weight with an underactive thyroid .

I also have a houseful of people ( not on 5:2). Two of my children are very fussy eaters and getting them to put on weight is part of their problem. Its great being able to know how many calories in food so I can get them to pick healthier choices. All thanks to 5:2

Well here I am having a big whinge. My brand new Weight Watchers scales are rubbish. Or broken or something. Yesterday I was 73.4 kilos, today I’m 75.45. No way. I might have to remove the batteries and reinsert them. Otherwise it’s straight back to where they came from. Damn nuisance.
You are all doing so well. I think it’s is important to think of this as a way of life and if we overdo the calories
one day, there is always tomorrow. I think beating oneself up about it is negative and we need to stay positive.
Country Gal – your scales that do everything bar the vacuuming might be the problem with mine too. Maybe just too much info. Except yours seem to work.
Gypsy I hope you didn’t only pack woolie jumpers etc for Tassie. The weather has warmed up. It was supposed to get to 27 here today but we have a strong breeze blowing off the sea which keeps the temp down. It suits me as I don’t like the hot weather. Quite a few folk from Queensland have moved here over the years to escape the heat.
    Cheers DS

Dogsabie, mine must be broken too, 79.0 yesterday, 80k this morning…who do we speak to about this??? Hehehe…. πŸ™‚ CG xx

Dogsabie, I’m fluctuating too, have been the last few weeks, no matter what I do but doesn’t go over the 80.0 Mark but damn frustrating…just one of those things, keep at it, I am, I keep thinking what I have lost, so there’s my incentive..I was 99.5 so now somewhere between 79-80k so still happy just getting a bit slow, but the scales WILL move, they have too, I’m doing everything right, so just keep thinking things inside must be working….I was complimented yesterday by a local lass who has been away 6 weeks with school holiday, couldn’t get over how much weight I’d lost…., the scales are arguing the point….but something is working…cheer up, it does work…CG xx

Thanks Countrygal. Yes it’s easy to get disheartened. I’m doing everything right too ( well mostly ) I am feeling very well though so it MUST be the diet. As someone earlier one mentioned – Go Gal I think, we are losing that visceral fat that it so dangerous.
OK onwards and upwards but not the weight!
Cheers I’m off to watch TV with hubby. Not exactly intellectual but we all need some downtime.
    XxX DS

I’d like to believe so but would feel better if the tummy was gurgling so I could feel it, but I’m not even hungry Dogsabie and had hardly anything to eat….oh well, on we go, every journey has a turning (somewhere) enjoy the telly..CG xxx

Dogsaabie I bought WW’s digital scales at Target a couple of years ago and weighing is all they do – no bells and whistles. I have found though that I needed to find a hard surface and not move them to get accurate measuring. I’m sure you already worked that out but thought I’d weigh-in (groan) πŸ™‚

    Great news, Gypsy. Happy travelling.
