  • Afternoon AD’s
Welcome to all our new members …. hope you find AUSSIE DETERMINATION helpful in your quest to better health and the bonus of weight loss.

CG – how wonderful for you…. GO YEE TO THE CHEMIST AND GET NICOTINE PATCHES .. better still, your GP for a script … they are cheaper on script . You need to stop the cigs for 6 weeks pre op…AND…. do not wear the patch at night they cause nightmares.
Foxy – hope all is well … stay safe xxxxxx

LOTUS-You may not see weight loss on the scales…. The loss is happening on the inside as we speak. With exercise and weight loss over time you can reverse the effects of INSULIN RESISTENCE. Taking Metformin is helping to reduce your risk of developing TYPE 2 DIABETIES.
The causes of IR are: obesity, smoking, age, sleep problems (sleep apnea)hormones and certain diseases.
Continue to exercise daily and make wise food choices during your 5:2 journey…. Try to limit foods loaded with sugar .Have the occasional treat by all means.
ALWAYS BE ADVISED BY YOUR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL BEFORE DOING OR CHANGING ANY DIET OR MEDICATION.Hope this helps.
Hope fast day is going well for you all ….its nearly over……..GO GAL

Thanks CG. Yes, my doctors ( both my endocronologist and GP) have actually suggested that I try this method to lose weight. Traditional diets have not helped till now although I exercise and eat well (in general…)- to quote the endo “you are not obese enough for my to prescribe bariatric surgery, but losing weight, and quickly, is the best option for you to reverse the insulin resistance. Have a go at the 5:2 diet.” He did suggest to do the two days together as that’s better for appetite control, and I have done it a few times that way, but the rest of the week then is unsettled.
    current BMI 29.0

Hello everyone. Hope you are all having a great day…… 🙂

Hello to you to Catherine 🙂
And many thanks Go Gal, for the kind words. My 5:2 is endorsed by the medics and also sugars being monitored regularly. HbA1C in December 2014 was 5.9

Countrygal. Let’s be honest , quitting smoking is not easy but oh so worth it. Get the patches as another AD suggests. I gave up many years ago. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. Wow 20 kilos weight loss is fantastic. All round applause please. Yes I did not want to be the patient lying on the table either but I too was desperate. It’s sounds to me like you have had all your work up done and hot to trot. Let’s hope they don’t stuff you around anymore.
Yip I know where Leongatha is. When we lived in Gisborne we also had koalas in the garden. Kangaroos about too. Here we have wallabies that get into people’s gardens and as you would know can do an awful lot of damage. Lovely though. We also have possums. They frightened one of my overseas rellies big time as they make a really weird noise at night. She thought it was a Tassie Devil. Poor things with that dreadful facial tumour.

Good news with the appointment, CG. Hope it all goes well for you. Do try with giving up the smokes, you are doing so well in everything else, AD might get you through. I have looked up Wilson’s Promontory on my map – you couldn’t get much further south on the mainland. No doubt you enjoy some of the winds blasting through the Roaring Forties, as we do, but I hope you are more sheltered in your valley.

Welcome, newcomers. You will get lots of support and any advice you might need on this thread.

    B

LOL about the Possums Dogsabie. We had a guest from overseas who thought we had ghosts as they could hear the Possums and / other beasties playing on the roof at night and thought it was a poltergeist 🙂

    Happy FAST day everyone.

CG fantastic news about the hospital booking…:)

Welcome Cohayney and mta to this great way of life.

MTA in answer to your question about eating on FAST Day…the trick is to leave eating for as long as you can manage, it may take a month to get to 3pm.

Keeping busy helps on FAST day. Having plenty of water or herbal teas is crucial to replace fluids that would normally be found in the foods that your not eating.( may stop headaches)At the beginning go easy on yourself. It can become a bit obsessive looking at the clock and wondering can I eat now?

Plan what your 500calories will look like the day before the fast .Then you won’t find yourself at the shops on FAST day……we have ALL been there and regretted it.

Remember you are not alone there is a LOT of support here on AUSSIE DETERMINATION.

See you for weigh in tomorrow!

Hi team, thank you all so much for the unexpected support, I’m over the moon but because I’ve mentioned my back giving me billio for so long and stopping me doing so much, especially walk too far (like 10 mts.) , thought I share that there is a light at the end of my pain tunnel. I too hope there is no more mucking about Dogsabie, it’s not his fault, just the public system making it so damn long before you can get in for follow up. I’ve just finished a few hours on my beloved ride on, quite burnt actually, really beautiful outside but got hot over the last hour or two. They just said on the news we are heating up next week and the firey’s are nervous…….so am I! My property is clean and clear as is the grazing land I join, but if we get hot North winds…Towny tourists who throw a cig butt out a car window, away it will go! We had hay bails go up not long ago ( not mine) but it doesn’t take much…12 mths work down the drain, poor devil! Anyway on with 5:2 left over fried caulie rice with prawns tonight, the “rice” was beautiful last night, thoroughly recommend it, I threw some red capsicum in it too to get it out of its misery, about a third left in the fridge, needed quite a bit of low salt soy for flavour, but worked well, 39 cals I think it worked out to be, and you know how low prawns are. I posted the recipe yesterday if you want it. Having a milky espresso now, but all calculated into my cals.
Weigh in tomorrow, if your struggling, have an early dinner, wont hurt, or a diet soft drink, it does help the hunger. Enjoy your evening team..:) CG xxx

Hi all, woke up to another snowy morning, hope it doesn’t last. We’ve had so much snow this year already, luckily it melted quite soon.

Lotus, are you logging very accurately? I find that when I count calories on non-fast days, I have to pretty much weigh everything I put in my mouth because I will underestimate my intake dramatically if I have to estimate what portion size everything is. Just a splash more olive oil can mean 120kcal extra on your total daily intake. I have to measure out any oil I use in my measuring spoons or I’m over my TDEE for sure. You’d be surprised how easily you add a tbs of oil to a dish.

CG, I’m so chuffed about your appointment!

FC be careful in the slush, it must get awfully slippery, but oh so pretty when it first snows. Yes, it is a waiting game now, just hope he gives me an operation date…enjoy your day…CG xx

GOODNIGHT ROMEO…More of your music tomorrow…. Flemmy will continue listening to you…….Go GALxxxxxx

Well here we are drawing the end of another FD for many of us. My new electronic digital sales arrived today. Weight watchers ones. I’ve set up the weight bit but they measure fat, bone density & supposidly
Other stuff too. Will have to read the instruction book. Hmm not sure about the bone density. I thought that was done by a radiographer. Anyhow I’m now officially .25 K’s heavier than I though but can now have accurate weigh ins.
The diet day went OK and I’m defiantly not as hungry as I was when I first started.
Goof luck with the quitting smoking Countrygal. We will support and encourage you all the way.
Yes idiots who throw cigarette buts out of their car windows are needing serious discipline. The trouble is no one ever sees them doing it or is prepared to dob them in.
    OK over and out.

    Hello ADs
Checking in late nite today. Work’s keeping me very very busy these days. It is actually a good thing as fast days getvery easy.
Fasted yesterday n today (b2b), cant believe it that 3 fasts done n dusted for this week. Followed by my weigh in on Saturday.
I am very excited n happy today as I received an amazing gift in mail from a very dear friend. Means a lot to me n putting a smile on my face.
CG, all the best with your appointment, happy to hear that you are looking forward to get pain free back. Hope you still loving the water aerobics.

All those who helped me to make a decision sbout tray of bakalava, a biiiiiiiiiig thanks as I have been able to resist it for two days now. Well, no guarantees for tomorrow though …. Ha ha ha ha.

CG, i got yo try your fried caulie rice recipe, seems very yummy.
All others , all the best for tomorrow’s weigh in.

Andrew, if you are reading this:- all the best mate n hoping that you are doing fine as always. I am thinking of you, regardless you post or not….

Signing off to get some zzzzzzzs… Nity nite

Thank you everyone who was concerned about us being in danger of bush fire that was near us. The fire is contained and controlled, lots of smoke and a bit of ash. We had a small thunder storm and a lot of rain in arvo, so that has eased things a bit. Feel so sorry for the poor folks of Northcliffe and Windy Harbour though….they have to get out or they wont survive, fire is still out of control..

Wonderful news about your op CG, all the best for your appointment. And good luck with giving up smoking, which is hard to do…..speaking from experience here….I gave up 30 years ago and have never looked back YOU CAN DO IT! 🙂

Our chop suey was delicious….I served with cauli rice….hubby wants it fried next FAST day, so I might use your recipe CG….only thing is I’ve had that Cathartic experience…..must be the amount of vegies I ate today…

Late night check in from me …. another FD over, Been a busy couple of days and looking forward to tomorrow.

Foxy, glad fire is contained in your area. As you say the poor folk of Northcliffe and Windy Harbour are doing it tough. Can’t help thinking of all the animals and wildlife caught up in this too. 🙁

Had to get a new food processor today. My old one was just that… old! Have unpacked it all but blowed if I can figure out all this new fangled stuff. Grrr will leave it out in bits until tomorrow when I can actually experiment with it. Ridiculous instruction manual.

Good news CG re your op. Hoping there are no more delays

Welcome to the newbies. Lots of good advice and friendship on this board 🙂

HI to all. Now tell me are you really all from Australia? I started last week and I’m from Western Australia – Margaret River to be exact. Looks like quite a few of you have been doing 5:2 since last September or so? I haven’t read back over ALL the pages but how have you all been doing? And what results have you had so far?

And……where are you all from ? Good advice and friendship sounds pretty good to me!

    suejen

    Good morning all

Cannot sleep the sun is just coming up and one of my chooks is crowing laying the first egg for the day. Peaceful and quiet coffee on the go.

Very excited with my weigh in this morning down 1.1kg from last Friday. Haven’t lost a whole kilo for a while. It again reminds me that I was overdoing the exercise and not loosing. Still doing three circuit classes a week.

CG good luck with your appointment hope this makes a hugh difference in your life.

I am coming up to the five month mark and down 16kg now. Hooray
Pushing to the 20kg mark now.

I struggled with my fast day a bit yesterday, a bit light headed and really hungry from 4pm to 6pm dinner. Ran to the loo so much. I stuck it out my body is obviously busy breaking down fat and fluid. Pay day today

Will try cauliflower rice this week.

If you are new or just reading and not started yet jump in. Day 1 just organise all of your food for the day planning is the key. You can do this, seriously if I can stick this out then eps gone can..

Have a lovely day will check in at lunch time at work

Hi all, I am from NZ, but live in Melbourne. I’m re-igniting my fasting, after a year break. I’ve done my Monday Thursday fast and am excited to see the forums still going. Be great to share the journey with you all.

    Good morning everyone,
Hope you all have an awesome day.
I got up early this morning and went to the gym, had a good workout.
I have my fast days under control, juts having a bit of an issue with my non-fast days. According to MFP I never go over my TDEE but I come really close most of the time and as I am on the heavier side atm, my TDEE is over 2200.
I am finding that “pigging out” is not as much fun as it used to be. I always feel really yucky afterwards…
CG, I am really happy for you, and quitting smoking was the best thing I have ever done.
SueJen, I am from South west Sydney. Good luck with your first FD. I am still quite new, started this year.
    Anyway, Onwards and downwards… 🙂

Weigh in day today three weeks into the 5:2- down 2.9kg since start, neck the same, waste 7cm down, hips 4cm down bust 2 cm down. Total of 13cm all over. So am a happy chappy today. Hope you all have a successful week as well.

ADVICE PLEASE – in my tracker it says that my waist to height ratio is .53% so what is the goal to aim for here being 6 foot tall? I am not sure what the optimum ratio should be and how this fits into the measurements etc.

CG, thanks for the concern, luckily it’s powdery snow and no slush in sight yet. It’ll warm up a bit by Saturday (yay above freezing temperatures!) so the snow will be gone by then. But I did choose not to ride my bike today. I have a long tradition of falling off my bike on snowy days. You should see me. My tram service was absolutely perfect today (no snow trouble, yay!) so I was perfectly happy walking and tramming everywhere.

GG, you can’t imagine how excited I am that I introduced you to Romeo Santos. I wasn’t going to mention him at first (thought it was a bit silly) but am so glad I did in the end.

Catherine00, I have found that for me pigging out these days is more in the neihbourhood of what I used to eat on any given day. I have no idea how my body coped with the sheer volumes of food I put in my mouth. I was just discussing this with my mother. People always ask me how I deal with the discomfort of being hungry on FDs, but people never seem to realise the discomfort of structurally overeating. We just take it as an unchangeable fact. When I have a lot of food and start feeling full and a bit bloated, I remember that that used to be my standard evening settings back int he day. And I feel so uncomfortable all night. I used to think the bloat and fullness were just normal. But they’re not. I’d take a slight hunger pang twice a week over feeling bloated and lethargic every night any day.

Wow, Bali, 16kg, that’s crazy! That’s more than 3kg/month. Congrats! You must be drowning in your clothing 🙂

Hi suejen, welcome. I’m actually not from Australia, I’m from Belgium. Our beautiful CG found me in another thread and invited me to come join this wonderful group of people. I actually started in April 2013, did it all very slowly and have lost almost 24kg since. I’ve lost 6kg since September. I was already at a healthy weight at that point so my losses aren’t so big, I’m basically vain-losing now. The people here are lovely and positive. I have found that I’m a lot more disciplined (without it being an effort or sacrifice) since joining the group because they keep me accountable for my choices on non-FDs. The weigh-ins on Friday are a great way to keep yourself aware of what you do, without any judgement or critique if you put on a it (everyone fluctuates anyway). So I hope you’ll find a nice little place to nestle into here. If you have any questions, don’t be scared to ask, chances are, we have asked ourselves the same questions. So don’t hold back.

Foxy, glad you’re okay, you had us all worried there for a bit 🙂

Wow FB, 3 FDs done this week and it’s only Thursday (here at least lol). That’s impressive!

Dogsabie, I recently got some body analysis scales as well. I love them but I’m not sure how accurate they are. they tend to put me in the 20-23% body fat range but I don’t think that’s realistic. I’m pretty svelte these days but I def don’t have the toned body of a person with 20% body fat. I also don’t work out enough for that. When I look up pictures of body fat ranges online (like this one: http://i.imgur.com/zxOE5L7.jpg), I can assure you I look nothing like the 20-22%, or even the 25% in this particular example. But I do love them. At least the weight seems incredibly accurate and I like seeing my water content for some reason.

I calculated the average calories I had this week, 1307kcal/day, not shabby at all. Hopefully it’ll show up on my weigh-in tomorrow morning. But I weighed 62.2 this morning so probably not.

HAve a great weigh-in tomorrow (or Saturday) everyone! Wishing you all good news!

Ruxton, the internet tells me the healthy range for men is between 43% and 52% and for women between 42% and 48%. I calculated my ratio and it said 39.52% so I’m technically underweight? Which is odd with a BMI of 22.7? I do have a very narrow waist (I’m on the cusp of a pear and hourglass) because of my Bettie Page flared rib cage (my ribs stuck out even when I was 18kg above a healthy weight.

Anyway, you seem pretty close to a healthy ratio. I looked it up, and most doctors advise a waist below 92cm (36 inches) for 6ft.

Thanks FC I did look on the internet but got more confused as I went on. So is the percentage a measurement of body fat or something else. My head says it has to be a percentage of ‘something’ wondered what the something was. Is it that I have 53% of my total weight is body fat – half of me is plain old fat?

Hi Flemish! Thanks for your tip regarding calorie counting on feed days, I do log it all in my calorie app but I don’t weigh everything. I should do that – pro’lly why weight loss is slow. On a positive note, have lost about 600 gms this week, so down to 79.0 Kg 🙂 (original weight was 82.5 kilos in 27 December 2014, goal weight is 65 kilos), Also, your weight-loss journey is amazing. And yes, I do agree with the whole bloated feeling thing. Feeling lighter (and somehow more compact even if it does not show on the outside lol)is such a big benny! And losing the fear of hunger, you know, as kids or young adults we were always taught to “eat now or you will feel hungry later”. I wonder why I never did question parents/peers and ask them why they thought mild hunger was such a scary monster??
Third day of the 4:3 today … I am really hoping to hit 78.9 tomorrow but lets see, as water retention is unpredictable. May be I should schedule one of those electronic scale thingies for my weight loss reward goals. 🙂

BTW, ADs, there are a lot of resources and interesting findings in this website on fasting- https://www.fastday.com/

SueJen: hi! I am from Sydney. I think we are a mixed bag here as to where we are from, but the group is really supportive and the amount of knowledge found on this thread for this way of life (WOL)/ way of eating (WOE) is amazing. I am fairly new to fasting, only started in Jan this year after a couple of “trial fasts” in December. Good luck!

I hope you all have a great weigh-in today/tomorrow and the gods of weight-loss smile down on you. Personally I have found it better to weigh-in the day after the post fats day ( so if I fasted on Thursay, then Saturday and not Friday for the weigh-in). Tere is also an interesting ( if scary, for me) concept of weighing oneself daily and recording it so that you can see the trending graph rather than weekly once results. Weekly once weigh-ins may be inaccurate as there are multiple factors in a weigh-in. https://www.fastday.com/fasting/why-the-scales-dont-tell-the-truth/

How I understand it (and I am not an expert), is that it’s the difference between your height and the circumference of your waist.

    For instance, I am 164.5cm (5’5) and my waist is 65cm. 65/164.5= 0.3952

So my waist circumference is about 39% of my height. It basically calculates how much fat you have around your tummy area in proportion to your height, which is the part that has the most unhealthy fat storage (the visceral fat that’s found around the organs). This is obviously only an estimation because people are built differently. But measuring the waist is now seen as a more accurate way to determine health because BMI is almost redundant at this point (I still use it religiously though).

    I hope this made sense?

    Good Morning ladies,

Weighed in this morning and lost 600grammes, my curves trainer is very happy with this but I wanted a bit more but a loss is a loss and its better than putting it on.

    Have a lovely day:)

Lotus, I don’t think it’s necessary to always weight everything (who wants to live that way?) but I have found that if I do it for a week every few months, I reset my instinct of how much something really is. Even when you make an effort to use the real portions sizes we’re supposed to eat, slowly they creep up again and I find myself piling on the pasta or throwing around the olive oil again. Every once in a while, I like weighing my food religiously (even though it’s annoying) just to give myself the knowledge of what a portion size (and its caloric content) is. I realised how much more I was eating than I thought, even when logging. Wow 3.5kg in less than 2 months, that’s astounding! You’re going to love getting to 65kg, btw 🙂 I started at 85.5 (I actually weighed more but I only plucked up the courage to weigh myself 2 weeks into the WOL) and hitting 65 last October/November felt like a small miracle. Yes, the fear of hunger, I know it well. My mother is very typically as she always suffered from getting hangry (angry from hunger). since going 5:2, she doesn’t have it at all anymore. Seriously, being peckish is no reason to panic (and it used to be with me). So in short, don’t bore yourself to death with the measuring, you have to find it . I can imagine it’s not for everyone (and definitely not for all the time). My mother never measures anything out. That’s why I cook for my parents on FDs, my mother hates being precise with food. Or anything for that matter, bless her cottons 😉 Having to weigh all her food would probably mean the end of 5:2 for her. So try it out, see if you can manage. don’t beat yourself up if it’s not for you.

THanks FC – i get it now. much appreciated

No prob, Ruxton, that’s what we’re all here for 🙂

Congratulations mg! its more than 1/2 kilo weight loss (in a week is it?) and that’s better than the average for women.
Flemish, you are right, my current height/waist ratio is 0.54 – I am 164 cms and 88 cm waist. Can only dream about a 65 cm waist lol.

On another note – I thought it will be nice to list all the benefits I have had from intermittent fasting, not related to weight loss directly, maybe during our weigh-in days we can reflect on our other blessings so the weight loss /gain or body measurements are not our only focus.
    So for me,
    1. Sleeping and waking up feeling light. No bloating, even during periods. And less PMS
    2. Losing the fear or hunger. Nice to know that, one does not faint from hunger pangs in normal circumstances (only possible if already underwieght or undernourished, and that ain’t the case with me at least!)
    3. Better skin. Less zits/spots
    4. Clothes look sleeker – less prominent muffin top.
    5. Sharper mind – I have no idea why, but my chess scores, for example, are better on a fast day. Ditto with work (that I am shirking now ha ha)- easier to problem solve. In adverts and in my own mind, it was always eat breakfast to avoid “fuzzies” right? Well, not right apparently. Having said that, I have yet to last the full day and wait until dinner to break my fast. Need something mid afternoon to avoid hangry (hunger angry) and fuzzie feelings.
    6. better lower BP and eventually, better blood glucose levels.
    7. Spending less, not just on food, but also other stuff. A subtle attitude shift. A healthier wallet!!
    8. More efficiency, as have to clean house/ do work in order to stop thinking about food. So fast days are efficient days 🙂
    9. better performance at exercise and sport. I thought it will be opposite, so this was welcome!

    any other benefits?

10 lower food bills! Not only do I eat less, I’m better at planning ahead so I don’t let things go to waste.

11 My knees and feet don’t hurt anymore if I have to stand or walk a lot (although that’s a weight loss benefit).

12 Being in control of my food intake makes me feel more in control of my life in general.

13 I started paying more attention to details when it comes to food, so I’ve vastly expanded my use of herbs/spices and ingredients in general. Meaning that my meals on non-FDs have also become more varied and exciting.

I only started measuring my waist after 4 months so I don’t know where I started but in August 2013 my waist was 84cm. So that’s almost 20cm in 18 months. If that is any motivation for you.

Good morning ALL. Great to read so much positivity this morning and congratulations to everyone on their losses. Bali…..you are just humming along….16 kilos in 5 months is awesome. Even if we don’t lose as much as we like, it’s great to remember how much we have lost and how far we have come overall..
Just a small loss for me this week…300 grams, which takes me an even 73 kgs….so 10.6 in 5 months and 17 kgs since January 2014! I am very happy.

Welcome suejen…..I am in Amazing Albany WA, there are a few of us Westerners on here..well done on starting 5:2, you will start to find the differences in how you feel quite soon, it’s a great way of eating and living!

Just out of curiosity does anyone take their resting heart rate? The reason I ask is that I tool my blood pressure yesterday just to see how it was going (had high BP before I lost weight) and it is great….but my resting heart rate was only 48 beats per minute….I then took it manually and it was still only 50. Normal resting heart rate is supposed to be 60 -100. I have the RHR of an elite athlete? Or else it just normally low….value your thoughts thanks

Yes, thanks Flemish. That IS motivation for me.

Foxy – such a low RHR – wow! that’s just great. It shows your engine ( heart) is great shape.
My RHR is high, but supposed to be more a genetic/ individual thing than health thing.

    Another benefit I remembered:

    10. Food tastes so much better and vibrant!! The palate feels clean.
    11. Teeth feel clean too (odd, and I am not sure everyone gets this but I do on a fast day).

And congrats Foxy – so 10.6 in 5 months and 17 kgs since January 2014. That’s amazing

Foxy, I just tried to do it manually about a fortnight ago, and I had the same thing. It was maybe 52? I was worried about that because I also suffer from low blood pressure (although my constant lightheadedness has all but gone away since starting 5:2) so I ignored it (how healthy of me lol). Kind of glad I’m not the only one. I have no answers for ou, sadly.

14: Feeling more in control. Knowing that Hangry is just a state of mind.

15: Feeling happier, for some strange reason that I am unfamiliar with. I wasn’t unhappy before.

16: making me consciously drink more water.

Hello.. yesterday’s fast went well.. ended up little lower than 500cal..!!! Feeling so much better and in control after the yesterday.. !! I know it is a tiny win.. but .. every small win in right direction counts hey…!!! Big big big thanks to you courtygal and foxycoxy, for you encouraging words..wouldnt have been able to do it without AUSSIE DETERMINATION. Thanks for being there.. Love and hugs… <3 <3 ..!!!
BTW,, went back to my post and couldn’t believe I actually wrote it and that too few hours ago…..!! sorry for being such a whiner…!!! good luck to all who are fasting..!!!
Weigh in tomorrow .. and even if the scale dont move I am not bothered.. I know I can do it..!!

    Good ones Catherine 🙂

You are more than welcome Pree! That is what we are here for, and we’ve all had those days that we regret after food wise! The best thing is that you got right back into it……I remember a post of countrygals early into our 5:2 journey when she said she felt proud of herself lying in bed after a successful fast day….those are the times that we can concentrate on because WE KNOW WE CAN DO IT!

Thanks Lotus & Flemmy…..I will keep an eye on it, I am due for the dreaded breast exam and mammogram this month (hate it more than a pap smear), so will mention to my doctor. Hopefully I’m just fit 😀

    Thank you Lotus…. 🙂

This is one HAPPY DIETER. My new wiz bang scales tell me that I’ve lost almost 4 kilos in just under a month. Oh I’m so chuffed.
FlemishCurves thanks for feedback on the scales.
Suejen Hi. I think most of us are Aussies. I’m in Tassie. Im sitting in my lounge room looking out over beautiful Binalong Bay. Last night we were watching the TV programme Coast. It featured WA & also Margaret River. It was very interesting and all those vineyards and wine! I
Bali2015. This is strictly tongue in cheek. I had a chuckle at your chook crowing laying it’s first egg of the day. Does it have a gender indentity problem? Just kidding right.
    Have a good day all.
Oh and Coutrygal- how’s the nicotine withdrawal symptoms going ? I really feel for you as very addicted to nicotine. Just think about the lovely, pink lungs you are going to have. AND drastically reduce your risk of developing lung cancer or Emphysema. Good luck.

Hi, I live in Sydney and just started today 🙂

I am almost scared to eat anything though. I have no idea about how many calories in anything so I have just been drinking peppermint tea today. Where is a good place to look up the calories of food or online recipes that are great to do on fast days?

I have out on lots of weight because of a very under active thyroid 🙁 and I am hoping that with the medication and diet my weight till drop.

    Hi Tara,
“My fitness pal” is a great app if you have a smart phone to help you with your calories. It is also on computer if you don’t like apps on smart phones.
I love it, you can even scan bar codes. I find it is great for fast days- FD but also for you non-FD as it keeps you accountable.
Good luck with the rest of your fast day.
Boiled eggs are a great source of protein (very filling) with very few calories. 1 egg is usually around 80 calories.
    Hope that helps… 🙂

Suejen, I’m another not from Aussie, but with two of my children moving to Sydney late last year, and the welcome I have received from this great group (thanks, CG!) I am happy to be an honourary Aussie (except in sport, of course).

Weight this morning was down, but as I am still shifting the kilo or two that I put on last week in Sydney (visiting said children) not surprising. I’m pretty well at goal, doing 5:2 for health benefits and to see where I will end up (or down).

Wonderful losses and positive attitude today – keep it up, everyone 🙂 B

When we were in our first home, and the children were just infants, we got some bantams – small eggs for small appetites. One of them took to crowing before dawn, I was always conscious of her disturbing the neighbours, and as fowl and vegie garden don’t mix, we ended up finding new homes for them.

Tara, there are lots of sites online that will give calorie content of anything. Just google it. When I started I had an mushroom omelette for breakfast, apple for lunch, another piece of fruit for afternoon tea, raw carrot when I got home from work, and a leafy salad with avocado (and maybe a little low-fat meat) for dinner. Now I find I can skip the breakfast, so have a boiled egg for lunch, and the rest as above. Don’t count the content, but I’m sure I am under 500. I don’t count on non-fast days, still enjoy the wine, dark chocolate etc, and that worked while I was losing.

    cheers B

Good morning actually after noon team. So much activity and so much to read, what a fantastic team you are. It looks like good news all around with your weigh in today. I had a bugger of a night trying to sleep, so wide awake at 1.30 felt I should get up and do some house work I had the alarm set for 6.30am as I had early water aerobics this morning….the alarm didn’t go off, I woke at 7.30am giving me 30 mins to shower and go, had a glass of low cal milk, just to get something in my tum, uhhh, milk, big white vitamin and calcium drink. So made my class with minutes to spare, totally enjoyed it then shopped. When I got home realised I was hungry so had a lovely fresh nectarine, and then the biggest mango I could find…oh so yummy and juicy. So shopping all away, funny, these days it’s more fresh fruit and veg than anything. As you have also found, my grocery bill is definately a lot cheaper these days. Been reading our thread so think I’ve caught up.
Welcome to our new members, we will support and encourage you every step of your 5:2 journey in a fun non judgementle way. …Foxy, so glad the danger has passed. FC, thank you for all your supportive information, your a wonder. Girls, your weight loss is a credit to you because you are following the healthy path, your feeling the differences, and your scales are smiling for you. Your eating habits, now…are from the right choices you are making. Yes food does taste nicer, we are cooking with flare now not habit, we try things we never thought we would, we experiment, then share our successes. Every member of our team contributes so much to our joint goals, we need each other too, but look at the friendships we have made, we are now a family as such and our concern for each other is genuine…congratulations to you all.
My weigh in is down another .5 k so sitting on 79k exactly. (Expected more but at least it didn’t go up) I mowed all day, pretty much yesterday, watered green houses and back garden till 7.30 last night….the heat is on it’s way to Vic now, and then had the caulie rice with prawns I cooked and mixed through it. I couldn’t eat it all, funny how we now know when to stop eating….what an achievement…..so keep up the great work team. By the way, it wasn’t the clocks fault..we had a power surge the other day and when I reset it, I set the alarm to 6.30PM instead of AM, what a nutter I am 😉 Have a great day team, be kind to yourself, don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s a waste of energy….CG xx

Thank you and hello to everyone here. I will definitely download that app 🙂 I work from home and my son has just started at primary school so I have the house to myself to prepare meals.

Looking forward to the journey and hearing about yours too.

Dogsabie, WOW! To you…4k’s, are they the scales I told you about, mine are never that nice to ME…incredible, well done, You have a lot to be proud of.
Nicotine will be a slow process but did it when I had the heart ablation last year so will again, I was given a clean bill of health, fortunately, unfortunately, the anethiest (no idea how to spell it) nicked my vocal chord which left me very hoarse for 5 months, awful cough (now gone) twice had camera down my throat which proved no nasties! So alls good now….just re-reading posts and saw yours, sorry I missed it before….CG xx
