  • GL – it’s great to get home and back into your own routine. You are doing well to be where you are and the losses will start again when you have a couple of fasts under your belt (pun intended πŸ˜‰ ) It is hard to convince those who haven’t seen the documentary or read the book that this diet/wol is not a weird fad but that it works and is good for you! Never mind – you will prove them wrong; you have already come a long way and you are still on the right road.

Morning all. My goodness there is a lot to read ..how wonderful. Welcome WB you will find all the support you need to manage this new way of life on this thread. To all the newbeys the advice given is what has been learned by the oldies over quite a period of trial and error and finding out what suits each of us best. I also find I skip breakfast each day now but that did not come easily at first. After a few weeks of fasting two days a week things will become easier. I started by not eating till 10am. Then increased it by half an hour gradually until, now I regularly don’t eat till about 12.00. Unless I’m having a bad day and then have a couple of eggs earlier. Depends on how you feel and what your body tells you. Just remember that it takes time to change a lifetime of habits. I am also on a pension and have to watch my pennies and am lucky enough to have a hubby that loves to grow things so fresh out of the garden is great and cheap. It is best not buy low fat anything because of the additives. So genie you do not have to go back to the low fat verities. Just add a few more cals recipe count.

Off to the creek for swim to will get back and post later..

Thank you Fit, yes it is a WOE that suits me. My only aim is to get my waist under 77cm which is half my height. Anything else is now a bonus. While I was away I did indulge in some Boxing day sales. I was able to get some nice serving ware. This is so that I can set the table (even for one) and feel special. These are delayed reaching certain weight targets for the year.

Hi team. Welcome Wobblybitz. I think we’ll call you WB as we invariably choose a nickname. Aussie thing isn’t it. Others have given you the basics you need to get started. I personally have a boiled egg for breakfast but many don’t chose to. As they say it is doable because one does not feel deprived or resentful about having to diet EVERY B DAY. When the going gets tough ( and it will) just think – tomorrow I can eat what I like. Of course if one chooses to pig out every non fast day there are consequences. ie. The 5:2 will not work for you.
Up I used to love in a tropical climate and a familiar with the dreaded cockroaches. They are revolting things and seem to have been around since the age of the dinosaurs so doubt if they are going anywhere soon.
It’s a lot cooler here in my part of the world today which suits me. I’m having a quiet morning as the family have gone off to the local market.
    Enjoy the day team.

HappyNew Year to all you Aussie Determinators! Wishing you a wonderful year in 2016:-)

I think I posted on this thread as a newbie many moons ago. I have been on 5:2 now for over a year and have lost 16kgs. I have travelled a bit with travel scales and most FDs in hand; have been through a bit of ‘Life’ drama; have celebrated with smaller portions and the odd FD missed; learnt a lot about myself and how I react physically, psychologically, and individually to foods, drinks, and the different reasons we have them. I have a chronic health challenge – Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), commonly known, but very badly named, as Chronic Fatigue SyndromeCFS. I am mobile, but cannot exercise. I have lost 16kgs! how marvellous is 5:2. I have food quirks, intolerances, a couple of allergies, weird reactions to drugs sometimes, yet 5:2 works through it all.

I fast Mon/Thur, and eat 16:8 on the other 5 days, i.e. I don’t eat till midday, and in an 8 hr window. If it’s to be a later night I shift that to 1 or 2pm start, and. 9-10pm finish. On FDs I started at 2 meals and a snack, but after a month shifted to eating only after 6pm, and most calories in 1 meal with a bit earlier bedtime. I rarely drink calories. If 5:2 can work for me, it can work for most people. I am so glad I found 5:2 and the science behind it. I am off Blood pressure medication, I can walk a little quicker and a little further. My heart rate I must keep under has gone from 110/min to 120/min. My body and my heart loves not carrying that extra 16kgs around. My Drs are very happy with 5:2, and me on 5:2. I have 6kgs to goal weight, then maybe another 2 over time. Me and my face look normal now! It’s so exciting, even though I’ve spent most of yesterday and all today in bed so far. About to get up, shower, and get on with 2016. I pop in here occasionally to read a little, and am active on the Soouthern Hemisphere and CFS thread. Thank you for your company on this journey.

Last word, about low fat products. Not all are bad, with the extra nasties added. Check out the table and ingredients on the back. ‘Carbohydrates’ will tell you the total of complex and simple carbs in the product. Underneath that is ‘-sugar’ and that is the simple carbs, i.e. Sugars of various sorts. Roughly 5gms of ‘sugars’ = 1 teaspoon sugar. You can calculate from there. Check the ingredients list. Ingredients are listed in descending order of quantity. The biggest quantity first. A trick they use is to use various sugars so that sugar doesn’t come up as the largest ingredient e.g. Sucrose, fructose, dextrose, maltose, maltodextrin, honey, cane syrup, corn syrup, etc both ‘ose’ and syrup are giveaways of sugars.

    Cheers,
    Merry

Hi GL, I’m in the same boat on sugar and carbs, time for me to get back on track. Glad to be here with you.
Geni, I’m a longtime breakfast skipper too. Like Noots, I pushed it back from 10 until around noon, once I realized I wouldn’t die from hunger.
5:2 is a cheap way to live with all the skipped meals, and buying unprocessed food is often cheaper too. I’m trying to omit as much sugar and processed food as possible, though sometimes I fail spectacularly. But just stopping the impulse food buys has saved money.
Ah, so you’re an artist! Working with beads must make the carpal tunnel quite painful – you’ll feel better after the surgeries (I had both done, and never another problem). How nice to have the goal of vacationing in Japan!
Phew, my FD horse is kicking up a storm, but I may yet pull through today. Up, your cockroach story is helping! I remember finding them in the beds in New Orleans, crawling up walls…I tried to ignore them but the ones that flew were too much. Big as hawks.
Fit and CG, thanks for the pep talks today! You’re both amazing considering you slept barely two winks. Good advice for newcomers to revisit the early pages – how far we’ve all come. I’m grateful for this community and the changes it’s enabled for me. xxxx
ps: Hi Merry! Crossed posts with you – I have enjoyed reading your posts before – cheers and happy 2016.

Jade it’s a long road but a fun journey πŸ˜€ stick with us and 5:2, you will be pleasantly surprised how far you can go πŸ˜ƒ Support is so necessary to us all, we all share the highs, lows and hiccups πŸ˜€ but we get there.
Merry, it’s lovely of you to call in. Happy New Year to you too. You have a lot on your plate to contend with but seem to be handling it all so well. Keep up the good work…you have shown all the side benefits of this wonderful way of life, and it does inspire us all to keep going no matter what we do, it seems lame saying health and fitness, but it’s the easiest path to both as well as our weight loss πŸ˜ƒ xxxx

Have just been watching my friends grandchildren playing. Three little girls around 8 yrs old have been playing with the hair of her oldest grandson. Platting it and putting bows in it and taking photos. Lots of laughter and frivolity. He is such a gently giant. 6ft 4 ins tall and a rugby player. So good to see this family fun happening. We are all so blessed to live in peaceful countries.
I’m packing up to go home this afternoon. Holiday over for this year. The New Year begins with exercise classes starting once again on the 4th. I am really looking forward to it and getting back into the good eating patterns and fast days. Funny how our priorities have changed re food and exercise. Have a great rest of the day team and talk to you again soon.

Hi all, good to know when you’re all fasting. Was gonna do a fast day today but after hearing u guys do Mon n Thurs, I’ve decided I will do the same!got a late Xmas lunch tomorrow and my friend always goes n does too much food!! It’ll b good to follow it with a fast day !here goes!!

I have downloaded the MyFitnessPal app. You should have seen how excited I was when I worked out how to scan a barcode πŸ˜„. I have only had two farm fresh scrambled eggs this morning, four strawberries after I came back from a 2 hour walk, two glasses of water and two caffeine free black Pukka teas. Today is not a chosen FD and will will probably be having fish and salad for dinner. My walk was leisurely along the river so no big calorie burning done but there will be some burnt. I have a Fitbit (just the basic one) and it shows I have done nearly 9000 steps today. I always aim for the 10000 but seem to end up around the 5 or 6. I am determined to do better!
I do enjoy breakfast although it is usually pretty healthy with either two eggs, a tomato and sometimes mushrooms followed by black tea. I don’t have bread. One of my very favourites is a banana mashed with one egg. It makes two smallish pancakes and I usually put some defrosted frozen berries and a little plain Greek yoghurt on top. Yum…. I won’t have that on my FD’s but maybe on the other days sometimes. I feel happy about finding this thread and can feel the support. Very grateful for that.

Sorry to WB and Genie, I got you mixed up re the carpal issue. And welcome to you WB! I haven’t had enough calories today to really fire up the brain πŸ˜‰ – but on a good note, I’ve had a successful FD finally after a few misfires. Had to lock up the chocolates and now sprinting for the bed in case any of them escape and catch me. xx
ps just crossed posts with you Genie, you sound like a creative cook – and very fit!

Oh well done genie and I doubt your dinner would put you over πŸ˜€ fish and salad is a terrific fast day dinner, well done, you’ll be ready for another fast Monday followed by Thursday, then weigh in Friday. We do the weigh in to keep ourselves honest…..with ourselves, for some reason we feel accountable once we “go public” with our weight! πŸ˜‰
Jade you are rockin’ girl ☺️ sleep well xxxx

Wb, sorry I missed your post. Fasting days are not written in stone, and can be any day of your choosing. We do tend to do Monday and Thursday, giving a couple of days break between each one, but if LIFE gets in the way of either day, you can always change it πŸ˜‰ some members will do MONDAY WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY every so often, just to get back on track, or B2B, which can be hard to do, but I suggest to start with, just doing the original 5:2 and you will definitely have success ☺️ xxxx

2nd beautiful day of 2016. OH and I went out 4 3hrs…? It was just beautiful ,now am paying for the day with my fair skin slightly sun kissed. We caught 3 diferent species of fish that were put back in the lake as they were undersize. 5hank heavens have the barrmundie as stand by which wil be served with salad for dinner.
WELCOME WOBBERLYBITZ….. LOL YOU ARE NOT ALONE WE ALL HAVE THEM IN SOME PLACES.
A BIG WELCOME BACK TO MERRYME!!!πŸ™ŒπŸ™†πŸ‘

Short post as we are going to do Twilight fishing off our jetty.
    Catch up later……..GO GALXXXXXXXX

Sounds a perfect day GG πŸ˜€ xxxx

Dead set, Milena! dunno wot ya sed mate, but it waz bleedin’ awesome! hope you had good luck on the market scene. Happy new year to ya’ xx Gyps

Ps all, I have been soo absent have determined to go back and answer all the awesome posts I missed. (still gunna be absent after that, but don’t want to be forgotton) so figger I will just irritate you all in patches. xx Gyps

Hi Fit, I loved your post on our thread’s progress over the year, I joined in January last year and I do remember when you came on board. Our world got a little brighter by the day. So much of our cultures have been shared and enjoyed. May we carry on our story in 2016. Glad you weathered the storm okay. We appear to be missing the circling storms so far. but it is raining heavily on my tin roof tonight. So that’s green grass tomorrow. Could use some of your snow at present. Happy 2016. xxgyps

So Jade, It has been great meeting you. I just love yanks, they have such an extraordinary grasp on life’s adventures and potential. Idealism at it’s best! Their culture is built on dreams of freedom and new age adventure on such a wide and wonderful scale. There is no doubt that Americans lead the way to the Age of Aquarius, if not the invention of it! What would our total world be without Spielberg and Disney? Georgia No doubt has it’s ‘ordinary’ side to local inhabitants, but it is implanted in my mind as a gracious land ever since I saw ‘Gone With The Wind. Hope you stay with us and add another cultural dimension to our thread.

Welcome back Merryme and I see several new comers, , wobblybitz and genigal. Tho we haven’t connected much at this point. I,too, welcome you all to our thread and look forward the journey ahead,. CG will be chuffed to have new chicks to cluck over. Warmer wings or a greater mother hen you won’t find, so this is a good cyber home to pin your hopes of a better bod and good health on. Hope you stay with us through the year. You may all witness the reclamation of Rocky again as I get back on track. I have been sooo naughty over xmas!

Gad CG, I tipped the scales this morning at 86 again! Lemme just go get another Rum ‘n’ coke and wail about my terrible will power! Get your boot ready.

But, no, it’s not so bad, really, I can’t believe I’ve gotten away with only putting on one kilo! And Monday is my deadline for all this decadence. I am still down 8 of the 10 kilos I lost over the year. Nothing else ever delivered those permanent type results and even without a proper fast day for nearly a month, my choices are better on the whole, I find myself pigging out on yummy Christmas stone fruits instead of plum pudding and ice cream. I really don’t enjoy sickly sweet stuff anymore. An excess of ham and chicken is not as bad as chocolate and rum balls. They were not even in the house this Christmas. I did have a pav, loaded with fruit salad and cream, but who’s perfect? I am only feeling so decadent because it’s a minor derailment. Not major defeat. Which is what falling off the wagon on most diet plans becomes. I’m feeling so bloated and slug like it will be a relief to fast come Monday. That’s the difference. So may we savour our last weekend of the yuletide excuse and get stuck into reform on the first Monday of 2016!

Meanwhile I lost my place on the effing post list and it’s five o’clock. SOMEWHERE!

Ah, but wait! Dawg! I remember! You wrote a bloody good post that I can’t seem to find, but I did appreciate it. It’s been a hard year for you and I think we were level pegging on the ups and downs of 10 to 8 kilos. I soo appreciate your hardships! And I didn’t have a sore knee, just get these prima donna moments when I think the whip oughta’ stop cracking when one approaches seventy. There should be some compensating exemption from hard yakka. Free house cleaning! Or at least some free batteries for me magic wand. But, boo hoo. God helps those who help themselves. I’ll be getting back on the exercise bike.
PH, Gad you had a nice holiday by the sea. I seem to have had a very long Christmas this year. It’s been good. I’ve been bad.

SJ, noots and UP, Carry on. I do see you all. May we shrink together in 2016. Cheers! all xxxgyps

    Hi All!
GL – great idea to but new table ware; especially if you can get it in the sales. I have lovely cutlery which we bought years ago and always intended to add to it but when we could finally afford to do so, it has been discontinued!! Bummer πŸ™
Dawg – hope all well in your world.
Merry – thanks for popping by, I have huge admiration for anyone struggling with chronic health issues and still succeeding on 5:2 – well done and pop by again!
Jade – well done on your successful FD – every one counts and brings you closer to your goal. Also well done on outwitting the choccies!! πŸ™‚
PH – lovely memories made and stored now to keep you going if you’re feeling a bit down later in the year; what a precious family and friends you have xx
WB – routine is good for the average week but the beauty of 5:2 is its flexibility so we never need excuses any more as to why we can’t diet…..we are in control of it, not the other way around!
Genie – best of luck with MFP and fitbit. You are obviously very active and it all helps with toning up as you lose weight πŸ™‚
Gyps – you old smooth-talking softie!! You know you brighten all our lives with you poems and observations on life, not to mention tales of moonshine, and biking through the outback….you’re a legend! Give my love and good wishes to the Gawdmother too!!
CG – much calmer and settled here today so might get to take the poor mutt for a walk. Hope all is well and a little cooler in your neck of the woods.
Going out for a meal with OH and my two girls this evening….last chance for the four of us to be together because older girl is working tomorrow and Monday and the younger one is back to college in the UK on Tuesday. Boy, did that time fly!!
Have a great remainder to the weekend everybody! Xxxxx

WALKABOUT CREEK HOTEL. In central west Queensland. This is Crocodile Dundee’s pub where they actually shot the movie.

PS. The Gawdmuther sends her love and best wishes to all for a Happy New Year. She is shedding kilos well on 5:2. looking forward to the WTF reunion. only 8 weeks to go now girls. Eek! I better get on the straight and narrow! Nite all. xxGyps

Ah such great photos, gyps – what fun you have! Wish I could tag along just for a day, bet I couldn’t outrun the crocodiles though. I loved your response to Milena (was her send-off in Scottish…Gaelic (?)), you have quite the way with words yourself. I don’t think of myself as a “yank” – that’s someone from way up north πŸ™‚ – beats hillbilly though.

Fit, the choccies are in the rearview mirror today. My thanks to everyone for the wonderful encouragement here. Nothing to fear except cocktails later. But we’ve all promised a light meal and no dessert, so I plan to behave. I should paint footsteps from the door to my bed for when we come home – that’s when I cozy up to the sweets and I don’t mean OH.

Hey speaking of FitBits, I use MFP’s step-counter – don’t log the food much anymore but I do check my steps. So far today I have…1363?? Better get moving if I want to keep up with Genie — again G, I’m sorry to have misdiagnosed you with carpal tunnel. But whoever does have it (Wobbly?) I recommend the surgery and less housework :).

PH, did I confuse you and Noots on the breakfast thing? Maybe we all skip breakfast. Anyway, chalk it up to age and the beating I took from the lemon martinis the other night. Suffice to say I’ll forever be impressed that you pulled off a FD while vacationing with a crew of friends.

CG glad you got a cool spell, I had no idea it got so hot there. Summers are hot and humid here, so the heat index is often over 100 but not the actual temp. How do your poor sheep tolerate the summers?

Fit do enjoy your weekend with your babies, hug them tight, hope dinner is fun! No worries about chauffeur duty as you’ll all be together.

Before I confuse anyone else here, I’ll go see about adding some steps to my day. The dogs could stand a little exercise as well. Have a lovely weekend all! jade xx
ps I will weigh in maybe next Friday πŸ˜‰

I did my walk yesterday and am feeling a bit stiff today.
JL – I am definitely not fit but aim to be. Walking down to the village is fine but coming back is a killer. We have a steep hill to come up and I do it pretty slowly, especially on these hot days. Yesterday I had to stop twice in shady patches because it was just so hot. My aim is to walk up there at a reasonable pace. We will see.
CG – I have chosen Tuesday and Thursday as our FD’s but my weigh in day has always been Friday so that will be the same.
I find I do need to be accountable to someone so posting my progress here will be good. My OH weighed himself on Friday and he is 108.5. I have recorded his weight in our diary and we will see how that works. He loses weight much faster than I do but I think that is just the case for men.
I am finding MyFitnessPal a bit tricky. I ended the day yesterday with four more strawberries and a couple of tablespoons of Mundella plain yoghurt but when I went to enter it into the food diary I had to pick 250 g of yoghurt as that was the only choice available for that particular yoghurt. There were smaller amounts in the flavoured choices. Is that when I should make a total new entry under the My Food section?

Gyps – what marvellous photos and such varied landscapes….it is truly a land of contrasts. Great to hear that the Gawdmother is doing so well. Yes, the time is flying by and the reunion is getting ever closer. I’m sure you will gather lots of material for a few more of your famous poems and ballads. Can’t wait to read them and to see lots of photos. Most especially, I have to get my act together and get a new laptop or tablet so that I will be able to skype by then. It will be brilliant!
Jade – I had a lovely meal out and didn’t refuse anything…..then I came home and got stuck into the chocolates!! Ooops!! 😳
Genie – that’s great to get out walking and managing a steep hill is terrific exercise…well done! I’m afraid I got stuck into some chores this morning and didn’t get out for a walk after all. If I believed in new year’s resolutions, I’d say a daily walk should be mine – but I’m a lazy git!! πŸ˜†

Hi all. Forgive me for not mentioning you all by name. I’m having some ME time over the next few days. We’ve had our daughter, son in law, granddaughter plus our autistic grandson staying with us for the past
2 1/2 weeks. I love them all dearly but am a bit visitored out. They, plus hubby have gone off to Hobart for a few days. I’m on my own here with Pepper the pooch and LOVING IT. I’ve had a bit if a kitchen tidy up and now plan to do sweet bugger all till Tuesday afternoon. I’ve enough food in the fridge so I don’t need to cook anything. We are going to have our usual morning walks and possibly an afternoon one too. I’m going to read some books. Do some cryptic crosswords , Sudoko and just chill out.
Jade I had a bit of a chuckle about you not being a Yank. On the TV this morning there were a whole mob of gun toting types – may I go as far as calling them rednecks protesting about Obama’s attempt at gun control. We had a gun hand back policy here some 10- 15 yeas ago after a dreadful mass shooting episode. We are all the better for it. I personally have never understood the need to bare arms. Guns have caused so much grief and tragedy. By this you may gather that I’m a big Obama fan.
Enjoy the day all. I plan to.
    XX Doggy
    πŸ’€

Oh I forgot to mention. I’ve now got the Photobucket App on my iPad. So far I’ve managed to upload my photos. Now I need to work out how to download them either on this site or elsewhere. I’ll check out how to do it later.

Dawg – sounds like a pretty ideal prospect to me!! We all love our nearest and dearest but we also love the peace and quiet when they are not around. Make the most of it and enjoy just doing exactly what you want, when you want!! I’ll be on my own later in the month for a week and I’m quite looking forward to it. I’m sure SJ or Gyps will be able to tell you how to get your photos on here; it would be lovely to see you and put a face to the name. XX

    Hi……
I don’t know if this is okay but I thought it was worth the try. I’m doing the 5:2 plan with FD on Mon. and Fri. Okay, great right? but I live in the states as in Florida.
The reason, I would love to join your group is that you all are FANTASTIC! I’ve been on a lot of boards and NO ONE is as supportive as you all are! I can not handle negativity and most boards are full of it? What do you think? Can I possibly join your fantastic group?
I understand, if you all don’t find it in the groups best interests! I’ll still be here supporting and cheering you all on!
    Best wishes,
    Michelle

Bert – of course you can join! We’d be delighted to have you – I’m from Ireland and we also have Jade from the U.S (Georgia). What we have in common is the desire to stay on this way of life (wol) to be the healthiest we can be and to support each other in good times or times of struggle. I’m glad you have seen the positivity and encouragement of this board……we give and receive it in bucketloads all the time! So jump on board; tell us about yourself and ask any questions you want πŸ™‚ Looking forward to getting to know you πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Yoohoo, CG!! Are you up yet or taking a rare lie-in? Missing your usual early morning call to arms πŸ™‚ Hope all ok with you xx

Hi team, very late post for me this morning. I slept like a teenager! Couldn’t believe the time when I woke up. I moved Lexie to the sheep paddock this morning, they are like alians sizing each other up..WTF is that? They see each other through the fence, but now is possible contact time! Quite funny actually πŸ˜ƒ
Gyps your posts are always interesting. Your way with words and view of us is unique. We all get a thrill in seeing your name next to the post πŸ˜‰ stay well dear friend, extract that digit and start moving? Sitting behind the computer writing isn’t helping the exercise πŸ™„ or need for nibbles. Love the pics, as usual, I did think others would have posted a few of their xmas celebrations, so where are they team? We do need to redo our email list too team, the one we have is a tad obsolete now and it’s a great way to welcome our new members πŸ˜ƒ
Fit, I’m glad your safe sweet one, and how lovely still having your girls to enjoy before life starts back to normal.
Doggy, I know your house it still over run with family, but relax my friend, it’s clean dirt, it’s a home, it’s a days work with the vac once they all go then the anti climax hits!😟 but oh the wonderful memories you have to keep you warm in our long cold winter. πŸ˜‰
Genie, on MFP tap on the weight, you get options of how much you want to enter, also on quantity, their are fractions too, so it’s closer to what you want. Just have a play, swear at it, and it will respond!πŸ€— and well done with the walking, no way could I walk to our store, quite an incline into my village and my back screams and no way will I go backwards with that issue. All for ease and gentle ability these days. No need to kill ourselves, there are easier ways!
Jade you’re really on track our little Dixie Bell, each day the fight gets easier, in fact some days you really have to stop and think, when did I last have a chockie! Not often but it does happen ☺️
Back to the pool for me tomorrow team and my water aerobics, plus the strength training (for over 50’s) after that, to help strengthen my back muscles. I’m still on the nerve tablets as the nerves are still moving in my leg. ( still wonder if they are fighting my weight loss, as they are reknown for weight gain) My back is in a peaceful place most of the time so I do my best not to niggle it 😟 but being on a small property, and alone, lifting is often required, so with bent knees , holding it close, if possible, say a prayer and hope I don’t hurt myself. Of course there are times I do it being bloody minded, then pay the price that evening being stiff and tender. So these exercises should help get me to a stronger place.
Up, thank you for the constant monitoring of our email adresses and I hope you found the address you lost,we all appreciate it. Doggy and I are now in contact which is fantastic. With her being down in the “island” don’t want her feeling too isolated πŸ˜ƒ
So into my milky morning coffee then a refreshing shower, quite windy today but mild, so will get my blankets on the line so they are clean and refreshed too, perfect day for washing. Have a lovely positive day team, relax, we are all back to the grind in the morning, xmas is over for another year, and our routines will start again. Remember to plan your menu, have your HB eggs at the ready, miced tea in the fridge and whatever other amunition you need to see you through an easy fast.
Every day may not be good, but see the good in every day! πŸ˜€ xxxxxx

Iced tea that is, oh the typos of not wearing my glasses, ohwell, worth a laugh πŸ˜€

There you are CG!! Our posts crossed!! Sounds like fun with the sheep and Lexie eying each other up as aliens!! I gave my bedroom and ensuite a thorough hoovering and dusting today too as well as doing the bedlinen….nothing like sleeping in a fresh bed to make sweet dreams and I have been sleeping very badly lately. I have overindulged in the choccies this evening and now have a tummy ache….I’ll never learn!! Drinking lots of water now to try and flush them through before they stick to the sides; ha, ha πŸ˜† Do you think that will work?!

Hi Fit, yes I did sleep in, very rare as you know! I sat up late watching cricket, then my bladder had me up three or four times through the night. Even the boys slept late. Must be the cooler weather, we are all getting the well deserved rest and respiteπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

I had a sweet tooth calling last night too Fit, so had a shortbread, (gotta get rid of them, sigh, but oh so yum) and a hot chocolate……it worked, but nothing like a crisp chocky out of the fridge and than taste of heaven melting in the mouth is there? 😟 In my opinion, God DID make a few mistakes, chocky tooooo delish, avacado and mango seed too big πŸ˜• xxxxxxx

Ha, Genie, that is when you need to do the maths! Not my strong point but you select the 250 and try and work out how many spoonfuls are in that and then change the portion number to.2 or something. Hope that makes sense! Anyway, sounds to me with your food choices that you are going to smash this!
I am similar to you with the Fitbit. I can do 10 some days but often around 7. Weekends are often tragic if I am staying home and goofing off reading etc maybe only 3 or 4!
Also I agree with others, at first it seems to cost more because we are eating more protein but I think it works out fine because I personally just don’t have temptation in the house and that saves as well as the fact that your appetite will decrease. I think we all eat less now without even trying!

Welcome Michelle/ Bert, you are most welcome!

Doggie, I am an Obama fan and pro gun control too but Jade may not be! Jade am I right in thinking that Southern states are more likely to be conservative/ republican? Doggie I was living in Texas at the time of Port Arthur and it made the news there which is very unusual. The general consensus was that Bryant would not have been able to kill so many people as someone would have pulled out a gun and shot him. I imagine that is true but I prefer our solution!

Gypsy, so beautiful, I do miss the country. I am glad the Gawdmother is doing well! CG, I used to live in the country in a cool climate, northern tablelands of NSW. Never saw cockys but we did have ducks, therefore rats and had to move the compost heap due to a happy brown snake in residence. Later on we had an enormous black living on what we called “the football field” an area that my husband had flattened out for the kids. We actually left him alone because they eat the eggs of browns. I have lost count of all the snakes we have seen over the years and the ones my husband killed when necessary. I may have previously mentioned that my son was bitten by a brown on xmas eve 3 years ago on the coast so I have plenty of snake experience. It was from living on the land that the boys knew what to do when it happened.
The things I hate most of all are weevils/ pantry moths! We never had them in those days. Have had them twice in the 10 years I have lived in Queensland and took such a lot of work to eliminate! Another way of clearing the pantry of all the carbs even though I even found them in a jar of chili powder!

Fit, I am sure it is sad to see your daughter go back, I have my son for a few more weeks yet.

Merry, that is great! I tend to eat a bit like you, I think. And CG, I never have breakfast any more. I used to make myself eat it because everyone says you should. I am much happier now. I do get that not everyone, such as my daughter can do that. She definitely has a blood sugar issue. She eats breakfast on FD’s and has to eat her main meal around 4 pm.

WobblyBits, yes, I too have some of those! I think it is good that you will fast with us. It helps not to be alone.

Hi to PH, GG, Milena and apologies to the person or persons I have no doubt left out.

Bert a big welcome to you. Of course you can join us. We do try to be supportive of each other and it does work. Feel free to ask any questions. There is invariably someone who will have the answer.
Team I’ve been scrolling through some of your very early posts, starting with yours, Countrygal. ie CG. There afe GG, UP,& Gypsy who are still with us. I wonder what has happened to the many who have dropped off. Did they chuck in the towel, or move to another site? Who knows but I feel it is their loss. – weight wise I wonder though?
Still lounging around and now have decided to finish of ALL of my leftover Xmas chocolates. That way the temptation will all be behind me and no doubt more on me to be got rid of diet wise.

Morning all MIA yesterday..or was it 2 days..It’s all a blur. Our home exchange is coming to an end tomorrow and it’s been fabulous. But looking forward to being back home and getting into routines esp 5:2. Yesterday and today we’re catching up with so many friends for meals that I will sorely need it. The tummy is just not used to it!! Have skipped brekky often to try and keep the weight down. I am up but nothing drastic which is great after so much feeding and feasting.

Wow so many newbies! I’ll try and wrap my head around where you all are when I get back to my computer. So much easier to go back pages than on a mobile! I’ll do my honorable madam secretaree job and post a new list of who/where we all are.

Will start some cleaning of our exchange house this afternoon between meals out. Only 2 of us so not too bad and then sheets/towels tomorrow a final sweep/wipe around and on our way home. We will miss the two cats I must admit!! Have a lovely day all. sj xxxx

Hi Bert, how rude of me, I’m reading back and just saw your post. We would be delighted to have you in our team πŸ˜ƒ plus to have a males’ point of view would be interesting to this hen house of chooks! You will find us all very supportive, down to earth and above all, non judgemental, we have all been there, still have struggles, but have learnt to love and laugh at life. The success of AUSSIE DETERMINATION is because of the team members helping each other believe in ourselves, WE CAN DO IT, and we do! We have all had wonderful success with 5:2 not just our weight losses, and there has been a lot, but our health issues are subsiding, we think we are brainier/smarter too😏 as we are usually clear headed too. We do indulge with a tibble or two, and have learnt to make 5:2 part of our lives, not all of it. We look forward to getting to know you better, we have a few newbies on board so you have all picked the best time to join us. This time next year you will be so surprised in the difference in your body shape and size,, so if you’re ready BRING IT ON! πŸ˜ƒ xxxxxxx

Thank you for allowing me into your group…… A little about me… You know the good stuff. I saw the documentary on the 5:2 diet sometime ago but wasn’t in quite the right frame of mind to give it a go. As the end of 2015 began approaching extremely fast, I then decided I need to give it a go. I did the reading and research, and the day after my 20th wedding anniversary, I officially started. My stats are 41yo, 160lbs okay hold let me adjust that 72.6 kg. I’m not very active but my job has me walking, climbing at times and lifting anywhere from 5 pounds to 50 pounds. When I arrive home, I am tired! I didn’t measure myself, but I have a cute little denim skirt in my closet, that I will use as measurement. Right now, I can only get it up to my middle thigh….. My goal is to lose 25kg or 50 pounds, if I converted it right! No matter how long, no goal date set. We used to live in New York, where I weighed 110 lbs or 55kgs for nearly 10 yrs, then my husband retired from the police force and we moved to Fl. Once we moved it was too hot to be outside, then I took a job in a youth detention center overnights and gained all this weight….. So, here I am….
    Thank you again!
If I haven’t given you all enough info and want to ask me anything please feel free. I believe honesty is the only way to move forward and to be accountable for who we strive to be

Sj, might be time to con O/H into a new kitten? (Give it a loving new home) To me a house is not a home without animals ,although that’s not a surprise to any of you, knowing me πŸ˜‰
Good and bad with the gun debate I guess, needed for snakes, or home protection, put an animal out of its misery, but it also puts them in the wrong hands too easily. Sadly, gone are the days of sleeping with doors or windows unlocked, car keys still left in the car, basically human trust. What has happened to this world when we don’t feel safe in our own homes? Most of us are of an age we can remember the simpler age, the age of love thy neighbour. Progress is not always for the best I guess.
Up, like what you have come across with the “pests” we just have to learn to accept our surrounds, and get on with living πŸ˜‰ xxxxxxx

Bert, forgive my misunderstanding you were male! We will walk this journey with you, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE, you will find in the beginning you will lose a lot of fluid, but it’s a great motivator seeing the scales go down πŸ˜€ this way of life WOL) and way of eating (WOE) is so very doable and easy. You do hit a few brick walls along the way, but we support you, or get the boot out and aim it in the right place to get you back on track ☺️ You learn to eat and cook differently, your tummy shrinks and you don’t need to eat as much, first hint, use a smaller dinner plate, you don’t feel as compelled to fill it as much, you find your sweet tooth doesn’t call as often, rich foods loose their appeal…..you have so much to look forward to, plus all these great new friends you will get to know,so welcome to the AUSSIE DETERMINATION team πŸ˜€ xxx

No problem country gal….. My husband calls me sherbet and it was taken…. So I became Bert!
Right now, I have 50 calories left…. Standing here debating on a small piece of candy. Not even sure if I want the dang thing….. Ugg! To have this type of problem is soooo great!

    Good morning all,
I am a new starter on the 5:2 diet. My first day will be tomorrow. I noticed that no one is using shakes for their fast days. That’s what I thought I would do to keep it under 500 cal (1200 cal for non fasting days). I need to lose around 15 kgs but having said that, if I go by what the published weight is for my height I have to lose nearly 30kgs. I think I would look like a scarecrow then so am sticking to the 15 mark.
That’s about it for my story. Happy New Year to all.

Barb….. I looked into the whole shake thing too. I bought them to have on stand by. Well in case I didn’t feel like doing anything in the kitchen. My shakes are about 190 calories each and would fill me for about 6 hours or so. But then, I get to thinking about the delightful salad, I could make for less calories. Oh, the decisions…… That’s what I love about this wol, as long as you stay with in your calories…… You can do anything! Let me know how it works for you! My next FD is Monday and I’ll do a shake too and we can compare notes! I’m okay with the feeling my body on fast days but if I could avoid that I would be in heaven!
PS….. I’m doing 1300 calories on my non days too. Just to get me started, until my eye balls and brain adjusts to this new life.

Barb, welcome aboard. Our team is growing so much this time of year so you are in good company. As a team we help and support each other, everyday, every step of the way. Log in, at the top of the page to How it works, check your TDEE for daily cal’ intake, and try to log in weekly to the tracker. It gives you incentive to see your measurements and weight decline πŸ˜ƒ and it will happen, I promise, if you stick to fasting and portion control. My Fitness Pal
which you download, will help count your calories to keep you on track.
I agree with those weight recommendations and charts, who the H makes them up. We are all individuals, different genes, backgrounds and builds. Go with what is comfortable for you, where you feel well and healthy πŸ˜€
Please, to all our new members, ask questions, we have an abundant list of hints, I doubt much new will happen that one of our team hasn’t come across personally so there is always help available. 5:2 IS a way of life/eating, there is no such thing as ” bugger it, I’ve blown it now” as with a diet, the next day, you get back on the horse, maybe an extra fast that week, and all is forgiven 😊 it’s all so easy and doable. We are all human and have the odd blow out but you find 5:2 very forgiving, with no harm done.
Enjoy your Sunday team, it’s your day, so don’t follow a path, get out and make some tracks πŸ˜‰ ….xxxxxxx

Bert and Barb, shakes are fine to have, as a quick stand by, but solid foods, healthy foods are so much better for you. Miso soup, is so very low cal, easy and instant, found in all supermarkets, around 24cals! Better than any shake. Also a hard boiled egg, keep a few in the fridge, filling, low cal and a natural! Remember, nothing IS off limit, you can eat what you want, with in your calorie range, even 😜 a few wines if you wish πŸ˜ƒ xxxxx

Best & Countrygal, thanks for the encouragement. I must admit if I didn’t feel so frumpy and plain fat I wouldn’t be doing this. I have been on so many diets but I think I have hit rock bottom and the only way is up from now on. I just want to feel better about myself. I understand what you mean about shakes and I for one have always said I need something to “eat” not drink and maybe that is still the case but until I understand what I need to prepare without all the measuring and weighing (which has been the reason I didn’t succeed before) I will try the shakes on my FD. Again thanks for the encouragement, it’s great to not feel you are in your own. AND a glass of wine occasionally sounds wonderful 😬😬

Barb, there is no weighing,in a simple omelette,a salad,a bowl of home made soup! Don’t be a defeatist YOU CAN DO THIS πŸ˜€ we are here to help you. Boil up a couple of eggs NOW, simple right? Use one if the hunger hit, then wait, you will see,you are not hungry. Hunger is often thirst, have a glass of water, then wait! Get one of those ready made salads at the local supermarket, a punnet of cherry tomatoes, easy right? Thaw a chicken breast, easy right! There’s dinner, open some tuna, or buy a fresh piece of fish, or the Birds Eye steamed fish in the freezer section. (Cals already calculated on the pack)There’s tomorrows first fast day dinner with your salad…easy?
Lunch? Salad with your egg? A tin of tuna? Think salad this time of year, or have a piece of fruit? An apple will not hurt you, straight out of the fridge for that crunch! πŸ˜€ C’mon, YOU CAN DO THIS xxxxxx

Oh by ready made salads I mean in the veggie section too, not the deli, all covered in mayo! xxxx
