  • Well said girls, we have shown our compassion and understanding in so many ways and above all our continued support and friendship, may it continue for many years to come, friends are so very pressious and it’s a miricle we found each other, but like all gardens it needs water, and we have “watered ” it with our loyalty πŸ˜€ and continued daily contact πŸ˜‰ xxxxxx

    Hi All!!
    It’s NYE morning for me of course, but you are all (apart from Jade) probably starting your celebrations with a little tipple or two and won’t be logging on here. No matter – you will get to read this at some stage so here’s wishing you all the very best for 2016 in the things that matter – family, friends and health of mind, body and soul. I looked back at the very first pages of this thread last night to see when I had started and I see my first one was on the 6th of February but I had written a few posts before that starting on the 6th of January on other threads. It was a lonely start until CG jumped in and rescued me with her insightful words and caring encouragement and as they say; the rest is history. It is interesting to see the names of those who were very familiar to me at the start but who have dropped off along the way; most without explanation and I wonder how things worked out for them. I also see the names of those who are still here; the old faithfuls and I thank you most sincerely for sticking with this thread and making it the supportive, compassionate, hilarious, warm and loving place that it is today. I also see the newer names who have been loyal and regular posters since joining in here and they have added richness and variety as well. I think we were the first thread to add photos and what a brave and wonderful thing that has been. Not only that, but there is now a WTF reunion to come and hopefully some skyping, where we can connect on an even more personal level…..not to mention the underlying support of emails when posting here might not have been appropriate. A huge thank you to all those who have made those extra layers of communication work…..you know who you are!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We’ve had songs and poems, funny stories and tears, tales of battle and survival…..all touching and inspiring. So, here’s to more of the same for 2016 and even more closeness and friendship. I count my blessings every day when I log on here…..so have a wonderful evening and know that I am raising a glass to you all (even though I’m fasting!!) at midnight and I will be weighing in tomorrow to get myself on the right path again and set the tone for the year ahead. Well done all you brilliant ADers; I hope to meet you all some day but until then feel my arms around you for the biggest, warmest Irish hug {{{{{{{{{{ }}}}}}}}}}

Fit, what a beautiful post, it’s heart warming πŸ˜ƒ It’s nearlly 10:30 and I’m close to bed, I’m watching my son’s favourite band in concert U2, so you can take a bough too, for the Irish. It’s the concert in Paris. Every happiness and joy to you for 2016 and success with 5:2 will be yours, I know πŸ˜‰ Happy New Year to you, no celebrations my end, the heat knocks me so bed not too far off. If you have something planned, enjoy! I’m having a shortbread whilst typing this with an iced coffee, so fast is blown! Oh well, tomorrow is a new year, for us all, and back to the grind of being good, cautious, but in control ☺️ above everything, WE CAN DO IT so BRING IT ON…. πŸ˜ƒ xxxxxxx

Hi all. Wishing everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR.. it is 11.24 pm in Australia and this is the closest I will get to midnight. Have had a wonderful night with friends but could not last the distance.. Hope 2016 is the best year ever for us all. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

    Happy new year Fit.

I cannot wait 4 the reunion Lous sent me an sms as did our loved FATBLUSTER.

I WISH YOU ALL LOVE FOR 2016 . …..GO GAL XXX

Hear hear, Fit – what a rousing and lovely start to my day! Doggy, excellent recap of topics the group has shared over the past year – seems there is nothing off limits πŸ™‚ and CG you have such a lyrical way with words, it’s a colorful garden you’ve planted and tended here. I’m honored to be included, what a generous bunch you all are. And sounds as though you could give me a tour of my own country. I feel rather provincial having barely made it to Europe. I got online last night after realizing I had so little clue of Australian politics – a bit different from ours, perhaps more can get done your way. And no orangutans on heads!

Up, thank you for the Oprah quote, much truth there – congrats to your daughter on the new job! Btw, I laughed and got a little dizzy trying to figure out where you were going on holiday – south west something at mid north something in new south wales, I’d end up in the ocean for sure.

SJ, strolling along the wharf on New Year’s Eve sounds beautiful – I hope dinner was as well. Your pumpkin gorgonzola pasta of the previous night sounded divine!

GG and PH, you’ve both had quite a crew with you! How grand – and GG, to sing your dad’s songs made me tear up a little. Lost mine early on but have such fond memories.

Ah, many ups and downs here and around the world, right? I’ll sweep up the detritus of 2015 for everyone, as I’m sitting still in the morning of NYEve, contemplating a FD but CG like you may toss in a shortbread later πŸ™‚ was into the chocolate pecans last night, hmmm need one of those special kicks up the tush to start the new year maybe. Kudos to all for your 5:2 successes this past year and even bigger kudos for nurturing your friendships. May we all have good health and happiness in the coming year and whatever else be able to share a good belly laugh with good friends! Looking forward to an interesting 2016. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ jade xxxxx

Hallooo the mob! Happy NEW YEAR! It’s 1.20 am 1.1.2016! Have just returned from the local pub party and a merry time with a fair percentage of the population. Love living in a small town where everybody hugs their neighbours! Hope you are all feeling equally warmed by family and friends. sorry I am so missing. will try to catch up soon. Thank God for you all. One more big dinner to cook tomorrow and then back to rations and fasting! Such a nice Christmas I’ve had. Nite all xxx gyps.

Happy Hogmanay and Happy New Year!!!

Hope you are all a load of losers in 2016!!!!!!

I am off to bed at 9 pm so won’t be seeing in the bells. Though we are leaving at about 4.30 am so will probably see lots of revellers along the roads – if the neighbours let us get to sleep!!

Fridge empty – wine put away until Valentine’s Day and a wee glass of martini before bed, sooo looking forward to travelling the road with you all in 2016, just have to lose the 5 or 6 kilos which seems to have appeared but losing already. And rather pleased to be missing the traditional steak pie on New Year’s day, but hoping to make lots of money this weekend!!

So pleased to have found you all and that you have made me an honarary Aussie! Fit – hope to see you for the reunion, and hopefully can skipe the gathering!

Guid New Year and mony may ye see.

May ye ne’er want a frien’ or a dram to gie him.

When we’re gaun up the hill of fortune, may we ne’er meet a frien’ comin’ doun!

    Bliadhna mhath ΓΉr!!!

Good morning team, for the first day of 2016, good evening Fit and Jade, I do hope you are both enjoying seeing the New Year in πŸ˜ƒ
We have a glorious morning here, the rooster next door is letting the workd know he is happy, it’s 25 and predicting 32 ( on my weather app) so a lot easier to handle πŸ˜€ (the Fox weather says 24 top today, so we’ll see) there isn’t a breath of wind outside, the cattle is grazing and the world, well my little piece of it, is at peace πŸ˜€
Unsure what my weight is as yet for the Friday weigh in, will weigh later, but not fasting now until Monday to start the year off back to normal and into my routine ☺️ which is what keeps us all on track, right?
Have a lovely day team, we have a healthy future ahead in this year, we have cherished “new” friendships to nurture and we have a reunion to look forward to. It will be wonderful to put my arms around those of you who are coming, I’m teary with excitement at the thought of it.
Stay safe team, Fit I do hope the storms on your side of the world have eased, and if you are still on holidays, do enjoy team, it’s a long year ahead so don’t sweat the small stuff, embrace life with gusto our 5:2 will keep us on the straight and narrow (only two days a week) and our AUSSIE DETERMINATION will keep us winning all challenges life has on offer ☺️ xxxxxx

What a dilemma! Ch;9 says top of 27, Fox weather says 24, my app on my Ipad says 32? not that any of it matters, but it’s like all news stories! We hear three different ages of people involved in accidents too, one would think they had a central agency where they get their info from, are they typos? It’s true, you should never really believe what we see in the media…☺️xxxxxx

Okay team my first weigh in for 2016 is 74.6k….down from 100k, very happy of course, now to lose another 4-5 or maintain. I’m very comfortable sitting where I am but want wriggle room, so think I will aim for 68-69k, BRING IT ON, we love a challenge at AUSSIE DETERMINATION πŸ˜€ xxxxx

I wonder if I might join this group/thread. I am just at the beginning of my journey to health and fitness. An Aussie in Victoria, overweight and unfit! I am finding it very hard to be motivated without having someone to be accountable to. Both my husband and I want to do this, me a little more so than him I think. I am 63, 5’1″ or 155 kgs and this morning weighed in at 73.2 kg.
Just caught myself giving a big sigh, where do I start!!!!
I retired from full time work in December 2014, we moved to Victoria in February 2015. You think I would have more time to exercise but it is the reverse for me. I used to walk every morning and then head off to work. Here I probably walk three times a week, sometimes four but it is not enough. I go through moments of determination, saying I will do this, I will do that but never seem to get started.
I want to be healthy, fit, energetic and enjoy life!!!!!

Geniegal you are more than welcome to join us. We will take you by the hand and walk this incredible journey with you. YOU ARE NEVER ALONE with us, we will support and encourage you. We have a wonderful team of very helpful people, mainly ladies at the moment, but all with great advise and will answer any questions which arise. Have you read the book yet? Log in at the top of the page invthe How it works area, work out your TDEE so you know how many cals you can have each day. Download My Fitness Pal, which calculates the cals in all your food so making it easy. Welcome aboard genie, we would love to have you as part of our team. What a wonderful way to start 2016 HAPPY NEW YEAR πŸ€— xx

Thank you Countrygal. I have read the book, watched the video and borrowed the FD Recipe Book from the library. I have this open as I type. I have just nipped over and done the BMI/TDEE calculation. I will look at getting My Fitness Pal too. Our diet is not too bad but I suppose lots of people say that. Problem is we eat fairly healthy food but add in a cake or two now and again.
just as an aside – I have ticked the Notify me of replies by email but do not seem to be getting them so having to keep checking if any replies posted.

WOW! WhT a lot of beautiful posts to read. Put my little one to shame I am here to rectify that. What wonderful way to start the new year. Lying in bed , hearing friends greet each other outside the van, talking to OH ,who has a little hangover, and reading all the wonderful heartwarming posts on this wonderful thread.
How blessed we are to have the support of each other. The support of all of you has given me the willpower no confidence to know I can finally manage my weight. The leadership by CG is so special and each and every one of you have your own special place in the encouragement role. There is always someone on line to pick you up when you are down and give you positive reinforcement when you achieve your personal goal..like completing a fast day. What a SPECIAL BAND OF MERRY LADIES , WHO HELP EACH OTHER LOSE THE EXCESS KGS. AND GIVE US THE POWER TO KEEP THEM WHERE THEY BELONG OVER THE LONG TERM. πŸ˜‡πŸ€—πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‹πŸ˜„πŸ˜…πŸ˜πŸ˜˜πŸ€”πŸ˜πŸ€’πŸ˜°πŸ€•πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜΄

Welcome geniegal, whom I will furthermore refer to as geni..you could not join a better thread. You will love the encouragement provided and the practical help.

Jade. Your posts are very enjoyable and look forward to getting to know you even more over the coming year.

Gyps. Lovely to hear from you ..love the sound of your country town NYE bash at the Pub..very special.

Milena. Just as I started posting to you the bagpipes started playing the the parade that comes through the park for the sports/fun day that is held on the oval in the middle of the park. So have to leave it there folks and go join the party…talk to you all later.

    Hi All!
I too am having a quiet NYE. Younger daughter is gone to meet up with pals in the local village and might need to be collected so OH and I staying sober! Just one toast to 2016 and I’ll be keeping you all in my thoughts and close to my heart. I did another good fast today so I’m hoping the scales will be kind to me in the morning.
Well done CG on being first to weigh in with results….our fearless leader!! Your loss for 2015 is truly remarkable – so here’s to losing the next few kg to reach your goal xx Hoping all stays well in your little paradise with all your furry friends πŸ™‚
GG – thanks for the lovely wishes. I was thinking of you and your dad over the last week and I’m so happy to hear you got to sing his songs with your loved ones. What a wonderful way to remember him xx Wishing you every blessing for the year ahead.
PH – you did well to last until that time, considering all the work you have been doing over the last few weeks. All the best to you and yours.
Gyps – somehow I knew it would be you rolling home from the pub at a disgraceful hour!! πŸ˜‰ Very Irish that!! Best of luck and health to you and the leprechaun in 2016.
Jade – you fit in so well here that it’s like you’ve been here forever. Looking forward to getting to know you better. Have a wonderful new year xx
Milena – glad to hear that you survived all that awful weather. What part of Scotland did you say you’re from? I understood your scots English and even the Gaelic…it’s very like Irish. Best of luck at the fairs and for 2016 πŸ™‚
Geniegal – big welcome to you on this great day to start a new way of life! You have come to the best possible place for support and encouragement and I wish you every success with 5:2 and in general for the coming year.
Thinking of you SJ, UP, Noots, Dawg and all the others whose paths we have crossed this year. Every blessing and good fortune on you all for the coming year. Xxxx

Genie, you are doing all the right thigns, well done. Unfortunately, we ALL thought we had a healthy diet before 5:2 but you will find with the two fasts a week, your appitie changes as do your taste buds. Sweets don’t hold the same interest or rich foods, you just don’t seem to be able to tollerate them any more. You learn to look at food differently. One of the best pieces of advise I can give you is, go without breakfast. Your system with learn to do it. Just start your day with a milky tea or coffee, and don’t “break the fast” until late morning early arvo with lunch 😊 some mornings, if I find the worms biting, I’ll hold off till around 11:00ish and have a piece of fruit. We also find a hard boiled egg a life saver. Protein, low cal and filling! Most of us use this as our savour on fast days to carry us through the mid-late arvo hungers 😊. As you go along, please ask questions, there are so many hints we can help you with. DON’T GIVE UP, turn to us when times are tough, and they do happen, even to seasoned ADers,we have a boot/foot at the ready to kick you in the A to get you back on track πŸ˜„ you CAN do this, so get to know the team, tell us about yourself, welcome to our family πŸ˜‰ xxxxxxx

Fit so lovely to hear from you, I hope your daughter rings at a reasonable hour and doesn’t keep you waiting till the wee hours of the morning to go and pick her up πŸ™ƒ Happy New Year lovely lady 😌 xxxxxx

Just had my one peach schnapps and toasted ye all!! Watching Jools Holland, musician in the UK, who holds the best new year’s bash every year on the TV called a hootenanny ( Milena can probably explain what that term mean, I think it’s Scottish! ). Love to all xxxx

    Happy new year team.
A big welcome to you Genie. As otherw have already said, you will find us to be a very supportive and friendly bunch. If you have any queries that are not available in the book one of us may well have the answer. Surprising to me, my weight is still 70. I’d estimated that I’d put on some since I’ve not fasted for a few weeks. I may have to get another family member to check their weight on the scales to see if they are accurate.
It’s a cooler morning here today for which I’m grateful. I don’t really like the hot weather. The new year celebrations went off very quietly in our house as we all went to bed early. I heard the odd fireworks at midnight plus the dogs barking but nothing untoward.
Cheers all and enjoy the day or night wherever you happen to be.

Welcome GENIE…. YOU HAVE EVERY SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THIS AWESOME GROUP. I HOPE THAT YOU ENJOY OUR THREAD.
MY WEIGH IN THIS MORNING IS…….YOU GUSSED IT…..75KGS. ONCE AGAIN NO MOVEMENT IN EITHER DIRECTION ON THE SCALES.THIS MUST BE MY TRUE WEIGHT.
WITH MY AUSSIE DETERMINATION AND A POSITIVE ATTITUDE TO THIS WOL AND WOE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
HOW DID YOU ALL WAKE TO THIS NEW DAY OF 2016?No headaches I hope.
FIT AND MELENA BOTH HAVE A BRILLIANT START TO 2016.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
CG,PH,SJ,GYPS,UP,JADE,KT DAWG ,KATEY ENJOY THE DAY………LOVE…. GO GALXXXX

Ooooo we started at the pub early today, before it even got dark – OH’s idea, go for happy hour and miss the crazies – and now we ARE the crazies, back at home nipping the brandy and it’s not even 9 p.m.! I won’t even be able to crawl onto the scale tomorrow, assuming I can find it. I need one of those things they pull cattle onto at the sale barns.
Geni hi and welcome from the person farthest away from Australia yet somehow welcomed by this bunch. Wonderful that you and your husband are committed to better health. You will love this group and the 5:2 plan, stick with it and you’ll feel better and better. I am short also (and getting shorter by the minute), so I know the challenges. My TDEE is pathetically low and no doubt I blasted past it with the lemon drop martinis quite some time ago. πŸ™‚ But I will be back in the saddle next week.
CG good heavens you are down to 74 from 100 kg?! How wonderful, and big gigantic congrats on that. Just awesome.
Fit, it is just New Year’s there right? Happy New Year! I hope your chauffeur services aren’t needed. Congrats on a FD, did I read that right? Goodness you are strong.
PH hope you enjoyed the bagpipes! If your husband has a hangover remedy, please pass it along as I will be needing it soon. Perhaps Gyps as well. πŸ™‚
Cheers to everyone, must rejoin OH now who is quoting something off the internet about planets (?) that I must try to understand. jade xx

Hi Jade – sounds like you’re seeing in the new year in style! It’s 1.30am here and I’m not sleep yet even though I didn’t sleep so well last night. Still waiting to see if my D needs a lift home; I’d say it will be nearly impossible to get a taxi tonight. Of course, there’s a heavy frost out now so the roads will be slippery after all the rain….honestly, this is the freakiest weather ever!!
GG and Dawg – holding steady is still great, especially at this time of the year…so well done!!

Happy New Year all and may 2016 be a great year for us all in the 5:2 department. I can hear the elevator saying Going down…down…down!!! For some of us its a lot to lose for others it’s the last 2 3 4 or 5+ kilos. We’ll work on it together.
Had a quiet NYE down on the wharf but was lovely. We were worried about groups of rowdy yobos down there but apparently they all go up to Perth to the big bashes. Left the families and the oldies there so was a lovely atmosphere. Into bed early after sharing a bottle of wine. Didn’t hear anything after that.

Welcome Jade and welcome Genie. Lovely to have you join us. You’re in for an exciting ride with us lot! Have a great first day of 2016 and do something you love! I’ve done my first one….had a skinny dip in our little pool that’s well hidden!! Was feeezing but was just what I needed after too many wines. Happy New Year to CG Gyps PH GG Dawg UP Milena Fit & anyone I’ve missed as can’t turn the page! SJ xxxx
An exciting wonderful year ahead gang and an exciting reunion coming up YEAH!!!! Can’t wait.

    Wow, so many long posts!

Happy New Year everyone and welcome Genie, your husband may be more enthusiastic when he gets the results which he will!

    CG, what great results!

I am hopeless at remembering what everyone said so forgive me for not naming everyone but I do remember a couple.

Jade, I guess it did sound funny, I hadn’t though about that!

DOGGIE, no email from you and I checked my spam. Can you try again?

I agree with everything everybody has said and thanks to all who wrote such long positive posts!

Also thanks to everybody for the support throughout the year. I am roughly 11 kilos less than this time last year and if I can be 5 kilos less next new years day, I will be over the moon. 2016? Bring it on!
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx πŸ™‚

Hi all and welcome Genie. Sadly my weight was back up to 63 kg this morning BUT it has made me even more determined to stick to 5:2 and get below 60 kg as my first goal for 2016. Having a fd as usual on a Friday even though it’s new year’s day! No breakfast, just peppermint tea then milky coffee until a light lunch at 12, works best for me. Been busy tidying the house as my son and family are visiting on Monday. Rain forecast! OH is busy putting together a flat pack bathroom vanity unit we bought yesterday. It’s a challenge but he’s doing well. I can’t help much with my sore thumb but the cast is due to come off on the 6th so I’m hoping for a big improvement in strength after that. Lots more physio needed, I suspect.
Am going to paint my nails this afternoon. It helps to pass the time on a fd and keeps me out of the pantry!
Love to all as we start 2016. X

I’m new to the forum and to the fasting diet and hope the Aussie Determination thread can help give me that ‘boot in the bum’ every now and then.
A bit about me… I’m a 33 year old female living in the Central Tablelands of NSW and despite trying to eat right and walking a lot more than I did 6 months ago (almost 3km to work 4 days a week) I haven’t budged the spare tyre that’s sitting around my waist. At roughly 165cm and hovering between 86 and 89kg I need to get rid of at least 15kg but would love to get down into the 60’s again.
Last Saturday I did my first ever fast day and was suppose to do yesterday but made kind of fell off the wagon so day #2, take 2 is today and so far so good… wakame miso soup with an egg was lunch and keeping hydrated with a bit of lemon and lime juice in my water.

Happy New Year to all and hope there’s not many sore heads after last night!!

Up I don t know WTF is going on with my emails to you. ! I’m thinking some gremlin in the works.
    My address is

    gratjios@icloud.com.

I don’t think we have any pervs, yobs, or other low life on our site to hassle me. If they do I’ll get a spell from Gypsy to ward them off.
Welcome Toady. You are sure to become known as toad. Reminds me of The Wind in the Willows. Really cute name. Stick with us and we’ll be here to guide you.
Up you’ve done really well. It’s fantastic. Just remember team when you are feeling a bit low and the bloody scales just seem to stick in one place. If you’ve only lost 5 kilos say. Go get a 5 kilo bag of rice or whatever and pick it up. It is bulky and heavy. Losing that amount of weight is a great achievement. As our team leader so often says. This is not a sprint it’s a marathon and we are in it for the long haul.
Our nice cool day has turned ot to be hot and sticky. Possibly a thunderstorm in the offing. Hopefully it will bring some rain but we do not need the lightening.
SJ I know you enjoy a good read. I was given ” “The eye of the sheep” by Sofie Laguna. It won the 2015 Miles Franklkn award. It’s very poignant and sad but a very good read and so well written.
    XX Doggy

Hi all, we do have some dedicated 5.2ers. Fasting on New Years Day. Well done for attempting it and home you succeed. The sports day was good. Watching all the age races for the littlies is always a hoot. Home for lunch wi O.H before he headed off home and am now having a nana rest. Very hot here today so lying Between two fans is just the place to be at the moment.
Now to get back to answering the rest of the exciting posts.

Another new member today. Welcome Toady. It is good to have a younger person on the thread. If you can manage to stick to this way of life from age 33 you will have your weight sorted. I wish it had been around for me at that time of my life. You will find fast days get easier the more you do them and it is essential to plan your food the day before so that you are not standing at the fridge wondering what you are going to eat. Most of us rely on a couple of Hard Boiled Eggs for protien. And I find that munching on vegetables out of the fridge in the afternoon. in this weather very refreshing. Especially cold cucumbers. Good luck with your journey.

Noots. Don’t be disheartened . You have been handicapped with your plaster and it can’t have been easy for you. 63 is a great starting point for 2016.. You will get to your goal this year..πŸ†πŸ†

UP 11 kilos is great for a year. And you do look smashing.. You have to only achieve half as much this year but I imagine it will take just about the same amount of effort. You will do this!! No need to wish you luck as you have willpower😚😚

FIT. Well done on another good fast. You have turned the page into 2016 running at full steam. And what a lovely thing to do keeping sober so you can get your D from a party if needed. Brings back memorie for me

SJ. Wow skinny dipping to start off the new year..how great to start with so much daring . Keep it up and you will have a much better year this year than the last. Love It!! πŸ‘πŸŒΉ

GG. No movement is good movement this time of year. Well done. I have to wait till next Friday to get on the scales after I have had two good fasts. I’m hoping for no movement or at least that I stay under 100kgs.
    75 is awesome!!πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡β˜ΊοΈβ˜ΊοΈ

Doggy. What a great result. Staying at 70kgs with family staying for a few weeks is to be saluted..πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘yeah!!!

Eyes getting heavy. Might just turn this nana rest into a full blown nana nap. Enjoy the rest of the day gang..

Doggy like you I doubt we have any yobbos but we never know whose luriking. I have emailed you, so you can contact the powers that be and ask them to remove your address from the site. They are very obliging πŸ˜€
Everyone seems to have not only seen the new year in a safe way but weight wise, you are all to be congratulated. Hold you heads high team, what a fantastic effort by you all. Maintaining GG is harder than you think so congrats in not gaining πŸ˜ƒ
Toady, welcome aboard. That’s two newbies in one day, so it’s a great starting point for you both. We don’t stick to 5:2 strictly as the subject here as you may have noticed. We have all become wonderful cyber mates, and sypport and rely on each other with so much of lifes problems πŸ˜‰ We discuss things effecting both us and the world. 5:2 is not just to lose weight but it keeps the brain active too. (We help see to that) we all love a good laugh and nothing is off limit! YWe are about healthy eating, but yes we have a wine or me a whisky now and again, we do fall off the wagon too but have all managed to be happy with what our scales and tape measure tells us. On saying that, measure yourself too, often the scales don’t move but the inches do. You will notice your body changing shape, your clothes begin to get loose ☺️ so you have so much to look forward to. Welcome to the team.
Up what a fantastic result for you, no wonder your last lot of pics showed such a vast improvement, plus you were living o/s so well done. πŸ˜‰ It couldn’t have been easy for you in a strange place, but obviously your AUSSIE DETERMINATION pulled you through 😌
I’ve just poured an icy tomato juice then it will be getting close to feeding Lexie. It’s reading 44 on my deck and take it from me, it’s damned hot out there!
PH, you sound to be in the right place in the heat too, between two fans having a nap, I’ve not long had my nanny nap. I don’t feel lazy having them, actually the house stays tidier cause I’m not making another mess and needing to clear up after myself, also I’m away from the kitchen. πŸ™„ xxxxx

    Hi All!
Very late getting to post today between OH having computer and then doing chores that couldn’t be put off. So….confession time! On Christmas Eve, I weighed 64.8kg – not my lowest but not too bad. Last Tuesday morning I was 69.1kg after complete and total piggery over the few days of Christmas. Today after two good fasts I’m 65.9kg….so it’s a good result and I’m more determined than ever to get back to my lowest and stay there.
SJ – skinny dipping?!! Oohh la la!! How daring and brilliant!!
Up – that’s a tremendous loss for the year, especially as you were abroad for a long time….amazing!! You have proven that 5:2 is so adaptable and we don’t have to give up on it even when on holidays or away from home…woohoo!! πŸ™‚
Noots – don’t despair; you will get there – you have been hampered by your thumb but soon you will be able to prepare the food you want and you will get into the 5:2 routine again.
Dawg – it’s good to remind us that this is a marathon and not a sprint……ups and downs will occur; especially when there are celebrations and special events – we can’t be the sour-faced party poopers; we just have to work around those events and keep fasting when we can and things will balance out.
Toady – very glad to welcome you here; you have received lots of good advice so far. Keep asking the questions and we will answer as best we can. There’s usually at least one of us who has gone through the same thing, no matter what it might be. You couldn’t meet a nicer gang of supportive, wise and witty gals!!
CG – sounds like another very hot one for you; I don’t know how you cope with it. We had a heavy frost overnight and now we are back to wind and rain…not as severe as before, but the whole country is saturated and there is nowhere for the water to go anymore. Official figures show it has been the wettest December since records began!
PH – hope you’re staying rested and cool and looking after yourself xx
Hope you are all in a good positive place today and not suffering too much from hangovers!! πŸ˜‰ I’m feeling good about this wol and I know I’m back in control. Yes, I went completely overboard but you know what? The sky didn’t fall and if this is the worst; then I can handle this and be back within my comfortable range in about four fasts. Woohoo!! Loving 5:2 and all the great support here on the AD thread! πŸ™‚

Fit I’m so pleased for you, didn’t I tell you it was probably fluid? You could not possibly gain fat in that short time! A good clean out of food in transit and things get back to normal pretty quickly πŸ˜‰ At the time all that is visible are dark clouds and dispair, (and disbelief) but our magic fasts have proven time and time again how wonderfully they work. 😊 I think too with all of us, we did get complacent and it takes a scare to get us back on track, to really focus and to stick rigidly to our fast. I for one still have xmas goodies still in the fridge and pantry, but hope to be cautious in doling them out bit by bit, try to get used to having these extras available and basically ignoring them being there. We have all found it best not to have temptation in the house, but I have realised, they don’t hold the same ” magnet” as they once did. πŸ˜ƒ My sweet tooth and appitite is not what it used to be, fortunately, and if the ocassional pigout happens, as it will, our system is so used to fasting now, that we get back, or around our base weight soon enough. Mind you, it will take a bit longer to lose the extra few K’s we want, but we never really gain in the short term πŸ˜‰ This WOL -WOE. Has never let us down, and again, it is only part, a big part, but not all our life! It blends so well with our life style, our bodies have reacted well with appreciation, and we are all feeling so grateful to have found this magic potion 😊. It is not the “norm” to be totally off target these days, we have learnt too much.
Have a lovely evening Fit, I just woke, too early to be up, so back to bed for an hour or two. Our poor countries are copping extreem weather but nature takes care of it’s own, let’s just hope this get back to reasonable before too long. We had a mild cool change come through late arvo which was very refreshing and appreciated πŸ˜ƒ so I hope the sun starts to shine over your way to absorb some of that water and give it time to flow out to sea……😟 xxxxxxx

Good morning Aussies and evening to you, Fit – I’m ridiculously happy to see that all must be well in Ireland with your daughter. I worry awfully in the wee hours when I’m on mom duty like that. You’re holding the line on those kgs, fantastic!
Hi Toady, love your name and it’s lovely to meet you! Pardon my tipsy ramblings of yesterday, I’m actually safe to talk to. I’ve been on 5:2 since last March but just recently joined in here.
Well, confession time, I have this tiny problem with sugar, exacerbated by alcohol, so why not end the year with a bang and have martinis, buffalo wings, fruitcake, cadbury’s (fruit and nut, so some health in there?), chocolate nuts (oops), IRISH WHISKEY CHOCOLATE (eek), and diet coke, make that 3 diet cokes. I was sucking that all down like a drainpipe.
I take solace in being the example that you can all feel better than – see, I can find a bright side :).
UP, fantastic 2015 loss for you, I’m there also wanting to drop a few more kg but you do look great, and what a wonderful feeling.
Noots, you are not far away from your goal, and I gather you’ve had a cast? Hope your FD went as planned and that you have a shiny new manicure.
GG you are holding your own, which is more than I can say!
PH and CG sounds very hot where you are, though I have to use a converter for centigrade – hmm 44 = whoa, 111? You might just sweat off any remaining weight. Please stay hydrated! I should talk, still nursing coffee at 2 p.m.
Doggy excellent advice about picking up a 5kg sack and remembering our victories. Every time I bring in the cat litter, I’m happy to think my knees are not burdened with extra weight.
SJ love the skinny dipping story, what a way to ring in the new year, with a brisk swim. Reminds me of characters in a book I’m reading, full of strong and confident women.
Milena I have heard of hogmanay, hope yours was good! Good luck with your sales and safe travels to you.
Gypsy, do you have a hangover cure or are you impervious? I have read you have magic potions, I could use some magic. Glad you had a lovely time on NY Eve.
More coffee for me for now – trying to be a team player, hope I didn’t miss anyone if so I plead temp insanity – Happy new year to all xxx

CG – as usual, you speak nothing but wisdom! No more doubt or despair for me!! I’m sure there will be lots more occasions when I slip up or don’t feel I have the self-discipline to stay on or get back on the horse but that’s when I’ll call on my aussie determination and you guys to kick me in the appropriate place and get me back on track!! Life would be very boring if I suddenly found this all too easy!! πŸ™‚ Hope you get back to sleep for another little nap xx
Jade – you are a pet to worry about my D; she stayed with a friend in the village when she was unable to get a taxi and so I didn’t have to go in the frost!! Thank you for having such a big heart. As for your sugar binge; been there myself over the Christmas and felt decidedly unwell but still couldn’t stop. Then saw the scales and felt even worse – but somehow the messages of support and common sense here got to me and I felt strong enough to get back in control with even more determination than ever. So hang on in there and you will get be back on track in no time.
Come on gang – WE CAN DO THIS!!

Well it’s 6:00am and the birds in my garden are so excited about the cooler weather they are singing and chatting at the top of their little voices, so I’m up for the day! A nanny nap no doubt in the arvo, but coffee now and some early chores.
As they say Jade, at least you know you will feel better as the day goes on πŸ˜€ if a lesson is learnt then well done, but we keep trying to show we can still do it, and the body fights us and says no you can’t 😏
Another star, Natalie Cole dies at 65, far too young!
Well will start my day, enjoy what ever your doing, we have rain predicted today and mid 20’s so let’s hope they got it right. xxxxxx

Hi all! I am a newbie to the forum, and thought it may help with motivation to achieve long term weight loss and weight control more importantly. I am 163cm and 83 kg . Currently size 14 /16. Have to have surgery in February for carpal tunnel and doctor said I need to lose weight. I can lose weight then it creeps back on and a little more cos once I’m piggin out for a few days I can’t regain control. It may take me weeks! Just found out this is the reason I reckon I can’t control; my weight!. Any one else like this?
How many of you weigh and measure yourselves?

Wobblyblitz, you are more than welcome to join our team. It’s a great way to start the new year off on the right foot. Most of us have our weigh in day Friday after two days fasting, Monday and Thursday. We measure….when we think about it. Our clothes seem to tell us we have lost or gain! I do tend to weigh each morning before my shower, just to stay on track but there are times it does become obsessive so the scales go under the bed for a week or two, they can get depressing! You will find being part of our team certainly helps you stay on track. We encourage and support you every step of the way. We get a boot out when needed πŸ˜€ and we are all here to help each other. You will find once sticking to regular fasting, those pigouts will become less and less. Your body (and mind) doesn’t need/want them ☺️ you tend to think differently about food and what you need and how much of it. Portion control is what keeps us all on track. Meal sizes shrink, we don’t need to have huge meals any longer. Are you in Australia, not that it matters, just that you are up very early, like me πŸ˜‰ have a lovely day and welcome aboard. Logging on each day will help keep you on track….xxx

Wobbly – welcome to the forum and this way of life (wol). It is a bit daunting when you begin on 5:2 but you need to see this not as a diet but a wol. That is why this method succeeds where others fail….this is doable, flexible, forgiving and has lots of other health benefits apart from weight loss. Remember it is just two days per week and the temptation or treat can always be put off by saying “I can have it tomorrow”. Some days will be easier than others so don’t beat yourself up if you find it hard at times. Other days will fly by and you will be surprised at how easy it us. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water/fluids (non-alcoholic of course!) as sometimes we are actually not hungry but thirsty! Best of luck!!

Hi all and welcome Wobblybitz, love the name! I am sure we can all relate! Jade, love your post. So interesting to have ladies from other countries contributing. I had surgery on my right thumb on 25 Nov due to osteoarthritis and am very keen to get back to normal but it’s a slow process.
My sister and I are starting a gratitude diary this year. So much to be thankful for, including AD and all you lovely ladies!

Noots, how long before the plaster comes off? It seems very drawn out, what a difficult time for you. Just a cut on the finger is debilitating let alone what you have been through, so congratulations in not letting it beat you, not letting it get you down, and on letting your AUSSIE DETERMINATION rule the day πŸ˜ƒ xxxxx
WB, are you still with us? If you genuinely want our help we would be pleased to walk this journey with you. I suggest you get a copy of the book, or see the doco which started it all. It does show how easy this is and so very doable πŸ˜€xx

Hi again, CG the cast comes off on the 6th. Can’t wait. Love that Wobblybitz is now WB, so Aussie!!! A Freudian slip called you Wobblyblitz, which is what will happen when you stick with 5:2!
A cool start to the day here in Port Stephens so I’m doing my own blitzing, in the house, with OHs help, after letting things slide over Christmas. Tree and cards are being put away and some old fashioned cleaning being undertaken! I can do quite a lot one handed and have a Robomaid vacuum cleaner which is a great help. Off to start work now….

Hi, I have hopefully sorted the email thing!

No surprises that we get some new members at the start of the new year. Welcome, and stick with us, it is soooo worth it. The first week or two may seem difficult, for me it was only the first week and look through the early pages in this thread for ideas, we were full of them in those days.

Now most of us are old hands who are very happy we discovered this way of life and are sticking with it forever.

And listen especially to our mother hen, CG who always knows the right thing to say and cares a lot about her brood! We are quite a community here.

Well here is something to dampen your appetite! I had to throw out the rest of the xmas pudding, which I alone seem to love, because it was in the old spare fridge in the garage and when I opened it last night a giant cockroach was whizzing around in there. And another seemed to be on the outside of the fridge no doubt trying. So, after recovering from my total freak out, I looked for things that may not have been sealed properly and the pudding did seem to have loose glad wrap…

For those in cooler climates, you probably don’t have this problem and I don’t usually either though this sub tropical climate means that they are actually everywhere! So I guess today will be time for surface sprays and baits in the garage. I was actually about to have some of that pudding and I was so cross but philosophical! It was probably for the best, there was a lot left!

Oh Up, what a shame, especially when the taste buds were calling! I don’t have that problem here, mainly mice or rats! Due to the hay I guess, I bait the shed but worry about the boys too, so keep the bait high but the mice/rats knock it down. Trouble is snakes eat mice so it’s a two fold problem in the country! Anyway, think positive, think of the calories you saved yourself πŸ˜ƒ….xxxxxx

Just started a post and lost the lot! Thank you all for the warm welcome. I am in the Yarra Valley and there were no fireworks here for New Year. We were on a total fire ban so my husband and I had a quiet evening at home.
A little about myself? There is not much to tell I guess. I am a beader, using those pesky little seed beads and just finished a bracelet yesterday. I am just starting to dabble in a little metalwork and hope to become proficient in it. I sell my things at the local market and also at the local information centre where I volunteer two days a week. I’ve worked all my life and with this tree change, which began in February 2015, a whole new life has begun. We want to be fit and healthy to enjoy it!
I calculated my TDEE at 1623 and my BMI is shocking at 30.8. Today I am trying to work out menues for the week. Need to stick to a budget as we are both retired and live on a pension. I did receive a lovely tax return though and we are going to Japan in April. That is our first weight goal as I am determined we will be fit to do a lot of walking and climbing of steps. Have been before in 2011 and know what awaits.
I was surprised to read in the recipe book that low fat foods were required. I have just finished reading about how low fat is not good because they add a lot of sugar and other awful things instead and had gone back to full fat items.
    ***SIGH***
Anyway I will sit here today and work out what we should have this week and what we will do on our fast days.
CG do you mean not to have breakfast on the two FD’s or the entire time?

I spent some time after Christmas away from home trying to sort out my sons problems. His boss told me that he has come back to work in a better frame of mind. He is still waiting to shift into a house so is crashing at his sisters. During this time I could not do the fasting as some of my children are quite against it. (Ulterior motives I think.) This has really thrown out my system as I am trying to get the sugars and cereals out of my body again. This has only pushed my weight back to 64 kgs, I still have 10 kgs to go, but considering I was 89kgs last January I am not complaining.

The garden is not doing to bad with all the extreme heat. Although the lettuces have all gone to seed. Much to hot into the 40’s. Most of the others are okay. I am trying to catch up on all my jobs in the cooler weather as the hot spells are not over yet and you don’t feel like doing them in the heat.

Hi Genie, I rarely have brekkie any morning, just out of the habit now, and when you think about it, that is 7 less meals a week! Same with supper! I wont say never, every so often I might have a late morning smoothie πŸ˜ƒ I too am on a pension, and you will find your grocery shopping a lot lower because it’s mainly meat and veg you buy. None of that unhealthy stuff in the middle aisles ☺️ and agree regarding the low fat issue. On fast days, I sometimes have low fat/skim milk in my coffee, but the rest of the week, all full fat, yoghurt etc. It’s the way we have been “trained” over the years and it’s so wrong. We didn’t grow up with low fat anything, and there was never the obesity epidemic we see now. Well done doing your weekly menu, you find too so much can be made ahead and frozen. Soups, stews. I make up a big salad, coleslaw at the beginning of the week, in a container in the fridge, and find it lasts me, just have a bit of protein with it, chicken breast, steak etc and no mistakes are made. I have beetroot etc in other containers, and have a mix and match, all different every night πŸ˜€ I am also a big fruit lover, especially this time of year, so a couple of pieces a day, melon or something is all goodness and satisfying.
As you go along, you learn, you budget, you cook differently, it becomes the norm ☺️and is so very doable not like diets where you have to buy in everything.
Good luck stick with us, I’m sure you will see results…..xxxx

GL full credit to you. Don’t drop the ball, hang in there, you have come so far. Understand what you mean about the garden, mine is sink or swim. Fortunately everything is well established now but the sun does burn their leaves, so things can look a hit shrivelled, but revive when the rain comes and cooler weather. Only tomatoes in this year, a few cucumbers and zucchini, it’s enough to pour water on, and cheap enough to buy in the shops for just one. They don’t taste as good, but……
My grass is a mixture of green and white, the green being the flat leaf weeds! But we get through don’t we, it’s tough at times but wouldn’t swap it for the world πŸ˜ƒ xxxxxx

UP – one the few advantages of our climate is very few creepy crawlies; no cockroaches, snakes or deadly spiders. I think I’d run a mile if I saw some of the critters ye have over there. Still, I suppose it does away with the problem of what to do with the leftover pudding!
Genie – as long as your calories are below 500 on fast day and under your TDEE on the other days, it doesn’t matter what or when you eat. It can be easier not to eat breakfast on fast days because alot of us find that once we start eating, it can be hard to stop. Also avoiding carbs is good in general but especially on FDs because they use up lots of calories but don’t keep you full for long. A hard boiled egg is a great filler.
