  • Hi, Doggy that plan will definitely work. I did something similar while living in the U.S earlier this year and was very happy.

Re the white dress, I did feel good PH and somehow kept it clean enough to wear the next day to something as well. Usually, white and me are a disaster!

CG, can’t believe that I don’t have a photo to show you. We did do group selfies but only head shots. That was not very clever of me at all!

Hi Up. How do I add my email address to your AD ones.? I seem to remember doing it but it seems to have got lost in that cyberspace file.
Yes PH the family has been with us for almost two weeks and only go back to Melbourne on 9 January. After that to we have our grandson for another 10 days as they don’t have anyone to look after him when they go back to work. He has autism so it probably will be quite hard work but I’m sure we will cope. It is difficult for the whole family really. Our granddaughter has to put up with a lot as he gets so much attention.
CG I’ve just been listening to the cricket on the radio while preparing something for dinner. Even that is boring. Hmm.

Hi, I am sorry that I am not very helpful as I can’t seem to access that account anymore. Right now I can’t seem to even log out of my regular one to log into the other one. I will have another go later.

Ok, I tried something. It worked. Doggie, send me your details at uptightoutasight@gmail.com and I will forward them on.
I found 4 other messages for me too. Sorry everyone!

Up thankyou so much for doing that for Doggy, I do want to contact her.
Somehow we have all gotten out of the way of our weekly weighin, so New Years resolution RIGHT, weight every Friday will be posted. It does help keep us honest with ourselves and we do feel accountable when seeing it on a computer 😕 WE CAN DO IT okay! ☺️
Great to see the posts when I just logged on, very warm beautiful day here, heading down to do Lexie shortly….Doggy I’ve given up on the cricket, just no contest!
PH what a wonderful holiday, I use to. Love caravaning especially to the same spot where you know everyone, happy hour was a speciality, although we started at 11:00am, pre lunch, than back together around 4:00pm, don’t think I could handle it these days. Enjoy, these holidays are what we wait for all year, don’t spoil it by being “on a diet”
It has taken us years to get up to our heaviest weights, one week could not possibly undo all the good work you have done all year 😄 so relax and enjoy team,, this week is a one off, not a constant! …xxxxxx

Hi all just had the greatest dinner where everyone contributed.. We have three Nicole’s in our friends group. They have a regular Nikki, Nicki and Nicky get together each Christmas and then get together with the family’s ..we had this tonight and the three Nicole’s and a daughter of one of them are now playing cards. Such a special group that started when I met my best friend through work 35 years ago. The children have all grown up together and we get together at Christmas each year st the Sawtell Caravan Park. We are very blessed.

CG. Just re read your post..you are right. Nothing we can expect out of life will come anywhere near the closeness of great friendships.. I am having such a great time renewing these with my daughter that everything else pales into, insignificance… But I am still exercising portion control..the best lesson from 5.2

    Hi All!
I’ve had no answer from tech support but to be honest, I think it is my machine that’s at fault so we’re looking into getting a tablet of some sort and then I’ll be able to set up skype too.
SJ – best of luck buying the new bathers; what a great feeling to be needing new, smaller ones! Dawg – my OH is big fan of most sports but only watching!! We follow rugby union too and his local team is called Leinster and they have been quite successful. There are a few players from the Irish team on the local team, which makes it very exciting. Best of luck with the new diet regime. How brilliant you are to take on looking after your GS; autism is such a difficult condition to manage and always made worse by the lack of understanding of others.
PH – how wonderful your family and friends get-togethers seem to be – there’s nothing better! Good luck with the weighing in when you get home but you have been making lots of healthy choices so I’m sure all will be well.
CG – I’m not so sure one week hasn’t undone all my efforts this year; I’m very nearly the same weight as this time last year! But, I have taken the positive view that this is the worst I could possibly get and the only way from here is down!! So, bring it on!! I’m going to fast today and hopefully again on Thursday and then weigh in on Friday and post my result here to keep me honest!! I don’t usually weigh in straight after a fast day but I think it will be good for morale and I need that now!! Sounds like a lovely day in your part of the world. It’s looking quite pleasant here at the moment but the forecast is that this is the lull before the storm….another big weather system coming in from the Atlantic with high winds and heavy rain later today and into tomorrow….very bad news for the west of Ireland and parts of the UK again. I don’t know how those poor people can take much more of this. I’m counting my blessings. Take care all and I hope the weather is kind to you all wherever you are. Xxxx
UP – woohoo on getting into the white dress and keeping it clean!!

Hi Fit, I think, or hope you will find the extra weight is fluid retention and food in transit. I’m sure your two fasts this week will give you the surprise your after on the scales 😃
Keep the faith, your AUSSIE DETERMINATION will stand by you 😃 YOU CAN DO THIS and will be back to your pre xmas weight before too long 😉xxxxxxx

Fit, can’t you kick any harder than that?? Ha, I fell off the FD wagon late last night. All OH’s fault, he was having ice cream, which I can’t eat, but darn if I didn’t find some old Cool Whip in the freezer. Not sure that’s a thing worldwide but it’s basically sugar, petroleum byproducts, the odd insect part, who knows. Nothing of nutritional value BUT it is non-dairy, so I had a spoonful (or 10) for being so virtuous. Ah well, I’ll try for virtue again on Thurs.
CG, your call to arms is inspiring, maybe I need a good dose of Aussie Determination to undo my Southern Stubbornness. Might help if it were summer here, too – I like to stand near the stove in the winter and we all know where that leads. Hmm, still not sure how I ended up in the freezer last night….

Doggy, it is so kind of you to care for your grandson. Autism is difficult to understand and deal with, something a dear friend here has explained to me (she is a regular caretaker). It takes a huge heart and great empathy, ironic as that’s what the person with autism usually lacks. I do hope you can have some good time together.
PH gosh your holiday caravan sounds delightful – there is nothing better than a community of friends, and communal cooking is great fun. And how great that the next generation is part of it as well. I bet the laughter can be heard from miles around.
UP, we laugh that we always seem to have on white clothes when eating barbecue (with dark red sauce of course). It is a splatter fest, no way is anyone wearing the same thing the next day.

Good luck to everyone if fasting or like me just mentally sorting out how that was done before the holidays. I so need to prepare my classes for next semester, but I can’t seem to stop relaxing (in between sprints to the kitchen). So much more fun to hang out online all over the world – I wonder if I could just teach that instead? No doubt my students are already experts. Take care all and have a wonderful day. jade xx

Ok, Jade – I’m sending in the big guns…or rather the big boots for the biggest kick ever. If I can do it, so can you – so get away from the fridge, the stove, the OH and anything else tempting! I managed to throw one leg over the bucking bronco and have just had a small bowl of homemade tomato soup so far today – it’s almost 6pm. My OH is making beef in black bean sauce for dinner and I will have a small portion of that too and hopefully that will keep me satisfied as well as under the 500 cals.
CG – I’ll be very surprised if alot of the the weight gain is just fluid retention or food in transit….but I’m not too upset because things could be worse and I have a great support team here for back-up! So I’m using all my aussie determination and I’m going to have the best result I can possibly manage to post here on Friday!! 🙂

Hi Fit, hoping that CG is right and that a couple of fast days will get rid of all th fluid for you. I find that It is a good idea though to always weigh the day after a fast.it really is the most consistent I believe because you are mostly eating the same thing the day before, compared to weighing if you have not fasted which can fluctuate a lot. Also better for the mental buzz you get from weighing at your lowest. The trick for me is to weigh on the day after my second fast for the week and not go anywhere near the scales during the week. That way you don’t put yourself through the highs and lows of fluctuating weight. I find it also motivates to have two fast days as well to get the best results.

I am hoping I do not put on too much with the enjoyment of this Christmas period 🎄🎄but if I do then I know it will come off quite quickly once that Aussie Determination kicks in again and the pool sessions start again.🏊🏻🏊🏻🏊🏻🏊🏻
Re the tablet idea it seems like a good idea as I find it great as it is so portable and easy to carry around. I have an IPad and it goes with me everywhere. For that you need a SIM card just like your phone. You can Skype on an ordinary computer as well. You just need to search for Skype and then download it. The most important thing with Skype is the speed of your computer and provider.

Doggy I agree with everyone else that it is a wonderful thing you are doing looking after your grandson. You obviously have one big heart!❤️💛💚💙💜

Jade you sound like a lady full of life and this being so you will fit with all of us Aussies and our wonderful Fit and Milena from OS. What do you teach? We would love to hear more about you. You are right about it being harder to fast in the winter. 🍵🍵🍵 My staple for that time is a miso soup to drink from a cup during the day as a hot during along with the water to keep you feeling full. We have an Aussie Determination Recipe Thread too and the recipe for the miso soup is on that thread. I usually make a double batch and freeze it in cup size portions. It is also available over here in the supermarket in packets. Not sure what they are called as I always make my own but others on the thread would know.

Am going to try for a Fast Day today . Have been going well with not eating till lunch time so far so I’ll see how I go with taking that till 4pm. Then just having our combined dinner and substituting lime for my scotch in my soda water for happy hour. This will test me but not going to beat myself up if I fail…a mini fast will help the cause too. At least we don’t stay up half the night playing cards anymore as we don’t last the distance, mostly start to fade around 9.30. The next generation have taken over the late night duties for us with gusto!!
Have a great Day everyone and remember. Life is for living..enjoy!! Hope that weather pattern does is not too bad Fit and Milena. 🌧⛈💥🌪🌫💨. And for all our Victorian,s hope the fires stay away…

Fit our posts crossed…well done today!!! You sound like you have gotten back that Aussie Determination…GO. GO. GO,!,!! What a great effort getting on to that bucking bronco!! And riding it till it stopped in its tracks……ill have to see if there are any down here at the beach. Enjoy your dinner…🍽🍽

Hi all, my sister in the UK sent me a book a few years ago called The Beck Diet Solution and I have been re-reading it. Ms Beck recommends writing encouraging messages on small cards and placing them where you can read them daily. I have one on my ensuite mirror detailing all the reasons I want to lose weight and am sure it is helping me to get more determined.
Had a great day out yesterday looking around at all the sales. Bought two items of clothing for less than half price at shops that I would normally think of as beyond my budget. Do you ladies prefer a few good clothes or lots of cheaper ones? I’ve been the latter but am going to try the former as my weight gets down to my goal. Noni B has a free styling service which I’ve wanted to do for ages so I’m going to book in early in the new year. Will report back. Feeling very optimistic that 2016 is my year to be slim again! We CAN do this, ladies.

Good morning team, good evening Fit and Jade. Your doing so well with your AUSSIE DETERMINATION I’m positive your fasts will have the right effects for you both. Winter is awfully hard to fast in, but soup is the best main stay. So many varieties you can make, cauliflower, veggie, miso, mushroom, all very easy and also freezable. If they are on hand, for emergencies, and a variety in the freezer so you don’t get sick of the same one, it’s win win. I also find a good old omelette very filling and low cal, I often use one whole egg and two egg whites, a few veggies thrown in, bit of parsley, dead easy, you can’t lose! Well, weight you will 😏 but easy for hot snack food too! Make the omelette up as small patties, yummy and low cal. Your mind set is what is getting you back on the horse girls, we all have had the “oh buggar it’s” but we also know the difference when our head is in the right place. Fit, if you are really “so” over, that will be your personal foot up the A that you need. Get cross, get even, YOU CAN DO IT! No self pitty, be bloody minded and the challenge will inspire you, so hay BRING IT ON mate 😃…. Scrambled egg wrapped in a lettuce leaf is a great lunch too 😀 Funny, in this heat, it seems strange thinking of winter foods, BUT, you do get sick of same ol’ same ol’ as in salads and eggs are great any time of year 😊
Doggy, what a champ you are, having your grand son staying with you and being autistic, You would know him so well and be confident in your ability I’m sure. Having that responsibility will be tiring for you, but I know you wouldn’t have offered if you didn’t think you would cope. It’s all credit to you xxx
PH, what a wonderful time you are having, if you have noted I have mentioned the campers we get down here, along the coast and at the Prom. I do feel sorry for them when the weather sours, or bush fires are around, but over all, it’s a wonderfully cheap, fun holiday for families, and yes, friendships do last through the generations ☺️
34 predicted today, bound to be hotter out here, but a glorious morning, peace on earth, it’s just beautiful. My fast went very well and quite easy too, only once did the rocky road call my name, but I ignored it, told it I’d get to it tomorrow 😟 and went out into the garden and stayed busy. ..I get more done on fast days staying away from the kitchen 😃
The Telstra tech came yesterday and finished the instalation of the NBN and I can’t believe the difference in the speed on my computer. Almost like a “city kid” I know when I’m down with my family, the speed is incredible with the computer, so us country prople are entering the new centuary. It’s silly though, we would all be satisfied with the slower speed if they would give us a moble phone tower, very third world out here and no mobile service. The country fire authority send SMS’s of warnings if fires are around, no damn good to us without mobile services!
Have a lovely positive day team, stay focused, even if not fasting remember PORTION-PORTION- PORTION control also alternatives! Can you have something instead with less cals, Instead of a ham salad sandwich, have a ham salad ON THE PLATE, lose the bread! Re think your meals team, all very easy 😀 YOU CAN DO IT xxxxxx

Noots, congratulations on your frame of mind, 2016 WILL be your year,…..it will be OUR year. That’s positive thinking 😃 The notes are a great idea, but I find having a picture of me, at my heaviest weight, enough of a “kick in the butt” to keep me on track. No way will I EVER let myself get back to those days. With clothes, well I prefer a bit of both. The cheap ones for everyday wear especially around here, but it’s nice to have a few good outfits for the special occasions 😉 but I find too, even if my clothes are not designer wear, with a bit of bling, hairdo, they come up alright and do for taking me shopping, doctors etc……..lovely to hear from you xxxxx

What a wonderful encouraging support email CG. You have such a way with words. You are correct about getting sick of one soup. I do others and have them in the freezer but find the miso very much to my taste so tend to go back to it. Don’t have soup in summer as I nibble on cucumbers and other vegies. Omelette in lettuce sounds delicious..have not tried that. I also find my green smoothies great. So many beautiful things we can eat I find. Much more interesting than just something on toast like before we discovered 5.2. Did a beautiful, watermelon, prawn and cucumber salad with walnuts for Christmas. It was delicious.

Noots. Love the messages to self idea. Might give it a try. I do the opposite to CG and have a photo of me when I was at a much slimmer of the fridge and tell myself I can look like this again…as for clothing I love well cut clothes and to have a couple of really good outfits in the cupboard for special occasions. I do most of my shopping at Be Me which is Rockmans Larger Sizes Shop. Their clothes are cut very well for the larger sizes like me. However must admit to altering most things before I wear them to make them exactly how I like them..a sleeve shortened, a hem straightened on tops etc. In an earlier life I was a colour and style consultant where I advised ladies what style suited their figure shape and draped them in swatches to work out what colour tones made the most of their skin tones. Loved it but there was no money in it so had to go and get a real job again.

Love this holiday lifestyle. Not having to get up to go to early pool sessions. The park I am in gives you free passes to the public pool which is next door I really should go there today for some exercise. The weather has been lovely and cool here for this time of the year and a bit windy. We are close to where a small creek runs into the ocean and swimming in the creek is the way to go. Will have to check this out today as well as there is no wind so far. Have a great day everyone and remember the silly season is officially over….

Doggie, you are right about your granddaughter. In a previous job, we used to run a siblings group where the siblings of children in our program could get together. They do have to deal with a lot, not just lack of attention but also the problems that stem from having a disabled sibling which can impact on their lives so that things many take for granted such as having friends to sleep over can be problematic in some cases, or going out in public. Autism IS hard work, good luck.

Jade, where in the U.S are you from? Have I even got that bit right?

PH, I think Sawtell Caravan Park is great. I have stayed in the cabins there a number of times when the children were younger. I just heard about the new cinema the other day!

Fit, I cannot believe that you could have gained that much actual fat. I’m with CG, you can’t undo things that fast! Keep the faith!

Personally, I am not going near the scales for a week or so. And am only fasting when the temptations are finally gone from the fridge, hopefully soon, but with my son here, I keep bringing food in. He is a runner and training for a marathon, plus wanting to eat Australian food, albeit healthy stuff if you don’t count the odd pie! When he goes at the end of the month and my daughter moves to Sydney, it will be much simpler. My daughter brings many yummy cheeses and breads into the house!

However, I am not waiting that long, I have a beach holiday in February and need also to buy new swimmers, which is still way too confronting! By the time I make myself go, all the DD underwire jobs will have been sold anyway!

So fasting starts again next week. I will have gained but I know it won’t take long to lose for some reason. It is getting lower than that that is the tricky part!

PH – sounds like you are having the time of your life; enjoy it and make the most of the good times! I also buy cheaper clothes for day to day but try to get better quality classic pieces for special occasions. I also look for sales in the expensive boutiques where I wouldn’t usually be able to afford. The storm is raging away outside and the rainfall over the next 24 hours is expected to be up to four inches. Luckily for me, the worst will not hit my part of the country, but some people are going to be hit again for the third time in as many weeks. This is the sixth Atlantic storm in the last couple of months.
Noots – well done on getting some bargains in the sales; it’s also a great way to motivate oneself to lose weight because there are usually better prices, selection and choice if you are closer to average sizes.
CG – I agree that soups are a good way to go when fasting in winter and I think I will start making some batches to freeze for FDs. The meals I have are generally healthy; it’s the snacking and grazing that are my downfall and there were just too many goodies lying around for the last week or so. Having given myself permission to eat whatever I liked because it was Christmas, I just couldn’t stop. But now, I’ve got things back under contol….I hope. I’ve done a really good fast today and I hope I can do as you said: one little treat with my coffee on non fast days until they are gone. I know I can do this with my AUSSIE DETERMINATION and the support here. I will fast again on Thursday and weigh in on Friday – I am determined to be better in mind, spirit and body than this time last year 🙂 xxxxx

UP – I can’t see you having any problems buying new swimmers…..with those fab legs, no-one will notice anything else anyway!! 😉 Where are you going for the beach holiday?

Hi team. Up thanks for the contact info. I will send it to you. For those kind sounds who are congratulating me re our autistic grandson. Yes it is difficult to understand his condition and requires endless patience that I don’t always have. I think he has a touch of Asbergers too as he’s quite amazing at working out the diagrams of highly technical stuff. His schoolwork is difficult for him though. They do not have any empathy either and I’m guessing he gets bullied at school.
Last night I made an executive decision to put all the chocolates in one container and place them within easy reach of everyone. The rest of the family are all as skinny as greyhounds so they can feed up and get rid of the temptation for me.
Oh Fit you poor thing. More storms coming your way wiht lots of rain. It’s a pity we can’t share it out. I’m sure both CG and I would love a few inches of rain to come our way.
Right I now have Pepper the pooch on my lap and typing is becoming difficult.
    Cheers Doggy.
    🙈🙉🙊

Good morning/afternoon Aussies – and Fit you must be in bed by now. I hope the storms don’t come by to wake you.
I think my FD went belly-up yesterday when my soup didn’t turn out well – it was the usual shove-leftovers-into-a-pot-and-hope, but the leftovers included ham, chicken parmesan, and wilting veggies. A bit too much hope in that one! Better to go with a fresh soup next time. CG thanks for the suggestions, and PH I will check out the recipes on the other thread. I have to get busy using my spiralizer, too, if I can lay hands on a fresh vegetable.

Noots, I love the idea of encouraging cards. I am prone to berating myself when I don’t do things just so, and all that does is make me slightly anxious. CG it’s amazing how you rally the troops. You do have the touch!

I confess, I hate shopping. I am short with hips, which is fine but hard to fit without altering. So I hate to pay for expensive clothes and then pay a tailor, too. (I have a sewing machine, not even sure how to thread it, which is why I so admired your handiwork, SJ.)

So a bit more about me – I grew up in a small town in Georgia (southeast USA), got married too young (I don’t get anything right the first time), went back to school, now happily married for 30 years, and we have 3 grown kids and a passel of grandkids. I’m teaching logic and business at a law school, after several careers, but not what you’d call the dignified professor type. We’re animal lovers, of course! We live in an old farmhouse, once out in the country but now really a suburb, so we’re always trying to fix the odd thing and then calling in an expert. Just the other day OH said he needed a new drill and I thought why, because we need another hole in our heads? but wisely kept that one to myself.

Are you all near the coast in Australia? I see that PH is at the beach, Up and SJ (and others?) need new bathers (swimmers? we call them swimsuits) – what fun! I haven’t been swimming in years. OH’s idea of a grand vacation is in the cold, so Fit – your Ireland in May was right up his alley! Like a goose, all I took was a few sweaters, and took to wearing them all at the same time. Can’t even imagine needing bathers there.

Time to go for a short walk with the pups – it will keep me away from the kitchen! No cool whip for me tonight 😉 jade xx

Hi Jade, it’s lovely we all get to know each other and just love your sense of humour, it will fit right in here 😀 I live in South Gippsland in Victoria Aus, I’m inland in God’s own country, cattle country, so pretty much always green and lush, but oddly, we don’t always get the rain we need. I’m approx 40mins from any coast, but we are a tourist mecca this time of year, so roads get busy as do the shops. I was surprised earlier when I went to our local town to stock up on fresh fruit and veg, how quiet it seemed, oh plenty around but not as busy as I expected, maybe tomorrow! I live on the edge if a small close knit village, but never feel invaded with sticky beaks! Locals are always willing to help each other but pretty much get on with living their own lives, a lot of dairies so they are kept awfully busy. I have three King Charles Spaniels (my boys) one cat (Maggie, the boss😊) a calf and awaiting another (Lexie) and four stupid sheep! We all blend beautifully😃 and live on a couple of acres, 1/4 of which is a huge garden. Why the difficulty in getting fresh veggies? Don’t they come from other parts os the U.S.? I take it your in “Dixie land country” it’s always been my dream to go there, a bit of Scarlet O’Hara, but believe food is basically fried 😟 and very fatty. Congratulation on coming aboard, we love having you, and hearing of your life…..just out of curiosity how the rest of the world lives.
Even the soup you made is probably better than a lot of foods you could have chosen, so whisk it all up together, and just have a cup, it should be very tasty 😃 maybe with a couple of dry biscuits….xxxxxxxxx

Hi team good news and not so good. I bought my new bathers and I’m really happy with how I look. I was quite surprised with the image. Now of course I could be slimmer and still have a way to go but that doesn’t bother me. I look sorta normal now if you know what I mean! And Up mine are DD’s too but they’re clever these days as they don’t look it.
The not so good is that my FD only lasted until 2pm then I crashed and once I did nothing was off limits. Going to be difficult while we’re away from home &eating out a lot so will just do the best I can with good choices portion control and maybe skipping a meal when I can. I have also put away all the food type stuff we bought with us & christmas food OFF the bench and into the pantry where I don’t see it. Much better!!!
Off to the zoo today as a little cooler 29 I think and cloud cover so that’s good. Only on my phone while away so I am reading all your posts team but wont be replying. Too hard! And I make too many typos and the teacher in me makes me go back and correct them!! Well this post is starting to play up so will close….typos or no typos before I lose the plot!! Sj xxxx

You ladies must look like pin-ups – I’m way up the alphabet from you, nothing to fill out the top at all. Congrats on finding just the thing to make you feel grand.
CG I exaggerated a bit, my small town does have a small grocery but the produce is limited in winter. Bigger supermarkets are available on my commute, everything you could want, but they’re about half an hour away so over the holiday break I’ve been throwing whatever I can find into the pot when it’s just OH and I. But honestly that soup was atrocious!! The only thing I’d whisk it up with would be some gasoline, and a match.
You have quite the menagerie! I think sheep are so pretty – they were everywhere in rural Ireland and I couldn’t get enough of them. Do you keep them for milk or wool? Your Lexie is adorable. I’m not a farm girl despite all my time in small towns, so pardon my ignorance. Your town sounds like paradise. We are a close-knit bunch here, too – it’s a nice little community and very neighborly.
Cheers all – it’s coming up my bedtime. Nice talking with you all today, what an amazing thing to be connected across the world. xx

Thanks, Jade, I had forgotten that it was Georgia! It sounds lovely. Most of Australia’s population lives around the edges so most of us live fairly close to the coast but some are a bit inland. Most of the middle of Australia is fairly inhospitable although it has it’s charms.

Yes, bathers are swimmers depending on where you come from. I grew up saying cossies (pronounced cozzies) which is short for swimming costume, in Sydney but learned “bathers ” when aligned with South Australia and now in Queensland, everyone calls them togs!

I’ve always know them as Togs, or bathers Up, funny all the different names one piece of clothing can have. DD, I’d have given anything for that size, especially when at my skinniest in my teens and early 20’s. I was behind the door when decent bust sizes were given out I think. I’m a C now, down from a D but that D didn’t show because it competed with my belly!😏 I guess we are never satisfied, we all want the “Barbie” figure, which is a rarity! At least we are all naturals.
Love the picture Jade of the petrol and match, no body goes without the odd disaster in the kitchen 😀, sweet dreams xxxxx

Jade nice to learn something about you. You do sound very intellectual. We will have to watch our P’s & Q’s. I live on the north east coast of Tasmania. If you have Google earth you will see its a island state at the southern tip of Australia. Our house is very close to the sea. ie a five minute walk. I was born in South Africa but emigrated to Australia with OH & kids 36 years ago. I’m a retired theatre nurse by profession. We also called them cozzies. – swimsuits, bathers, togs. I’ll leave the other to tell you about budgie smugglers. I’m an animal lover too. But now only have one dog. He’s a Poodle and hard work as he’s still a pup and full of energy. We are going overseas in February and when we get back we are going to find a companion dog for him. Both OH & I love Golden Retrievers so we will probably put our feelers out for an older dog that is looking for a new home. I don’t know if I could cope with another puppy. I’ve kept cats, chickens ( known here as chooks ) cats, rabbits ducks, geese plus tropical fish in the past. As I now live in a semi suburban environment I’ve had to cut done on the livestock.
One of you was mentioning messing food on your white dress. I am a very messy eater and inevitably manage to spill some food ( messy of course ) down the front of my clothes. I often sneakily wear an apron to the table and its navy blue so no one can see the stains. I’ve a great soap that removes the stains but think it must have some horrible toxic substance in it as if I don’t wear gloves when using it my hands feel like nutmeg graters.

Hi all, welcome Jade. We are branching out world wide aren’t we! I live on Australia’s east coast in New South Wales, about three hours’ drive north of Sydney, a lovely spot. Fairly new to 5:2 and haven’t done well over Christmas but am determined to start afresh in 2016 and lose those last 7 kg for ever. Happy new year and good luck to all. I love this web site.

Noots, I’m with you, I’d love to drop another 7K so will walk this path with you. I have been very happy at my “new” weight and now feel a bit more would be better 😃 xxx

Gyps, thinking of you and hope you are safe, our reports down here tell us you are getting all the flooding rain, stay safe dear friend xxxxx

Hi team, just got an email from Gypsy, she is fine no floods yet but heaps of rain, she said she would be more worried about Up in Brisbane….are you okay Up? Gyps is on a writing project so doesn’t want to stop the flow, she wishes everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR 😀 xxxxxx

Hi I everyone, I did it. Completed a fast day whilst on holiday ..never thought I could do it. Came in at 495cals. Soda water with lime for drinkies tonight and no nibbles. Boy this plan really works. Never before have I had such success with my willpower. 😇😇😇😇😇
Can now celebrate the New Year with a clear conscience. Went to the creek for a swim this morning and the tide was in so got some good exercising in as well. Then went shopping to my fav store and managed to get 2 pairs of 3/4 jeans each reduced from 79.00 to 15.00 that fit perfectly.👖👖 What a day!!!!

Jade, so good to hear about you and what you do and where you live. You must have a great mind to do what you do. Very Impressive. 🎓🎓🎓Will look up your area on google when I get home and try to get some idea where you are from. I live in a small town about 15 minutes from the nearest beach just behind Coffs Harbour in the hinterland. We have a small caravan which we use regularly to go camping at the beaches and rivers. My OH is a mad keen fisherman. I retired this year in May at the age of 68 years after working for the Department of Health as a Business Manager which consisted of managing budgets for Community Health Services. Love being retired.. Have had lots of health issues recently and spend my time going to rehabilitation classes in the Hydrotherapy Pool and learning to play Bridge. Have improved out of sight during the last year and am loving life. I started 5.2 in early September and have lost approx 9kg since then, probably more like 7-8 Kgs after the silly season. Still have a long way to go as I have just managed to get under 100kgs. These fabulous team that makes up Aussie Determination have been the reason for my success. Been married for almost 45 years with three grown children spread far and wide. Only one grandchild (in Canada) so far with one just about cooked and due to come out of the oven in January in Tasmania.

UP. Have not been to the new cinema yet but keen to check it out. The creek is awesome this year.

CG ..need to be careful what you wish for, or have wished for…. having big boobs is not always a good thing. About 20 yrs ago I had a medically referred breast reduction which reduced my weight by 3 kgs and still have to buy DD bras. We are never really satisfied with what we are given but I would give anything to have a C cup like it was after the reduction.. Lucky they did not all grow back.

Doggy know what you mean about spilling things on clothes. I am always doing that and so white is not a good colour for me to wear. It seems like everything drops on the shelf that is protruding out the front and then just drizzles down. Getting worse as I get older too.

Noots. We will all get stuck into the weight loss as soon as the new year kicks in.. Then we will just smash it!!!

FIT. Great that you have had a really good fast day and yes I am having a good time. Love this annual week or so at Sawtell with friends

gyps..good luck with the writing..hope the weather gods continue to be kind to you.

SueJen. Hope you continue to enjoy yourself in the Big Smoke. GG. A big Hi to you and hope all is well.

off to the land of Nod. 😴😴😴😴

CG. Just reading the ABC news on the iPad before I go to sleep. Not great news for fires in Vic. Hope are not near you …stay safe my friend…🔥🔥🔥🔥

PH thank you for the kind thought, yes it’s frightening but safe where I am, tomorrow will be extreme, total fire ban day, high winds and temperature so will be watching all info supplied by media. Unfortunately all fires down my way were deliberately lit, mungrels! Sleep well my fiend 😃 xxxxx

    Hi All!
The storm is still raging away but I had a great night’s sleep, it’s lovely to know you are safe and warm in bed while the wind is howling outside. Nearly 4,000 homes and businesses are without electricity due to power lines down and may roads and homes are flooded. I hope you stay safe Gyps, and that the only thing flowing is your creative juices!!
Jade – you are a tonic, I loved your description of the soup fiasco….I’m a hopeless cook and my OH does all the cooking in my house. I’m also very challenged in the chest department…I’m lucky if I fill an A cup…..but on the plus side, there’s nothing to be tugged downwards by gravity!! 😉
Dawg – your GS is very lucky to have you but it’s very disappointing to hear that there is a lack of understanding and sympathy for him at school; a place where he should feel protected and cherished. I hope he enjoys his time with you at least. Well done on putting the goodies out for everyone to get rid of…good thinking!
PH – well done on your FD and how you are adapting to this wol….true AD spirit. Excellent shopping too….great bargains, woohoo!!
CG – I’m looking forward to getting back into fresh fruit and veg too; I have been feeling bloated and unwell from all the sugary and processed foods even though I couldn’t stop stuffing myself. I feel much better today and also in a more positive frame of mind. Thanks for all your words of inspiration and encouragement.
SJ – I have no doubt you will be well able to make healthy choices on your travels. It’s great to hear how pleased you are in your new swimmers…..you should be so proud to have come so far. We call them swimsuits but when we were children we called them togs, but not so much now.
Noots – we are all with you…..this is the new year and new beginning when we will refocus and get into a routine of fasting and portion control and kick those nasty kg to the kerb once and for all!! Hope your thumb is well on the mend.
Up – did you get your new swimmers? Hope you are happy with your purchase when you do get them.
I’ve nothing planned for today as it is far too wild to go on any unnecessary journeys. So I’ll get on with some indoor chores and keep busy so that I don’t head for the leftover goodies…..wish me luck!! I’m keeping in mind that I’ll be weighing in on Friday and posting here, so that should keep me on the straight and narrow!!

Hi all – WOW, PH, sticking to soda and lime w/o nibbles on vacation is just hard core awesome. I’ve just realized my second planned FD attempt is NYEve…maybe I can follow your lead. Thank you for the mortarboard emojis 🙂 but I’m not really smart, just stubborn enough to choke down more schooling so I could get a useful job I enjoyed. The intellectual side bores me. Helping people out of a legal jam is fun so I hope I’m teaching that.
I’m glad you’re all safe from nature’s fury and it’s lovely that you check on each other. I’m sorry, “we” check on each other (thank you again for welcoming me in). In the US (spoiler alert political mini-rant) there’s always hue and cry over “unnecessary” federal aid until of course the criers need it. I hope it is not the same way where you are. I wish the ignorant attitude of “I don’t need it, why should you” would die, talk about lack of empathy! OK sorry, rant over, that is the feisty me.
Ah thank you for telling me about yourselves also! I have read back a ways and discovered a bit on my own. Your lives come alive on the pages and it’s a delight to get to know you. I could give you all a fantastic tour of the South someday – I always loved spending summers in Louisiana where my mom grew up, and then I lived in New Orleans for college and after, always loved the French Quarter and Mardi Gras. As a kid, my parents took my brothers and me to the beach on Georgia’s Sea Islands and also the panhandle of Florida, and we have taken our kids there also but now they’re grown, OH’s preference for cold and mountains isn’t outweighed by the masses 🙂 You would love the Great Plains and Rockies, too, where I have spent some time – Wyoming and Montana are gorgeous. And the Great Lakes, where we took sailing lessons… Now how’s that for a travelogue? Come one, come all.
I’ll get the jump on you by posting this before you’re awake – except Fit who is no doubt doing a valiant stare-down of all the rounded-up goodies. Good luck!
This is an active bunch and I will need to work hard to keep up with you. But now, off to work on my classes, the new year is approaching with the sound of Jaws in my ears. xxx

Good morning team, HAPPY NEW YEAR, may I wish you all a very healthy and positive year ahead. May the impossible be achieveable and may your dreams be realised with ease. May all issues and pain be a thing of the past and 2016 be a year of peace, love and harmony😀
Jade what a brilliant post. Thank you for sharing with us. All the places you mention are only names I know from TV shows. There is a romance in the thought of each one of them. You certainly have travelled which is wonderful, getting to know your own country. Being so far from everything in Australia, people here tend to travel over seas rather than see their own beautiful country. Although now, a lot of retirees sell up or rent their homes, and buy a large caravan, and join clubs with like minded people and travel Australia far and wide. In fact the are well know as The Grey Nomads ☺️ and they all have a fabulous time……spending their kids inheritance…..and why not!
Very very hot here today, servere fire dangers being warned, Lorne and around that area is still alight and locals being warned to leave now as the winds are expected to pick up making it impossible to fight this demon. Awful day ahead! It’s exactly the same type of day we had here in Victoria on Black Saturday which wiped out so much glorious country and towns, so many people lost their lives…it’s frightening.
I’m planning to fast today, but if it goes belly up, I’m not too worried, tomorrow is another day, weather predicted is better, and I should be able to focus better and not be eating/grazing out of nerves. No doubt a couple of whiskies will be nudged too 😋
Have a wonderful day team, if your planning to celebrate the coming of 2016 be safe, enjoy all it involves and know 5:2 and our WOE will have us all back on track before too long. 😄 We will all knuckle down, get back of the horse, concerntrate on our eating plans with confidence and knowhow. To all you lurkers, come on board, get to know us, introduce yourself, we love having new “blood” on our team, and you will be made feel very welcome 😉 Don’t sweat the small stuff today team, it’s the last one of the silly season, so enjoy xxxxxxxxx

Hi all. Fit, I am going to a place called South West Rocks on the mid north coast of NSW. We go every year for a simple old fashioned holiday. It is a small town with a good surfing beach next door to a more family friendly beach next door to a river and with a bay on the other side. Whatever you like doing water wise, can be done there. No shopping or nightlife worth mentioning so wouldn’t suit some but we love it as it never changes, a rarity. We always see dolphins etc and for divers there is a famous place called Fish Rock where you can swim with lobsters and grey nurse sharks simultaneously. We are not divers but have friends who are.

PH, well done! That is impressive on a holiday!

CG, firstly, I don’t know what Gypsy means unless it is yet to come. It is going to be 28 here and partly cloudy. We haven’t had any signs of bad weather at all the past few days but thank you for your concern.

Secondly, I was flatchested as a teenager too and longed for something decent to put in my bikini top! My DD issues only came with weight! I managed a B at best before children after which I was a C for ages and happy with that but haven’t seen that size since forever. And while DD sounds good, it only is if they are where they should be rather than needing quite some assistance in the harnessing department! Fit, I won’t buy swimmers until I am back in fasting mode. And CG, I have never had a really flat stomach in my life, my biggest body flaw. It is only in the last 12 months that I have realised how much things like bread, hence probably gluten, has contributed to that. If only I had known for the previous 50 odd years!

Jade, I am lucky that I have been to many of the places you mentioned as I have lived in the U.S a couple of times. 20 years ago in Texas and more recently I was in Connecticut for 4 months. I love all the Louisiana food, etouffee, crawfish, catfish and gumbo! How wonderful to go to college in New Orleans!Food and music! We have travelled a lot while there and I agree about Wyoming and Montana. I also loved the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia (?). I go to the states annually these days and will be visiting my son in New York in June I think. This is because my husband is an academic and I tag along for the ride. I would never have seen so much of the world otherwise.

I am doing nothing for NYE tonight which I am quite happy about and will no doubt be in bed long before. I hope you all have a nice evening whatever you do and no doubt tomorrow will be full of new plans!

I happened to read an Oprah quote earlier and it resonated with me.

“Luck is preparation meeting the moment of opportunity” or maybe as I have always said, you make your own luck, up to a point. I think of my daughter getting her new job, she was lucky to beat other applicants but then she has put a lot of hard work in to make herself the preferred applicant. It can be applied in so many other ways too. Sometimes in life we have just plain lucky or unlucky things happen to us, for sure but I am pretty sure you can give yourself a helping hand. If we all are manage to have healthier and longer lives since we adopted this lifestye, we will be lucky, but we will have contributed to that luck!
Cheers, I will still be having a NYE drink tonight!

Fit was your storm, Storm Frank? Glad you are OK.

Happy New Year to you all – it’s not even new year’s eve for me yet but I don’t want to be late with the good wishes to my amazing friends here 🙂 🙂 🙂
Jade – what a wonderful country you live in and such contrasting wonders of nature! Myself and OH went to the U.S. in 1984 as very poor recently weds and spent the summer working in New Jersey. We spent only a few hours in New York but had a lovely week in Philadelphia. Then we went to the Caribbean and blew all our money on a holiday there!! One of my sisters has been to many of the states you have mentioned and she always raves about the Rockies and the Grand Canyon.
CG – I know this will be a great year for all the AD team. We have come through so much together and seen each other through many a rough patch. Together we are stronger and we can continue to help each other realize our goals. I’m looking forward to celebrating my first full year on this thread…..I think it was the middle of January. I am in a much better frame of mind this time around and I know I am going to get to my goal before too long!! I can’t imagine how it must feel to be under threat from bush fires; it must be terrifying. I hope and pray that you and yours stay safe and that conditions improve soon.
Up – we love to be by the beach too in France…..miles and miles of sand, very quiet usually and our dog loves the freedom. It’s a very peaceful part of the country and not too touristy. We like a simple holiday too….good food and wine, pleasant company, walks on the beach, reading lots of books. Our neighbours there are so kind to us and invite us to local events and to their houses for drinks and nibbles. My OH grew up beside the sea so he just has to spend time at a beach every year and goes for at least one swim a day, even though the water is usually freezing….brrrrrr!

Yes the storm is Frank and he hasn’t quite blown himself out yet. Lashing rain here as I write but frost forecast for later tonight and early morning. Then back to more rain and cooler temperatures. Some places got two weeks rain in one day!!

Hi Up, I’ve pretty much always been a C but in my teens and early 20’s my tummy wasn’t just flat, it con caved, especially in bikini’s and sun-baking at the beach. I could see right down to …. My bikini bottoms went from hip to hip leaving a gape in the middle. Those days have long gone, two caesarians and a hysterectomy has taken care of that! I have the strangest pleat on my lower tummy now which will never go, and still have a roll which annoys me in 10/12 shorts as it hangs over yet the shorts fit perfectly. Elastic waist band seem the only solution to that I think. My Mum was heavily endowed and did eventually had the reduction op, she hated them, just so heavy, and she had a magnificent figure. As stated, we are never happy. She was only 5’2″ They did grow back over years, I think our bodies store fat where it sees fit, some on the hip, bum belly or bust.
Enjoy your NYE drink,nI certainly will be too, even alone, I enjoy it ☺️ xxxxx

Fit, I was wondering where you were! Stay safe dear friend, being cosy inside is to be relished. So many unfortunate people this time of year. It seems to hit the world around the xmas period. Love your mind set Fit, you ARE back on track. I finished 2015 at 74.3k this morning (for the record) so hope to be down from that this time next year. Be kind to yourself team, enjoy your (sleep😊) day xxxxxx

Hi Team enjoying reading all your posts. Jade we have a son who lives in San Francisco and try to get theree every 2 years. We’ve been to New York Washington Boston & travelled the Rockies from Yellowstone to Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. Heading over next year for 9 weeks.
Thanks for the great encouraging post for the new year CG. Yes we’ll be back onto 5:2 with a vengeance I reckon. Sometimes I don’t learn….last night we ate out and I had a pumpkin ravioli with a gorgonzola sauce. It was to die for …..but I also felt like dying too!!! Well not quite but too rich for my tummy these days. So tonight for NYE we decided just something simple like fish & chips on the beautiful wharf at Fremantle looking out over the water. Unless they have something a bit healthier! Or maybe even buy our own stuff and have a picnic on the beach. Won’t be late either I assure you!

PH I take my hat off to you. You’re one aussie determined lady to do that! Well everyone have a delightful NYE and a happy and healthy year ahead. Let’s all look forward to reaching our 5:2 goals in 2016 however many kilos or health benefits that may be!! sjxxxx

Hi everyone both near and far. Jade re politics. Feel free to rant. We’ve had four Prime Ministers here in about the same number of years. We are hoping the current one behaves more rationally than his predecessor. We were discussing Doald Trump yesterday and wondering what poor Orangutan was scalped in order to provide his hideous wig. You do live in an interesting country. I’ve only ever passed through it on my way to Canada.
Well team I’ve managed to loose 10 kilograms since starting the 5:2 in mid January last year. I then had an never ending dose of the flu plus a bad knee and gained two kilos, which I’ve not manged to shift – YET. So I am 8 kilos less than I was this time last year. My aim is to lose another 8. I do still have the bulging tummy which just has to go by this time next year.
We are not planning any new year eve celebrations other than some prawns on the barbie. Plus calamari and Oysters. Some salads too.
Up – did you get my email?
Happy New Year’s Eve all and see you next year.
    XX Doggy.

CG – I can only get to post when OH doesn’t need his computer so that’s why I might not be here as often as I’d like.
SJ – your NYE sounds perfect. My older girl will be coming home after finishing work at 8pm so she might just about stay awake until midnight! The younger one was at a 21st birthday party last night and got home at 3pm today…..oh, to be young!! She has no plans yet to go out but that could all change at the drop of a hat. So I think it will be very quiet here – maybe a little peach schnapps and then bed! I’m also fasting tomorrow so it will be a very small celebration. Looking forward to seeing some loss since jumping back on the horse!

Dawg – that’s a wonderful loss for the year…..well done!! What a brilliant achievement to look back on and a great foundation for the losses to come in 2016.

Just back from the store, golly it’s hot out there. My home os lovely and cool so the “4” of us are quite comfortable, although must find Maggie and bring her in to.
Doggy you do have so much to be proud of, that’s a wonderful loss in a year, plus that flu you had was never ending, congratulations 😃
Fit I totally understand your situation with the computer, I just missed your early morning (here) post ☺️ it’s a lovely way to start my day xxxxxxx

Dear AD team. CG, GG, Lotus, Gypsy, Up, SJ, Fit, Milena, PH, Noots, Jade, I do hope I’ve not left anyone off. It’s been a pleasure sharing my 5:2 experiences with you all plus all the other topics we’ve covered. Here are a few. Dieting is excluded. – Constipation, makeup, what to wear, what not to wear, family dramas, men, animals +++, books, aches and pains, operations, fires, floods, difficult people, politicians, clothes again, recipes, holidays, travel. I’m sure I’ve left so many off.
May the new year bring you all good health for yourselves and your loved ones. Plus good friends and so much more. Also don’t forget to laugh when you get the chance.
Don’t drink all the champers tonight but if you do that’s OK too as tomorrow is a whole new year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL

    ⏱📢🕕🎉🎈🎊🌈🍾🍺🍴🍷🍸🍽

Thanks for reminding us Doggie of the weird (in the nicest possible way!!!) wonderful world that is aussie determination and everything we’ve discussed shared encouraged commiserated over and most of all supported each other on our journeys!
May it continue in 2016 with more laughter love caring and compassion….personally I think we’re all up there in the compassion stakes!! Sj xxxx
