  • Hi All!
Well the world of AD is coming back to rights again; Up and Gyps back in the fold….aahhhh!
CG – I agree that fruit has to be better for us than all the added sugars of processed food but I suppose moderation is still the key. I totally pigged out on green and red grapes yesterday; just couldn’t stop popping them into my mouth and this morning that pesky half kg is back again. Never mind; I’ll get rid of it again after the weekend. Well done on sorting out your wardrobe, very satisfying! πŸ™‚
PH – I am so thrilled for you on your amazing loss; you really deserve it!! πŸ™‚ What a wonderful start to the festive season. Your kids have all done very well for themselves and you have given them a great start in life by seeing them through university. Enjoy the Christmas tree; how lucky to get one already decorated – brilliant! The carol service at school was always one of my favourite times…there’s nothing quite like hearing children singing to tug at the heart strings <3
Gyps – your posts are always brilliant; they are like going on a magical mystery tour. We never know where you’re going to take us but it’s never boring, that’s for sure. I just love all the photos – your homestead is beautiful inside and out; you can feel the history coming off the page and you have turned it into a real wonderland for Christmas. I’m sure all the WTF gang can’t wait to test all those ‘medicinal’ potions that are maturing nicely – well done on keeping them out of the clutches of your visitors!! The photo of you and the Gawdmother is lovely and you both look very slim and hale. You complement each other in every way! Your trips sounds very exotic to me; you are a real pioneer and a true gypsy. Have a great time with your son and hope all goes well with the leprechaun and the medics. And, well done on not gaining as well; what a result!!!! Xxxxx
GG – hope your OH is feeling better soon and that you get to put your feet up too. XX
Up – don’t be disappointed with the photo…..reality is so much better and I’m sure you looked lovely. My older daughter did psychology too and an extra year to do her Master’s; so it’s sounds pretty similar to your daughter’s course. It’s very hard to get a job here though, as there is very little money in the economy for psychological services no matter how badly they are needed. Best of luck to your girl for the future πŸ™‚
SJ – glad you had a great day at the winery etc. It’s raining hard here all morning but my lovely OH is going to drive me in to my afternoon tea so I don’t have to get the bus and walk….he’s a gem! I think we’re all the same about photos of ourselves – too critical!! We are looking and feeling better than a year ago, so let’s get on with life and enjoy ourselves!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
Ok, gang. Gotta go and beautify myself for seeing my old school pals….if I take some photos I might even let them be posted here!! πŸ˜† Enjoy the rest of the weekend y’all!!!! Xxxxx

Good morning team, good evening Fit, I hope you had a terrific time with your old school friends including lots of catch up and laughs. I bet they all notice a beautifully slim you are too ? I doubt the few extra treats over Xmas will show on you or Up, you have both done so well.
Totally agree with the fault in our cameras. They never look as good as the bath room mirror. I have always preferred candid photos but not of me……any more! I’m wondering too if it’s age that’s showing as well. Putting makeup on and doing our hair is face on, one we have watched change over many years on a daily basis, but the camera shows the whole effect, doesn’t seem to do us justice. Still, I look at others and think how lovely they look so wonder if we are just overly critical and still expect to see ourself as we looked many years ago? Now it’s just warts an’ all ? but overall, still happy with the shop window reflection and shape change ? it doesn’t show the wrinkley skin on my arms, or wobbly bits on my belly ?
Bad night with reflux and bile regurgitation, so still learning what I can and can’t eat yet. As with very nearly getting caught our at the chiro’s on Friday. All trial and error, but had a nice sleep in and woke to a warm still morning. Top of 27 so sounds a prefect day, as is any day I wake up!
Plan for your fast tomorrow team, this time of year, as we know, is extra important. Enjoy the day and pleasures it brings and be kind to yourself. 5:2 is only part of our life, not all of it, we can all afford to be a little indulgent our portion control is what helps so don’t sweat the small stuff team, life is too short ☺️ xxxxxx

Well, I made it to Dublin….we had to drive through a couple of minor floods on the road but nothing too serious. We met at a very posh hotel and had a lovely meal with wine and a couple of peach schnapps, of course!! It was great seeing everyone again so soon after the reunion and I think there are a good few of us who live relatively near to one another so we will definitely meet up again soon. I don’t have any coffee dates next week so I’m hoping to do a couple of good fasts to help get ready for Christmas week.

Mornin’ CG – our posts crossed. I was much, much slimmer when I was a school girl but being that thin would not suit me now! So I’m happy enough with where I am, another 2/3kg down would be great but I’ll do it slowly and without putting myself under pressure. I’m not going to be sad and disappointed after Christmas this year and that’s for sure!! Enjoy your lovely weather and hope you’re feeling better ((( )))

Morning all, FIT. . glad you made it to the reunion and are dreaming sweet dreams at the moment. Your OH is a Gem..driving through floods to take you to something special.
Nice overcast day here today. Just the ticket to get in and do some outside jobs in the garden without getting too hot. Have a great day all.

Thanks PH! Hope you enjoy your day in the garden and that the weather stays just right for you xx

Morning all. CG, Did They leave your gall bladder intact and just remove stones? makes a difference. It will settle down either way, but won’t be so finite in release of bile (for fat digestion) if the bladder is gone. It has to come via the liver, as in maybe gush or slow – and leave undigested fat in your tum, to cause a sick feeling, or too much burns and churns – hence reflux. Can be like that after trauma to G bladder, too. Needs healing time. So best way to gain control is to keep a track of your fats to see which ones cause the upsets. It’s all far more complex than we know, but I believe the density of fats makes a difference (to bile release) light fats like milk and butter are usually okay, but fat on meat and maybe cheeses might be best limited for a while. Fruit, fish and lean chicken is always a good standby. Hang in there, love, you should be able to gobble turkey for Xmas!

Hat’s off to you, Purple! taking your brother in hand and helping the kids community. Glad you got an xmas tree out of it. we all hate our fotos, but I think CG is right about our eye’s not seeing beyond the obvious loss of youth. I see ‘really’ old and wrinkled folk as beautiful in a special way, there is such grace in their character lines (Mother Theresa, for instance and my gran) why can’t we apply the same grace to ourselves? It’s our vanity, girls. But that will temper to just feeling less bogged down with age if we keep healthy, quality of life overrides the mirror when you are happy despite it! (my self revelation for the week.)

FIT. great to hear from you! thankyou for the uplifting words. I do sometimes feel I’m an odd silly old chook scratching around in the scrub with fairy lights. But people like you make the effort worth doing. God save me from a world where magic is no more! Love the time you take to give kind words to individuals. You would have been a great teacher I reckon. and still are. Keep warm. cold floods I couldn’t imagine. All the kids go out swimming in the street when it floods here! Glad you enjoyed your class reunion. Cheers to you and yours. xx

hope the rest of you rise and shine to a good day. Am trying hard to find a day to fast in peace. but off to the pub raffles now. So it won’t be today or tomorrow (another city run) Cheers all. xx gyps

Hi all. I was MIA yesterday as I’m still in the throes of last minute shopping plus other seemingly endless chores. Gypsy good to see you back again. I’ve rather speed read all your posts so excuse me for not being up to speed with you all. GG I’m glad you are enjoying your new job. Yes sometimes it’s hard to bite one’s tounge and say nothing. I mut admit to being a bit of a pendant and find it hard to do.
CG I’m sure I will pop onto our site every few days, if not daily. As we live in a different state from our kids and grandies, I want to be able to spend as much time with them as possible. Mind you, they are all very outdoorsy types and there will be lots of beach walking, rock climbing done. I’m no longer able to do that so
Will take the opportunity to see what is going on with you all. I’ve decided that I will have a FD tomorrow. The family arrive on Thursday so I won’t be doing that.
    Take care team.
    ??

Hi team, absolutely glorious day here especially after the cold snap of the last week. I have been “playing” in my garden, no surprise I guess to those who know me, trimming lavender and daisies etc, all very pretty. The bulbs are at an end and look untidy, but need to leave as is for the goodness to feed next years flowers. So watering too, I have a huge big drum on a stand of cow/horse poo tea which my pots and tomatoes just love, the pleasures of country living ?
Gyps you of all people, I find it awfully hard to believe you don’t see magic in the world, it’s everywhere, just open the eyes dear friend. You are such a big part of it too to so many ? and thankyou Matron for the on going care. Yes, they took it all, no weight loss though, ? but finding what doesn’t go through me or make me queezy as last night is an on going challenge. Sticking with my nomal diet of meat and salads, plenty of fruit is fine, but last night had a pasty and think the pastry did the damage (and it wasn’t that nice either, just an urge) seeing the surgeon on Wednesday for follow up. Positive thoughts to you and the lepricorn for your follow up doctors visits ☺️
Doggy, you enjoy your family, oh so precious times, they remember more the time you spend with them rather than a clean house or anything else ? we will always be here. Same with you all of you team, it is a busy time of year and even if you can afford a minute or two to post a quick note it would be appreciated by us all as a team ? but we also understand if you can’t, life must go on, but your incouragement and understanding is here for you when needed ?
Hope you are enjoy this wonderful day, life is for living so be part of it xxxxx

Afternoon/evening all – just 2.30pm here. Had a lovely lunch under the wisteria on the back patio. Grilled up some haloumi with a salad & tricked some bottled balsamic glaze onto it…gee was yummy! And a large glass of sav.
Off to tackle the next venetian blind…only doing one a day, that’s enough for my back/neck. Might also tackle the kitchen cupboards outside & in. Then a book I reckon. Oh and a walk as we’re trying to pick that up again after dropping the ball on the exercise. Gotta get the bod moving again. Just had a coffee for brekky this morning after yesterday’s indulgences. May balance things out a little & a very light tea.
    Catch you later. suejen XXXX

Golly sj you are working up a dust storm over there ? it takes me all day to do my kitchen cupboards and that doesn’t include the pantry. I could use you here for a week ☺️ (PLEASE) time you had a rest dear friend, your back and neck will thank you and your lunch sounds so yuuummmm ? xxxxxxx

Just checking in after a hectic day of pre Christmas socializing. Raffles done and dusted, great crowd, good result. And I’m loaded up with homemade chutneys, pickles, and all manner of edible goodies. That’s the thing about small towns. Everyone gives to their neighbours and I don’t have the heart to say I’m on an eating plan that doesn’t really include white Christmas and rum balls! (So the boy will go home with his goody basket full.

CG, didn’t mean to give the impression that I don’t believe in magic. Just praying I never have to be without it. Or stuck with the type of people who kill it! You and the mob don’t have to worry. we are all alive and well in that dept. Feeling a little pixilated so heading for the coffee pot. will be away again tomorrow. Have a good day all. nite gyps

CG don’t worry our lunch lasted a long time as such a lovely day. Then muddled round a bit then decided on a walk and a coffee. And now too late to start anything!! Never mind….always tomorrow ..or the next day!!! πŸ™‚ sj

Oh sounds perfect sj, isn’t it lovely to do whatever strikes the mood ? I had no intention on spending so much time in the garden, with other chores planned, but on such a perfect day, it just beckoned me out and there I stayed, and loved every minute. Pretty tender in the back now, but hopefully a good nights sleep will fix that ? xxx

    Hi All!
Gyps – it’s easy to believe in magic when we have it in abundance here on this thread; the magic of friendship even though most of us have never met!! It’s real and working its spell on us all – look how we’ve all been transformed in the last months/year πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So glad to hear your raffles went well; you always manage to do so much good for others and to enjoy yourself in the process!! Way to go, Gyps!! πŸ˜‰ Enjoy all those goodies given with such good hearts; no doubt you will find they’ll come in handy when all your visitors arrive.
Dawg – hope you get to log in here whenever the opportunity arises but most importantly, that you get to enjoy every moment with family – precious times xxxx Best of luck with FD too.
CG – you are so right to make the most of your wonderful garden when the weather allows. You paint such a vivid picture of all those glorious flowers that I almost feel I’m there. πŸ™‚ Sounds like Gyps has given you some good advice, so I hope you find out what triggers your upset tummy etc in good time to be able to enjoy all the treats of Christmas. Best of luck with the surgeon on Wed xxxx
SJ – wow, lunch outside under the wisteria!! While, I’m sitting here wrapped up in layers with the heating on full blast!!!!! Not fair!! πŸ˜‰ No wonder the housework took a back seat….you’re dead right!! Look after your back and neck…having some twinges myself and it’s not nice!
Gosh, GG – you’re like a whirlwind!! I feel positively lazy and useless reading about all you’ve been doing. You deserve to lose loads of kg after all your endeavours! Take good care of yourself and don’t overdo things at home or at work; you’re very precious to us xxxx
Well, it’s my turn to have my sister for Sunday lunch, so I better tidy up and then go and get her up and dressed and bring her here for the afternoon. She phoned the police during the night on Thursday and told them there was an intruder in her apartment. When the policeman arrived she told him the intruder was a member of the IS islamic terrorist group!! God knows what he made of that!!! Have a great week everyone, and happy, successful fasting!! We are all going to kick some a** this week, I can feel it in my bones!! BRING IT ON, WE CAN DO THIS!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Oh dear, Fit! Funny but not funny!

Lots of news from everyone, reading it all but no time to reply!

First day of fasting in ages. I have got to get a start on the last 5 kilos even if it is slowly this time of year. Last night Woolies was selling pavlova shells for 70cents!!! As my husband loves a pav, even bought, at that price I had to buy it. had large serves last night, the rest may have to be binned!

Yes, I have lots of jobs planned over the next week, something about this time of year. Have a good day all.

Good morning team, good evening Fit, your poor sister, living in fear like that and believing it’s all so real. Problem is I guess, if she does it too often, they will not respond and the time could come when it’s a real emergency. It could be getting close to thinking of care for her Fit. It’s a worry for you and your family and one you don’t need, you have all been so kind to her, done your “duty” as such and possibly don’t see the deterioration happening. Can you get your doctor to reassess her?
Beautiful morning here, just perfect, it’s before the extreme heat starts to hit us, good weather for shorts and t’s and still comfortable without the oppression. I’ll get a load of washing out shortly then do a bit of watering and better start some xmas wrapping so I can see who got what! I tend to pick up things through the year then hide them (from myself) so my daughter doesn’t see them. ? she is a wonderful snoop! Often unintentional but she has the knack.
GG I hope your body is ready for another week of cleaning houses, think of the exercise you are getting! All positive because it’s helping those who are unable to do it themselves. ?
PH I guess you have more social do’s on today after your exercises, enjoy, what a lovely stage of life ?
Up, I’m with you on the pav, who could resist at that price? I often find my clothes that way too, weather I need it or not, too good to pass up at a cheap price. I remember seeing an end of season sale with thongs, 50 cents, so bought 6 pairs, all different colours! But of course, storage becomes the problem, but I had matching thongs for every outfit ☺️ Also our local “Vinnies” seems to get a lot of end of season clothes from Target, around the corner…..I might not need it now but “could” next year! So….too many clothes is the end result, most now far too big, but hay, friends get the benefits as do “Vinnies” when I send them back ?
Suejen, luck to you with the continued clean up, venetian blinds are a pain to do, but I have parted with all my drapes and replaced them with verticals, another pain to clean! Anyone have an idea of easy cleaning for them? They are a type of vinyl I think, full block out and all I can think of is one slat at a time grrrr! So time consuming and not great on the back.
Gyps, safe trip to you both to the “big smoke” and positive thoughts for a good result for your. OH.
Well, time to get into things team for me, have a wonderful day, don’t be hard on yourself, you are all experienced fasters now and take it in your stride ? so don’t sweat the small stuff…..stay cool …xxxxx

Mornin’ Up and CG – thank you for your kind concern about my sister. The funny thing is she wasn’t afraid and quite readily accepted that she must have been dreaming. We have to laugh, or else we’d cry!! Yes, I think the time has come for some hard decisions so we intend to have a family conference as soon as Christmas is over and see where we go from here. The problem is she will never be as well minded in a nursing home as she is at the moment in her own apartment.
Up – enjoy the pavlova and don’t work too hard πŸ˜‰
CG – have fun with all the Christmas gifts etc…..our kids never really grow up, do they? As for your blinds, I don’t know if you have the Karcher brand of appliances over in Oz, but they make a hand-held steam cleaner which can be used on windows, blinds and even curtains. I had to laugh at your multi-coloured thongs….you know in our part of the world ‘thongs’ mean something completely different!! πŸ˜‰
Had a day of over-indulgence, so I’m looking forward to fasting this week and getting back on track. Have a great week everybody xxxx

Fit, I realised the meaning of “thongs” when I wrote it, but as you know the only ones to see me in THAT type of thongs is my boy’s! I doubt they’s be too impressed ?Hehehe, no these are definitely for my feet…hehe Actually, I do have a steam cleaner, with all the attachments, and a steam mop, I must get it “out of the box” and try it…..another one of those ‘must have’s” and never used it, thanks for the suggestion, could be a go’er ? the mop is great and also light for me to use, but the actual cleaner arrived when my back was just so bad, it was put in a cupboard with a mental promise, once I’m better, I’ll work out how to use that! xxxxxxxx

Oh, just went down and let Lexie into the bigger paddock, she was just so excited and overwhelmed with all the running space and grass to eat……I love watching the “first” of anything with young ones ? xxxxxx

Hi and a magical morning, or evening wherever you happen to be. Gypsy I don’t know if your pun was intended, but I had a chuckle, at you getting pixilated after your chat about magic. Pixies on the brain? It’s a beautiful day here and OH, Pepper and I had a lovely invigorating early morning walk. He’s just helped my make up the beds for Kim and family so that’s another chore over. I do admire those of you who have done all that cleaning of cupboards, windows etc. My linen cupboard is crying out to tidied up and sorted out but I keep on finding something more interesting to do.
This is my last FD for a few weeks so I’ll make it count. Mind you we don’t really eat junk food and our daughter doesn’t allow her kids to eat rubbish so I don’t think I’ll gain too much if I chose my portions wisely. We tend to have lots of BBQs with salads so that’s not really an issue.
Cheers all and enjoy the day. CG I hope you find out what is causing the reflux. I agree with Gypsy and would try and avoid fatty foods.
    Xx Dawg

Hi everyone. Just read through all of your posts, everyone seems very active and full of life..cleaning, partying etc I was busy making new cousins for my outdoor area yesterday till late and then just fell into bed. The back does not like sewing too long. Having a not so good day today so lucky my osteo appointment is this afternoon at 3pm. Decided not to have a fast day today..feeling a bit off in the tummy and also feeling a bit like some rest time is due so having a couch day before going to Grafton. Me thinks I maybe have overdone things a tad!! Will factor in Wednesday and Friday this week maybe an extra one on Sunday before the celebrations begin. Loving reading all the posts but not really up to a long post replying at the moment. On second thoughts I may be having a fast day as I do not feel like eating anything with this tummy. Will return when I am not such a wet blanket and get over feeling sorry for myself..

CG – how exciting to see Lexie kicking up her heels and enjoying pastures new; must be a big thrill! Hope your steam cleaner does the trick!
Dawg – glad you had a lovely walk with Pepper and OH. Have a wonderful time with your family over the next few weeks and I’m sure you will make healthy food choices as well. Xxxx
PH – it does sound like you have been overdoing it so I hope your osteo helps to sort your aches and pains. Don’t worry about fasting until your tummy settles down, eat whatever makes you feel better. You are not a wet blanket at all; we all need to let off steam once in a while and we are here to listen and cheer you up if we can!! Take care xxxx

PH we know you too well to think of you as a wet blanket. Did I read right, you made cousins last night? I realised it was a typo but got a giggle with it ? take care, it may be a tummy bug or could be your body saying “feet up time lady” ? so make the most of it.
Well I’ve just come in from the garden, probably burnt, singlet and shorts is todays attire ?but just love being out there ? so dress comfy, I seem to start on one thing which snowballs as we all know, and just kept going. I’ve even netted my tomatoes because as much as I love the birds in my garden, not very happy with what happens to my fruit or veg growing, so in some ways, it DOES look like I’m having a white xmas, with all the white bird netting everywhere ? I’ve probably blown my fast, as there’s nothing like a bowl of fresh summer fruits after being in the garden, and that’s what I had. Funny, in the past it would have been considered a healthy lunch! Boy how things have changed…..still a healthy lunch to me ?
Hang on to your AUSSIE DETERMINATION team, we are half way through our day, YOU CAN DO IT, try not to weaken and let’s BRING IT ON ? xxxxxxx

HI All having a struggle of a day but hanging in there. Had to have my HB egg at midday & now having my 4pm+ backup miso soup at not even 2pm! Might even have to make it 2 misos today & then dinner. Went for a big walk early so may have triggered my appetite who knows? Thought I’d get the walk in before it got too hot & I’ve promised myself I’m going to pick the walking back up again. My physio (who sometimes says helpful things!) said it could be a big cause of the back/neck problems starting….losing flexibility & all that.
CG luv the picture you’ve painted of Lexie in the big paddock….I can just see it!! Sounds like you’ve had a BIG day in your garden too. The grubs are getting our tomatoes not the birds.
PH were you making covers for your outdoor area was it? And sounds like you did far too much. We’re all the same aren’t we…..let us at something we love doing & we forget all about our age our limits our problems that might crop up! Hope the osteopath is good for you.
Doggie great article here to read re the festive season (in case you don’t get email alerts for these). Everyone have a read.
    https://www.fastday.com/buzz/10-tips-for-festive-fasting/?utm_source=FastDay+Emails&utm_campaign=13e5561d24-Weekly_Newsletter_10_23_11_14_11_22_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_103abfb096-13e5561d24-310025349
CG I’m cleaning my venetians with a tool from a hardware store. It has 7 prongs with fluffy covers over them & so you can fit it on & clean 6 slats at once. The covers come off & get a wash once they get too dirty…& then back into it. Pretty good but a steam cleaner would be even better no doubt. Certainly better than the other methods I tried! But you’re right not great on the back so I’m doing 1 blind a day & OH is doing the high part to avoid stretching. Should be finished by Saturday!!
UT good to have you back posting regularly.
Fit you are right that her mental health will not be as good but….the alternative is that the rest of the carers get ill trying to care for your sister. Plus there is no avoiding the fact that it is a degenerative disease & even your wonderful care cannot halt that. I saw it happen with my mum but we just couldn’t do it any more.
GG all I can say is that you must have enough energy for an entire army!! Makes me tired reading what you did. X

Well finished my miso so better get back to the blind Yuk but gotta be done. And let’s see how I go with my FD from there. My aussie determination will have to see me through I reckon. Haven’t had hunger pangs like this since I first started! sj XX

Suejen, when reading your post it hit home with me in what you said to PH, I haven’t stopped in the garden, since yesterday and the beautiful weather, my one big love, but oh golly am I feeling it! No doubt sun burnt too, but the back is really screaming at me. Note to self ; don’t go outside tomorrow….it’s addictive! So inside chores tomorrow….yuck! You are all so lucky having an OH to help with chores, if I don’t do it, it doesn’t get done ? but then again, I’m only cleaning up after myself………YOU HANG IN THERE GIRL, or bend over….feel it??? YOU CAN DO IT SUEJEN AND YOU WILL ? xxxxxxxx

Evening All, I slept like a babe last night. Today was good at my job. I took 2 panadol before I left this morning for my 4hrs. Day off tomorrow. So am going to take it easy. Wednesday I have 4 clients each requiring 2 hrs each of house cleaning.
CG -so happy young Lexie is loving her freedom in her paddock.
PH- HOPE YOU FEL BETTER SOON.We all ned sto download sometimes so never think you are a wet towel.
SJ-Hats off to you cleaning blinds… I hope none of my clients will ask that of me.
FIT-my heart goes out to you with your sr’s condition. Look after you all the time and don’t think its a cop out if you and your other sisters need more help…..ask for it. HUGS++?
Hope all of you had a pleasant FD.Enjoy your night cu tomorrow…GO GALXXXXXX

Thanks for the understanding everyone. Had a great massage and some ultrasound and then just hung from a couple of noodles in the hydro pool at Grafton to stretch everything out before driving the 60k home.. yes I have overdone it..it seems like we are all the same. Getting ready for Christmas trying to do too much. CG in her garden. Everyone cleaning everything. Bodies just not up to it anymore. Advice was to still keep going to the pool but to only do very gentle exercises to keep moving ..see how that goes and if no better then couch time for a few days.???..buggar. Still so much I want to do but thems the breaks…my cleaner coming on Wednesday so will get her to do an extra couple of hours and what is..is..and to top it all off the blasted TV has gone on the blink. And no young person around to tell me what’s wrong. Looks like I’ll have to call in a tradesman. Gyps. Can you send some of your fairy dust my way to fix things??

Things could be much worse though. Not one thing life threatening and am still waking up every morning!????

CG inside chores aren’t so bad. Do you have something for your sunburn. I keep a nice spray in the fridge that smooths and cools the skin. I’m sure there are many old remedies though. Lexie must be really enjoying her freedom.

GG —4 clients requiring 2 hours each of cleaning seems a bit much for one day?? OH&S wise..look after yourself…
Just got the call for dinner..back later. ???

So lesson for all. Ease up and look after yourselves..everything does not have to be perfect.

    Hi All!
Well my scales practically shouted at me this morning! It said: “What do you think you are doing, having six coffee dates in one week?!!!! You should have known it wasn’t going to end well!!” I thought I was keeping things under control by doing semi-fasts most of the week, but yesterday I relaxed too much and had wine, pizza, apple tart as well as big Sunday roast and all the trimmings! So now the ‘trimmings’ are nicely settled on my hips and a**!!! Oh well, back on the horse with aussie determination and a proper strict fast today….no excuses.
CG – I hope your sunburn is not too bad; I’m extremely wary of the sun now but I do love to feel it on my skin and getting into my bones…it does make you feel alive. I’m not a gardener but I know it can be addictive so take care pal. Xxxx
SJ – I hope your sensible approach of one blind per day pays off but it is a difficult job and probably uses muscles that are not used to being used! It could be a combination of walking and cleaning that has sent your appetite into overdrive and given you the unexpected hunger pangs! Never mind, it’s only one day and you can do it – you have done it before and you can do it again!! I have every faith in you xxxx. I will have a look at your link when I’m finished posting; I’m sure it will be interesting πŸ™‚
GG – that sounds like an awful lot of housework to do in one day….I hope they are not taking advantage of you. Do look after yourself; it’s so close to Christmas now and you don’t want to be laid up for the festive season. We have the maximum amount of help we can expect for our sister and we even pay for extra too; but it’s all the other chores, organizing, managing and being on-call all the time that is beginning to wear us down. My head says it’s time for her to go into care, but my heart is reluctant to give up on her….it feels like we’re letting our parents down too.
PH – we’re all the same, aren’t we? Here we all are, fussing over cleaning and nearly killing ourselves in the process. And you know what? It’s the shared fun, laughter, chat and memories that everyone will remember, not whether our houses were cobweb free!!
Having said all that, I’m off to start some house-cleaning myself. I have done a timetable of which chores are to be done each day from now until Christmas…..ridiculous, but there you are!!!! Have a wonderful week, everyone and let’s get a good fast or two under our belts (pardon the pun! πŸ˜‰ ) before all the fun begins!!

Back again to finish answering posts.

SueJen. I was making cushions for the breezeway between house and studio. I have a lovely old cane settee which is long enough to have a sleep on and the cushions I have are faded. I have painted a lot of old kitchen chairs to go around a couple of old tables inlots of colours from the 70’s, Orange, Lime
Green, bright yellow etc , also painted the legs or tops of the tables..anyway the old cane settee needs livening up so making cushions to match the chairs. ..Will post photos when I finish. Might be after Christmas now. Thanks for the link..interesting reading. I have every confidence that you managed to complete your fast today..great stuff???..Well done getting back to the walking. Regular exercise is a must to keep things mobile…

Doggy..you must be so excited waiting for your family to arrive. It is a very special time and we need to make the most of every moment. It will be so much fun to have them all around you for a few weeks. I’m sure you will get a lot of exercise as well as your walks keeping up with the younger generation. Enjoy!Enjoy!Enjoy! ??????

Fit..such a great story about your sister. Ill bet the local constabulary got a kick out of it too. Good to hear that she was quick to accept that she might have been dreaming. Sad too in a way. You have big decisions to make as a family after Christmas. Have you looked into the possibility of respite placement to have a trial re needing to go into care. That is what we did with my mother. We organised 3 weeks respite just to give me a break and when she got there she liked it, she said having people her own age around her was refreshing and that she then realised how lonely she was living on her own with us just visiting. She missed her own home and came home again but then decided to apply for a permanent room. This was at the time when she was needing someone to shower her each day and bring her meals because of mobility..not dementia. Just a thought!!
Your daughter must be just about home now for the holidays. Have a wonderful time with her and treasure the memories. ??

Gyps. What a lovely tradition, sharing home made cooking..we used to do that in the village I grew up in. Would have cake stalls and we would end up taking as many to give away to people as to sell. Lovely to see it still happening somewhere. Hope you get good results. Thinking of you and the Leprechaun ..

    UP. Pavlova!!! yummooooo..my fav dessert.

Remember…we are not as young as we used to be so don’t clean everything in the house all at once..or all of the garden at once. Pace yourselves!!!!!???? This includes anyone I’ve missed…Milena, Noots and those not popping into my memory at the moment,,

Fit ..our posts crossed. I too have a revised list of what needs doing each day..but there is no cleaning or painting included anymore..just reading interesting recipes etc and thinking up fun things to do while I rest my aching back…As CG advises. I’m not sweating the small stuff. What the cleaner can’t do ain’t gettin done!!! I’m sure nobody will even notice.

You will have to give those scales of yours a good talking to..fancy yelling at you when they know it’s the silly season. β˜•οΈ??? hope your FD goes well and you don’t get any surprise visitors, also it is the time of year for you that it is the hardest to knock back lovely warm food whereas we are all hot and really not looking for anything but salads and something light.

Perhaps consider that your parents would be understanding of the fact that the best outcome for all of you may be to consider care and follow your head. As I said before. Difficult time for the family. Focus on Christmas ????????and when the time comes the decision will be clear….????

Well it’s bedtime aaand…..I MADE it!! Just I’d have to say. Going a little early so I don’t sneak into the pantry. Yes Fit the early morning long walk with just a coffee in the tum sent me into overdrive I think. I can usually manage till about 4pm for my first HB egg but not today. Didn’t actually count cals today but would have been just over 500 I think.
Hope everyone else had a successful FD? We need them to be at this time of year…need all the help 5:2 can give us! PH sounds like a few days off for you. gluttons for punishment aren’t we. Your machine might have to be silent for a little while.
Night night all. suejen XXXX taking my grumbly tummy to bed.

PH – so glad you have amended your duties to ones where you can sit and take care of yourself. You can be an armchair general; calling out the orders!!! πŸ˜‰
SJ – well done on hanging tough and completing your FD despite the grumbling tummy! It’s 3pm here and I just had a black coffee so far. Trying not to listen to my own tummy and concentrating on getting my own back on that damned scales in the morning!! πŸ˜†

Fit. You can do this fast day.. Thinking of you each time I wake up. You have the AUSSIE DETERMINATION to make this happen. You will show those scales who is Boss!! Keep strong..???nice hot miso soup should warm you right through. You can do this????

Thank you so much, PH – it’s so kind and thoughtful of you to keep me going. It’s now 8.30 pm and I’ve had 450 cals if my calculations are correct, so I’m feeling good and strong. I have never seen miso soup here but haven’t really looked – so that is something I will definitely follow up on, especially as we are heading real winter weather now. Hope you get a good sleep and wake up with no aches and pains xx

Good morning team, evening Fit, we all seem to have struggled with our fasting for some reason. Are we burning so much energy that we need the extra fuel? It is a busy time for us all and we are pushing ourselves. Team, relax, it is only a short time wrapped around a special day, but a time for family and friends wanting to be together. Do you really think they will notice if your chores are done or not? Being together with loved ones is something to look forward to and if you are exhausted from all the extra pressures you are putting on yourselves, you wont enjoy the time as much? so relax, they love you for who you are, not how spotless your home is. It’s human to want everthing looking its best when guests arrive but you manage when they blow in unanounced and enjoy the visit just as much, so relax and put your feet up for some time and look forward to the festive times ahead. ? Try not to be so critical of your surrounds, it’s home, it’s your home and a welcoming place where family and friends feel the love ? not a cold display house.
Fit so much great advise offered to you from PH, I have been on the other end working in nursing homes and know the care the residents get. It’s 24 hours everyday which no family, no matter how loving they are can give. They do make friends their own age with similar life stories, the get three meals every day and are watched that they ARE eating they are kept clean and medication given as needed. They do enjoy entertainment from visiting choirs or sing alongs etc. their lives are quite full. Your parents hearts would be bursting with pride with what you have done already and with your sister helping but remember they love you and your sister too and would want you to have a full life of your own ? It’s not my place to offer suggestions but please do think about what is on offer for her and have the family discussion, I’m sure the right decision will be made. You can also bring her home for a Sunday roast, or take her shopping, it is not a prison ☺️ my thoughts are with you dear friend. By the way, I’d be asking Santa for a new set of scales….with better manners?
Suejen, it’s awful when a fast has that effect. Mostly they just fly by but some can be a real battle. I didn’t get to sleep till after 3:00am, fast related I’m sure. I find sometimes I will fast on an “off” day with no problems, it happens with no planning but it’s NOT forced, it’s NOT a rule, I’m not letting myself or anyone else down if I blow it ? as there is no pressure. I wonder if we do get tired of following the rules and need a break from the routine but well done on letting your AUSSIE DETERMINATION get you through. After that struggle, I bet you aren’t even hungry this morning, our bodies are so strange the way they react.
The weather is still lovely here so all doors and windows are open and loving the smells coming in. Just a day of pottering ahead, bit of ironing after my home care girl goes then I will wing it. It’s surprising how quickly a day goes when just pottering ? but how many mountains can be moved too! Enjoy the day team, please take some pressure off your self and enjoy the season, don’t think of this time of year as meaning “work” it’s a fun caring, loving time of year so enjoy it ? xxxxxxxxx

Mornin’ CG – very sound advice regarding Christmas and all the fuss and bother we put ourselves through. That’s why I decided to do a very relaxed and doable timetable, so that I won’t be stressed at the last minute. I really hate feeling under pressure for time when a deadline is approaching; so making sure things are done and ticked off my list is very comforting to me. I’m sounding a bit like a control freak but I know I’m going to have a lovely time with family and friends even if every last job on the list is not done. With regards to my sister, I know alot of what you say about nursing homes can be true but the choice near us is not great. We have experienced a few of them with other family members and they all fall short of what she’s getting at the moment. On the other hand, we can’t keep doing what we’re doing for much longer so you’re right that we have to life our lives too. Your advice and care is much appreciated, especially since you have professional experience. Xxxxx

Greetings fellow AD team. SJ thanks for the link. I’m going to have a read of it after this. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m the odd one out here as far as housecleaning goes. I hate it and pay someone else to do it for me. This has not always be the case though as I couldn’t afford it in past. Mind you I am fussy about good hygiene and my kitchen and bathroom, loo etc are always spotless. I know I drive my poor hubby mad as I’m constantly having to remind him to wash his hands etc prior to eating. I guess it a nurse thing.
We all know that this time of year puts extra stress on people. It’s all strange psychology when one thinks about it. All this fuss leading up to one specific day in the year. Most eat and drink too much, many get involved in horrific accidents or family fights and then it’s all over for another year.
My FD yesterday went well. I eat the last of the Lean Cuisine Malaysinan Laksa soup to make more room in the freezer. A couple of BH eggs and fish and salads. So that will be my last Fast Day for a few weeks. I’m looking forward to the break. A change is as good as a fest and all that.
CG, sunburn ouch. Take care. Did anyone see the test done by Choice? Not all factor 50 is what it says. Evidently the sunblock put out by The anti Cancer Coucil is the best. I’m going to buy some for the kids today. The UV in Tassie is very high and I’ve had worse sunburn here than I got in Victoria. That could also be because we have a beautiful beach and the sea a few minutes down the road.
    ???????

Hi team, homecare here so getting out of her way, useless girl, this morning I pulled so many “light” things out to show her how easy it is rather than vac’ing only up the middle. Every week I go around after her, which I shouldn’t have to! Anyway she’s the one I’m stuck with at the moment, I’ve had others who were great, but moved on and the shire hate paying petrol money so have them working closer to their own homes….whinge over!!!
The stock feed place came before and all the feed bins are now full again as is the milk powder for Lexie, $85 a bag!!! So maybe that will explain why farm foods and stock are so expensive!
Beautiful day again, my sunburn isn’t bad at all, just a bit of colour and I’m sure more will follow as does each year. I’m pretty fair skinned but tan up well ? but so much damage from years of being a sun worship type of outdoorsy girl ?is whats causing all my skin problems. I must admit I’m pretty lax with moisturisers too, so my skin is awfully dry….I sound like I’m falling to pieces don’t I. Just a typical Aussie girl from my generation ?
Ironing after lunch today which I don’t mind doing in front of a movie, enjoy your day team, Fit, please don’t stress over your sister, answers come when at least expected so I’m sure it will all work out for you and your family ☺️ xxxxxxx

Morning ADers beautiful morning here. I’m hoping that it’s telling me that summer is really here rather than the spring/summer/autumn/winter weather we’ve had until now….really unusual.
CG I’ve had a few cleaners like the one you mention & that’s partly why I do it myself but also hate parting with the money for it! While I can I’ll do it but I know that the day is coming…for now it’s keeping me active & more flexible I hope. Managed to get onto a waiting list for the osteopath for next year so very happy with that – mid Jan by the sound of it. Then I’ll quietly withdraw from my pilates class with my physio & book into the other one I’ve found that’s well supervised & half the price. Could also do the Living longer living stronger class that’s at the rec centre for $7.50 & still be better off! It’s subsidised by the council for the ageing or similar. They assess you individually but then you follow your program with a class of ladies. Have one session today with my physio then going to call it quits till next year as don’t think we’ve made much improvement. But the walking is helping.
Doggie you’re not the odd one out as far as house cleaning goes. I don’t like it so don’t do it often enough & then of course it’s in a bad state!! Certainly not a perfectionist with bathrooms etc as you are. But doing a house exchange as we are makes you open your eyes to the state of things & get cracking!! Did 2 kitchen cupboards in & out yesterday & try for 2 more today plus one more venetian blind. Amazing how you can come up with a MUCH more sensible arrangement when you put stuff back in & you think Why the hek didn’t I arrange it like that in the first place? So much easier to get at!!
Fit I’m with you….maybe it’s a teacher thing?! I like my list of what’s to do but I DO tend to overestimate what can be done each day, but getting better. It’s not a control freak Fit it just means that you’ve planned it out well & that removes the stress from the event. We each have our different ways of doing things.
CG you’re right I went to bed thinking about bacon & eggs or a toastie for brekky & then just had cereal with our lovely fresh raspberries/blackberries/loganberries on top. We have soo many that I’ll need to freeze some but at least that’s easily done.
PH hope you’re having a easy day?!

Well better get to work or I’ll achieve nothing. I like things done early in the day so I can relax later. Enjoy your day team. suejen XXXX

It’s funny, CG. My daughter did an impersonation of me earlier, as a joke, buying too many mince pies because they are reduced each year. Haven’t bought any yet. I am a bit of a stickler for tradition and don’t eat them for all the months they are on sale. I’m the same with Hot Cross Buns. Nothing is special if we have them any old time.

My daughter has also been teasing me while we were cleaning out a cupboard that has long been neglected. To her it was buried treasure seeing the things I have stashed away since we got rid of our china cabinet years ago. She loved hearing the stories behind pieces if i knew them. Finally she said, “you know when you’re dead I’m taking this stuff straight to Antiques Road Show!”

I am actually resurrecting a “coffee set” of my mothers that I always thought was useless with those small cups. Of course with our more sophisticated coffee culture these days, I may as well use it. I have washed up a few things and only recently learned that you are supposed to do that every so often to stop things from crazing or cracking.

Now, I am going to be stuck with polishing some silver if it isn’t already too late. We haven’t got that far yet.

Fasted Ok yesterday although may have gone over 500 as I ate my usual fare but added in some left over couscous with currants etc that may have taken me over, but healthy enough anyway.

Feeling good about being back on track! Have a good day all.

Hi all, late posting today..went to the pool at 10 with the physio only to find out there was a Christmas party at 10 and the pool was at 11 today. Nice surprise. So had coffee and cakes! Rum balls etc. β˜•οΈ?? did not really feel like excercising after that but did the class anyway. Just was careful and felt great afterwards. So decided to look at TV,s …not sure if I mentioned that our TV carked it yesterday. Anyway just went to two stores the second being my fav. jB Hi-FI. The staff at our store are just amazing. They gave me lessons on how to set it up, and explained everything it can do etc. wow can new Models do stuff. Have wireless already and can access the Internet direct. Nothing like the old ones ????. Now to learn how to drive the thing properly. Lucky my daughter is coming home soon. So I’ll have a challenging time, after my couch time , setting it up..
No sewing or housework for me today. Don’t like housework anytime so it is not a problem to have to leave it. My cleaner comes in tomorrow and so have decided to give her an extra hour to do the stuff I usually do.
My visitors know that I don’t cook and can’t do housework so not many expectations there. However they do bring with them anything that needs altering that they can’t manage and do the cooking etc while I sew for them. Works well.. ???. An

Well done FIT and SueJen for getting through your fasts days with rumbling tummies…???? and Fit I have the armchair General Role perfected. Had a lot of practice over the past few years. And SueJen I often go to bed early on fast days so I won’t be tempted to raid the fridge etc. works for me. Pleased you got into the waiting list for the osteo. Mine is my lifesaver. The massage is heavenly but I guess they all work differently. Sounds like a good thing the council has running there for exercises for the ageing..which is what we are, even if we don’t think of ourselves as getting older. It’s funny how you never imagine yourself getting older. Still think we can do everything we want. And luckily mostly we manage to modify things so that we still can. That’s what life is all about.

UP. My daughter takes the Micky out of me too. Ain’t it grand they feel that they can. I too have a lovely coffee set that I think I’ll being out now you mention it. A wedgewood one given to me for my wedding. Beautiful. Always thought the small cups were a bit silly but now that short black coffee is more common. Could use it.

Have. Great day all weather ironing, chilling out, cleaning or just doing your thing. Cheers PH

    Good evening team……especially FIT.
Work is coming in thick and fast ,so much for a day of R&R today.
CG- I know how you feel with useless home care….I do hope that I never fall into that catorgorie.
FIT- Never ever feel guilty about all the wonderful things that you and your sisters do for your sister. There comes a time when we all have to do what is best for the one we hold so dear to us. I crossed that plain so often with my Dad… but gave in that between my sisters and I , we could nothing more in our, power to do what Dad ultimately wanted. Darling I am with you all the way and respect the difficulty that you are facing. Rest easy she is in a world that we cannot at our stage of life cannot comprehend. Your sister is safe in HER WORLD .
PH- slow down girl …you are moving as fast as me! after tomorrow I really am going to put the breaks on.

Each of us are doing so well with our AUSSIE DETERMINATION…. Take time to reflect back this time of the year, which is for celebrating so many blessed things. Our achieviments, whether they be weight loss or new founded friendships, grieving our loss of those that will not be at our Christmas tables. The trials of life that will continue to plageue us into a new year.WE can conqure them all, because we have each other. We have become an unique , incredible, strong group. THE MAGIC WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US!!!!.
TODAY, IS THE TOMORROW YOU WORRIED ABOUT YESTERDAY…….LOVE YOU ALL….GO GAL XXXXX

    Hi All!
Just a very quick hello as I’m chasing my tail today. Collected my brother and SIL from airport bus to our local village, they’re back from four weeks in OZ!!! So jealous! Now I’m going to lunchtime concert in Dublin to get into the Christmas spirit…classical music and carols in the national concert hall πŸ™‚ Then my own church choir practice when I get home. Then hosting same brother, SIL, sister and BIL for dinner this evening so we can hear all about travels in Oz and get all the news about our two nieces who live there. Phew!!!! At least, it should keep me away from grazing all day. Thank you all for you kindness, advice and understanding re my family situation. Talk soon xxxxxx

GG no problems with you EVER being in that category, you have so much get up and go, this lass leaves her “battery” at the door I think! You will notice on your rounds especially when filling in for those on holidays, how slack some of the carers get. It used to upset me, these people need help, they not only pay for it but appreciate it so much.they are so trusting.
Fit, what a day you have had and maybe still having, get a good nights sleep you will need it ? but above all I hope you enjoyed it.
I just has a pretty sad and worrying phone call from my daughter, I’ll discuss it tomorrow, nighty night all xxx

Good morning team, evening Fit, Fit I hope you had a lovely evening and your probably ready for bed now ?
Both my children have psorisis, it’s a skin disease which flares up then settles but never leaves them. No particular trigger is known but stress will flare it with both of them. They are both under a skin specialist and my daughter is meticulous with her creams and they both have UV therapy. Leah stopped the UV because of the damage it was doing to her normal skin. Glenn is a bit more careless with his, he uses the cream for a few days then “forgets” basically can’t be bothered. He does have the UV regularly. Leah, being a girl gets awfully embarressed but like I said is dilligent with her treatment. The last couple of years she has been getting alergic congungtivitis in her eyes, so seeing eye specialists and spending a fortune on eye drops. Last night she went to the local doctor, a locum was on, the hayfever weather has been giving her billio with her eyes. The bad worrying news is the locum has diognosed the problem as psorisis in her eyes! When she phoned me, it was after a couple of hours of crying, my heart is breaking as I can’t help her. She is very lucky in having a supportive loving husband who told her they will ride it through together, and she is one lady with heaps of Aussie Determination, but this can lead to so many problems for her in the future. She will be phoning her skin specialist but doubts she will be able to see him before Xmas as he goes o/s to confrences this time of year. She does have a lot of faith in him and he is always up with the latest with this disease. Very sad time for us as a family team.
As you can understand, I’m feeling quite flat this morning. I’m heading over to see my surgeon which is just over an hour away so better get moving
This years has bought us so many medical issues, roll on New Years Eve!
I’m sorry to start my post with a downer but so desperately need to share this with you. Count your blessings team, take care…xxxxx

CG, I feel for you. I only get a tiny bit of psoriasis in my scalp but I have seen it all over people and feel for them. My own daughter has suffered from bad eczema all her life and can shred herself in her sleep. I feel badly for her, always dry , always itchy and usually with scratch marks down her legs and arms.
Skin problems are awful and I hope there is some treatment option that will help your daughter.

My daughter and I are about to finish off the cupboard, I can’t wait till it is done. PH, the coffee set that I am talking about is Wedgewood too! Sky Blue. I also have a Susie Cooper one from my mother in law. My daughter said dhe is pleased that she lives in an era when people don’t give you things that you are too scared to use and that sit in the cupboard doing nothing. She has a point but eventually she will no doubt get her share of this stuff when I cark it.

Do you think anyone would come to a silver polishing party? πŸ˜‰

Thanks Up, yes they are related, such a common problem too and they don’t seem any closer to a cure now than when I was a kid. Great idea with the party and I wish you luck ? re the good “stuff” in the cupboards, I have always told my kids, I’d rather break a crystal glass enjoying a nice wine out of it than breaking it when dusting it……things SHOULD be used and enjoyed, not just displayed to collect dust…..xxxx
