  • Afternoon all late posting today as is usual for me on Sundays. It’s almost dinnertime for lots of you.
UT can sympathise with you re the anxiety. I’m not usually an anxious person but have my moments. Have had strong bouts of it since the split with my daughter recently. I would call it a panic attack at times but counselling has helped quite a lot. Yours sounds far more ongoing. I’m glad as you’ve had it so long that you now have better treatments for it. And certainly with any form of mental stress it is helpful to let others know & not pretend you’re just FINE. My daughter hid her problems all her life & was always such a strong outgoing personality that we had no idea what she was going through till her late 20’s. CG & Dawg sounds like we all have our moments. CG I do have to stop like you say and think sometimes “Will this situation or whatever matter in 6 months time???” ie you’re late for something or you messed up bigtime or you had to apologise to someone or you’re worried about someone or something. Almost always in 6 months time it won’t matter to you or the other party as it will have resolved….it’s small picture stuff that we often get hang-ups on when compared to life and death big picture stuff.
CG will be interesting to see how you go on your new routine & sure hope that it lifts the plateau for you. And GG is trying a water fast so we’re all trying different avenues to get moving again. Good to see that we still have the desire & the motivation to lose more after such long plateaus. And certainly that’s the beauty of 5:2 that you don’t lose heart or give up because it’s all too difficult. We all know it’s not at all difficult….yes we have our odd difficult days but it’s really just following a routine once we get going!

So into planning and preparation for FD tomorrow. Enjoy that glass of wine or Jim Beam tonight ready for some serious FD action tomorrow. And it’s only for ONE DAY – how good is that?! Come on guys we can do this, we’re Aussie Determination and WE CAN DO THIS!!!! suejen XXXX

    Hi All!
Our clocks went back an hour last night, so we are officially into wintertime now…yuck! The mornings will be brighter for commuters and workers which is good I know, but the days will be shorter and darker earlier which can be depressing. Oh well, just have to make more of an efort to get out and about in the middle of the day and grab whatever daylight I can. Yesterday turned out to be an absolute beaut – I had my patio doors open all day long while doing my big clean-up; it was fantstic weather for the end of October.
GG – You sure are our 4 Ps expert and it will pay off for you, I’m sure. Isn’t it interesting that we are all in such sync with each other at this stage that we seem to be tackling the plateau demons at the same time? I find it very comforting. Hopefully, between us all, we will come up with a plan that works…maybe not the same one for everyone, but that’s the beauty of this wol and woe.
UP – I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing anxiety at the moment but it’s good that you are older and wiser now to acknowledge the feelings, to look for and accept help and to realise that this is a passing phase. Take it easy and find comfort in things you enjoy – fresh air and exercise can be very helpful, if you feel up to going out. Sending you love and hugs <3 (((( ))))
Doggy – that’s very good advice for Up too. Hope you had a lovely weekend without too much pain and discomfort from your knee xxxx
CG – you are pure AD at work, you never give up but just look for ways to shake it up, find a different approach and you will be successful in the end, I have no doubt of that. I agree about the feast/famine approach – I have also let things slide on FDs and non FDs so that the gap between them was not that great at all, so I think I’ll try for greater contrast there and see what happens.
Milena – I am in awe of your liquid only days, even one a week seems impossible to me! You are doing a great job adjusting your TDEE as you lose weight, well done! Keep up the good work πŸ™‚
SJ – I absolutely loved your post, full of gems of wisdom and so, so true! So delighted that you and PH will be sharing accommodation for the WTF tour, it will be a blast!! πŸ˜† Yes, we have alot going for us in the fact that we still want to achieve our goals and we are not giving up on 5:2, no matter how much we stall and that is the huge difference between this wol and other ‘diets’. So, let’s all dig in and find what works, share our ideas, successes and struggles and we will find a way to reach our targets together….BRING IT ON!!!!

    Hi all,
Feeling very brain dead after 2 full days of learning the rules of bridge. I came home this afternoon and lay down and went straight to sleep. Woke up at 6 pm.

Thought I could do a long post but alas eyes are tired again. Catch you all tomorrow. Sujen, I have replied to your emails and looking forward to sharing with you.??
    GG thanks for the call.

    Nite nite???

An interesting short article/list here on what’s called SIRT superfoods, which apparently stimulate the same response in your body as the 5:2 diet. Worth looking up a bit more methinks. suejen Night night all. XX

    http://www.52recipes.co.uk/2015/10/21/how-can-superfoods-help-you-lose-weight/

Not surprised that your head is melted, PH – hope you had a good sleep!
Thanks for the link, SJ – very interesting. I do eat some of those foods but will try more now.
Congrats on the great rugby match. Woohoo! πŸ™‚ Best of luck in the final!!

Good morning all,I have had a pretty good weekend the All Blacks won ?? yesterday was a long day up early for the football then Aussie family over from WA for lunch. Lots of laughs .The weather was good except for the wind but at least it was fine. Thanks for the link Suejen that is interesting I drink green tea quite a lot .today is going to be a day in the garden I have a few family members coming to stay in acouple of weeks and we are all off to a garden tour for a day so I want to have mine up to scratch. I have been ok with my food and keeping under the TDEE only just every day. Tomorrow is my FD and I am quietly confident it will go ok.OH is going out to dinner so that makes it easier. Dogsabie Your dog Sabie sounded lovely my Tui was a beautiful toy poodle she is black with a white tuft under the chin my OH and I went sailing through Asia for a couple of years so I gave her a new home where she is so loved but she still has a spot in my heart. I See her sometimes but couldn’t take her back as it would break her new mums heart? this is a long post for me it is so encouraging to read all your posts we all have the same goal I don’t have too much to lose but whether it’s a small or large amount it’s nice to share the ups and downs of others. I always think everyone you meet is fighting a battle of some kind so always be kind. It’s Labour Day holiday here today have a great day all TM
    P

Hi TM – didn’t mean to leave out the All Blacks – they are just awesome! What a lovely sentiment about always being kind…..beautiful words. I’m a dog lover too and we have a black labrador called Molly – she’s great company. It’s a bank holiday for us tomorrow too but since I retired I don’t really notice holidays any more. We have friends coming over for lunch so I’ll be kicking my FD back to Tuesday. Have a great week πŸ™‚

Good morning team, happy positive fast day to everyone. Suejen, not long up so will read the link shortly. My mind is in a boggle with the rules of so many eating patterns. Some even contradict each other. Eat fat, stay low cal, eat fruit, never eat fruit……..my brain is getting a bit addled and most of what I read will always work if we stick strictly to it. I feel 5:2 has that answer don’t you. Seems to be the least confusing but then again, we are all doing it our own way. I upped my eating to what I assume close to my TDEE as I’m have stopped counting, since Friday, and would you believe, lost 500g! The last two days I has chocolate each night, and not just a nibble either! We are lead to believe the less we eat, the more we lose! Oh the confusion of it all……I had an awful night trying to sleep, got the spooks up with something outside, the boys barked, then stood behind me, my hero’s, turned out to be a plastic bucket blown over in the wind and tapping on the side of the house, but the anxiety didn’t leave me. Once back to sleep, I had a nightmare! Maybe that’s where the 500g went, I feel like I’ve done a days work in bed! Oh that didn’t quit come out right did it??
Anyway, a day at home is my plan, too late for aerobics now, too exhausted anyway, few aches which could be the cool change which came through, but a hot shower will solve all that, life is too short to be sitting around, things to do, fat to work off!
Having my last milky coffee for the day (and first) so I’ll get some soup out of the freezer for later in the arvo, or just miso in the packet.
Prattle prattle prattle this morning, be strong team, it’s only one day, nothing too new, WE CAN DO IT, tomorrow is not far away to have what you want. Let our AUSSIE DETERMINATION control your day, it does work, get bloody minded, stay busy, mind and body, and you will be the winner….good luck ? BRING IT ON xxxxxxxxx

    Morning CG!
Sorry you had such a bad night – it’s not easy to shake off the uneasy feelings even when you know it was nothing but the wind! Sounds very encouraging losing the 500g after eating chocolate….if that worked for me, I’d weigh just about nothing!!!! πŸ˜‰ I never have a problem eating up to my TDEE, in fact, I think I’ve been going over it quite alot lately. So I’m trying to stop all the snacking and I’m also going to try to eat less cals on my FDs. Somethings got to change and I think it has to be me!

Hi Fit, I had tried to stop hitting the chocolate, especially the Aldi one, it is delish! But got the cravings both nights so gave in…..the beauty of it to, it works as a laxative so maybe that helps. It gives me a flush out! I only ever eat dark chocolate and can’t just have a small square, always the four across the row ?……I just checked out the super food list from Suejen, most I do have, don’t like green tea, so forego that, but seem to have permission to try sav cab! I have never been a red wine drinker, might have to start giving it a nudge! ?

Hay have you noticed, with all the struggles we have had, now it’s okay to eat dark chocolate and sav cab?? This 5:2 is getting even better ? xxxxxxx

    Hi CG

I presume ALL chocolate and ALL wines (except the cheap stuff, life is too short for cheap wine) is on the superfood list?

Its super and its food – and if its not there I’m not playing any more! Just finishing off a lovely sav cab that my son bought for me today. No chocolate, but we all got through a small box of godiva chocs (the best choc!!!!) so I’ve got no chocolate in.

Though have been watching Masterchef Australia and at Christmas will be making the 2 ingredient, sugar free, chocolate mousse – the two ingredients are chocolate and double cream (presume your pouring cream is double cream or is it whipping cream, which would be a better choice, lower calories – that’s damning with faint praise!) I’m determined to get into this lovely healthy aussie food…………………

Hi all, feeling much better. Slept a full 11hours last night even though I had slept 3 hours I the afternoon. Ready to get up and at it…???
UP. Trust you are feeling good and ready to take on whatever the world throws at you once again.
Milena..after doing liquid diet days in preparation for a colonoscopy I decided I could never again do that without a good reason. Very bad headaches. I take my hat off to you??. You also are so organised with your calorie intake. Well done…will have to have a look at that for my targets.

Suejen. like your comment” will it matter in 6 months time” . I too have occasional anxiety problems and my daughter always tells me to ask myself “will a child die as a result of the problem?” If not then you can just think rationally how to deal with the issue for the best outcome.
I find myself asking this question in my mind when I am worrying about something and it really puts things into perspective…and counselling is great. I go to a psychologist once a month for managing pain and find those sessions so helpful in many ways.

Love the list of superfoods. ??????. Now if they would just add ice cream ???I have a great recipe for natural dark chocolate.. Must make some, and get back to having my warm lemon juice each morning. Get very slack with that. Already doing the red wine, I usually pour it over a glass of ice and so makes it go further. Don’t like green tea but will give it another go..my choice is lemon myrtle tea.and have the kale in my green drinks.

Fit.. daylight saving seems to be a challenge everywhere. Not so easy to change the old body clock as we get older. I could not believe how long the days were in the European summer whenI visited. Finally understood the need for the heavy curtains to block out the daylight whe. It was time to go to bed. And then understood the short winter days.

TM. Looks like a NZ Aus final I the Rugby. ??Don’t like to be unpatriotic but am thinking that the Australian team will have to play a blinder to beat the amazing NZ team. Sailing through Asia for a couple of years sounds like a wonderful thing to do.

CG. I think one of the reasons I was a bit off during the last week was that I was not eating enough on my no fast days. So have decided to record everything I eat for at least the next two weeks. I seem to have gone off track and so planning to get back on track today. Great news about the 500g.. Know what you mean about noises that keep you awake. Had a stray dog around the yard a couple of nights ago and wondered what was out there. Our darling Brandy just slept through it all, now that she is old does not bark anymore.

Ha e a good fast day everyone who is doing oneYOU CAN DO IT

I am meeting my younger brother at my daughters house to measure it up so we can get quotes for floor coverings etc. Taking him and his wife for lunch so will fast tomorrow instead.

Have to fly. HAVE A GREAT DAY TEAM,,

Hi everyone. That’s an interesting read re superfoods. As you say, CG It can all start to get a bit confusing. I don’t like green tea either but bring on the red wine etc. A few months ago I changed from eating margerine to butter. There is no comparison as butter tastes so much better BUT I’ve come to the conclusion that I like it too much. I’ve also checked and it’s much higher in calories so am got to go back to the marg. When and if spring and summer eventually arrive I’m going to eat much less bread.
CG there must be some gremlins at work in our part of the world as I also had a bad night. The wind was howling here too, actually still is. I also had a bad dream. Maybe it’s the weather that’s to blame.
FF here again. I had boiled eggs for brekky and having smoked salmon and salads for lunch and Miso for supper.
Well done the Wallabies. They are going to have to play out of their skins to beat the All Blacks.
Tuismum, my puppy Pepper is also a Poodle. He’s a miniature. Cute as a button but still very much a pup and full of mischief and energy.
    Enjoy your day team.
    XX Doggy

Morning all. I seem to have set the cat amongst the pigeons again with the superfoods topic! I was mostly interested in the fact that these particular foods have an effect on the body just like fasting does. But I’m going to do a bit more research as there wasn’t much info there. Now obviously it doesn’t mean that we can just go overboard & eat these foods mindlessly and without any portion control – sorry guys. And Milena sorry but it is only dark chocolate and red wine, not white! Doggie I’m a bit like you. We do still need to watch our cals. So I eg keep butter but also the butter/oil mix one (Western Star soft) that’s lower in cals & it depends how my day’s going as to which I’ll have. If I’ve had other blowouts during the day I’ll swap to the lower calorie version, same with cheese. Love my regular cheese but do use LF sometimes because I’ve had other treats & need to back off a bit. Sort of a rob Peter to pay Paul a bit. Anyway will look up more. I don’t like all the additives/chemicals in the LF varieties but some days I can’t afford the extra cals!
The basics of 5:2 ARE still the same – 2 days of 500 cals or as CG is doing 1/4 of your usual TDEE. On the non-fast days eat up to your TDEE & eat as normally as you can enjoying many foods in moderation with a few treats.
Sorry CG & Doggie that you had such a bad night. Back off & have a relaxing day & be kind to yourself. Pamper day required methinks for you both.
PH so glad you had a lovely long sleep. I find that does so much to restore your health and strength – mentally & physically.
Tuis I think that eating up to your TDEE or just under is fine & creates the feast/famine effect for us. I too mostly manage to just stay under my TDEE or a teensy bit over at times, like I mean 20 or 30 cals. But I’m not recording my TDEE every day now but will if my loss stalls again. And well done to the All Blacks & yes PH I think the Wallabies will have to play a blinder to win against them.

Well into another FD for most of us. We know the drill we know it works (not always to our schedule though LOL) and we all have our routines. Stick to them & reap the benefits. Tighten things up if you think you need to. Enjoy your fat blasting day. suejen XXXX

Hi team, turned very cold and light rain falling. Don’t even think it will settle the dust, but looks quite wintery. How are you all going with your fasting? 5:00 now and still no food yet, really, I’m not even hungry. Had a few black coffee and teas as well as a miso but nothing else. Plenty left for dinner and hopefully a hot chocolate tonight ?
So c’mon, time to support each other, it’s not easy to fast for some of you especially if your getting this cold blast, back each other team..YOU CAN DO IT, have an early meal if you are hungry and good weather for an early night if your weather is like mine. It will soon be tomorrow so you can have whatever you want, but don’t wish your life away, enjoy the goodness you are doing for your body ?….not long to go. Xxxxx

Hi all, just had a cracker of a storm here in beautiful Port Stephens. Lovely and cool evening so hopeful of a good night’s sleep. My fd tomorrow. Full agenda, grocery shopping in the morning, Bible study in the afternoon, then a patchwork class in the evening. Not much time to think about food. The time should pass quickly and I can eat again on Wednesday!

Hi noots, that’s a perfectly busy fast day, well done…..ooooh I love a good storm, they keep promising we will get one but still waiting ? xxxxxxxx

Evening Determinators! How did we fast today?
I have just done 24hrs of a liquid fast. Would not say I would do one again. Certainly had the cathartic effect on the elimination side of things. You really need to have your head around this one if you are going to try it,bugger going for 36hrs!. Remember…It was an experiment for me to try. Dinner 1/2hr ago was salmon and mixed green salad…..BOY ! was it good.
CG – I have your storms annoying the hell up here. Bloody Thor is really giving his drums a workout with thunder and lighting.
SJ- very interesting read about superfoods…. most is already what many of us consume. AND yes! confusing. I love green tea in any form…green tea dulip is very refreshing on a hot day . Spice it up with stevia, kiwifruit, apple and crushed ice.
Enjoy tomorrow……real food YES YES YES!!!!!!……GO GALxxxxx

Well done GG, I just finished dinner too, well deserved I might add after nothing but fluids since dinner last night. Please give Thor my address, we could do with the associated rain! ? enough cals left for a hot chocolate before bed, which won’t be too far off after last nights lack of sleep. Hope you are all doing well ?bxxxxx

Hi All, Well had my first week weighin thismorn and was 87.1, so am pretty pleased with that as last mon was 88.9. Still don’t want get hopes up to much as have some busy times ahead with visitors Thurs and all next weekend again and of course the Melbourne cup luncheon on the 3rd. Had lunch out with family and friends and did have battered fish today, but onwards an upwards, fast day again tomorrow and Wed again. Don’t really want 2 days in a row but its just working out that way at the moment, busy time of the year. So im all pumped for my fast tomorrow. I haven’t been home much to check all your posts, but hope you are all doing extremely well. My best wishes to you all & thankyou for yor kind comments.

CG my thoughts exactly. I just tracked my food and said Mmmm enough left for a hot choc Yumm. Only coffee for brekky, just had a HB egg at 4.30pm, then having home-made Fish Fingers with Lemon Mayo…so easy to prepare (cooked in the oven) & so yummy too, with some mashed pumpkin & broccoli. Link to the recipe here: http://www.52recipes.co.uk/?s=fish+fingers. 281 calories. This is a site I use regularly.
Had a lovely day in the garden today. We still have good weather for a few more days then rain on the way. Also made up all the rest of my lemons into Lemon Syrup for the summer…very refreshing diluted with water. Yes it does have sugar and I don’t care. The amount of sugar that I consume would be very low. OH drinks most of it anyway.

Well trust everyone did well on their FD routine & lasted the distance. Yeah then into bed with a BIG smile on our faces WE DID IT! If not then we try again Thursday – no biggie. It only becomes a biggie if you’re doing that all the time! suejen XXXX

Oh GG I think the only thing that I need to add in is some green tea. I drink so many herbal flavours that green tea doesn’t get a look in.
Noots your FD will go well because keeping busy is the key I think.

Hi everyone, congrats to all on completion of FD. GG and CG well done on all liquids…sounds like you all have done well with FDays.

Ali. Congratulations on your loss. Well done.

My FD tomorrow so will be joining you Noots . I am sure we will be Ok. WE CAN DO THIS…
Thor has moved to the North Coast, thunder, lightning abounding and it has just started to rain. β›ˆ??⚑️⚑️?Sorry CG.

    Nite all. pH??

    Hi All!
Weather has taken a turn for the worse here too but more like we would expect for this time of year….windy and dull; all the gloriously coloured leaves are raining down from the trees – very pretty to look at but will cause quite a mess on the roads when they start they turn to slippery mulch. I love a good storm too, with lots of thunder and lightning – very dramatic! I’m a bit of a chocolate slut; it doesn’t really matter to me what kind it is, I just go for it!!! πŸ˜‰ I do drink lots of green tea, though, so maybe I’m not a complete lost cause! I also drink both red and white wine, but prefer white now, as I find more than one glass of red gives me headache the next day. πŸ™ The rugby final will be very exciting next weekend, I’m sure. I will have a foot in both camps now, thanks to all you great gals here – so I hope both teams play well and do themselves justice πŸ™‚
PH – delighted to hear you had a such a good sleep, it does make a big difference. Take care and don’t overdo things πŸ™‚
Doggy – I have cut back hugely on the amount of bread I eat and I think it had made a big difference to the bloated feelings I used to have.
SJ – I agree with you about all those spreads, they seem to have alot of additives and there are so many variations with all kinds of claims that it is very confusing…so the less bread, the less need for any of them either!
CG – hope you get the rain you need, we have had a very dry autumn for a change but still not looking for more rain; we will get more than enough over the winter, I’m sure! Over here we ask “How do you know it’s Summer in Ireland?” “Because the rain is warm!!” I’m very jealous that you all have your FD over and I’ve not even begun….I’ve postponed it until Tues as I have friends coming for lunch today. They are a couple, dear friends for many years who have sadly decided to call time on their marriage after 27 years. It’s all very amicable but still painful and sad. They have two daughters who are great friends with our girls and we have been like one big family for years…..so it’s a big blow to everyone. I hope we can stay close and be supportive as they move on into this next phase of their lives.
Noots – great idea to keep busy on FD, but be careful of grocery shopping when you’re feeling hungry!! πŸ™‚
GG – all you had for dinner after a liquid fast was salmon and green veg!!!!!! You are amazing! I would have eaten the back door buttered!!
Ali – brilliant result….woohoo! Don’t knock it; things will probably slow down later, but for now, celebrate those losses!! Fantastic! πŸ™‚
Have a wonderful week everyone and keep the four Ps in mind as well as portion control….maybe we should make it five Ps!! BRING IT ON!

Our posts crossed Fit. Good luck with your FD tomorrow. We will just smash it. Not doing the liquid thingo though. Just normal FD for me. Nite nite??

Good morning team, PC day for most of us after another successful fast ? I hope it went well for you all.
Each day is a new beginning, so enjoy the adventure of life, my garden is proof of that. So much beauty happening, everyday I seem to discover something new. Some years certain things Lay dormant and other years I get a full show. We are all a bit like that ourselves aren’t we? Some days we just exist others we thrive ? so let’s make a positive effort to thrive team. I’m off to aerobics after my shower, I’d rather have another coffee and watch telly whilst I wake up but…not an option….life is waiting for me to live it with zest, 24 predicted today, just a perfect day to get out and enjoy being alive.
Have a lovely day team, make each post a winner, be happy in your endeavours and watch your PC, make your choices wisely and reap the benefits ? be positive, your frame of mind controls your whole day so the choice is in your control xxxxxxxx

Had a wonderful afternoon with our friends, my daughter and her boyfriend. I ate all round me – starter, main course, cheese board…followed by box of chocolates and of course, lots of wine!! Oh well, all the more reason to have a really strict FD tomorrow and be focussed on my next goal – to lose two kg (over the next month) and to look my best for my school reunion in two weeks time.
PH – I could never do a liquid fast but will try to be closer to quarter of my TDEE rather than 500 cals. I have become too slapdash over the last while; guessing at calories consumed, overdoing the non FDs and mindless snacking. Here’s to control, focus, determination and results! πŸ™‚

Woohoooo, down 1:2k since yesterday….hope the back of my plateau is broken! Xxxxx

I’m with you Fit. Have to refocus. Too much been going on but I know I can get back to where I was with my Aussie Determination. Have just worked my 1/4 TDEE and will be sticking to that for this FD. Have also made myself a promise to use MFP every day for the next 2 weeks to help with the focus thing. Good luck today . WE CAN DO THIS???????.

CG. You words are such an inspiration, about us having control of our day and what we do with it. Lovely rain last night and everything in the garden is sparkling…β›ˆβ›ˆ I too am off to the pool for exercises which always makes me feel good, after I organise my days food though as my classes are not till 10am. ??????

    HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE?????????

CG – what a fantastic result in such a short space of time, I’m mega impressed and inspired by your success to try harder. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
PH – I’m going to have to get back on to MFP too and be more precise about counting cals instead of guessing.

    Wow CG that’s great!!?????
Feeling very hungry today for my FD, no idea why but have been having to drink liquids all morning and have just had my 2 hard boiled eggs, and it is only 2.30pm. Hope I last out!!!

PH it’s awful when you have doubts and feel hungry. Are you drinking herbal teas? I know, you’re really looking for something with body. You can still have a dash of milk but count the cals if you do. Hang in there, let our AUSSIE DETERMINATION talk to you ☺️ YOU CAN DO IT,….. Try to stay busy, go for a walk, or have a nap, anything to pass the time till dinner. Good luck xxxxxxx

Hi all, cool and rainy here in lovely Port Stephens. My fd is going OK so far. A good day for hot cups of tea and coffee. Had a light lunch, Bible study was good, now off to a friend’s for a light afternoon tea, a last minute invitation. My patchwork evening class starts at 6 pm till 9 pm. I will take peppermint teabags and a health bar to keep me going. Love a busy fast day.

CG that’s a great loss ?? Ali you as well ?? its my FD today going ok I found a great site called My Fat Secret it has a brilliant app for iPad or use the full site. I find it better than MFP.
PH and Fit Noots we are all on the same FD I just stayed out in the garden this morning then went for a walk . Fit I am like you I gave up eating bread about three months ago don’t eat anything that says lite or low fat, full cream milk butter no marge for me. I put a dash of cream in my coffee as well.It seems to keep my fuller and I’m not looking for snacks . I have lost 4kg since starting this ,not sure if it’s the lower carbs in my diet as it’s certainly not exercise ! I have consciously tried to eat less but still have a glass of wine mainly red a couple of times a week. Hopefully 5.2 will help me to lose another 5 or 6 kg. I love reading all the posts everyone has something to inspire . Suejen have you ever tried to make Lemoncello ? My sister does it’s amazing lots of sugar but so so nice. Well that’s enough waffling for me . TM

Hi Icandothis, love the name! I am also fairly new at 5:2 but am finding it is working for me. What I do on my fast days is skip breakfast and have cups of tea or coffee with a little milk to keep me going. I eat a light meal at 12, which always tastes heavenly, then don’t eat again until another light meal at 6 pm. I have found that egg white omelettes are easy and filling. I buy cartons of egg whites from the supermarket, which saves a lot of waste. I then have enough calories left over to have a half cup of hot milk before an early bed. Hope this helps. My secret is to keep as busy as I can on fast days so the time goes quickly. Good luck.

HI ADΓ©rs PH hang in there, you know you can do it! I too have days where I’m ravenous (not very often these days) and mostly I resort to packets of miso soup. Each one only adds about 20 cals so if I need 2 I have them. Monday I didn’t think I’d last till dinner & resorted to my Vegemite drink (1 tsp in hot water) and it filled the spot nicely. It’s only a drink but seems to fill you up more.
CG WOOhOO if you’ve broken that darn plateau 1.2kg eh!!!!!!! You haven’t seen figures like that in a while, so have a very focused week & you should blitz it. () ()
Fit sounds like returning to MFP would be good for a while, plus it does give you a bit of shell shock for a while to realise how many cals you’ve been consuming. We’re all prone to calorie amnesia aren’t we!! I’ve done it after straying off the track for a while & I’m usually horrified at how many calories I had in a day. Unbelievable!!
CG love your analogy about the garden, yes some days we do just exist and others we thrive. I definitely don’t thrive in the winter, but I’m starting to love each new day, getting out in the sunshine the birds singing…just had a chat with a stumpytail lizard at our back door. He’s a young one from last year I think. He was surprised we’ve installed a screen door at the back…couldn’t get in!
PH & Noots have a good FD today & everyone else a great PC day but DO enjoy some foods that you love. I bought a brie cheese (yes I did!) but I’ve just had a little triangle today, & will do so each PC day until it’s gone. I ate it VERY SLOWLY and enjoyed every little bite…savoured it! Have a great day all suejen XXXX

Ooooh Suejen, you are stronger than me, when there is Brie or Camembert in the fridge, I’m never happy till it’s gone, usually in one sitting!!! Team don’t congratulate me too early, it’s only early days, I ‘m trying to eat UP TO my TDEE, it appears I’m not eating enough to make my fast do any good, and I did over the week end before my Monday fast. So today, eating/planning more calorie dense foods to bring me up, ….and I’m waiting for someone to tap me on the shoulder!! I am doing aerobics in the morning, and have been talked into following up with strength exercise class after it, yikes!! So depending on how I pull up, might fast again tomorrow, (could be easy, I’ll probably sleep all arvo) and do 3 fasts this week to kick start my plateau kicking in the bum!….then again, I might come home absolutely starving, so I’ll see ? Suejen how lovely to have that lizard as a “almost” pet ?, my boys chase them, I have a few residents in my greenhouses which I keep pot plant saucers fill with water for them.
Gotta go sorry, not long now fasters before you can have dinner, hang in there, chat later ? xxxxxxxxxx

    Hi All!
Seems to be a bit quiet on the thread today…hope all is going well with everyone. I love reading about how you are all getting on with 5:2 and life in general.
CG -I know it’s early days yet but I really hope you have found the answer to the plateau blues, you certainly deserve it after such a long time and being so good about portion control etc. It’s amazing that you need to eat more in order to lose weight!! (But not like me, I know!!) It’s seems to be all about the contrast between FDs and non FDs. Again, you are our fearless leader and wherever you go, we will follow and hope for the same success!! πŸ™‚ I think in my case the 500 cals was working in the beginning but now my TDEE is less and so a quarter of it is about 400 cals – so that’s what I’m going to aim for and see how I get on. I think strength exercises sound like a very good idea but take it easy…you are doing so well with the aerobics but they can leave you tired some days….maybe you could alternate between the two? Xxxx
PH – I have had some FDs where I have been very hungry and the only answer is keep busy and keep out of the kitchen…..maybe even out of the house altogether!! πŸ˜‰ Stay strong, you can do this!
Noots – very good plan to bring your own snacks so that you don’t give in to temptation when you’re out and about – well done!
TM – hope your FD went well…mine has just begun. I’m amazed I didn’t really miss bread at all and I’m sure it helped with initial weight loss. Well done on your loss to date, brilliant! Continued success to you for the next phase πŸ™‚ I was promising myself and the dog that I would go for a walk today but it’s rainy and miserable so I’ll tackle some housework instead to keep busy. I have a few errands to run for my sister too, so I’m hoping it will be evening before I know it!
SJ – yes, it’s too easy to forget how the cals mount up so I’m back on MFP today…the figures don’t lie!!! I’m not a lover of soft cheeses but had lots of other kinds yesterday…yum!! I love reading about the exotic wildlife in your part of the world, it reminds me how different our surroundings are but makes me feel part of it at the same time. I’m being woken up each morning at the moment by pheasants squawking in the hedge beside my bedroom window! I’ve also had hedgehogs, foxes, rabbits and even a badger come right up on to my patio!
Big hello to everyone else and have a wonderful week xxxxx

Well. I Did it. Took your advice CG and had a nap. Worked wonders. Came in about 40 cals below 500. Thanks for the advice all. SJ I did have a vegemite soup as I have run out of packets of miso.

Hope you had successful days TM and Noots. . Looking forward to a PC day tomorrow and not going anywhere. Finally will be able to get the house ship shape. So looking forward to a day at home.?????and not getting in the ???
    Nite nite all. ??

Sorry Fit… Missed you.. Hope your FD goes well. ??

No problem, PH…glad all well with you xx

I’m into the evening of my FD and didn’t think I over did the eating. I had nothing all day until 6pm and then had chicken breast with leftover veg from yesterday – only a tablespoon of potato, though. I entered it all on MFP and I’m amazed and disappointed that it’s giving a total of 478 cals! No wonder I have been overdoing it for the last few months since I stopped using MFP. Oh well, at least I’m still under 500! πŸ™

Good morning team, Hi Fit, it’s getting back to the confusion stage. I just received the news letter, the 2nd in 12 months?? Anyway it does say, only count cals on fast days! I was doing it every day and watching portion control. I think really we are back to “what suit you.” ……if it ain’t broke, why try to fix it! I’m not counting on non fast days any more, it became an obsession, it’s supposed to be part of our lives, so have stopped. Just eating/drinking normally and portion control has become second nature as I just can’t eat what I used too. I’m now only counting two days a week when I fast. Again, the scales are only a gadget, and we all like to beat them, but my obsession has to stop, and I’ll weigh in on Fridays only after my fast. If that doesn’t work, I’ll have to try something else. Although daily weighing does help me make better decisions with food, but I’m definitely not using MFP on the other five days.
Have a lovely day team, 25 here, so perfect to get out and live. If my body is still working after my mornings exercise, I plan to potter again in the garden. I have a builder here at the moment putting more decking up between my two greenhouses at his suggestion, so it’s all the same level, and I don’t trip,….now he is suggesting he put a roof/laser light over it!! I keep telling him to stop spending my money! Now he has me getting quotes on another water tank and pump for just them and the garden, more money! All great suggestions but a pension only goes so far ? and my savings are dwindling. Be positive with your 5:2 team, it is working, you’re retraining your body again, the fat IS leaving and you are healthier, nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it. Life is so full of wonder, our gardens and the animals they attract, the beautiful “paintings” in our skies, can’t help to lift the spirit, be part of it team, when you worry over the numbers on your scales, you miss it all ?…happy day xxxxx

CG – I’m definitely confused too. I can’t really remember how I lost the weight at the beginning…maybe because I had some to lose and now that I’m closer to my ‘natural’ weight, it’s not going to shift by the normal 5:2. I didn’t count cals on non FDs at the beginning and then I stalled, so I began counting every day and began to lose again. Then I went away to France and stopped counting and I’ve been yo-yoing by the same kg or two since then. I’m hoping that trying to eat a quarter of my TDEE on FDs and portion control the other days that I will start to see losses again. Like you, I don’t want to go back to counting every day and I don’t want my life ruled by numbers.

Thanks for the lovely description of the painting we experience daily. I am on my front deck at the moment just taking in the garden, listening to the birds and soaking up the great feeling that brings whilst having my first coffee. First time I have done this for a while. That’s what staying home for the day brings. Just love it. ????????β˜•οΈβ˜•οΈ??

Just got a call from hubby and he is heading home. The weather over the past few days has been really terrible where they are and so not suitable for nice quiet fishing on big dams, the fish don’t like the wind either I must say I am pleased as I have missed having him around, especially his cooking.

I think I will still stick to my plan to count my calories but will do it for just a week to get an idea again of how many I am eating on non fast days. Not as experienced as you ladies who have lost most of your excess weight. Actually retaining a lot of fluid at the moment and not sure why. I’m sure that will pass as it comes and goes.

Have a great day everyone enjoying the small things in life that make you happy!???

Hi team. I did not get round to posting yesterday as it was one of those days. I went to the Dr to get the results of my knee X-ray. It’s like the good news and the bad news. There is not sign of issues with the prosthesis but some inflammation is going on on the Knee itself. He has put me onto antiinflammatories and referred me to the orthopaedic surgeon. I’m quite hesitant to go as he’s a surgeon and in my experience it’s ” when in doubt, cut it out”. I also don’t know how successful reviews of Total knee replacements are. With my theatre nurses hat on, I think it would be a very difficult operation. So I am going to take the antiinflammatories for a week and make a decision after that.
Tuismum, I’m going to look for that app for iPad that you use. I find MFP annoying for some reason. I too must be more vigilant about counting calories on NFD. It’s more guesstimate than estimate.
    Enjoy the day folks.
    XX Doggy ??β˜‚β˜”οΈ
PS – CG I’ve added these wet weather symbols to try and encourage Thor to come and pay us a visit. We’ve had zilch rain too and it’s very dry.

Hi all feeling great today gardening this morning ,croquet golf this afternoon it’s quite cloudy though. Doggie hope the anti flam tabs do some good .the app is called Fat Secret is free and I think it’s much better than MF P for me anyway. Quilting group tonight so I better get moving . My FD went great hope I can repeat it again Thurs. thanks for all the comments TM

Doggy I hope the meds solve your problem, I’m on them daily and couldn’t do without them, don’t forget to have them with meals. And if it comes down to surgery, leave it to the doctors, I know how glad I am to have had mine, after many years of being told to never let anyone operate on your back!
This mornings gym session went really well, but really showed how unfit I am ?, but I actually walked, for 10 minutes or so, which is something I haven’t been able to do for years without “breaking down” so I feel quite proud…..but when she said, okay start jogging, my feet seemed to be stuck to the ground! Time will improve my fitness level and I was really surprised how most of the exercises were doable for me. Tomorrow morning will tell the story so I’ll be interested to see how I pull up.
Beautiful day, quite hot and no wind, fasting still and not hungry yet. Tonight could be a different story once I have dinner, but I feel really refreshed and proud. ? six months ago none of this would have been possible. I’m ready for a Nanny nap but my hand man is still here so unable, but he will be going soon. I hope you are having a nice day. Enjoy doing what you do, so many would love to be in your shoes so count your blessings ? xxxxxxxxx

Tuis the only fat secrets I can find are exercise related, is that the ones you mean? Are they recipes etc too? I was looking for something more like MFP, what does your app provide? Xxxxx

    Hi CG.
The app is called Fat Secret in the App Store it’s free it has Foood tracker cals fat carbs etc ,exercise tracker, weight tracker measurements etc , recipes I find it easy to use like the set up and the writing is large it has a diet calendar, barcode scanner also your calorie count on your height weight etc ,bmi , There is a huge data base of food relevant to Aus and NZ lots of brands plus supermarkets. Hope you can find it. I have used M F P but like this better. I will look for the website and post a link but need to close this off first.
