  • Day 6…..Florida……not sure

Fools wise well it was a bust….. @steve toon, it hasn’t been my finest week either, lets walk together, maybe we can turn this thing around!

I think my problem was that I did not do enough to keep myself busy. Yeah, I did a few things nothing major, caught up with my show Orphan Black, planted my pepper and Cantaloupe seeds, took a nap and finished up the laundry!

Today, the hubby and I are being kicked out the house, so the YS and his girl can have the afternoon together. I must say, he’s got some awesome parents, ones that will disappear for the afternoon, so they can have the day together without running the streets.

@ on a healthy high…… Congrats on your retirement. Keep your chin up!

Day 3 of my staycation……. trying to stay on the lower side of my calories…… not sure what we’re going to do but we will figure it out.

Okay well the honey wants me to pull up a YouTube video……

I was addicted to the hokey pokey and turned myself around!

Day 6 Massachusetts USA FD I’m doing a 3rd FD for the week because I figured something out. In May, June, and July I had a total of 27 FD’s and lost ONE pound. Since I have a record on Lose It app of my calories every week, I think I have to stay at or only slightly over 6000 calories in a week to get off this plateau. That means either lowering my TDEE to 1000 calories or doing a 4/3 every week. For August, I’ll try this and see if I can get results.

    @bert1802.
Like I’ve said before FD easy plus no calories between 22.00 & 12.00 everyday easy, but that bit between 18.00 & 22.00 a real struggle most days. It’s like when I start eating I can’t stop.
I’ll get to grips with it 😁

    Day 6 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

Doing fine. Big concert tonight, still praying the rain stays away (only 15% chance is predicted) so we can be outside at the big park amphitheater. It’s a lovely setting for our choir. I might just go to the local ice cream parlor and splurge with a turtle sundae following the concert as I have been known to do. It’s probably 500 calories of vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge and caramel sauces, toasted pecans, whipped cream and a cherry. One a year is about all I can manage.

    Onward and downward!

    Day 6 London, U.K. FD

FD for me, 4th FD ever! Finding it harder today for some reason. Not enough to drink perhaps!

    Weigh in planned tomorrow

    Day 6, Wales, NFD

Day 6, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD

Yesterday’s NFD was at TDEE but weight is creeping up. Might be water retention (ate quite some salty food) and food in transit. Hiked 8 miles!

    Now off for another hike!😊

Tomorrow I will push the reset button!

    Have a good Sunday everyone!😊🌼😊🌺😊

    Day 6 – USA – NFD

Day 6 Akron OH 2nd of B2B FD. When I started ADF earlier this year, the weight rolled off me, I’m finding out it’s not as easy this time. Maybe because I am starting out with not as much to lose this time. I have noticed I feel full on less food, which kind of sucks because I love eating πŸ™‚ well onward and downward as they say.

    Day 6, India, NFD
My FD on Friday turned into a NFD as my OH got a promotion and we went out to celebrate.. On Saturday and today it has been quite disastrous, it has been the first time since I started the diet about 2 months ago that I have grazed on food all day. My period started today and I have been feeling lousy the last couple days with PMS. Pressing the reset button tomorrow. Also I need to stop weighing myself everyday!

    Day 6 UK FD

So far so good on this FD.

Second Post Day 6 North Wales NFD
Finally home after a 4 hour drive. πŸ˜€. First thing I did was get on the scales as I was unable to weigh myself at the end of the July challenge and at the beginning of the August challenge. At the beginning of the July Challenge I was 151 pounds. I still can’t quite believe it but today I am 144 pounds. It is the smallest I have been for quite a while. I am delighted πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ My BMI is 25.5.

@onahealthyhigh I have been retired for just over a year now. I still go around as if I have no free time, which is partly true as I have filled my free time with sewing, cooking (for my husband who is one of those infuriating people who can eat anything and not put on an ounce), looking after grandchildren, family history, card making, going for coffee with friends, aqua aerobics, walking the dog and running a dog training club. I was a secondary school teacher, so for me being retired is amazing. My sister has just retired and she is finding it difficult. I think in part as she has so few hobbies. When I first retired I joined quite a few local classes and groups. I found that helped on a wet miserable afternoon when you couldn’t go outside to do anything.

@debster251 your suggestion of keeping a gratitude diary is an excellent one. I have suffered with depression twice and it was suggested to me to keep one of those. I keep a list of all the good things in my life on my phone and if I do feel down I read through it to remind me just what I have got to be happy about

@steve toon taxi driver. Don’t feel down about your blip in weight gain. Enjoy your sons wedding. The weight will come down afterwards.

Day 6 – McMinnville Oregon USA – NFD

I ruined my fast yesterday by letting the wine dragon out of the bottle. πŸ‰ I was just under my TDEE thought. 😞 I will stuff the dragon back in the bottle for a wine free Monday through Friday.
    Onward and downward!

Day 6 – SW WA USA – NFD

Able to keep yesterday controlled even while spending quite a few hours at Family Camp. I did enjoy a hiking adventure with one of the young people which was a great work out. Off to join in for the final service, including baptisms in the river. A really special time!

@lumat – when you say you felt guilty & were running back to the kiddos, it made me think back on myself. I was told that the best thing I could do for my marriage was to make sure my hubby and I had some alone time from time to time. It makes the kids secure when Mom & Dad are close…

Starting a Fasting list for Day 7: (please copy and add your name) Together we are stronger!

    @annemarilyn

    Day 6, Emden Germany, NFD

@onahealthyhigh I’m so sorry you’re having such a hard time reorganizing your life after retirement. The advice give by those already retired sound usefull. My DH and I are going to retire next April, no idea what to expect from that but looking forward to it. Hugs and take care.

    Plank challenge, today’s dose:

60 sec high plank / 30 sec elbow plank / 30 sec right foot raised / 30 sec left foot raised / 30 sec side plank left side / 30 sec side plank right side / 30 sec high plank / 60 sec elbow plank

I’m doing realy well, my only problem after doing this in the morning is, I’m loaded with energy, it’s also very moodlifting. Will try it for the first time doing the 5-minute-planks before going to bed this evening.

    Day 6 California USA NFD

Went to a BBQ last night at a neighbor’s house and I didn’t go too crazy with the eating, but the leftover Hawaiian potato chips (crisps) which I didn’t realize were back in my bag when we left, suffered an untimely death while I sat around and caught up on my email and articles on my tablet. πŸ˜™ Ack!!! Can I have a do-over? Today is going to be a day of restrained eating and atonement for the great potato chip massacre. That is another snack food that I just can’t have in the house. They don’t even freeze!

@debster251 – It’s so good to hear about your son’s success with the 5:2 plan! You must be so proud of him!

@onahealthyhigh – Fear of retirement blues has me putting off retirement for at least a little longer. Fear of the reduced paycheck has me putting it off too. We’ll have enough to live comfortably on, but home projects like remodeling the bathroom will take a lot more planning. We need to get that done now! And the hunger, procrastination and especially the over-thinking dragon have already lived here for a long time! Hopefully retirement won’t give them a stronger foothold.

    Day 6, Guildford UK, FD

    Turned into a CFD (1200)

Am struggling to get back to it. Very demotivated, such a shame really. I am doing what I can. I am intending to stay this side of TDEE. I am exercising.

    Day 4 Portland, OR NFD
    Day 5 FD
    Day 6 NFD

I’m catching up after taking an electronics break for a couple days. I am so proud of myself as I was able to host good friends on Friday night and keep food and wine intake totally in check. Sunday is my weigh in day- after three full weeks on this WOL I am down 5.6 pounds. I think I can actually see the difference already. That is terrific motivation as I leave this week for a work trip. I’ve never been able to stay on track when I travel so this is my dragon to slay!

    Days 4,5,6 QuΓ©bec. NFD

Sorry, I was travelling and now I am at my sister’s place. Since we don’t see each other very often I completely forgot about posting in the forum.

Nothing very special happened exept that I ate with no care whatsoever ! Ouf !

Looking forward to a FD tomorrow, Monday being my regular FD.

BYe bye to all of you. Enjoy and take care !

    Day 6 – Cumbria UK – NFD

A very indulgent weekend all round with lots of bubbly πŸ₯‚very enjoyable but now looking forward to pressing that RESET button tomorrow with a FD so joining @annemarilyn and @snowflake56 – anyone else joining us???

    DAY 7 QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA FD
Back into it today after a bit of a blowout on the weekend. Meant to have an alcohol free day Sunday but ended up our local BoatClub. Its a 15 minute walk and they now have a little cinema…where not only can you munch on snacks (OH and I devoured 2 bags of Twisties) but you can drink alcohol while watching the movie….which of course we did! Then OH decided to eat hot chips afterwards on the deck. A lovely day but not good foodwise! Surprisingly the scales were kind this morning and I dropped 700 grams so that was good.
@molij congratualtions on your weigh in!! Have a good Monday everyone.

Day 1 San Diego FD – I’m new – and a very determined newbie -and late for this challenge but going to jump in anyway. I’m sitting here busting out of my shorts (and anything else I wear) and I refuse to buy new clothes!!

About me: I’m a 79 year old grandma to 2 awesome kids – both juniors, one in high school and one in college. I lost my husband 8 years ago to Alzheimer’s and live in a little studio attached to my son’s house. He’s an only child. I’m feel very blessed.

I did my BMI (31.1) BMR (1281) TDEE (1537). I’m 180.8 lbs so the scale said this morning and I decided I am NOT (not shouting just emphasis πŸ˜‰ going to go down that 80s road. But it’s sooooo hard to lose weight now. I’m going for loss of 1 lb/week because I’m pretty sure I can hit that mark & I don’t want to get discouraged as I have in the past with weight loss. Can’t do much exercise (arthritis) but going to check out some chair exercises on youtube.

I put my meals into Spark People and it doesn’t look too bad for 600 calories. Hmmm did I just say that? I did break it down to more than 2 meals, though. Coffee, boiled egg, salad, chicken, smoothie.

Going to do 1200 calories on non-fast days. Including smoothies as 1 meal in both fast-non fast days–maybe. I was reading Bert 1802 and think I will try that fasting from 7:30 pm to 12:30 pm, too.

Glad to see there’s a lot of info on this site.

    So here I go……

    Day 6, London, UK, NFD

Very, very late check in today, busy last minute plans for my dad’s ‘day’ on Tuesday. Good FD yesterday, very CD today…………keeping busy helps keep food (& other) thoughts at bay!!

Fasting tomorrow, sticking to ADF or at least a B2B2B each week, so………

Day 5 and Day 6, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Busy, busy weekend. Lots of company, lots of food, lots of fun. Even discussed this eating plan with my grand daughter in law (who is model tall and model thin – wore her size four jeans home from the hospital after giving birth to my new great granddaughter. ) She is a pharmacist who is really into fitness and says that IF makes so much sense she cannot believe it needs so much explanation.

We had a great time – the four year old great granddaughter said that she loves our horses more than any horses she has ever known in her entire life. haha… She also asked and said please – could she have macaroni and cheese every time she comes to the farm? Yes, you little blue eyed charmer, you can.

Will be very happy to be back to fasting tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday as I am sure my body needs a break. Have been keeping up with the water and exercise – doing my planks in minute increments but trying to do about ten a day.

Basking in the glow of satisfaction of loving and being loved. Wishing the same for each of you.

    Wishing all well.

Welcome Lilacgranny – I wanted to share with you that is there is a piece of exercise equipment called the Chair Gym that might interest you. It has a lot of options using cords for above and below body exercises and folds very, very easily. It really does as opposed to the Total Gym which says it does – but truly does not. haha.. The Chair Gym folds right in half like a metal folding chair would should your space be limited. It is available online and probably in some stores – we got our at HSN but I have seen it on Amazon as well.

    Again, welcome !

    Day 6 UK NFD 🌈

Had a day out yesterday, πŸŽ’πŸŽ β›±Fast food lunch πŸ”πŸŸand milkshake πŸ₯›but one meal as didn’t need anything else for the rests of the day. Wine 🍷in the evening.

Productive day today at home. Every time I thought about what needed to be done around the house and garden🌞🌷🌿, I thought “JUST DO IT” so house and garden looking good and I feel good about being productive especially on a “lazy”Sunday, also good eating today as was busyπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ. Even fitted in some pampering time for me, relaxingπŸ› bubble bath and facial πŸ‘³πŸ»β€β™€οΈand body scrub. All ready for a new week.

Keep on keeping on people and if it gets you nearer your goal “just do it”! πŸ‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ₯—πŸŠπŸΌ

    Still Day 6, 2nd post

@molij – What a nice surprise, that big weight loss! Did you imagine that you had gained? Keep pushing ahead. Just think where you could be a month from now!

@bert1802 – What understanding parents! I would say that’s at least worth a home cooked meal or a car detailing later in the week. 😁 Or maybe their bright smiling faces will be payment enough! 😍

Qld. NFD. Well what a start to the week! Car broke down on the school run this morning and caused a big traffic jam, until some kind men came and helped me push it off the road. Ugh!
Luckily, my mother-in-law happened to drive past and see me, picked up my daughter and dropped her at school.
So, as an emotional eater, I naturally want to focus all that stress into a bag of chips or chocolate liquorice. However, I cleared out all the treats and have no car to go and re-stock!
Ps. I loved the sound of your weekend @lindasue. I have a 4 year old daughter and they say the funniest and most wonderful things.
@califdreamer I did laugh at “The great potato chip massacre”. I am guilty of those too. Once, I start, it’s all over. 😬

@amella46 – Re “The great potato chip massacre,” why is it that when we open a bag of potato chips or cookies, we feel compelled to finish the whole thing, to eat every last one so as not to have the temptation there later on? (Or some such goofy reasoning, when the garbage can would handle them just fine.) But opening a bag of celery or fresh green beans requires no such compulsion, and the darn things could sit there opened til they start to smell! 😏

Day 7 Australia FD (my first for months!) sorry but I was too busy over the weekend to check in and read the posts. I hope everyone is well. I weighed in this morning and am furious at myself and at my scales. Apparently I have put back on the 4kgs I lost in July! I know I have been overeating so I am not surprised by a couple of kgs but all 4? I think it is due to my on-going issue with the scales so I am going to take a new “first” reading with my new scales tomorrow and just go from there.

    Day 7 | Sydney Australia | Undecided

I don’t know whether to make today my 4th fasting day of the month thus far, or eat sensibly and ease into a fasting day tomorrow. I’ve got some unusual hours to work today which might disrupt any plans I have, so I’m not going to lock myself into anything.

Way too much bad eating on the weekend. Chocolate predominating, but plenty of other things that I shouldn’t have been eating. Even though I’ve been consistently losing weight in spite of these sort of binges (18 kg in 3 months) I know that I need to build some strategies to prevent them. I know that it is simple carbs that are the trigger for me, I probably need to start the day with a very low carb breakfast on the weekends and count calories the whole day.

My TDEE is around 3200. I would guesstimate that I ate 4,000+ calories both days. That is A LOT of calories. I should be aiming to consume my TDEE for my goal weight on NFDs (2900 calories).

So far today I’ve eaten some fresh papaya and some mushroom soup. The papaya was excellent and the mushroom soup as well. The mushroom soup was Campbells, in a long-life carton rather than a can.

    Day 6
    NFD
Having friends for dinner this week and “testing” some new appie recipes….! All good!
One more day of the the long weekend, The summer is at the half way mark here in Canada πŸ™
    Cheers!

    Day 7, Norway, FD
Today is my 8th day, i started my very first 5:2 journey Monday July 31. Today is my 3rd fast day, and Im full of energi like the past two FD’s. I thought i would be tired and have lots of headache (i “suffer” from daily headaches from before, so i thought this would really trigger it, but quite the oposite actually πŸ™‚ Win Win!).

I’ve been looking forward to stepping on the scale today, and OMG, made my day, and made me really looking forward to the next monday. I had lost 2kg (4,4lbs). And i even think i can see it my face. Even got a comment on it. I’m so pleased.

It’s gonna be a long 8hours at the office today, and then straight home, a long drive to Arendal (a city in Norway), to help re-do a kitchen.

    Day 7 UK FD 🌈

    Day 7/NFD/Melbourne Australia

Woke to a freezing cold and wet Monday morning. Thank you @metatauta, @coda, @big_bill, @debster251, @rocy65, @bert1802, @molij, @snowflake and @califdreamer for your kind thoughts and support. Very much appreciated. Love the idea of keeping a gratitude diary and writing down everything I achieve each day. Today was much better thank you. My DH took me out for lunch followed by a movie – Dunkirk. I’ve prepared a schedule for the week, not too onerous, small steps I can achieve. Walking and this forum help enormously. Thank you I find it very hard to open up to friends and family. Silly I know.

    @lilacgranny welcome

@rainbowsmile my heart goes out to you

Pocket winos, I may not be fasting, but I am abstaining during the week.

    Have a great week

    Day 7 Meath, Ireland, FD

It’s a bank holiday here but I gotta go to work so may as well have a FD while I am at it. Put in 2 pounds at the weekend with wine, Guinness and crisps in the pub, all thoroughly enjoyed.

    Day 7, UK FD

Posted earlier about doing 4 NFD together and got some good advice, but I found this weekend that I actually wanted to add in another FD yesterday. Couldn’t do a full FD as had meal plans in the evening, but managed to stick to just over 1,000cal (and that includes glass of wine).

After a week doing 5:2, I’ve now lost 3 lbs to get me to 12st 5. In Feb I weighed in at 13st 3, managed to lose about half a stone just upping exercise and being a little more careful about what I eat. Plan for the last week was just to log what I was eating on NFDs, but I found myself consciously going for the healthy stuff, although I definitely need to go on the pocket winos list!

My BMI is currently 30.6 (down from 32.7) and I’ve got 4 lbs to lose to get from Obese to Overweight so I’m going to add that to the target for August. Interested what other people in the ‘obese’ category wear in clothes sizes though, as I’m 14/16.

The other thing I’ve noticed this week is that my mood generally is hugely positive. After a really crap start to the year it feels like this next 6 months are going to be all good!

Hope everyone has a good day today

Day 2 | Cork, Ireland | CD (under 1000 cals)
Day 3 | Cork, Ireland | CD (under 1000 cals)
    Day 4 | Cork, Ireland | NFD
    Day 5 | Cork, Ireland | NFD
    Day 6 | Cork, Ireland | NFD
Day 7 | Cork, Ireland | Holiday here in Ireland but no reason that it shouldn’t be a FD – good luck to everyone fasting today.

    Day 7 UK FD

Fasting today because yesterday’s fast went badly and I need to do tomorrow’s work today as it is going to pour tomorrow. Which should be fun as I am hurting a lot because I ate the last container of yogurt yesterday despite knowing better. At least not buying more should be easy now. I very nearly ate the last packet of tortellini that has been lurking in the freezer too. I think I need to throw it away before I give in and spend a day suffering from it. I have been getting really hot during the night despite cool weather so I suspect menopause is regrouping for another go at me. I suspect losing more weight may be difficult. I may have to be vigilant just not to find it instead.

Days 7,8,9,10,11, Newcastle UK, FDs 800 or less.

Things that went well this weekend: Making good progress on getting my Dad settled into new home (thanks for kind comments). Had an alcohol free Sunday.
Things that didn’t go well this weekend: Totally pigged out Saturday night fuelled by too much wine. Ate an unnecessary dessert whilst out for Sunday lunch yesterday and a butter laden grilled cheese scone for breakfast (that meal that I don’t eat now….).

New strategy: Setting out my plan for the week – 800 cals or less Monday to Friday with a 23/1 eating window. Alcohol free apart from, probably, one pint of real ale on Wednesday evening. Accurately weigh and track calories.

@onahealthyhigh – good to read lots of sound advice and reassurance that you are going through a perfectly normal transition period. You may be doing this already but are there any volunteering opportunities in your community where you can use all the skills you have gained over your working life? After a lifetime of paid work, it’s not surprising that we feel guilty when we retire. It takes time to accept that other activities are just as worthwhile/valuable despite them not having a monetary reward at the end of the month.

All the best to you all for a great week. Together we are Stronger.

    Day 7, UK, FD

Day 7 – UAE – FD (Last day of b2b2b)

My b2b2b is ending today and it is going great. @rainbowsmile, I hope you are doing well with your fasting and everything else.

    Day 7 Belfast FD

Well my good intentions went out of the window Fellow Fasters and pocket winos. I ate and drank far too much and will pay the price when I step on cruella tomorrow. Same old story. 😱😯. Tomorrow’s a new day!

@steve Toon Taxi Driver you’ve worked so hard to look and feel good for these few special days. Just enjoy every moment and regroup when it’s all over. πŸ‘
@songbirdme – your choir setting sounds awesome. Would love to be there !
@basyjames @ those last few pounds always seem to be the hardest. Hang in there!
@rahul1905 – just press that reset button!
@molij – A fabulous result. Well done you!
@califdreamer – the pay check is the only downside of retirement. I love it and don’t know how I had time to work! I’ve signed up for an art class in the autumn – ‘creative textures’ and am looking at ballet barre (new class also) to go along with my swimming and Pilates. My reduced income seems to go on classes! Am also thinking of volunteering. I’ve put my name down to show my interest in volunteering for the RedCross.
@ Rainbowsmile- the end is in sight. Keep your chin up!
@kokua12 – an electronics break would do me the world of good too. I think I would find it hard😯
@quebecoise – family time is so special. Hope you enjoyed it!
Welcome @lilacgranny – pleased to have you on boardπŸ‘ 1lb a week is a very realistic goal, although there are many who lose much more. Good luck.
@lynzm sparkling house, garden and a sparkling you!
@amella46 – I feel for you – my OH helped a lady in distress who had broken down on a busy junction last week. Only one other person came to help, and he was shocked at the aggression when he tried to push her car off the road so it didn’t block the traffic.
@hannahwatto – scales are fickle things. It’s probably water retention.
@BigBill. – don’t beat yourself up over it. Your journey has been epic so far. We all have those little glitches. Today’s a new day.
@mjmj your summer fact is quite depressing! I used to hate to see the 1 st August because it heralded the month I went back to work! I can taste those apples. Mmmm!
@maayyaa congratulations on that loss. I can feel your enthusiasm!
@daffodil2010 – I can’t get to grips with Guinness, though I love the look of it. It’s probably a good job. It’s hard enough with gin and wine Lol!
@berries63 I was a size 16 when I started with a BMI of 29.8. It’s just a label really, isn’t it? Not a very nice one too, but it’s a great goal to lose the label!
@fatrabbit – those nightly overheats are a curse. I still suffer from them from time to time – its never ending! How are those bunnies doing? I miss your stories!

Lovely sunny start to the day here. Packing up to go home and back to porridge.

    Day 7, Wales, FD

A week into the challenge already! Today marks 6 weeks on 5:2 and it really feels quite natural now, even OH doesn’t notice I’m on a FD (no hunger bad moodiness).

    Day 7 UK NFD

Scales are showing a 0.5 kg eradication since the start of August but that has been hard fought. Have set a goal to reach 61kg by end of the month and now at 62.2kg. Still might be a bit ambitious but it’s something to aim for! Love reading all the posts and inspirational chat! Good luck to everyone.
    We have this!!

    Day 7 – Scotland – NFD
I usually fast on Monday, but tonight we have been invited out for dinner by a friend who is moving to Bristol, so FD postponed to tomorrow. Goal for today: do not binge just because tonight I may go overboard – in fact, I should try not to go overboard tonight either! He chose a fish restaurant, so I should be able to find something not too heavy. But I will definitely have a dessert!
