@stichincarol – do you know what time the heart surgery is tomorrow?

    Day 19 – 2nd post

@dramaqueen6 It starts at 11 my time, will take 3 hours, and then 3 hours in recovery before his wife can see him. For reference, it’s 2:38 as I type this.

    Day 20 FD NZ

    Morning All!
I’m back on my regular FD trying to keep it together. I like to plan a busy day to keep occupied on FDs but today I’m in procrastination mode… Housework and washing are on the agenda before computer work… I’ve done Wordle and Quordle…
@brightonbelle and @missybear If I threw out the clothes that didn’t fit my wardrobe would be half the size🤣 I pulled on my old 5kg lighter skinny jeans today in preparation for house cleaning. I can do them up with an overflowing muffin top and feel like I’ve been zipped into a sausage skin… But they’re on!
@michelinme What’s in your cabbage soup recipe? It’s becoming more Autumnal here and soup sounds just the ticket.

I also need to start logging how many calories I am eating. I hate counting calories and have been trying to stick to only fresh fruit and vegies on my FDs. But the emphasis tends to be on the fruit, which can contain a lot of fructose. Today I have sort of planned my food for the day. Planning my menu is another thing I am not good at. Mindless eating is one thing I am good at.

@northgeorgia the main reason I gave up on 5:2 many years ago was that I started binging on my NFDs. I am doing my best to not get into this habit again, but some days are better than others. So, I understand what your work colleague was saying.

    Day 20, Germany, FD800

After three days of sunshine it’s raining today. No dance class today so we’re going to do a bit of shopping in the Netherlands.

It seems we could fill a large shop with all our unworn too large or too small clothes together!

@dramaqueen6 Are there any exercises you can do to strengthen your core and back muscles? I also had to look up daith piercing, I don’t like the look but would consider to do it if I had migraine.

@funshipfreddie I hope you had a good sleep! Thanks for the links. I don’t think I’ll ever run a marathon or a longer distance. At school I was always good at sprinting but never did so well on the longer distances. How long will it take to get your house finished?

@missybear After losing 22 kg in 2017 I was sure I would never gain again and threw out almost everything that was too large for that weight. It was a mistake because a lot of the weight came back. I also think it’s the lack of confidence on keeping my weight stable that makes me hold on to clothes in different sizes.

@jaifaim Yes, it’s a nice place to exercise and I like it’s not anonymous. I wanted to try out neuro kinetics. Yesterday after the line dance class, the secretary came to me to tell me the teacher had a bike accident and the class would perhaps take place from June again. There are a lot of groceries we can’t get here but as we always cook from scratch we just cook with what’s available. If we want something different, we can get it in the Netherlands.

@stitchincarol I know where the weight comes from, too much sweets again. So many of us seem to have clothes in all sizes, only one size would be so nice and wouldn’t take up so much space.

    Day 20 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD800

Slid into a glass of red wine while watching the sunset yesterday evening, the excuse it had been a tough day…..go to stop self-medicating with wine.!! Slept wonderfully though, feel good today.

It’s a very very busy few months ahead, something on every weekend right up until July, and right now, as I stand on the threshold, I feel like running away. Just too much going on and although lots of them are fun family events, birthdays, parties, visitors, even being in the audience of a live TV show, …….my introvert self wants it all to be over 😨

Hey ho, as @stitchincarol pointed out with all the real serious health issues out there, I have little to be worrying about 😆

And oh @stitchincarol, how terrible not to be able to see the music sheet. I had to leave my office as I could not see the monitors, flashing lights and auras and dodgy sight. Ugh. Hope you get your migraines sorted.

    Have a great Thursday 👍

    Day 20 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

@snowflake56, @jaifaim – I managed 6 hours last night. Not enough for me to feel 100%, but heading in the right direction 😴 I do envy how cats can sleep for up to 16 hours per day 😅 Re the house – the bathroom will be mostly done by Friday. My furniture is coming out of storage on Sunday; and they’re only starting to fix up the wardrobes & kitchen cupboards on Monday! 😱 But that should hopefully not make too much of a mess, & I only have to vacate my rental place by the end of next week anyway. I don’t want to traumatise Boo Boo by moving her here when there’s still work going on too.

@missybear – that’s one of the things I love about fasting, how it teaches you to really appreciate every morsel. My FD apple, which I always have before my main FD meal, always tastes like heaven.

@daffodil2010 – I know exactly how you feel. I think I get more introverted the older I get. But then it seems to get easier to just say, ‘no thanks, I can’t make it’ too 😅

    156.2lbs

Hello all.. a good FD and a busybusy day…getting there.. focus is with me… but also helped by time being eaten up by many other things…

@michelinme it’s very exciting that you will be over our way! I hope you have lots planned. Where will the party be? 🙏 you feel better soon!

@stitchincarol yes had brain scan – nothing standing out..phew! Next thing to do is a whole suite of bloods and referral to neurologist but I’m trying to see if I can do this myself with diet and the cranial physical therapist … so am not in a rush to see another specialist until I work out what triggers the headache and vertigo.
Will think of your friend at 5pm here which is I think correct… you are 6 hours behind us and @dramaqueen6 at the moment? I’ve checked Omaha but maybe you are not that side of Nebraska? My brother was in Lincoln last year actually… hadn’t realised how close he might have been to you!

@merryapple as you know I hold onto the clothes I still like too! I’ve been on steroids and I’ve dropped weight over the past few decades years so know how easy it can be to need nice clothes in any size 😂
    @snowflake56 like you I suppose…💕

@malee57 consistent logging 📝 is the way to go!! I’m noticing better habits now… it’s taken three months of keeping note for the headaches/vertigo and I do believe it has helped hugely.

@daffodil2010 sorry to hear you are feeling overwhelmed by plans.. I get that feeling too from time to time but just make time to yourself to be with “you” when you can… if you can just take each event as it comes without thinking about the next.. i know it is easier said than done.. I may be able to guess the show – bit maybe not.. do you think there will be a gift for everybody in the audience?😉

    Ok must dash!

Have a great day everyone! My last day before hols.

    Day 20 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 FD

I didn’t sleep well last night, one of those tossing and turning nights with a busy mind and weary body! Today’s FD may be a challenge but I will succeed!!!

My Fitbit app has kindly informed me that if I lose one pound a week I will reach my target weight by 10 October. That seems so far away and I don’t think my body is capable of shifting a pound every week no matter how disciplined….but we’ll see. I selected the medium hard setting for weight loss with a daily calorie reduction of 500 calories which seems reasonable averaged out over a week of 2 FDs, 3 CDs and 2 NFDs. It will be the NFDs which will need the most discipline not to undo the good of the ‘diet’ days! At least I have the benefit of experience this time 😉

Another bright sunny morning here, so time to get my act together. Have a good day everyone 😎

    Day 20 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 216 lbs. Yeah, trending heavier this week. I find it interesting that psychologically, after a holiday or other type of “feast day,” my mind wants to have a few more of those within the next week or two. Looks like I tried to have a second Easter this week!

Thanks for the tips. I do need to start taking my lunch to work again to avoid the fast food high-carb traps. Of course, these sometimes get derailed by luncheon events. For this reason, I need to activate my “plan B” on those carbed-up days and plan for something both light and nutritious for the evening (or just give it a pass).

Good luck to our many fasters today!

    Day 20 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD – 152.0

I’m juggling enough balls right now–Christmas is a busy time, but Easter and the rest of April, May and early June are the busiest of all–that I can barely stand it. I like busy. This is NUTS. Oh well, nothing to be done about it.

@merryapple RESOLVE to you that the routine of housework gives you focus so you avoid the kitchen with all its temptations!

@malee57 I’m with you in being uninterested in the tedium of counting calories. Several people on this forum are so disciplined about it that they plan their meals and enter the calories into MFP at the beginning of each day…a discipline I only aspire to at this point. I think, however, if we really are serious about wanting to drop weight, it’s a crucial step to take, because otherwise it’s a 50-50 chance (or worse!) that we’ll actually succeed. Sadly.

@snowflake56 I smiled when you said your sunshine is gone, replaced by rain–same here on our patch of the Earth.

@daffodil2010 I’m with you on dreading the months ahead, LOL! As to kicking these headaches, I took Excedrin in the night and that got rid of that headache, and now I have muscle pain in the back of my neck, so pain, but not migraine, and advil will kick that. It will be lovely when I have no pain in any day!!! 😂

@funshipfreddie I’m sure you’re getting impatient to have all the work done so you can move in and start enjoying your new home!

@jaifaim I am indeed 6 hours off of the posted time on our forum, and a mere half hour away from the west edge of Omaha–that’s where I teach my piano lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lincoln is where our sons live, and it’s about 45-50 minutes to get to them, just block from the Haymarket area, which is the original downtown and train depot area.

Okay, must scoot out the door and get busy on today’s to-do list. Have a grand one, everyone!

    Day 20 UK FD!

This morning I weighed in down a smidgeon more, and feeling a little bit thinner! It’s all progress. VERY full day has led to an unplanned FD rather than FD800 but I’m banking it – quorn chicken with sweet chilli sauce and butternut squash/spinach/hickpea curry. I’m hoping for a happier weigh in tomorrow after 5xFD800s & 2xFD in the last 9 days – another 10 days to go of my reset.

I slept much better after shower and hairwash, which really helped with yesterday’s headache and muscle/joint/nerve pain. Up early and out to first short training session of new series with some trepidation. There were a few hiccups but a very relaxed atmosphere and all the participants were engaged and enthusiastic – the very first Q in the Q&A was ‘When does registration open for the whole day training?’ PHEW! I had a long but hugely productive meeting this afternoon and have now switched off until next Tuesday.

Tomorrow morning I’m planning to go to the Christian climate action panel discussion, service and march, part of The Big One Climate Action weekend organised by Extinction Rebellion and lots of charities around Earth Day. Two friends from different parts of the country are also going to be there, one lovey old friend and one I’ve only known online so looking forward to meeting in 3D. I’ve packed up a lunch of healthy food I can eat on the go to avoid temptation – eggs, beetroot, carrots, apple and seedy oat/raisin/cinnamon bread. Got to leave in 11 hrs so must sleep soon!

@stitchincarol thank you for your support. The grievance investigation is still ongoing but hopefully hear in c 2weeks

@missybear @stitchincarol @jaifaim I’ve also got clothes in LOTS of different sizes – I’m wearing my Bigger Clothes right now, have a drawerful of clothes 1-2 sizes down, and just got back a big bag of even smaller clothes from a friend’s loft: I won’t open the bag until I’m down at least 1 size!

@merryapple here’s the recipe for cabbage soup – I can’t remember what adaptations I made apart from adding some carrots, but it was pretty much this one https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/cabbage_soup/

@daffodil2010 @stitchincarol can you lighten up your weekend load even a little? I also get overwhelmed when there’s no breathing space ahead even if the things in the diary are wonderful

@jaifaim we’re in Dublin in second half of May and the party is at Orlagh House which looks AMAZING! No plans yet apart from the party and a lunch. I’d love to see something of the coast, perhaps getting a train somewhere. I’d be really glad of ideas from you and @daffodil2010 please! NB we’re on public transport and both have energy-limiting conditions. Also, I’m so sorry you are still having vertigo & headaches – hope it resolves/help found soon xx

    Day 21 Melbourne, Australia NFD

Yesterday saw a big return of my BBL (binging brain lizard) with unhappy results. I need to remember that I am in control of what I eat. Not always easy to keep in mind with the BBL on the rampage.

I’m going out for my god daughters birthday lunch today so I have no say over what food is on the menu, but I am the one doing the choosing.

I’m doing this on my phone which I find very difficult so that will be all for today.

I hope everyone has a good day.

    Day 21 NFD NZ

Thank you for all the birthday wishes. Birthdays are always a wee bit strange because I have a twin brother who lives on Berlin so our bday goes over two days😁 I have just baked a belated Chocolate birthday cake with 3 cups of grated zucchini in the mixture. It’s a fabulous way to eat your 5-a-day. Recipe available if anyone wants it! I was going to take it to the dog park with a bottle of bubbly (so I don’t eat it all myself) but it’s raining… we’ll have to regroup tomorrow which means I’ll be looking at it for 24hrs… with my hands tied behind my back…
@michelinme. Thank you for the recipe. I often use cabbage Chinese stir fry style. It’s nice to have a different recipe. Cabbages seem to last forever!
@malee57 I feel for you. May I suggest that when the BBL appears you go to this forum and reread or make an entry… I don’t know if it will help but it just might.
@daffodil2010 I do hope you can enjoy yourself rather than feel stressed by a too busy timetable.
Haha @stitchincarol. You know me too well! I did manage to not go snacking in the kitchen but the house was trashed by the time I finished. It rained so I ended up with damp sheets draped over chairs and a technician came to fix the leaking fridge and swap the door over which took 3 1/2 hours. It will be perfect soon!
@funshipfreddie What fun putting your new home together! I have just bought a Charles Rennie Mackintosh Ingram chair at auction so I’m rearranging the furniture. I designed a tartan for DH and had it registered with the Royal Tartan Authority in Edinburgh. We had the three different colourways (red, green and acid yellow) woven in Scotland. I’m going to put one on the Mackintosh chair seat.
Onward and downward one and all!
I’m trying to post this fifth go coming up…

    Day 21, Germany, FD800

Just a quick post this morning as I’m running late for our early dance class. The sun is out, it’s going to be a beautiful day today.

I’m amazed by the busy lives you all live!

@brightonbelle “how lbs and body shape aren’t always linked”, I have the same feeling.

@jaifaim Yes, I’m also a keeper of old clothes. I still have a childhood dress my mother made and my oldest grown up skirt with matching jacket are from 1975. I still wear the jacket but the skirt is too tight on the waist nowadays.

@funshipfreddie Only a few days to go!

Time to get a shower and head on to dance class.

    Day 21 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

    Fri-yay!!!

Keeping to the 18:6 and hovering over a weight that in just half a pound will bring me into the next decade lower. This week has not been fully compliant but I think I can call 2lbs down from this day last week.

My dinner with friends for tonight was postponed (yay!!! I know I am an introvert as I am delighted when things get cancelled, even if I was looking forward to it 😄), so there is just a birthday party on Sunday afternoon which gives me plenty of me time.

Lol @jaifaim, you got that TV show right on, hopefully there will be something nice for everybody in the audience the night we go, which is only a couple of weeks away! And coming to the end of Ryan’s tenure too! We were invited to a suprise 80th party and a trip to the LLS is part of the surprise for the birthday boy. Who knows, Ryan may speak to him, so my lovely face might be on live TV in the background. Ooooohhh 😳

Wow @michelinme, you are going to my old home neighbourhood! My Dad still lives in Rathfarnham. I did not realise that Orlagh House was open for parties etc, I think it was a place where you could go on retreats 30 years ago. It looks FAB. And the views over Dublin are great! Enjoy!

Have a great Friday all !!!

    Day 21 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Successful but trying FD over with, & I finally got over 7 hours’ sleep. I hope everyone else had an easy one 🎯

    @michelinme – Orlagh House looks stunning 😍

@merryapple – the ‘fun’ in putting my new place together has eluded me so far. I could’ve binged on a bottle of something very strong after yesterday 😤 Re tartan – I never realised how many different designs there are – literally thousands – & more being designed every year! I proudly wore a tam o’shanter as a kid in the ’70’s when I visited Scotland. I probably looked like a right plonker 😅

    @daffodil2010 – yay on the postponement! 😂

    Happy Fri-yay y’all! 🍹

    Day 21 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 CD

Friday morning weigh in……4 lbs down 🙂
Feeling motivated to continue with the boring food logging / calorie counting. It is the first weigh in of my fresh start so I expect future weekly losses will be a fraction of a pound….. I just have to keep on the downward trend 🐢

Pondering whether to allow for a little 🍷over the weekend 🤔
Perhaps I should switch my weigh in day to Mondays next month…..that might make for better NFDs over the weekend. First day of May is a Monday so it’s decided, I’m going to log Monday weights next month 😬

@michelinme have a wonderful time in Ireland

@jaifaim happy holiday to you too!

Have a good day everyone 🤗

    Day 21-No.VA, USA-FD

I have been following along but not posting much over past few weeks. Am approaching one month on the WOL and have lost 5 lbs as of this morning. So progress at last! But still a ways to go. Everyone’s successes are motivating, as we all see it is sometimes two steps forward, one step back…@Daffodil2010, I was intrigued by your comment about being an introvert…I, too, am often happy when events get cancelled, even though I was also looking forward to them a bit. Just how we are!
And encouragement to @funshipfreddie: moving is supposedly one of the three great stressors in life, on some lists by “experts”. Not easy to do, but very worth it once complete.

Weigh-in: 218 lbs. I did an OMAD supper yesterday by accident, but couldn’t stop bingeing for some reason. Need to start with the veggies and proteins, especially when at home and can control it more. I think I must be subconsciously self-medicating with comfort food. No no… got to stop treating food that way 🙂

    Day 21 UK NFD

Hey well done @jaifaim and enjoy your hols

That’s the difficult part @missybear – stopping at “a few “ but you’ve done great so far

    Have a good day all

    Day 21 – Rural Nebraska, USA – TDEE – 150.0

I was reflecting yesterday that I call days NFD when what I really mean is a maximum of 1500 calories, so “TDEE” is what I’m going to use from now on in an attempt to ensure I’m mentally prepared for a limit rather than having any hint of permission to eat with abandon… 😂 We’ll see if it helps at all.

@michelinme There’s no lightening what I have in front of me except to get things done on time, so I’m hugely focused on accomplishing everything on each day’s list. As a procrastinator, that’s hard, but when I do, not only does it lessen the stress, but I feel so amazingly proud of myself for being a grownup about things!

@malee57 So disappointing the day after the BBL has made an appearance, huh? I’ve experienced that too, but don’t doubt you can resume control!

@merryapple Staring at but not eating your chocolate birthday cake? Now that’s some serious will–or should I say won’t–power!

@snowflake56 I used to have a friend who, when you asked if wanted to do something, would look at her calendar and turn you down if ANYTHING was on the calendar. Like, “run to town for groceries in the morning” meant she and her husband couldn’t come to dinner that night. I always found that so odd, LOL.

@daffodil2010 Good for you to be down 2 pounds from last week!

@funshipfreddie I again didn’t last on the water fast yesterday, and had a handful of red grapes and 0.6 ounces of cheddar (I weighed my little bit this time). Total calories: about 110, I think. And it certainly makes the morning after much easier, since I’m not quite as hungry as I would be otherwise.

@missybear Loved your stream-of-consciousness on the decision to make Mondays your official weigh-in day in May, and WELL done on being down 4 pounds!

@excelsior12309 Well done on being down 5 pounds! That’s a HUGE accomplishment!

@jaifaim CONGRATULATIONS!!! Have a grand holiday!!

Thanks to all of you who expressed sympathies on the migraine cluster. The break-the-cycle Nortriptyline seems to be working/helping, and also makes me sleepy, so I was in bed a bit before ten last night, slept straight through to almost 6, decided I was so awake I should just read a bit before getting up–but was sleepy again by 6:30 and then slept until 9! Sleep is an important component of losing weight, so that’s nice, but it sure makes mornings tough when I’m struggling to fully wake up, LOL! But I think I’m finally fully functional, so I’m going to get to work on my list for today; that’s the best stress-reliever of all, is to accomplish the things that need doing.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

Wow!! I had forgotten how much time toddlers and babies took up. Such a lovely time with them but it takes about half an hour to go a few hundred metres as we investigate all the sticks and stones and flowers. 🤗
Keeping many sizes of clothes seems to be a familiar habit with many of us.
I made that mistake last time but NOT this time!! One clothes are too big they go OUT !!! That sank me last time, knowing I could always ‘ go up a size’. NO MORE !!!! 😁
@missybear Re calorie counting : I had never counted calories before I started 5:2. in late 2016.
It was such an eye opener. Although I was eating ‘ healthily’ I was eating WAY too much of everything.
I hate crunching the numbers 😠but I still need to do it from time to time to keep me on track.😲
And I find I am am much more effective on NFDs keeping to TDEE.
That I think is the biggest problem for a lot of us – that we sabotage our FDs by over doing it on NFDs.
I now try to only have FDs and CDs until I get back to a more healthy weight. Still a way to go…..
@michelinme,considering all you are going through you are going well. Hope the headaches abate.😔
@excelsior12309, well done on the loss.💐
@jaifaim, Congratulations on making target !!!!!!!!!!😇 Enjoy your holiday !!
@merryapple, a very belated congratulations on your significant birthday. 🥂
@funshipfreddie, getting some of your things out of storage will be progress. 👏Better sleep certainly is beneficial.
@northgeorgia, it would be interesting to know why you/ we self-medicate with food 🤔
    @daffodil2010, so close !!!!! 💐
@snowflake 56 your dance classes sound so good. 😊
@malee57 it is difficult when one goes out for meals. But as you say, YOU get to chose what you eat.
I got to the point where I had to ask myself why I chose to be fat which stopped me consuming a lot of things I would previously have mindlessly consumed.
WE are ALL in control of what we eat. 😲
    @stitchincarol, day at a time….😊
Our darling GD will be up in a few hours and ready to hit the ground running so I had best be off to bed and try to catch some zzzzzzs.
    Have a good day all.
Women who are overweight tend to live longer than a person who mentions it…. 🤣

Day 21 UK NFD / TDEE

Just checking in for daily accountability and will catch up on posts tomorrow. I’m Knackered after climate change church service and march. I got pretty wet on the way there and then slightly sunburnt at the end – yay for April’s changeable weather.

But this morning I weighed 172lb, down a miraculous 4lb in 10 days. I also could feel something of a waist again, rather than the awful puffy feeling I had over Easter. I know it’s EOEO but it’s the EO on repeat that has got me here, so delighted to be breaking the pattern. I won’t be fasting this weekend while DD stays but will stick to TDEE and 16:8 then pick up FD800s again next week M-F

Thank you for your wonderful company in this tough week and on this bumpy waggon. It’s so good to be back xx

    Day 22 NFD NZ

@jaifaim Huge congratulations on reaching your target!
Hope you reward yourself on your hols (with something other than food!)
On calorie counting – the thing I love about this WOL is NOT counting calories. It’s been an opportunity to normalise my relationship with food for me. If I have eaten too much too often and the scales don’t change I get annoyed with myself for wasting the hard graft of the FDs and subsequently self regulate. Then that puts me in a good head space. I am still prone to EFS when the controls come off for one reason or another but am trying to break the cycle of misusing food.
I’m finding it helpful to organise and write down these sorts of thoughts too.
@stitchincarol the cake is still whole. I suspect if I cut a slice I would be in trouble! So glad your headache treatment is working.
@funshipfreddie Were you a keen Bay City Roller? I was!!!
On the premise of ‘idle hands…’ I have dug out my spinning wheel and started spinning up a kg of Gotland roving. I might over dye it with purple but need to do some tests first. It’s a natural dark charcoal colour and a sheen of purple could be interesting.
Onward and downward one and all!

    Day 22 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Great to hear of all the progress being made this week! @missybear, @excelsior12309, @michelinme 🎯🎯🎯 🏆

    @jaifaim – congratulations on reaching your goal! 🥳️ 🎉 🎈 and bon voyage! ✈️

@stitchincarol – I don’t think I’ve ever done a water/liquid fast. I’d probably disappear if I did. But I feel fortunate that I never feel hungry in the mornings, even after a FD.

@excelsior12309 – moving is stressful alright. Although this is a sort of mini-move – just half a km away – it’s my 5th move in 4 years. I’ve sold/bought 3 times & had two rental places since 2019. Never again! 🥴️

    Day 22 – 2nd Post

@merryapple – The Bay City Rollers?! I wasn’t their #1 fan, but who could forget ‘Bye Bye Baby’? 😂

    Day 22 UK NFD

We must be a similar age @merryapple and @funshipfreddie 🤔 but it was Donny Osmond for me

    Have a good weekend all

    Day 22 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

It was David Cassidy on my teenage bedroom wall 😂

@funshipfreddie I didn’t realise you had moved so many times recently. I’m both excited and nervous about our house going on the market in a few weeks time….. I know who to ask for advice if needed 😉

I succumbed to a carefully measured glass of brandy last night…..enjoyable and I was still within my CD calorie limit, but as you so rightly pointed out @brightonbelle the difficult part is stopping once you have a drink…..so my challenge for this weekend is a measured 🍷then no more!

And on the subject of 🍷hope you are doing well @penz 👋

Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend 🤗

    Day 22 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 219 lbs. Wow, I lost the plot this week! I have several stressful weeks of travel, end of academic term, and business luncheons and dinners ahead. I think I need to focus on what I’m doing at home and when the choices are truly mine to make. Time to thaw something in the freezer and make a delicious meal to look forward to (which is usually low in those terrible processed carbs!)

Anyway, FD begins tomorrow, and time to plan for a reset and some weight loss in May.

    Day 22, Germany, FD800
    Day 21 NFD

Yesterday was not a good day. When things go wrong in the morning, it seems everything goes wrong the whole day. We thought it would be better today but no, at 7 am my DH got a phonecall from work. His new collegue didn’t show up for work again, third time in 3 months, so he had to get up and go to work.

@jaifaim Congratulations, you did it! Enjoy your holidays!

@merryapple I didn’t know you could register newly designed tartans.

@michelinme What a lovely place for a party!

@stitchincarol I think you were referring to the post of @daffodil2010 about cancelling a dinner appointment. I’m so glad the Nortriptyline works!

@missybear, @michelinme and @excelsior12309 You’re also doing very well this month!

@lilymartin Dance classes are always fun even if everything goes wrong. I threw most of my too large clothes out in 2017 and bought new ones in the small size I was then. After gaining back a lot I bought everything again in a larger size. I really have to throw out the larger sized clothes. I plan to do it next week when my DH is at work. He doesn’t like me throwing things out.

@funshipfreddie Was BooBoo with you on all your moves? The Bay City Rollers were fun!

@brightonbelle My sister was a big Donny Osmond fan. Like @missybear I liked David Cassidy. Later I moved on to George Harrison and Eric Clapton.

As I didn’t do my FD yesterday I’m going for it today!

    Pocket list day 22

    @snowflake56 FD800

    Have a nice day everyone!

Day 22 almost day 23 country west Australia CD
I seem to only be free after 10 pm at present with a houseful of family.
Unfortunately they have brought with them a different stomach bug – This time a vomiting one!! And I currently have 3 who are taking it in turns to visit the bathroom to vomit!! Fun times.
Dinner was therefore chicken broth which went down well all round for those with an appetite – and a few simply passed on dinner altogether.
Between stomach bugs and 5:2 I m actually doing quite well with Cruella. Clothes are fitting much better!!
@snowflke56, yes some days do not go well. Sorry to her your husband had to go to work in place of his colleague.
@northgeorgia, home cooing is often the best and easiest solution and at least you know what I in your meal.
@missybear, here’s to a controlled weekend on the brandy front!
@michelinme, checking in for accountability is really good and helps keep the focus.
Can just hear 2 people on rotation in the bathroom so had better run to see if sheets need changing.
    More tomorrow.

    Day 22 UK NFD

This morning back to 80kg after more relaxed Friday but still within TDEE. Having eaten ‘treat’ chocolate I found that my body really didn’t like the sugar – but instead of feeling guilty and beating myself up I started researching recipes for healthier vegan rocky road. I’ll try to make some next weekend, with raw cacao etc – I’d forgotten that even existed! This feels like the resetting relationship with food that I was hoping for.

It’s LOVELY to have DD staying for a long weekend. She’d just heard that her higher risk time for secondary tumours is two years taken from when treatment started ie 16 months ago, so just 8 months to go. Most scans and tests coming up to keep an eye.

I cooked a veggie brunch for us both at midday then had jacket potato and quorn chicken for supper, all comfortably within TDEE. Tomorrow I’m in town for church and meeting a friend for lunch at the climate action where all the food is vegan so I’ll eat lots of veggies!

@lilymartin sorry your family are all sick! Hope you and they feel better v soon

@jaifaim CONGRATULATIONS on reaching your goal – that is EPIC!!! Hope you are having a wonderful holiday xxx

Day 23 country west Australia CD
@michelinme, the reset is so important for many people, myself included.
It is interesting to read over the past few months how some people are ZBC but some prefer food in the morning to ‘ break the fast’.
Leptin and ghrelin, those 2 rascally hormones set the scene for much of our appetite.
I think this is how it works :
Some of us aren’t hungry until the first mouthful of food, and then ghrelin leaps into action letting us know that we are hungry and need to eat. And that kicks off the appetite
Leptin is about the satiety factor and lets us know when we are full and should stop eating.
Unfortunately due to excessive food consumption, a lot of people have hit the override switch with leptin, ignore the signals and we continue to eat.
It can be the reason that we then feel ‘ stuffed’ or ‘ I shouldn’t have had that extra serving/ last biscuit/scone/ etc. Over time leptin doesn’t work as well for us any more .
It usually takes about 20 minutes after eating for satiety to be felt.
The Japanese and some other cultures often only eat until they are 80% full.
It has taken me 5 years to get back to this !!!!!! Mainly due to 5:2 resetting my appetite.
    What are other people’s thoughts/experiences ?
Off to load a truck. 6am on a Sunday morning…… It’s not church bells – but still too early for me!! Still when you can get transport to cart your stock, you have to take it !!
Have a very pleasant Sunday all. Hoping it is a day of rest and reset.
    🙂

Day 22 – Rural Nebraska, USA – TDEE

It was early out the door this morning, and then home just after lunch, but my routine is to chat with you all first thing in the morning, so it never occurred to me to do it at 2:15 pm or some such odd time, LOL!

@michelinme How nice to be down 4lbs already! Well done, and EOEO, indeed! And only 8months for the first milestone? NICE.

@merryapple You’re a spinner? COOL. I don’t want to learn and find out if I love it, because I already have way too many hobbies that I don’t have time for, so I’ll just marvel at you from a distance, and think how cool it is!

@funshipfreddie I should clarify that I don’t feel hungry in the morning after a WF, because all food repulses me in the morning, regardless of what I ate the day before …but there’s a level of emptiness that I’m aware of, and hunger kicks in earlier after a WF than it does after a FD500, where–like you–I eat all my calories in the evening. At my meeting this morning, there were three breakfast casseroles, and fresh fruit, and juice, and it smelled GLORIOUS–and I didn’t have a bit of it, LOL. There are significant advantages to being a permanent member of the ZBC!

@lilymartin Bummer on the stomach flu running through your house!

Tomorrow after church DH and I have about an hour to change clothes, eat a quick lunch, pack a suitcase and get in the car for a 2½ hour drive for a marriage retreat; we’ll be done on Tuesday at 11 in time to drive home, leave DH here, and for me to keep driving another 40 minutes to Omaha to teach piano. So I won’t be back to chatter until next Wednesday. Have a grand one, everyone!

    Rural Penna. USA
This is my first post. And first 5:2 fast attempt. Started 6 April 5:2 and have so many questions. I have yet to shed weight after 16 days. I read how folks say be patient. I will be yet concerned about not feeling better as so many folks share. Getting “un-regular” has made me less than comfortable. So today I worked extra hard to drink 96oz of water hoping. Will take all advice from those of you who have been happy and successful. Thanks. 🤞

@quadpa Welcome to our group! I don’t blame you for being frustrated that you’re not seeing results, and after sixteen days, I would also expect you to have dropped at least a little bit. Can you share more specifics about how often you’re fasting, whether you’re doing a regular 500-calorie fast, or some variation, etc., etc.? Also how many calories are you eating on non-fast days? That’s where all of us struggle: once you’ve been doing this for awhile, a FD becomes quite easy to follow and eat the correct number of calories (or just drink water as I choose to do twice a week), but eating a reasonable number of calories–no more than you’re burning off!–on a non-fast day is a HUGE challenge for all of us.

So give us details, and we’ll try to help you out!

@quadpa But I’m going to bed right now, and it’s 3:19am for all our England/Ireland/Wales people, so it might be tomorrow before you see any comments. 😉

    Day 23 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD – St George’s Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🐉

@quadpa – welcome! And ditto what @stitchincarol said. After 16 days I would’ve expected you’d lose some weight too. But then it also depends on how much you need to lose & what your current BMI is.

@snowflake56 – I adopted Boo Boo 2 years ago during my third move. I had her flown from Durban to Port Elizabeth last year, & then she spent a month in a cattery. She still hasn’t forgiven me.

@missybear, @brightonbelle & @snowflake56 – David Cassidy was way bigger than Donny Osmond in the UK. I mean, he was even on Blue Peter! 😅

@lilymartin – urgh?! That sounds like Norovirus? Spreads like crazy in confined spaces. But at least it’s brief, the worst symptoms are over within a day or so. Re the hunger hormones & all that – after 7 years of fasting I hate that stuffed feeling now. I’m guilty of lightly grazing sometimes, but I just don’t indulge in the EFS now. I often feel like I want something more after my main evening meal; but on FDs that disappears after a sugar-free drink or after just waiting it out.

Got to dash. My furniture is coming out of storage today. The fun never stops 😳

    Pocket List – Day 23 🍒
    @funshipfreddie
    @northgeorgia

    Day 23, Germany, NFD

@lilymartin I hope the sick people in the house feel a bit better today. I hardly do breakfasts nowadays, I got used to it and don’t feel I need it. The thing I still have problems with is the 80% full. I don’t feel it, so when I’ve finished eating, after a while I feel it was too much. I between meals I sometimes go on the hunt for something to eat although I’m not hungry. Just the feeling I need to nibble on something.

@funshipfreddie What a strange idea to want to stay young forever, why would you? I’m not sure illnesses can always be avoided by a healthy lifestyle. Someone close to me always lived a healthy life but was diagnosed with cancer. Enjoy seeing your furniture again! Only a few days now before you and Boo Boo can finally move in.

    @stitchincarol Enjoy your stay!

    Have a nice day everyone!

@stitchincarol and @funshipfreddie thank you for the kind replies. I am amazed and delighted to have this global group to learn from. I have a TDEE of 1690 I have 40lbs to lose. 2 FD are usually Mon/Thurs (sometimes need to change bc of schedule). These are 500-600 calorie days. I eat about 1400-1500 on NFd and track with MFP. I am a college senior staffer (61) and since this is the end of term I am not as active as I would like to be. It’s the disruption of my regularity and discomfort on not going regularly that is perplexing. Two years ago I lost 35 lbs on WW. I broke a leg and got all messed up with both food and activity. I don’t like the new plan there and wanted to get the additional benefits of 5:2. I value all your thoughts.

    Day 23 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Keeping busy to delay brunch and nearly forgot to login. The weekend is going well so far 👍

@lilymartin once I start eating the hunger dragon awakens and I don’t seem to have a stomach full indicator, perhaps I am one of those whose body doesn’t respond to leptin as it should 🤔 nice to think it isn’t just that I am greedy 😉. Hope everyone in your household feels better soon.

@quadpa Welcome to our thread. Are you eating plenty of vegetables every day including your FDs? I have a sluggish bowel so I am careful to use most of my 500 calorie FD allowance on vegetables. Nuts are a good healthy source of fibre, think about including 30g of mixed unsalted nuts on your NFDs. Increasing exercise can also help to get things moving, even just a little more walking……and keep drinking plenty of water. The constipation might explain the disappointing weight loss so track your daily fibre intake.

Have a good day everyone 🤗

    Day 23 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in: 218 lbs. OK, last week was out of control. The busy-ness of this upcoming week may have a positive side and at least get the bingeing under control. It has also made me sick and tired of fast food, so I’ll certainly be looking at something for the crockpot or oven. Long story short, just a lot of family influence to “pick something up” for the evening most of the week. Once or twice maybe is OK, but… anyway, overload!

Good day to fast, reflect, put things in order, and reset. As I trended two pounds higher over March, I doubt I make my target for April. Got to be more attentive to detail in May.

    Pocket List – Day 23 🍒
    @funshipfreddie
    @northgeorgia

    Day 23 UK NFD

Quick check in for accountability. I had early lunch in town with friend today ahead of climate march. There wasn’t anything vegetarian & gf so lovely friend & i got two veg each and shared them – sweet shredded red cabbage, peppery cauliflower, minty petit pois and soft courgettes – yum. I then *rebalanced* my super healthy start to the day with chocolate & jelly beans on the climate march! Now waiting for DD to get home for supper and feeling in need of protein ahead of this week’s fasting.

Looking forward to Mon-Thurs FD800 and that lovely light feeling.

    Day 24 Melbourne, Australia NFD

I’m concentrating on managing the BBL this week. Then aim to get back to fasting next week. I may be able to do a FD this week, but if I don’t, I’m not fussed. My mind is really not wanting to think about restrained eating at the moment so I’m talking to myself aloud to try and jolt a change in thinking. I’ll see how that goes.

@quadpa welcome to the group. I am thinking along the same lines as @missybear. Try to up your fruit and vegies and maybe supplement with added fibre. And lots of fluid. And exercise helps activate the neurons to get the bowel moving. I also have a sluggish bowel (thanks mum and grandma) and need to be very careful about getting lots of fibre in my diet.

@michelinme planning on making the cabbage soup today – very nice as the weather here is getting colder.

    Day 24, Germany, NFD

No line dance class today as the whole group is having breakfast together. No idea what will be on offer but I don’t plan to eat much. Perhaps I’ll end up with a CD.

@quadpa Welcome! On my FDs I try to eat as much protein and fibre as I can to keep me full. I avoid anything with sugar in it as I makes me hungry. I also plan what to eat every day, without a plan it’s easy to overeat.

@funshipfreddie Cats do have a good memory! I keep thinking about this man who tries to stay young, does he have a social life?

    Have a nice day everone!
