  • Symba7– What?!? You’re stock-piling bottles of Red Wine AND bars of chocolate? When we reach our Goals, I nominate celebration party at Symba7’s house! 🙂

SlimnHealthy– Good luck fasting till festivities today! That’s my plan too. Aiming for just calorie-free liquids until the neighborhood block party, grille out. We can DO IT!

fastdutchgirl– So glad to read “mice meat” was just a typo! And “Cheers!” to another cyclist. 60 km is quite the ride. I have to break up my 42 km commute with an 8 hour work day in between 🙂 (also I’m only up to doing it twice per week. Will try more as my endurance improves.)

Rocy65– The birthday celebration you described sounded so lovely…right up to the violently sick part. 🙁 Hope the little guy feels better quickly!

Pinkie2– your “large helping of ice cream for lunch” sounds fun. Ice cream is my giant weakness, can’t even have it in the house, I’d fall face first into a pint jug if it was around. Totally understandable.

Clemmi– we’re all rooting for you to fit into those jeans after this Challenge too. You can do it!

B2tF– Wow! good job on the giant freezer clean-out! Making room for the good (Mmmm! Blueberries.) That task is on my To-do List too, been putting it off though because it’s so pretty outdoors, I get distracted.

Sbird220– Your body will adjust & the Fast Days do get easier. Be sure and check in if you have any questions or concerns, there’s loads of experience & support on these forums.

Hi All from another wet day 🙁 – looks like another wet run.

Coolcat – where in Ireland do you usually reside?

    JML60 – stick with it!

JFitzy – I had read about the bullet proof coffee and was going to give it a go – can you do it with just ordinary instant coffee? May just try it and see how it goes – the ones I read about only said about the butter and that put me off a bit but if I can put cream in it that may help. Will let you know when I do.

Just be cautious everyone – It is great that you are all planking but check the form every now and then if possible to make sure you are not stressing anything other than the abs. I suggest morning and evening of a couple of repetitions. Build up slowly to allow your muscles to strengthen.

    Well done everyone!

    Dorset UK Day 4
    NFD

So yesterday was a FD and I managed with a meal of just over 300 cals in the evening.
Did my 20min HIIT and decided that 3 minutes of abs exercises is probably ok so didnt do the plank!

Today I skipped breakfast and ate just after 1pm and enjoyed a bowl of yogurt with sugar free muesli. That felt like a treat 🙂
Fridge is looking a little empty so tonights meal will be a salad with whatever I can find to go with it. Shopping for top up healthy food tomorrow!
I have already done my 20min HIIT which I found really hard today. I dont know if it was because of my fast yesterday …. anyway I did it, and as Ive done my exercise early in the day I will do plank x 3 later on, although I dont expect to manage beyond 50 secs each…we’ll see 🙂

Weight is down another half pound, so a pound off from Friday, but its only Monday, so head down and onwards to see what the scales say this Friday.
Tomorrow is another FD, as well as Thursday, as Im doing 3 a week for July, so that could be challenging….will have to plan lots of things to do to keep busy!

Im reading all the posts, its great to see so much positivity but there are so many I cant remember who’s who so cant comment on them all!!

Keep going everyone….today is mid way through the week…3 days down and 3 days ahead 😉

US, Day 4, NFD….large dinner out showing on scale this am. Going home tomorrow. May make it a fast day, instead of Wednesday. Got through 20 minutes of an advanced Pilates sculpting circle DVD. That felt good. (My sister gave up early on.)

Lunch out at riverside cafe. Skipping breakfast.

Annual viewing of 1776 before fireworks!

    Day3/4 France NFD

There is so much going on. I don’t know what day it is. Yesterday I was pumping out the pool and mowing more grass. The pool had too much cyanuric acid. Ok so now it is filling. It is nearly there. It takes ages to fill and I am scared witless of forgetting about the water running, so I have to keep checking every couple of hours. I plan to let the place to earn a crust in the summer, and I have a sort of semi camping place I made up in the barn where I live when all this goes on.

Sorry, I know this is nothing to do with diets.

With Brexit my pension has plummeted, and we have to do something to make ends meet. In France we expats are all terrified of being kicked out since if the British no longer honour our health payments then we have no health care. I so hope article 50 never happens.

I went to the chamber of commerce last week to declare my new business.

I went to see the consultant again this morning, again I have to go in to hospital, in August, which is one of the weeks I was still hoping to let the place. I have it on special offer by now. The season is very short. So far I have let four weeks. There were five, but one cancelled.

I have a growth in my throat and some thing wrong at the other end, and the consultant thinks he can send cameras up both ways and then we will see. You can imagine how today’s fast day panned out.

There was a small triumphal moment when he asked me how heavy I was, and I said 69 kilos. It used to be 80 kilos.

I am all over the place; cleaning the house, removing things to the apartment in the barn, mowing grass, planting flowers in tubs, worrying if they might dry out. It has been a nice sunny day today. I wish I wasn’t crying so much.

I should be happy. At the weekend a fairly eminent body in the UK wrote to me to ask if I want to work with them on line teaching basic finance and management accounts in French. That used to be my career, in London, though not in French. I should be interviewed any day soon on line.

I haven’t done any planks yet. I did look at a you tube to tell me what a plank was, does that count?

    Hi Coda

Yes I just make it with regular instant coffee – I use Gold Blend. The thought of the butter used to put me off too but, to be honest it is really lovely. I am sort of hooked on it !!!

The trick is to whisk it so it doesn’t separate. Let me know when you try it 🙂

Hi, I’m from the UK, am I too late to join? I have started 5:2 today and this is my first FD, couldn’t join before as Internet has been down.

    Thank you
    Jayne

Oh dear ABC1 poor you sounds as if you are having a bad time. However it is good to see that you still have your sense of humour – looking at the plank on You Tube should definitely count in your case!

That is good news about the job though and hopefully that will work out for you – good luck with the interview when it happens.

ABC1 – :hugs: You poor thing. That is a hell of a lot on your plate. I really hope there is nothing much wrong. Good news on the job though.

    Austin Tx Day 4

    Hi y’all,
Did all my TDEE tallies this week. I think Saturday night’s outing put me even as far as calories in and out. Hopefully the magic of fasting will keep me going down for next weeks weigh in.

Its hubby’s birthday today as well as 4th, so no hope for a fast today, but ill wait as long as possible and eat some high nutrient dense first.

    Day 4 (USA-IL) NFD
Happy 4th of July to all of us Americans!

Lazy day for me but will try to workout some. Found a good place for a 15 minute brisk walk to do early morning or at sunset.

BBQ and picnic this evening with family – will do my best not to overeat! (or over drink but like lots of you, I do love my red wine)

Day 4 in Los Angeles — ABC I hope this day treats you better. Try to find some moments to breathe slowly and be calm if you can.
Been very busy here — no dedicated exercise but lots of running around. Walked my 10K steps yesterday. Today would normally be a FD for me, but it’s a holiday and my daughter is coming home after a long trip, so I think I’ll do the FD tomorrow.
Onward and upward (or should that be downward?)!

    Day 4, India, FD
Scales showing 3.5 pounds gain after no fast day for last 7 days and really eating ANYTHING on the family vacation last week. I am being positive that a lot of it would be water weight, since I am feeling really bloated. Today’s fast was a bit tough.. started a headache around 10 in the morning (maybe it’s because of such a long gap in my fasts.. body is less used to the fasts now???). Ending today with exact 500 calories! No exercise today. Will be more active from tomorrow.

Just realised that I haven’t put in my stats till now.. Here it goes for today..

    Weight – 158.6 (72.1 kg)
    Bust – 38.5
    Waist – 32.5
    Tummy – 36.5
    Hips – 41
    Calf – 15.75
    Thigh – 23.5

I am getting inspired to try planks after reading all the comments! I have never done it in my life.. my core is not very strong.. but I think I will try it..

    Day 4 Italy – NFD

Done a couple of 20 second planks. Should finish the day at about 1800 cal.
Can’t wait to get on the scales tomorrow!

Day 4. Cotswolds, UK: Fast Day. I last ate at 5pm yesterday so have just over half an hour to go before my 2 boiled eggs and wholemeal bread roll. I can’t wait!
Sbird220, you won’t feel ill and hunger doesn’t increase beyond a certain level, which just comes and goes. Keep busy and, importantly, drink loads of water all day. Don’t get dehydrated. You can do it.

    India. Day 4.
    FD 292 calories.
Struggled through this one:( so I’m glad the day is almost done. Worked out at the gym.
    Gn

Day 4 also struggling on fd after binge eating for the last three days….had a lunch of fruit and brown rice about 3 will look to finish off my 500 cals around 6 with a healthy snack. Trying to drink lots of water to see me through. Went for a 30min walk this morning and attended a mindfulness group which i really enjoyed! Plan on doing 3 sets of planks as soon as my little monkey wakes from my chest…..daddy had him today and he didnt have an afternoon nap so he’s conked out now on my chest bless him!

Read lots of inspiring and interesting posts now that ive had a minute to catch up!

Condolences for your loss and sorry to hear of injuries suffered by you lovely bunch.

Happy independence day to those celebrating and yes i too live in leggings….my legs have not seen trousers of any form for quite some time unless you count joggers or jarmies!?! Sadly im still in maternity clothes but hopefully by the end of this challenge i will be able to fit into something non maternity!!!! 😀

Check in soon, here’s hoping my will power lasts….my oh is currently sitting beside me eating sausage and chips and im resisting!!! 😰😰😰

    Day 4 – USA – NFD

Did a Firecracker 5k this morning. Felt great to get some exercise in but boy was it HOT! Running in Florida is tough in the summertime. Cook out tonight, then FD tomorrow. I’m already worrying about it. I know it will get easier, but it still seems very hard to me.

HappyMargo- I see that you are a runner, too. Do you run on FDs? I’m trying to figure out the best timing for FDs and runs. Thx.

Hi just thought I would do a quick catch up while I wait for the rain to ease a little before I go for my run. Lisahawk I run on my fast days but I am only getting back into it again having stopped for a while. I feel no ill effects at all and quite enjoy the lightness I feel.

Oh dear ABC1 you do have a lot on your plate at the moment and I don’t mean food! For you even looking up planks on YouTube is good – a mini step in the right direction lol. Hope it all works out for you. x

JaynayB69 – welcome just jump in where we are, the day corresponds with the date ie July 4th day 4 etc – start your post with day you are on and where you are from (UK).

I’ll get some single cream on the way home JFitzy and give it a go.

Right rain has actually eased so off to get changed

UK day 4 NFD for me, fasting tomorrow and looking forward to imposing some self-discipline, I have been well off track during the hiatus. Too many social events, delicious food and chilled prosecco! Really enjoying catching up on posts as usual, ABC1 my heart goes out to you in particular with so much uncertainty. I’m also mourning the BREXIT outcome from the other end of the entente in the UK. I was planning to spend some proper time in France when I retire, a couple of years at least, and had just managed to persuade my husband that it would be a good idea. How much worse for those who already have plans and lives in place. I work with people from all across mainland Europe who are feeling unwanted and fragile. Sorry everyone, rant over. ABC1 good luck with the interview process and the medical tests.

    USA – Day 4
Enjoying the beach today (after another morning paddle boarding).
Happy 4th July American friends. I’m planning my first fast day tomorrow- gonna try some zucchini pasta 😇

    BRAZIL DAY 4 CHALLENGE

Was happy with the weight Friday, but this weekend was exaggerated, today I’m afraid of scales, fast and HIT today, I think I will repeat fasting tomorrow too.

    Hug to everyone

USA Day 4, NFD. Watching TDEE. 😀

    Day 4 Minnesota, USA NFD

ABC1: I hope you have good luck with all of your plans and health issues. Be good to yourself!

Happy and safe 4th of July to my fellow Americans! Good FDs and NFDs to everyone!

Pacific NW USA: Day 4 NFD

Today, I guess you could say we Americans are celebrating a sort of Brexit of our own that occurred many years ago, under different circumstances and processes. My, how the world turns.

Bulletproof coffee has many iterations but the term was first coined by a fellow who now has a commercial web site but from which sprang all the various recipes and personal preferences. I first heard about it from an extended family member who as a professional athlete swore by the purity of the original concept of mold free, single origin ground coffee beans, grass fed cow’s butter (Irish preferred) and XCT refined coconut oil blended into a light brown concoction. Here’s a recipe from the commercial web site: https://www.bulletproofexec.com/bulletproof-coffee-recipe/ He also has explained in other posts on his web site why his recipe is so good for the brain and why milk or cream is not preferable. Not that I’m supporting all his claims but here’s another of his explanations https://www.bulletproofexec.com/how-to-make-butter-coffee-bulletproof/ I also caution that Dr. M in a broadcast I watched said that the evidence is still lacking on the coconut oil claims.

ABC1 – I send you thoughts of peace and pride, for the accomplishments you’ve already achieved, for the strength that has carried you this far and for the ability you have to manage life’s hurdles. Take care of you first and 5:2 will always be there for you when it fits with your priorities. I hope we have a forum to exchange messages in August so we can wish you good results with the medical tests. Your home sounds like a lovely vacation spot. What part of France?

Lisahawk – I don’t know how you manage the heat and humidity but then you throw in running??!! Good on you!

California, USA day 4. Today is a FD. It is also a work day. I am sitting amongst cake, pies, and all sorts of goodies. The break room on a holiday can be tough. Fortunately my work assignment will not allow me to revisit this room until I am off duty. I can stay strong. Reading the posts and writing this post really helped to stay away from the goodies. Now to get out of here and take a walk. Have a happy and safe 4th of July to those who are celebrating today.

    Day 4 France
Fast day. 489 calories including a natural full fat yoghurt, raspberries and 2 cups of tea which I’ve yet to enjoy.

My hip joints are hurting from shifting a tonne of stone yesterday so haven’t done much physical today. I made a slow cooker full of healthy turkey curry which will be ideal for fast days.

My Mum arrives tomorrow for a week so it might be more difficult to manage fast days but I’m going to try my best.

    Ontario
On day 1 (July 1st) before I left for the beach I weighed 178 pounds and seem to be stuck in the low to high 70’s for quite some time. Has been incredibly difficult but definitely intend to drop to the 160’s before August 1st.
Today is fast day and plan to fast at least 1 more, maybe 2 (Wednesday and possibly Friday) with all other days following 16:8 and eating LCHF.
Did my morning 3KM walk, and keep going out for short walks for breaks today. Hard to be back to work!
More important to me than the weight loss will be dropping my blood sugar counts. Have dropped them already to 6.4 but want to go below 5.9.
This seems to be the key to success for me – fasting in some form all week long. With the longest (2) being 24 hours eating under 500 calories those 2 FD’s. I don’t count calories eating LCHF just know what to eat and what to avoid. Fasting helps determine if I am really hungry or just want to eat out of boredom/stress. Lots of water, Perrier, and coffee today. Not so hard…

    Thanks for letting me join.
    Nottingham – UK day 4

    My stats
    Height – 5ft 2″
    Weight – 241lbs
    TDEE – 2018
    Waist – 49.5″
    Hips – 55″
    Bust – 48″
    Neck – 15″

As you can see I have a lot to lose. Today is. FD, I managed up until 2pm when I had some strawberries and celery, then I had my tea at 5.30pm. Feeling a tad hungry now, I may go to bed early.

I need to do this, the last year I have been undergoing treatment for breast cancer, 2 ops, 6 sessions of chemo and 15 of radiotherapy, it takes its toll on your body, so I now need to get fitter and thinner for my health.

    Ontario
I forgot to say that this morning I also weighed 178, the same as Friday July 1st.
My biggest weight was 218 and that was 1-1/2 yrs ago. Generally I do weigh myself each morning. I have used tape measure but generally just measure waste (38 inches) and bust (41 inches).
Not even my husband nor my 2 sons know my weight. I only ever say how much I have lost to them.
So not so easy to have it keyed and posted on a forum. But I will persevere.
Perhaps I will count the LCHF meals I eat on NFD’s. I typically just eat when hungry, trying to postpone as long as possible and on FD eat one meal early evening. I also feel hungrier if I eat at lunch, and I very seldom eat before 11:30 a.m. anyway.
My goal weight is likely 150, but am happy with 5 pound increments.

Day 4. Wisconsin, USA. NFD. Still a holiday, and trying to do the beat I can, within reason. Getting plenty of exercise! Looking forward to reading everyone’s posts tomorrow.

Day 4 Cornwall UK. A fast day today and all has gone remarkably well despite an awful night with little sleep. Grandson still unwell, but hope tonight will be better poor little mite. Everyone was eating up/ grazing on the leftover party food all around me today, but I resisted temptation and the great thing is it wont be there tomorrow to temp me!!
I had an hours pilates class this morning, not been able to get plank done today.
ABC my thoughts are with you in this time of uncertainty, it’s a worrying time. Sending you positive thoughts for your health results. Big hugs.

All best of luck to everyone, stay strong. Onwards and DOWN!!

ABC1 you are going through such a hard time. Know we are all with you! I hope the medical appointment goes okay and perhaps the UK will see how stupid the Brexit decision was and get it reviewed. All over the world right-wing, anti-immigration extremists are seriously influencing politics. They use social media to great effect. It is scary. Xxxx

Australia Day 5 NFD – well. Had my first fast day this challenge yesterday and it went really well. I was a little worried that after two weeks of over-eating I would struggle with the fast day but stuck to only black coffee and black tea and didn’t ever feel particularly hungry. I got two walks in but no other exercise. I always intend to do my strength exercises and stretches at night but it is dark and cold when I get home and I lose all motivation. Perhaps when I get more weight off getting down on the floor won’t seem such a big issue. Happy day all.

Jayneyb69 – HUGE congratulations on completing the cancer treatments. They are so hard on the body. My friend said one of the unexpected outcomes of breast cancer was weight gain as everyone kept giving her chocolates when they visited! 🙂 xxx

    Northern Spain day 4.
Happy Independence Day to all of our US dieters.I bet today is a NFD for lots of you!!!!

Walked home after work today -7km and went to a pilates class this evening. I think I’ll cancel tomorrow!! Even though the class was brilliant I noticed howhen stiff and infledible I’ve become over time. The walk helped me to relax as I walked the stress out of myself after work, it was therapeutic.I arrived home calm and at peace with the world.

Congratulations Jayneb69 on battling cancer. It can’t have been easy but well done and good luck with everything in the future. We’ll all be rooting for you.

Today was a fast day and I just had lunch. Salad with a homemade beefburger. That was that. Drank lots of water and got on with it.
Looking forward to a boiled egg tomorrow morning
    Cheers

    U.K. Day 4 NFD
This was disaster day for me. Really messed up big time. What with ferry and drive, it was 12 hours to get home. When we stopped after 3 hours, and OH said would I like a chicken wrap I just said yes and it went downhill from there! It must have spiked my blood sugar because all I could think about was doughnuts.
Anyway, suffice to say it WILL be a FD tomorrow. Love to all, boohoo X

lisahawk– yes, I do run on Fast Days.

At first I was worried I’d get even hungrier, but I tried it a few times & I don’t notice any difference. Just feels like a Fast Day!

I like the idea of having no food in my system, so my body relies on my fat stores for fuel. I’ve had even better luck with long-ish distance biking on Fast Days. Really torching calories & fat cells.

The only exercise that really makes me want to eat is weight training at the gym. I’ll usually do that right before my 500 calorie dinner. It makes me even more careful to re-fuel with protein & veggies, keeping it healthy to rebuild my muscles!

    Good Luck!!

    Oh & Lisahawk,
I’m now in Colorado, but lived in Florida for 12 years before. I remember running in that heat & humidity… takes it out of you!

Make sure on Fast Days, if you run outdoors, drink extra fluids & take in some salt too. Miso soup (comes in little 35 calorie packets) is a great way to replenish electrolytes (with out all that sugar Gatorade or Powerade dumps into your body!)

    Day 4 (again)– Colorado, USA

dalhiafan– my 5:2 plan went completely off the rails during our hiatus too. I’m just glad my weight didn’t fully rebound! We’ll all get back into this together!

ABC1– ((Hugs)) for all you have going on! Come here to rant all you need to. Best of luck on your medical tests & job interview.
    —–

Got my Run in this morning before too hot outside. Then did my planks. And also completed my Upper Body weight training.

Later, I hopped on my bicycle to ride to the grocery store. Got there, locked up my bike & realized I’d left my wallet at home in another backpack. Had to make a repeat round-trip back home & to grocery store again. Ugh!

I’d say I got my exercise in today, for sure! 🙂

    Australia, day 5, NFD

    US Day 4- NFD

Was going to do a fast day today, but we decided with all the leftover food it would be waste to not eat it. Still feel like I did pretty good though. Even after pigging out yesterday I managed to not gain any weight so don’t mind reducing fast days from 3 to 2 this week!

Sunshine Coast Aus Day 5: ABC1, thinking of you and sending best wishes for good health and conducting your new business.
Jayneyb69, we are the same weight (109.4kgs). This way works. I was 123.9 (273lbs) 10 weeks ago. I can’t believe how well it works. Your body has been through so much. Good luck with your FDs. You are not alone in this.
Did 2 planks yesterday, one 30 seconds and second one 10 seconds. So weak! Walked by the ocean. It was really beautiful. It’s raining now and I’m reading all the entries on the thread. Will go for a walk when the rain stops. Being tested for whooping cough right now so have to stay away from others.

    Day 4 USA (again)

HappyMargo and Coda: thanks for the input. I will run tomorrow (FD) and see how it goes. I’m running on the beach with a group, so should be fun. I’ll drink lots of water all day. Thanks for all the great advice!

I ate too much today, but tomorrow’s FD, so it’s ok. Hopefully I didn’t do too much damage.

    Day 4, Québec

Fd became a semi FD towards the end of the afternoon. I was out shopping when a chocolate bar jumped right into my mouth and then another one did the same thing ! Gosh ! It was 4:30 pm and I hadn’t eaten all day. Bad planning and not enough to drink made me stumble. I should know better. I should have come back home but I wanted to finish everything on my To Do list before leaving for the funerals.

ABC1 my heart is with you. You are living so much stress. If only we could all share a small part of your pressure. I hope that everything goes just fine for you as soon as possible. Hug from Canada x

Ireland day 4 nfd….still getting used to the new regime while adjusting to the change in time zone on vacation…not doing too bad considering….

    Croatia, day 5, NFD
    Weight – 83.7 Kg

    Day4 NFD Wisconsin
Trying to kick a cold and slept for 2 hours this afternoon. I had chicken fajitas for supper and I really think I might be feeling better after 9 days of this. More family time today and as I served lunch I realized I wasn’t really hungry so I opted for a couple grapes and was content. Mindshift happening as I listen to my body rather than following the “rules” about keeping my metabolism going by eating very 3-4 hours.

Aussie day 5 Nfd today .
