  • Is it Day 11? Gloucestershire UK: Completed my 36-hour water-only fast successfully. Non-fast day today. Lovely breakfast of porridge this morning and a second breakfast (sandwich etc) when sorting the mail at work before going out on the round.
    How did you do Fuvvie?
    Coda: ready for tomorrow?

Day 11: Cotswolds UK: I must have pressed the wrong button as my post didn’t submit….me and technology!
Anyway, try again….completed a successful 36-hour water-only fast yesterday. Lovely porridge for breakfast before work. I always have a second breakfast of a sandwich (etc) while sorting up the mail before going out on my deliveries.
    Fuvvie: You did it, right?
Coda: You are joining me tomorrow on another 36-hour?

    Day 11 – USA – FD

I am finally finding fast days easier. I wondered if it would ever happen. I’m hungry, but not nearly as bad as when I started. I have a long day today and I am still thinking of trying liquid only. NorthernDawn- how did yours go? It was your first liquid only day, too, right? I am also worried about sleeping. I had problems sleeping when I first started this, but it went away. I started eating my 500 calories as close to bedtime as I could. I guess I’ll never know unless I try!

HollyLJ – I’m with you, I’m not ready to give up carbs. We can still make this WOL work for us. That’s what’s so great about it. We have to do it our way. I’m sure we are both eating less carbs than before.

    Have a great day!

    Day 11 Minnesota, USA NFD

My first 36 hour clear liquids fast went really well! I still haven’t broken it, so will end up at about 40 hours total fast. I’m not hungry at all. I almost always do 16:8, by eating between 11:00 am and 7 pm. It just helps me keep calories and cravings to a minimum and has relieved my heartburn. I never lost weight doing 16:8 alone. But it makes 5:2 easier for me since I’m use to fasting for at least 16 hours.

ETJ and HannahWatto, I slept great! I am truly surprised. I still woke once or twice and even felt some hunger, but got right back to sleep. For that reason alone, I will probably try another liquid only fast next week. I think I’ll stick to no broths or soups, just coffee, water, teas, because unlike other people, broths and soups actually stimulate my appetite.

Lisahawk, I think it’s worth a shot to try it. Worse case scenario is you will end up eating your usual FD meal, right? I only had about a two hour window of being quite hungry, my usual suppertime, but plenty of tea and water got me through.

HannahWatto, I eat low carb, moderate protein, high fat. If I broke my fast with grains, breads, or had sauces or gravies, etc., I would eat all day long!

The problem with eating low carb and also low fat is that you then have to eat high protein, which can also spike blood sugar, insulin, and also Insulin-like growth factor-1, which is associated with tumor formation, according to Dr. Valter Longo and Dr. Fung.

Of course, the problem with fats isn’t that they are unhealthy, as we’ve been wrongly taught (trans-fats and too many vegetable oils are bad, though). The problem is that they have more than twice the calories per gram than carbs and protein, so you have to be aware of calorie count. But they make me feel full and, with protein, they keep me satiated and free from bingeing.

I still have plenty of carbs but (theoretically) only from vegetables, dairy, nuts, some fruits and legumes. That is, until I have a treat day! 🍷πŸͺ🍦 And I do that on vacations, holidays, special occasions, and Saturdays. Because, I still love my carbs and won’t give them up entirely. 😊

ETJ, congrats on b2b water fasts. I think that is amazing will power and commitment!

    Have a great day, everybody!

NorthernDawn, I see you are in the 36-hour club. Good for you!

UK Day 11 – FD has gone really well. I’m completely won over with saving my cals until my evening meal…not sure I could quite go for a full fast, though, yet. Today I used some of last week’s Skiiper soup (re-named as chorizo in our house, so we know what to expect!) and combined it with a few of the meatballs I’d made for everyone else, and some carrots for a dash of colour…absolutely delicious. The mushed up beans in the soup make it really satisfying, and the chorizo and meatballs make it hugely flavoursome. Now I’m going to distract myself with the Olympics and hit the hay early. I’d rather get up at dawn to finish my work and not risk my FD by staying up late. You have to think quite tactically doing this, don’t you?

Still day 11 and counting down.

Yes Ciren2 I ate my last meal at lunch time and now begins liquid only until Saturday. I have my stay strong bracelet on and bone broth made. We can do it!

    Day 11 Sussex, UK
Fast day. Not toooo difficult. Don’t know why. Will weigh in on Saturday.

Australia Day 10 NFD weighed in and have not lost anything. Really struggling to control my comfort eating and drinking.

Dorset UK Day 11 (I think)

Nope didnt achieve TDEE, but I found the scales at my mums!

So I have a baseline for the next few days, so hopefully I will see a downwards move or at least I resolve to stay the same by the time I leave on Sunday morning! Its flippin hard when you are away from home seeing family and friends you havent seen for ages and wont see them again for ages!

    Kay

    Ireland day 11 nfd

All good…. heading into 3rd fast day tomorrow hoping for a loss on Saturday

    Day 11 USA (Illinois)

NFD for me. Tomorrow is a travel day, flying to see daughter and GD’s in Utah for a week then on to San Diego for the next weekend. I do get to a gym at our daughter’s that has a scale, so I hope that will help keep me on track.

Coda – I will try to post tomorrow, but I am going to do a FD Friday Day 10. I have to be on the move at 5:30 a.m. here.

Northern Dawn – interesting discussion on fats, carbs, proteins, etc. I can go low carb if I have fats (I am a mayonnaise addict, oh and butter). I did not know that eating high proteins has side effects. Interesting.

NZ Day 10 Friday – no change 72.6
Fell off the wagon yesterday so alternate FDs not working this week. Have another FD scheduled for the weekend

Thanks for the welcome to the 36 hour liquid fast club, Ciren2, and good luck to you and Coda today/tomorrow/Saturday! I’m really glad I finally worked up the courage to try it.

SongBirdMe, I think if you google Dr. Valter Longo you will find some articles about his research on too much protein. Dr. Mosely talks about his research sometimes, but I can’t remember specific videos.
Also, you and I have got some very similar cravings: cheese popcorn, mayonaise, butter, etc. A local mom and pop’s ice cream parlor that is way too close to me, also makes a signature bacon and cheddar flavored popcorn. It is addictive! It has been my downfall three times this summer. But I forgive myself. ☺️ Have fun with your family, and eat healthy when you can!

    Day 11, QuΓ©bec

Arrived home yesterday and was so tired I slept 14 hours last night ! I guesse I needed it !

I am very proud to say that I came back from vacation just a bit lighter that before I left ! What a joy when I saw that this morning on teh scale. Did the happy dance lol.

I must say that I was extremely carefull on the 2last days of my vacations. Don’t really know how I did it, but I did.

So yesterday was a FD and today also ( didn’t add the calories yet but I’m quite sure I didn’t go over 500 ca ).

I wish you all a great time.

En route towards a 2 pounds lost in this challenge. We can do it !

US SE Day 11 FD. Back to back FD’s today and tomorrow. For some reason I felt hungrier today than I normally do on a fast day but I persevered and got through it so all is good. Hoping for a drop on Saturday. Goodnight all!

Day 10 Sunshine Coast Aus: no need to be sorry HollyLJ. I’m just a jealous Pratt who would like to have a wider range of food choices. 106.6 kgs this morning after NFD which is very promising for tomorrow after my 36 hour liquid fast today. It’s not easy making a toasted cheese, salami and tomato sandwich for MIL and sitting down to a coffee. Also had a Vienna coffee at the shops this morning whilst she had chocolate mud cake and cappuccino. So glad I have found Vienna coffees. My big treat! Now I’m going to get very serious about this jigsaw puzzle which is 5/8 done. Can’t eat and handle jigsaw puzzle pieces. Went for a 4 km walk with my friend this morning while MIL had her physio appointment. So feel ok about a slack period.
This site continues to inspire me enormously. 4 months in in the past has been the point where I’ve lost interest, but reading all the entries here makes me want to keep trying. Thank you all. And I just love reading everyone’s travel posts. So many people on the move. I love chorizo too Minols, but it’s a bit of a red light food. But maybe not with LCHF? Might look into that. How are you tracking Rocy65?

    Australia – Day 10

A fasting day today. Last night we got hamburgers for dinner and I could only eat half the hamburger and a small handful of chips and I was stuffed! I said to hubby that we will share a hamburger next time and he can have something extra. Not that it happens very often.
Have a good day all πŸ™‚

    US Day 11- FD

FD went really well, planning another tomorrow! Keep pushing!

    Croatia, Day 10, FD
    Weight: 79 Kg

California, USA Day 11. FD today. Going well. OH wants Chinese food for dinner, trying to stay strong.

    Italy Day 10 – NFD

Did it! 36 hour liquid only Fast and i feel great. I think i could keep going, but don’t want to over do it on the first one. My Fast days will definitely all be like this it is so much easier and feels so empowering. It is well worth a try for anyone considering it, if it all goes wrong eat but not over 500 cals its still a good FD! Win, won in my book!
ETJ how did you feel after back to back fasting? Did you do 60 Hours liquid only?

I would love to jump on the scales but i won’t. I’ll do another on Monday and see what the scales say on my usual weigh in on Tuesday…fingers crossed

UK day 10 – really chuffed with yesterday’s FD. Don’t feel the desperate need to have breakfast yet, today, so now I’ve got some work done, I’m going to head out into the breezy morning with the dogs.
Can I ask re the 36 hour liquid fasts…does this mean no food until the evening of a second day? And if I’ve got that right, do you break your fast in any particular way? Sorry if this has all been explained elsewhere – I’ve not had time to catch up on all the posts I missed while away.

Holly LJ – I had my last meal at around 8pm and didn’t eat until lunch time yesterday. So it was around 64 hours water fasting. The first day I woke up hungry, which really wasn’t a good sign, lol and struggled as some days I do and then the day after was pretty good. I woke up on my eating day and didn’t eat until lunch because we had a delivery first thing and then had an electrician out and was so busy that I got to 11 O’clock and just thought I’ll wait until lunch. I am planning on doing another one next week as I have my son’s birthday which will go over 2 days… so I’ll need to eat two days in a row. Oh the luxury, haha. And then hopefully I won’t need to do one for a long time. I do it if I need to realign my days. Instead of eating 2 days in a row, I’ll do 2 fast days in a row and then go back to alternate fasting. It has worked well. Hubby thinks I am crazy!

Minols – No, usually those that water fast finish eating at say 8pm, go all day the follow and break the fast at breakfast the day after – so 36 hours later or more. I just drink water, diet cordial, or hot cups of tea.

    Los Angeles Day 11 (?)
It was a FD for me. Too busy to catch up on posts or write much more than a check-in. Hope all is going well for everyone, and that things turn around quickly for you if they’re not.

    Uk Friday 12 day 10

Minols I have my lunch on Thursday finished by 2pm I break my fast on Saturday morning about 9am. This equates to about 43 hours but am sleeping during the last 8 hours of it at least. As Holylj has said it’s very empowering. What is the worst that can happen – you break it, it turns into an ordinary fast day so no big deal.
It’s strange as Holylj says I have found too I am not really hungry and have to make an effort to break my fast but feel I could go longer. It’s riding those ‘whinnie the pooh’ moments but you have those in any normal fast day.

I can’t believe how strong i felt. I did 14,000 steps and really felt that food had no power over me. I’m going for a walk into town (about 3,5km) to a really nice bar to break my Fast in style, then veggie e wrap for lunch and fish for dinner with a glass of wine. I really feel i deserve it and will savour every mouthful. Thank you all for being so inspiring, is amazing how supportive complete strangers writing messages to each other can be. There is nothing ‘virtual’ about this experience for me ,it is very REAL.

    Well done HollyLJ. Go team.πŸΎπŸŽ‰πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ·

Days 11 & 10: can’t believe it but looking for my last posting I think I missed a day – it’s all fun times for us right now but quite a whirlwind of people we haven’t seen in forever plus all the driving from one place to another.

Modified NFD today. Tomorrow the same, fast till dinner then a meal that’s probably over 1500 but it is special times. Thanks for the dining out tips Anna. Tonight was a big restaurant meal but it was served family style, 3 starters, 2 entrees, 2 sides and dessert. I focused on the delicious salad and then salmon (again, I’m turning into a fish).

ETJ – great on the b2b success. The reason I ever tried it in the first place was reaching 36 hours and then not feeling like eating so I just kept it going for a 2nd day.

    Good decisions and determination everyone!.

    Hi again

Songbird – that is you checked in

Hannahwatto – stay strong this may just be your pattern – like mine. Stay the same fro a few weeks and then drop. Just don’t think about it just keep doing it and you will get there – although it is frustrating just ride the wave and you will be soooo glad you did. x

    Dorset UK Friday Day 10

Weight up 0.5lbs from yesterday morning…oops!

Out tonight, so no diet again. However, Ive had late breakfast and wont eat until this evening.

    πŸ™‚

    Day 10 Sussex, U.K.
NFD for me. Busy weekend and entertaining coming up so I am trying to get ahead and plan, plan, plan.
Reading everyone else’s posts helps a lot.

U.K. Day 10 quick check in will have to catch up posts later, FD yesterday went well aiming for mindful weekend

Surrey UK day 10….wow, only 10 days to go! I am definitely in for a fast day today, and will weigh tomorrow morning. Good luck, everyone!

B2TF – don’t worry I had you checked in on day 11 and as you are USA assume you are only approaching Friday 12th August (day 10) now? It is a little confusing I know.

I make it we have 30 people still hanging in there which includes Jaynay and her dodgy wifi – a few I knew about that would not be joining in on this bonus challenge a few others may have jumped ship and others have disappeared πŸ™

So once again for the remaining folks – well done on your commitment – be very proud of yourselves. I hope the resolve you have shown over these last few weeks means you believe much more in yourselves and what you can achieve but off course keep going to the end don’t slacken off now.

    Gozo, Malta

Fd for me today and hubby joining me together with one daughter and the other daughter doing half day fd. All is well and I’ve already planned meal for this evening, baked fish and salad.

Yesterday I had a couple of prickly pears for dessert although I would have loved an ice cream which I have in the freezer but stayed strong and hopefully within my TDEE although can’t calculate the local ftira (encased like a calzone pizza) but I spread my usual portion for two meals instead of one meal. So happy I restrained myself.

After today I’m having a nfd weekend.

How I admire you Coda, ETJ and back2thefuture for your liquids only fasts! Stay strong 5 pounders! I’m not ready for them yet. I love reading everyone’s posts and admire all you others who do the liquids only fasts.

Today I baby set Benjamin my six month grandson, my other daughter was off and came to see me with her two granddaughters and ofcourse my other daughter is still recuperating from her Caesarian operation with her fifteen day old son in our home. Her son is doing well and has gained weight.

Have a great day everyone. Stay strong and you can do it!

Hello everyone! – Thanks for the concern of my friends fast, I’m improving a lot, have not done fast these days but I am looking after the excesses, made many points in my head, the doctor prescribed me antibiotics and recommended to take without fail for 7 days, I do not bought … believing that my body would have enough immunity, because after I started fasting I feel I am stronger and resistant, do not make more use of any medication.

There are 12 days of my accident, my head completely healed, by coincidence on Dr. Jason Fung blog post this week he speaks of antibiotics, we should use them only in extreme necessity, it is worth reading.

    https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/antibiotics-less-is-more/

    A hug!

    Day10 FD OHare airport

Got to site on my phone, dont want to pay for wifi for my ipad. Might try a 36 hour liquid only tbat EJT described. It is much cheaper to fast with travel food so extenive πŸ˜€

US, Day 10, NFD. I fasted well until dinner. Today is Son #2’s birthday and we had planned a celebratory dinner out tonight. Son #1 arrived from out of town early so we moved it to last night. No 1/4 TDEE for me! Wine! Pasta! Bread! Oh my stars!

Weight still in 120.5 range. I am letting down my 2 lb team. Tomorrow is a travel day and I will fast on the road, instead of eating crappy rest stop food.

Day 10: Fast-day. Cotswolds UK: Going for the 36-hours on water only.
Minois: I ate last at about 5pm yesterday and will not eat again until breakfast tomorrow. That will be at least 36 hours.
ETJ: I’m so impressed with your 64 hours….but I’m not competing with that, for sure. I do NOT have any trouble breaking my fast after “only” 36 hours!
HollyLJ: Well done….another one for the 36-hour club.
Coda: Are you staying strong today…..36-hours?….let’s DO IT!
    Good luck all today’s fasters.

Day 10 Minnesota, US FD (4:3 this week)
Scale was great this morning even after yesterday’s NFD, but I will weigh tomorrow for the official weekly tally. I may try another liquid only FD today, but maybe will have my usual FD supper at 5pm. Will play it by ear
    .
Congrats Holly, it is an eyeopening experience to complete a 36 hour liquid fast, isn’t it? It does feel great! It took me 4 months to try it. I think sooner or later most here will try it and then they will have another achievement and milestone under their belts. It becomes another tool we can feel comfortable using when we want to or need to.

B2tF, I hope you are enjoying yourself! I have no doubt that you are eating as mindfully as possible under the circumstances. I’m sure you will do great throughout the celebrations! How did the replacement shopping go?

It’s good to hear from you ANAIDE, and I’m glad you are healing well. Thanks for the link to Dr. Fung. I will read that with interest.

HannahWatto, hang in there! I went through a similar experience from mid June to Mid July. Sometimes I almost felt rebellious to fasting, and felt frustrated and deprived. But then I just went with the rhythm of it and ate to my TDEE on NFDs, and did the FDs as best I could, not always perfectly, and it started feeling easier again and I started losing. As Coda says, just keep doing it and you will find your groove, and the weight will come off again.

K-Lo, your birthday celebrations sound good to me! Have fun! I’ll raise a toast to your family tomorrow night when I open my bottle of fermented grape juice! 🍷😊

NorrieB, Patti67, LisaHawk, Asweet, we can all make 3 lbs by the 22nd!

    Good luck, everyone!

Day 10: Pacific NW USA (traveling), modifing my FD

Thanks for keeping my days straight, Coda. It was day 11 for me late last night when I could barely keep my eyes open much less count backwards!

Northern – thanks for your care in asking! I AM having fun, even with burning the ol’ candle at both ends. We’re having a modern family reunion including all the ex’es. My step son was close to my ex and so has even invited him to the wedding – which makes for a complete family group with all attachments! It feels like we’ve brought the whole tribe together! And yes, I had some magic in success replacing my lost dress for tomorrow, my outfit for tonight and this morning hopefully will go to the shoe store where they’ve ordered my shoes for tonight and tomorrow – almost down to the wire! (Refunds should be forth coming for lost packages after many emails and phone calls in the middle between the shippers, UPS and FedEx.)

Normally I would have a complete 36 hour liquid only FD today but instead will plan to have liquids only during the day, do the rehearsal thing and have the big group dinner tonight at a Thai restaurant. (Very careful eating because I weigh in tomorrow to see how close I’ve gotten to the goal I set for myself before the wedding!) Tomorrow I will again fast during the day and end with the wedding reception.

I feel totally happy with the weight I’ve been able to lose in just over 3 months with 5:2 and I can’t wait to see what I can accomplish in the next 3 months. I’m moving better, I have fewer aches and pains, I’m playing around with some new fashions, and I plan to have fun on the dance floor tomorrow! I know I feel lucky to be on this journey with all of you and give you credit for all that we’ve accomplished together!

    Day 10 – USA – NFD

I decided to eat the soup I had prepared in advance on my FD yesterday when I got home at 8:30pm. I probably could have made it a liquid only FD, but that soup was in the fridge calling my name. So I went about 25 hours on liquids, then had about 400 calories. I felt good about it. The time will come when I’ll join you liquid only 36 hour peeps, but for now, I’m good with this.

I’ll weigh in the morning before my run. I hope to see a good number!

    Everyone is doing great!!

Ciren2 yes still staying strong. I really do like this way of fasting.

Anaide glad you are feeling better – very interesting article. I always felt bad for not completing a course of antibiotics as I generally forgot once I felt well. Turns out it was right thing to do.

Days 11 and 10. Devon UK. Sorry I couldn’t post yesterday, a lovely day out with the family. NFD but Knowing we were going out for a meal in the evening I didn’t have breakfast, a small geek salad at lunch. A great steak in the evening and wine! NFD today again no breakfast a hard boiled egg and some saladfor lunch and a low cal curry for supper. But I did have an ice cream and a small slice of cheese cake. I counted it up and under 1300 cals, so happy with that! planning a fast day tomorrow, we are driving home leaving in the evening. I’m aiming for b2b fast days as I have busy social week, which will be an eating challenge!!
Well done on 36 hr fluids fast Holly and everyone else!!
Fuvvie I also have 4 girls and youngest boy!! 7 grandchildren. You’re doing well stay strong, we can do this!
I will weigh on Sunday morning and really hopeful that I’ve done enough to see a loss!
This buddy challange is sure keeping me focused – really want stay strong for my 6lb buddies!! Good luck all!!

    Ireland day 10 fd

Hoping for a loss tomorrow as doing 3 fd’s this week…only 10 days left and really don’t want to let my 4lb buddies down…only thing is had I not been doing this challenge I would be up a lot more than 9lbs from my start weight instead of being down….roll on tomorrow for my weigh in …

US SE Day 10 FD. Just like Coolcat, I’m on my 3rd fast day this week. Hoping for a loss tomorrow. Heading to my two sister in law’s who live up at Lake Wylie for the weekend. Looking forward to it. Good luck all and have a great weekend!

Sunshine Coast Aus Day 9: big drum roll……….104.8 kgs. I don’t believe it. I skipped 105 altogether πŸ˜€πŸ˜‚ This was my next mini goal on my way to 99.9 and so on till 70 kgs. I put it down to the challenge and have to thank Coda, my 6 pounders and everyone else both on this thread and others that I love to meet up on. I know the scales will go up again today as they always do after fasting, and I am still in my 36 hour plus liquid fast which is proving ultra successful. It was so hard last night when the family were eating the roast pork I had bought forgetting I would be fasting. What a dingaling. The smell of it cooking would have driven me nuts if I hadn’t told myself that my olfactory system was helping me enjoy the feast whilst enjoying my freedom from being obliged to eat. My daughter put some of the crackling aside for me for when I break my fast. Apologies to all the vegetarians/vegans but I have always been a carnivore.
Well done Ciren2 and ETJ, and HollyLJ. Good to hear from you Rocy65. You are all so inspiring and sound like a lot of fun.

I just love crackling hmmm. You did exceptionally well Fuvvie to stick to your plan but you got your reward. Well done!

The buddies seem to be working well. Maybe something we can continue into next challenges.

I am reading the obesity code – the body ain’t have complicated!

I am also at this moment salivating over what I plan for breakfast and unless I sleep walk and raid the fridge this will be another successful fast.

B2tf have a great time and to all the others with lots of family stuff going on. Enjoy with all your heart – these are the moments that will live forever.

    Nite all x
