Minnesota, USA Day 16 NFD
Checking in. Many tears today due to grandchildren leaving. Planted the rest of my containers, over 100 flowers that kids didn’t want to help with last week. They aren’t botanically inclined for some reason: they have not gotten my genes in that regard!
Still have had no time to catch up on posts. Tomorrow. Best of thoughts and wishes to everyone.
Northern Spain day 17.
Good morning everyone.
It’s another NFD today- I like to plan my weekend like that – no fasting unless I need to compensate or make up for a day where I have been exceptionally naughty. I now find that if I overdo my eating, I feel bloated. That is positive progress for me as I could eat for my country in the Food Olympics and get gold.
Hope everyone has a lovely day.
NorthernDawn, I’m sure your grandchildren had a great time with you and will cherish their memories forever. They are so lucky to have a granny who makes time for them.
Cheers
NLD day 17
Hi Anna- your day sounds like a solid plan. Would it work for me too? :> Because I have psoriasis (scalp) I quit eating grains hoping to notice a difference but sadly if anything- it’s getting worse. Shall I turn back to eating grains, bread and potatoes again?!
Thanks Coda. My TDEE is 1942 but if I opt for sedentary its 15-something. On fast days I stick to 350-400 cal. On non FD I have to remind myself to eat. A normal day would be like yoghurt for breakfast then run around doing errands/shopping/cleaning/whatever and at about five in the afternoon wondering where the day went I start cooking. It’s usually fresh veggies, small piece of meat or egg with some lentils. When I enter it all into my counter I’m sometimes surprised at how little calories. Once I’m eating okay during the day I sometimes tend to then overshoot and go for the nuts or salty sticks and have just too many… and go over TDEE. It’s a rollercoaster.
Last year the dietician told me because I was eating so little my body was holding onto whatever goes in so maybe if I just be strict and actually eat more I think I’ll start losing again. I do drink coffee (1 cup) and water the rest of the day.
Just weighed myself and lost 0.1kg after a FD yesterday with a 1 hr walk doing HIT.
Challenge 1 I lost 4 kilo so it can be done! And it will happen again. Maybe I’m just on a plateau; who knows. Anyway, I’ll continue lookingfor what works best for me. Give up is not in my dictionary.
HAve a great day all!
Day 16: Pacific NW USA, NFD of approx 1500 cal
Boy, traveling is not for the feint of heart! Seems I’m on the go dawn to dusk and I can barely keep my eyes open long enough to write this. Sort of like drinking and driving, I need a designated scribe. I’ll try to find time to catch up on everyone’s messages when I’m more coherent but did get this far ::poof:: (Dutch’s list)
Day 16 & 17 checkin! India, NFD
Sorry for not checking in yesterday.. went to my mom’s and just was so busy.. went to visit an aunt in hospital.. she’s hospitalised since a month and still the doctors don’t know how to cure her 🙁
I weighed myself yesterday after a week….. and it showed 69.8 kgs!! finally under 70! Lost 2 kgs since starting this challenge!!! I am relieved that my plateau has ended (fingers crossed).
Was able to eat mindfully at my mom’s yesterday so I am sure I didn’t go over my TDEE.. skipped breakfast today and just had lunch.. so I have been more mindful lately.. eat slowly (have to remind myself) and try to stay more active.. went for 6km cycling for first time in 10 years.
Coda – I am in for the bonus round.
Take care everyone.
Surrey UK Day 17 Didn’t have time to post yesterday, the family went to Waterperry Gardens in Oxford to spend the day at the annual Art in Action festival. It was so lovely to see many old friends…I have been going there for a very long time! We got home so late last night, all I could do was fall into bed.
Coda, I will definitely follow the bonus challenge. Meeting up with everyone here just tends to keep one on track.
When I look back at yesterday, it feels as though a lot was consumed, but I realized that was not true, because had poached egg on toast in the morning, and that was it for the rest of the day…with numerous small glasses of Pimms throughout the day. By the time 7 o clock came I was starving, and bought a nice fresh chicken curry. I have no idea what the Pimms has done to the weight, but so be it. Today is a fast day, and I will weigh in tomorrow. Since I started this on the 27th May, I have lost 5.5 kg.
Don’t want to think about food today, but I do want to make a few more soups. Good luck to all of us!
UK day 17 NFD I know I’ve overdone it a bit this weekend, but not getting on scales will fast tomorrow and if it feels good maybe an extra FD Tuesday, then hopefully I’ll be back to where I was last week . I don’t mind a slight fluctuation as I’m in this for the long haul, I’m giving myself 3 months to lose a stone which will be my goal weight
Day 17– Colorado, USA
NFD for Saturday & Sunday, like to keep the weekends as more “enjoyable food” days with less pressure. Then buckle down Monday thru Friday. Seems to be working. My scales are showing lower numbers!
Also, sticking to my Planking. Still hit the kitchen floor every time I go to re-heat my coffee in the microwave. Makes good use of that bit of time. And I know I”m making progress with my abs!
(Now to go back & read all the posts I’ve missed. Loads of catching up to do!)
Enjoy your Sunday, fellow 5:2ers!
Gozo, Malta
Dutch I don’t know anything about your condition. But I do include potatoes and grains in my diet but only occasionally bread when I fancy a quarter pound burger I do myself out of minced lean meat. You seem to eat fewer calories on fd and nfd then the rest of us certainly then myself, anyway then you intend to eat then you eat and nibble on snacks. Do try for a larger meal during the period of time you are at your weakest resolve and have healthier snacks standing by to quench your nibbling tendency. You’ll get to control yourself over time Dutch just make some necessary changes and plan to eat more fulfilling meals plus extra snacks.
I do enjoy my nfd as I know I can eat more and what I want. But I still have healthy snacks standing by in case of a snack attack.
Today I had lunch with the family a three course meal plus two sparkling glasses of red wine. All the family was here except for husband of my eldest daughter who went abroad on work today.
Going out with my eldest pregnant daughter and her architect friend from New Zealand and my husband this evening.
Keep strong and positive everyone. Enjoy Sunday!
Days 16 & 17 – USA – NFD
Forgot to check in yesterday. Weighed in at 158.0 lbs.; down 1.2 from last week. I’ll take it! My 5 mile run was good yesterday. We all went to breakfast after, which was not so good. Ha! Actually, I did ok. I had no potatoes or bread, so kept my calories down.
Going to a Body Pump class now. FD tomorrow! I want to be included in the bonus round, Coda.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Day 17… UK Nottingham
Dinner party went well last night. I do think I went over my TDEE though. However, another pound down on the scales this morning, I’m expecting a gain tomorrow though, but tomorrow is a FD, so could pull it back.
A beautiful day here today, this could be our summer!! and typically OH is working so not been out to make the most of it.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend xx.
Day 17: Pacific NW USA (actually away from home at the 3rd stop over), NFD
Yesterday we attended the bridal shower for my future daughter-in-law. Ate very little but did have guava juice mimosas which, including champagne, was again a departure from my usual at-home diet. Then a longish drive to my daughter’s home, probably not enough water intake and I’m feeling a little icky this morning. My 3 oldest grandsons don’t need me to lean over and pick them up as I’ve been doing with the younger grands (my PT would be aghast). Babies are so yummy though, I can’t resist their overtures and that age passes so quickly.
Just caught up on reading the last couple of pages. Lots of us on the road right now. It is a different challenge to be away from the healthy 5:2 world that I’ve slowly been building at home. I believe I’m pretty good at keeping my self-control and focus so far and have the consistency and steady support from this forum, which travels with me, but I’m also feeling uncertain about whether I will have my same steady progress with so many little variables and schedule changes intruding. It hasn’t even been a full week yet and I will be away a month so there’s still time to add planks, squats, push-ups and get those nutrient rich foods back into my diet. I am so used to being in control and no one to think about besides OH and myself!!
Jayneyb69 – you’ve had such great success these 2 weeks I’m sure the dinner party won’t be a big deal, happy for you!
Kay65 – your shredding deserves praise and good luck with your procedure!
K-lo- so sweet to read how much you miss your hubby but how productive you’ve been in his absence!
::poof::
UK day 17…today is weigh in and I’M recording a 1lb increase despite still hoping my Mum’s scales weigh me heavier than my home ones. If I’M right hopefully O’ll have something to celebrate next week. To be honest, I snack so much at Mum’s it’s not surprising, but hopefully all the walking will lit the damage somewhat!
US SE Day 17. NFD. K-Lo… I love how much you miss your hubby ☺ My husband is in the Czech Republic and Belgium at the moment. He’s been gone a week and won’t be home till August 3rd.. so I know how you feel. Packing up to send my sister home tomorrow. Feeling a little sad today but I’m sure tomorrow will be worse.
Sunshine Coast Aus Day 18: FD today. Went up to 108.3kgs after weekend of non fasting. This doesn’t worry me at all as it is the pattern. Expect it to be lower tomorrow. I admire all the exercisers who report such a joy from exercise but I still haven’t managed to get up enough enthusiasm to join their ranks. It is what it is. Happy 5:2ing everyone.
California, USA, day 17. Today was a NFD. Stayed within my TDEE. I spent the day with my friends, went to a nice lunch at a quaint tea house then to a play. Unfortunately it was a lot of sitting today. I am looking forward to a FD work day. Monday’s are usually the busiest. I need to make up for the lazy day I enjoyed today. Time to get to bed. Good night.
End of Day 17: Pacific NW USA (traveling), NFD
Coda, do I remember that having trouble posting may be due to an over zealous filter on this web site and you should contact tech@thefastdiet.co.uk ??
Family members constantly ask if I want to eat. They’re getting a little more used to my new WOL but it is hard being in the vicinity of yummy appetizers and snacks. Meals are very doable as I just eat the veg and protein. Tonight though they served my son-in-law’s special fresh fruit salad with mint. I was delighted by a small portion but do you know, even as small as it was I think the high glycemic fruits pushed my appetite button because I’ve had the dread monkey on my back all evening telling me I MUST raid the fridge. I only succumbed to some nuts and a small square of dark chocolate but it put me that much over my 1200 cal maximum.
But I did shoot hoops with my 7 year old coach for an hour this afternoon, took an up hill 1 1/2 mile HIT walk and did my strength exercises so I was pretty active.
I found a free exercise calorie burn calculator at:
http://fatburn.com
Look on the left column menu list, choose “free tools” and then you will find “Burning calories while exercising tool”. Click on it,be nter your weight and scroll down through the many listed activities and you can see how much energy you are expending with various exercise activities.
Of course, for me, it’s much easier to lose a pound by not eating 3500 calories within the 5:2 fasting plan in a week than it is to burn via extra exercise the equivalent 3500 calories (for example, walk fast 3.5 miles per hour for 26 miles to burn a 3500 calorie pound of stored fat) but every little bit of activity adds to the total!
Fuvvie – if you don’t want to exercise or can’t 5:2 (and some of our forum members) have many success stories for people losing weight with out exercise. If you can add any extra movement to your day you will just augment your over all calorie deficit. I salute you either way!!
UK day 18 FD today and have a busy day planned with some great excercise classes booked. I feel very confident that this WOL is sustainable long term and as long as I stick to a 5:2 I will lose weight slowly and ideally like others had said reigning it in during the week and then enjoying the weekend is great for me, what I can’t do is start the weekend on Wednesday , which is what I did last week, just 10 days left so really going to try and get back on track
K Lo -Ouch that sounds painful ,must be very difficult to manage
UK day 18 – walking up the only hill of my childhood today…apropriately called Steep Hill. Have a feeling I really need to walk up it 20 times, but I’m on holiday, so once will do and get me to my place of pilgrimage…the Cathedral at the top. I love showing the boy where I grew up, and stories of Medieval Britain…not that I’m old enough for medival `Britain to have been my childhood…just grew up with a love of the history of my home! Obviously a NFD, and will include the intentional wickedness to the sweet stall on the market where I earned my Saturday pennies (paid in kind, I think!)
Scotland Day 18 FD
Having another FD so that I can save myself for my day off tomorrow when I will be having a long walk with hubby and possibly follow it up with a nice little picnic by the beach. He’s limited to what he can participate in just now and it’s kind of affecting me. Mind you he’s back on board the 5:2 wagon and I can’t tell you how relieved I am about that. He has a stone to lose and perhaps a couple of pounds more but any more than that he just doesn’t look well! Our neighbours thought he had an illness last time and were afraid to ask. The weight just fell off him and he was doing great with the exercise but he just seemed to shrink and even I was a wee bit worried! It’s 4:3 for me this week and will do a FD on Wed and Friday. We’re getting nearer to the end of this challenge and am I glad I got on board.
