  • Day 15, Quebec.

Coda, I’m in for the 2 bonusses. Thank you for the idea.

Day 15 (trying to post early noon so I don’t get too close to that big stick of Coda’s again (Ha). FD today for Nice.

I feel very humbled by world events and in comparison I will have an easy day as I’m transitioning from one kid’s family to the next and will be in transit most of the day. It’s been a great eye-opener and more proof that what I’m doing now is such an improvement over old self. When I’ve stayed with my kids’ families before I usually find myself diving into late night snacks that I brought with me or scouring their cupboards AND that’s after morning, noon and night eating and snacking like it’s a holiday. I’m happy to report that I’ve participated but kept to my no sugar (after the first day half a slice of my birthday cake made by my 3 yr old grandson), no carbs, one serving and lots of activity. I actually opened the bag of macadamia nuts I brought with me out of habit but after one I realized I wasn’t really hungry just tired! Does carrying 10 month old grandson while chasing after a 3 year old on a scooter count as temporary substitute for planks and squats?

So many feelings as I’ve caught up on your messages for the last couple of days!

ABC1- we are a community now, not bound only by 5:2 efforts but because we’ve come to know a bit about each other and I have found I truly care what happens to each and everyone! So however you need to cope and take care of yourself is what I want you to do, I just hope I see your name pop up every now and then.

Coda – I am so in for the bonus round and Phase 3 if a cheer leader steps forward! You are a mighty champion of the Furious 53 (or 50’ish)

ETJ – you made me realize how close I am to entering the only over-weight BMI. Thanks, it’s my new goal for this challenge and bonus round!

Anna6 – clothes fitting, fasts going well, all indicators of how well your new WOL is treating you!

SongBirdMe – another great article, thanks. Moral of the story: Eat only if you are really hungry, eat healthy when you do eat and by all means don’t deprive then gorge.

Slim – you’re the best ample of how 5:2 can be managed even through all the curve balls that came your way (American baseball analogy but I think it’s obvious)!

K-lo – your office event reminded me of how easy it is to fall into the hypnosis of the sugar industry. Ice cream back in some day was a rare treat and even came with energy expended just to crank and cure it in ice and salt! Not so any more and you didn’t fall into the trap! Way to go!

Dutch – thanks for the music!

Micky 42 – weight is only one variable of success on 5:2. Your are improving your health on many fronts and any weight loss is a bonus!

Going for a little fast strength planks and squats then calling an Uber! See you all tomorrow in this great meeting place!

    Day 15 Sussex, U.K. NFD
I blew it this week by going over on my nfdays. Up a pound.
Ok on we go and I would like to continue, if I may, into the next challenge.
    Good luck everyone. X

    Italy Day 15- NFD
I can’t even get shocked anymore when these things happen. I’m sick to the stomach.
Managed to stay in my TDEE without too much trouble. Feeling stronger every day. I’m up for all the challenges you can throw at us Coda, being accountable really works for me, and all this support is wonderful. Loved ones who should be supportive just seem to be trying to stuff food down my throat😦

    Gozo, Malta

Dear back2the future life is treating me well and all those who are fasting because health wise it’s very good for you even if the weight doesn’t come off that easily. Exactly what does WOL mean please?

Count me in the next challenge, bonus and phase 3.

This evening went walking to the next village where my sister in law lives (about 30 minutes walk from where I live) and when I met her she was supposed to bring me home by car but she suggested we go for a drink at a nearby beach. We went and while she ate ice cream a huge manium I drunk a bottle of sparkling water with a piece of lemon. Then came home and had baked fish with salad with my husband as I already made a pizza to my son.

Good night everyone I really enjoy reading your input here.

    AUD – NFD
Yes Coda. I am in for your challenge. I will be away skiing in early August (hence the need to drop a couple of Kg so I fit into my ski suit!) so no weigh ins but will keep on track with some fast days as I don’t want to put on. Thanks everyone for keeping me on track. I would have definitely stopped already without your support. Yes, lost 1kg since start of July (not June!) and 4cm from my waist which is great! Terrible news of attacks in Nice my thoughts are with you.
    Stay strong everyone.

    Sunshine Coast Aus Day 16:
Hi. Coda. 107.2 this morning. Definitely in for the next challenge, bonus, come what may.
Neostaford, became curious about your daily entries so backtracked through the days and then hooked right back to the start of the challenge. You are doing really well. A quiet achiever. Congratulations.
Very wet here today. Have to drive to Brisbane, 1.5 hours away, to babysit 5 of the grandies, the oldest of whom is 8 and the youngest 14 months. My twin daughters are going out with their husbands for dinner.
Happy fasting to those on their FDs and enjoy your nonFDs to the rest. 😘☺️

Australia – Day 16 – 15 days to go of challenge πŸ™‚ Over half way!

Back2thefuture – I so hope you make it under the BMI! I was ecstatic to find out that I was no longer obese! I still have a long way to go to be a healthy weight, but I just have to keep on! You sound like a wonderful grandmother by the way! Your kids are very fortunate.

Patti67 – Don’t worry about what happened last week. Just worry about what you are doing today. Just refresh and continue on a losing path!

HollyLJ – It took my husband 2 go’s at 5:2 to become supportive! My Dad is shocking with my Mum still and it has been over 2 1/2 years. As i say to my husband, it’s not affecting you me not eating, so mind your business! Although in saying that, he is wonderful now. The fast days don’t bother me though. My Mum’s whole personality apparently changes.

Anna6 – I think WOL means way of life.

Sunflower1 – 4cms is a great loss off your waist! The most important measurement apparently.

Fuvvie – Sounds like you are going to have a busy day. Have a good one!

Today is an eating day. We are going to a play center with the kids and then picking up some immunisation and drenching stuff to do the sheep when we get back. They need their hooves cut back as well, so I will be getting some exercise today!

    Have a good day all!

    Day 15 – USA – NFD

Had a good NFD today. Saved enough calories for spaghetti for dinner. I’m running 5 miles in the morning and felt like I needed the carbs.

My heart is breaking for Nice.

    Good night.

    Croatia, Day 16, NFD
    Weight: 81.3 Kg
I’m in for bonus round and Phase 3

    US Day 15- NFD

Just a quick check in before bed. Down another pound this week, even after my binge last weekend. I think i did pretty good today even with eating out and getting frozen yogurt.

Congrats to everyone who’s lost weight To those who haven’t keep going we knows this works and a few weeks staying the same or even gaining shouldn’t keep any of us from our final goals!

    Thank you!!
I’m doing ok, but not great. I have calorie counter application and i only think about calorie in vs calorie out. NFD – eat litlle bit above your BMR. The real deal is macro counting, but i will leave it for the next year. I followed leangains before, but i loved 5:2 more. This article could help you all.

    http://www.iifym.com/iifym-vs-meal-plans/

Day 15 Minnesota, USA 11:10 pm
Another NFD. Only one FD completed this week. Grandchildren leave for home early tomorrow morning after a whirlwind of a week. It was great fun having them here, and though we all overindulged with special ice cream treats and such, I don’t regret those choices. I am up 2 kg from last week, but I don’t think it is all “real” weight. I’m hoping some of it is water retention from carb intake (that I’m not use to), and from the sodium content of restaurant foods. It’s happened before, and I’ve lost it within two weeks. I guess we will see over time. Maybe I’ll be able to get in 3 FDs next week to make up for some of the calorie excess. If I end July with a loss of 1 kg, or even just no gain for the month, I will be happy.

I am really looking forward to being able to catch up reading everyone’s posts tomorrow. Not looking forward to the very quiet house, though.

Good luck everyone. I hope all of you are doing well. Sending good thoughts and wishes to all.

    Day 15 Nfd Wisconsin
Checking in ,,,,,, hanging in there,,,,,tough when my routine changes

    Australia, day 16, NFD

UK day 16. Going low today with lots of yogurt and seeds.

    Scotland Day 16 NFD

Thoughts are with the people of Nice and the friends/family of the sick, dying and dead. The French people have had to endure some harrowing times πŸ™ Such is the world we live in today that evil lurks in the shadows and you never know what you’re going to hear next.

Well successful FD yesterday and will try to be mindful today. Wont be hard as I think I have a summer cold coming on. I’ve bought milk Kefir grains for the first time and have some fermenting now. If I’m successful I will have a go at Kombucha to stop myself drinking diet coke and suchlike.

ETJ interesting what you were saying about your mum and personality. I used to get grumpy on fast days but now I sense something else in myself. Not eating sugary stuff and trying to eat healthily has sharpened my senses and I was thinking one day that my mind was as clear as a bell for the first time in decades. Sweet and carby foods are becoming much less of a crutch to get through my days and it’s like you wake up to this person that was you in the time before you got fat, sluggish and in my case slow witted! Well that’s how fasting seems to have affected me anyway.

Good luck everyone with you day and hope you stay safe wherever you are.

    The Netherlands – Day 16 (non-fast day)

    Fast day went well yesterday!

    Northern Spain day 16
    The World has gone mad.
I’m scared to put on the news these days.
Nevertheless, congratulations to everyone on their weightloss and to those who haven’t been as fortunate, don’t worry. If we stick to the routine and let the good habits kick in, the weight will come off eventually.
I have a NF weekend ahead with lots of plans which include beach, surfing and painting. Looking forward to it.
Life is short, we need to be aware of the good times we can share with our families and friends.
    Enjoy the day.
    Cheers

Coda, I like the idea of a bonus!

Day 16 cornwall uk. Sorry I’ve not posted coda, no excuse just busy! Party day today and sister in law’s sress levels are high, but the sun is shinning and it will be a lovely 60th for my brother Nd 31st for my nephew!!

My heart goes out to those who are having difficult times personally and in their countries. I just hate the news it is so depressing!

My niece has been a 5.2er for 3 months and is looking lovely and she says the best thing is she feels so well!! I’m not finding this easy this week so on β€˜damage limitation’!! Not eating breakfasts so on 16-8 I’m keeping busy but absolutely no floor space to do other than basic squats !!

    onwards and down!!! Big hugs!!

End of day 15: Pacific NW USA, successful liquid only 30 hour FD and will probably skip breakfast and have a 16:8 tomorrow.

Weights and measures for the second week of Phase 2: Down 2.6 lbs and 1 1/2 inches in waist; hips and breast not budging. Hope to keep it up so I can be “over weight” instead of “obese” by end of this challenge (like that extraordinaire, ETJ)! I could never believe I would look forward to being over weight!

Anna6: WOL = way of life or I like to think “weigh” of life

    Good night all!

Australia Day 16 NFD – have basically spent the day on the couch trying to rest my knee but it isn’t any better. I think I’ll just have to go to the doctor on Monday. To those who asked how I do 36 hours on just black tea and coffee – I am an “extreme” person. Hence my weight issues in the first place. I finish dinner around 8pm on the night prior to my FD and then stick to my hot drinks until after 8am on the day after my FD. I don’t “let” myself be hungry. I keep very busy at work and have my teacup constantly full so I don’t get a chance to feel hungry. My husband even eats dinner sitting beside me but I just keep my eyes averted. Okay even I realise I am starting to sound a bit strange! πŸ™‚

    Uk day 16
So in addition to planks and squats this week we should be trying to incorporate pushups. If you can’t do ‘real’ push ups try an assisted pushup. I suggest you look them up to get an idea of form and take it slowly. Better to do 5 correctly than 10 incorrectly.

I have had real carb urges for toast the past few days! Remember on the last challenge someone’s suggested a bracelet? Mine finally arrived – a pink silicone band with Stay strong tomorrow is another day. I’ll see if that helps keep me mindful? I should have got one that says drink water as I realised the past few days I have hardly drunk much. So that is something I am going to work on.
    Well done everyone x

    Day 16… UK Nottingham …

Another pound gone this morning to 234.2 thats a total of 6.8lbs in 2 weeks, really pleased with myself, however…. I do have a dinner party tonight, I am being mindful and trying to have a mini fast today, before this evening, hoping I don’t blow all my hard work. Luckily I fast on a Monday, so even if it creeps up a bit Monday should level it out.

Dutch – ‘thank you for the music’ – Bridge Over Troubled Waters, one of my favourites.

ABC – hope things are ok with you.

Coda – I’m up for the bonus challenges and phase 3, although I myself go on holiday on 21st August for 12 nights, only in the UK, so still should be able to check in, but fasting may be a challenge!! we will have to see how it goes.

    Good Luck today everyone x

Coda count me in for the next challenge. I’m not into the exercises but I do keep myself fit and stick to the regime and it’s good to keep clocking in as it keeps me disciplined. Well on the way to my goal on this Challenge but another 7 Ibs would get me back to where I was this time last year.

UK day 16 NFD today .A bit achey from my walk yesterday did 18 miles along the South Downs way- the seven sisters are often substituted for the less photogenic white cliffs of Dover. My OH had double knee replacement just 7 months ago ,so it’s great to be out walking again although it’s not been easy for him getting to this stage .Going to enjoy the weekend and fast on Monday .

Coda – count me in for the next stage

    Gozo, Malta
Back2thefuture and ETJ thanks for explaining WOL to me.

Jml60 I found that fasting does make your senses and clears the mind. It also make you feel more in control and you don’t have a bloated feeling.

HannahWatto I too am an extreme person hence the results of being overweight. But I think I’ve got the hang of serving smaller plates and feeling satisfied with them. I am also staying away from sweet things except at the weekends.

Today and tomorrow are nfd days for me and Monday will be a fast day for me and some of my family members. I will try to remain under my TDEE. Tomorrow I have ll my daughters and their husbands for lunch here. I’m serving a three corse meal. Dessert will be bought though. We re having prawn cocktail, baked chicken with red peppers and potatoes and dessert.

No exercise for today except for playing football with my three year old granddaughter. My two grandaughters are now asleep. Hence my checking in for today.

    Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Day 16, Gloucestershire, UK; Non-fast weekend! A successful fast day yesterday, rewarded with a pound lost…..8 to go (roughly..my ancient scales are a bit unclear at times depending how I stand on them).
Coda: Yes, I will also continue with the next phase. I’m not going away for any holidays, so I’ll just keep on keeping on.

    NLD day 16 FD

Decided to weld in an extra fast day….just because I could and I wasn’t having hunger pangs this morning.
back2thefuture- I know you will be out the obese zone soon- you’re so committed and really working hard. Chapeau! You will be within a healthy BMI at the end of this challenge I’m sure!
ETJ- wow….you are amazing. What tenacity! Congrats in this case being ‘merely’ overweight!
Anna- thanks again. My problem is my NFD’s. They are usually 600-900 cals and then I get worried it’s not enough cals for a NFD and attack almonds or such – and go over TDEE.
Hannah- I didn’t make it a no-cal day! ….but stayed under 400cals……..pff SOME day I can show some backbone and go no-cal like you…..
Ciren- I like that motto: just keep on keeping on. Sounds good!

If tomorrow there’s no weight loss I’m going 4:3. Fasting is the easier part for me if I really go for it. My problem being I’m not eating enough on the NFD’s OR going over AFTER. It’s complicated πŸ˜‰

Monitoring my bloodsugar and ketones. Was really surprised that my ‘standard’ breakfast of bread + butter + avocado (yesterday) caused a major spike in bloodsugar levels going up to 8.5 after 2 hours. So exit bread that I like so much.

Fasting since yesterday 17.00hrs and only 2 boiled eggs today. Bloodsugar 05:45hrs: 4.5. I use Ketostix too to monitor ketones. This evening: 15 mg/dl Yay!

    Very interested in tomorrows weighing.

Read Max Ehrmann’s poem “Desiderata” again today. Whatever the history of Desiderata, the Ehrmann’s prose is inspirational, and offers a simple positive credo for life. I like it very much.

    Just keep on keeping on!

Forgot…..This being such an international thread I need the internet for answers on the used lingo: http://www.netlingo.com/acronyms.php πŸ’‘

    Gozo, Malta

Hi Dutch. On my nfd I usually have a simple breakfast a cereal biscuit sandwich of around 120 of bel vita or one packet of pavesin at 100 calories or a lower calorie yogurt and coffee with milk, no sugar. Then have two meals of around 550 calories at around 1.30 pm and 8.30 pm and snack on fruit or rice cakes if I feel peckish. My husband love roasted almonds but I told him to have a small fistful at a time around 10.

Weekends I have one or two glasses of wine and one sweet dessert. However lately I ve been doing 4:3 and try to walk when I can though not everyday.

By doing 4:3 your weight will go down more I’m sure. Have a wonderful weekend.

California, USA Day 15/16. Yesterday and today -NFD. I weighed in yesterday to find no losses, no gains. Yesterday was my son’s birthday, but made a wise choice of a grilled chicken salad at his favorite restaurant. This evening we are going to our county fair. My OH favorite thing to do at a fair is eat. I am planning to fast until we get to the fair. At least we will be walking a lot this evening. Wishing a great weekend to everyone.

Coda, count me in for the bonus round as well. I will be on vacation the last two weeks of August. I have a bracelet with the word strength on it and it does help me. I wear it during times I know may be difficult for me. I guess I should wear it to the fair tonight.

    Day 16.. UK….Yorkshire

    Checking in

    NFD

USA, Day 16, NFD…. still having coconut oil in my coffee. I think it really keeps me going longer. I seem to be tip toe-ing lower in tiny baby steps..so close to goal. Two days this week in 119-ville. Just finished a very very decadent lunch of a perfect peach and blue cheese. Fat and sugar, but in the right form! Now on to a large glass of water.

I cleaned out a bathroom drawer, tossing, wiping, more tossing….
Three loads of laundry, making a big salad for a park picnic, and now I will try to relax with some knitting.

Hubby coming home in 5 days….. Sigh.

    Dorset UK Day 16
    NFD

Pleased to see that I only finish this challenge 1 day before the rest of you
    πŸ™‚

Im up for the bonus as it falls towards the end of my camping adventures but whilst Im still away visiting family.
I will be away from my scales at the start but Im sure I can use my mum’s and rather than check my actual weight, I can aim for some downward movement.

Yesterday and today have been NFD and Ive been ok – mainly because Im not really allowed to eat much at the mo!

Tomorrow I have to fast from lunchtime, through until Monday teatime, when I come back from the hospital. When I first learned I had to do that, I wondered how in earth I would manage but since starting the 5:2 I know I can do it easily!
I am going to aim for 400 cals tomorrow and play it by ear on Monday, depending on how I feel.

Today was day 16 of Jillian Michaels, so Ive not missed a day yet! May have to skip Monday.

    Also done some gardening today.

Quite a few posts to catch up with, so I’ll do that in a bit after my tea.

Keep on guys….lets all try to add to the collective challenge loss at the end of the month!

    Kay x

Day 16 no time to read posts, hope everyone is ok. Weighed this morning thankfully no change after week of no fasting am continuing to fast this coming week and should be back to daily postings πŸ˜€

Coda, I don’t think Ann Mary knows the rules!!!

In continuing my own personal Konmari challenge, I washed a huge pile of clothes my husband has been “storing” on top of his dresser for ages. I found shirts in there that pre-date our marriage, and we’ve been married for 30 years. I know that because they’re from an employer he left before I met him. I called him at his mother’s house and after we stopped laughing, I told him he has some “editing” to do when he comes home. My mother used to throw things away behind my father’s back — big fights ensued (pretty funny ones from the kiddie perspective) so I told Rick he was lucky. I’m not tossing, but he’ll make him do it!

    Day 16 Sussex, U.K. NFD
Lovely day, didn’t worry about a thing. Thanks for the kind words ETJ.
Normal eating and down to the beach with OH and dog.
    Goodnight everyone. X

    Day 16 (USA -Illinois)

NFD for me – had a very nice women’s mini-retreat this morning for church. Of course, they had beautiful muffins and fruit for breakfast and pulled pork sandwiches for luncheon. I tried to really take small portions and shunned dessert. Good for me, patting myself on the back. I chose not to do a FD today because I knew the temptation of those would be more than I could take on a FD.

Coda – include me, please, on the next interim challenge. You thoroughly confused me on just what day was what, but I will do my best to post with something appropriate each day. This thread has been so good for me for camaraderie and support. GREAT ideas too on how to manage this Fast Diet.

    Austin Tx – Day 16

    Hi y’all,

On the road from Austin to Ohio ….takes a looooong time to get out of Texas.

So yesterday packing and cooking for road and all was too much for a fast…in fact I really blew a fast big time for first time…ended night with cake.

But I’m on the road with good food and two days to regroup before vacation begins at the lake.

Haven’t had a moment to read y’alls posts, hope all is well.

    Italy Day 16 – NFD
Busy Day party wise but think i managed very well. Avoided birthday cake at a kiddies party this afternoon. Stuck to fruit and only had 1 sausage roll and 1 sandwich. Then at a party at the boat club this evening, grill ed fish, salad, fruit. I gave in to a bit of dessert at the end but all in all not too much damage.
    Buona notte

    Day 16, QuΓ©bec

    NFD

Exhausted from the trade show and only had time to check in now. Down 1.5lbs this week so pleased with that as we were away last weekend.

Pilates tomorrow if I wake up!!!!

    😊

Hi all day 16 just about to end here.
Weigh in this morning showed a few pounds gain but I knew that before I stepped on scales as I could just feel them.
Dutch have i understood you only have 600-900 cals for a non fast day? Is that what this site worked out for you? It seems very low. My understanding is a nfd is to your tdee. A fast day is a quarter of your tdee. Whereas all your days are quite low calorie days. Anyone else think the same?
K-lo any chance when you next get chatting to annmaryusa you could explain the rules of the challenge? If she doesn’t want to stick with it that is ok. I am sure you will help her stick with plan anyway. Thanks
Don’t worry as we get closer to end of this challenge I’ll remind you what days we will be starting counting up and then counting down lol. You all had better use the brain power fasting gives to just keep up lol.
    Nite all keep safe x

US SE day 16 NFD. Another day of eating out. Thankfully still under TDEE. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Ireland day 16 nfd….can’t remember if I checked in yesterday…😳😱….anyway incase I didn’t…I was down another 2lb this week so happy….I’m going home from holiday lighter than when I left….now I have to see what my scales says…Debbie’s I’m sure is far more accurate than mine so I’ll wait and see how it goes at weigh in on Friday….

    US Day 16- NFD

Two days of eating out in a row is too much for me anymore. I feel overly full even though I didn’t eat all of my meal. I’m going to look at this as positive however and do a low cal day tomorrow.
