  • Day 13, India, NFD

I am being mindful today.. had tea since morning, plus a few spoons of fruit custard I prepared for a lunch potluck today. Won’t be eating anything before the potluck, so that I can stay inside my TDEE today. Yesterday I went almost 500 calories over my TDEE πŸ™ .. It’s rightly said.. my FDs are just becoming maintenance fasts if I keep on eating over my TDEE on NFDs.. will change this from today.. I have to make it a part of my life.. and not wait for my life to fall in place to start eating less.

Keep the motivation coming ladies! It stays in my head for hours after I read your posts.

Slim & Quebecoise – hope you both are coping up well. **Hugs**

California,USA. Day 12. Today is a NFD, planned to keep to my TDEE,but I know I went over. We had a tragic day at work today (in the ER) so the boss bought pizza for the staff. I didn’t resist. Today’s event triggered a major snack attack this evening. I just needed chocolate and I found some to eat. Tomorrow will be a NFD and I will regroup and plan better to stay within my TDEE. I may even try a fast day. All my days start the same. I haven’t eaten breakfast since starting 5:2. Otherwise my next fast day will be Thursday. I was down a pound this am, but that won’t last. A wish to all to stay strong as we continue thru this challenge.

Day 12: Pacific NW USA, traveling NFD, feels like a 1500 cal day but haven’t put it on MFP yet.

3 year old grandson was beside himself with glee over a surprise for me after we got to his house – he had helped make me a gluten free birthday cake with whipped cream topping with berries and peaches. I ate 1/2 piece which was the first high glycemic carbs I’ve had since April. No discernible ill effects yet and he was so over-joyed it was worth it.

It’s too late to catch up on so many posts but will keep checking in daily.

    Good wishes to all!

    Scotland Day 13 FD

Cizzy I’ve known a lot of shifts like that. Sometimes it’s hard to focus on your own health and well being. Something either stresses/upsets you or you’re too busy and snacking on comfort foods is all that gets you through. Thankfully those days are well behind me and although I now care for my mum full time I take the time to look after myself as best I can.

I never eat breakfast now either and it’s funny how we fall into this pattern. I rarely eat after 4 pm now so I suppose I do 20:4 most of the time. I just drink water or diet coke! I eat well under my TDEE on NFD’s and I give myself a day off on Saturday to have a few treats Sat night while watching a movie. Even then I try just to stay within the TDEE which is quite challenging……who knew Zinfandel had so many calories πŸ™‚ Not that I drink much as one has responsibilities πŸ˜‰

Well yesterday was a successful FD πŸ™‚ and the weight still appears to be coming down. I’ve decided to do another FD today. Still avoiding sugary stuff. I’m not getting the exercise that I would have wished as it’s a busy week with one thing and another. Had to go with hubby to the hosp yest and he’s been diagnosed with a hernia, I have the dentist today and a myriad of other things are going on with mum for the rest of the week! So it’s onward and hopefully downward till Friday weigh in day. Feel like I’m starting to get some control back. Good luck all and joining the group hugs to all facing adversity in their lives.

The Netherlands – Day 13 (fast day)

My weight this morning: 66.7 kilos (147 lbs).
    My length: 165 centimeters ( 5 feet 4 inches)
    My BMI: 24.5
    My measurements:
    Waist: 75 cm
    Hips: 96 cm
    Thigh: 49 cm
    Upper arm: 26 cm

I lost 1 lbs since the start of the challenge and a few centimeters! The weight loss isn’t going as fast as in the beginning, but I’m still losing weight and I’m stiil shrinking, so I’m very happy!

Today is a fast day, a bit difficult because I have a social thing at work with drinks and snacks, called ‘a borrel; in Dutch. I’ll stick to mineral water (I have to drive) and I hope there’ll be cucumber and celery sticks.

    Day 13..UK…Yorkshire..

LFD…low fast day leading into a FD tomorrow.

I had one of those ‘ have some’ days yesterday which was fine, I only have these days very occasionally.

2 red wines, hand full of nuts…finishing some custard off left in fridge….so bananas and custard after dinner.

Just hit my TDEE for the day…I usually keep well below..I didn’t go over!

Morning all. Had a good fast day yester day bit had to work late so didn’t make my pilates class so I went swimming at 6.30am this morning to make up for it. Feeling very virtuous!!! πŸ˜‚

    Surrey UK Day 13
Merryme, thank you once again for laying it out so clearly. There has been a certain flagging of the spirit in the previous week, but reading what you had to say, coupled with starting a new year (in age) will hopefully help.
It is my choice whatever I do, knowing that certain bad habits have established themselves over the years and how to deal with that is also my choice. I intend changing the habit by introducing another, more fruitful and productive habit.
So each day is a new start, and that is how today will be approached. It is interesting to see that there are quite a few of us having our own little battles, and so encouraging to see the Human Spirit fight back in various ways!
Please just tell me, what is 16:8?

    Northern Spain day 13.
    Good morning everyone.
    Fast day today.
Had a good day yesterday, ate well and didn’t overdo it. These good habits are beginning to kick in but I have struggled against it!!!
This time round I find that excercise helps enormously. Walking and pilates are having a huge effect on the outcome of the diet.
Thanks Coda for the link.I saw the article and read it.
Today we will have homemade vegetable soup and an omelette.
Now, that’s not exactly punishment, is it?
Hope everyone has a good day wherever you are and whatever you’re doing.
    Cheers

UK day 13 Morning all, good day yesterday not quite a FD but near ( absentmindedly started eating the croutons as they came out of oven ) to accompany the gazpacho I made) Not sure yet about today, just having a coffee waiting for my appt at the passport office to replace the one I washed last week, have a lot of travelling g so may make it a FD will report back tomorrow

    Day 13– Colorado, USA

Merryme– thank you for taking the time to write such a sensible & inspiring post! I feel as though you’ve grabbed me by the shoulders & given me a good shaking! πŸ™‚
Now I plan to have a terrific Fast Day today!

    Gozo, Malta

It’s a fast day for me today. Everything went well up till now. Sticking to plenty of sparkling water this morning. I just had lunch which was salad and 200 g cottage cheese.

My grandson has fever today and my daughter might not be fasting today she said. I’m babysitting my granddaughters today.

Best wishes to everyone. Have a great day.

    Day 13 – NH, USA

NFD again today but yesterday I didn’t even get close to goal; only 700 calories and I should be consuming almost 1500. I’m just not feeling right today and the idea of food is making my stomach queasy. I don’t want to stay too far under my calorie consumption for too long, I’m sure a few fasting days in a row won’t hurt me,…right? I hope everyone has a great day today!!

    Austin,Tx FD

    Hi Y’all
Plan to have a good fast day today.

Last night, I started a trial medication, LDN, for my frozen shoulder and general autoimmune tendencies. Anyone try it? I’m excited but I think it kept me more awake than usual and is making me feel a little queasy this am. Hoping it will help get me back to yoga which helps all my parts feel better for other exercise.

Looked through my diet diary from 4th of July, to daughters birthday party to yesterday, and I think my Goal for this challenge will be more like .5-1 lb. But I would have gained in the past, so all good.

    Happy day.

USA, Day 13. NFD today. Yesterday was a July birthday party at work, I succumb to temptation and ate some sweets and cake. Scale was not happy about it. Will avoid carbs today and will fast tomorrow.

SlimnHealthy, good luck with a new meds, and hi from “neighbor”. πŸ™‚

    Day 13 NFD wisconsin

So yesterday turned out to be a EEIWD (eat everything I want day) I was even hungry when I went to bed at the end of the day of eating. Today will be more purposeful and I will tell myself that it’s not that I CANT eat certain things…..it is that I WONT…..big difference.

Here’s to a day that focuses on nourishing my body not just feeding it.

USA, Day 13, FD. I had a good NFD, dining out at a new local restaurant with my son. When the waitress put my plate down in front of me, I looked at the portion size and said “okay, I’ll take home half.” AND that’s what I did.

Still holding steady at 120 and change. No loss during this challenge…thus far, but I have a feeling that next week is my week settle into 119 territory.

Instead of regular squats, I have been doing 30 second wall squats.

This morning I sent off 6 too large bras to “Free the Girls” in Chesterton Indiana, a charity that helps girls freed from sexual slavery.

UK day 13…heading to Mum’s for a week. Will do my best.
    Mx

    Day 13 USA (Illinois)

FD for me – thought about waiting for FD til tomorrow, but am going to be busier today, so easier for me to fast. Supper last night was a Long Island Iced Tea and cheese popcorn, probably not the best choice, but that was what I was hungry for. Oh well.

NorrieB – 16:8 means you fast each day for 16 hours and eat only during 8 of a normal day. My daughter said a friend of hers has done only that style of fasting and has lost weight well. Some NFD’s I do a 16:8. I have also heard of that being a good maintenance for when we have lost the weight we want to lose.

At my new exercise place yesterday I saw a Curves friend (our local Curves closed, so we are going to different places in town). She noticed my weight loss but encouraged me not to lose much more so my old-self wrinkles don’t show too much. I also have seen skinny women of advanced age (65+) who really are more wrinkly than they should be.

Day 13: Cotswolds, Gloucs. UK: Fast day. Nothing to eat for about 26 hours, so far. The dangerous time is when I will soon have my 500 calories. Plan for it to be 2 x boiled eggs 2 x bread and butter and a glass of whole milk, then STOP. Plan nothing else until a normal non-fast day tomorrow. I should also be doing my 1-hour brisk walk later….depending on the weather. I got soaked yesterday! Feeling generally confident.

Day 13. FD. Yesterday’s NFD went okay. I would like to encourage all who struggle to keep things under control on NFD’s. That is hard. I am observing, however, that over time, as I further cement my Fasting habits into my wiring, my NFD’s are less likely to present a problem. The body adapts, and expects less. Keep that long term goal in mind. Throw a bad day into the light. Name it. Don’t let it eat at you (no pun intended), and begin again.

It is interesting how many more bad days I had on the first challenge than I am having now. That’s because this way of life is becoming more habit, and less an act of my will. The process is fascinating to me.

Of course, others have talked about emotional/psychological reasons related to food. Those issues have to be dealt with as well. For me, the issue has always been more a matter of math. More going in than out. I’ve tried to sort through my eating habits and look for something deeper. I haven’t come up with anything yet. Other than a basic willful ignorance on my part. The sad truth is, even though I like to exercise, and get plenty of it, my body still just doesn’t burn as many calories as I would like it to in a day. That’s just the way most bodies are made. Especially bodies of women past 40. Boo hoo. Good thing I love a challenge. πŸ™‚

Just thinking out loud. I like your new acronym Delwct.

    Ontario
    Day 13
NF day – Yeah! but is a 16:8 day and just started eating with olives and cheese. Yum
Did my 3KM walk in the humidity even at 6:30 AM this morning

Delwct I also do 16: 8, eat during the 8 hours only generally between noon and 8, fasting for rest of 16 hours. The less meals I have the better it is for keeping my insulin levels lower – as I am considered as having insulin resistance or metabollic syndrome. 1-1/2 yrs ago the doctor was going to put me on metformin but I convinced him to wait, that I would drop some weight so my A1C would drop. This is a slow process, hard to lower the counts, but that is and remains my goal.
I am not sure if 16 8 lowers weight so much as reduces meal times negating the spiking of insulin. But I think in combination, and especially with 2-3 days of 24 hour fasts, and eating LCHF has put me in the best position to continue to both drop weight, so my A1C drops as well. My goal is to have my A1C down to 5.5 or less.
Weight loss since start of journey is 43 pounds. It continues to be slow process, but alot of that has to do with being insulin resistant. But it does come off. I never count calories (but I do try to on FD’s). I just eat LCHF and if I did count, likely low in calories as the fats do fill you up nicely! But of course high in calories.

Hi UK Day 13 FD just quick check in to mark my spot as to where I have caught up to. So far one piece of buttered toast – so far so good.

US SE Day 12 NFD. All going well so far. Need to have my daughter lock up the Smartfood popcorn (white cheddar)…. yum yum….boy am I addicted to that 😊

    Hi Coldpizza neighbor! Thnx!

K-lo , 119 was my weight before i began the process of selling house n moving cross country. (Im very petit uh hum, short) i Gained over 20 pounds in 2+years…hormones changing at same time as i cured my gallbladder disease so i was suddenly very hungry after years of nausea, homeless n stressed! Anyway, im down to 136 but 119 seems like a different life away..just hearing K-lo talk about it..im thinking…well, maybe its not so far off. Slow n steady.

Slimn, when I was in my early 40s, I was a strict low carber and I got down to 116 — and stayed in that vicinity for quite some time. THen I inched up to the low 120s…then mid…then high. And then I broke my dang foot last November. Now, at 60, I weigh what I did when I got married.

And as today is a fast day, I walked right by the free brownies, ice cream and crescent rolls (they resembled croissants only in curvature) on my way to the microwave to heat up my miso soup.

I just ordered a size 6 swimsuit from Lands End. Now THAT may be wishful thinking!

    Hello again!

Delwtc- simply love the concept of EEIWD or eat everything I want day.
Great thinking.I keep one day a week for me like that. Usually Sundays or Saturdays, depending on what’s on at the weekend. We usually enjoy a few drinks with pintxos or whatever.
I wonder what Dr.Mosely would make of it!!!
The problem is pulling your appetite back in afterwards – for me anyway.
    Cheers

Day 13 Los Angeles. NFD going well so far. DebbieQ i know what you mean about that Smartfood cheddar popcorn!

    Hello everyone!

ETJ, Back2TF, Jayne, BrightonBelle, Anna, Debbie and Coda…….thank you all so much foryour good luck. Late this afternoon I got a phone call that I got the job. I’m thrilled! Great job at the Immigrations Office. Taking me out my comfort zone and challenging me but that’s what I need right now. Celebrated with my sister who spent the day here today. We started shopping for clothes – a size 38 so that was a good start of the day. In the evening we had wine before dinner, then a big salad and chocolate ice cream after. Not going to count calories …don’t want to know!! Was a great day all in all.
I haven’t read the posts today.
    Beep—–NL day 13 NFD

    Dutch…wonderful news!!!

    Italy Day 13 – NFD
    Weight 77.9 kg

I managed not to go over the top today. Clocked in about 1700 calories. Went swimming and did 75 squats.

Feeling more in control- its all in the planning
    Congratulations DutchπŸ‘

    Day 13 … UK Nottingham

NFD, stayed within TDEE, but have just given in yo a biscuit, only 1 and it has solved my craving.

FD tomorrow, rather looking forward to it, which seems a bit weird, I just so want this diet to work, tried so many over the years and failed 😩

UK day 13 checking in. Feeling guilty that I’m not contributing this time around, sorry everyone, just keeping on keeping on and hoping to catch the wave again soon.

Sunshine Coast Aus Day 14 (looks like there are 2 day 14s for me and no day 13. How about that?)

Successful FD yesterday. Original weight was 123.9kgs. Have managed to crack the 107 at 107.7kgs. I’m doing a happy dance all around the house. My BMI was 42.9 when I started and is now 38.2. Waist to height ratio has gone from 0.72 to 0.65. I know these are big numbers for those who are now in the 60kgs range which is the low end of my normal range, but this has happened over 11 weeks and 2 days. I didn’t believe I could fast let alone follow a plan like 5:2, but desperate needs oft time lead to desperate deeds. I read the book, looked up the website, and here I am bouyed up by all these positive people who are doing great things with their lives and positively pushing one in the right direction with sound advice and encouragement beyond measure. I cannot express my gratitude enough. Thank you everyone. I wish you all the best for today and onwards.

Congratulations Dutch on achieving your job.

    Absolutely delighted for you Dutch!

UK day 13, NFD, total 3lb loss since day 1.
Pleased to say I’ve not undone all the good of yesterday’s FD. I too have struggled with not immediately negating the benefits of FDs with overindulgence on NFDs. Perhaps this is the start of the roller coaster getting a little less extreme!
Love reading the posts – thanks all.

    Congratulations Dutch well done x

    Day 13. Sussex, U.K. NFD
Went way over my tdee tonight. Just lost it and binged on butter on thin flatbreads.
Fast day tomorrow, busy day so should be fine. Weigh in on Friday. X

    US Day 13- NFD

Feel like today was pretty good. The kids in the camp I’m helping with made coral polyp cupcakes and I kept myself away from them so I wouldn’t eat any of the cupcakes or frosting! Fast day tomorrow!

    Congrats Dutch!

    Dorset UK Day 13
    NFD

    Quick check in.

    Completed. Stayed under calorie allowance.
    FD tomorrow – Thursday.

Fuvvie – right on! Happy dance!

    Dutch- congrats on job!!!!

I was about to eat my children with butter tonight (FD) but instead had a half cup red beans out of the kids dinner. Sometimes one must choose the lesser of evils. πŸ˜‹

    Day 13 – USA – NFD

I had a good day today, but felt really tired when I went to the gym after work. My workout was tough. When I got home I looked at the calendar and realized that I have exercised 7 days in a row! So tomorrow will be a rest day and a FD.

    Great job, Fuvvie!

    Congrats, Dutch.

    Australia – Day 14 – 17 days to go of challenge πŸ™‚

Dutch – a huge congrats! That is great news.

An eating day today. Almost half way through this challenge. It is flying by! Feeling a bit better today, so hopefully am on the mend. It is finally not raining today – a big positive. Hopefully we can have a few days or weeks to dry the place out. I was feeding the sheep the other day and my gumboot got stuck in the mud and I fell on my butt into a freezing puddle of sloshy mud and water, lol. Hubby was out with me and we both had a huge laugh. I just sat there and said “I don’t know how to move!” The sheep were staring at us, probably thinking I was half crazy. I finally managed to get out and had to come in and wash everything. The kids I think thought I was half mad too, haha. The farrier came out to do the horses feet today and this afternoon we are going to town.

The jumpers and pj’s I brought in an AUS size 14 fit perfectly! The long sleeve shirts looked so small, lol. I didn’t think they’d have a hope of fitting. And fit really well!

Coda, day 12 is really day 13…. boy I really need to get my act together 😊

Ireland day 13 nfd….can’t believe how easy it is to stay in my tdee…with calls to spare 😎

    Croatia, Day 14, NFD
    Weight: 81.5 Kg

Australia Day 14 FD – hey Slim – were you really going to eat your children with butter? πŸ™‚ Did they complain? πŸ™‚ My knee is still bad, I can’t walk any distance. Am dreading tomorrow’s weigh in.

    Day 13, QuΓ©bec

    Nfd.
Planning for a fd tomorrow but not sure I will be able to do it. Crossing my fingers.

    Bye bye
