Day 21 Florida USA FD
Ended up with 600 calories for the day instead of 500. (my husband switched our dinner from chicken to pork)
I’m still counting it as a fast day and will eat below TDEE tomorrow. Unfortunately, no opportunity for exercise today, although I did a lot of housework.
Wishing everyone success as we enter last third of this month’s challenge. 💪
Day 22 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD 79.6kg
Finally a second NFD back under 80kg. So many here are so supportive, thank you for all the comments! I tend to lack tack, a common problem for men so that is why I often am concerned about being offensive.
@fatrabbit – Congrats on your progress!!! When you have the frequent NFDs that 5:2 does I don’t think metabolic slowdowns is a real problem. When one under eats for months without any normal eating cycles then there is a very real risk of adaptive thermogenesis (starvation mode) taking place. For example the people on the biggest loser diet use a calorie restrictive diet coupled with intense exercise for 30 weeks. It is little wonder they commonly encounter negative metabolic outcomes. Not only does their caloric needs decline because of fat loss, they also suffer the bodies additional adaptions to extreme calorie deficits so it can survive. That can include things like lower body temperature, lower blood pressure, lower heart rate, more sleepiness, less energy, etc. All the things that make one feel terrible. Ironic as it may seem, fasting is actually a big part of the cure for that problem, as long as you have enough body fat to support the fasting. Feast and famine is better than long term rationing. https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/the-biggest-loser-diet/
@Shara57 – We seem to be on exactly the same page of thought. However you do have a better BMI than I do. I’m typically right around 26.3 or so. I think in the end I should be just barely under a BMI of 25. I probably have 5 kg of fat I can still safely lose. The key for me though is to trying to see myself as I really appear and to stop hiding. I think that is also why I weigh myself almost everyday.
Day 22 – Perth AUS – NFD
So it’s meant to be a fast day, but for the first time it’s been really incredibly hard as I ‘ate well’ yesterday and had lots of food I’ve stayed away from for the last month or so. That included lots of sugary treats, carbs and salty greasy goodness. I’ve been eating a fairly keto diet, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that a massive carb and sugar day has wreaked havoc 😛 Will keep roughly to TDEE today and tomorrow I’m going to catch that wagon, jump back on and strap myself down!
Day 21, Oceanside CA, NFD
Day 22, Oceanside CA, NFD
Fantastic energy after my Monday FD. Walked fastest 3 miles to date. Same weight for 2 weeks but feel that last pound to goal just about here.
NFD dinner just a bit more protein, baked salmon today, small sweet potato and broccoli. Fun part is a nice Cosmo martini and glass of wine. Similar dinner for tomorrow and the protein waffle with fruit a breakfast staple.
Good Fitbit step count today 18,811 steps for 10.26 miles. Includes 18 holes golf and 2 nice 3 mile plus walks. All part of the Fast 5:2 WOL.
Day 21 TX NFD
Day 22 TX FD
Back to work so slow to post. It went great. Thanks to all who advised to eat something small at lunch. I made cabbage soup and it filled me up. I even got up early Monday and Tuesday to exercise before school. The students were great. It was nice to see them. We only have 10 more weeks until summer. Hopefully I will be in shape by then to wear shorts and go to the pool. The encouragement from the group has been amazing! Love hearing your stories am and thinking about you.

Day 22 UK FD
On to day 3 of 800 cals. Starting off with a headache and my asthma woke me up last night for the first time in ages. I either have a bit of a cold or the tree pollen is getting going. pesky allergies. Not hungry and I am not going to risk waking the hunger dragon so I won’t take an ibuprofen. Maybe coffee will sort the headache. Quiet day again so will cook a curry later. I think there are some sweet potatoes that need to be used.
Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive. It has made a huge difference to me.
Day 21 / Sweden / NFD
I’m feeling a bit impatient about my progress this month, I’m down 1 kg after three weeks which is good but I was hoping for 2 for the month. I think I’ll try a b2b for day 22 and 23 and see how that affects my progress. In the past, a b2b hasn’t had much of an effect on weight loss for me but it does empower me. That feeling of “Yes, I can do this” does put my head in a better place.
Take care!
Day 22 UK NFD 🌈
Hi all, did my 3 day FDs and actually it wasn’t that bad. I think the it’s a lot of mind over matter for me, the first day always seems to be the hardest then the second one was surprisingly good, then by day three I was “u got this”. Also helped to be busy, and I don’t under-estimate the power of this group. Logging in and reading the posts keeps me occupied and going on.
So far this month 6lb weight loss, on track for my 7lb goal.
@snowflake56 well done to u too x
So next few days I have quite a few meals out, going to try to just drink water and lemon all day until the meal then have exactly what I want, no calorie counting just good 😊 ish choices made.
Day 22 UK NFD
Need to take care with food choices today to try make sure I am ready for tomorrow’s FD.
@dykask as you know bmi is a blunt instrument especially when you are building muscle. You seem to have travelled quite a way down that road. I have only just started to add some resistance training to my usual pilates, even light weights are killing me right now. I don’t know what my fat % is but won’t have much muscle. 15lbs to goal will take me down to bmi in the 23s probably about right for me at the moment. I find your posts enormously informative and helpful. Thank you.
Day 22 – Switzerland – NFD
Still wiped out by this cold, so decided not to fast today. Drinking lots of water, which should help. Also really not hungry. So funny, last week I felt that sticking diligently to 4:3 had allowed me to dodge the bug that had taken down the rest of the family, as I felt great. Guess I spoke too soon…
Lovely to read all the posts – I know I’ve been a bit on-and-off with monthly challenges, but this must be one with the least ‘drop-outs’: there’s a real sense that we’re in this together, thanks to intelligent and caring support, not least from @at!
Day 22, FD, Kent UK Goal 4 pounds this month
Where is the time going? March is whizzing by and getting nearer to ‘weigh in’ day. Am I worried about the result? No! Because this is a learning journey. If you have fasted and not over eaten on non fast days you will lose weight in one month. If you haven’t succeeded you have eaten ‘too much’ and will need to try harder next month. There is no hurry( unless you have a special event planned). I don’t put pressure on myself anymore. No B2B fasts or 5 day fasts (yes I have done water only fasts for five days in the past) I found they lead to big weight loss and big regain, what is the point of that? I would rather aim for one pound per week. That’s 3500 calories cut in one week. As I average 1800 per day as a vegetarian eating fish( pescatarian) no sugar or processed carb person that reduction is enough. I don’t count calories but know most portion sizes and calories from years of weight watching. It’s doable!
I think there are many sad stories on here and they are ‘key’ to why people used food to comfort themselves. Mirrors don’t lie and often children don’t lie either. A child will always see their mother as beautiful no matter what the mirror says or society accepts is standard for beauty. I spent 20 years working with young children and learned to see what they see. If you are kind and caring you are beautiful and your family and friends are very lucky to have you. We are lucky to have you on this thread too. NOW PLEASE stop beating yourself up, enjoy your life now, have some fun, put the music up loud and dance or Hula Hoop, express your inner child.
Don’t forget to fast too though
Day 22 – FIN – NFD
Today’s weight: 63.3 kg
I’m back from my skiing trip, (@at, the trip was mostly holiday, but I did squeeze in a bit of work as well) still feeling pretty sore despite (or because?) all the sitting in cars and airplanes yesterday. Suppose a minimum of 5 hrs skiing/day does that to you, despite all preventive measures (warming up before skiing, packing along a protein bar, stretching, rehydration in the afternoon/evening) taken. I will definitely schedule in some stretching today.
I managed to stick to my previous NFD/FD plan, although yesterday I did go over the 500 kcal limit by quite a lot – I ended up eating the mini baguette they handed out on the first flight since I couldn’t pack it into my luggage (it didn’t come packaged). Not sure how much energy that contained, but I’m assuming I ended up eating about 700 kcals in total (with one banana for breakfast, one protein bar pre-flight and one grapefruit before the second flight).
I also ended up eating dessert (some kind of tart with puff pastry with pastry cream and blueberries/raspberries on top) on Sat when we were over at friends for dinner, and feel a bit guilty since I consider it to be a partial breach of my no-sweets/junk-food commitment for lent. But I’m not going to be too hard on myself for that, since I’m feeling lighter and leaner, and despite the varying scale results, it feels like my weight is slowly going down.
Day 22 Portugal FD
Back on the wagon today after a day or two of uncontrolled eating (esp yesterday). I think I will try ADF until end of month. I find that the weekend is always difficult as I eat too much undoing all the good done through week. So planning to fast on either Saturday or Sunday might help. Exercise workout complete (fitness blender) for today. Preparing myself for dreaded dental visit.
Day 22, London, UK, FD (2nd of b2b)
Yesterdays FD was a swap due to yoga, so today I’m back on the ADF track. I found yesterday relatively easy because I was so busy and getting home late meant definitely no food, however, I did go to the supermarket at lunchtime (detour from my walk!!) and purchased the crisps and cakes (on special of course!!) I wanted to eat, except I couldn’t because it was a FD. I do this often and then guilt kicks in after eating some on a NFD and I bin the rest!!!
I’m on a training course tomorrow so I can’t scoff the lot, and Fridays FD will keep me in control, I’ll donate the lot to the Mother’s Day celebrations at my parents on Sunday……………Pheeewww!!! This hoarding seems to be a habit……………is it just me!!!
I’m really looking forward to the 800cal BSD results from our guinea-pigs……..Erhm, I mean volunteers!! Hope it’s going well – @onahealthyhigh, @coda, @fatrabbit, @strawberriesandcream, @redrockgirl302.
@elektron, I put my keys or glasses down and 2 minutes later can’t find them, but If you waft any type of refined carbohydrate in my direction, my body remembers, craves and knows exactly what it is and what to do with it (hence my name!)….………..convert it to fat and slap it on my behind!!!! I think it’ll be a constant battle of brain vs refined carbs!!! I wonder if I’ll ever get to the point where I ‘forget’ how good the bad things taste!!!!

Good luck everyone and remember to keep the faith, I’ve plateaued and yo-yoed for the first 3 weeks of March, had my TOM and today a huge whoosh so currently 4.2lbs down from March 1st ………… I doubted, but I kept going because there is NO alternative and I know this works!!!!!
Day 22, Newcastle UK, FD
Ok, so yesterday worked well. I did end up having nuts, avocado and an apple for lunch before doing 3.5 hours hard gardening in the afternoon but had plenty calories left for a decent meal when I got home – all within the 16:8 timeframe. So far this 5 day experiment is working, with the 300 extra calories making a real difference. I know I would not have been able to do more than a 2 day B2B on the 500 calorie regime – much less so on liquid only. Again, the beauty of this plan is finding what suits us individually and there is no absolute right or wrong way.
@missymoo – we’ve all got your back and there’s still a good bit of March left to make a difference. You can do it.
@notmyrealname – I hope your good result has given you the lift you need right now. Remember everything is temporary, so look forward to happier times.
@okeydokey – your emojis make me smile and they show that you are a loving and caring person.
@ratrabbit – I’m pleased this 800 cal experiment is working for you – I’m keeping you in my pocket along with our other fellow experimenteers (aka guineapigs @flourbaby – LOL)
@monkeydo – moving is one of the most stressful experiences we go through. Try not to let that sabotage devil take advantage of your situation. You are in charge of what you eat – not it.
@elektron – the longer and more frequently you avoid the sugary refined carbs, you’ll find that when you do indulge you’ll likely not get the same enjoyment as your tastebuds start to react differently to the sickly sweetness and other garbage that’s in them.
@orpheusx – good luck with your B2B – a bit of mixing things up seems to be a good strategy to get things moving.
Finally @gopackgo – MMMMMMM – peanut butter. Every week I stand for about 30 seconds staring at the jar of crunchy peanut butter that I desperately want to buy at the supermarket. Somehow, I am managing to avoid the temptation by telling myself I can have it when I get back to target – in moderation! I hope you feel better soon.
Wishing you all a happy and successful Wednesday.
Day 22 Oxfordshire NFD
Hello folks,
This is great. I’ve completely lost my ‘background’ appetite and every day seems to be turning into a fast day even though it may be an unofficial one. My intention this month was to maintain where I already was but I’ve lost 6.4 lbs and haven’t been this weight since Nov 2015. A big thankyou to everyone who posts on here because it keeps me inspired no matter what method you are using and a huge thankyou to @at who manages to include everybody daily. 👍
@tillergirl this is so funny. I didn’t twig until yesterday afternoon why you were tillergirl. I was thinking you must be a dancer 💃 but that shows my age ! It’s good to see that everything went OK for you yesterday and that you have a plan in mind. At least you know where you are going. I’ve got my FDs as Mon and Fri but as I said every day seems to be turning into one. Are you feeling a bit more motivated too after joining this thread ? Getting past the first day well is good. If hubby makes you take cake you’ll have to throw it to the ducks 🦆🦆
Day 22…..Florida……FD
Morning everyone! Just a quick update, I’ve made it home just fine. All in all, it was a good trip, managed to get a few good things accomplished.
It was so busy being back home, it was really hard keeping up with all the posts, so now I officially back to my regular scheduled programming, I know I’ll get caught up in no time.
I was extremely worried about the amount of weight I was going to gain, while I was gone. Being home and being around restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops, that I don’t have around where I live now. I knew there was no way in heck, I was going to be able to stick to any normal and logical eating habits. But, I am happy to report that I am only up 5lbs! What a relief, because I almost had myself convinced, I gained all 23lbs back.
My wonderful hubby, is so amazing when I told him of only 5lbs, he gave me a hug and said, you know that will be gone in no time!
Okay well, time is flying this morning, so off to work I shall go!
Peace be with you!
Day 22, Germany, NFD
Weight March 1: 61,3 kg
Goal weight somewhere in the future: 56 kg
Goal weight March 31: 59 kg
Weight today a stunning 57,5 kg!
My 4 FD’s went very well. Yesterday we had a delicious dinner with the cod-fish-cheeks. I told my DH I could have this as my last supper. Well, I’ll never say this again, 2 hours later I had a small stroke, I couldn’t think clearly, my left arm was lame and I lost the abality to pronounciate properly. DH, a docter, internal medicine/nephrologist, proved all vital functions, all well, so we decided I would stay at home. I’ve had it much worse, so I’m trying to stay relaxed, it will pass. This morning my brain is functioning better, the ability to speak slowly returns, my arm gets better, so we decided to continue the noodle hunt.
@misgizmo, @jojo58 an @okeydokey we found the Konjac noodles in the last grocery store we have here in the gluten-free department. @okeydokey the package says shiritake-noodles so it’s seems to be just another name. Ofcoure you can’t get cauliflower rice overhere, how do you make it, just kind of shave it or put it in the Magimix to ground it?
Good luck to all fasters and non-fasters on this sunny spring day!
@snowflake56 – I hope you are ok- are you sure you shouldn’t seek some medical attention?
Day 22 – Queensland, Australia – NFD
Day 22, Germany, FD
I lost half kilogram by my Monday fasting. Soooo i feel very excited. Meanwhile any of u have problem with sleeping because of fasting? I think it’s a side effect for me.
@southcroydon congrats for losing 2lb
@snowflake you r so fast on getting results. Congrats
Everybody there goodluck for all ur effort.
@snowflake I’m amazed you can be so calm about this
Day 22- USA (Illinois) – NFD
Stayed very near TDEE yesterday with a South Beach salmon recipe for supper. I never really liked plain salmon, but this makes a stuffing of chopped spinach, pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, and I always add fresh mushrooms & Parmesan cheese. I bake it with a foil covering for 15 minutes, then 10-15 more with the foil off. I also either sprinkle with garlic salt when the filet is split or add a clove or two of minced garlic. It makes several nice servings depending on the size of the fish.
@snowflake56 – I’m like others – amazed you are so calm and recovering so quickly from your mini-stroke. Whew. Hugs to you!
@schatziii – trouble sleeping does seem to be a common side effect of fasting. People talk about various helps for it, but often it includes some sleep aid on the night of a fast, once a week or so. Headaches and feeling cold often afflict us as well. The coldness effects me the worst so I dress in lots of layers and use hot pads for hands or feet especially.
@bert1802 – glad you didn’t gain it all back! Yes, I bet you’ll lose those 5 quickly. Good you made it through the family times up north too.
Day 22 FD USA, WI
Gonna attempt a FD today. Still under the weather, but I no longer feel the need for comfort carbs like I did the last two days. Armed with lots of chicken broth to drink – we’ll see how it goes. I’ll catch up on posts later, I think a morning nap is calling my name.
Good luck to everyone today!
Day 22 London – FD
Yesterday’s FD ended up being a Controlled NFD – we had a friend over and ended up going out for dinner and I shared a bowl of chips and vanilla milkshake(both amazing) but still well under TDEE for the day – tiredness made it a long boring day, I really couldn’t wait for it to be over, but happy to have a controlled day all the same and this morning still feeling light.
I have started doing chest exercises as I’ve noticed my upper chest looking a bit skinny (always been that way but worse now having lost some weight and certainly worse over the last year or so). I expect it will take a few weeks to notice any difference, but I have very little muscle in that area to start with so any change however small would be an improvement. At the moment I think the dumbells I have at home are are too light, apparently it needs to be the heaviest weights you can lift yet still complete the set, increasing the weight as you get stronger. I’ve started doing push-ups too but at the moment I can only manage about 10 before collapsing in a heap!
@erikaa67 It’s funny, my fast day meals are so much more interesting than the foods that I was eating so mindlessly before – I can def recommend the Fast Diet recipe book – The pictures are beautiful and there are so many ideas for easy meals that make FDs feel special and not about deprivation. They are dishes that I would want to eat any time and having the calorie count clearly stated helps too.
@erika45 – hope the dentist goes well today, and that it’s all over quickly and as painlessly as possible! Regarding a weekend FD, give it a go, I really enjoyed mine last weekend. Of course much easier if you’re busy and don’t have any social engagements planned which involve food or drink…
@snowflake56 – I hope you’re feeling better now, lucky you that DH is a doctor. I know it’s very important to spot a stroke early, I hope you’re recovering but please go to the hospital if anything changes. And well done on the weight loss, what a result!
Adding my name to the Pocketeers:
@jojo58
@deirdre54321
@skinnylove
@okeydokey
@metatauta
@flourbaby
@fayefaye
Good luck all! – May we all eat mindfully and feel energised!
Day 22 (really??) Maine NFD
Whew – time is Flying! Pretty decent NFD yesterday – mindful of water – fasting today ’till afternoon – early Italian restaurant dinner planned w/friends. Not a huge pasta lover, but sure love the bread – will be mindful.
@snowflake56 – sounds like you’re familiar w/strokes – very scary. Is this an allergic reaction to the fish (probably a stupid question) or something way more serious? Do you take medication? Relieved your DH is a DR!
@songbirdme – that salmon sounds absolutely divine – am definitely going to give that a try – we live salmon in our house.
@bert1802 – so happy you could push the reset button & feel back in control. This WOL is designed for that, but I know all too well the panic that comes from eating out of control & the fear of gaining all the weight back. I’ve done it too many times – to the point where I just gave up, gained all the weight back & pretended I didn’t care. Feel so much better doing this – take a deep breath & push reset! God bless your hubby – said exactly the right thing! Aside, from all the yummy food from childhood, how did it go w/your Mom?
@flourbaby – you make me laugh!
@jojo58 – I love hearing about your life – discipline personified & fun exemplified!
@at – again, amazing – thank you for your commitment, time & encouragement. I look forward to your motivation.
To all fighting colds & flu – hoping you feel better – drink lots of fluids & nice cups of hot tea. To all feeling a little down, keep the faith & keep reading this forum – a wonderful snippet of life around this wondrous world – all humans (& a couple of animal stories) battling same feelings & obstacles, no matter where we live.
Make it a great day everybody!

Day 19 NFD
Day 18 NFD
Sorry for poor posting performance. Work is chocka.
Fast Day #3 of the week. 2 more left. Weight down a bit from last week’s slight increase, and lower than the previous ‘low’ of a week and a half ago. So hoping for a bit more when the official weekly weigh-in takes place. Did a Spin class yesterday and have my swimming for fitness tonight, so “Burn-baby-burn. Disco Inferno” is my mantra for this week 🙂
Good luck to all. I’ve read as many posts as I have time to. Some good stuff on the support front. Enjoy life and don’t give up the fasting, it works!!
Day 22 – USA – FD
@flourbaby, speaking of “behinds”, I got a gander of mine in a store mirror yesterday as I was exiting my car on the way to the hair salon…it’s amazing what the friendly mirrors at home will show you as opposed to the strange ones outside. I looked like I was dragging mine 2 blocks behind the size of Texas. And on top of that, I got a short cut for the first time in years, so my appearance seemed even more exaggerated to me, akin to a cherry on top of a watermelon. Enough incentive to make it a good FD today and continue with tweaking what works!
Day 22 – Perth, W.Aust – NFD
Survived my first day at work, was very organised. Turns out that preparing everything the night before rather than leaving my food choices being done with morning brain was a good decision. Will have to make sure that it becomes a habit. Thank you @at and @dykask for your good wishes.
Be strong, be kind, be fabulous.
