Day 17 Kent UK FD Goal 4 lbs this month
Morning all,
Sun shining again so I am spending the early morning walking and watering my newly planted garden pots. Ballroom Fitness dance class later and followed by swimming then Bridge this afternoon. Bowls match this evening. I will squeeze in a salad at 6 pm, thinking calamari, I love it.
Another busy weekend planned with lunch out on Sunday, probably fish and veg, dessert only if there is a healthy option or cheese and biscuits. Still off sugar and very happy about that.
This month is flying by. Now to catch up on last days posts, that might take awhile.
Hope everyone is well and more importantly happy. I am feeling good even though I have no idea what my weight is, this ‘no weighing’ is very liberating, it just changes the mindset for me. Prevention not cure attitude. Another good habit entrenched, who would have thought it from a serial weigher? But then I used to be a serial breakfast eater and now ‘never’ eat it. Changing old habits is like shedding skin and starting fresh. Embrace change I say!
Day 17 UK NFD
The extra calories got me through yesterday feeling a success. I need to be nicer to myself while things are difficult. If an extra salad can make the difference between hope and despair it can’t be a bad thing. I was getting awfully close to giving up for a few days as I am another perfectionist. I don’t cope well with failure and hunger and feeling hopeless are not a good combination. The wonderful success I had in Feb carried me through easily but stress and menopause related hormones stopping weightloss this month make carrying on the same way too difficult. I still ate just in a 20:4 window so two goood long fast periods outside the window to get all the other health benefits even if the weight loss continues to elude me.
@jarbia it is so frustrating especially if you are trying hard and not seeing a change. My weightloss has not been linear amd there have been a couple of months when I have only lost 2/3 lbs. The fact that you are so close to goal means it must be harder to lose the final few pounds. Maybe keep a really close watch on NFDs and check what you are eating and reduce refined carbs if that could be a problem. The other thing is to add a third fast just for a while until you can work out what looks like maintenance. Above all keep going. You are nearly there. Good luck!
Day 17 – Switzerland – NFD
Managed my change in FD routine yesterday, although I was a bit worried, it was fine.
@monkeydo, @Michelas – Great to hear this is working well for you!
@johnnyr – ouch!
@ciren2 – all manner of good vibes heading your way. Only you know what is helping and what isn’t. I was so impressed over the summer last year – you were really in tune with what your body needed. Agree with advice on taking small steps and being kind to yourself – maybe just logging everything would help restore the balance, and take it from there?
Day 17 – NL – NFD 67.7kg
@at – the coming 4 days I won’t be able to sign in. Could you please make the next entries for me: day 18: NFD, day 19: NFD, day 20: FD, day 21: FD
Have a great weekend everyone!
Day 17 Portugal FD
Happy St Patrick’s Day! My kids reckon that, even though we live in Portugal, they should be allowed off school to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
Yesterday was a horrible day … I broke a tooth (which had previously, 13 years ago, been restored after I cracked it). Anyway I hate going to dentist but I did and the only option is to extract and have an implant. I was not happy to hear this news. Thenas I was reaching to plug in the iron somehow I twisted my back and my lower back is in pain. I had a bit of a crisis last night as I began to feel like I was getting old and falling apart and I’m only 46.
On a positive note, I did not feel like eating too much yesterday so came in below the tdee. Not sure who’s fasting today, but let’s make it count.
Day 17: Glasgow, Scotland. NFD.
Had a good fast day yesterday, until around 7pm, which found me practically weeping outside my own refrigerator door…desperate to just open the door and SNACK! (Fought it off – but I think I went over the 500 throughout the day). Same problem as before – not eating enough on my NFD, so getting up and feeling ravenous on the early morning of the FD. So, I’ve been focussing on getting organised for my FDs, but I think I need to get a little more organised about what I’m going to eat on the NFDs as well. (What, I suppose, people mean by ‘mindful eating’? Planning, preparing and enjoying all food…only eating when hungry, and eating well)
Day 17, London, UK, NFD
Well……………..I completed my b2b2b (with 10,000 steps each day!!) and broke my 3 day fast with a mocha this morning……….MMmmhhhh!!!
For the three days I averaged 600cals/day, unplanned, but at least it wasn’t 1200cals!!! I found the b2b2b got easier the further it progressed and has set me up for a mindful weekend, I’ll be so busy today that a CD is a given!!
@beverley8603 – I’m with you on the squidgy tummy, my pooch has deflated after my b2b2b so I’m massaging in the aloe vera, vitamin E oil and MSM at every opportunity!!!
@lynzm, I bought myself a beautiful plastic (BPA free) water bottle which now never leaves my side, it allows me to keep track (750ml each time) of how close to my 3L target I am. I make sure I finish one bottle upon waking; I chuck a frozen lemon cube into the 2nd one which I finish by about 10am, 3rd by 3pm and the last one by 8pm (preferably earlier to avoid the midnight loo-dash!!). I used to set an alarm on my phone to remind me, but it’s become habit now!!! So……..maybe you could try keeping it close to hand always and set a reminder to drink until you form the habit!!
@johnnyr, I guess you’ll just have to suck the other thumb ’til that one heals!!!
To those struggling, particularly those who’ve fallen off a previously successful full throttle wagon (not sure wagons have throttles!!!)……. How about re-reading your previous posts, there’s nothing more inspirational than your own positive words and remembering how you felt after that Xlb loss etc!!! You have to cling on for dear life once you’re on that wagon and stop self-sabotaging ………..embrace the hunger!!!! You KNOW this works!!! Good vibes & luck heading your way!!!
Good luck everyone, although the scales may not be kind…….do you feel better, are the inches falling away, have you had to make a new hole in your belt??……..perspective people!!! Keep the faith
Day 17 Belfast NFD
DAY 18 NFD
DAY 19 NFD
Another sugar fest yesterday. 😪 Once I started I couldn’t stop! Oh well, today’s a new day.
@Lany I feel like you. I’ve been doing b2bs with not much success. I think I’ll give ADF a go when I get back. As dykask says, mixing it up might just kick start a bigger loss.
Congrats monkey do and Micheleas. Those moments are so motivational! Still waiting for mine!
Hang in there Jarbia. I only want to lose another 7lb or so and am stuck too. Together we can do this!
@dykask your knowledge is AWESOME! Your user name should be ‘boffin’!
Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!🍀💚
Day 17, Newcastle UK, NFD
Enjoyed a meal out with OH and friends last night – only one course and made a good choice. Had a few drinks and enjoyed them because they were part of a social event and not just mindless consumption. Today will be a very controlled NFD as no doubt I went over TDEE yesterday and need to counteract that fast.
@ciren2 – you have so much support willing you to succeed – keep plugging away and you will succeed.
@bert1802 – hope you caught your flight, arrived safely and enjoy your time with your Mum and sister. Having looked after my Mother in Law through her dementia, I know how difficult it is to cope with.
@quebecoise and Emme1956 – good planning!!
@lany36 – all I can suggest is that whatever timeframe you give yourself to eat in – at the end of the day calories do count. Whilst I appreciate all the different opinions on whether or not to count calories, it is always worthwhile having the occasional check to ensure you are not overdoing them if you are struggling to see results.
@monkeydo & @sarah57 – congratulations – great and inspiring results. And well done to you too @mrsgettingthere.
@jarbia – maybe experiment with the types of food you are eating. We are all different and maybe your metabolism will react differently if you experiment with food combinations.
@erika45 – you certainly had ‘one of those days!’ Hope today goes smoothly for you.
@fatrabbit – I feel your frustration. Hopefully there might be some helpful tips in the 5:2 update in the Mail’s You Magazine this weekend.
@jojo58 – yes I’m happy and well thanks and glad to hear you are too.
As I say to my OH when I see him spiralling into a black mood about something ‘Flick the Switch!’ Don’t let the negativity a chance to affect your attitude. Have a good St. Patrick’s day folks.
In spite of 4 FDs this week I’m slightly up on last week. A wee bit fed up with that, but I too have been hitting the exercise and my scales show I’ve lost fat mass and gained skeletal muscle. I also think some of it is water retention which as others write can be down to what you eat (some carbs). As it’s really hard to put on fat weight when you’re burning more cals than you ingest.
It may be only a 1.6% gain in muscle, but that’s probably quite a lot of extra muscle. And the theory goes that the more muscle you have, the more cals you can burn. So don’t despair! I’m expecting a dip next week, and possibly the week after. It ain’t a smooth ride this, but stick to it and the long term trend has to be down (unless I end up building muscle to the extent I look like Arnie or Jean-Claude in their prime! – which is highly unlikely based on past evidence) 🙂
Day 17 UK FD
Yay – Friday! Happy St Pats day to those descending from the Emerald Isle. We’re all Irish deep down today aren’t we?
So it’s a couple of pints of Guiness for me later (about a days worth or calories) and a blast of The Pogues (especially the Youtube of the scene from ‘The Wire’ when they play “Body of an American”. Also The Dubliners singing ‘Fields of Athenry’ brings a tear to the eye.
Happy fasting too. Stay strong and remind yourself that you are taking action. The majority of people aren’t. So we are all impressive, even if there are ups and downs.
Surrey, UK
Sorry I’ve lost track of what I have and haven’t posted as been v busy at work + had a bad cold so spent a lot of last few days sleeping when got the chance. But I think I owe you these posts:
Day 14 FD
Days 15 & 16 NFD
Day 17 FD
Very pleased that I completed a B2B at the first attempt. It was a lot easier than I anticipated (not saying it was easy – just easier!!) Rounding off week with another FD today. Hopefully this will set me up well for an enjoyable weekend. Fasting when ill is interesting – on the one hand I don’t have much appetite so that makes it easier but on the other I do feel a lot weaker than I usually do on a FD.
Best wishes to all around the globe. 🙂
3rd post – still fasting. Past suppertime, soon sleep then I get to enjoy a NFD.
The higher fiber has had a couple impacts.
–> Not constipated. 🙂
–> I haven’t experienced any hunger waves this fast and that is a first for me. There is just a normal kind of empty feeling but not really hunger. I did feel some hunger when I first woke up, but it might have just been thirst and it went away quickly.
My weight though is higher but it seems like I might be losing weight faster this fast than what I normally do. I won’t know until morning, but I also started this fast about 600g heavier. Finally my activity tracker is showing a couple hundred more calories at this point than is typical. Maybe I’ve been more active, hard to tell. However I feel fine.
I’m pretty sure pushing on fiber caused higher weight, at least short-term. I’m okay with that as I’m mostly interested in getting rid of the fat quilt over my abs. When my abs show I’m going to call it good. Probably months to go, maybe more than a year. At that point I’ll be happy even if I weigh more than I do now. This month I’ve started seeing a vein over my biceps, that is new so I know the fat is thinning. It is important to me to claim what victories I can.
@debster251 – Thank you! Most of the time I just try to avoid talking about things I don’t have much knowledge about. There are a LOT of those areas! 🙂
Day 17 Melbourne NFD
@ciren2 and @lany36, @jarbia and others in a slow patch: whatever you do, don’t give up as you are benefiting from your efforts, health-wise. I support some of the suggestions above – try something different to shake things up – ADF or B2B or LCHF or cut out starchy foods – anything different to whatever you are currently doing, just for a week, to see if you can give your metabolism a wake-up call.
Best of weekends to All.
Day 17 London NFD
Hi All, it’s Friday again!
I am determined to have a much more mindful weekend than the last one, so am planning a FD tomorrow and no jumping off the wagon!
I picked up some konjac noodles this week and planning to try a new recipe this weekend – probably a veg stirfry or miso soup type thing.
Has anyone got any top tips for staying in the right mindset over the weekend? I struggled so badly last weekend! I think because I associate the weekend with relaxing and usually end up drinking wine… so a FD over the weekend is exactly the challenge I need.
Anyway, for starters I am planning to:
– Have an aeropress coffee first thing to get myself in “The Zone”!
– Then check the latest forum posts to remind myself that we’re all doing this together and review my progress so far
– Plan healthy, enjoyable meals for Sat and Sunday
– Do some form of exercise on both Saturday and Sunday (bodypump and LBT classes already booked)
– Avoid Alcohol and get good sleeps on both Friday and Saturday night to avoid tiredness and associated mindless eating
– Ask OH to hide all temptation/treats – so I don’t need to challenge my will power!
@lorky35 Love the slashing tyres analogy! I am writing all these helpful hints down in my pink notebook to keep on had through the weekend!
@ciren2 – don’t be so hard on yourself. Today is a new day.
Maybe it’s worth switching it up and trying a few different regimes on a FD? e.g. 2 small meals v 1 meal? I like to be a little hungry at bedtime on a FD and 2 small meals work well for me.
I also wonder if you are getting enough protein? That really helps to fill me up on NFDs and FDs as well as having a plan in advance for all my meals.
Congrats to @micheleas for reach goal weight! I agree its so hard to lose it when you only have a little to lose, it’s like your body holds on to every single lb! I am on my last kg and it’s really slow going…but I’m confident I will get there slowly but surely.
Happy St Patricks Day everyone!
Day 17 – USA (Illinois) – NFD
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone. Gotta find a green t-shirt to wear to Silver Sneakers exercise class this morning! We in America claim some Irish even if we are none just so we can eat and celebrate. I am about 1/8 Irish from my mother.
Weight still holding at 159-160. And yes, @lindasue, you and I know avoiding wrinkles is ever so important! It seems to me a few pounds could indeed make a difference. You still do 2 FD’s a week? I’m doing maintenance at 6:1, and it’s working for me. I must be very careful to adhere to TDEE or under on NFD’s though.
@fatteacher – we will be here for you. I’m a retired music teacher, and there are others here as well. @at is our fearless leader, and we do require daily check ins with us, state like my top line indicating FD (Fast Day) or NFD (Non-Fast Day). Some of us also use CD to remind us that NFD’s are really Controlled Days. We encourage you to use the tabs above all of this (resources) to determine your BMI, TDEE, and any other tracking places you choose for weight and measurements.
Onward and downward!
Day 14 -FD
Day 15 -FD
Day 16 – FD
Day 17 – FD – USA, PA
Weigh in 170 lbs.
Good Day All,
I’ve lost 11 lbs. since the beginning of the month.😊
✨Thank-you so much to our group and @at . I wouldn’t be as motivated and as consistent without you!🌈
@johnnyr Sorry to hear about your thumb. Hope it is starting to feel better and heal. You have inspired me to go for the 4th fasting day this week. I’ve done 4 in a week, but never in a row. I know a lot of detoxing and strengthening of the immune system starts on the 3rd day. So I decided to go ahead and make it another day of immune system strengthening. Oh and losing more weight is a plus. Your idea of keeping soup around is great after the fasting. I make chicken soup with broth and bone broth in our slow cooker. If I have a whole chicken I use that for the bones for bone broth. I also add vegs. Cabbage, celery, tomatoes. I also will try the soup for Saturday to keep my NFD below 1,000 calories. Something warm usually helps. I am looking forward to a strip steak salad @ 500 cals. For Saturday 😊But enough about food…
@lorky35. Thank-you for your positive thoughts. I have already used them today and they have helped. I’ll continue to use them today😊🌈
Day 17 USA-WA FD
Traveling and doing a dance workshop this weekend, so I’m setting an intention to stay with the plan and eat mindfully. I’ve been trying out ADF and, so far, I find I really like this approach, so I’m going to go with it for awhile (unless it starts to fall apart!). I like feeling lighter!
Day 17, Canada FD. Happy St Patrick’s Day!
@goldensun – well done for you! I have yet to attempt a liquid only FD. I am feeling amazing now on 5th day FD, but must admit that I ate up to the new 800cal guideline on day 3. I do like having that leeway to eat a bit more and still feel I haven’t blown the FD. Will see how the NFD weekend goes and I may repeat the pattern next week.
@Michaelas,@Strawberries really inspiring to read how you are doing.
@erika wow, too much bad stuff in one day. Hope you will be out of pain soon.
Day 17 Maine NFD
Well, had a pretty good fast day – had an extra chicken wing, so figured in about 600 calories. Did not weigh before fast – probably should have – had pizza….consequently, weighing this morning & up 1/2 a pound. That’s ok – it’s been a major challenge on vacation, but so much better than any other vacation. I know I can do better & will be mindful today. I’ll skip the Irish bread & focus on the cabbage!
@okeydokey – wow, congrats! You’re an inspiration!
@johnnyr – ouch! Sorry about your thumb, but lol!!
Happy St. Patty’s Day all – Irish or just Irish in spirit – make it a great day!!
Day17 — NFD– Norfolk, Virginia
Good morning fasters, happy saint Patrick’s day to those who celebrate it!
I’ve had two fds this week, same as last week and the week before, I must be doing something wrong, my weight is the same, I eat less than my tdee on my nfds and up to 500 on my fds, even stopped putting sugar in my coffee on fds and stick with it through nfds, drink 60 to 80 oz of water and eat more greens. Maybe the 5:2 isn’t going to work for me? I just refuse to believe this works for so many people but me. I’ll keep fasting until the end of the month because I’m not a quitter, all your support and success stories keep me going so thank you all.
Good fasting!
Day 17 NFD Wisconsin, USA
On Mondays and Thursdays I weigh and measure for the week, but this morning, I wanted to step on the scale to see if yesterday’s unexpected fast day had an effect. I’m now in the 180’s at 189.6. That’s almost another 2 pounds loss from yesterday, and almost 6 pounds since Monday. I know that number most likely won’t stick around with today’s events, although if I can keep Saturday and Sunday well contained, maybe …. But the big thing is, I haven’t seen the 180’s since stepping on the scale in January and having a shock at seeing my number at 200.4. I haven’t been over 200 since a very depressed period in my life, with three small kids and a shit of a (now) ex. To see that 180’s number …. it’s exciting, and motivating!!!
Today is traditionally a heavy drinking and eating day, but for the first time in awhile … I don’t want to drink. I want to keep this weight loss and healthy lifestyle going. This isn’t like enjoying a single glass of wine, this is shots of whiskey and shenanigans. I’m going to eat a small breakfast (probably avocado on toast), and then a big salad with chicken for dinner before heading into work, and I’m going to try to minimize the damage by drinking only when I “have” to (when a customer buys a shot”, making my own mix to drink from, and drinking a ton of water. Far cry from previous years, but hey. I need to stick on this journey.
@sarah57 – Congrats on the weight loss! Very very inspiring! Only 15 to go … that’s so much more doable than 45, hey?
@monkeydo – Congrats on being in the 70s!!! I just wrote about seeing that number that you haven’t seen in awhile. What a GREAT feeling! Yay for your accomplishment!
@jojo58 – “Hope everyone is well and more important, happy.” I love that – thank you.
@Beverly8603 – Yay for seeing changes in your face! How wonderful! I *swear* my face looks thinner, but after only 6 pounds loss, probably not, lol …
@fayefaye – Those sound like excellent ideas for trying a FD on a weekend. I hope your OH understands what you’re trying to accomplish and helps you and doesn’t tempt you, lol. Yesterday I got the kids McDonalds for a treat and one son was all, “Try a fry, mom, they are delicious”, “No, kiddo, I’m fasting today, I can’t have one of those”, “C’mom, mom, just one will be fine, they are so good!” ARGH kid … But I didn’t have a fry. Or any of the buttered popcorn I made them during our movie – I stuck to plain air-popped. Buttered popcorn is one of my downfalls, so that’s a mini-proud moment as well.
@johnnyr – Thumb ring for your keys had me laughing out loud. OUCH!
Good luck to everyone today on their journey, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!
Day 17 – FD – USA, PA
I made my goal weight of losing more than 10lbs. This month😊 I went from 181 lbs. to 170 lbs
82.1 to 77.2kgs

@fatteacher Welcome! Please feel comfortable in checking in with us. We usually post Day of for the day of the month we are fasting. Today would be Day 17 – Country, State you live in – either FD or NFD ✨I am interested in how you decided to join the 5:2 fasting group😊
@cboz – For the feeling of the fermenting issue. Do you take probiotics? Or drink Kefir? That would help with that. I take a couple probiotics in the morning and before the time of a meal and it stops hunger. The probiotics neutralize the Ghrelin that causes stomach ache and pain. The “fermenting” is an indication of yeast. Probiotics help with that. Only if your interested.
@gopackgo You are doing 👏 awesome. I loved how your day turned into a FD. I don’t think that would happen for me. I have to think FD, even on NFD to keep controlled day.
Thank-you! @scs Hope you day goes well!👍
Hi @nella Jimenez
Just to say I was also where you are for weeks – doing everything right but just staying the same weight wise and feeling a bit demotivated. I would say check your measurements – waist, hips etc because although my weight was the same the inches were dropping off which is what I was actually bothered about. Also, in the last week or so the weight has started to come off again – just a little bit but still coming off.
Best wishes.
Day 17 – USA – NFD
Successful fast day yesterday. @Strawberriesandcream, I can’t thank you enough for referring the Butter Bob videos. They were much easier to “digest”, as opposed to a lot of the scientific-based jargon you find on other videos. I loved the one about going through Walmart and seeing what you could eat on a LCHF lifestyle. Thanks again! @NellaJiminez and @jarbia, perhaps mixing up your routine could help awaken your fat-burning machine, by maybe lowering carbs and lessening or eradicating sugar? @flourbaby, great advice about reading your own history, thank you! @erika45, hope your back is feeling better.
Day17-FD-NY, USA
I’ve decided, the scale is not my friend; it’s a “frenemy”. You know, that person that acts like a friend, and looks like a friend, but when you take a step back and look at your relationship you realize they’re kinda mean and not your friend? Ok that’s a lot of importance to give to an inanimate object but I find it helps keep things in perspective. I won’t throw my scale away but it’s not the be-all, end-all. It doesn’t tell the whole story.
Day 17 – SW WA USA – NFD
Checking in. Will catch up on posts that came in overnight.
St. Patrick’s Day in the USA today so need to wear green. I slipped on the school t-shirt this morning & it fits. Layering it with a long sleeved top because it’s kind of cool still but pleased that instead of looking like a stuffed sausage, it looks okay.
Have a great Friday!
Day 17, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I will be eating and drinking until the cows come home!
Tomorrow is another day and I will be serious about 5:2 again. I am traveling for 6 weeks in exactly a month from today, Easter Monday, and I gain a pound a week doing this, so, I better get on the wagon again before I put another 6 pounds on.
All the best to all of you!!! 🍀🍀🍀
Day 17, Oceanside CA, NFD 151.4 lbs
Only one pound from goal. May need new goal!
Walking 5 to 6 miles today on beach. Make hay while the sun shines.
Making corned beef with vegetable dinner for St. Patrick’s Day. DH and I are Irish (him more than me). DH weighed 219 lbs today. He is so psyched. 20 plus pounds gone. Reducing belly good for his back. He says he could not have done it alone. Nice to be appreciated. LOL
Well off for the day. Two more weekend NFD’s ahead.
