@ciren2 – have you read the posts directed at you, not only from me but others?
Sorry Coda, I just did. I was at the dentist.
Yes, I know I’m hard on myself….I’m a perfectionist….anything less than going to bed hungry after a FD is not a complete success for me.
However, I DO know that 21 hours (up to 3.30) is not too bad…the trouble is I then eat MORE than 500 cals….(possibly 1000, I never count) enough to FILL me UP!
If I saw a drop on the scales, everything would change, but I know that isn’t happening right now.
I will keep eating mindfully for now, until I can do better.
Thanks for listening.
Day 16 UK FD
Another replacement fast day as I messed yesterday up too. It has not been a good week, and yesterday was a very stressful day. The trees that came down in the storm were cleared along with a few more that were dangerous. We did a fund raiser to pay for it, and people were very generous. It was in the local paper too. But I hate the sound of saws and don’t cope well with workmen. Daft I know, but I get very anxious. I also went to the dentist for the first time in years, which was a bit challenging. Why do things always end up falling on the same day? I went as far as asking my son to go and buy me chocolate last night, but luckily he is lazy wotsit and wouldn’t. So the failure wasn’t as bad as it could have been if there had been any naughty food in the house. I only ended up having an extra bowl of sweet potato curry.
Today I feel much better that the whole tree ordeal is over. I am trying not to think about the tooth that is supposed to be extracted in two weeks, but it seems further away today. I did eat a bowl of chili earlier but have enough calories in hand for a salad later if I need it, especially according to the new rules. In fact yesterday might even have squeaked in as a success by that measure. In which case I will be ahead, which is a better place to be.
@ciren2 – why not actually plan a fast lasting 21 hours – have a nice 500 calorie meal ready and waiting you could put off as long as you can knowing it is there for you and apart from asking your dentist to wire your mouth shut ha ha plan then for something nice – a warm bath an early night with a good book, paint your nails, face pack or do all? Planing is the key I think. Then a nfd the next day and do the same for the next few fast days. Don’t think of anything more than that. Don’t weigh either, you will know yourself how you feel. Get a piece of clothing that may be just on the tight side and use that. No point in using a piece of equipment that has an adverse effect. Take the pressure of yourself cus the only one that is hurting is you. I haven’t read this article but maybe there is something in it that will help.

✨6NFD : 10FD ✨😊
Happy NFD and FD to all!
Hey All,
Hope your day is going great.
@gopackgo Congratulations✨ on your great fast day✨ I ordered the Caramel tea, looking forward to it!
The lemon 🍋 water and Stevia worked for me last night. Mainly because I wasn’t as nervous about OH so I actually drank it.😊I made it through another FD! Woohoo!
@moggie I use the Lose it app also to keep track of my calories😊
@dykask I have read about the benefits of no sugar and no protein on fasting days. That’s why I strive to not eat at all and stick with no calorie waters teas and coffees. Very small broth in evening if I have to. ✨Actually it takes more discipline and patience for me to eat a little then to just not have to eat and not have to worry about measuring on my FD’s. I realize I’m going to have to burn off any sugar or protein before my body will burn off Lyme disease (that I have) plaques causing heart issues and high blood pressure. There is a lot of information that has been documented. That has convinced me of the benefits of complete fasting. Thank-you for posting the information on HGH, insulin resistance and fasting. I’m in physical therapy for my cracked Tibia, Brocken leg but I am able walk @7,000 steps daily. I find that once the fat burning kicks in. I feel fine…Thanks for reminding about the benefits ✨I’m on my 3rd day fast B2B2B. Last weekend I fasted both Sat.&Sun. So for this month I’ve been working on 3NFD: 4FD. I just saw a Ted Talk from Mark Mattson from the National institute on aging sponsored by Johns Hopkins University about how fasting bolsters more brain power.
The reality is whatever we eat we have to burn off. That will either take time, or more activity. Either way for weight loss it will work. Because of my hurt leg it probably wouldn’t work as well for me if I didn’t do the 3NFD: 4FD
Some of us it’s about being healthy and not falling into getting older and having more medical problems.✨
✨✨Stay motivated Stay strong✨✨Together we are Stronger✨✨
@flourbaby Thanks✨your so helpful. I will look online and see if I can find magnesium oil!
I Love all the posts…still reading 😊I will get through them this afternoon. It’s 3/16 @ 1:44 pm here now.😊

Hi @coda
I hope you are having a great NFD. Thanks for sharing your experience. Good to know that it’s possible to have HIIT daily.
Coda:
Thanks for the link; much of it rings SO true, I am a perfectionist, guilty of “black and white thinking”. Setting myself standards that are “too high”. How come everybody else on this site can fast successfully? There I go again. I depresses me but I’ve overcome it before.
So I will just keep trying.
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. xx
Day 14 UK FD
Day 15 FD
Day 16 FD
All well. Very busy with work. Finding 600-700 Kcals manageable. Trying to stick to the 600, but strayed a bit twice this week. However I have notched the exercise up, so +200 kcals isn’t a disaster.
One last FD tomorrow, and hoping for a more controlled exit than last week when I break! I may buy some soup to make sure I fill myself up with that… or not 🙂
Only other thing to report is that I’ve managed to drill through my thumb last Sunday. Missed the bone thank God! but it’s pretty spectacular for a DIY injury. The drill bit snapped and led to a pretty painful end to the refurb of a Rabbit hutch. Mid you if I’d lost my thumb, that’d have been another few grams of weight I guess!
Take care fasters, well done all round if you’re sticking with this month. Over halfway now.
Positive thoughts that help me on a fast day: (especially when I’m feeling tempted and deprived!)
1) yes, I do want to eat (fill in the blank). I’ll eat it tomorrow if I want to. (Note: I usually don’t)
2) yes, I do want to eat (fill in the blank) RIGHT NOW! But you know what? That food won’t compare to, (smaller size, looking better in (fill in the blank), whatever I’ve been putting off because I’m uncomfortable at the weight I’m at)
And lastly, I read somewhere, “what do you do if you get a flat tire?” You fix it right? You do not slash your remaining 3 tires!!! So, if you fail or make a mistake, pick yourself up and get going again. Everyone has bumps in the road. Keep going!!!
@ciren2
In answer to your question ‘How come everyone else on this site can fast successfully?’, they don’t! Lots of people have posted about falling off the wagon, changing FDs in NFDs, but you are entirely focused on your own shortcomings and have read selectively about others’ successes and failures. Be kind to yourself. Coda’s advice is so sensible. Change the goalposts. Rather than setting yourself up to fail, set a small goal you can achieve. Small steps. Xx
Day 17/NFD/Aus
Must have unclicked the notify me box. I find it easier keeping up with posts via email. I’m currently keeping busy doing a course on Food as Medicine through Monash University. Hopefully, I’ll find time in between reading to catch up on posts.
Today would normally be a FD but I intend keeping my options open.
Happy St Patrick’s Day to all who are celebrating.
Day 16, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD
NFD big time – just back from a committee meeting preceded by the lunch buffet at Pizza Hut !!!!!!
Today’s weight 143.2, under goal weight of 145.
Going to try eating a little more, two people told me I was looking a little thin in the face. That’s not good. I think 145-147 might be a better weight. We shall see. I don’t want to give up my M-W fasting days as I like the break it gives my body from having to be constantly digesting and processing food – so I guess I will just have to eat more (healthy) foods on my NFDays.
Off to exercise, to your health all.
Day 17 – Queensland, Australia – NFD
Starting weight: 51.5 kg
Goal weight: 50 kg
Today’s weight: 49.9 kg
Very pleased with today’s weight. That’s my goal achieved. I know I didn’t have much to lose, but the last kg or 2 is usually really hard to drop, often taking more than a month of calorie restriction.
I may do one more week of 5:2, then drop back to 6:1 for maintenance. This is very exciting!
Good luck to anyone fasting today!

Day 16 – FD – USA, PA
✨✨Your great because your trying!✨✨🌈
@ciren2 You said, “Day 15: Gloucestershire, UK: Another FD turned NFD. I lasted til 3.30 this time! I was about 21 hours since I last ate though. I wish I could do a PROPER fast-day, even so.” That’s pretty darn close to a FD! Look at your success’s and build on them. Do you walk a lot during the day for your job? That could be why fasting for you might be different. If your walking during the day and you haven’t eaten for 21 hours. Your already burning fat. 21 hours is so close, give yourself some credit where credit is due👍
@lynzm You said, ” So worth remembering carb overload for me results in hunger and sleeplessness.” I agree😊That’s worth me remembering also, and unless I’m burning off a lot of calories. It prevents me from losing weight.😏

Day 16 – FD -USA
@fatrabbit kudos to you! There is no way I could go to the dentist and have a FD! Maybe after the work was done. I have put off going to the dentist and orthodontist for surgery; a root canal gone bad; tooth extraction. They also want to put posts in my gums for new teeth. It scares the crap out of me. I also have high sensitivity to sound so Congratulations on making it through that day of loud aggravating sounds 🎉You survived it🎉 FD or NFD. Sometimes chocolate is just necessary 😊
@at, just to clarify, day 16 was a NFD for me, sorry if I got this wrong. Just an honorary pocketeer today, but cheering just as loudly!
In case I don’t get to check in tomorrow morning:
Day 16 / UK / NFD
Day 17 / UK / FD
I have a hunch that whenever I go to bed with a slight sense of hunger, the scales will be friendly the next morning. Does anyone else have a similar impression? It’s not based in evidence in any way for me, purely anecdotal. Won’t be my feeling tonight though. Not only did I make delicious risotto, it was also a lesson in cooking for 1. I may well have had a double portion based on halving the amount I usually made for the two of us… a bit sad, this. Tomorrow’s FD will sort it out I’m sure.
second post 3/16 *NFD turned into a FD* WI, USA
@okeydokey – I hope the tea helps you!
@fatrabbit – OMG, there’s no way I could even *think* about fasting on a dentist day. I had to have a broken back tooth pulled a few months ago, and I was so freaked out for it, even though it was over in like 2 minutes, when I walked out and saw my boyfriend, I just broke down and bawled. Some days it’s all just too much, and you can’t beat yourself up for the comforts you want when life truly goes crazy on you for a day. Next day, pick yourself up, brush off yesterday, and start all over.
I wrote earlier that I might see about today’s NFD turning into a FD, partly because I already know tomorrow is out the window for St Patrick’s Day (I work it, bartending), so try and compensate for a very healthy day today, possibly FD. Well, it turned into a FD. I just wasn’t hungry in the morning for a breakfast (that still amazes me, I was always a breakfast monster, but again, how much was *habit* vs actual hunger and need?), and went out to run a million errands, armed with a ton of water. I put on 10,000 steps by 2:00, picked up the kids, came home, and yep, by that time I was starving. Made a veggie/chicken/tofu noodle soup, I was full after slowly enjoying half of the pot, which was around 240ish calories. Also ate two fresh mozzarella pearls with balsamic. I still have calories left and I’m looking forward to fresh strawberries with goat cheese and that fig balsamic, maybe some air-popped popcorn. We’ll see. But I’ll be under or right around 500 cals for the day, and I’m stoked about it. Feeling so wonderful!
Oh, I swung in a Half Price Books store and picked up two 5:2 recipe books.
@ciren2 you are not the only one at all, as @debster251 has pointed out, it just seems like that to you. Me personally, I have gone backwards since that new low was achieved. This month with being away the first 3 days I have struggled to get into a routine of fast days. Nfd’s and a few cd’s were the norm after I came home. This week has been better but I am a creature of habit and it doesn’t take much to throw me off my routine aka wagon. Ended up not doing a fd today and have had urges all week for a packet of lions midget gems with liquorice black ones so I gave in and had them. Will they help me get to my goal – nope! Will I beat myself up – nope. My choice I have to accept the consequences. I will just keep on keeping on. Tomorrow is another day! Be kind to yourself, you deserve it, just believe it! I mean really believe it!!!! x
*third post*
Thoughts about when it’s all too much and you dive into food – as women, we deal with that even more. There are days where your hormones just get the best of you and you’re crabby, achy, and your body physically craves things – carbs, chocolate, whatever it may be.
Don’t beat yourself up about those days. Some chocolate, some ice cream, some mashed potatoes … if it’s a true craving and it’s one of *those* days, it’s best to just give in, lol. Treat yourself kindly and indulge a bit. The next day, when those hormones subside (hopefully), you can curse what womanhood does to us, and move on.
I’ve had times where I’m tearing apart a bag of Ghirardelli chocolate because I need chocolate something fierce … and the next day, AH. That’s why I was crying 5 times at commercials, cried because I burned dinner, yelled at the kids, and ate a bag of chocolate chips. A little less food the next day, a little more exercise, and it will balance out.
Day 17 – Tokyo, Japan – FD 82kg
So my experiment seems to have pushed up my weight more than normal. It be interesting to see what happens over the fast. This more I woke up with some hunger which is unusual for me, however it has settled down and I feel fine now. I’ll see how it goes.
My experiment this weeks is I tried to increase the fiber content of my diet by about 50%. Basically trying to push my daily intake up over 50g of fiber. It actually took some effort to do it.
@ciren2 – just something else I thought of as I turned off the light. If I offered you a million £’s to complete a fast day do you think you could? Sadly I can’t lol but I want you to think of that thought – if I was being offered a million quid could I keep going?
Day 15. Québec. FD
As I said earlier, even if I’m not posting I’m in it with the group. Plus I fast on Monday and Thursday.
Today started as a great FD. However, many camper were having a cocktail around sunset and I fell in the temptation. Not to disappointed at myself, i’m on vacation after all !
I made a deal with myself : during my trip I must not go over 134 pounds, wich gives me 4 pounds to manoeuvre. That way I know that I will be able to start over more seriously this WOL when I come back home and go on loosing Weight.
Good night everyone x
Day 17 FD NZ
Day 16 FD until about 8.30pm then went over by probably 500cals!!! I’m taking comfort in a 24hour fast that fit in before but anyway….
So today is another successful fast so far, I felt so much better last week doing 20:4 with no calories counted or restricted in the 4hour period
I have been browsing Jason Fung info online and wonder if I might be better suited to a daily 20:4 type situation than two 36hours each week, as I haven’t lost anything in ages and I’ve been at this for months.
Does anyone have any thoughts about this approach?
@lany36 – Sometime changing the routine is effective. That is the great thing about fasting, it is flexible. Personally I enjoy the NFDs but I have little doubt that 20:4 pattern works well for some people. The main objection I have for myself is I don’t really like felling stuffed and I would probably end up eating until I was stuffed. However that is just me.
Day 17 UK NFD (yay!)
1lb down this week which means in line with my new strategy I don’t have to fast an extra day today. Thank goodness – this week has been hard with 3 fast days mainly undoing the work of last weekend.
32lb off, (4lbs off in March) 15lbs to go, aiming to do that by my birthday in 13 weeks time. Bmi now 25.8. Feels so good to be in the 25s, was in the 30s when I started last September. Phew it is amazing how much better a single pound off makes you feel.
Have a good day everyone and if you are weighing today, hope your scales play nicely.
Day 17 Australia NFD
SO EXCITED! I MADE IT TO THE 70s
79.5kgs today
First time I’ve seen a 7 in about a long time (can’t even remember) so this is a major achievement.
Thanks to Dr Moseley and co and all the peeps on here who keep it going.
I don’t have a great deal of time to write on here most days, but I do appreciate this group and the forum in general and love being part of it.
Only 6.5kgs more to get to goal and it feels very doable.
Now to get that exercise situation really happening too.
🙂
DAY 17 – UK – NFD
HELP!!!!!!
Disappointingly my under 10stone milestone hasn’t lasted long and I am over again! (by 1/2 lb). Don’t know what I’m doing wrong, as I havent lost more than 1lb in 6 weeks, despite fd’s and eating to tdee. I seem to have come to a full stop after a fruitful 8 lb loss in January. I only have another 7lb to lose (ideally) – I wonder if this is the reason. I am determined not to give up, but wish I could crack the code. I don’t want to do b2b’s as it doesn’t suit me. I also walk/run several times a week.
Ideas anyone?? Desperate from Bucks.
My FD is going well. While I had some hunger in the morning, my hunger has stayed mild. It is hard to say how the extra fiber will impact my weight longer term, but short term my weight is higher but dropping maybe a little faster than normal.
About 16 hours to go until I eat.
@jarbia – There are a lot of things involved in weight and it can change a lot even over one day. Hydration levels typically cause big swings in one’s weight and even what is in one’s gut can change the weight on the scale. I’ve often seen my weight swing 3 to 5 lbs in the course of 24 hours, especially when I have a hard workout.
Early this month I wasn’t have any probably staying below 80kg (176 lbs) and this morning my weight was (82kg) 180 lbs. It is possible I be lower than 80kg in the morning because I’m fasting today.
The thing to do is to measure yourself with a cloth tape and/or measure you body fat percentage. Have you put on fat? Weight itself doesn’t tell the whole story.
