Day 14, Newcastle UK, FD
Good NFD yesterday – with a little effort it could easily have been an FD afterall. Will try for a b2b with tomorrow. Enjoying catching up on posts and all the different opinions on various subjects. If nothing else, I’ve learnt that ‘one size fits all’ certainly does not apply to our individual experiences with 5:2. However, one thing for sure – Together we are Stronger 🙂
Day 14…..Florida…..FD
Another FD for me, my belt is open for anyone would like me to drag them through the day…. lol. Please add me to the list for today and tomorrow.
Yesterday went fairly well, no complaints!
So there is a lot of chatter about the scale. Regardless, if your a daily weigher, weekly or monthly, remember it is not the only way to measure your success! For me, I weigh daily, not because I’m obsessed but because I use it as a tool to track and find out how what I eat affects me. With that being said, when I fall into a funk, the first thing I do is stop using the scale! Each person uses differently, there no wrong way. Please just remember it’s not your only tool to measure your success.
SCS…. Buffalo is going to get some of this storm. My husband is worried they are going to cancel our flight. No worries for me, I have faith God will find us a clear path home.
AT…… I’m holding all of the fasters tight!
Okay well, I’m off work up a bit late this am, so no rest for the wicked today!
Peace be with you!
Day 14, Tuesday– Colorado, USA– FD
Feeling good this morning, which is usually tough when my alarm clock for work goes off at 4:00 AM. Must be b/c I’ve had 2 b2b days of very Controlled eating & my tummy appreciates it.
BUT I am squashing the urge to step on the scale… I’ve been a daily weigher forever, however I made a pledge to myself to concentrate on good eating & exercise habits (& avoid the scale completely) till the end of March.
Off to go hit the weights for Upper Body strength day. Then to work 12 hours.
I’ll be thinking of all you lovely people to keep me strong today!
Day 14 NFD Sydney, March 14.
Done 4 FDs, find keeping it under 500 calories easy enough – as long as I allocate enough skim milk for tea – gets me through the days. I am finding one day during the work week and Sunday works best.
@at – Thanks for checking in. So far FDs 28/2, 2/3, 7/3, 12/3.
@and…exhale – I have always been a steady 57kgs, but now in peri-menopause I find my weight fluctuates and has gone up to 59.8 without any extra eating and same exercise. Which is why I am doing the 5:2.
@skinnylove I gave up BC and lost 4kgs over the next 3 months and felt better mentally and mood wise. If that helps.
Day 14 – Chester UK -FD
Stepped on the scales and 1 lb lost since Friday, means the weekend was controlled – yay! Lots of to do or not to do on the scale issue. I used to weigh daily as I read that it was a good way to keep an average weight going and supposedly stops you getting fixated on the numbers . I can understand the theory but those days when the numbers went up would put me in a foul mood and bad moods = chocolate in my world. I tend to weigh twice a week now. Friday to see where am am and Tuesday in the hope that I’ll either be the same or less than Friday, so I know the weekend wasn’t to bad. That’s the mind game I play with myself, not sure it would work for others, but that’s what’s good about this forum, we’re all on the same journey, get healthy, stay healthy, but we’re all taking a different path to get there. I noticed a few posts back a reference to sugar free jelly. It’s a staple for me on FDs – satisfies my sweet tooth and quite filling for less than 10 calories.
Day 14 Hampshire UK – NFD
@at Thanks for your kind words.
I am feeling totally fine today so NO EXCUSE for sciving off my FD tomo! So tomo is a FD for me. Last one before I go on hols!
Good luck to everyone – may The Fast be with you!
Day 14 – USA (Illinois) – NFD
Can’t fast today, but will lose one pound. I’m giving my pint of blood, and “a pint’s a pound the world around” as we learned in school. I think I am up to 8 gallons with this blood bank but actually had already given probably 2 more gallons before at various other blood banks. I am ever so glad to be healthy enough and don’t take any meds so I can help others. My sick brother in California got quite a few units of blood from someone else, so I give here for other people’s loved ones.
@debster251 – glad you enjoyed “Ove” – that is on my huge list of books still to read. I’ve just gotten into a trilogy of tomes by Ken Follett now called the “Century Trilogy” with an incredible mix of history and intrigue.
Onward and downward!
Day 14 Maine NFD
Good morning all! Successful NFD yesterday even tho’ we did our yearly visit to all you can eat Rib nite @favorite vacation restaurant. 1 rack of ribs & roasted veggies. Good thing is we ate early, so when we got home “kitchen was closed” at 7:00 pm. Only water. Planning on another successful NFD today.
@at – if you’re updating – I’ve lost the 4 lbs I gained & now at 187.4. Can ‘ t believe I’m even putting those numbers in writing! Even hubby has no idea what that number is!
@triplet – I ‘d be sure to pack lots of different teas, low-cal soups – preferably homemade, apples & oatmeal.
@bert1802 – safe travels – should be ok by tomorrow
Day 14, Canada,FD
@johnnyr I’ll join you. I want to follow your example this week for 2:5. I need to shake up my routine as circling around the same weight for too long! I have a busy work week so lots of distractions to keep my mind off food. What is your night time routine, if hunger keeps you awake?
Hi Day 14 UK FD
Yesterdays fast went well – thought it would be to my 1/4 tdee but decided I would have a lowGI bread roll with my soup. Indulged in 2 plums and some almonds so may have gone slightly over 500?
So far so good today lots of water, 2 cups of coffee and one cup of bovril – not feeling hungry.
@hollylj and @lou Belles (welcome back) – it will come back (been there, done that) it really will. Be kind to yourself after being away or out of the swing of it all, it will take a bit of time and maybe a bit of effort to get back into the swing of it all but it will come back.
@triplet – actually sounds like a great place for fasts and good NFD’s. No temptation – what about fruit, comes in its own packaging, doesn’t need a fridge?
@lorky35 – can you start your post day ? (day of month), where you are located and if FD or NFD – thanks x. Yeah there are ways and means of cheating steps even without riding on a horse lol
@arvandee – hope you feel better soon x
@gopackgo – you can have up to 500 cals on fast day or eat up to a 1/4 of your TDEE, have you worked that out? Even those doing liquid only with bone broth and milk in coffee or tea have some calories. Only those doing water only and black tea/coffe have zero calorie days.
@hannahwatto and others – yes I am a little confused as well re this ‘new plan’. Is this 800 calories per day the blood sugar diet? This I understand (though I have been known to be wrong – lol but don’t tell my OH) is only followed for 8 weeks to kick start things along. Maybe directed at diabetic or pre diabetic people before going on to fasting? I will stick to what has been working for me and easy (ish) to live with for the foreseeable future. I feel good with what I have been doing and like fasting and the health benefits that brings. Seems they have muddied the waters somewhat.
For those contemplating longer fasts – have you read the ‘complete guide to fasting’? when I read that it really inspired me to try a long fast but I haven’t tried 5 days in a row. It is empowering and the longer you fast the easier they become, I really had to make an effort to end my fast as I still didn’t feel hungry after 3 and a bit days. But use them for re-setting bad habits or sugar cravings, I reverted back to easier fasts (well, they seemed easier after the longer fast) twice a week but would not be put off by trying a longer fast again in future if I felt the urge.
Day 14 – USA, Pennsylvania – FD
Yesterday was my first NFD and I couldn’t get to sleep until 2:00 AM, got up at 7:00 AM. So not much sleep last night.
We are having an ice storm here in PA. From what I can tell up through the north east coast. Although I don’t think it will be as rough as the weather report indicated. Roads are bad now… hoping the sun will be out later or definitely by tomorrow.
Wishing all good wishes for happy successful fasters on our Fast Days👍👏👍
@Lorkey35 Thanks for the cool 😎 and funny story. I’ve always wanted to put my Fitbit on our American Staffordshire, Sweetie, while we walk together… to see her steps✨💛
@triplet I would take enough mix of nuts like walnuts peanuts almonds, dried fruit; cranberries possibly raisins. Plenty of water and my probiotics that I take a couple or few times a day with water. Gives me plenty of energy and without the carbs doesn’t store fat. Since it’s 4 days I would add some meat jerky (beef, chicken) and a good brand of canned chicken. Can opener needed. Fruits and vegetables that will last. Possibly some cheese that might last. Just a suggestion✨
@flourbaby white light and warm Wishes for your first successful B2B. I’m fasting also: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday! ✨You can do it!✨😊We can do it✨👍
Wow so many fasters today👏More for our Pocket for Day 14👍😊

@triplet Keeping in mind the amount of trail mix not to go over the 1,000 calories (or the amount of calories you have allotted yourself per each day😊
Day 14|Toronto|CD-NFD
OK FD yesterday considering a B2B FD today but as the snow flies and the temperature remains at -15,I ponder…
To B2B FD, or not to B2B FD: that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous willpower for a 2nd day,
Or to take Calories against a Winter Blast of Cold and Snow,
And by consuming endure them? To dine and then sleep;
That current rounded flesh is heir to comfort and sloth, ’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d slim and toned with energy abound. To dine and then sleep;
To B2B FD at -15C in a blizzard: ay, there’s the rub;
With Sincere apologies to the “Immortal Bard” and all English students past, present and future

Day 14 – USA, PA – FD
@southcroydonkate Good luck to you on your fast this evening! Evidently 10 mixed nuts all roasted and salted are 85 calories. So you have a choice, either avoid them all together. Which is what I do, mostly, or calculate the allotted amount you can have on your fast day. The good news, if you are fasting and this would be closer to the 20th or 24 hour mark. Your probably burning fat, from belly and body. Unlike carbs the nuts will keep you in fat burning mode. So your body will continue burning body fat after it burns the amount of fat in the nuts. Hope this helps✨
@august2024 You really Brightened my day with your prose! Thank-you!✨
2nd post
@august2024 – as a long ago English Major, well done!! Keep us posted & keep warm!
@at – thanks for update & love today’s quote!
NFD. Syracuse, USA
Thanks for the update, @at, I was just going to ask about the updates. Question: is that 800 cal for both men and women? I’m very excited…300 extra cal. What a feast!!! I know he said no empty calories but I need to have my espresso americano everyday. I measure the half and half and sugar. I’d rather go without those food calories then without my beverage in the morning. Otherwise I’m grumpy. I’ll give up my food just not my coffee!!!!
@august2024. That is awesome. Thank you!!
Day 14 Portugal NFD
Yesterday’s FD went well, which I broke at lunch time today. NFD today going well, so far just fruit (blueberries, grapes, strawberries and half banana with yogurt and sprinkling of muesli. Trying out a slow cooker chicken curry recipe for this evening. Should come in below tdee.
@erika67 you don’t often see the “k” – it’s usually with a c. The number of times people get it wrong. There’s a story surrounding my name. My given name is Heather but I have been living in a Portuguese world (firstly BRAZIL and now Portugal) for about 17-18 years. I soon discovered in Brazil that Heather was too difficult to say, so a friend suggested Érika as an alternative – especially since Erika is the Latin/botanical name for the flower Heather. I loved it and I decided to spell it with a “k”. So to my friends and family in the English speaking world I am Heather but in my daily life previously in Brazil and now in Portugal it’s Érika to most people.
@august2024 I misspoke earlier I love your poetry! ✨We are having an ice storm here today. You made my day!✨😊
Day 14 WI, USA. NFD
@okeydokey, the stuff I drink at night if I need some help getting to sleep is by Neuro and it’s called SLEEP. I believe it’s on Amazon. One bottle is 35 calories but I only need a half bottle and within a half hour, I’m drowsy and ready to sleep. It’s amazing stuff. I feel more rested after I use it too, like my sleep was deeper (more REM sleep) and my FitBit sleep tracker proves that.
Succeeded in staying at 500 cal for my fast yesterday, even though I really really really wanted a snack at night. That’s my danger zone: I’m a single mom to three boys, so when they go to bed, I typically relish in a snack or two. I gotta stop that. 🙁
This morning … Not that hungry! Been up since 7, it’s now almost 10 and I’ve just had coffee with skim milk and fiber. I’m trying to listen to when my *body* wants food versus when I’m *supposed* to be eating, so I’m going with it.
Good luck everyone today!
Day 14 NFD St Louis USA
Weight today 145.8 down from original 148.6 but up 8 oz from my lowest post fast day which was 145. Suspect that is not unusual but was a little disappointed. Went to the Y last night and got in on half of a Zumba class and a fit for all. Aldis had hula hoops on sale and I’m thinking about trying one. I looked online but there were so many different kinds and they were kind of pricey. I see a lot of you mention hula hooping and thought it might be fun to try it. Haven’t done that since I was a teenager.
I saw the article about Dr. Mosley on the Fast Diet Facebook page. I think I will stick with the 5/2 for now. I don’t quite understand the 16:8 on NFD’s (AT’s post) but I’m just trying to keep under my TDEE on NFDs. Seems like keeping it simple is the best for me right now. I’m really grateful for the links on making bone broth and plan to try that very soon. I found an ice cream product called Arctic ice that has 35 cal and only a little sugar. I have treated myself on non-fast days.
Best of luck to all the fasters today. Will be joining you again on Thursday.
Second post. @august2024 loved your Hamlet spin! Made my day. If we can’t have some fun with this eating business, what’s the use?
@okeydokey. I read your post and you wrote ice storm and my brain read “ice cream!” Guess it’s going to be one of those days.
Day 14 – London – FD
Happy to be back firmly on the wagon after my uncontrolled weekend.
Was feeling good this morning so I’m attempting my first B2B FD today – so far so good!
@triplet – my ideas for your time away without facilities!:
Tinned Tuna, salmon, sardines, plus lemon to squeeze on top, tomatoes, apples, pears, avocado, bananas, carrots, celery, olives, miso soup, maybe pre-prepare some hard boiled eggs for the first day? And check out the health food store and find some wholefood crackers / rye bread / oat cakes if you eat that sort of thing?
Day 14 – USA – NFD
The exercise component of my 5:2 journey is going well…I’m gaining stamina on the recumbent bike, graduated to heavier weights this week and getting more rotations on hula hoop! Thank you, @at for suggestion for constipation! I’m researching LCHF (ketogenic) lifestyle and wondering if anyone here on this forum practices it? I did Atkins a decade ago for about 3 years and it seemed to be the type of eating that “clicked” for me, not only for weight loss purposes, but my numbers for all kinds of blood work were perfect — until I started carbing again. Ketogenic seems to be “Atkins tweaked”. The thing I hate about it, though, is the smell you generate…that “keto breath”.
2nd post, day 14,
Thanks @at and @okeydokey, Todays FD is going well bone broth at the ready to consume just before yoga at 6pm then I’ve a couple of soups planned for tomorrow, then depending on how quiet the tummy rumbles are, soup again or liquid only (150cals max) for Thursday. I remember the fear of b2bs during the Feb challenge………… scaredy-cat that I was, until I actually did one…………. What a breeze, now feeling the same about b2b2bs, but I need to mix things up to jump start the fat burning again!!! Maybe I should just commit to doing it????
Ok I’m on day 1 of my 3 day b2b2b………..There!!!!
@august2024…………………fantastic, you’ve given old Bill a run for his money, awaiting the next installment, perhaps Wordsworth this time
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the malted milks.
(a host of golden malted milk, this is actually my reality!!)…………………..now I’ve got floating biscuits on the brain…….….AND it’s a FD!!!!!!
Day 14 – FD – USA 🇺🇸 PA
More snow! The neighborhood is snowed in❄️
No food till 1/4 cup of chicken stock this evening.😊
Actually I feel so much better and have more reliable energy when I fast.
When I’m cutting back on food or eating more fresh whole Foods I have thought about the people on the show, Survivor. I’m guessing and hoping it is also a show in other countries, like the 🇬🇧 U.K.
When I eat a cucumber or a very small piece of meat. I think and can almost here the people on “Survivor” saying, ” I can survive till the end of the week on this! I’ll have enough energy to win the challenge.” They end up loosing a lot of weight. I certainly wouldn’t do it for 4-5 weeks at a time like them. But I can do it for a few days😊
☀️Lots of Luck to all the pocket fasters today!✨
@at,@ Okeydokey, @scs, @lorky35, @ Sirisan, @ FlourBaby: I salute with a smile and thanks.
According to Google; Henry David Thoreau said that “Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as to have friends at a distance; they make the latitudes and longitudes.”
@flourbaby: A deep Elizabethan bow of appreciation
Day 14, Rocky Mountains, US, FD
Yesterday was a new Dr. Moseley FD, but ok. Today I am almost finally back where I was on Friday morning before the horrible carb fest. I was invited not knowing that it would almost be white colored food.
Now there is St. Patrick’s coming and I am invited to a party. It is potluck luckily and not another sitdown dinner. I can choose and I will.
I will do FDs until then. Living on romaine salad and nuts.
@at, your spreadsheet is so cool.
@coda, thanks for your kind words.
@missymay, I was almost 5 pounds up from one day to another, now almost gone
@triplet, everything I wanted to wrote you has been said except bananas. They take you a long way.
All the best to all of us and Ciao from a warm Rocky Mountains.
Hihi, the snow is gone in my backyard and it is time for poop control. My pup’s secret stuff! Hihi!!! 😊🐕😊
Day 14 Florida, USA FD
Tornado warning last night, lots of rain (which we need). Turning cooler for a few days which may make FD harder. I’m in a groove now though. Had one of my usual FD breakfasts, granola with Apple and yogurt. Don’t intend to have anything but a piece of fruit until dinner time. Dinner will be flounder, zucchini, green beans, and salad. I miss wine at FD dinners but, when I was letting myself have a little, it wasn’t working. As always, good luck to all!
Day 14 – USA, PA – FD
@metatauta You mentioned constipation. A few things that have helped me.
1st option (2) 500 mg of vitamin C
2nd option; I blend (Ninja works for me) tomatoes, cucumber, sweet bell pepper. Water and Ice. Paprika a little salt and pepper. The ninja blends the vegetables and activates the enzymes which aids in indigestion in intestines also.
3rd options Kefir and or probiotics.
I broke my Tibia in May. I still have physical therapy and left knee and ankle pain. I’ve been able to walk up to 7,000 steps once. I have to put ice on it every time I exert it. Blah! That’s one reason 6 FD to 1 NFD this week works better for me for now.💛
I tend to get chilly or down right cold on a fast day. So I add a sweater. Today the weather isn’t helping with that at all. For awhile my “puppy” is like a hot water bottle snuggling on my lap keeping me warm!
Any other ideas we can share for the Pocket-Fasters in keeping warm?
More exercise?
Remember hunger usually only last 20 minutes. Probiotics will stop hunger Pains caused by Ghrelin, the hunger hormone! On fast days Taking them 3 times a day before I would Normally have a meal. Stops hunger pain and my stomach and intestines feel good.
✨😊Love this Group! ✨👍We are Stronger together✨👍
Day 14 – USA – NFD
Second post: @okeydokey, thank you for the tips!
4th post – Day 14/USA, PA/ FD
✨✨All Pocket-Fasters✨✨We got this!✨✨
Nothing but black coffee, 2 Tbsbs of unsweetened coconut milk, stevia for me so far today!🎉
@gopackgo Thank-you for the information about SLEEP. I will check the ingredients and be very grateful if it works. I too have issues with eating before bed. Mostly on NFD… I think it has something to with carbs. On a FD I don’t eat carbs so a warm water with 🍋, like @at, shared with me, works well on FD’s.
@sirisan I had a warm hot chocolate splurge on my NFD. Finally at 1:30 AM to help me sleep. Not exactly too many calories but difficult to completely burn off the Carbs.😏 I’m close to burning off all carbs so I can get the benefits of my fast day. The first fast day is actually the hardest for me. The second is easy. The third fast day I’m ready for some type of small Vegetable ninja drink or a small portion of chicken broth… to survive it😊I haven’t done a 4th day fast.
👍Together we are Stronger✨✨☀️
Day 14, Virginia USA. NFD
I’m going to try fasting 3 days this week, is there a list for tomorrow? I need to catch up with the posts for today.
This week I stopped putting sugar in my coffee on my fds and now I’m drinking sugar free coffee on my nfds too, I still use half and half but no sugar and it’s weird that I even like it!
@metatauta – I am not on the ketogenic diet but my husband has been for almost 2 years, he eats no fruit other than blueberries and no carbs other than what’s in vegetables. I tried the low carb way and lost around 10 lbs but I decided to stop because I love bread, rice and beans.. he is really good though, If you have any questions I’ll be happy to ask him for you!. He has recipe books and his own recipes. Ice cream, cookies, bread, anything.
Wish all of you a great fast or no fast day!
@okeydokey – you were asking about tips for keeping warm.
I live in the coldest flat in the world and my tips are:
Thermal vest or skiing base-layer under a cashmere jumper – great if you get a cold back.
A bubble bath will keep me warm for a few hours too.
