    Day 13 Glasgow NFD

    Day 13 – NL- FD
@biddiev hope you are having a great day! Thanks for the clues you left behind to figure it out, haha. I had to google the Ides of March – learning something every day!
Acutally, I have to thank you, because I started a BulletJournal a short while ago and entering your birthday was a test-run on seeing if it’s a system that’ll work for me. Apparently it does. So thank you!
A birthday card from a politician?? Really??
Today should be a FD but not sure if I can make it. Quite often I’m juggling FD and NFD which is why I can’t join the pocketeers.
    Good luck today everybody.

    Day 12 UK FD

Yesterday’s fast day was a failure, my first, so trying again today. It is hard to stay motivated when it is no longer working. I never should have weighed myself, then I wouldn’t have known it had stalled. Fighting the part of me that says, thats it, you failed. Give up now.

    Day 13 Hampshire NFD

    Day 13 NZ FD
    Successful FD today 284cals
I purchased Dr Ms 800cal blood sugar diet book today and am reading with the intent to follow this for up to 8weeks and see if I can reset my insane carb cravings and shunt myself off of this stupid plateau!

    Day 12 – Germany – NFD
    Day 13 – Germany – FD

@biddiev: Happy Birthday!! 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

    Day 13 – Staffordshire UK-fd

Ggggrrr scales up 4lb in two days. So bye bye number 4 as my 2nd digit, it was nice whilst it lasted and I’m sure it’ll be back.

Will start putting that right with today’s Fast Day.

@biddiev Happy birthday have a lovely day 🎂

    Day 13, Switzerland, NFD
Did acquafit on Saturday and walked about 6km yesterday. I found yesterday’s fast day tougher than usual but reckon it was my body looking for fuel given the energy expenditure. My weekly weigh in this morning shows 0.5kg less from 81.2kg last week …. I’m a happy bunny today 🙂 Good luck to all the FDs and NFDs today.

    Day 13 / UK / NFD (probably)

Another .6kg down to 67.3kg! Have been going back and forth on how to play today. FD would fit much better into my weekly schedule but I am still hesitant to do FD B2B. So probably doing NFD, but this might also turn into FD quickly if I don’t get on with things and run out of time for breakfast in a minute (@AT I’ll update if necessary, but will go with NFD for today for now, thanks!).

Yesterday (FD) was tough-ish. I realise I have to make it till noon, then it releases a mental block because from then on I would let myself have the first meal and pushing it that little further into the day gets easier because of that.

Onwards & downwards, happy Monday, everyone!

    Australia Day 13 FD

    Day 13, UK, FD.
Not caught up on posts from last tuesday as been offline, will try to catch up this week.
    Happy Monday all.

    Day 13 – Tokyo, Japan – FD 180.8kg

3rd day this month I was above 180kg. Yesterday was a bit of a party day and wow, I’m feeling it today. So I’m throwing myself in with the pocket fasters!
Day 13 UK FD, nearly halfway through the month think I need to get serious , adding myself to the list will settle back with a coffee and catch up on the weekends posts , good luck x

Day 13 Kent, UK, FD, goal 4 lbs this month

Sorry guys but I haven,t read back apart from ‘controllers post summary’ I will catch up later, I promise.

You can develop ‘new’ habits, you can develop ‘good’ habits, you can change for the better, you can replace bad habits(maybe just some of the time at first) Keep telling yourself that! 23/1 is easy if you keep drinking.
I have sparkling water when others have 🍷. I have cheese and biscuits when others have pudding. When asked why I am not eating biscuits, drinking alcohol or eating meat I simply say that I prefer healthier options, I am PROUD of that decision.
I have been fasting for years now, it gets easier. We all make mistakes, my weekend has been very indulgent compared to normal but I accept that when socialising it just damage limitation. Just don’t eat or drink as much as you ‘used’ to, you may gain a little but this can be rectified quickly. Quickly gained, quickly lost.

I have a stressful week ahead, preparing for two semi final bowls matches against excellent players. I shall be needing a gin and slimline tonic after those matches or possibly a latte. Whatever I need I will have, but it will just be one drink not a binge.

Sun is shining so I am heading out to enjoy it. BE STRONG, BE WISE, THINKING OF YOU AND CHANTING – WE CAN AND WE WILL DO THIS! Repeating it constantly and listening to it myself.

    DAY 13 – UK – FD

Good tdee day yesterday – not an oz gained even after a delicious roast lamb dinner cooked by DH.

@sarah57 – feel exactly the same when we have our lovely grandchildren (6 and 4) – just have to not think of fasting but just try to not overeat as we too get exhausted but love every minute!

    Day 13, Gozo, Malta, FD

I’m 1.5 kilos more than target this morning, one kilo more than yesterday. I’m fasting on 800 calories today

    Happy Monday everyone

    Day 13 -Nz- nod

Was supposed to be a fast day but was hungry all morning and succumbed to food then have binged at dinner! How come it is so easy to fast some days and so difficult on others!
I wasn’t going to weigh till the end of the month but am wondering if that’s too far away and it might keep me motivated if I weighed fort nightly? Can’t decide cause I don’t want the scale to mess with me like it normally does. I will try again tomorrow and will not give up. Nice to know you guys are all going thru the same thing, makes me realise I am not alone.

    Second post

…forgot to add myself! I’m also trying for a fast day.

    Day 13 Oxfordshire UK FD

Had a nice day yesterday. Walked round the lake in the University’s park in Nottingham.

    Day 13 – Queensland, Australia – FD

Successful fast day today. I think it was easier today. Maybe I’m adjusting to it. I had a good lunch of fish and veges, and egg and veges for dinner. I quite like the routine of a fast day. This is my 3rd week doing this way of eating.

Jumping in to the conversation on when to weigh: I am a daily weigher. I love to see the daily fluctuations and try to work out why; eg lightest after the second consecutive fast day (Wednesday morning), heaviest Monday morning at the start of my first FD for the week. I retain fluid after a high sodium meal, or if I have been too sedentary working on the computer all day, or if I have sore muscles from a workout.

    I am fasting again tomorrow.

Good luck to everyone still fasting today, and to all those fasting with me tomorrow!

    Day 12 – CARDIFF UK – NFD
    Day 13 – CARDIFF UK – FD

    Starting Weight : 165.5lbs

    Today’s Weight : 162.5lbs (3.0 lbs) March Target 8. 5lbs

Day 13 A lovely sunny Belfast FD

I kind of fell off the exercise wagon (how many wagons are there to fall off?) last week so am starting this new week with a new resolve.

@monkeydo Well done you! There’s nothing like throwing out clothes to reinforce your success.
@fatrabbit Don’t give up, whatever you do. As many have said, think where you will be if you stop. At least you are maintaining. Maybe you should try leaving the scales in the cupboard for a week or two? This is a new week. Put the past week behind and start afresh.

    Onwards and downwards everyone.

    Day 13 – Perth, W.Aust – NFD

Looking forward to my FD tomorrow, I feel kind of over-full, not that I’ve eaten badly, just differently and don’t feel myself, so hoping that a FD will reset that.

@dykask love all your snippets about life in Tokyo. My sons are travelling there in June for a holiday and it’s nice to get some insight about where they will be going.

Was listening to a radio interview this afternoon with Maggie Beer, those in Oz would know her as a down to earth cook and lover of food. The segment was looking at the work she is doing with aged care homes and improving the food service there. One of the comments that really stuck with me is she said that while it is very important that food is nutritious, it should also be pleasurable and not just fuel. She also said that you can’t change a culture with negative comments. And I think this works well with 5:2 as well, we can eat nutritious food that is also pleasurable and change comes when we we are positive and supportive, which is what we get in spades with this group.

Be strong, be kind, be fabulous.

    Day 13 Berkshire UK FD

    Hopefully FD! Not hungry yet…..

    Day 13……Florida….. FD

Biddi…… I’m sorry, I’m late with this but Happy Birthday, my friend!
I’ve never got a birthday card from a politician but I do get a friendly reminder every year that my birthday is here. It’s a bill for me to have my cars registered….. lol

Fat rabbit and all those struggling….. stalling out, is the bodies way of catching up with all the success you’ve had. Success is not defined by what the end product is, no one would ever believe that they could handle the challenges that come with every step of the journey. Success is always measured by the steps we take to make our dreams and goals reality. Every time, we get knocked down and we get back up, is another step in success!
I’m FD today, so each of you grab a hold of my belt, I’m dragging you along for the joys of the day!

In three short days, I’m trucking off to Buffalo…. with that being said, I plan to make all three days Fasting days because I sooo know, I will indulge in every food that I can only get when I’m there. Sounds a bit counter productive, but we have lived in Florida for nearly 10 years and the two things I miss the most about home, is the food and how kind everyone is to each other. I’m proud to say I’m from Buffalo, I just can’t do Buffalo winters anymore!

AT…… our list but be getting expansive as I see we added a few more newbies. Welcome folks….. step inside, step inside to the show that never ends, where the drink are cold and the friendship gained our what dreams are made of!

    Well, I’m off……

Lol…. I just proof read my post and realized I quoted two songs, And I didn’t even realize it….. I guess it’s better than the low rider song I quoted a couple weeks ago!

    Peace be with you!

    Day 13 – Switzerland – FD

Sun is shining and sky is blue. I’m a bit blue too, but I think it’s to do with all these previously-suppressed hormones whizzing round in me and the fact that the weight keeps piling on, up to 92.2kg today. I just have to be more determined than ever to stick to this WOL – imagine how much I’d be putting on if I wasn’t fasting…

I’m going to save pocketeering for days when I really really need it, a bit like painkillers (!) so I don’t build up a resistance. But you’re very much in my mind, each one of you – stick with it!!

    @biddiev – have a very happy birthday!

I’m channelling Yoda for today’s FD. Fast or don’t fast: there is no try.

Day 13, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Today’s weight, 142.2, Below goal weight of 145.

Feeling great, back to my first of three fasting days. Easy to do as I will be at work. Had a wonderful week-end, ate lots of good food (even strawberry shortcake), lots of water and exercise. Amazed at how good I feel.

    Hoping the same for all.

Also want to send Biddi my best birthday wishes ! Make this the year you want to celebrate !

Thank you @coda – you are such a thoughtful and supportive person. I appreciate it so much. Xx If anyone feels like crossing their fingers for me, we have to repitch for one of our oldest and largest clients on Thursday. I have worked with them for so long they feel like family. Send lucky thoughts please xxx

    Day 13: Glasgow, Scotland. NFD

Had a great fast day yesterday (had made a lovely veggie chilli the day before), and kept firmly within the 500 guidelines. I am also trying very, very hard to drink more water (which is difficult – I don’t much like water. I prefer tea every time!). I have put my scales away now, because I hate them,I don’t trust them and they are an instrument of doom. Instead, I am going to trust my own feelings about my body, trust what the mirror tells me, and – more than anything – trust what my clothes are telling me. And all of those things tell me that my shape is changing (for the better), I am trimmer, my shirts slip on nicely and button up, my skirts feel loose around my waist, and my bum looks good in my jeans. What more does anyone need? (I’m going to weigh myself on the last day of March – for the challenge stats – but I think after that, I’ll no longer have scales in my life. Tyrants!)

    Day 11 NFD
    Day 12 NFD
    Day 13 FD

Hi all. Good to read all these posts. Thanks for the support. It makes life easier 🙂

Today is FD 1/5 for the week. If anyone wants to join me on my 5 mid week fasts, let me know and I’ll post a bit on my experience and what I’m learning. I’ve been doing it since the beginning of Feb, losing about 1.2kg per week on average.

I did it because I felt I’d hit a 5:2 plateau and wanted faster progress – tried it for a week and felt fine, just making sure I added a bit more salt to food and taking Omega 3 and multi-vits to make sure I’m OK. I’m planning to carry on until Easter (Lent!) and see how it goes weight wise. If I hit my initial weight target of 74.3 Kg I will drop to 4:3, or might alternate between 4:3 and 5 mid week fasts.

Overall: it’s weird to feel the fat become less dense as I go – (but great). And musing about the Intermittent Fasting more generally I think it’s helped me separate exercise from weight loss; by that I mean that in the past I exercised like a fanatic for a few months to lose weight, do a half marathon, etc. but never quite lost the amount of weight I needed to (and probably never even came close!). So now I see the fasting as the fat loss element, and exercise as the keeping fit – strong muscles, heart, etc. I know burning calories is all a part of the exercise thing, but unless I’m running 25-35 miles per week I will always need at least 1 fast day per week when I get to maintenance.

Finally, when I now lift the 12kg I’ve lost so far i find it incredible to think that was on me. Cycling is now a joy, not just incredibly hard work!

Extra post – I have finally caught up on the posts for the last few days and just wanted to say thank you to you too @at for your kind messages. This forum is so supportive. You are all tremendous xxx

Day 12 NFD Day 13 FD Surrey UK

Have at least 4 pages to catch up on. Life is rather hectic at the moment, busy weekend with grandchildren, sorry about not posting yesterday. Did I post on the 11th? Can’t even remember…

    Day 13 – NFD – Canada
@biddiev – happy birthday! I hope you have had (I think it may have been yesterday) a day of being cherished.
@lany36 – please stay on the thread and let us know how the new MM regimen goes! I’m thinking of recommending it to someone I know.
@bert1802 – hang in there and keep your sibling bonds strong through this phase with your mum. I’ll keep your mum in mind and won’t let my boys talk me into a $5000 bike loan this week 🙂

I’m going to go solidly 16:8 or 18:6 this week. It’s March Break with kiddos and I don’t think I’ll be able to do FDs mindfully and be a jolly parent. So I’ll try the restricted time window and stick to TDEE. I’m also upping my fibre this week which may help my other issues…

2nd post — Through the most of the FD! A few hours and I try to sleep to the morning. It hasn’t been that bad today, a little hunger and some mild heartburn which I’m not used too.

    Hang in there pocket fasters!

    Day 13- Georgia, USA-FD

    Day 13, London, UK, NFD

I thought I would try the 800 cals, suggested by Dr. MM, yesterday to see whether I felt the same ‘light and righteous’ feeling I get on my usual FD or more so on a liquid FD……………………Well, I won’t call it an EPIC fail, but my food choices for that extra 300cals were dire!!! This meant I released that carb loving dragon ………….and ended my day at 1200cals!!! I think I’m sticking to the 500cal or liquid FDs …………….’cause I KNOW they work!!!!

Also, I did a level 1 30 Day shred, just because I really felt I needed to shift myself a bit!!!………… Maybe that woke the dragon and I’m the idiot who let him out to play!!!!!!! Also didn’t even think ‘WATER’ once the dragon started roaring (well tummy rumbling anyway) so I didn’t even manage 1.5L of the 3.5 I normally drink, I feel like I forgot to use the tools I KNOW work!!!!! Stupid!!

Good luck pocketeers, I hope your FD goes well today…..stay strong. Still aiming for ADF even though the last 2 Mondays have been pants!!

Hello, our new Fellow Fasting Friends GoPackGo. &. Unica hija:

So that we are all on the same page & to make it easier for AT to track us, everyone should start their posts like this:

1– Day #. It matches the day of the month, not what day you began 5:2. So if it’s March 15th, you’ll write Day 15.

    2– where you are from.

3– and if it is Fast Day (FD) or Non-fasting Day (NFD) for you.

Example: Day 15– Colorado, USA– FD.

    ———
Also this challenge works best if you pop into the thread daily! Write as much or as little as you’d like to.
Stick around & you should have very good luck!

Checking in daily, reading everyone’s posts & feeling Accountable are all incredibly helpful.

    Day 11 – London / NFD
    Day 12 – London / NFD
    Day 13 – London / FD

Oh dear such a bad day yesterday! – Chips, vanilla milkshake, cream cake, hot cross buns, 1/2 a Terrys chocolate orange… mini cheddars!!! boohoo. So disappointed in myself.

I was a little hungover but mostly sleep deprived after staying with a friend who has a small baby and we only got 3 hours sleep, so was craving carbs and bad things all afternoon and didn’t have the energy to cook anything…

But lesson learned – next time I will stock up on easy healthy options for those times when I know I’ll be tired and likely to be tempted. The weekends are so much more difficult!

Anyone have any great tips on how to stay in control over the weekends/when tired? – I just got in the wrong mindset I think…

Back on a FD today and really feeling sluggish with lots of water weight… I might throw in an extra FD this week so that I can get myself back on track.

Thanks @jojo58 for the zero noodles tip – I’m off to Holland & Barrett at lunch as I think they have a promotion going still.

@dykask – thanks for the great life stories, and insight into Tokyo life. I really enjoyed reading about that – not been there yet but it’s somewhere I want to visit.

@jarbia – thanks for your reply on exercising on a FD – that makes a lot of sense to run first thing after the NFD – I’ll give that a go

Adding myself to the pocket fasters for today – good luck all!

    Day 13 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

Pretty good day yesterday. Can’t fast today since I direct choir tonight, and tomorrow I give my 8-week pint of blood donation, so won’t fast much this week at all. Maybe Friday? But Maintenance means adhering to TDEE on NFD’s, so I must do that, and exercise too.

@gopackgo – welcome from me just into IL south of Monroe, WI. This area is about 1/2 Packer and 1/2 Bear fans, so I understand you quite well. Same is true for ILLINI vs. Badger fans. (I went to Univ. of IL and born in Chicago, hence a Bear fan. Also Cubs!)
We use the day of the month as our posting day even if it is your 1st day. You will know from the day you began from AT’s spreadsheet. I began 5:2 a year ago and lost over 30 pounds up to November then went on maintenance. With the help of everyone here, I’ve stayed at 160 since then. It takes Midwestern stubbornness and strength to do it, but I am confident you CAN!

    Onward and downward!

@flourbaby – It takes a LOT of water to add up to 500 calories! Personally I trying not to eat anything on FD. This time I did eat a 0 calorie Japanese jello. They have some chewy bits, but it probably wasn’t worth the 3 or 4 calories and 82yen.

Well I guess I can’t call this a liquid only FD! I’ll just stick to under 5 calories … only 3 more hours before I hit the hay. I almost never eat this late so now my body is shifting to that pattern. It is trained and knows it has to wait until breakfast.

Day 12 Sunday — Colorado USA– was planned as a nice Controlled NFD. Turned into a surprise (mostly) FD.

The article that was posted of Dr. MM switching up the calorie count for FDs seems to actually be about his other book “The 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet.” At least, that’s what the attached video of MM kept referencing. Basically, for 8 weeks you keep calories as low as 800 every single day. It’s aim is to make rapid improvements in insulin sensitivity for Type 2 diabetics.

I prefer 5:2 so that I can let loose on my weekends & have some red wine while dining out on Date Night with my OH. I also think the switching of calories from mid-week FD to my weekend NFD keeps my body guessing & convinced there’s no famine going on!

Another excellent book on this, for those that like reading up, is from Dr. Jason Fung “The Complete Guide to Fasting.” Fung also has “The Obesity Code” which is helpful as well.

    ——————–
Day 13 Monday — Colorado USA– FD

Now that my work schedule has changed & I finally have set days off during the week (since I now work 3 shifts of 12 hours) I can get caught up on all my Doctor visits that have been delayed for too long.
Today is my mammogram, an ultrasound & Pap smear. Coming up I’ll have dentist appt. Later in year a colonoscopy (because of my Crohn’s.)

So along with my Dr. Appts, plus ramped up exercise plan & following 5:2 for Health & Weight Loss… 2017 is rapidly turning into my “YEAR OF HEALTHY LIVING!” 😀

Keeping my Fellow Fasters in my pocket for strength today!!

    Day 13, Germany, FD

    Day 13 London, UK, FD

5th FD but weight loss not going well – 2lb. I think it’s because I ate a lot of chocolate last week and little exercise (I wasn’t feeling well). I’m feeling more positive this week, so Ill buckle down and work harder at it this week – 2lb is better than none.

    Day 13 UK FD 🌈

Wasn’t going to be a FD as I am at home and it’s always harder, however I got to 12noon so decided a few more hours until dinner, I can do it. Might be an early dinner. 😂😂

Have a good positive day all.

    Day 12-Montreal-NFD
    Day 13-NFD

    Day 13- London FD

    Day 13 – Brittany, France – FD

Very low carb and looks delicious. Summertime zucchini abundance comes to mind: http://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a51783/zucchini-enchiladas-recipe/

    2nd post,

Hi @dykask, I generally do at least 1 liquid (not just water) fast per week (1 x Coffee + a dash of skimmed milk, lots of herbal teas, water and bone broth for when the going gets tough!), although not 0 calories, certainly less than 500 and the other 2 maybe 3 FDs are max 500cals (including food to chew!). I’ve never done a ‘water only’ which would be a 0 cal FD…………I NEED that morning coffee to function without committing a murder or 2, and black coffee is for wizened US TV detective types!!!

I hope all you fasters are finding today a breeeeeze!!!
