  • Day 10 – Chester UK – NFD
Day 11 -Chester UK – NFD

Weigh in yesterday 3 lbs down in March. Friends round tonight. Planning Mexican – lots of meat, veg and salad . The others can eat the tortillas. My weakness is sour cream and guacamole. Wish me luck.

    Day 11: Glasgow, Scotland. NFD

Things are going well with me – but I have made the decision to NOT weigh myself until the last day of the challenge. The story my clothes tell me (and the mirror!) don’t always match what the scales tell me, and I want to just forget the scales until the end of March. I feel really well, and definitely feel that my eating is coming under control (and it’s been out of control for quite a while!).

I retired in July of last year – and immediately went into party mode. Constant lunches out, ‘celebration dinners’ and presents that always seemed to involve chocolates somewhere (they know me so well!). It’s as if I gave myself permission to indulge constantly (leading to a 10lb weight gain over a period of 4 months), and now I’ve withdrawn the permission. Party’s over. This challenge has been important because it’s not only retrained my eating habits, but also has made me think about what I’m eating – and why.

I hope to be at or just under 10st by the end. (But even if I’m not – and I’m still eating well and feeling comfortable in my body/clothes – then that’s all anyone can ask for, isn’t it?)

    Day 11: Gloucestershire, UK: NFD

@okeydokey: ADF…alternate day fasting, great boost for weight-loss, if you can do it!

@at: Trying to stay mindful over my long weekend of eating!

    Day 11…..Florida….NFD

Haven’t gotten the chance to read all the posts, it was a crazy day yesterday.

I fell off my FD wagon turned it into a NFD scooter…… the scale shows a 1 lb gain. My week just didn’t pan out the way, I wanted it too. So, I’m readjusting my next weeks plan.

I’m doing three consecutive fasts… M, T and W. then I’m home from Thur until Tues of next week which I know will all be NFD’s. I have been planning and not upset about the weight I may gain but there are foods I will eat because I can only get them at home. Then Three consecutive days when I get home.

Well I have work this morning so I’m off!

    Peace be with you!

    day 11 NFD Sydney
    80kg

Day 11 Maine NFD, but a very CD

Good morning all – made it through FD ok – might have been slightly over 500 – had a couple of tortilla chips w/my salad at dinner. Not committing to a FD today, but will remain at BMR for a couple of days. I can feel that I gained, so want to work on that….not weighing ’till tomorrow a.m.

@dykask – very interesting life story – how do you like living in Japan? Did that contribute to your depression? Funny the places life can lead. I admire you for tackling your weight & depression…not easy to do by yourself. You must feel very proud of yourself & you should be! Also, interesting that you say the Japanese are good money savers…Americans could take a lesson! Thanks for sharing – very motivating!

Make it a great day all!

    Day 11, London, UK, NFD

No chance of a CD today as it’s my mums birthday, and although not planning to overdo things, I imagine I’ll be well over my TDEE. The wine vs cake debate goes on………..or maybe not!!

Well done @lilymartin, sometimes we teeter on the edge of sanity or faith…………..but we KNOW this works, KNOW this is the easiest we’ve EVER found losing weight, KNOW that tomorrow really is another day where we can integrate with friends and family who eat anything and everything and remain slim (FREAKS of nature!!!) without feeling like an outsider as we munch on a celery stick (& then gain 5lbs to boot!!!) Does your DH know how close he came to death??? DO NOT mess with the scales (even in jest!!!) I used to have a similar situation with my favourite chocolate,……….EVERYONE within a 3 mile radius of me knew the rule………………..DO NOT TOUCH the salted caramel chocolate, or you WILL die!!!!!! Aaah…….. memories!!!! I have been trying to break out of the waste not want not mentality for a long time, I joked recently that I need to get a greedy dog!!!

@okeydokey – as @ciren2 said ADF is alternate day fasting, I enjoyed doing the b2bs (back to backs) that you’re a pro at, but find ADF seems to work for me especially because I plan my weeks meals on a Sunday (after officially weighing in) which allows for any adjustments if the scales are unfriendly!!!

@luna09 – I had a baby plum tomato this morning whilst waiting for the kettle to boil, WOW what a flavour explosion, I couldn’t believe how sweet it was………………hoping to use them to replace chocolate……………I know, I know………………but I DID say HOPING!!!!

@fatrabbit, congrats on the self-control!! I found niacin to be a real help with anxiety and sleepless nights. I take 1 tablet before bed (be aware of the niacin flush, maybe check out Dr. Saul) and spray magnesium oil on the soles of my feet……….and I sleep like the dead!!!

Stay strong everybody………. to steal a saying from @mamacat, again……..DO NOT let this turn into an ‘Epic face stuffing’ weekend…..you deserve better and you can do better!!!!!!!! Keep it controlled people!!!

    Day 11 Oxfordshire UK NFD

Day 11 Chicago, IL USA- NFD Weighed in this morning. 145.5 pounds. 1.5. loss from last week. Total of 5.5 pound loss so far. Feeling happy and motivated!

Day 11 NFD St Louis USA
Expecting snow today. Getting a massage. Sleeping well.

    Good luck today fasters.

    Day 11 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Another drizzly day here – missing the sunshine we had during the week! Had a very good FD yesterday, broke my fast this morning having brunch out with OH – poached eggs, avocado with a sprinkling of feta cheese with sourdough toast and a skinny flat white – could not manage the second slice of bread!!

@notmyrealname – thanks for the invite…..Tim Tams…… Durham is not that far away……….
    @blueninjamum – Are you drinking enough water – I swear by prunes……….
@erika45 – still have family and good friends in Australia – for the last 10 years went yearly to visit my elderly mum who sadly passed away in 2014 – have not been since but planning on going next year when one of my nieces gets married – looking forward to that already!
@biddiev – A rant is allowed on here – good to let it out amongst others who understand and will not judge – stay strong and positive
@arvandee – I like your “Be strong, be kind, be fabulous.” such a positive life motto x
@dykask – LOVE your recent post especially message to lilymartin – that last sentence is so true for us all – have you tried prunes – I snack on a few prunes on NFDs – swear by them……
@lilymartin – BIG HUG – what a milestone!!! that husband of yours took his life in his hands…….LOL
@micheleas – WOW – in essence you have brought up 2 families – must be so nice to get them all together today to celebrate a birthday – have a fab time
@okeydokey – ADF is alternate day fasting
@elektron – I can feel your frustration but stay with us, keep posting and stay strong
@fatrabbit – have you thought of trying some meditating for your stress – I took up yoga 18 months ago and find a short session of meditation on waking and before bed so productive.
@debster251 – 1/2″ from your waist is a big positive
@jarbia – thanks I have updated your target and will publish an updated spreadsheet on Wednesday 2 weeks into the challenge!
@missymay – great news – such a positive start to your weekend!
@pashaw – doing great in this challenge – 1/2 way to your target for the month – stay strong and positive
@janey1066 – “Stop beating yourself up! You are a work in progress, which means you get there a little at a time not all at once!” Stay positive and mindful – Re HIT exercise – google and you will find a whole lot of options and try one that sounds appealing to you?
@saffy420 – great loss – I’m with you re sour cream and guacamole…….
@emme1956 – What a lovely post and positive thoughts
@ciren2 – You and me both – let’s think of each other if we feel like we are straying – I had a lovely brunch to break my fast this morning – not planning anything to eat until dinner tonight – healthy meal planned – beetroot, jerusalem artichokes, spinach and grilled mackerel fillets – OH requested – he loves beetroot before a big run – has his regular Sunday morning run tomorrow!!!!
@bert1802 – Join Ciren2 and I in a mindful weekend??? It will set your mindset for next week x
@flourbaby – enjoy celebrating your mum’s birthday with her and your family – very precious memories to build and remember – a very uplifting post as well x
@Chitown Gal – what a positive start to your March challenge – WOW

An afternoon or Rugby awaits – great start yesterday by the Wales – will Scotland follow this afternoon???

Postive vibes to all doing a FD today and mindful eating for those of us on NFD – A positive thought to take us all through the weekend
I HOPE YOU KNOW YOU’RE CAPABLE AND BRAVE AND SIGNIFICANT. EVEN WHEN IT FEELS LIKE YOU’RE NOT.

    Day 11 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

Scale still at 160.2 this morning – maintenance for me – despite not the best day yesterday. I indulged at fast food Culver’s yesterday out with a friend and had a burger and onion rings. Wow, don’t remember the last time I had those deep fat fried delicious things. Will do a very controlled day today.

@anna6 -I saw your Gozo beloved Azure Window was destroyed in a storm just a few days ago. Wow. So difficult to suffer the ravages of storms.

@dykask – fascinating life story that so many of us in rural America understand. Older generations understand too because our parents lived through the 30’s Great Depression when you would never waste a single thing. I remember going to my mother-in-law’s for the first time before we married, and she served dessert with every meal. That was new to me, but she was feeding a family of 8 and sugar was cheap.

We are such an international community and also varied in age and circumstances. How kind of everyone to be so supportive and helpful. I love this group.

    Onward and downward!

Hi all day 11 nfd UK and drum roll…..
    🎉🎉🎉 I have finally caught up🎉🎉🎉

    Day 11– NFD– Virginia USA

I weighed myself today, still 174 lbs, happy I haven’t gained any more but wanted it to be at least 1 pound less, I’ll blame it on the hormones and keep going.. still have next week! 🙂 I’ll keep working on it!

@scs – It is funny I never really considered myself depressed, it was more of I just didn’t care. Maybe that is depression, I don’t know. However it was a pretty brief time, probably less than a year. Once I started exercising and trying to change things I was really busy just trying to keep up with work. At some point I was caring again. However once I started feeling good that really changed my outlook on life.

Living in Tokyo isn’t much different than living elsewhere, there are advantages and disadvantages. There are a lot of tradeoffs.

    What I like:
    ============
    * Food, it is easy to eat healthy and kind of expensive to eat unhealthy. Super easy getting lunch during the week, weekends aren’t as easy but okay.

    * Living without a car. Wow, saves so much time and money. However it only works because you don’t need a car to get anywhere in Tokyo.

    * My children are thriving. This is on an educational level and in general.

    * Healthcare is so much better than the states, but hospitals aren’t as nice. A big part of it is the cost. For example even if you play out of pocket a day in a hospital runs around $300 US. My wife had a hernia surgery and insurance only covers 70%, still our 30% was less than $1000 and she was in the hospital for 3 days.

    * There is a huge focus on child wellbeing. That is from doctors/dentists/police/firefighters/etc visiting schools to just a lot of services set up to make sure children are safe and healthy.

    * The relationship between police and people is really positive and friendly. The police also take little things very seriously. One time we couldn’t find my son and even though it had only been a few hours the police tracked him down. Then they chewed him out for not respecting his parents.

    * There is less pressure for children to grow up so quickly.

    * Safety, Tokyo is probably one of the safest places in the world.

    * There is a lot to do in Tokyo.

    * Where we live the government is trying to encourage more families so there are lots of perks.

    * Both my wife and I have income here, so that has been really nice.

    * Japanese are really polite and generally friendly. It is actually a much more caring culture than western cultures are.

    * There is a lot of conveniences living in Tokyo. Convenience stores in Japan
are awesome and generally Japanese don’t price gouge like happens in the states.

    * Shipping in Japan is fast and cheap. For example on trips we often just ship dirty clothes home. It gives you more space for taking stuff back and it is easier than washing clothes on the road. With Amazon prime in Japan (~$37/year) I often get something delivered the same day I order it for free! You can also schedule when you want something delivered, typically to a 2 hour window.

    * In Japan, if a service worker will tell you when they will come and typically it is within 15 minutes of the time given. No 4 hour time windows than grow into all day windows like in the states.

    What I don’t like:
    =================
    * Space – While it works it isn’t as nice as in the states. Family of four in a about a 700 sq. foot apartment. Cost is over $2000/month. Our apartment is actually on the large size. Mostly it isn’t that bad but the kitchen is a bit cramped.

    * Kids have too much freedom. It can be a problem at times.

    * My language skills are limited and that sucks for me. I could fix it but I have to focus on making money.

    * Working remote for a US corporation is very risky.

    * Japanese have little respect for Sundays or Saturdays. Lots of family time conflicts when you don’t expect them.

    * Too many holidays. It is a pain to work when my family is free. There is at least one 3 day weekend every month, sometimes 2 in a month. Japan has about 3 times the holidays that exist in the states.

    * Power costs a fortune, but it is getting better. For a while we were paying over $.30/kwh.

    * Earthquakes, sometimes two or three in a week. There will be a massive on in Tokyo sometime, it is just a matter of when.

    * Taxes – simply painful, my incremental rate is 50% if both national an local taxes are included. There is also an 8% sales tax. So at some point I’m more working for Japan than for myself.

    * Garbage is a pain and Japanese are really picky about how things get thrown away.

    * Too many ceremonies at times typically followed by drinking parties. Not my kind of thing.

Overall it has been a good experience.

Some things I wrote down while catching up

@lynzm – when I first started the challenge I took roll the first 2 months but as i was going on holidays I asked for a volunteer. I was like a duck out of water when I no longer checked people in, it had become a habit. Probably why I was so determined to catch up on all the posts.

@at WOW – what a spread sheet – thank you so much for the time and effort you are putting in. With such big numbers it is no easy task. Thank you again.

    @lany36 – stay with us!!

@pamie – belated happy birthday – hope it was a good one.

@blueninjamum – I don’t think eating something made with love from a 10 year old son should be any reason to be disappointed. Celebrate! Being over 120 cals will be fine really – no big deal. Funny how some comments however well intended can spur us on or make us crumble. You are stronger than you think – you WILL get to goal as this is a way of life (WOL). Have you thought to maybe change the brand of iron tablet? or taking psyllium – to help move things along.

@sirisan – make your own bone broth – cheaper and nicer. There is a link somewhere for a recipe. Maybe someone will be kind enough to put it on again.

@hannahwatto – sometimes we carry a burden along maybe adding more troubles as the come along. Work, family, weight, it sometimes all become too much and it takes us to have a bit of a melt down for people to realise it is too much for your alone to carry it all. They help take some of the load and suddenly you feel you can carry on that bit further. We don’t always see the signs and aks for help because we don’t want to burden others. We keep quite and keep trying to cope. We need to put in place strategies to help ease the load. We need to set the burden down a while and escape. We then feel more ready to pick up and get going. One of the places is here, sometime just sharing with this group of global friends can help. Even if its only a virtual hug we can offer – it helps. I hope things work out for you and you stay with us no matter how overwhelmed you feel.

@lilymartin – so glad you got your mojo back. I want you to visualise yourself in the cutest set of underwear you have (ahem for the men on this site – this is Lily’s visualisation not yours)! Yes Lily keep a strong picture in your mind and you will achieve it!! PS YAY go you!

@metatauta – it says somewhere that 5:2 is so good for overall health that medication should be checked as you may need lower doses or none at all. Another indication of this WOL working.

@Ciren – did you ever try some of the ideas I suggested when you come home from work?

Redrockgirl302 – I had to stop FB and other media for a while as stories about cruelty to animals and children were so frequent and pulling me down. There was a particular case of abuse/murder to a lovely young child in Australia that really got to me. I couldn’t get her out of my mind and what she went through in her brief life. The abandoned dogs and cats looking for homes, the missing, presumed stolen much loved family pets, for a fate one does not want to thing about. It was becoming to much to bear. I had to turn off and concentrate on the good news and the good people in the world to blot out the heinous crimes of others.

@johnnyr – well done you, not easy to share some things especially being a man. Hope it helps on your journey, one bit of baggage that you can let go off and not carry around any more.

@bsp3 & @krisnia – we are all on the same page no matter when you started the journey. The day of the challenge is the same as the day of the month ie 11th March is day 11. So no matter where you are in the world, no matter when you started this way of eating, we are all on the same day.

    @scs – I love people watching too!

@Biddie – could it be your are dehydrated? did you drink enough while you were so busy. Don’t worry that kg will disappear soon.

@arvandee – I avoid products that advertise ‘no sugar’ as they always contain artificial sugars which like you I can’t stand the taste, never mind the health risks.

@dykask – a very thought provoking post – Be very proud.

I sat for over 4 hours last night catching up and another hour or so this morning but it was important for me – I feel more in control and had a very good fast day yesterday – starting to repair the damage done.

Sorry for the long post but thanks for taking the time to read. Will leave you with this
Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it – the time will pass anyway. – Earl Nightingale

    Coda: Eeek!
Remind me what they were….sorry…I can’t keep up on all the posts, let alone remember what was said! Even so, I DO appreciate your help when I have my (frequent) struggles.

    Day 4- NFD-WA
Had a good FD yesterday, felt great, lots of energy, weighed in today and I’ve lost 2 pounds. My intention today on my NFD is to be mindful of hunger and not do mindless eating, and keep active!

Day 11 Saturday / Day 12 Sunday — Colorado USA– both NFDs

Weekends are typically my downfall. Will try to make them both Controlled Days.

Also, plan to hop on treadmill & walk a steep incline while catching up on reading these posts. I’m 12 pages behind & I’m a slow reader, but a fast walker, so it ought to be quite a good workout!

    Have a terrific weekend all!

    Day 11, Gozo, Malta, NFD

I had no breakfast apart of a coffee with semi skimmed milk. Then I went out to lunch with my two granddaughters and met my two daughters and grandson and had octopus with vegetables and baked potatoes plus one cappuccino with half teaspoon sugar. Tonight I’ll have a banana and yogurt with honey.

For tomorrow I’ve cooked roasted butternut squash soup, drumsticks with tarragon, fennel and creme fraiche to be served with baked potatoes and peas, and baked strawberry meringue pie and blackberry crumble. I’ve also bought Belgian white chocolate and hazelnut ice cream to serve with the crumble. On Sundays I look forward to deserts as I’m not having sweets and chocolate during this Lent except on Sundays. Tomorrow two of my daughters and their families are invited and coming for lunch.

    Have a great Saturday everyone.

    Day 11 Florida, USA FD

Had apples, yogurt, and granola for breakfast. Will only have a light snack until dinner. Dinner will be zucchini noodles with homemade sauce and pork medallions (2).
Wishing everyone well today, whether FD or NFD.
I intend to swim for exercise.

    2nd post

@dykask – thanks so much – that was fascinating to read. When my now 40 yr old son was in high school, we had Japanese exchange students live with us for 2 years through Rotary. The first one was from a rice farm in the countryside – he now is married w/3 children & teaches English in the town where the nuclear leak was – the name escapes me. The other student was the son of a veterinarian – tragically, his whole family perished in the sunami. My son spent a year between high school & college in Kyoto. Although he took Japanese lessons here in the states, he really couldn’t grasp the language until just about a month before he returned. It was so challenging. I do believe that experience really changed him – he became so introspective. Also, we found that the the “American” sense of humor is very different from the Japanese – they don’t get sarcasm at all! Very serious! And, one of the first lesson we had to teach each student was not to “slurp” their food. I guess slurping is a sign that the food is pleasing? Is it still that way? My son loved Tokyo – he said you could get anything there & also said it was the safest city he has ever been in. No guns allowed in Japan – is it still that way?

Thanks again for sharing! We can learn so much from each other!

    HI All,

Wishing all FD’ ers and NFD’ ers a wonderful week-end!
I’m still reading and haven’t got through all the inspirational posts. It so nice to know, I can contact this wonderful group for support if needed!

THANK-YOU! @at for reminding us that we are Brave, Capable, and Significant, even if we don’t feel like it! 💛 This!!!

@jarbia FD day for me and my husband today also! ✨I’m so thankful for you and the people in this group! I was diagnosed with asthma and today as I fast I can feel congestion in chest slowly “dissolving”. I feel lighter and I have more energy. My husband and I are working on 8,000 – 10,000 steps. I’ve done 4,000 so far ✨🎉😊I hope your day is going well!✨👍 I’m thankful for the connection and strength of this group!✨Good Luck Today✨

@dykask Wow, Thanks for sharing your history. It really shows how much better we can feel and healthier we can be if we forgo the sugar. I’ve experienced sugar causing inflammation, Anger and mania when my daughter eats sugar. My daughter’s had high blood pressure, throat tightening and emotional dangerous distress when eating sugar. So she doesn’t and can’t eat it at all, including any of the sugars substitutes that have alcohol in them. I try to say no to sugar. When I do, I’m much better for it. For me: Fasting means I don’t have to decide or count calories. I don’t have to worry about it. I just don’t eat sugar 😊

@beverley8603 Crisis!?! I hope 🤞 everything is OK So Glad your fasting day went well😊

@norrieb Good Luck to you on your fasting Day!

    @missymay Congratulations 🎉 You did it!✨

@lynzm Good luck on your fast day. We are fasting at our house also. I fractured me knee so I have physical therapy and just started walking @ 3,000 to 6,000 steps. Gradually working for more steps! I’m impressed by your going to the Gym on a fast day! Go Go Go ✨We can do this!✨

@at I love what you said

✨🎶Very Thankful for the support from this group!🎶✨💛

Day 11, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD

    Hi All,

NFD today but very controlled. Dinner invitation last night was a white carb disaster and my body was extremely unhappy. Spaghetti, garlic bread, cake.
I have not eaten like this for about 40 days and it showed me that my body does not like it a bit. I felt horrible all night. Still feel like a whale, so incredibly bloated and unwell. It was a dinner invitation and I had no say about the food. Now I have to undo the damage done to my body and it will take a few days to be back to my healthier self.

Have a great weekend! Ciao! 😊😊😊

    Day 11 – USA – FD

    Day 11 Surrey UK NFD

My weigh in day today and I am 145lbs – 1.5lbs loss this week. Woohoo!

    Day 11 – Brittany, France – NFD

NFD but it might turn into an unintentional FD because I’ve been feeling queasy all day! Hence no exercise either; I’m just not up to it at the moment.

Day 10, FD, Day 11, NFD
Freezing cold in New England, so trying to sip warm drinks, rather than eating heavy comfort food! A lovely discovery from this IF WOL is tea — taking the time to sip and enjoy a nice tea — chamomile, licorice, green… every week I try to find something different.

    DAY 10 – UK – FD (2nd Post)

Just to comment about exercising on a fd. (I did my short run this morning)…I find it helps to exercise after a nfd – as my body has had some carbs and protein the day before. I run fairly early – and because it’s an effort the satisfaction of doing it is so great, it is so much easier to keep ones resolve and not waste all that effort by then having a binge afterwards.
A hot shower and hair wash makes me feel great – and I also make sure I’m doing something nice for the rest of the day (even if it’s only reading in front of the fire!). I never run on a nfd only ever on fd’s.
Just thought this might strike a chord. xx

    Day 11 : Cheshire, UK : NFD

quick check-in. Will catch up on posts later. xo

Day 11 – SW WA USA – NFD

    Going for a 18:8

dykask – your story encouraged me. Going from 106 – 79.2 kgs over 5 years. That’s great! A true lesson in perseverance.

So enjoyed our sun break and warmer temps for a day yesterday – we hit 60 deg. F for the 1st time this season. Today we’re back to rain but I’m keeping the sunshine in my mind. “The sun will come out tomorrow..”

Day 11, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Hello all, almost middle of the day here and neither my husband or I have eaten a bite. Just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Will have the end of my homemade veggie soup, will make him whatever he wants. We more often than not eat different foods.

Last night we ate the same thing, pizza – homemade pizza that he made. My half with caramelized veggies and cheese, his with sausage and cheese. Only ate two small slices because I had a big salad. It was very good. He is a skilled pizzaman ! haha… One of his many talents.

We each had an ice cream drumstick in bed watching Blue Bloods. It was yummy.

Todays weight 141.6, under goal weight of 145.

    To your health all.

    Day 11, Cumbria uk, nfd
A good nfd yesterday and today seems to be going well too so far.
    Good luck everyone. Xx

    Day 12 – New Zealand – NFD

    Day 11-Montreal -FD

    Day 12 – New Zealand – NFD

    For you Ciren
@Ciren I remember reading about a woman who found her danger zone was on the homeward journey when she called at a petrol station for the evening paper. It was a habit that in addition to getting the newspaper, a bar of chocolate always slipped in. Her mind associated the station with chocolate, she was practically salivating as she approached the filling station. So she changed her routine and a change of filling station did the trick. As once she changed her stop, her mind did not have the same association. Change the routine when you get home from work – brush your teeth as soon as you get in – have something nice but that will keep you still on plan, ready and waiting, a shower/bath without going into kitchen first, straight to another room other than kitchen and do some relaxation breathing? Might be worth a go?

    Day 11 | NFD | UK

The scales were kind today not only had a reset the damage from last week’s birthday treats (4lbs) also another 1lb gone…

I keep repeating to myself… NFD does not = reward day.

    Day 12/NFD/Aus

    Day 11| Toronto| CD
Sigh; so cold today it is like winter has decided to start over and make up for the mild first time around. Very tired out and frustrated by some ongoing “life” issues.

    Day 11 – Switzerland – NFD

Woah, I’m really enjoying reading all these posts. Had a good FD yesterday and stretched it into today with the help of some strong coffee. Broke fast at 11am which is a first for me. Sadly also broke my 10-day run of virtue by over-eating at dinner by 900 kcals, but have logged it and am moving on (feeling a bit bloated, and have the beginnings of a mouth-ulcer, damn you chips).

@blueninjamum – thanks for the mexican rice recipe, have printed it off, looks great.
@coda – love that wagon, plenty of room for all of us when we need it!
@janey1066 – plateaux come and go, don’t lose hope. We’ve had great news today from @lilymartin and @missymay. AT’s spreadsheet says you’re starting at 9st, which suggests that you might be at/near a healthy BMI, or at least closer than a lot of us on here :-). It’s natural that those last lbs are more stubborn to shift: your body requires fewer calories to move itself around than when you’re heavier. It’s frustrating when the scales don’t shift, but you’re still benefiting from all the health advantages of this way of life. Good luck with the HIIT!
@dykask – lovely to hear about the ups and downs of life in Tokyo. We visited Japan last summer and I would go back in a flash. You forgot to mention that you have the best toilets in the known universe!
@johnnyr – your words about being bullied really resonate with me. It’s true: ‘the old you is still underneath’. In my case, the layers of fat try to protect/hide it away and losing weight is part of a path to confronting some old fears, previously placated by cake.

Right, off to bed before I dig myself into a deeper hole.

    Day 12 NFD Sydney
finally measured myself and everything down
weight keeps jumping up and down. very annoying.
might have to commit to exercising to break me out of this slight slump.

    Day 12 NFD NZ
Sorry I’ve missed a few days, had a lot going on and just didn’t manage to get on here but had read sporadic posts as I’ve had a spare minute
@at Everyday I’ve missed posting has been a NFD
I’ve been doing minimum 16:8, often 20:4 but not calories restricted to 500 in the eating hours.
I’m actually starting to feel refreshed after a week of this pattern, and I’m feeling ready to do a proper calorie restricted fast tomorrow
I think I’ve needed this mini break and I’m much more positive I can get back to regular 5:2 next week
As to whether I make any weight progress once start the proper fasts start again who knows…I guess time will tell and have to hope my faith in the process holds while I’m waiting to find out

    Day 11 – Germany – NFD

Day 12 Sunshine Coast Aus NFD No idea what the weight is today. After yesterday’s face stuffing, I’m not going there.

@dykask: Stellar posts and truly inspiring for one with a long way to go and buckling at the knees. Thank you.

Thanks also to all posters as there is a lot of soul searching and quiet affirmations going on all through the thread. AAT, your summaries help me to realise what the salient points are and I’ll often click on someone I have obviously overlooked and go back and read their replies created to pick up on what I have missed.

I continue to enjoy your posts Anna6 as your food sounds a real joy to you and still you have reached your goal and seem able to hover within 2 kgs of that goal. Well done.

Better go and help out in the kitchen . I can hear OH doing dishes etc. Have enjoyed catching up around the world.

    Day 11 Canada, NFD

@strawberries I noticed as well that it takes me 3 good FDs to lose a lb. I am considering upping the FDS to ADF or even as many as 5
in a row M-F with weekends free for NFDS as JohnnyR is doing with great success. I would like to see my weight moving off a bit faster.

@johnny your story resonated with me as well and I am sorry you had to go through that. I am heartened that there is such a focus now in schools on anti-bullying camoaigns, at least here in Canada. Some things are much better now than when we grew up!

    Day 12 – Perth AUS – NFD

Sooo I couldn’t help it, and jumped on the scales… Looks like yesterday’s combination of “blah pig out” mode and the medication saw me gain 2kg / 4.4 pounds. Was intitially disheartened, but coming on here helps me put things in perspective. We all have ups and downs. I can still do this. That wagon is still within reach, just gotta dust myself off and run screaming after it!

Caught up on most of the posts now and am again amazed by the individual and collective strength here. I have no idea how @at manages to keep track of everyone, spreadsheet us AND do individual replies!!! Amazing 😁

    Day 12 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD 79.9kg

Today will be a low activity day for me, might not even get in 10,000 steps. My body could use a rest but the main reason a pretty much all day kids event. There is annual violin recital for the teacher my children learn from. My son is pretty advanced and a bit of a musical snob, but that is okay. My daughter is starting to advance nicely.

I’ve been thinking about fruit and I’m going back up on my fruit consumption as I think it really helps my bowels. On 5:2 there really is only 3 days a week where I might be hitting my liver hard with fructose, however again I haven’t seen any studies that support that eating whole fruit is a problem. But my pattern is like this:

    1. FD – Liver is cleaning out sugars and fats
    2. NFD – Liver is empty so fructose is probably okay
    3. NFD – Bad day for Fructose
    4. NFD – Bad day for Fructose
    5. FD – Liver is cleaning out sugars of fats
    6. NFD – Liver is empty so fructose is probably okay
    7. NFD – Bad day for Fructose
    Repeat

So I only have one double bad day a week. However there is also a good amount of studies that support that eating whole fruit actually helps with losing weight and weight maintenance. There is even some evidence that whole fruit juice isn’t that bad for you even though it lacks the fiber from fruit. However I only use whole fruit myself.

Finally I want to say it took me 5 years to go from 106kg to where I am because I did things the wrong way. If I had focused on cleaning up my diet rather than just calorie reduction and fasting I would have lost the fat a lot faster!

@and..Exhale – great point about the toilets. In my view, the bathrooms in the states aren’t very nice in general. Sometimes I see a Chinese tour bus and it very common to see the Chinese tourist carry toilet sets, I presume to take back to China. The down side it sometimes it can be hard to figure out to flush. At least I can now read enough Japanese to find the correct flush button. Also in Japanese homes, the toilet is typically in a separate room from the bath. That is very practical.

@scs – I think it depends where in Japan you are when it comes to slurping as I don’t see that in Tokyo very often. However Japanese don’t normally use spoons for soups and even when they do they are often more Chinese style spoons rather than regular spoons. Sometimes teaspoons are used for coffee or tea and tablespoons are used for Japanese curry dishes and sometimes for twirling spaghetti. However kids could very well be slurping food in school! That would be very typical of teenage boys in Japan.

No idea why I’m still awake… but have just seen this interesting article about the ‘new’ version of 5:2 is allowing 200 extra calories… hhhmmm…
