  • Day 9, Canada, FD

@luna -welcome and you are off to a great start! I too really feel a sense of wellbeing the day after a fast. I don’t recall feeling that before on any other diet and like you, I’ve tried them all.

@bert. I feel for you being so far away from your Mom when she is struggling through this loss of autonomy. My 99 year old MIL went into a care home 2 years ago after finally getting a diagnosis of dementia. It is tough to watch her deterioration, but she gets great care/attention from the nurses in the home, so some peace of mind for the family. So nice to hear how well your boys are turning out, must have some great parents,I would say.

@at – Truly thankful for all your support this month❤💋💕

    Day 9- Montreal- FD

The day’s just starting here, I’m working a night shift tonight so aim to fast till mid afternoon tomorrow when I wake.
@lynzm I misunderstood the meaning of pocketeers!
Good luck to all fasters today.

@erikaa67 I am 52 and this has been going on for a few years now. Last year I thought it was over but it came back again. I am thankful that I don’t get night sweats either but I did get uncomfortably hot last summer despite our summers and the word hot not usually going together. And I’m not a fan of heat at the best of times. I don’t think I have been grumpier than usual but I may not be the best one to judge that.

@bert it must be so hard having your mum going through that so far away:( I live with mine and that has its difficulties but at least she is where we can look after her.

@fatrabbit – do you mean brussel sprouts in that recipe? Sounds delicious.

@smallonewithcats – welcome, you will love this WOE (way of eating). I have to ask. . .. how many cats do you have? I have 2 tuxedo kittens and an Irish Setter-so much fun with the animals in our home! That is to say they are all somewhat crazy.

Flour baby….. no judgement on shoes, I’m right up there with you! I’ve never counted them but there’s enough. I’ve got more than all these off my boys combined and my youngest is a shoe lover too.

Thank you everyone for the kind words about my mom. I just want what is best for her because regardless of what my childhood was like in her own twisted way she did what she thought was best for me when I was young.

    Day 8 – FD
    Day 9 NFD
    Surrey, UK

FD yesterday went v well. I always knew NFD today will be a challenge as I am going to a fancy pants dinner tonight – just going to give myself a break and enjoy it 🙂 Will balance it out with third FD this week tomorrow.

    Day 8, Canada, FD

Good morning! So sorry, I haven’t had time to read all of the posts, but I did try to skim.

I’m aiming for an all liquid FD today. So far just black coffee with stevia, water, and hot water with lemon. NFD yesterday (didn’t get around to posting) – went over my TDEE thanks to a desperate need for a glass of wine, which turned into 2, but aside from that, it was a good day, food wise.

It has been a very trying week – on top of my full time job, in the evenings I have been covering the office at another business while the bookkeeper is on vacation, and also helping my sister paint her basement, which we finally finished last night. I work 75km from home, and normally drive to and from every day, but this week I had to stay at my parents’ place nearer to where I work because of a terrible winter storm early in the week, so haven’t been home since Monday. Very much looking forward to getting home this evening…need some cuddles from my lovely husband. Ready for the weekend…feeling drained.

Have a great day everyone…stay strong!

    Day 9 Surrey UK NFD

    Checking in.

    Day 9 -NL – NFD
Today should have been a FD….somehow, after I woke up, my mind went “auto-pilot” and I realised that too late……enjoyed a hearty breakfast and my planned FD went right out the window :< Maybe tomorrow……
    Great spreadsheet AT!!

    Day 9: Gloucestershire NFD:
A beautiful spring-like day here today….almost made delivering the mail a pleasure!
Yesterday’s fast-day was a SUCCESS…largely thanks to the public commitment and the support of the many other pocket-fasters.
Shall we start a list for tomorrow? I’m hoping to fast then.

@fatrabbit thankyou so much for the recipe! I am going to have fun making that. – we already have all those spices in the cupboard and my OH will think it’s his birthday if I manage to cook a curry!

    Hi @ciren2
what do u mean by pocket-fasters?

    Day 9 / Munic, Germany / NFD

What do u mean by pocketeer?

Ha ha… sorry. Just let me know 🙂

@at Thanks for keeping such a nice detailed spreadsheet. Correction, my weigh in was on March 4, not March 6. I will be weighing in every Saturday morning after my second fast day. Thanks AT have a great day!

    Day 9 uk nfd/cd

A bad night as my cold got a hold with rasping sore throat, thanfully feeling better this morning!
Decided on a control day as out with girls and will fast tomorrow.

At you are doing a grand job with the spread sheet, keeping track of us all must be so hard!

Sarisan thanks for STOP written that one too!

Fuvvie great visulisation on us all on the waggon arms outstretched to those who are struggling, and visa versa! We’re truely in this together.

I managed to get up date with the posts so I’m with you all today whether fasting or not, stay strong! we can do this!

    Day 9 – USA – NFD

Fast day went very well yesterday; thank you all for your support! Seeing progress in many areas.

@Bert1082, my heart goes out to you…I was in the same situation with my mom a decade ago. Will be thinking of you.

    Day 9-Georgia,USA- FD

    Schatziii:
Pocket-fasters…a list of people who have said they will fast on a certain day. We can then support each other, AND put the list in our pocket for moral support and strength in numbers on that day.

Day 9 FD. St Louis USA
Going to going away party for dinner this evening. Looked up menu for 300 cals as I had 200 for breakfast. Realized NFD evenings are most difficult when home at end of day. I don’t eat high cal, carbs or high fat but I snack. Planning to work on that.

Haven’t figured out how to copy pocket people but sending all us tasters positive vibes.

Glad STOP was helpful. Lots of good tips.

@at Thank you for efforts. Plan to check that spreadsheet soon.

    Day 9 – USA – NFD
    Second post
@at, You are always so upbeat and cheerful with newbies to this site. May I suggest an addendum to the “blurb” you send in your welcome post to streamline the posts a bit? You may have done so already and sorry if I overlooked it.

    ACV-apple cider vinegar
    FD – fast day
    NFD – non-fast day
    CD – controlled day
TDEE – total daily energy expenditure
    BMR – basic metabolic rate
BMI – basic metabolic index (? is this right?)
pocketeer – I think you already described this one
    etc.

    Hope this helps!

Day 9 – SW WA USA – FD

Thanks for the spreadsheet AT. Lovely job!

And…exhale – looks like we’re in a similar place weight wise. It’s fun that we’re supporting each other across the world as we pursue similar goals.

    Have a strong day everyone!

    Day 9 – Bamberg, Germany – FD

Thank you very much @at for such an amazing spreadsheet! It must have been so much work!

I have spontaneously decided to have my 2. FD today instead of tomorrow! ☺ Going well so far, although it really isn’t easy.

@bert I’m sorry about your mum. Regardless of your past relationship, we all still feel responsible for aging parents. For many years I spent one weekend in four on an hour’s flight Friday evening after work, to stay the weekend and fly back on Sunday, just to look after mum. My retirement decision was partly decided by her health and in the last 6 months, I spent weeks staying with her. She was in heart failure, which in many ways is easier than dementia, and mum was fully in control of her marbles! (And in control of me too!) She passed away about 15 months ago and I miss her now probably more than ever. I also miss my connection with my roots, because I’ve lived in Ireland for 40 odd years, but always had a base at ‘home’. So what I’m saying really is enjoy her while you still have her. Xx
Flour baby and Bert- a gal can never have too many shoes!

    @ciren2

Oh yeah what a good idea. All these 8 days I was wondering what are u pocketeers doing 😉 Thanks for ur reply 🙂

    Day 9 / Sweden / FD

I’m sorry I can’t keep up with the posts but I will post every day. Too much going on with work (I’m organising an exchange for my students with a school in Brittany, as well as organising a ski trip, organising a mathematics final for 6 schools around the county, organising a trip to Gothenberg with two of my students who won a competition with the Nobel Museum…. as well as trying to teach my regular classes and cover for one other teacher!)

FD going well as they generally do these days. I realise that I’m not really hungry during the day, it’s mostly that my mouth and stomach are bored with nothing to do. Too bad I can’t chew gum in front of my students (they’re not allowed chewing gum in school).

Good luck to all those fasting today and positive vibes to those on NFD today!

    Take care.

    2nd Post Day 9

Having a lovely day enjoying this gorgeous day we are having in Cumbria!
OH made his homemade bread this morning – whilst it was proving we went out for coffee and cake at our favourite local cafe – lovely relaxed time reading the papers and chatting!
Back home and finished my book sitting out in the sun, a great way to spend a couple of hours, then a long chat with a good friend from down south! Then did bit of housework – thought I had better do something productive with my day………LOL

Catching up with the forum, we keep growing………..
@micheleas – congratulations on a very controlled day celebrating your son’s 9th birthday!
@smallonewithcats and @wellnesstoday121 (if you are joining) – Welcome to the 31 Day March 2017 Challenge – we are a big and friendly group with everyone at different stages of their 5:2 WOL and some on maintenance as well. Share as much or as little as you feel like but you will have great support here. It would be helpful for me if you could start your daily post with the day of the month, where you are, and if you are doing a FD (Fast day) or a NFD (Non Fast Day). Example today for me would be Day 8 – Cumbria UK – NFD. Add more to your daily post or not as you please. If you don’t sign in daily then just update at the start of your post whether each day since you last signed in was a FD or NFD – makes updating the spreadsheet a bit easier – Thanks
@janey1066 – Even though you joined us 4 days ago today is Day 9 of the challenge for every one – I would get so mixed up otherwise!!! so tomorrow when you post it will be DAY 10 for the challenge (even though in reality it is your Day 5) Hope this makes sense??
    @bert1802 – Just HUGS x
@georgia83 – Great job – bet you have a big smile all day today…….
@lindasue – Thanks but no job thanks!!! loving retirement way too much……Funny thing is that when I was working I would hate doing spreadsheets and gave it to my PA to do but I obviously knew what to do and still do – surprised myself….LOL
@krisnia – as per my post to janey1066 above – today is Day 9 of the challenge for every one – so tomorrow when you post it will be DAY 10 for the challenge – can you update me with some information regarding which day were your FD/NFD since you started this WOL and anything else you want to share for the spreadsheet. Hope this makes sense??
@fatrabbit – I’m not a great fan of sprouts but your recipe would translate well with any mixture of vegetables so I might try adding a few sprouts with the other veg I like to see if I change my mind about them – thank you for sharing x
@ebell13 – I am a bit confused your post today said Day 8 FD – did you mean Day 9??
@Chitown Gal – Thanks for the correction – updated x

I am very grateful for all your kind words regarding the spreadsheet – I have enjoyed doing it so maybe I am a bit nerdy at heart!!!!!

Pocketeers list for tomorrow – Day 10 of the Challenge – I have added anyone I saw who said they were doing a FD to the list! ANYONE ELSE JOINING – ADD YOUR NAME AND REPOST (you can just copy it and paste on your post to save you typing it all out)

Saw this today thought it might make us smile “Optimist: Someone who figured out that taking a step backward after taking a step forward isn’t a disaster, it’s more like a cha-cha.”

    Day 9, Germany, FD

@at I’m so sorry, chaos at work, don’t have time to read all your encouraging posts or to write anything. I don’t have time to eat either.

Good luck all today’s fasters and everyone having a NFD.

@lindasue, the day after International Woman’s Day, we may need your life story. Young when you had babies, now great-grandma, working on stock market and reference to current work law firm? Do tell!

    Day 9, NFD, US

    Day 9 – Switzerland – NFD

What a lovely bunch of messages – and a storming recipe for sprout curry, thank you @fatrabbit

Really impressed with your spreadsheet @at, and for your kind encouragement. There are so many of us, you need stellar organisational skills to keep track of everyone.

@annemarilyn, you’re right, we’re treading the same path. I’m trying to harness the enthusiasm I had when I lost the first 10kg. Hoping to see the other side of 200lbs this week at last!

    Day 9 Virginia USA FD

    Day 10 – New Zealand – NFD

    Day 9| Toronto| FD
Struggling today;2:00 pm and already at 457 calories.

    Last post for Day 9,

I’ll join the pocket-fast for tomorrow please, My CD today went so-so, ate to TDEE but 40% of that was crap with 0 nutritional value!!! Typical, but at least I didn’t binge, nor did I feel the urge to…….now that’s progress.

Good luck tomorrow everybody, whatever day it is for you.

Please copy, paste, add your name then re-post the list for Day 10 FD.

    Day 7 NFD
    Day 8 FD
    Day 9 FD
    Day 10 NFD

Day 9–Mass, USA–FD. Going strong. A little more hungry today than I have been on Fast Days, but I’m determined to stick with it!

    Day 9 Florida USA NFD
Very successful FD yesterday-500 calories on the nose. Good distribution of protein/fat/carbs. Weighed in today (once/month), 3 pounds lost. Finally seeing results and, at this rate, I’ll reach my goal in 3 more months. Then I’ll continue with 5/2- in the unlikely event that I lose too much, I’ll go to 6/1. I should swim today. It’s hot enough here in Florida but I had a 3 hour class this am, then shopping for more fruit and vegetables so, a nap seems like a better idea. Good luck and encouragement to all!

    Day 9,Gozo, Malta, NFD

Today I bought my first size 10 (38) bermudas from peacocks. The size 12 was just to big on the waist. However I bought also a pair of jeans at size 12 as the size 10 was just too tight.

I went for a 55 minute walk with my sister in laws and might have ate a little above TDEE today.

    Good night everyone.

    day 9 – Durham – CD

Today is my normal FD but I’ve already done Monday and Wednesday this week plus a 23/1 on Tuesday so I just couldn’t pull it out today. I had 450 calories for breakfast, then nothing until tea time when I had my lazy FD meal (Konjac rice, steamed veggies and soy sauce – about 150 cal and super filling) and, ahem… about 300 calories in chocolate. Oh well. Not nutritionally a great day, but under 1000 so I’m counting it as a CD. Thanks for inventing that term, @at!!

I have to say the konjac rice has been a great find for me – most FDs I liquid fast until tea time then rice and veggies for tea, so always way under 500… plus they’re made of water and soluble fibre so it helps me process the rest of week’s eating too. Btw, I have no commercial interest in konjac roots or any of its products 😉

@strawberriesandcream – thanks for your comment. It is always better to feel like there is someone there with you. I made it in the end – I hope you did too!!

    Day 9, Rocky Mountains, NFD

Yesterday FD went I dont know where…My depression came on with a vengeance after I learned about a horrible cat mutilation relatively close by who knows…horrible living beings…
    Still dealing with it.
So, I dont know…I can only deal with myself if stuff around me is good.

    Day 10 – NFD – Aus

    @at wow and thanks

    Last post Day 9

For those apologising for not having time to read the posts – please don’t, just take care of yourselves, that is the most important task you have to do!
@notmyrealname – I cannot take credit for CD but cannot remember who did mention it first – think it was during the February Challenge…..don’t know about konrad rice – will google to find out more!

second post Day 9, Canada, FD

@at – yes, my apologies, my last post should have said day 9. Evidence of the kind of week I’ve had. Ugh.

I am having a very tough FD – it is ever so cold here as spring continues to evade us, and I’m tired. 2 things that always drive me to comfort food! So far so good on liquids only. It really helps me to see all of your posts though…knowing I’m not alone is a huge boost to the willpower!

Trying hard to stay focused. I haven’t posted my weight or any losses because I simply haven’t weighed in often lately. I’m being diligent, but have hit a plateau. Until I start to see/feel a difference, I won’t stress over the numbers. Just keep swimming……

    Hi All,

No matter what; we’re still doing better than if we hadn’t tried✨😊✨ Keep up the optimistic thoughts and the lbs. will go down. ✨

@at Thank-you so much for adding me on the spreadsheet. I can see you put your time into that! It really cheered me up and helped me to be optimistic!✨😊✨. Thanks for your well wishes for yesterday. I call it a NFD. My calories ended up at 640. Just shy above fasting. That still is better than I would’ve had if I hadn’t been doing the fast days. So it will work out well! ✨😊✨

I know we can’t All and Always have perfect days. But tf we try they tend to average out to be pretty Good! ✨😊✨

    ✨✨✨!

    Day 10 NZ FD
@at fabulous spreadsheet, thankyou. Just one amendment needed I am from Waikato, New Zealand, not Cumbria UK. Just a little hiccup. Fasting today and going well so far, late morning and I have just eaten a small banana.Birthday tomorrow so will definitely not want to fast then!! Have a good weekend everyone.

    2nd post –

fatrabbit – love the recipe. I too wonder what kind of sprouts are needed for the recipe.

ebell13 – sorry you’re having a tough FD. You spoke of staying on liquids okay. One tea I enjoy is mint/chocolate tea. I begin with steeping the mint in the hot water & after that’s done, I add a rounded tsp of chocolate baking powder (Hershey’s or I use Trader Joe’s). I add some stevie & stir. I find it quite tasty. Feels like a treat.

    Spring will come!

    Day 9 Portugal NFD

I was quite mindful of what I ate today. Finished the day with a Black Forest timtam, posted to us by Australian ex-colleagues. Very nice.

Tomorrow I will be doing my third and final fast of the week. I would love to join the little pocket group.

Please copy, paste, add your name then re-post the list for Day 10 FD.
