  • Day 8, Gozo, Malta, NFD

Happy women’s day everyone. Enjoy the day. I went out for breakfast this morning after taking care of my grandson for an hour. I’ll do some more shopping later on today.

    Onwards and downwards.

    Day 8……Florida……. FD

Morning everyone! Another FD for me, I’ve got all you pocket pals along for the journey. I am thankful it Wed. already as I have tomorrow off and plan on spending the day with the honey. We’re taking our youngest, to get shoes and a tux for prom. I really can’t believe in a couple months, I won’t have any more kids in school! Well, high school that is. Wow, time flies when your having fun.
I’m excited for him and his future endeavors, his plan is to go into the police academy. My little man is going to go out and serve and protect our communities. It’s amazing when you are raising them, you sometimes have to wonder if all your teachings get in their brains, if they’ll remember to be kind and gracious, to be humble and thankful. But then in an instance,as they become adults you hear and see all that you tried to instill in them come shining through.

And exhale….. congrats on your victory!

LynZ…… how true was your statement. It is truly amazing how when you first join these forms looking for support and understanding, not only do receive it but you receive so much more. In an odd sense of the word, we all our family!

WTHarvey…… congrats on your first week, you’ve made so many gains. Having energy and focus, is a great side effect. Don’t dispair your clothes and scale will catch up soon.

Ciren and all today’s fasters…… I’ve got all your hands! Tip for the day….. before you put something in your mouth, stop, pause and think.

    Peace be with you!

    Day 8 London FD

Great NFD yesterday, soups for lunch and supper with a couple of treats thrown in (brazil nuts and crisps and very enjoyable they were too!). Was feeling energetic last night so did 20 mins of yoga while the soup maker did it’s thing.

Another wedding invitation turned up yesterday, so that will be 3 weddings this year! Looking forward to treating myself to a new dress once I’m on maintenance.

Scales looking good today and I’m actually enjoying the fast days and the feeling of lightness on these days. In a very short time my appetite has certainly changed – no cravings for sugar or junk foods. (Only salt so I guess I must be a bit dehydrated?)

Food also tastes more vibrant somehow and I can now taste the natural sweetness in sweetcorn, peas, carrots, even iceberg lettuce! – which is wonderful.

I am loving seeing all the updates this morning ;o)

@obesa – congrats on your amazing loss over the last 6 months and last week, what a result. I also love a glass of wine or two, I am planning to try to limit consumption by going for more expensive bottles – that way I won’t drink so much and what I do will be savoured!

@monkeydo – great to hear of all your positive results!

@pamie – sorry to hear about your beautiful tree, what a shame but glad it didn’t damage the house

@jojo58 – Hope your back is improving, You rock those nordic poles!! I often see ladies using them on a stroll around Ealing Common.

@mrsgettingthere – Today is a new day, good luck getting back on track, you can do it!

@bert1802 – what a lovely boy you have raised, you should be very proud!

Good luck @ciren2 and fellow Pocketeers on their FD & to everyone else on NFDs – May we all eat mindfully and stay strong!

    Faye

    Day 8 – FD – CAN
I’m joining the pocketeers today, as we are hosting folks for dinner tomorrow and I can’t very well not eat with them. Mon FD went well, am half-way to my goal for the month as I woke up weighing 137 yesterday, goal for month is 135.
I had quite a moment yesterday NFD, was making pork chops and when they came out of oven I was standing at the counter cutting meat off the chops for the kids (who complain if there is any fat anywhere) and suddenly I just started popping bits in my mouth almost uncontrollably! It was delicious, but I haven’t done anything like that for ages. I felt far too overfull after dinner… which turned what should have been a lovely meal into a bit of a regret really. Shame,
Anyhow, am joining the pocketeers – sign me up!

    Day 3 – FD
Sorry I’ve been a bit slack. Finished work today and the last 10 days have been hard with so much work to leave tied up i haven’t even had the chance to think about the new job i start next week. I have overeaten a little over the last few days but i haven’t made too many terrible choices.
    Good luck everyone

    Day 8 – Durham, UK – FD

I am struggling. Maybe it’s because I only had one meal yesterday (albeit a big one!) after fasting on Monday too… who knows. For the first time ever, I’m not sure I’ll complete this one…

Just trying to get through it and telling myself that tomorrow I will go back to normal NFD.

Grateful for the thought of all you, and the sense of accountability I get from being part of this group. Thanks again, AT, for all the effort of organising.

    Day 8 Maine NFD

Good morning all – struggled a little yesterday – actually had a 2nd piece of fried chicken for dinner…wasn’t ’till after I finished that I remember the no S’S that someone had suggested. I can do better today! Our little cruise starts today – I will be very mindful…my 2nd fast day this week will be fri or sat – will try fri, but if too difficult, will definitely do Sat. Looking forward to settling at our timeshare for 2 weeks – will be able to get back into a routine.

Make it a great day everybody!

    2nd Post Day 8

Back from a great yoga class this morning and its a beautiful warm and sunny spring day here in Cumbria – cheers you up!

A long update for the spreadsheet has just taken place – will wait until the end of today UK time before hopefully posting a link to the spreadsheet for your information and let me know if I need to correct anything – so many of you I’m sure I might have made a mistake or two somewhere………..

I’m feeling the love from all of you thanking me for me “stewardship” of this month – it has been a lot of work so far but also a lot fun and it has been so lovely getting to “know” you all – a special thank you for @lynzm for your very thoughtful message and great news about your personal weight loss and feeling of wellbeing xx

@coda – thinking of you and your family – Stay strong and positive
@pamie – hope the dreadful weather you are experiencing in NZ improves soon – take care
@steffieagle – sounds like you and your OH are doing great on 5:2 and are enjoying life to the full
@schatziii – great to read such a positive post and that the support of the forum is helping
@obesa – well done on the loss and enjoy your spa break – very envious here……
@lany36 – Remember that nothing is stronger than your own desire to succeed!
@fuvvie – you have than got this – small changes eventually add up to huge results!
@beverley8603 – great feeling fitting into those jeans again!
@jojo58 – love the idea of posting triggers for eating mindlessly – it feels good to openly acknowledge this
@chumi – Big welcome to the forum, thanks for the information about you and your journey so far – this is a large forum but full of very supportive and knowledgeable people – any questions just ask and someone will pick up and answer – keep posting daily as it keeps you accountable
@mrsgettingthere – we have all been there – Don’t let a bad day turn into a bad week! Big breath and refocus today!
@cboz – in an earlier post you said Day 1 NFD, Day 2 FD, Day 3 was NFD – did it change to a FD??

Great news for all those reporting a loss or maintenance after this first week – @onahealthyhigh and @obesa stuck out but also everyone else

Some mention problems with snacking after their evening meal – In the February Challenge I think, someone said that they make the kitchen out of bounds after their evening meal except for water/tea – others brush their teeth to stop them snacking – might be worth a try for you……..

To all our Pocketeers today and all those trying to be mindful on their NFD/CD – TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY. IT’S THE ONLY PLACE YOU HAVE TO LIVE – Jim Rohn

Day 7, Chicago, IL USA, NFD
Didn’t do well, had a bridal shower and ate more than I should have.

Day 8, Chicago, IL USA, NFD
Praying God will take away my sugar cravings and overeating. Had a great weight loss last week, this week is not going to be good, as I ate more than I should have thus far and could not work out the first 2 days this week, because I hurt my arm. Hoping to get a work out in today as my arm is feeling better.

Sorry AT typo for Day 3 it was a nfd

    Day 8 – Perth AUS – NFD

    Hello everyone
UK day 8 NFD – feel like I am taking a cold, throat and chest feeling tight, so doing my best to fight it off.

Wondering if I should be doing a 2 pronged attack to catch up, should I read from the the recent posts backwards, as well as reading from where I reached forwards and all being well I should meet in the middle lol. Feel I am somewhat out of the loop so far but I will catch up and not overly concerned as I am still posting daily albeit blindly and I am still keeping on keeping on. Well done on everyone keeping to the challenge and well done, excellent job AT for keeping up.

Day 8, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Well, yesterday’s Fasting Day turned into a bit more of a celebration – of life ! We had a new great granddaughter born yesterday morning, Paisley Mae (sounds rather British, I think). She is, naturally, beautiful. Mom and Dad (my grandson) are exhausted. Mom from 26 hours of hard labor, Dad from no sleep and lots of tears. But, all is well and we are grateful to God for another link in our family chain (7 grandkids, 5 greatgrands ! ) Ended up having an impromptu meal of chicken strips, egg rolls, salad, drinks – it was wonderful but back on the fasting train today !

Did manage to get in all my exercise, however. Today is supposed to be in the 70s, not much wind – I shall go for a nice relaxing walk at lunchtime.

Today’s weight 143, under goal weight of 145.

    To your health, all.

hi – update 2 pronged attack is not going to work – as I don’t know what the replies refer to lol. I’ll just have to read faster! Have a good day x

    2nd post Day 8

Hey fellow pocketeers, I hope we’re all doing well and finding this FD a breeze. I find re-reading my previous posts quite helpful in so far as they’re quite repetitive!!!!! So I can confidently say….’been there, done that’ and know that I came out the other side, unscathed but sooooo much lighter (mentally and physically).

Since starting to post Feb 1st, I see the patterns I’ve formed, good and bad, but re-reading posts means I can ignore my selective memory (Who knew I was such a pessimist!!!) and take heart from the many FD achievements which gave me such a high!!!!!

We really are stronger together……..keep the faith…………we KNOW this works!!!!

    Second post,

Was reading that some of you are suffering from the blues, slight depressions, down in the dumps, etc. We have all been there – the woe is me type of day.

I recently read something that has really stayed with me –

The life that you are complaining about is the life that someone else can only dream to someday have.

My best to each of you.

Congratulations @lindasue wow you must have been a child bride – to have 5 greatgrandchildren. We have not been blessed with any grandchildren as yet but looking forward to it – just hope I am not to old by the time they come along!

Day 8 USA (Illinois) – NFD

I went to see “The Shack” yesterday and had saved calories for the day so I could eat popcorn. It’s like Pavlovian instinct that I must eat popcorn at a movie! MFP says there are 600 calories in a large. I just ate a medium, but wow. That’s a lot.

@debster251 and @fuvvie – interesting discussion on our doctors and if they care about our weight. My guess is that unless we bring it up, they won’t. I was in the same ballpark at 193# a year ago, at the slightly obese level on BMI. I really didn’t want my doctor to say anything, but he sure did notice my loss last December at my annual. I’ve made it to the upper part of normal at 25 BMI, content to stay here.

@Chitowngal – if you’re able to get several days without sugar, the cravings will really abate. It’s those days that can be the struggle! They will never leave you completely because we just love the taste. But I will pray nonetheless for your cravings.

POCKET FASTERS – I’m behind you today!

    Onward and downward!

    DAY 8 – MUNIC, GERMANY – FD

Feel fine today, had a large salad already.🍅🍆🌶

    Day 8- Georgia, USA-NFD

    Day 8 Florida USA FD

Started the day with 1 Egg White and a small corn muffin. Mid-day I’ll have a cup of veggie stir fry with Cauliflower rice, evening will be spiralized zucchini with tomato sauce and 2 chicken meatballs. On a FD I
don’t have wine or any dessert except maybe 2-3 dark chocolate covered raisins with my tea. Hope to take a bike ride today with hubby- my bike is a motorized trike since I have MS. Just the activity of getting out there is an achievement for me. I send encouragement to fellow fasters today!

    Day 8: Gloucestershire, UK: FD
Wow! The list of fasters has grown since I last looked yesterday when it stood at three of us plus AT to cheer us on.
    Stay STRONG everyone.

    Day 8, NFD, US

Finally going down a little – ever so little! – in weight & body fat! Makes me so much more motivated to see something happening. Good luck to everyone!

Sirisan St Louis USA – Day 8 NFD
I’m so enjoying reading post, although there are a lot of them, and getting to know people of that. We all struggle and share those struggles and successes. So helpful.

I do a morning mindfulness and positive affirmation type meditation to get me going. I see others do that as well. I’ve joined the Y and plan to start attending classes there as well I’ve never like machines but may give it a try. I do like using free weights and kettle bells though.

Mondays and Fridays are my fest days and they work the best for me. However, I’m supposed to go to dinner as a farewell for a work colleague tomorrow evening. It’s a fast day and we’re going to the cheesecake factory. I looked up their menu and they have what they call skinny licious meals. I picked out a couple of things I think will keep me pretty close to my fast day requirements. Thought about choosing another day to fast but just doesn’t work. I find that I’m better on days I’m at work and can stay busy, get up later and home a little later. I guess we all find what works for us and then the tips we receive from others here as well.

I looked up cloud bread recipe and plan to try it. I wonder if any of you have tried any of the trim healthy mama recipes. The diet itself didn’t really do it for me but a lot of the recipes seem to fit as they are often gluten-free, sugar-free and healthy.

All my best to all of you.

    Day 8 – USA – FD

I feel like the guy on Ed Sullivan (I’m dating myself, aren’t I?) balancing all the plates on the sticks, but I am getting better as I keep practicing new habits. The hardest has been the concept of 16:8 because of the urge to snack after dinner into the night. I have the time to research now since retiring and I was watching Dr. Berg’s YouTube videos on insulin resistance, etc., which were fascinating. I’m going to try to switch to foods that have the lower insulin percentages, as my education so far has been to eat high glycemic carby stuff. Very grateful for the forum and all the ideas about food and this WOL.

Second post for today. I don’t quite understand the pocket list concept. Perhaps I missed it when I look through the frequently asked questions. Could someone explain that to be? Thanks

    Day 8 Canada NFD

@sirisan I think that the pocket list concept refers to a group of people, who on the thread they post too, write/commit with their typed entry that they will be in your back pocket for the day? because they are doing a fastday on the same day as you? So, if you find your resolve weakening, you can think of them(?)

    Day 8 Portugal FD

Hi pocketeers, you have been keeping me going today as I have thought of you at various points during the day. Now is that time when I most want to nibble but I won’t! I have made some homemade vegetable soup for dinner and I might have a little homemade bread roll as well. Should come in under the 500.

I did some strength training this am. I find when I exercise early in the day, it puts me in a good frame of mind for eating healthily or fasting.

Let’s keep going, fellow fasters, and enjoy your NFD all who are not fasting today.

No headaches today. Thanks to those who commented, I can’t scroll back or I’ll lose this message. I think on Monday it hah a lot to do with not enough water during day and withdrawal from sugar especially after a sugar packed weekend.

Day 8 – SW WA USA – NFD

    Another 16:8 planned.

So enjoying the posts but will have to finish catching up later.

Schatziii & WT Harvey glad you’re enjoying the benefits of 5:2 already.

Fasters, may you keep strong! And us Non-fasters may we keep mindful.

Day 8–Mass, USA–NFD. Coming off of two days of fasting, and feel very little hunger. Pretty incredible. I’ve definitely noticed that tea helps a lot with dealing with hunger on fast days, as I know many of you have commented on also. Yogi Tea has a variety called “Healthy Fasting” that I like a lot. It has a little spice too it that is satisfying. Anyway, good luck to everyone today!

    Day 8,Canada, NFD

    Weighed and measured this a.m.-happy to report a 3lb, 5″ loss☺.

Someone posted this quote on another post (sorry can’t recall who) but it comes to mind when I start to feel a bit sorry for myself.

“Being fat is hard. Dieting is hard. Choose your ‘hard’.”

Good luck to all the pocketeers today!

Day 8, London UK, not sure if FD or NFD
I’m not feeling well and have eaten little today, so I’m thinking of making it a NFD. Weight loss was good in 1st week – 4 lbs but I’m suffering from very bad heartburn – it’s keeping me awake at night. I like the suggestion of drinking tea – perhaps I should try green tea or peppermint tea.

Day 8, Rocky Mountains, US, FD

Hello Pocketeers and all who are doing a NFD today,

I was looking forward to our FD but I cannot enjoy it because I have such a headache that actually is bordering on being a migraine as I am a bit nauseated. I did not do anything different yesterday, drank more than 80 oz but something is definitely off.
    Still will continue my FD.

All the best to all of us!!!

    Day 8 – Bamberg, Germany – NFD

    @helenalee

Sorry you’re not your best. Try Peppermint, it’s supposed to be great for digestion. It works for me.

    @lindasue

Oof. You reminded me of one of my favourite poems on exactly that:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TWZY14tGsU

    Enjoy!!

    Day 8: Glasgow, Scotland.

Well, damn it all to damnation. For the first time in 4 weeks of dieting (and 8 days on the FD), I fell (spectacularly!) off the wagon yesterday. I started off well on my FD, then sometime around 5pm, my body just went into ravenous ‘feed me now!’ mode, so I set about eating everything that wasn’t nailed down. It was ‘hello gigantic portion of bolognaise sauce!’, followed by ‘well, aren’t you lovely, you great big bowl of sugary muesli with banana on top?!’. The finale was a slightly battered looking Magnum that I found in the depths of the freezer.

I’m back on track today, but I think the problem was that I haven’t been eating my full allowance of 1,600 calories on NFDs – and my system just decided to send me an overwhelming message to feed it – so I did! Not discouraged – I’m back on it today, and I’ll be more careful not to eat too little on NFDs.

I hope all of you are doing great, and continue to head towards your goals (whatever they are!)

Thank you for the link to The Skip, Johnny. I did indeed enjoy it.

@ratatouille. Thank you for explanation of the pocket list. Kind of what I thought but wanted to check. Think I might try that tomorrow when I’m fasting, especially since I’m going out tomorrow evening with friends and planning to stick with my fast.

    Day 8 Massachusetts, USA FD

FD was supposed to be tomorrow but I have family coming from out of town for lunch and I really want to eat with them. I think that is what I am going to enjoy most about this 5:2, the flexibility to make it work for your schedule.

FDs have become easy after only a little over a week doing 5:2. I actually enjoy the little bit of empty stomach feeling and think of it as my body using up stored calories/fat.

Good job everyone so far. Those finding the FDs hard to finish, keep trying and I’m sure you will find it gets easier. My first one was brutal, but I stuck it out and each one after has been easier than the last.

    Day 8 – Bamberg, Germany – NFD

Although I’m struggling everyday with hunger attacks and it doesn’t really work out right, I’m very happy that I’ve found this forum, it’s just so good to know that I’m not alone with this.

I’ve eaten way too much again today, still find it so hard to control myself while eating.
How do you all manage these terrible hunger attacks? What’s the trick?

I wish you all good luck!

    Day 8 Surrey UK NFD

Everything was going to plan until after lunch when one of my colleagues opened the biscuit tin. I’m so annoyed with myself for being tempted 😡 I got home after work and promptly ate some crackers and cheese too. Why oh why did I succumb, I’m so angry. My next fast day will be Friday so I must not be tempted tomorrow.

I keep seeing posts about doing 16/18 or 24/22 – can someone explain what that means please?

Good luck to all the faster tomorrow.

    Day 8 uk 2nd post!

So far a controlled day! Pork chop and veg for supper with fruit to follow.

Hope pocketeers have stayed strong today, but if you have don’t beat yourself up and make it worse, we’ve all been there and tomorrow is a new day. x

@debster you’re right it’s all about the wedding photos! plus of course the exhusband and his wife!!

@coda hope your cold doesn’t progress, I’ve had one for a couple days and it’s rotten!
@lindasue such a true saying, I’ve written it down to remind me when I get low, thank you.
@johnnyr thanks for link to The Skip poem, very good.
@sirisan I also find mindfulness and positive affermations have been very helpful ovr the past month, getting me out of the doldrums and back to being feeling in control. Also back posting on this thread!

I would normally fast tomorrow but am out for lunch I’ll try to be mindful and see if I can stay low cal, they do fab salads so may be ok!

    Onward and down!!

    Day 8 | FD | UK

Going well so far, hoping to eat in an hr or so.
    Hope other Pocketeers have/are winning.

    2nd post

Agghhh – today has been such a struggle but managed to get through to 5pm before eating, by reading every post as it pinged through on my phone and focussing my thoughts on my fellow fasters and those of you feeling the struggle today.

@notmyrealname – reading about your struggle helped me to hang on – thanks. @emma1956 – glad you’re not dwelling on your wagon episode yesterday. I think you both have helped me identify that having fasted Monday and not eaten up to TDEE yesterday, my body was really feeling the lack of food today.

All the best for the remainder of today’s fast everyone.

I’m late joining (just found this group, but would like to jump in for March!

    March 1 NFD
    March 2 FD
    March 3 FD
    March 4 NFD
    March 5 FD
    March 6 FD
    March 7 NFD
    March 8 FD
    Day 8 Pennsylvania USA FD

    Weighed March 6 181 lbs. 82 kg
Goal weight for March 171 lbs. 78 kg
Goal for end of June is 131 lbs. 59.4 kg

I started last night and today as a Fast Day. I only had 100 calorie mixed strawberry and lettuce drink small amount of plain unsweetened yogurt. (mixed with my Ninja) doing good. I usually don’t eat, or don’t have dinner on my fast days. Today I’m going to fix Philadelphia hash for dinner for Husband and children. Dangerous territory for me. It might turn into a NFD. I will keep my portion small. 😊 I hope it works.

I’d love to be included as one of the Pocketeers✨I haven’t figured out how to copy the list and repost so I can put my name on it✨ I swear I think my mental bio rhythms are down today🤣

Go Go Go ✨Onward and down Pocketeers👏👏👏✨🌈✨

    Day 9 – New Zealand – NFD

Weigh-in days are Thursdays. Down 1.3 kg this week.

Day 8 Placentia Ca. NFD. Not sure what this pocketteers thing is. There are so many posts I can’t keep up if I click the notify me box. I will now and hope that someone can fill me in. Anyway I’m finding this a great thing for me. FDs are Monday and Thursday and I look forward to them. Of course I am only a few weeks in soooooo. I have only list 1 or 2 lbs though. That may be normal but I still wish it were more. NFDs seem to be getting better too. I’m not eating too much on them. Happy International Women’s Day!
