Day 7, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD
Hello all, things are going well. Felt very tired yesterday afternoon but after I got home and fed/played with the horses, exercised, ate, had a hot bubble bath and slept well (considering we were under a tornado warning) – feel great today!
Current weight 143, below goal weight of 145.
To your health, all.
DAY 7 NFD St Louis US
Yesterday was my second fast day for this March challenge and third fast day since I started back on 5/2. Yesterday was a little more difficult. I had to get up earlier for my day and realized that makes it more challenging. I weighed in this morning at 145.6 pounds which is down from starting weight of 148 but up .6 from what I had lost since last FD. Thank you tonthose who suggested stay more water as that has helped. I want to check out the cloud bread that was mentioned here. I like that people acknowledge one aother as it feels more of a community. I want to start writing down names so I can do that as well.
We had storms and tornado warnings last night. I typically just go to bed and sleep through it and I was so tired from casting although there were some pretty serious turn Ito’s and both Missouri and Ellen and I over the weekend with the loss of life. Glad we are all safe today.
All my best.
Day 7, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD
Hi all,
Congrats to all successful Monday fasters. I wanted to be one of you but my FD yesterday turned into a NFD. Stayed below my TDEE but it was not a FD. Winter coming back was a trigger and I wanted to eat. Well, at least it was a CD.
Well, onwards, today is a new day!
All the best and ciao!!! 😊😊😊
Thanks AT 😀
@jojo58 – I love anything with carbs 😵 I’m terrible. So things with rice, beans, potato, parsnips, you get the idea 😻
I have made:
1. Middle Eastern chickpea salad (sounds scant but it filled a large Pyrex mixing bowl and was very filling) – 420 cals
2. Chilli-con-beanie (my vegetarian chilli-con-carne recipe) with a baked potato – 450 cals
3. Caribbean stew with flageolet beans, green beans and coconut milk, with a baked sweet potato – 500 cals
I’m going to aim to fill my new blank recipe book with 5:2 dinners. Going to try and think of something different to do each FD.
Day 7, Winnipeg Canada, FD #2
Good morning from chilly Winterpeg!
Yesterday was going to be a 500 calorie day for me, but I ate an apple at lunch time, and then was so busy until nearly 9:00 pm that I didn’t have time for dinner, so I skipped it and went to bed. It makes a world of difference for me to be busy/preoccupied.
Today was going to be a liquid FD, but after yesterday, I don’t think I’d make it through. Nothing but tea and black coffee so far, but planning zoodles (courgetti) with lean ground beef and pasta sauce for dinner tonight. Can’t wait…so hungry!
Much needed NFD tomorrow, but my goal is no more than 1200 calories – less than my TDEE, but I’m trying to kick it into gear now as summer draws near.
Stay strong everyone, and have a great day!
Day 6 FD
Day 7 ,Canada, FD
@pclpo well done, you are on you way👍
@ebel13 stay warm today. Will this winter never end? I am in Vancouver area and usually by now we are having to cut the grass. But have had snow for the last 3 days. Not nearly what you are contending with though, I know!
@in it to thin it, I have family on Vancouver Island…I have heard about the unusual snowfall amounts this year! We are used to the frigid temps and lots of snow on the prairies, but by this time of year, I think anywhere in Canada, we’re all ready for some warm, sunny weather. Nearly there! Cold weather makes me crave comfort food, so that will also improve once temps climb. Off to AZ late next week…can’t wait!!!
Day 7 Florida USA NFD
My best ideas are carb substitutes like Cauliflower mash or Cauliflower rice, spiralized zucchini or sweet potato noodles-all are more delicious and nutritious than the traditional potatoes, rice, or pasta. Keeping my NFD’s nutrition rich and calorie poor I hope will get me off a plateau. My BMI is just within the normal range but with Multiple Sclerosis I’m relatively sedentary (I can do yoga and swimming) so I must keep my weight down to move well. Wishing everyone well today, whether FD or NFD. Making plans for FD’s tomorrow and Saturday.
Debater251,
I have small cup of milk Kefir 30 mins before my morning cuppa and small cup before going to bed and cleaning teeth. Yesterday I added coconut flakes for a change of flavour, it was nice. You can add fruit, especially banana, vanilla and even rum Or coffee but it is not recommended to heat it as it kills the beneficial bacteria. I have a mug of water Kefir, Ginger flavour mid afternoon instead of a hot drink.
Most importantly you must consider the improvements to your health. It detoxifies your body and improves your immunity to germs. Plus it improves hair, skin, nails and mood- seriously good product. We all know prevention is better than cure. In terms of weight loss it has proven scientifically results for slimmers, Michael Mosely did a programme about it.
@ciren2 I’ll be fasting tomorrow too so will be in good company! Let’s do it!

Day 7 : Cheshire, UK : NFD
Yesterday, I went over my 500 cals and today I just succumbed to sugar. I can feel myself oscillating between feeling guilty, berating myself and knowing that there is some logic to my madness. On Sunday, it was Lindt chocolate. It used to be my favourite chocolate but after eating what used to be an ok amount for me, I find that I really didn’t particularly like or enjoy eating it. Today, I’ve been eating sweets and I feel something, not as strong, but it’s there in that eating them wasn’t as enjoyable as I’d expected.
About 13 years ago, I gave up alcohol; something I thought I would never do, yet it just fell away from me as I became serious about my daily meditation and spiritual path. I did have a subtle aspiration and curiosity about what it would be like to give it up. I feel something similar to sugar, in that I have an aspiration to give up sugar and I feel the overindulgence is my way of moving towards giving it up. I’m not quite there but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Btw, when I drank alcohol, I wasn’t interested in sweets, chocolate or cakes that happened when I gave up alcohol, I suppose replacing the sugar in alcohol. So this is such a ‘spiritual’ journey in that it isn’t about losing weight but more about why I eat what I do and learning to take care of myself and nurture myself in ‘healthy’ ways.
I’m feeling stuffed and bloated. I intend to read all my replies from different challenges to see how far I have come emotionally and mentally. The physical change is just a by-product of this new way of living.
Thank you for listening my friends. I’m so grateful that I found you…..thank you in particular to @coda, you carry such a beautiful aspiration and energy that shines through to any thread that you are part of and that energy spreads to all of us.
Much love xoxo 🙂
Day 7, USA, NFD
Okay FD yesterday, but 5:00 is my weakness, so instead of making my 400 calorie (had 100 calorie Kefir already in the morning) meal and eating it with the family, I ate it standing up. Don’t you hate that — bad habits are hard to break. What a pig I was — especially I preach to my kids to eat sitting down and enjoy it. So, must work on that one, as it was kind of a buzz kill eating my chicken and broccoli standing at the sink cooking. I so know why some of you eat a frozen meal then — because it’s so compact and counted out and made! I think I’ll honestly try preparing it the night before, so this doesn’t happen again.
Scale today stayed the same since the beginning of the challenge — meh; BUT, it’s day 1 of my glorious period — YES, so perhaps an explanation and the scale will drop after I have some “relief.” gosh, it men only knew what we put up with each month…..
@ciren2 – I’m with you tomorrow. Having your hand to hold has helped me many a day, so I’m happy to help when you’re having a wobble too!

Second post:
@fuvvie, @at and all the others who witnessed my little meltdown this morning, it has returned, the post has returned (not earthshatteringly important in content, so don’t go back looking for it even if you were so inclined, but it’s made a reappearance, yippie)!
@bert I can’t wait for that changing room-experience!!! (and I’m usually not one to use three exclamation marks in a row)
For a second I thought we had jumped from 18 pages this morning to 27–until I realised I was in the Weight Loss section, pheww.
Quick little update of my official post-FD weigh in: not a shred of difference, meh meh! Still standing at 68.7kg. I guess I should be happy that I’ve maintained the weight, still a bit miffed.
Today’s NFD has left me quite unsatsified and famished even. It has been fairly controlled so far, the only deviation from meal times was a little white mocha without any other trimmings in the afternoon sun. Not one of these Starbuck bombs whose actual calorie intake make rounds on the internet, but I’m not gonna kid myself. Up now a delicious salad, cause the salad has to go, before, maybe, some Skyr with some lemon curd mixed in. Not great but fairly under control I hope.
Day 7 – USA – NFD
Second post – @ciren2, I got your back as I also will be doing a FD tomorrow
Day 7 Portugal NFD
Could have been a better day. I reckon I am well over tdee. Healthy meals but snacked around 4:30 on cookies and nuts! But I am in for the fast tomorrow.

Day 7– NFD– Virginia, USA
I had a FD yesterday and was able to wait until dinner to eat, tried to drink water all day but was way under my goal. It felt great -DH doesn’t get it- this morning after I had breakfast my heart rate went crazy, has that happened to anyone? Maybe I had more carbs than my body could deal with after a FD?
Trying to catch up with all the posts, it’s awesome to have such an amazing group!. To those fasting, stay strong, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
My goal for this month is to hit 170 lbs or less, drink 80 oz of water a day, exercise at least 4 days a week, 10k steps a day and the most important stay happy, I’ve been a little depressed the last couple of months, don’t know why but I’m ready to kick this depression’s butt! 5:2 is helping more than I thought and this group is great help! Thank you all!
“@johnnyr – nice to hear from you and re your sleep issues – someone mentioned taking Magnesium Citrate as it is easily absorbed, but Mag Maleate is good too, and it helped them.
Thanks for the advice. Aren’t those the substances Kim Jong-Un used to murder his half brother the other week? 😉
Do I get them at a pharmacy or a healthy shop? My supplements experience runs to Vitamin C fizzy things, multi-vit horse-sized tablets and Omega 3 shiny clear things that are shaped so that you’re never quite sure whether you should eat them or put them somewhere else…
2nd post
I managed to continue my fast til supper of salad and omelet followed by kafer with blueberries, yum.
Sorry no time to thoroughly read posts and reply I need to make notes as I read them!
Got a stinking cold, first for this winter, feeling rough but wont deter me from being mindful! Control day tomorrow.
Good luck every one x
Day 8/NFD/Aus
Ummed and aahhed about making today a FD. Decided to have a calorie stocktake day instead. Planning to weigh, measure and count calories to check not over eating on NFDs.
Converted total weight lost from kgs to lbs. Lost a whopping 42.1 pounds! I’m giving myself a life time membership of 5:2. Afterall I’ve stayed undergoal for way longer than a lifetime membership of another well known organisation.
@ciren2 Adding myself to the list of pocketeers. My tomorrow overlaps with your today. I’ll pop you under my pillow for support during your day and carry you round in my pocket whilst you sleep. If that makes sense.
@at my DH and I eat the same food on FDs too, except I don’t eat the carbs. DH was an obese child. He lost heaps of weight when he was a teenager and has maintained for over 44 years. It can be done!
Caring for grandchildren does upset this WOL. Hence the current blip in my weight. It coincided with 3 months caring for them. Sorry I can’t remember who posted.
@marie Anne – I’m convinced fasting releases endorphins. Hence my user name onahealthyhigh. If I’d known I’d be stuck with it I might have chosen differently!
@bert1802 – I’m with you. I love shopping for new clothes. Thrifting/charity/op shopping is my new passion.
@coda – I’ve been following you for over a year. It’s comforting to find you on a thread.
@dykask – Thank you for your reply re blood sugar and for your post on fruit. I’m also not convinced that the sugars in fruit are as bad as eating refined carbs. Fruit is an important part of maintaining a healthy gut as you said. The recommendation to eat 2 pieces a day isn’t excessive and you can choose a variety that’s lower in sugar if you wish. It reminds me of demonising eggs to reduce cholesterol.
@micheleas – I do a combination of 6:1 and 16:8 to maintain. But since I’m in it for health benefits I’m going to follow @at and revert to 5:2 plus 16:8. Not a big fan of eating first thing in the morning nor counting calories.
@august2024 – I weigh after my 2nd FD when trying to lose weight. I aim to maintain the lower figure on NFDs. This keeps me focussed.
@nw1990 – @and… exhale – love vegetarian chilli. I cooked a brilliant one yesterday. We ate it with toasted polenta and a fresh herb and cheese gremolata, a squeeze of lime and a dollop of yoghurt. Absolutely yum.
@goldensun – Very impressed with your strength.

2nd post,
I spoke too soon re: ADF last FD, so this time I’m jumping into your pockets & I will complete this FD and I will listen to my body in future and settle for a minimum 5:2, in order to avoid the slippery carb slope……… Simples!!!
I really need to focus on this list when the going gets tough!!

Day 7 – SW WA USA – NFD
Making it a 16:8
Yes, Sirasan, it is a very supportive group we are part of. It helps with the journey!
All of us keeping colder than usual climate wise, spring will eventually come. We had our 11th snow day yesterday. I’m just north of Portland in SW Washington state. Snow is not usually part of things here either. My family in the Vancouver, BC area have been getting a lot more than normal also. Spring will be welcome.
Day 7, UK, NFD
Successful FD yesterday and really surprised i wasnt very hungry today and almost ended up having a FD again (back to back, never thought i could do it!) – maybe something to do with the glass of warm lemon water i drank first thing in the morning, it did make me feel full and hydrated for a few hours. I have also been using konjac noodles for dinner which have virtually no calories – good trick for FDs, along with frozen berries (defrosted!).
Felt a bit distracted throughout the day but nothing too worrying work-wise. Looking forward to a big breakfast in the morning! Got some nice rye bread and brie mmmm 🙂
I hope everyone is doing well! I definitely owe my perseverance to this forum and you lot, so thank you xx
Okay, I’m in for tomorrow – after holding out all day, tea at the pub turned out to be steak and chips with a glass of wine… so I’m going to try B2B weds/thurs to recover…

Had a very busy two days. I am going to fast tomorrow and I will join with the Pocketeers. I am having a dinner party tonight for my husband’s birthday. I will need the fast day tomorrow to get back on track. I will catch up with the posts from the last two days to keep me in the loop.
