  • Day 6 – Cumbria UK – FD

Good morning from a sunny Cumbria – ready for a strong FD today after a somewhat over indulgent week end (not my worst mind you!!) so today will be a water/tea with a dash of skimmed milk FD for me.
I have come to realise that I love fasting on Mondays as it works as a real resetting for my mindset for the rest of the week.

@teresanursecoach – Welcome to the 31 Day March 2017 Challenge – we are a big and friendly group with everyone at different stages of their 5:2 WOL and some on maintenance as well. Share as much or as little as you feel like but you will have great support here. It would be helpful for me if you could start your daily post with the day of the month, where you are, and if you are doing a FD (Fast day) or a NFD (Non Fast Day). Example today for me would be Day 6 – Cumbria UK – FD. Add more to your daily post or not as you please. If you don’t sign in daily then just update at the start of your post whether each day since you last signed in was a FD or NFD – makes updating the spreadsheet a bit easier – Thanks

@mogaman – Well done on getting back on the wagon and your first FD under your belt – the support of posting daily and reading other posts cannot be underestimated. You mentioned losing weight previously following 5:2 – can I ask did you regain weight as a result of stopping the 5:2 lifestyle i.e still doing 2 x FD each week?
@arvandee – I do like a glass or two of bubbly as well!!! when catching up with friends it would be rude not to!
@1maureen – Great control at the baby shower!
@rocy65 – welcome back! I have added you to the list of pocketeers
@lew – We have got you for this FD today – you are on our list of pocketeers too!

I have added others who said they were fasting today to the list of “Pocketeers”

Today we have a big group of FASTERS so as @dykask said in an earlier post “Let’s make the day count!”

    Day 6, UK, FD.

I went to bed with a headache and have woken with one. I don’t get headaches on FDs so I think it may be because I went over my TDEE days before my B2B FDs and had way too much sugar. So I think my headaches are sugar withdrawal related.

Again, my FDs pass without incident and I’m remarkably focused and committed. It’s almost like I’m challenging my self discipline and resolve. Why can’t I do this and stick to my TDEE on NFDs??

    Have a good Monday all.

    Day 6 UK FD 🌈

    Hello,

I’m in the pocket today. FD, usually a work day for me but I have 2 days off so it’s going to be a gym day. Waiting in for a delivery, have my gym stuff on so once that arrives I’m going. Need to keep busy.

I am drinking warm water and lemon all day, then will have a meal later, chicken ready to cook.

WW (waist whittle) exercise done. I don’t hula hoop so use kettle bell. See the result at end of the month hopefully.

Have a good day all, one for all for one my Pocketeers! ⚔️

    Day 6 – London – FD

Day 6 FD completed successfully down under. Will pop my fellow Pocketeers list under my pillow in moral support. Together we are stronger.

    Day 5 Berkshire UK NFD
    Day 6 FD
Despite going a bit mad at the weekend well, slightly, have not gained anything. I shall do an official weigh in on Wednesday.

Day 6, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Current Weight 142.6, Below goal weight of 145.

Back to the first of three fasting days – from 7 p.m. at night until 7 p.m. the following night with only a 500 calorie meal each evening. I love fasting because it easily answers the questions, Hmm – what shall I eat for breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, etc. etc. etc., hmm – that would be nothing.

Been getting in all my exercise and water, feeling great.

Hoping the same for each of you.

count me in started the fast diet today have not eaten since 6.30 last night and about to have 2 wheatabix with skimmed milk then a apple this after noon then a big tuns salad fingers crossed

    Day 6…..Florida…… FD

I way over did it in the food category yesterday, so, I am really looking forward to today fast. I’m not upset about going overboard, I knew I was doing it and did it anyways. To top it all off, I didn’t do my ACV either, that one I actually kind of forgot about it.
But my belly is a bit upset at me this morning, but I know for me sometimes, I’ve just got to have a aww screw it day. Yesterday, was that day. I do not think it was a matter of me giving up or even self sabotaging. I think it was just a serving of reminder of why, I do what I do.
Sometimes, I truly forget all the aches and pains, the bloated belly, the tiredness that my old diet gave me. Believe me, it’s not that I missed my old diet because I normally don’t even think about it.
But, I do feel renewed this morning and quite determined to get back to what has served me so well the last couple months.

Last night after it was all said and done, I did go back and remind myself off where I came from. I put on a pair of pants, that in all actuality should be given away. They are just way to big. I feel bad about giving them away, as I had just bought them a week or two before my diet change. Then, I read through some of my earliest posts. I weighed a whopping 165.6lbs. Reading over them, I really could see the fat girl in the room. 20lbs gone and the fat girl is gone and the real me stands before you.

I feel wonderful, sexy and confident. I’m enjoying shopping again and I’m so enjoying the sexy little underwear, I’ve bought myself in the last couple weeks. No more granny panties to hide the fat!
I have also returned to do something, I love. I went back to tanning! I do know, it’s not good for me but I love the heat on my skin and the smell of a nice tanning lotion! I haven’t tanned since I was in my late 20’s, the last time, I felt sexy and confident.

Okay, I think, I’m just rambling now and I may have gotten a bit of track as well. Welcome to my Monday.
Pocketers…… you have been put in my pocket, stay safe and have resolve we can do this. We are a team, strong, powerful and capable!

    Peace be with you!

    Day 6 – FD – Canada
I’m fasting today – add me to the group please! Generally I fast M & Th but this week due to social things I’ll be fasting M & W. I second @bert1802 feel-good message, I feel so much more confident and pleased with my body these days. I wish the same for all of you 🙂
Have started the day with hot lemon water, iron, and mini breathing meditation. Plan to do HIT on the elliptical this aft, will have boiled egg & salad for lunch and my Asian veggie chicken broth soup for dinner.

    Day 6 Second Post

Phew made it to lunchtime! Eating a small prawn salad to set me up for the afternoon. Keep going today everyone, you CAN do it.

    Day6 Main FD

Good Morning All & good luck today, fasters! We’ve got this…I love the feeling at the end of a fast day….so empowered!

@jojo58 – hope your back heals quickly – make sure to give it some rest time! Can really affect your quality of life!

Make it a great day everybody!

Day 6– FD — Virginia, USA

I’ve been looking for the ACV drink recipe someone posted before but can’t find it. Please post if you have it handy! 🙂

    WE CAN DO IT!

    Day 6 – Bamberg, Germany – FD

Not very successful today..have eaten all my 500 calories (or even more?) for breakfast. 😣 I hope that’s all for today!!

Day 6- Georgia, USA – FD: Coffee and Tea for me today. Down 3 lbs. so far. Gonna try for 5 more this month.

    Day 6 – Switzerland – FD

Only just got online so have missed the pocket-list, but am there in spirit with everyone fasting today. Stick with it everyone – let’s see it through!

    Day 6 – USA(Illinois) NFD

Terrific FD yesterday has gotten me back under my maintenance weight, down to 159.4 this morning. Avoided food until around 5 p.m. and had crab salad and some 7 layer salad. Figured that to be about 450 calories. Forgot to eat my daily apple. Oh well.

Today I will be controlled. Silver Sneakers class this morning and Choral Society tonight.

Indeed it would be wonderful to visit all my fellow musicians, organists and singers. Perhaps we can post something to YouTube of us that we could ‘see’ each other? Let’s think about it!

@bert – I too tried on a pair of my favorite spring pants from last year. They fell off! The waist was at least 5″ too big. I have decided to give them along with lots of other spring items to Goodwill, and I’ve also ordered a new similar pair from Chico’s. The old ones were 16’s and new ones are 12’s. YEAH! My music contest pay from Saturday is helping my wardrobe. 🙂

@curlytot – I am with you on my resolve on FD’s. Been that way since the beginning. It’s those dern NFD’s that can be a big downfall. That is why I have stayed here on these challenges to keep from going completely off the track after all this hard work.

@NellaJimenez – I put 2 tablespoons in WARM (not hot) filtered water. Make sure to shake up the vinegar to get it well mixed. Usually I like to add 1 T. of honey as well. For inflammation help they suggest 1/2 t. of turmeric with a little cayenne pepper. Lately I have been leaving them off though as that adds too much flavor I dislike.

PocketFasters! You’re strong and capable, and so many of you banding together is terrific!

    Onward and downward!

    Day 6, Cumbria UK, FD
Trying to stay busy and keep a good amount of calories for this evening’s meal.
I’m itching to have a sneaky peak at the scales but I’ll try and hold off until Friday😇 definitely feeling slimmer and more energetic.good luck everyone xxx

    2nd post
Thankyou for adding me to the pocketeers, wow what a great list I can feel the supporting vibes from around the world!! Together we can do this!

I’m doing well just a cup of tea splash of soya milk, green tea with cider vinegar and sparkling mimeral water. I think I’ll go for the hot water and lemon option next! I’ve kept busy, cleaned the house and done the ironing! Next is a visit to MIL and the dentist. Currently my OH has his lunch of pate and toast, then I see a slice of the fruit cake I made yesterday (sugar free, but he doesn’t know!!) and a rock bun also made yesterday!
I will have chicken and a big salad later.
Good luck everyone stick with us!

    Massachusetts/USA/FD.

Day 6, Chicago, IL USA – FD

Weighed myself on Saturday after my Friday fast day and lost 4 pounds! Current weight is 147. Did the 5:2 diet in combination with Weight Watchers point plus system. Ate pretty bad on Saturday and Sunday, but hoping not to slip so bad next time.

    Day 6, Germany, FD

    2nd post

    Day 6 – FD – Hampshire, UK

    Hello to everyone :0)

I have long suspected that there is a time lag between my activities and what the scales say and last Saturday’s weigh-in is proof of that!

During the last week of Feb, I only did one FD instead of two. Yet on my last weigh in of February (Fri 24th) I was still showing as having lost one pound during the week – which is great considering I only did one FD that week!

However, I then weighed myself one week later (on Saturday 4th March) and I had gained 1/3 lb! I think this is purely down to the fact that I missed one of my FDs at the end of February, but the scales take time to catch up with what happened!

Something I have learned from doing 5:2 is to think of calories PER WEEK (or over a period of time) instead of calories per day. I learned this from simcoeluv’s excellent post and it has really helped me.

Today is a FD for me and so I am hoping to see some downwards progression on the scales again by next Friday. I am three pounds away from my target weight!

    Day 6 Surrey, UK FD

Just read today’s posts. So inspiring. Monday is obviously a very popular day for fasting!!

I’m having a bit of a stressful work day so am doubly pleased with myself for sticking to the FD so far. Just having half a carton of skinny soup which is going down very well!! I’m planning to have the other half just before I leave work at 5, walk 3.5 miles to do a yoga class then home for some poached salmon and salad. Sounds great so I really hope I make it.

I’m still planning on 3 FDs this week for the first time so fingers crossed.

Thank you all world wide for the support.

    Second post:-

Thanks @at for saying that you think I am probably allowed to post the below as I didn’t want to inadvertently break any rules!

I just came across this great diagram showing the benefits of IF.

It is on Dr Mercola’s site (I don’t know if we are allowed to mention names, hence please feel free to remove if not!)

The reason I wanted to post it is that even though we all know the benefits of IF (or we wouldn’t be here) it is always nice to see a visual reminder – these reminders keep me going!

    So here it is:
    http://www.mercola.com/infographics/intermittent-fasting.htm

Moderators – let me know if this is not allowed! I won’t be offended! (But please don’t chuck me off the site altogether!)

    Day 6|Toronto|FD planned
An FD evolved yesterday so I will try a Back to Back today for the first time. Sleepless last night after the FD so not 100% this morning. Best to all.

Day 4 and Day 5 were NFD

Day 6 FD – Chicago, IL USA

    Sirisan St Louis US
    DAY 6 FD

    Day 5 | NFD | UK

    Day 6 | FD | UK
Reset day – going for a walk later with the ladies

    Happy Monday everyone!

    Day 6 USA FD

@fivetwofan5252 – we routinely do post other websites (information, recipes, etc.) and no one has ever minded as long as it isn’t promoting some business. I think the more we can help each other, the better!

That Mercola site seems to encourage 18:6 form of IF that I know has worked for lots of people to lose weight. I don’t think I want to do that every day, and many of us find the 5:2 form to work for us.

Good to see new ideas and help!

    2nd post

Thank you @at for adding me to the list of fasters. I really want to make it through. I always get hungry mid afternoon so must keep busy.

Cannot shift horrible headache. Cant remember who mentioned it above, but could it be from sugar withdrawal? I know once I eat evening meal it will probably disappear.

C’mon Monday fasters. We can do it!

    Hi Everyone,
I Enjoy the posts in the group they motivate me to stay on track.😊
@at Thanks for initiating the group!🌈✨

    @at 😊✨⚡️✨🌈🌟
Day 6 – Pennsylvania USA- FD

    Day 6 Florida, USA NFD

I regained the weight by doing the 5/2 only intermittently, not as a way of life. I re-committed in October 2016 but I wasn’t recording food intake on NFD’s. That hasn’t worked. I recently bought a Spiralizer (40$) and make zucchini or sweet potato noodles instead of pasta-delicious. I’m married to an Italian too and he’s okay with it (he can have his pasta when we’re out). I don’t own a scale so I’ll be going to the YMCA once/month to weigh in. I don’t believe in daily weigh in. I’m at 130 lb and my goal is 118 lb. I did it before and I can do it again! Kudos to all of you for committing to health.

    @erika45
My daughter and I both get headaches if we haven’t had about 2.5 full glasses of water a day. Especially If we have coffee. They say to drink 2 cups of water for every 1 cup of coffee additional to the extra 2.5 cups of water.

Also withdrawal from sugar always give us headaches.

I like to start my fast in the morning, because the body goes into fast mode over night. By the morning or afternoon any excess sugar issues seems to “burn away”. When I go into fasting mode I also have less dizziness and headaches. Walking will kick in the fat burning; ketosis into gear for me and I end up feeling much better and calmer than if I stayed on the “sugar rollercoaster”. Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad I can eat what I want on NFD but I always go through a withdrawal period. (Withdrawing from sugar and carbs, the sugar withdrawal gives me a headache for a while. The Carbs cause me to want to eat more🙄.

I hope the water and possibly waking might help you as it does me.✨😊🤗

    @songbirdme

Yes, I agree, I stick with plain old 5:2 as it is uncomplicated and it works for me!

When I get to maintenance stage, I might experiment with “window” fasting (18/6) – who knows…! But for now 5:2 is my preferred approach.

@erika45 – I have developed headaches on FDs in the past.
Here is some common advice that you will read on the forum (I am just re-hashing it!):

    – Drink LOADS of water. I drink 3+ litres on a FD.
    – Take extra salt. (Marmite drink, Bouillon drink, miso soup etc)
    – Eat fat and protein
    – Drink green tea

    Other things I have read:-
    – Food contains alot more water than we think
    – Fasting gives our bodies a chance to repair and flush out toxins, so we need extra water to cope with this

Did you ever watch Sugar-Free Farm? They all developed really bad sugar withdrawal symptoms!

    Keep on fasting everyone!

Day 6 Monday — Colorado USA– NFD

Had terrific foods over weekend. Also enjoyed some red wine & local craft beers while dining out with OH.

After being strict with calorie intake during week, I consider Sat/Sunday a re-set for my body, “See? Look! No famine going on here. Plenty of food galore! Feel free to release your fat stores!” 😃 Hope it works!

Will be Fasting Tues/Thurs plus careful again throughout Mon-Friday. Also, picking up activity levels. Happy to see scales are no longer trending upward, edging back down again!!

Have a great day, Fellow Fasters
    —-
I am striving for “PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION.”
And before eating, I ask myself, “WILL THIS GET ME CLOSER TO MY GOALS?”

    Day 6 Massachusetts, USA FD

Today is my third fast day since starting the 5:2 WOL. The first one was tough, second not bad and this one, so far, is great. I have planned my fast days for Mondays and Thursdays, figuring that Monday will be a way of getting over the weekend and Thursday a way of getting ready for the weekend. This week I need to do a day other than Thursday as I have relatives coming from out of town and I want to enjoy lunch with them. Still trying to decide if Wednesday or Friday would be best. This is why I feel that the 5:2 is going to be a right fit for me because it is flexible. Tomorrow morning I will weigh myself for the first time since 3/1 and I am looking forward to seeing how the week has gone.

    Day 6 – USA – NFD

Hello all! I forget who asked for a link to my menus for FDs, but unfortunately, I am not tech savvy enough to transfer it from my Microsoft Word document to this forum…if anyone has an understanding of how to do it, I’d be glad to post it. Good luck to all the pocketeers today!

    Day 6, Winnipeg, Canada, FD

Good morning everyone! I tried to catch up on what I have missed since Friday…it looks like it’s been a busy weekend! I didn’t have time to read all of your posts, but I did skim over them, and I love the support system we have going here!

I had my usual weekend – a little overindulgence, a really great workout, housework, etc., and some R&R. I worked on my training, and managed to climb my stairs 110 times in 55 minutes. By my own standards, that was a great achievement.

Today is a FD (will have my 500 calories), and tomorrow I am going for a liquids only FD.

Stay strong everyone, and have a great day!

    Day 6, FD, USA
Standing strong with my fellow Monday fasters. Started day with hot yoga, so ready to face day.
Erika45: try an extra cuppa tea or coffee for those headaches. The caffeine sometimes kills them for me, along with tons of water.😊

    London – FD

Following a successful first week on the 5:2, I re-weighed myself to see if I had put it all back on this morning after losing 3LBS last week. Delighted to say I only put back on 0.8 LBS. Back on the consecutive Monday, Tuesday fast days now. 50 cals in tea and celery/radishes/sugar snap peas in the day, and looking forward to my 450 calorie dinner later. I’m having one 200g sweet potato with a low fat coconut milk and flageolet bean stew on top.

Last week went really well, except at the end of day 2, just before bed, I felt a bit faint and found my muscles were achey. Thankfully Weds morning was NFD, and I REALLY enjoyed my breakfast 😊

🍆🌱 Any other vegetarians out there? 🍎🌽 I’d love to share recipes for ‘big’ dinners (450 cals).

    Say 6- Georgia, USA- FD:

First time in a long time that I’ve posted twice in a day, but I’m feeling a little off today and I needed to hold myself accountable. I’m feeling like breaking my fast today. For the first time I’ve felt like this in a long time. Not sure why? I think I’m doing a lot right now and the way I normally make myself feel at ease is with food. Gonna try and stay strong. I’ve planned a 500 cal meal for dinner. So I have that to look forward too. Mondays are usually easy for me. I look at it as a jump start and a way to start clean for the week. But today feels different somehow. Okay, I feel like I’m rambling so Ill stop right here. Have a great day everyone!

Day 6, Rocky Mountains, US, FD

    Hi all,

Joining the fasters as well. Mondays are my usual FDs. Hope I can make it. Winter is back with snow and it is very cold.
Lots of hot liquids and a hot meal late in the day. This is my plan.

All the best and ciao!!! 😊😊😊

Day 6, Dunsborough West Aust, FD
Despite it being a public holiday today, I did my usual Monday fast. Felt like having something kinda snacky mid afternoon so entered some cracker biscuits into MFP, but by the time I got around to eating them I actually didn’t feel like them. Isn’t there a saying that goes… drink, distract, delay… and the feeling goes away. It worked!

    nw1990,
I am a pescatarian but I do have lots of pure vegetarian meals. I particularly like spicy food as I find it more satisfying. What foods do you like I have lots of recipes for dinners. More importantly I make veggie soup weekly and use it on both fast and non fast days.

    2nd post

FD going well – drank lots of water and tea with a dash of skimmed milk – OH and I went for a lovely 5 mile walk as it is a gorgeous sunny spring day here in Cumbria – then met with some friends for a chat and drank 500mls of sparkling mineral water. Yoga class this evening to look forward to – I love my 2 classes a week!

@curlytot – re headaches on FD – you need to drink plenty of fluids, I try to get drink a minimum of 2L a day – some people also find that they need some salt intake e.g. Miso soup or any equivalent help.
@onahealthyhigh – thanks for keeping us near (under your pillow!) whilst you sleep……now that is what I call a supportive group
@janey1066 and @okeydokey – Welcome to the 31 Day March 2017 Challenge – we are a big and friendly group with everyone at different stages of their 5:2 WOL and some on maintenance as well.

@bert1802 – your sexy underwear story made me smile as this is exactly what I treated myself to when I reached my target in December last year – makes you feel good…….but please don’t overdo the tanning! have you thought of fake tan applied professionally instead – much healthier
@nella Jimenez – here is the ACV recipe provided by @steffieagle – Recipe: Juice of one half fresh lemon, 1 TBSP organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) with”mother”, hearty sprinkling of cinnamon, generous squirt honey and 1 TBSP Coconut oil. Mix it all together and add 4-6 ounces water. Drink it right down. The water dilutes the strong ACV taste and the honey makes it drinkable. Drink another half glass of water to protect your teeth.
@anna Sophia – sending you lots of positive vibes to keep you strong – I find drinking plenty of water during the day to fill me up and saving most of my calories for the evening works best for me – Others split their calories between breakfast and an evening meal works well e.g. eating porridge or eggs for breakfast to fill you up and then a protein and vegetables for your evening meal might work – experiment and see what works for you on a FD – good luck
@fivetwofan5252 – saw your post and the attached link – no problems with that – in fact I do exactly that on my NFD except I give myself an 8hr eating window – thus doing a 16:8
@august2024 – thinking of you on your impromptu B2B
@mogaman – thanks for the update about your journey – I think that we have to see 5:2 as a permanent WOL otherwise the weight will creep back on but some people have found doing a 6:1 works as maintenance – I personally chose to continue with 5:2 as maintenance for the long term health benefits
@pclpo (last post 2/3) and @nw1990 (last post 1/3)- lovely to see a post from you both and to know that you are still with us for this challenge – keep fasting and keep posting…….

All those doing a FD today you are all part of the “Pocketeers” even if your name is not on the list – Some appear to be struggling – Remember That Together We Are Strong and WE CAN DO THIS.

All those on a NFD – stay mindful and as @happymargo says before eating – I ask myself, “WILL THIS GET ME CLOSER TO MY GOALS?”

Great to have such a chatty group offering lots of advice and support!

Day 6 – SW WA USA – FD

Pretty amazing that more than 50 of us are fasting or have fasted today. Together we are stronger!

We have another snow day – the 11th of this school year so I’m at home on a FD. That’s okay. Only down side of these snow days is that we are making many of them up. Our June is almost filled up. I feel like I’m back in Canada with a 200 day school year instead of the US’s 180 typically.
