  • UK day 3 NFD all good – off to an early Pilates class now

Sarah 57 – what a small world, as my name suggests I’m in Brighton too .

Flourbaby – I certainly have thought about fasting at the weekend and on rare occasions have done , but as I’m approaching maintenance I really want to have a long term sustainable way of life and I don’t want to give up any of my social life but I need to find a balance – I’m getting there but years of bad habits take a lot of relearning !

Happy birthday to those celebrating 🎉

@lynzm This is such a fabulous idea (although I would have to throw the key away on NDFs)!

Day 3 FD Lyna MUNICH GERMANY.
i get overwhelmed with the number of post here.cant find my post from yesterday.i wish i could read and cheer each one on.
my day yesterday was pretty good .it was a controlled food day.
every one at work kept bothering me why i am not eating.so will try to find something low caloric at lunch time cos dont want to draw all attention to myself.here is to wishing each one a lovely day

    Day 3 UK NFD

Delighted with a 3lbs loss this week after being only 2lbs down in the whole of Feb.

@dykask – very well done. I’d find it very hard to stop eating midway through a day.

    @orpheusx Yes. yippee for you.

@laurielr I think you are making things difficult for yourself by having so much of your calorie allowance so early in the day. Many of us find it easier to save more for later. As others have said hunger doesn’t just build and build, it goes away after a little while. For example my fast days are generally no food, liquid only, probably around 80 cals. I was really hungry at dinner time, went to a pilates class, and the rest of the evening was hunger free.

@peachyoat if you feel a bit shaky during a fast day it can mean you need water or salt. I find a few flakes of sea salt, mug of boulion or teaspoon of marmite really works.

For any newbies struggling, stick with it and you will find what suits you. It really does get more manageable. I used to think I’d sort of self combust or start chewing my own arm if I didn’t eat much or at all for a day. Turns out I don’t. Hang in there.

i just remembered i lost my post b4 i could submit yesterday.
i am lyna from germany and hope i am not too late to join

    Day 3 – Staffordshire UK-nfd

Lovely night out with the girls yesterday. Went for a run first to earn my extra calories. MFP going well keeping me accountable on my NFD. Scales at their lowest this morning so I’m a happy bunny.

    Day 3 Berkshire UK NFD
Weekend danger time looming! Need to get in another fast day before the 8th. Maybe 2? Sts this a.m. however, tomorrow is another day. Well done Sarah57. Good loss.

    Day 3, Cumbria, nfd

Morning fasters! I have had my first weigh in this morning and I’m thrilled to say I’ve lost 5lbs.10oz. I know it won’t always be a loss as big as that but it’s a nice way to begin.

    Start weight 24/02/17- 157lbs
    Weight 3/03/17- 151.6lbs
    Goal weight- 126lbs

Have a great day everyone xx

    Day 3 UK NFD

I am not a happy bunny. I have pulled a muscle from the virtual hula hooping and can’t move without feeling like I’m being stabbed in the ribs. I am not doing that again! I just about managed to get my work done yesterday because I am well versed in distancing myself from pain (I have fibromyalgia) but I hope the forecast for heavy rain still stands so I can leave the animals in and have a rest today (I run an animal sanctuary). On the bright side is the fact that before fasting I felt like this most of the time. I still don’t know how I survived last year when I had to stop using pain killers. I am so happy to have discovered IF, it has helped with so many things, but I must be a bit more careful, I am still a long way from being thin and fit. Another positive is that I didn’t turn to food for comfort. I successfully finished the fast day. Maybe I can use this rest day (the rain is getting heavier) to catch up on my languages. I have been neglecting them in favour of reading this forum. I am working on Welsh and Dutch at the moment.

    @brightonbelle – hello to you

Hello. March 3. NFD. Did 2 FDs this week. Target weight is 56 kgs. Started at 59.8 (heaviest for last 5 years). Friday is “scale reveal” day! So weighed myself this morning and I’ve lost 1.3Kgs. Yeah!. Great motivation to keep going. However its now Friday evening and I’m on my second glass of wine…. well its Friday !! Good luck to everyone on the Weekend.

and @mrsgettingthere well done on your weight loss. That’s great.

    Day 3: Gloucestershire, UK: NFD.

Right, I need to get a grip. So far, three days in on the current challenge (I’ve been around since Coda started the challenges last May) I have had two potential fast-days which both failed after returning home from work too hungry. I work delivering at Royal Mail. Today is my day off, so I’m on a non-fast day.
Luckily I’ve not gained any more of the weight I already gained when I previously fell by the wayside a few weeks back…I need to lose about 6 pounds to get back to my previously obtained goal weight.

TOMORROW, I WILL succeed with my first fast day of March!! Committed.

    Day 3 Oman NFD

    Day 3 – Switzerland – FD

It’s really great that there are so many of us on here, all making an effort together.

I actually stuck to my guns yesterday and managed my first successful NFD for ages, in that I weighed and logged everything, and kept under my goal TDEE. Also managed to fit in an Aqua-Gym class and nearly 10,000 steps. I’m still carrying the names from our Mega-FD on Monday, and the thought of my fellow pocketeers actually really helped me take myself seriously. Thanks guys!

One rule that makes FDs easier for me is: if you start a FD, you have to see it through.

I think this came from the original May challenge last year, and it helps me because it takes away the element of choice. If I feel rubbish in the morning, maybe with a cold developing, or if I really feel that it’s not the right day mentally, I allow myself to opt for a NFD instead without beating myself up. Other than that, it has to be a major event where continuing to fast makes no sense, and – luckily – that’s not happened yet.

Over all, in order to make this work for me, I’m learning to be kind to myself, and listen to what I really need. Have a lovely day everyone!

    Day 3 – NZ – FD

Really pleased with how my first week has gone, I have been working from 12pm to 8pm so has been quite easy to not eat during the day as my day is all out of whack but am back to 8am till 4pm for the next month so hopefully I will be fine. I always treat myself with 2 squares of 85 percent Lindt chocolate after dinner so the thought of that keeps me honest. So far so good!

Day 3 Oxfordshire UK – FD

    Raining cats and dogs here.

    Day 3. FD. Hampshire, UK

I am still so excited about my weight loss during February, this has really spurred me on to do 2 X FDs per week during March (until I go on holiday on 17th!).

During Feb I lost 1 lb per week, so I hope to be able to keep this up – but as we all know, weight loss can be swings & roundabouts!

@fatrabbit – really sorry to hear that you hurt yourself :0(
When I tried hula hooping for the first time, I could barely move for about two days afterwards! (But I didn’t pull anything luckily!) Hope you feel better soon… Great name BTW!

Re fasting, isn’t it weird how some days it is really really really hard to fast and then occasionally it is a breeze! This week the FD I did on Tuesday was super-easy.

For the first time ever, I actually found myself looking forward to doing a FD today.

Good luck everyone with inch-loss and weight-loss!

    Day 3, Germany, FD

Today is the second day that I cannot work out because I am a bit sick and I have to rest. Hope to get better by tomorrow. A day without exercise is so boring for me. Anyhow I am fasting and that’s a move towards a better physical condition 🙂

    Day 3: Glasgow, and it’s a (2nd in a row…) Fast Day.

Managed the fast day just fine, yesterday – but felt cold all day (I’m taking it that’s a good thing, as my body is having to divert energy to keeping warm?) I’m going to try to fast again today, to give myself a bit of a jump start. I’m also NOT going to weigh myself for at least a week, because the natural fluctuations that I see on my scales serve only to discourage. If I can manage a 2nd fast day today, I’ll move on to ADF, and see if I can do that. All in all, I feel well, and my food choices are better. (If the fast days do anything – they serve to make me think about every single calorie I eat. I want the best food/nutrition/satisfaction value I can get from my 500!). Hope all of my fellow travellers are doing well, and that day 3 sees all of us determined to keep going and see some real results by the end of March. My thoughts are with you!

    Day 3 NFD Sydney 81.1kg

    Day 3 – CARDIFF UK – FD

    Starting Weight : 165.5lbs

    Today’s Weight : 164.9lbs (0.6lb) March Target 8.5lb

Looking forward to last FD of the week. Previous 2 FD have just reversed unusual weekend over indulgence and pancakes, so hopefully this one will move me forward towards March target.

I use my FD (generally liquid only) to make sure I’m drinking enough water, as I tend to struggle a bit on NFD. It really makes me feel like I’m giving my body a treat and a chance to do a bit of internal housekeeping.

Hope everyone has a great day.

    Day 3 Belfast FD
@metatauta it is such a joy. When I retired we discussed moving to the country but at the moment, I couldn’t be without my swimming pool! It has been instrumental in my well being, and taking your clothes off in public is a great leveller in terms of weight loss!
laurieLR I find when fasting that once you eat the hunger starts. One of these lovely fasters called it awaking the hunger dragon. On FDs I usually try to get through either to lunch or often until my evening meal without eating. Drinking lots of green tea, oxo/bovril helps to stave off the hunger pangs and keeping busy of course.
@ Bert1802 there was an article on a new bulletin here about overweight/obese people who were ‘offended’ when their doctor suggested that losing weight would contribute to their health and well being. In this day and age, when we are bombarded with health warnings about weight, how can they not realise?! You’re right. ‘Taking responsibility’ is the key phrase!
Well, I’m off. Have a good day

    Day 3 USA NFD

Just finished a 48 hour fast. I just put MCT in my coffee which keeps me going. It’s comforting not to have to think about food. A grocery store can murder a fast. 🙂

I run to and from work every day; it’s probably been 22 years now. That’s always been energizing so I wondered whether the fasting would allow it and not bog me down but actually, adding high intensity makes me forget about hunger. Similarly, when someone is negative at work, it’s sometimes energizing to do my job efficiently and the tiresomeness of negativity just disappears.

    Good luck, fasters !

(Day 3, FD, Hampshire UK – ME AGAIN!)

    @pashaw – I so agree!

A FD is the opportunity to give your body a treat, in particular top up on water levels!
    That is so true.

Today I am struggling as I am v hungry and it is not even 10am! WHY did I eat rubbishy carbs (pizza!!) for dinner instead of eating properly to prepare for a FD?

Time for some more green tea and maybe some of those funny Zero Noodles & tamari sauce if I am feeling desperate!

@jojo58 – I agree that sugar is generally a problem. My sugar consumption wasn’t that high by American standards at around 60/g day, but I had amazing positive results when I cut back on sugar. That being said it is almost impossible to 100% avoid sugar, it is simply everywhere. It is much easier to avoid tobacco.

However I have drawn a line with whole fruit. I’ve been eating a lot of it and it is where the bulk of my consumed sugar comes from. While I noticed large benefits from cutting back on added sugars I have noticed many differences with the amount of fruit I eat. The only difference I’ve noticed is when I eat a lot of fruit the bacteria in my gut are more active with pumping out the gas. So that is a bit negative. Since I’m still losing fat and gaining health I’m keeping the whole fruit for now. That choice is very controversial with many people on both sides. Personally I don’t think most of the fructose in the fruit is making it too my liver.

Still, I thinking about things all the time and it is possible I’ll change my mind and ditch the fruit at some point. Excluding fruit my average daily sugar consumption is probably less than 10g / day. However I tend to eat 4 to 6 servings of fruit a day, so that is something I could cut way back on.

    Day 3, New Zealand, NFD

    Day 3, UK, NFD

I weigh myself every day – I find it keeps me motivated but also helps me identify which foods my body has trouble processing and holds onto for longer periods. BUT I only record my weight for goal purposes on Friday mornings – before the weekend and after my Tues/ Thurs FDs.

So this morning I am down to 84.7kg. This is the lightest I have been in about 10 years. My pre-pregnancy clothes are now too big and I am starting to feel like it might actually be possible to reach and maintain a healthy weight. I am very tall for a woman, and so I only need to get to 80 for a healthy BMI, 75 to be in the middle of healthy and 70 to be at the lower but still safe end of healthy.

For all the new starters and slow shifters out there, hang in there. I lost the first 10 kilos (22 pounds) pretty quickly – about 10 weeks – then was stuck around the same weight for about 6-8 weeks. But now it’s kicked in again and I’m down another 5 kilos in 3 weeks. It’s not a smooth curve. There are fits and starts. But this is a WOL, not a diet. And it works.

    Best to everyone.

Day 3 – NL – FD turning into NFD

Are we allowed to post links to a diagram on another website?

I just came across a fabulous diagram called The Benefits of IF and it is a really nice reminder of the health benefits of IF.

Nice when you are doing a FD to be reminded of these things… but I won’t post the link if it is not allowed!

    Day 3, Gozo, Malta, FD

I’m 66 kilos. My target is 64 kilos so I’m up 2 kilos. I’m fasting today.

Happy Friday everyone, the weekend starts today. Onwards and downwards.

Hi UK (visiting Donegal Ireland) nfd day 3

Still not caught up on all posts. May have missed a few birthdays so belated birthday wishes especially 40th 🎂🍾

    Day 3 -Italy – FD
Yesterday’s FD disintegrated at 3pm, the absolute worst time of the day for me. I’m trying again today as I have a busy day planned. I CAN do this!

Day 3 Surrey UK FD. Checking in.

    Day 3……Florida….. FD

First of all sorry Linda Sue, for not saying happy birthday sooner. I hope your day was great.

Not much to report this morning, it’s a FD.

For the newbies having a hard time controlling their hunger on FD. First, it’s only temporary, after a few times doing a fast, your belly will adjust. One of the most important things I do on a constant basis since I fast daily from 7pm until 12:30 daily is chew gum.
Also, as odd as it sounds, I feel odd if I don’t have a little grumble in my belly during my 16 hours. This is not scientific or anything, but the way I look at it, is our bellys grumble because they have forgotten how to use our stored resources. It too wants instant gratification, it doesn’t want to go looking for what it needs, it want it to be given it as soon as it cries. So, make your belly work for you!

    Well, I’m off!

    Peace be with you!

    Day 3, London, UK, NFD

Really good FD yesterday, I didn’t need the bone broth, managed the day on water, a miso soup sachet and a bowl of chicken soup in the evening.

I’m still 1lb above last Fridays 12 year low (best B’day gift), but as I’m not managing to make TDEE on NFDs and with liquid or well below ¼ TDEE FDs………………….I fear I may have stalled my engine!!
Time to reset and aim to at least meet TDEE on NFDs.

@lindasue & @lew and any others I missed, Happy Belated Birthday…….It’s time to put the cake away now!!!!!! At least save it for a NFD!!!)

@jojo58, congratulations on a great loss! Your post sounds like you’ve nailed this WOL, although I know we all have up and downs, it’s good to see that managing this is the key……………know yourself, know your body, know what’s false and what’s real. I hope this summer you reach your target with ease!!

@ciren2, FD for me too tomorrow, I’ve got you in my pocket, this WOL allows us to say, tomorrow’s another day, but we also need to rip the plaster off and just get on with it!! So tomorrow IS a FD for me, no ifs, buts or maybes!!!!!…..……(any pocketeers out there??) I’m positive you have the tools to succeed, just dust them off and hop back on the wagon…………..TOMORROW, YOU WILL succeed with your first fast day of March!! You are Committed.

(I nearly typed You WILL be committed LOL!!!!)

Good Luck everybody, We CAN do this!

Day 3, Friday (yay!) — Colorado, USA– NFD

I’ve finally worked out the “magic formula” for my 3 x 12 hour work days:
Skip breakfast, drink plain black coffee for morning break, for lunch have a giant mixed spring greens salad & mug of boullion, then dinner with DH.
Sometimes, since it’s a rather physical & exhausting job, there are times during the 12 hour shift I need a bit more & will grab a LCHF snack. But usually the hot liquids & fiber from salad really help to make me feel full and hold me off till dinner time.

DH in theory understands 5:2 & intermittent fasting, however in reality, hates to eat alone, even if I’m sitting with him having something different. He likes planning out & fixing “what we’ll have for dinner together.” And gets a bit grumpy if I say I won’t be eating anything. Not sure why it bothers him so much. Hmm?

Anywho, I’m just happy to have gotten a grip on my mid-winter blahs. Kicked them to the curb & am firmly back onto the 5:2 band-wagon!! Making progress!

Day 5 (my 1st day was in February), London UK, NFD
Had my second FD yesterday, however my usual routine was broken and I forgot it was a FD and so had cereal for breakfast leaving me with very few calories for the rest of the day – painful! I’m very hungry and weak today. Spent the night going to the toilet after my first FD! Hopefully my body will get used to the FDs. My weigh-in was good this morning, let’s hope I don’t go mad and put it all back on over the weekend.

    Day 3 London NFD

Had a few tummy grumbles the past couple of days, but at work we have a variety of teas to choose from, (cammomile, earl grey, peppermint, green) so I’ve been sampling all those especially when feeling cold on my FDs.

Does anyone else have suggestions for some tasty herb (non-fruity) teas to try?

    Have a great weekend everyone!!!

    Faye

    Day 3 – Lancashire, UK – NFD

Well, I went to “Fat Club” last night and put on bloomin’ 0.5lb!! Was gutted! Kept to my FD though, so pleased with that. On a brighter note, I do feel slimmer and I am wearing a top to work today without a cardigan!!! I haven’t done that in however many years!! I am out tonight to Chiquitos for tea (yey!) and have meals/drinks planned for tomorrow, but from Sunday onwards, I am going to try and get back on the SW plan along with 5:2 to try and kick-start my weight loss. I still have the same target for this month (now 6.5 lbs), and I am going to try and curb the bread next week as I have felt quite bloated all week.

    Day 3 – NFD – Canada
Am taking the advice from many here to try to stick to a 16:8 on NFD. I might try an 18:6, but with kids and husband that might be a weekday NFD plan. I’m down just .2 lbs, but I’m down! Every bit sticks these days and that’s ok. I’m already feeling much better about myself and my OH and kids have noticed that I’m more confident.
I’m going to try a half-way photo today – I took a starting one and will take an ‘after’ in a few months.
Am going to remind myself to meditate, I started 5:2 in Jan with a daily breathing meditation and want to bring that mindfulness back.
Congrats to all the great losses this week! Wowza 🙂

    Day 3|Toronto|CD/NFD|85.6
Finally off the “plateau” but cautious as weekends are my personal danger zones.

Day 3 – Californian currently living in France – FD

Second fast day is going smoothly. Skipping a morning meal is a breeze as long as I have a strong cup of coffee! As on the first FD, I had an early afternoon snack (cucumber and cherry tomatoes in a homemade yogurt dressing=100 Cals) and I’ll save the rest of my calories for dinner.

My husband is doing this with me which is a HUGE help. Since we both work at home, it can be challenging when hunger strikes and the fridge is (in)conveniently 15 steps away. I’m relying on sheer will power, loads of water and reading all of your posts!

    Thanks everyone!

    Day 4/NFD/Australia

Busy day ahead. Hopefully I’ll have time to catch up on all posts.

Have a mindful, healthy and relaxing weekend.

    Cheerio

    Day 3- Georgia USA- FD

B2b fast days for me today. Not my usual, but I need a reality check. Actually the scales have been a wake up call for me. I’ve put back on a lot since my lowest weigh in. I’m motivated to get back on track this time around.

    2nd post

@fivetwofan thanks, I am feeling better, the rest is doing me good. Tea gets me through and when I am extra hungry a teaspoon of marmite in hot water helps. The salt fends off hunger more strongly. I found that diagram and it is good.

@august2024 and @notmyrealname good to hear of you leaving your plateaus behind. I know I am bound to hit one soon and knowing it will only be temporary will be important.

@fayefaye Fennel is nice too, and cinnamon.

@helenalee well done for turning your mistake around and finishing the fast day anyway:)

@ciren2 and @flourbaby I’m fasting tomorrow too, we are in it together:)

@dykask I wouldn’t let the sugar in fruit put me off as the associated fibre has a protective effect, but I don’t much like fruit anyway so I use the sugar as a reason not to make myself eat more. I would rather have a pepper to munch on than a banana any day. Or a beetroot.

I am on a bit of a beetroot craze at the moment. I am having no difficulty getting my five a day on fast days and am close to ten on most NfDs even without fruit. I just broke yesterday’s fast with mashed beans with chili and stilton with ginger and mango and a lovely salad with a teaspoon of my new treat grated beetroot with horseradish on it. I don’t feel even vaguely deprived by this way of eating.

    Day 3 – Brittany, France – NFD

Didn’t manage my exercise goal yesterday (on Day 2 of the challenge!) – plenty of valid excuses but it just shows how easy it is to get knocked off course. So this morning I did my half hour on the exercise bicycle as soon as I got up, before the day’s events could take over!

Good morning everyone!. Day 5- Norfolk, Virginia- NFD

I started Monday with a fast day, yesterday was my second fast day and it wasn’t terribly hard, I got really hungry around 2 pm so I had something to eat, then had avocado on toast, scrambled eggs with a handful of spinach and coffee for dinner. This morning I feel ok, I weighed myself this morning and went from 175 to 174, that keeps me going!.. my goal this month is to hit 170 or less, I’ve added more greens to my diet but still drink coffee with sugar and half and half, I’ve stopped eating white bread. I don’t really want to give up coffee with sugar or whole grain bread. Still eat white rice from time to time. I read all your posts and I feel like I’m a terrible eater, you’re all healthy eaters!..

Good day and good luck to you all!

    Day 3, UK, NFD.

I’m having a chips from the chippy for tea tonight so am fasting until then as I’ll also have bread.

Based on my overindulgence on my NFDs this week, I am planning a further B2B fast probably Sunday and Monday as I am going to weigh in on Tuesday instead of Wednesday as I am away for a few days. I will pre-post for Wednesday and Thursday as NFDs @at.

Thanks for your really helpful post @jojo58.

    Have a good Friday all.

Thankyou @fatrabbit for the tea recommendations, I am off to Holland & Barrett to go tea shopping as they have buy one get one half price at the moment!

Day 3 Chicago, Il USA – FD

@at my goal is to lose 8 pounds in March, overall goal is 26 pounds. Currently at 151 pounds last week, weigh in is tomorrow. I feel like I’ve done good all week, but let’s see if the scale agrees, haha!

@metatauta thanks girlfriend for turning me on to this wonderful way of eating!
