    Day 10 – NFD
Weighed in for first time (since starting on Jan 1) and I’m down almost 5 lbs. So happy! I feel like my fasting days are teaching me what true hunger feels like and on the non-fasting days, I’m craving more whole foods/healthier foods. Yay!!

    Day 11 – NSD

    FD tomorrow (Day 12).

Day 11 SW WA USA NFD

I was able to make my NFD a 16:8 yesterday and plan to do the same today. I like the ideas from my fellow fasters as I continue on this journey.

steffieagle – walking along the beach sounds wonderful; especially as I’m in a winter wonderland here where I live. School is closed again today – 6th closure this winter.

altrarosie – as I read the posts, I was thinking that maybe your doing as SouthCroydonKate did to reach her goal might work for you. She posted right after you. Her simple, more easy going style might make the journey more pleasant for you.

Day 11; Gloucestershire, UK: NFD….I feel such a fraud!
    When did I last fast??
The only good thing is that I try to eat healthy food. Maybe tomorrow, eh?

    Day 12 Waikato NZ NFD
FD yesterday and it went really well. The scales this morning were disappointing as I am still sitting at 83kg. However I was feeling dispondent until I reread some of the posts and @happymango I was really encouraged, thankyou for that. Normally after a FD I wake up not hungry but today I am really hungry, so starting the day with some millet porridge and fresh berries. I am determined to be more mindful of what goes into my mouth on NFD lets hope I can keep it up. Have a good day everyone.

    Day 11 | FD | Bucks UK

Pretty hard FD I’m tired and cold.
My mum has left me and flown to her hot and sunny homeland for 3 months! She’s retired and can do these things and so deserves it.
Will sleep with one eye open until she video calls to say she’s arrived safe.

I think tiredness is making me want to eat loads but I don’t want to ruin my fast so will stay under the blanket a bit longer. Maybe tomorrow…

Day 11 – FD – US, CA, Oceanside

First FD this week. Rainy but will still get out for 3 mile + walk.

@annemarilyn I grew up in Seattle with the rain that never quite makes you wet. Lots of snow in WA this year. Sooner or later the sun comes out for us.

Nice protein waffle with fruit for breakfast. Dinner salad with 1.5 oz protein tonite. The 5:2 Fast is amazing. Love reading the posts.

    2nd post –

@steffieagle – I love the snow. it reminds me of my growing up days in Winnipeg, MB. The not seeing the sun is the difficult part. I usually mark an “S” on the calendar for every day there is at least a sunbreak. That helps me know that it really does shine here as well; maybe not as in Oceanside but…

@lisa.Alma – be sure to hydrate on FDs – water, maybe some broth. As you recognized too late, you’d only had coffee. Your brain will actually be able to focus better on FDs than NFDs. I found it so as I studied in the past.

@missj2002 – sounds like you need a cup of hot tea; maybe some peppermint. Warm up those hands.

    Day11 Ireland NFD
Had that much longed for toast and butter (2 slices, granary bread) for breakfast. Yum. Was nearly tempted to have 3 rd slice… yes greed not need, but managed not to, but largely because I was meeting a friend to go running and knew it would sit in my stomach if I did. Hilly run for 1 hour, just able to hold a conversation while running so felt well exercised.
Lunch was oat cakes and cheese and bowl of soup… a couple of ginger nut biscuits snack and dinner rather too much pasta, and broccoli.
Really wanted chocolate to eat… but luckily none in the house!!
So today was a day of just eating a bit much at each meal… but managing to hold off doing too much damage by not eating every time I wanted too!
    Aiming for FD tomorrow.
Some people showing great weight loss… well done guys πŸ‘
It is amazing how busy this thread is… and how good it is to see the tips and advice. Thanks 😊

    Day 11 – NFD – Ireland
Got through yesterday ok, went 40 kcals over due to forgeting to add Clementine to my fitness Pal calculation but weighed everything else so not bad. NFD today didn’t eat until lunch due to hectic work schedule then had a canteen dinner only to come home this evening and find my husband prepared a lovely meal. Didn’t want to insult him so had a half potion side plate. FD tomorrow also work deadline that I’m dreading. Wish me luck guys xxxxxxxx

    Good luck UpTip! πŸ˜€

    Day 11 : Cheshire, UK : NFD

I intended today to be a FD but, oh my gosh, I just couldn’t do it. Instead I have binged for Britain. Last week I did b2b and was really happy and proud of myself. The first for 2017. It maybe because I’ve had a few indulgences over the weekend with dinner at friends etc.

I just want to eat tonight. There is a part of me that thinks….binge, binge, binge and start again tomorrow….sigh! I think I need to take little steps again to get back on track.

Back to catching up on posts πŸ™‚

    Day 11 / Sweden / FD
Yesterday’s FD went so well I decided to do a b2b today. It went very well, I had already booked a film night with a friend and really wanted popcorn so I budgeted that onto my TDEE and ate very little during the day. Knowing that I’d have my treat later made it much easier.

I haven’t been sleeping enough the last few nights. That has nothing to do with 5:2 but rather that I take my work home and work late many nights. The joys of being a teacher! So I’m calling it a day and heading off to bed before I find something else to keep me awake.
    Good luck to all!

May I join in to please.

You can do it ….don’t give up…☺

    London | Day 11 | NFD (again!) πŸ™

    Day 12 Sydney – FD

looking forward to my second fast day of the week. Nothing but peppermint tea and water until this evening when I will get sushi or a salad bowl at the airport as I am flying to Melbourne this evening. We are lucky in Australia to have so many choices of fast food – including some healthy options.

    Day 11, Gozo Malta, NFD

We arrived last Sunday from our holiday in Sicily by catamaran due to bad weather instead of last Friday. I was about one kilo more than when we left. Monday I fasted partially because I ate some of the sweet goodies we have left iiin the kitchen. About five unopened panettone, mince pies, biscuits, and chocolates. All calling me to eat. I’m trying to eat as healthy as possible andmdown to 0.2 kilo from Monday. I need to be at least 0.3 kilos less than I am.

My iPad was at the repair shop as I got it broken when I accidentally dropped it and shattered the screen. I need to read your lovely posts to catch up.

Have a great evening/ night/day everyone. It’s good to be back.

Hello bonniedonnie yes off course you can join us. Jump in where we are – day of month = day of challenge. Start your post with day we are on, your location and if fast day or non fast day.

    Day 12 Melbourne FD
@happymargo – adding my thanks for the list, which I have pasted to my computer!

@ciren2 – I read yours after reading @k-lo‘s quote: Frankie Valli, β€œI keep workin’ my way back to you, babe.” nuff said πŸ™‚

@goldensun – Hang in there! It’s just a blip and this WOL has it’s high times and low times.

@uptipp – Wishing you plenty of Irish Luck XX

@weeme – yes “day of just eating a bit much at each meal”… I’m hearing you (think yesterday) arggghh

Best of wishes to all for Day 12!

Day 12 – Sydney, Aus, FD

So I’m down 3kg this week even without any official fast days. Just been eating the 3 conference meals, playing with lots of kids and voila.
Today has ended up being a fast day because I am staying with my Nanna but she has absolutely no gluten free food… so unintentional 18:6 it is.

I had a question though… do you guys do fasts if you’re tired or stressed or feeling less than 100%? I think I read somewhere that fasting cues a shress response and is a stressor to the body and thus a bit risky if you’re already experiencing other stress etc. Thoughts? Scientific or anecdotal welcome

@biddiev thank you! Hope tomorrow is a better day. I’m feeling bloated and a little sad. Just don’t know why I ate so much.

    12th January Day 12 – FD
    Queensland

Ate too much yesterday – so happy to have a fast day today

    Hi All,

Today is my first day back at work, and so I’m shrugging off the Christmas lethargy and getting back into it. It’s so hot here in Sydney. 40 yesterday with lots of humidity. Very hard to get back in gear. How do I register for the Feb challenge? This seems such a good idea.

    Regards

    Narrabeen

    Day 11 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Still feeling a bit rough today but went to a yoga class and did what I could within the limitations of my left leg pain – brilliant yoga teacher who advised on alternatives.

I eventually broke my fast with a shortbread biscuit with my cup of tea mid afternoon! Homemade fish curry with cabbage salad for dinner tonight – OH special request – followed by a small slice of xmas cake! Oh and a nice glass of white wine with dinner – still not bad after a B2B FDs

Lovely to see so many people involved in this forum – it is great to read all your posts whether you are writing with the voice of experience or as a newbie – it is all inspiring

@fuvvie you are a doing a brilliant job keeping tabs on us all

    @songbirdme – thank you

@ciren2 – glad to see you are still posting – keep the faith – you will find your way back

Great advice for all Newbies on the forum by @simcoelove and @coda – Please do not see this as a diet – it is a WOL – you will put weight back on if you resume your old habits – the idea is that by following this WOL we retrain ourselves to eating more healthily and the odd “blip” can be accommodated – if you are struggling – keep going – you will lose weight if you follow these basic rules.

@happymargo in her post on Page 21 also gave a summary of the health benefits of this WOL – I follow this WOL for exactly these reasons and whenever I stray I remind myself of why I started this WOL and how much better I have felt both mentally and physically over this past year since.

    My quote for us today:-
“Nobody can do it for you, You have to do it for yourself”

Day 11 Belfast UK NFD (cold and sunny)
woke at 6.30 am starving so got up and weighed myself. 159.25 what a delight- well down whoosh! So went early to the pool and the lengths flew in! As you can guess I’m having a good dayπŸ˜ƒ Had a relaxed lunch with ex work colleagues – have retired 18 months now. I didn’t realise how stressed I was till I stopped work so I commiserate with those of you who are starting a new job and are feeling the strain.
@steffieagle your ocean sounds amazing I grew up at the seaside and wintertime, when all the tourists had gone home was my favourite time.
@bert1802 you made me laugh out loud – I hope you enjoyed disposing of the offending items! I seem to have spent an inordinate amount of timer on my iPad, much to my OH’s disgust.
Thank you to all who posted links- my life has taken a whole new direction. I spent yesterday evening alternating between ‘the Man in the High Castle’ and Dr Jason Fung. The Dr’s youtube video was really interesting. I have been fasting since last April, with quite reasonable success and on my fast days, I don’t eat any carbs but continue a normal diet on NFDs. I know quite a few of you follow a LCHF diet. I am interested in this but can I just ask, do you eat no carbs, limited carbs? I would welcome your input. Tomorrow I have fitness blender and Kon Mari to look forward to!
    Ciren, internet hugs to you.
Night night everyone and good luck fasters

    Day 11….. Florida….. FD

Coda….. I wasn’t really down just in a mood yesterday. I’m glad that my clothes are doing what they are doing. it’s just hard at work running all over and you must stop to pull something up. And they were a really comfy pair of pants.
Sometimes, I just need to write and vent and joke a bit to feel better.
Plus, I doubt I’m the only one who has had an underwear stretcher visit them….. but hell give me a reason and I can joke about anything, or turn it into a joke. As you can tell, I’m not really shy nor do I embarrass easily.

altrarosie….. the AND/OR theory is something I use that helps. When we think about our food, we always say AND. Example hamburger and fries, and a milkshake and pizza and donuts and cake. The word And becomes automatic. So, in our minds we think we have to have it. We have to have hamburger AND fries. Where as if we switch it out with OR, it becomes a choice. Example hamburger or fries, or milkshake or pizza or donuts or cake. So instead making it a choice it is telling our brains we can only choose one. So, if you choose one say pizza, you have an open spot to fill it with something healthy. I hope that makes sense. It sounded so much better in my brain.

Phwree…… myself, I tend to fast when I’m feeling a bit well under the weather from stress, and life. Fasting has a way of making me feel better. I really think everyone has their own way of dealing with the stresses. I think it’s important to do what works for you. Regardless of what those scientificicy(I don’t think that’s a real word….. oh my, I’m making up words now!)people say….

Congrats to those whom have seen a reduction in their weight.
    Welcome Newbies…..

    Okay, now about me.
Good day for me, so far it’s staying a FD, making homemade Chinese food for dinner. It’s just like general tso chicken. So, I’m gonna have to see how the calories add up.
Okay…. I’m going to admit it, I have a piece of Godiva choc. At lunch only 45 calories, so i didn’t break the bank. No I didn’t need it but I wanted it. So, I’m at 110 calorie going into dinner.
I did wear a sweater that I haven’t worn in years today. it fit fine, well it fit and that’s the important thing.
Real quick to the newbies…… the scales lie! They can’t be trusted! They will lie, cheat and steal from you! The best way to tell if you are getting anywhere with this WOL, is by your clothes. One day something will fit, the next day it won’t. One day something will be to small the next day it will fit…. just be careful of the underwear stretcher, he likes to visit when your not paying attention.
Over all great day! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
    Cheers!

Day 12 Sunshine Coast Qld Australia: FD: 107.8kgs. Continuing to eat that which I have denied myself for many months. Ok, so yesterday was piles of fruit (mangoes x2, nectarines x2, passionfruit, magnum full size and won’t go there again, some other ice confection thing, and Weis bar. ).In addition, ate cold cooked sausages for breakfast and lunch. Where has this waywardness come from? I won’t call it a hunger dragon, because I’m not hungry. It is the self sabotage eating troll. It is an ugly so and so. Anyway, feel motivated to do better today. Taking note of all the positive posts. Feeling enormous sympathy and empathy for the less than positive posts and sending GoldenSun the good luck requested.

Having huge frustration with the spreadsheet. For some reason it is not saving a lot of the stuff I am inputting, even though I have clicked save before shutting sown. This has been going on for a few days. I have to click on most names and then replies created to re-enter the data from the day before. I am clicking save after every entry. This is a new problem. Have been at the computer for an hour and a half so far this morning trying to get it right. So not really got a lot of time to reply to posts.

Welcome to Narrabeen2101. Let’s get January out of the way before registering for February LOL. Just start your posts off with Day+date, location and whether an FD or NFD.

    Welcome to Bonniedonnie1999.

Welcome back to Anna6. Glad to hear you had a lovely holiday.

Ciren2, your self talk iappears to be very negative at times. This is not unusual as we all do it. Please please please say some positive things to yourself as there is so much good about you. You have a great work ethic. You have reached your goal and are working at getting maintenance right. You do have a lovely sense of humour, let it shine through. Think, I can do this, I am a winner. Your subconscious believes what you tell it. Start feeding it good messages. We can all do with a good dose of positive.

    Jan 11 -Michigan usa- FD
Working on fast day is better than being home suprisingly. I hadVegetarian Pho for lunch – Tough to figure our how many calories as every source seems to be different but I settled on 300 calories. Planning on fish and salad for dinner. Keep up all the good comments! Its nice to see so many people supporting each other.

Sorry, Ciren2, I realise I sound like a preacher. I’m sending you the biggest hugs.

Great post as usual Bert. I enjoy your free thinking posts. The AND/OR is such a reality test. Good thinking.

Good for you, Debster. You’ve got to love those whooshes.

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6oqTHC6B0LGZEliWlNJWjhsSXc/view?usp=sharing

Have saved the document under a different name and posted the new document. Hope you can see it. If it is a fresh document then maybe it will behave for me.

    Day 12 – Perth, W.Aust – FD

@coda – I can’t remember where I read about the taking it easy on a FD, but I remember it didn’t make sense to me at the time. I definitely have a lot more energy on FD and love that I currently have the time to do more activity, but so glad I don’t actually have to go out and hunt for my food, although there are some shopping experiences…. πŸ™‚ Also thanks again for posting about how easy 5:2 really is.

@happymargo – also thanks to you for the reminder of the health benefits associated with 5:2, this is by far the main reason I chose to do this, any weight loss is actually a bonus. I figure the less I need to see my doctor and can stay away from the medical system, the better for me – far cheaper in any case.

@bert1802 – I read about your clothes drama and think I’d rather an undie stretcher than those gremlins that keep sewing the clothes tighter. I think many of us have issues with our clothes, more importantly how we think we look in them. I came across an interesting lady a few years back who writes a blog about simple styling techniques. Now personally I don’t give a rats about fashion as such, but I do want to feel that I look okay in what I choose to wear, and while I don’t always agree with her clothing choices I love the confidence I get from reading her blogs. She also does a great thing called “model and me” where she’ll review a clothing item as seen on a model and then model it on herself. If you’re interested, her website is: http://www.stylingyou.com.au/

Now off to walk the dog, so nice to have a cooler summer day to break up the hotter days we’ve just had. I love the freshness in the air as it floats over your skin and the smell of rain in summer. Have a great day everyone and be kind to yourself.

Hi @fuvvie, my understanding is that if you create a spreadsheet on google docs it autosaves on each entry. Is that not happening for you?

@annemarilyn – thanks, I found that and yes that does sound more doable.
Off to bed happy to have completed my firstb2b. Not through choice, think I prefer 2 non consecutive days, but it was ok.

Day 12 Country West Australia FD
The scales have been smiling after my 5 days away with family – only 100 cms gain, so very happy.
Although not counting calories and I was eating over TDEE I was trying to be mindful.
Just goes to show ‘being aware’ does pay off – even though I ate chocolate, wine, bread etc. I ate much less this holiday than the normal ‘ go for broke because I’m on holiday ‘ mentality.

Arvandee….. thanks for the link. I browsed through it a bit, can’t wait to dig in on my day off. As for clothes, ultimately I want to be comfortable, look good also I like to wear clothes that cover my lumpy rolls…. lol

@Debster215 – I am pretty new to this all but what I am following on almost ALL days whether it be NFD or FD is more of a ketogenic mix of fats, protein, and carbs. I shoot for 70% fat calories, 20 protein, and 10% carbs.

So for a 500 calorie FD for example, that would equate to: Carbs 50 calories or 13 grams / Protein 100 calories or 25grams / Fat 350 calories or 39 grams (Carbs and Protein = each gram = 4 calories and each Fat gram = 9 calories).

On a NFD then if I were at 1,500 calories I would just multiply each category by 3.

Mind you – by fat I mean natural fats found in butter, olive oil, ghee, cheese, and fats found in salmon, etc.

It is actually hard to eat that many calories as a percent in fat – I tend do have much more in protein and am able to keep to about 20-25 grams of carbs per FD….more like 50-75 on a NFD.

Let me now if this all makes sense or if you have questions. I tend to go on a bit too much on the subject…it’s my very favorite πŸ˜‰

@ Debster – I meant to say 10 grams or less of Carbs on FD and then 20-30 grams on NFD…then I throw in a more flexible day and don’t watch it that closely.

    day 11 – Canada – NFD

Day 11,canada, NFD. Sorry no time to post more today.

    Keep the fast!

    Day 11. QuΓ©bec, NFD

Today went rather well but I really need to be more consistent writting down the calories I eat.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a FD but a friend invited me for supper and I’m quite sure I will be going higher than 500 calories. I will do my best and make good decisions considering how things are going. If necessary my FD will be on Friday !

    @alexinme.

My toughts are with you. You are going through a huge storm that might last for a year or so. Personnaly, I noticed that each new season brought new memories and would shake me. So, I guess my message is that you must be kind with yourself and don’t ask too much too soon. Hugs x

Hi Jpilch, I’m just doing my spreadsheet in xcell in my computer and then dropping it occasionally into google drive. . I don’t know how to do google docs. Who can access that?

FD almost over. Hard today, but I didn’t give into the hunger. Going to bed. My significant other so supportive helping me get through the tough patches. Weighing tomorrow morning wish me luck!

@walden good luck well done today!!!

    Day 12 – Tokyo Japan – NFD – 78.4 kg

I probably won’t weight myself or post until Monday since I’ll be travelling.

Good luck to Walden410! My wife doesn’t like the idea of my fasting and seems more frustrated by my success with it than anything else. Some fast are much harder than others too. Every fast is different.

    FD North Yorkshire Day 12

    Day 12 – FD – Ireland
Meant to thank you @happymargo for reminding us all of the many benefits of fasting, I’m going to draw on these today to keep me going 😊

Thanks to for the luck sent guys I need it today!!

@phwree, maybe it’s just me but I think fasting days help with stress. I recently began suffering with panic attacks and find I’m much more measured and calm in fast days maybe because hunger trump’s worry, I don’t really know if there’s any science to support my experience but thought I’d add my 2 cents.
@ avandee and @bert1802 I know what you mean I think we can all empathise. I gained 12lbs over a short period so for me it’s not even about feeling good in my clothes but about having professional work attire that fits. Unfortunately I can’t afford to buy new clothes so it’s shrink or shrink πŸ˜€

Have a great day everyone, am up to date but writing on a rubbish phone with a cracked screen so I’m making myself dizzy writing πŸ˜†

    Day 12 – Brisbane, Aus – FD

FD today has been pretty cruisey – have had maybe a cup of milk in total spread out over various coffee’s/tea’s throughout the day and will have a cup of soup soon for dinner… that should be pretty much it for the day, I haven’t felt pushed at all, haven’t felt the need to have anything – has been a good day πŸ™‚

Hope everyone else’s day is going just as well.

    Day 12 -Staffordshire,UK-FD

    Day 12 NFD Gippsland, Australia.
I have been fasting every alternate day and the weight has not done a lot in either direction for over a week.
I spoke to my personal trainer about it and she asked how much exercise I have been doing outside my two gym sessions a week.
Honest answer – since Christmas not very much at all.
I have committed to doing some high intensity interval training on my stationary bike on my non-gym days for two weeks and we will see if that kicks the fat burning off again.
I am also really focussing on low carb foods, so I know it will all come together eventually. The poor old body is probably saying “What the efff???”

Aussie day 12 can’t believe another FD almost over got to dinner time and i don’t no where the day went never felt hungry it does get easier.Back to reading all the inspiring posts.
