  • Day 5– Colorado, USA– NFD

BiddieV– we’re in a similar boat, I’ve been carefully pulling back from sugar over past years also as I learn more about it.

Never been a chocolate fan, but I used to love fruity sweets: Skittles, StarBursts fruit chews, Jolly Ranchers! Wasn’t able to ditch all sugars cold-turkey over night, it was a weaning & stepping away process… So glad I made the effort. Without sugar, my energy levels are so much more stable, no huge upswings followed by sleepy crashes. Also, my reports with the dentist are much better!

Now, if I find out that cheese has to be banned…. Well, then we’ll have a problem. Mmmmmm. Cheese.

2.51b off just from my first fast just what I needed now to get into this wol,
    Day 5 nfd North Yorkshire

Day 4: Pacific NW USA, NFD, over TDEE tonight, so will have a 16:8 day tomorrow then start pocket fast after dinner.

Busy day at work. Usually I try to catch up reading a few pages of posts at lunch but today I forgot my phone at home on the charger so ran home instead of reading and that puts me several pages behind. That meant I also didn’t eat lunch which on a FD is no problem but once I got home after work and since it was a NFD I started eating and didn’t exactly stop.

So, now it’s late and I will merely say that I hope everyone else is reading and reducing!

    Day 5 – Tokyo Japan – NFD – 80.7 kg

After 3 days weight is up about scales claims fat is down to 19.7%. Mostly water gain. Fasting seems to dehydrate me, no matter how much I drink.

This is such a busy thread!

http://eatingacademy.com/nutrition/is-ketosis-dangerous, “we can’t store more than about 24 hours worth of glucose”

This may be where I got the info that it takes about a 24 hour fast to use up our body’s stored glucose to then kickstart burning fat reserves. Thanks Fuvvie.

    DAY 5 – Bucks UK – FD

Nfd yesterday went well – didn’t eat ’til 5.00pm and then had a lovely supper followed by a slice of Xmas cake – and when I weighed myself this morning had only put on 2 oz. from my fd weight the day before – so was delighted. Fasting to-day (and doing a short run – hope I don’t fall over as it’s so frosty here – a white out.) I have decided to put in the extra FD here and there if I can and it suits. If it doesn’t work out I know I will have reduced cals. for the day anyway, so a win win.
Fuvvie how do you access the spreadsheet everyone’s talking about? xx

Day 5. FD super sunny Melbourne Aus. No weigh in until Monday.

Great FD today. 503 cals total and all at dinner. Yummy chicken salad and a treat of a small scoop of Vanilla ice cream with loads of fresh berries. Feeling good even. After having blood tests today too thought I might struggle a bit after those but all ok. Plenty of water and 0cal tea and a black coffee.

Hope everyone has a great day 5.

    Day 4&5 NFD
    Day 6 FD
Long story about what happens when you do intense mountain running on 68hour water fasting.
palpitations and arrhythmia from I suspect an electrolyte imbalance were a little scary, suffice it to say for safety I had to eat and will be doing a water fast day again tomorrow.
Before anyone reminds me, I do know I shouldn’t have done the run, but the best part is, I did it because I felt so good in the morning of day 3 that I just followed my normal routine without thinking, completely forgot I was fasting!!!

    Day 5, London, NFD

MY FD yesterday did not go well. There I was, waxing lyrical about tea, but each time I went to make some, my “feeder” colleagues had left yet more post-Christmas sweets, cake and cookies in the kitchenette. Could not resist. Argh.

I will join the gang doing a fast from this eve to Sat morning.

UK day 5 FD- tempted to hold off and join the pocketeers tomorrow but I’m already a bit disorientated day wise this week so think I’ll stick with my original plan for tues/Thursday fast this week, be glad next week when I can do usual mon/wed and I’d like to think if all goes well I can do Friday as well . Love reading the posts but my goodness it’s quite a task when our numbers are so strong !

    Morning all
    Day 5 – Surrey, UK – NFD
Lovely sunny but cold day here. Makes coming back to work a bit more bearable. I have a plan for my first FD at work tomorrow – hope it works. Also plan to go swimming tonight after work. Aiming for 30 lengths.
BiddieV – completely with you re sugar. I used to be an addict but now – in part due to age and in part all the publicity – although I still enjoy the occasional splurge I really do feel the effects afterwards!
HappyMargo – lucky you living in Colorado. I have very good friends in Denver so have visited a few times – last summer most recently – and love it. What wonderful hiking etc. I bet you’re getting pretty cold now though!!
    Have a great day everyone.

Hi Fuvvie – Have found the link to the Spreadsheet – how amazing! Thank you so much for all your efforts. I can honestly say I have never been more optimistic about losing weight – this site is fantastic and I so appreciate all the snippets and advice offered. xx

    Day 5: Belfast U.K., FD

Didn’t have a good NFD yesterday. Had a fit of the munchies so the shortbread got a hit. 😢
    Today’s a new day…
    Have a good day everyone

    Day 4 USA Hawaii NFD

    Day5 – SW UK – FD

wow loads of people’s posts to catch up on, sorry I didn’t check in yesterday

@laddie10 thank you also for your succinct explanation 😀 back on page 8!

Running today – first time on a fast day – will have a banana half hour before I go and see how I do (just doing 5k)

Look forward to reading all the posts and seeing how everyone is doing. Once again, my NFD yesterday was rubbish 🙁 but I did have some not so good news from the vet about my horse (suspected gastric ulcers) and I know I comfort eat….still there is always another day!

    Day 5 FD, Nebraska US
Ate well yesterday. Didn’t BF until 1:00 then had a romaine salad with lots of veggie toppings and chicken. Made an avocado salad dressing using Greek yogurt that was good. For supper made a hot asian salad with chicken and cabbage mix.
Seems like this FD came around quick!

    Day 5 / NFD but doing 18:6 / Oman

Fasting until 1.30 was difficult today. Boiled egg, Tuna salad with a bit of quinoa.

@laddie10 thanks for the link…i found it really useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETkwZIi3R7w

    Day 5…… Florida……NFD

So, I made it through my b2b…. yeah me! And when I awoke, I jumped right out of bed. I love the extra energy a good FD provides me…..

Yesterday, I was a bit over on my calories just by 50 or so but sometimes you’ve got let things happen. Also, cookies, brownies, chocolate candies are over flowing in our lunch room at work. So, instead of eating one yesterday, I set one aside with my name on it…. well actually it said…. Michelle is eating this tomorrow 1/5/17!
So, I go back in a little later and there is another post it note on it that says….. No, you won’t…… I adapted and wrote yes, I will!
    Crazy coworkers!

So, I’m breaking my fast today with a double fudge brownie….. I know probably not the best way to break a fast but I’ve wanted this thing for two days now.

That’s the great thing about This WOL, I don’t have to give up the things I enjoy the most. I can have my cake and eat it too. I just may have to postpone and rearrange the time I have it. No cheat day, like many dieters look forward to….. because I’m not denying myself anything.

Pocket fasters…… I’m ready to begin tonight after dinner! Do we have a proper list yet. Yesterday was crazy and I didn’t get a chance to write everyone down?

    Have a great day!
    Cheers!

Day 5 – Bungendore NSW AUS – FD
2nd fast day ever and today was much easier. Headaches have subsided but getting to sleep still a struggle. managing to get 40mins walking a day. Only having one meal during fast days so that i can eat with the family of an evening. Finding it difficult to concentrate from about 3pm but got my second wind at 5pm. I tríed to get up and move around and get another glass of water to see if that would help, it did a bit. Feeling tired tonight might try and go to sleep a little earlier. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Fuvvie a few details for your spreadsheet. Current weight 109kgs – 1st goal is to lose 12kg hoping to lose up to 3kgs this month – do you think this is realistic? Ultímate goal is to reach 85kgs. Have not been this weight since i was 16. Thanks for keeping track.

    US SC Day 5 FD

CB0z.. I found that my first and second months fasting I lost the most lbs, probably 10 in the first month alone. It levels out after a couple of months to a steady 1 to 2 a week after that.. so you may well lose 3kgs this month. Good luck!

    Thanks DebbieQ

    Day 5 – USA – NFD

Jan 1 weight 152.6lb – Jan 5 weight 146.8 —- I set a first-week goal of losing 3.6 lbs knowing that I had a fair amount of holiday ‘water’. So with the 5.8 lb reduction, I have reached my weekly goal early- happy!

True confessions – I think about having a chocolate Long John donut as a reward at least 1 x per day. That worries me a bit…I like hearing about other people on this site that say that their sweet cravings have gone down.

More confessions – While making dinner last night for the boys I put music on and started dancing in the kitchen. It reminded me of how I used to feel years ago before weight gain and menopause and feeling depressed over watching my body fall apart. I guess it’s true what they say about mood and norepinephrines going up while fasting!!!???

I love hearing about how some of you don’t crave sweets as much anymore!!! Please keep the good news coming.

2nd post today (day 5 FD SW England)

I managed a run on my FD and hit a PB over 5k! (i’m still pretty slow…) but YAY feeling chuffed.

@fuvvie can I add details to your spreadsheet? I used this WOL super successfully for my wedding in 2013 but fell off the bandwagon and faffed around with other diets when I crept up from 61kg to where I am now. Been back on 5:2 since 2nd week of December.
    start weight 69kg
aiming for 61.5kg by June time, and if I can manage it, to drag it under 60kg by September.

@laddie10 I am the same as you, I still crave sweet things, donuts for me as well. my first FD this week the work canteen had in trays of freshly cooked donuts 🙁 but I resisted!

@cboz hope you are feeling less tired / able to sleep tonight. I tend towards being ‘hyper’ on a FD which definitely affects my sleeping. lots of water to help keep the headache away.

@bert1802 wow a B2B. I have never managed one and dont know if I could. impressed!

@happymargo I have dropped my sugar in my tea and coffee but failing at giving it up anywhere else….motivated more hearing how it has helped you. Also agree about cheese! could NEVER give up cheese.

    Day 5 – Denmark – NFD

I have lost a little again. Very happy.
My fast day yesterday went good, but I must say, I am very hungry when I go to sleep.
The breakfast this morning tasted wonderfully.

Day 5 // New Hampshire, USA // FD

Today is my second fast day. I decided I will hold off on drinking my coffee until noon. I’ve been trying to wean myself off my morning cup, anyway. I’m not sure what my plan is Re: food for the day, but I find it makes the most sense to eat all of my calories at once at dinner time. That way I can still eat with my family.

Feeling a little down today. About to drink some Kava stress relief tea – hope it gives me a lift.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on my posts or answered questions over the last five days!

Day 5 USA (Utah visiting) — NFD

My first FD in weeks went fine yesterday. I always incorporate an apple around 2 p.m. (for regularity) then have my under 400 calorie supper late afternoon. Yesterday it was leftover fish amandine and green beans. I splurged with a couple tbls. of tartar sauce that I love.

FD’s are the worst for making me cold. I put on extra layers and hot tea warmed my hands as needed. Also, I did get to the gym for a brief time on the weights. Weighed in still right on my maintenance weight of #160.

HappyMargo & emilymeg (and others) yes, cheese. That was one wonderful thing about SouthBeach Diet that allowed string cheese as snacks. I still do that. Daughter bought a delicious brie at Costco for my visit, and I bet I have eaten 3/4 of that this trip with Triscuits.

Fuvvie – your skills are truly amazing. Thank you ever so much for sharing them with us!

    Day 5 — WI, USA — Week 1 / FD 2

Yesterday was a NFD and I ate a pretty large dinner (my eyes were hungrier than my stomach was, by the end of the day)… It was just not a good feeling. I actually felt pretty sick.

Something I want to work on is eating slower and giving myself time to realize if I’m full or not. Yesterday I think I just ate and ate and ate, feeling like I was still hungry, until it was too late and the satiety hit me all at once.

So, needless to say, I’m pretty happy that today is a FD. 🙂

Day 5, US, NFD. 132 lbs. I hope to lose 1/2 lb per week the rest of the month. It seems like my metabolism has sped up a bit after doing 5:2 (not even close to perfectly, however) the past 5 months. I agree about the sugar cravings. The longer I go without sugar sweets, the easier it is to leave them alone. But the holidays definitely derailed that. Now I have to start all over weaning myself off.

@kelliann keep going, hope your tea made you feel better. Can you fit in a walk to boost endorphins?

@songbirdme yes, yes, yes to the cold on a FD! all the layers being worn.

    Day 5, Kent, FD
I am doing 2 days back to back which I know from my reading that its not really recommended – but it only way to fit it in this week and I wanted to start as I mean to go on!
Actually I am finding it ok. Miso soup again at 2pm and nothing else. Planning lentil meatballs for supper followed by low cal pancakes, fruit and yogurt. The tough bit for me is the evening especially when I sit in front of the tv. Had to go to bed at 9.30pm last night!

Its good following this feed and feeling part of something. I also like the fact that by tomorrow I can within reason eat normally rather than getting obsessed by calories.

    Day 5,Canada,NFD

Lany I have had that experience when following a VLC diet, it is most unpleasant and a bit scary. I use K+ supplements when I get that shaky feeling, works like a charm.

@emilymeg – that’s a great idea! I will try and squeeze in a walk at lunch time.

    Day 5, Canada, NFD
Had my first FD yesterday and, while it was hard, it wasn’t impossible! The scale is down 2.5 lbs this morning! I know it’s mostly water but am feeling so positive this morning, it’s both the success and also just that my brain is clear and my body feels good. Will break my fast at noon today. I’m having trouble with the acronyms (I’ve ordered Dr. Mosley’s book, it should arrive tomorrow) but I had an overnight fast (heading in to FD) of 17 hours going in, and 18 hours going out. I tried to get most of my 500 cals from veg, but had some protein, too. An egg, a very little bit of roast beef on a salad, a very little bit of turkey in my evening soup. Loads of water and tea.
    Hooray!

    Day 5 |FD| Toronto
Working at home on a -8C, windchill-17C. day. I will be refreshing my 5:2 knowledge and program by dusting off the “the FastLife” for a reread over the next few days and plating some of the better YouTube selections (recommendations appreciated).

    Day 5 Canada FD

Hi there. Wishing everyone a good day.

Day 5, NFD, Az USA. Going for high protein meals as we are going to meet family for pizza tonight so I know I’ll splurge. I got my husband on board to do 5:2 and the texts I got from him yesterday included “I can not believe there’s 78 calories in one hard boiled egg!!” And “I think my body is officially eating itself”. Another win, I have 2 teenage boys and they have agreed to give up soda for at least a month. Trying to teach them about healthy options, and I’m not paying thousands of $$ for braces for them to tarnish their teeth!!

    Second post of day
PS: Meant to say “playing” Youtube selections; plating was a Freudian slip I think!

    sheam2567/Day 5/ FD/
A snowy day here in Midwest USA. Since it is a fast day there will be fewer fridge trips….and not very many dishes in the sink: perhaps a coffee cup, plate and fork. I am trying to find the funny details in each day as a mindfulness exercise.
Thank you all for being the accountability people in my life.

Day 5 SW WA USA FD

Headed into 2nd day of fasting plus will join pocketeers for tomorrow. It’s developing into a b2b2b. This is to undo the treats of Jan 1,2,3. Feeling good this morning with coffee and cashew milk so far. Yesterday I only felt a few hunger pangs about 3 pm. Day 2 usually works well.

    May everyone do well today!

Georgia/USA/Day 5/FD: Looking forward to this month and the progress that lies i store. I’m promising to treat myself better this year by taking the necessary steps to optimal health: mind, body, and soul. Going to be more patient with myself, taking it day by day.

Hi,,how about this? instead of comfort eating- we are each others COMFORT! all over the world, in all kinds of weather,24/7…very cool to do this with you.
Fuvvie…I have not found the spreadsheet, yet.

Day 4 and 5 Surrey UK FD and NFD Just checking in.

    Day 5: Gloucestershire, UK….NFD…as always.

    Day 5 Cornwall UK NFD

Decided to have some berries and yoghurt for breakfast then off for a 15k bike ride, great to back in the saddle again!

I did have a sandwich for lunch and cottage pie this evening with loads of veg.

Cheese I couldn’t give that up either love a variety with a thin slices of apple, yummy!

Great links thanks, maybe I should do some water fasts again but I do find it hard when its cold weather and I get so cold on a fast day!!

It is hard to keep up with reading the posts!!

Good luck everyone! Stay strong, onward and down!!

I have a question about the actual duration (in hours) of the 2 days fasting.

Is the goal *at least 24 hours* per fasting day? Or is it more like 36 hours because most people would eat dinner (Day 0), sleep, fast the whole day (Day 1), then sleep again, and only end up eating breakfast the follow day (Day 2)??

It’s just a bit tricky for me (I’m very new to this), because I work on the night shift 3 nights per week, so my waking and sleeping scheduled is all over the place.

    Thanks for any advice!!!

    Day 5 | NFD | Bucks UK

    2nd post–

zoomuwo– the way Dr. Mosley has written 5:2 the Fasts typically last 36 hours long.

For example: finish dinner on Sunday night. Go to sleep. On Monday only consume 500 calories (or less*) Go to sleep again. Wake up & break Fast on Tuesday morning with NFD light breakfast.

(* I say “or less” on the calories, because the only reason Dr.M chose any calories on FDs is because he feared low compliance if he said zero food. It is perfectly fine, after easing into this WOL and getting good practice at Intermittent Fasting to simply do zero-calorie, liquid-only FD. But do not feel you have to ever to that. The 5:2 system still works as written!)

Also, know in other writings that 24 hour Fasts are perfectly acceptable for Intermittent Fasting as well. Some people Fast from dinner-to-dinner, giving your body a rest/ repair/ reset window of 24 hours.

The nice thing about this method is it allows one to sit down each night & have dinner with family. It may feel less-intrusive to others. I use this 24 hour, dinners-only fasting method when visiting family, then they don’t get all weird about my eating/ not-eating patterns, because they don’t even notice!! 😀

    Day 5 – Staffordshire UK-nfd

Yesterday was a disaster way over tdee. Today has been better so far – watch this space.

    Day 5, Québec, FD

Hi Fuvvie, I was part of this group last Spring with Coda and it helped me a lot. I would like to come back with you all please.
I will be fasting on Monday and Thursday ( and sometimes Saturday ).
Thank you and may you all have a nice day x
