  • Day 18 /Tweed Coast Australia / NFD

Whew! What a day yesterday, as I explained and what a difference today! Yesterday was like ‘hell’ and today is truly heavenly! I so appreciate the support of this forum and especially the hugs and understanding from you Lou Belles, Happy Margo, back2thefuture and Northern Dawn! Such support is what helps cheer me up and on!

So, yes! It turned out to be so worth continuing fasting! I did vary my plan a little by allowing myself a full 500 calories instead of my usual 350(1/4 TDEE) and despite that bit extra the scales showed I weighed 1.3 kg less compared to yesterday morning so I’m back at the lower end of my goal weight envelope, Yay! As I indicated above, I also feel so much better! After a good night’s sleep all the low cortisol symptoms have eased. I even wonder if perhaps I went through a detox since I recently started back taking diatomaceous earth daily, so that could have been a factor for the extra rough FD. I have experienced the same symptoms during previous fasts, so this isn’t new and I do my best to line up all my ‘ducks’ so that I’m less stressed during a FD, but I’m not always successful.

    Hi all
Well this last 5 days I’ve lapsed not got my head in the game, husbands come home from work for Xmas hols an we’ve just spent last 5 days eating out drinks etc an I’m now regretting all the hard work that I’m ruining, just been reading yr posts to help keep me on track. I’m going to do a FD today as tmrw we go up to Scotland for a 5 day log cabin break, OH HELP, but hopefully reading this this morn will set me up for a positive Sunday,
    Happy fasting everyone x

    Day 18 UK NFD

Day 18 Surrey UK FD Hopefully….no, not hopefully, definitely! Well this coming week is jut going to be hit and miss in terms of posting. I will do my best but there are bound to be days where it just won’t happen. I think that might be the case for many of us. I hope it doesn’t make your job of class monitor too difficult, B2tF!
    Have a great day everyone.

    Day 18: Gloucestershire, UK. Non-fast-day.

UK day 18 NFD Just found out my youngest son will be working over Christmas so he’s going to come home tomorrow for a few days which may put my planned fast on hold , but maybe not – we’ll see .

B2TF- I think you said you’d host this thread til the 21st ? Has anyone volunteered for the January job yet ?

    Day 18, Australia NFD

Lael so glad you got through the fast and got a great result on the scales, it makes all the difference when we see a result.
SongBirdMe and AnneMarilyn sadly not as exotic add it sounds! It is a huge car ferry I suppose, which takes overnight to cross the Bass Strait (the body of water between Tasmania and Victoria). So the kids and I had a cabin and it wasn’t a very smooth sailing and my 11yo didn’t like that so we didn’t get as much sleep as I would have liked. Today drove from Melbourne to Sydney and are staying with my brother and all the cousins are happily chatting away with each other instead of sleeping. Didn’t eat the best today. I was very tired after the boat trip and am doing all the driving up to Brisbane by myself, as OH is still working this week. Anyway I ate food I didn’t really want to help me stay alert, I really needed a good nap instead. So feeling yuck tonight but thinking about how a while ago it wouldn’t have been out I’d the ordinary, so things have changed. Not sure when I can fast, I’m taking my kids and my nephew and nieces into Sydney tomorrow to see the sights, but will definitely cut back from today. Will miss my pocketeers, but will be thinking of you all.

    Lael’s extra post…

Lou Belles, sounds like you fared better than I did crossing on that same ferry! I was seasick pretty much the whole way (going in both directions) and we didn’t have a cabin! Remembering those two Bass Strait crossings make yesterday’s fast seem like a piece of cake!! Safe travels to Brisbane!

Day 18 USA (Illinois – frozen conditions)

NFD today. Must do a little shoveling the driveway plower didn’t do, so will expend some calories today for sure. I also feed my birds.

Northern Dawn – we see wild turkeys in flocks here in cornfields or even on the highway, but is it turkeys or other birds you see in your trees? We lost a huge oak tree right by the house a year ago, and that has caused quite a creative puzzle to mount my feeders in winter. I use shepherd’s crooks and one hooked arm that attaches to the top of the deck. I decided yesterday to put a couple suet feeders on a further away tree when I saw a nuthatch climbing it. I know he is happy to have suet there.

Must get going – playing piano at church this morning. All Christmas music – I love it!

    Onward and downward!

    Day 18….. Florida….. NFD

    Morning!

Sorry, that I didn’t post yesterday. I changed my tv and internet package. I swear these company make you pay a high dollar amount for absolutely nothing. I mean just between me and the husband, we only watch 5 or 6 channels but must pay for over 200 hundred because they are packaged together…. example, I have to pay for the kids choice package to watch The discovery channel and National Geo, so therefore I also get Disney, nick and 14 other cartoon channels…. crazy I’m telling you!

    Anyways…. next subject….
I had three Christmas parties in one week. I had virtually no FD this week and to my surprise my weight stayed the same….. I really tried to keep things in check! So far so good…… No Christmas parties this week, today the husband and I are finishing the Christmas shopping. So, I’m planning on 3 solid FD’s.

Well, I’m off to go get ready to deal with the craziness

    Cheers!

I wonder if my Aussie friends know about that little chic? She is quite the show stealer!

    Day 18 WA USA NFD

Yesterday went to about 600 calories; not bad with my former MIL’s yummy potato soup & lefsa.

Looking forward to church with my son, in from Florida followed by family time in the afternoon. Will work toward mindful enjoyment of the food.

Wish I could visit some other church services to enjoy your music as well. Love Christmas music. “I heard the bells on Christmas Day” came on in such a wonderful version yesterday before I began my road trip.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Day 18 : Cheshire, UK : NFD

Fighting the temptations today. Sometimes winning πŸ™‚

    Georgia/ USA/ DAY 18/NFD

    Day 18– Colorado, USA– NFD

This day started at – 8* F (-17.7 C) with snow on the ground. DH got to try out the new snow-thrower while I used the shovel for sidewalks, front door stoop & steps. (Secret: I actually like to shovel snow. I’m outside in fresh air, working up a sweat = makes me happy!) Brrr, cold though!!

Now it’s up to 21 * F (- 6.1 C.) Still crazy cold, but now ind & the sun is brightly shining.

DH & I are heading to the gym for some cardio (seated on a recumbent bike) and weight lifting.
We have a family trip to someplace hot & beachy in just 14 weeks… 5:2 Fasting is taking care of the extra pounds. Now it’s up to me & my discipline to work on muscle tone!!

Oops! Should say “no wind” & the sun is brightly shining.

Glad it’s a NFD, making shepherd pie for dinner. Perfect comfort food to warm up with!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    Day 18 – Cumbria UK – FD

Great evening out last night with good company – I ate and drank mindfully!

@happymargo – Had a wonderful day at my Yoga workshop today in the company of some great women (8 of us with our teacher) – It was held in a yurt in an ideal setting to feel β€˜away from it all’, next to a stream, in the woodland. The log burner was blazing all day keeping us nice and snug inside the yurt. We had a 3hr Yin class followed by an hour break for a light lunch and a walk in the forest. We then had a 2hour Restorative session – leaving us feeling relaxed and completely chilled out. Time away from all the frenzy that seems to pervade at Christmas time was absolutely healing.

We had a light macrobiotic lunch provided – so ended up well within my 500cal for the day. As I don’t feel hungry at the moment I decided today might as well be a FD – going to soak in a lovely scented bath soon and get into my PJs and will continue chilling out for the rest of the evening with some herbal tea.

    Namaste

    Day 18, Gozo Malta, NFD

Today was the christening of my youngest grandson and I was one of the godparents. I named him Taddeo like my husband Teddie. After a lavish seven corse lunch with plenty of red wine which was from 3.30 to 6.15 I’m feeling slightly sick as I’m not used to eating so much nowadays. So will welcome eating much less tomorrow. This evening I only drunk water.

I hope you all have a great evening/night.

AT– the setting sounded perfect for your yoga retreat! From stream to forest to a wood-burning fire inside a snug yurt.

Perfect time of year to take a full day to de-stress. A gift to yourself! So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

    Day 18 UK NFD
Quick checkin. a good day up to tdee and a 10 mile bike ride, great day.

    Onwards and Down!

Day 19. Sunshine Coast Qld Aus: FD? really quite cool and damp here today. Sorry I haven’t been checking in B2tf. Just not 5:2ing right now. Life is crazy here. Big family get together yesterday resulting in 6 hours of driving. Street party the night before. I love my family and love it when we all come together but it brings a certain amount of stress and in spite of all the wonderful support on this site, I’ve been food popping and drinking practically non stop past week plus. Weight up around 108.4kgs. Got to get a grip. I’m very impressed with how many people are managing well at this time of year. I’m going to have to tell my sub conscious that I am happy to eat less and take it from there. Good luck everyone. I have days of posts to catch up on.

    Day 18 Italy – NFD

US SC Day 18 2016 NFD. Busy day today. Lots of chores done. Hoping to get 3 FD’s in next week before the big day.

    Day 18 | NFD | Bucks UK

Would like to do 3 FDs this coming week

    Have a good week everyone πŸ‘Š ❀

Hi all UK day 18 (11.8) nfd
Busy day Kon Marie ing my bed sheets and towels. Can’t remember who told us about Marie Kondo and although it had taken a while for me to implement or start I never thought I could get excited when I now look into some of my drawers! Thank you. Now to give other areas the same treatment.
Number 3 son comes home tomorrow so going to pick him up at airport. I never shared again – I think I was too cautious in case it all went pear shaped again. But he and his girlfriend had some heart to hearts when she returned back and so far so good. They seem to be happier than ever. He has been accepted on a PGCE course at a university. Not sure it was all the uncertainty of his career that made him question everything in his life but for the moment things are good for them.

    Day 18 Portugal NFD
Well over my tdee today. My daughter’s 18th birthday and the cake she made..my goodness, three layered chocolate cookie, Oreo, brownie cake (she wants to study culinary arts at university next year).

You’re right @happymargo we can’t miss out on these special moments in life. Celebrations continue tomorrow as my parents arrive and we will have a birthday meal out. But I do plan to get a couple of FDs in this week.

I weighed myself yesterday. Pleased to report no gain, I am managing to maintain..64.3kg.

Day 19. 16:8 FD country West Australia
Yesterday’s 16:8 went surprisingly well. Had our Carol service last night – sang my heart out and it is finally starting to feel a little like Christmas. Not sure about other countries but here in WA the radio stations seem determined NOT to play carols or talk about anything vaguely christian or to do with Christmas – quite weird and a lot of people are commenting on this.

After the service there was a delicious supper and as I hadn’t had dinner I was really tempted but resorted to taking 2 plates of food around to serve others. Kept my hands full and I was unable to overly indulge, only had 1 small sandwich, 2 cherries and a piece of cheese bread. I did have a piece of toast and pb when I got home! Trying to get rid of the last 500gms before the 25th.
Have a dinner tonight with friends and after today not sure if I can realistically think about a FD due to social occasions.

I will try to keep posting daily despite the hectic days ahead. This forum REALLY keeps me motivated and so many of you have done amazing things.
I am so committed to posting that my DH thinks I must have an online lover !!! – lol … he says to me ‘ you’re always on your computer first thing in the morning’.
Reading daily keeps me on track.
Countdown is on to Christmas day – have a good day.

    2nd post
Lilymartin, I love it that we have several stations that play lots of carols; quite an assortment. Then also the Hallmark channel has Christmas movies with a lot of true Christmas carols. There has been a backlash here when there was an anti Christmas sentiment. This year it seems Christmas is winning!

    Day 18 Minnesota, USA NFD
Again, not a bad NFD considering being stuck in the house all day due to dangerous wind chill temps. I will do a FD tomorrow and I’m hoping to do 4:3 this week, M, W, F, in prep for Christmas weekend with family. No chance of doing any fasting with family all around. They are use to me not eating breakfast, and they know I am doing 5:2, but they think I don’t need to fast on Holiday days with them, and that’s true, and ok. I can fast on other days.
SongbirdMe, yes for sure it is real wild turkeys at my home. We know the difference. Last year we had up to 31 as a flock that came through every couple days. Now we have a consistent 7 Tom turkeys. The last we saw of the females and youngsters (summer hatches) was in early October. The Toms have adopted us and our wooded acreage. They like the open area of our big backyard and then the woods all around it.. Perfect for turkeys. One limped for awhile after leaving its roost this morning. It sat in the snow for about a half hour then its foot seemed better. They only ate twice today. They roosted an hour and half earlier than usual tonight. I guess sitting up there in the tree with head under wing must conserve more energy than it’s worth to peck at food. We find that and everything they do very interesting. We’ve provided a separate area for the cardinals and other small birds. they are easily intimidated by the turkeys.

    Second post:
I just want to encourage everyone struggling through this month to stay strong, do what you can to stay on target, but be forgiving of yourself. Whatever your perceived failures, do not give up!!!!

I have always thought, these last 8 months, that the beauty of 5:2 is that you can still live life as you should on all of those special days that mark all of our lives. And let’s face it, those kinds of special days are not the majority, so there is no excuse to live like every day is a holiday!

But, this IS a holiday time and I personally will consider coming through it same weight or even a couple pounds over, or even several, not a terrible thing!!! As long as I know that I can fast two days a week for the next month or two and lose the weight I’ve gained I will be okay. I will feel in control. And I will enjoy this Christmas time with my family and friends. It is not beyond my control, nor yours. So. I will limit damage this month, and then in January and February, I will be relentless in my pursuit of my weight loss goal. There, now, I feel better!

Day 17| Pune India | NFD
Day 18| Pune India | NFD
Day 19| Pune India | FD

Sorry I missed logging in over the weekend. We had a 25 year reunion of my grad school.
So Saturday was a feast, but Sunday was around TDEE.
Today starting the B2B fast – hoping to do a 3 day one.

Next week again we go for a cousins meet on my husband’s side. So want to be good this week to keep the downward streak going.

Great to see all the good folks on the forum doing well!

    Day 19 – Melbourne – FD

Managing a b2b…so far. Has been a bit of a struggle today, but it is now 5.30pm and would be a shame to waste it at this stage – your support helps so much – this forum Rocks!

I feel envious of the Marie Kondo-ites here as my home has become steadily more chaotic over the last 6 months … hmmm maybe I should join a tidiness forum..

I have just had to google the marie Kondo your talking about, wow that maybe a plan for 2017 need some organisation in my life,
Yesterday ended up a nfd but with not eating anything till tea I have lost one of the pounds I put on within the week.
Heading up to Scotland today for quality family time and going to attempt another FD.
Love hearing about the snow your all having in America, makes me feel Christmassy as well as watching all the Christmas movies.
    Happy FD all

    Day 19 | Derbyshire UK | FD

Just managed to catch up on all your posts. It’s a struggle to get through one day’s worth, let alone three days! πŸ˜€
It is so inspiring to read of your achievements and I’ve enjoyed catching all your news. Wishing all of you travellers a safe journey and for those of you trapped at home by the snow, keep warm and enjoy those hygge moments watching films by the fire. If you’re finding 5:2 a bit of a struggle at the moment then try to remember that this WOL won’t go away, it will still be there when you’re ready to get back in the rhythm of things. Christmas is a time for rejoicing and enjoying precious time spent with your family and friends. We’ll all be back to normal in no time. Don’t feel guilty or worry about perceived ‘failures’ … Enjoy the holidays and then jump back on the wagon when it comes past next week.

I collected my youngest son from uni yesterday and now it feels really Christmassy! I remember how I felt when I came home to mum and dad’s at this time of year and I want to make everything perfect for him too.

Like most of you I’ve got a really busy day ahead of me getting ready for the rest of the family to arrive. Still need to get some outstanding presents. Yuck!! I’m also cooking which seems to help me get through my FD! I love all the prep and then the cooking smells but it doesn’t seem to make me hungry. How bizarre!

    Happy Monday everyone xxx

Day 18: Pacific NW USA, NFD

OH and I had a very peaceful morning looking out over a driftwood covered beach that was dusted with snow in the early hours. That was the calm before the beginning of the first of our family get-togethers. Now it’s after midnight and I’m the last one still up but I needed to see how all my IF friends are doing before I can go to bed.

Norrie – thanks for telling me so I won’t worry when I see some blank spaces on your row, take care and check in with us when you can!

Brighton – I’m on board till the 31st. Ciren had at one time thought about taking over January. What do you think Ciren, do you need a rest after the holiday mail rush or are you ready to jump in to lead a new thread?

AT – your yoga retreat sounds like you found nirvana!

Fuvvie – 5:2 can still be a lifeline for you, read Northern’s last post again titled “second post” and remember 5:2 can resume any time you decide and we know you have it in you to get back on your downward trend.

Coda – my daughter and I used to say her new boyfriend’s (now husband’s) name backwards to superstitiously not “jinx” her new relationship. It seemed to help, they’ve been married 14 years (Ha!) So I will just say I am “dalg” to hear the news about your son and for you too!

Northern – thanks for your “second post” pep talk. I needed to hear what you had to say as I am into my longest span of NFD’s since I started 5:2 and you reminded me I need to “chill” and enjoy this family time with mindfulness not guilt.

Diggly – I think you are back from your aunt’s funeral and now you have your son at home and your words were very encouraging too!

Day 19, FD, New Zealand. Ate 600 cals, but still calling it a FD. will do final FD tomorrow, finishing off my pre-christmas 5:2 with the b2b2b. My goal was to make 63kg, and I reckon that I’ll be 63.8 or thereabouts – which is good enough for me at this time of year! And I totally agree with NorthernDaw’s posts. Special days only come about infrequently so why not enjoy them.

Day 19 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD

I also second Northern Dawn’s holiday post! Adopting your attitude Northern Dawn will see me happy through the holidays as well as approaching them realistically and with the spirit of giving that the holidays are all about.

My plan has been to fast two days a week throughout the holiday period. Tomorrow’s FD will be an experiment in whether I’ll be able to pull it off! I only question this because of my recent health challenges. …At least I’m at home and won’t need to work, though I’ll be busy packing for our travels to Melbourne, so it isn’t a complete rest day! We fly out the following morning. I’ll do my best to continue to post daily, though if I’m not able to do so, I’ll make up by writing a combined days’ post.

Day 19 Surrey UK FD…another try! Checking in.

    Day 19 Italy – FD
Going to try and get a fast in today before going home for Christmas. Not into it 100% but will give it a try

UK day 19 FD- well that’s the plan just now I’ll see how the day goes but following Northern Dawns approach, I am very happy with my weight right now and if I start 2017 at this weight or even a couple of pounds up I’ll be happy

Hello all you wonderful people UK day 19 fd

Thank you Northerndawn for that post I think I am in a better place this year both mentally and physically and it is all down to this group who have found each other. Feeling emotional thinking of you all!
Thank you B2TF for keeping track of us all and being mother hen gathering in her chicks.
    Evol to you all!
So thank you to each and every one of you who have stuck with us and who have contributed their ups and downs so we all learn how to adapt this WOL.

Regarding Marie Kondo for anyone thinking about it – give it a go. I hated putting things away in drawers because I could never find anything which meant things always looked messy. Clothes would be all over the place. But with this method, wow, it makes so much sense. I have even started folding socks lol! I hated parting with things but again found when handling items if they didn’t ‘spark joy’ I was able to let them go. I had a jumper that I loved the colour but it was scratchy and I only wore it as a last resort. I have let it go! Folded sheets were a big problem area but with the help of you tube discovered a folding way I can do on my own and now with KonMari I can see them all neatly folded. It has been an area of my life that I have always struggled with. No matter how much I cleaned within a few days I was back to square one. My next big thing is books and papers. If it hadn’t been for this group?? Have a good day, stay warm and safe travels. x

    Day 19, Australia NFD

Am trying to do 16:8 as can’t really fast at the moment. Had a great day out and about in Sydney with my three kids and my brother’s three kids. Was a busy but great day.
Lael I have been terribly sick on the boat before too. I took travel sick pills and they seemed to work as I could feel all the swaying of the boat but no nausea at all. It really isn’t pleasant when you are sick.

    London | Day 19 | NFD

Apologies for not posting for ages. Both work and home have been hectic. Also not had a chance to keep up with the thread.

It’s been NFD’s mostly since day 14. I skipped breakfast on Day 15 and 16.
My main struggle has been keeping away from sugary stuff! It’s near impossible πŸ™

I’ve been exercising – TRX and hot yoga. Going for hot yoga again tonight and TRX on Wed night.

Planning a 36h liquid-only fast starting tonight – ending on Wed AM. Anyone fancy joining, if you haven’t started one already? πŸ™‚

@coda – just read your post about tidying up – something I need to be getting on with! I’ve done a lot in the last few months, but loads more to do. Will check out Marie Kondo, thanks for the tips πŸ™‚

    Day 19…… Florida……… FD

Last week was one strange and crazy ride….. hoping for a slow down this week, so I can get 3 solid FD’s in……
Christmas shopping yesterday with the husband was a bust, now the kids are getting older it’s getting harder and harder to shop for. DH is going to take another stab at it after mass this morning. Only got a week left, got to have something under the tree for them besides the socks I bought them yesterday….. lol

    I’m sorry, I can’t remember who said what….. but

    I’m doing 3 FD’s this week, so I’m in…..

They’ve been playing Christmas music around here since Oct. and I’m hearing more Merry Christmas(es), then I have in years….. Not once did anyone say Happy Holidays when I was out yesterday! I guess it the change in attitudes lately!

With 5:2….. it is true…. you can have your cake and eat it too! Don’t put yourself in a little box by saying no I can’t…. Enjoy the moment, the memories in the making… And then when the snow flakes settle…. Enjoy a solid FD. I honestly believe this was why and how 5:2 was designed, for each of us to enjoy the moment without destroying everything we worked for…..

Safe travels to all….. Safe travels for all families, mom and dads, sons and daughters, aunts and uncles, cousins…. friends who are now family, that are making their way to see YOU!

For those who have lost someone…… Although their physical form is no longer with us, their love still continues to rain down on us everyday, they still pick us up when we are down, they are the angels we carry on our shoulders…..
if you want to see them….. the signs are all around you….. just stop and look around!

If I missed anyone…. my apologies, I promise I did read your post!

    Cheers!

    Second post.

    @bert1802 – Shall I start a pocket list then? πŸ™‚
    Anyone else joining?

    The list so far:
    Pissupoosa

    Day 19 – Cumbria UK – FD

Slept like a log last night – woke up feeling refreshed.

Have not felt hungry as yet so decided that I would continue fasting today so doing a B2B FD (Sunday and Monday)

This afternoon I’m meeting friends for coffee then I have a pilates class and later this evening my usual yoga class – a busy afternoon/evening that will keep me focused and motivated hopefully – weigh day for the week is tomorrow……………I have tried to be mindful with eating/drinking at the various xmas parties and savouring my favourite things without going overboard…..the scales will let me know tomorrow.

Lots of people on this forum are travelling or having a very busy time with family over the festive season – safe travels to all and mindful eating/drinking but enjoy family/friends.

    Day 19 Cornwall UK NFD

Didn’t manage a fast today but will fast tomorrow. I’m out this evening with friends and it involves food and wine, but I’ll have a big salad before I go and and just have a few nibbles later.

Thanks for all the good advice on damage limitation this month, I will be happy to maintain. But I know that 2nd Jan I will be home and able to click back onto 5.2 whether I’ve put on or not.

Wishing everyone safe journeys and happy family gatherings. I’m so looking forward to going to our daughters on Friday another daughter will be there, we’ll have 2, 3 year olds so they will really enjoy christmas this year!

I know for many this isn’t an easy time of year and thoughts and prayers are with you. x

    Georgia/USA/Day 19/FD:

Here’s to starting the week off on the right foot!

    Day 19 USA (Illinois)

FD – well, I hope, today. I have been able to do maintenance keeping to TDEE or even under that, staying right at 160. My question is do I need to do FD’s? But I did have more sugar yesterday than I have had in months since I went to a church party in the afternoon. And I’m not exercising quite as much, but I am shoveling snow! πŸ™‚

Northern Dawn – loved your report about your turkeys! You are such a kind soul to keep them away from your smaller birds. We live right on the edge of a very small town with a cow pasture right behind our house. I don’t think turkeys like cows, so I don’t see them close by. But we do get quite a nice variety of songbirds, and they seem to know I love to feed them.

Yes, be honest with yourselves in this holiday season. We can all eat smartly and even have some indulgences with family and friends! This forum has been so wonderful for camaraderie with others who have learned our WOL. Yeah for us!

    Onward and downward!

    Day 18 – Canada – NFD
    Day 19 – Canada – FD

It has been very hard trying to keep up with fast days and posts. We are going away tomorrow and won’t be back until December 29. I will do my best to try to keep my TDEEs under control but fast days could be a problem.

To all the terrific 5:2ers, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, happy holidays and safe travels. I look forward to following along with you in the January challenge.
